Send us a textToday marks a milestone five years since we began this podcast journey together, amounting to 45 episodes, 1.7 million downloads, and nearly $47,000 raised for multiple charities. What's even more remarkable? We did the first three years of shows before ever meeting in person. That's the magic of Pearl Jam—creating connections that transcend physical distance.Music serves as a comfort blanket for many of us, particularly during challenging times. For Anthony, who left home at 16 and slept in his car, Pearl Jam represented a search for belonging when people continuously entered and exited his life. For Trey, hearing "Ten" as a 19-year-old college student prompted him to drop out and move to Seattle, completely altering his life trajectory and eventually leading to a winery named after one of his favorite songs. We share our most profound Pearl Jam memories—from Trey's experience at the legendary Drop in the Park show to Anthony's emotional journey photographing the band in Charlottesville after numerous rejections. That night, while photographing "Release" through tears, Anthony achieved a goal he'd thought impossible. These aren't just concert memories; they're life-defining moments. The podcast conversation explores how the band's activism fostered similar qualities in fans. Their emphasis on empathy and giving back inspired both hosts to become more involved with charitable causes. Perhaps most meaningful are the friendships formed through this community—people who became chosen family rather than just fellow fans.As we look toward the future, we remain grateful for how one band's authentic art transformed our lives in unexpected ways. And in true cosmic alignment, our fifth anniversary falls on the same day as the anniversaries of "Ten" (34 years) and "No Code" (31 years). Join us in celebrating not just music, but the enduring power of connection it creates.www.TheTouringFanLive.commedia@TheTouringFanLive.Comwww.facebook.com/TheTouringFanLiveInstagram-@TheTouringFanLiveCopyright The Touring Fan Live 2026
Most of this audience will know Dave Krusen as one of the founding members of my favorite band Pearl Jam. You can hear his kit on every song of their first record "Ten". Of course we're gonna chat a little it about that... but I wanna get to know what molded dave into the drummer he is today; so he's coming in with 5 albums that made him the musician he is today. I've really been looking forward to this one and couldn't ask for a more special season opener! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
A three night stand is a bit of a rarity in the Pearl Jam world, but any time that it's happened, the shows immediately become a part of the band's folklore. Mansfield's trilogy is always the premiere go to, but the three shows at Jones Beach in 2000 are legendary in their own right. The Daughter/It's OK moment from night two may still dominate the conversation 25 years later, but it's the night three show where the band went to all depths of their catalog to put together an extremely memorable finale on Long Island. The big theme of this show is centered around the high usage of an album that's considered to be a favorite of the die hard fan - No Code. There were seven tracks from the record played, and none of them were what you may consider to be as the commonly played songs from that record at the time (Hail, Hail, Lukin and to an extent, Habit). It's songs like Red Mosquito, Off He Goes, letting Stone sing on an inspired version of Mankind and a late encore performance of Smile, which was not considered to be a common song during this era like it is today. The band took it upon themselves to give this crowd something they'd never forget, and it wasn't just for the fact that these songs appeared, they all blew the doors down. From Immortality as a closer, to a unique usage of Save It For Later as the Better Man tag, the kitchen sink was thrown because the kitchen sink was lit ablaze. We'll dig into heavy discussion on all of the best performances from this show mentioned above, as well as Do The Evolution, Rearviewmirror, Black and the rare Binaural tracks for the era! This episode covers night two from Pearl Jam's three night stay at Jones Beach Amphitheater in 2000. This show will forever be known for a moment that's considered to be one of the most emotionally impactful in their history. The first North American leg of the Binaural tour was coming off the heels of one of the worst tragedies in music history when nine fans were killed during their set at the Roskilde Festival. Having decided to stick with the tour plans as scheduled, there was no time for the band to fully enter the grieving process, which meant that a lot of it needed to be done on the road or during their shows. One of the songs that was added to the live repertoire was from a band named Dead Moon called It's OK. This was the song that helped the band heal during this challenging time period. We'll dig into a lot of what this version meant for both the band and fans alike. Featured on the Touring Band 2000 compilation, the majority of the fanbase have been able to relive this moment over and over again throughout the years. The warmth of a song like It's OK and it's lyrics provided a message of hope. When things may appear to be at their worst, there is always a way to pick yourself up. This is how the band was feeling at the time, and this is how many of Pearl Jam fans have felt when they needed this song the most. We'll discuss this rendition being the hurdle that needed to be crossed in order to move forward and continue a life on stage post tragedy. Stay tuned for night three next week! In August of 2000, Pearl Jam was going through a period of growth following the aftermath of the tragedy at Roskilde. As they toured throughout North America, every stop was a chance to heal from that moment. As they hit close to the end of the month, they prepared for three massive shows at Jones Beach Amphitheater located on Long Island in the shadow of New York City. There was a sense that they needed to deliver, and they exceeded every expectation. Night 1's show might not get the same praise as the two that precede it, but it was a great way to warm up this crowd and get things kicked off on the right note. In this episode, we'll spend some time breaking down some classic Binaural performances such as Nothing As It Seems, God's Dice and Sleight Of Hand while sharing our favorite order to hear the Man Trilogy and a superb Long Road open. We'll also talk about this version of Daughter which sets the tone for the legendary Daughter and It's OK tag performance the next night. This is just part one! The next two episodes will cover the remaining Jones Beach shows from 2000, so stay tuned for our breakdown of those legendary nights! Kevin Nash has told a lot of wild road stories over the years, but this week may have topped them all. What started as a trip to say goodbye to Hulk Hogan turned into one of the most chaotic, uncomfortable, and unintentionally hilarious travel days of his life. From Florida traffic hell to an unplanned wardrobe change to an ending no one saw coming, Big Sexy pulls back the curtain in a way only he can. Along the way, Kevin and Sean dig into the strange intersections between wrestling and unexpected celebrity circles, from high-end Italian restaurants to Broadway theaters. It's a look at the places wrestling fandom turns up that might surprise you… and how those chance encounters can open the oddest of doors. SummerSlam gets a full post-mortem, including Cena's latest evolution, Punk's performance, Rollins' resilience, and a few production choices that drove Kevin nuts. The conversation doesn't stop there, touching on Jade Cargill's future, Braun Breakker's role in Heyman's faction, and what could be coming next for WWE's biggest storylines. There's also talk of billion-dollar business moves, cruise ship horror stories, and why sometimes the “safest” plan in wrestling production is simply putting a roof over the venue. As always, Kevin weaves personal anecdotes with sharp insight, keeping one foot in the locker room and the other firmly planted in the real world. By the time the episode wraps, you'll have laughed, cringed, and maybe learned a few things you didn't know about road survival, wrestling politics, and human nature. And yes, the legendary “PissPants” tale will be burned into your brain forever. The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most successful bands of the 1990s, both commercially and critically. Their 30 million album sales worldwide makes a strong case for their importance to the alternative rock movement. The band was formed in Chicago by guitarist James Iha, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, percussionist Jimmy Chamberlin, and frontman/guitarist Billy Corgan. Corgan writes much of their material and has been the sole member to be continuously present in the group since their formation. In 1995, Billy Corgan wrote about 56 songs and wanted to creat a double album. His vision was for Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness to be "The Wall for Generation X." The album was intended to be a conceptual piece portraying the cycle of life and death. The band brought in Flood and Alan Moulder to co-produce the album. Flood had the band change its routine for this album, having the group start recording in the rehearsal space rather than the studio in order to better capture their live sound. He also required the band to set aside time in each day for just jamming and song writing in order to keep the process from becoming a grind. The result of this effort was both a critical and commercial success. "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, the only Smashing Pumpkins album to do so thus far. The 28 songs spanning two CD's, and three vinyl LP's earned the band nominations in seven categories at the Grammy Awards, and the band won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal for the single "Bullet with Butterfly Wings."Lynch brings us this smashing multi-album for today's podcast. 1979The second single from the album features loops and samples, more of a synth-pop sound than had been present previously in Smashing Pumpkin songs. According to Corgan, this song was the last of the 56 songs he wrote for the album. The lyrics paint a picture of the transition from youth to adulthood, waiting for something to happen just around the corner.Bullet with Butterfly WingsThe lead single from the album was the band's first top 40 hit in the United States, reaching number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Musically this track has a more grunge vibe than alt rock. The lyrics are a somewhat overly dramatic portrayal of the pain that comes from being a rock star and the downsides of fame.ZeroThe shortest song on the album relates to a feeling of apathy, and being let down by emotions and spirituality. "Intoxicated with the madness, I'm in love with my sadness." Corrigan's signature look is a black shirt with the word "ZERO" printed on the front.Tonight, TonightThe symphonic orchestration of this song shows some of the diversity of the tracks on this album. The inspiration for this song is Corgan's departure from Chicago to pursue his dreams, leaving an abusive childhood behind. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra participated in the recording with a 30-piece string section. This song went to number 36 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number 7 on the UK Singles chart. STAFF PICKS:Downtown by Neil YoungRob open this week's staff picks with a grunge piece from the Godfather of Grunge. Members of the band Pearl Jam provide the backing instrumentation for this song and the album "Mirror Ball." The lyrics reference Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, and hippies doing the Charleston and the Limbo.Lump by The Presidents of the United States of AmericaWayne's staff pick is about a woman who is on the singer's mind like a lump of cancer in his brain. Clocking in at about 2 minutes, this is more of a punk song than alt rock or grunge.Hard as a Rock by AC/DCGregg brings us the first and most successful single from AC/DC's thirteenth studio album "Ballbreaker." This album marks the return of drummer Phil Rudd to the band for the first time since 1983. This song has a more blues-oriented sound than the heavy metal sound more typical of their well-known songs from the 80's. LEI (Laugh/Entertainment/Instrumental) TRACK:Main Theme from the motion picture "Strange Days"This science fiction film noir movie starring Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett takes us out of this week's podcast. In this week's episode of Totally 80's and 90's Recall, Dave and Rob dive deep into the flannel-wrapped world of one of the most iconic bands of the ‘90s—Pearl Jam. From the explosive arrival of Ten in 1991 to their fierce stance against the mainstream and Ticketmaster, Pearl Jam helped shape the grunge movement while carving their own path through the decade's chaotic music scene. We're talking raw emotion, blistering guitar riffs, and a frontman in Eddie Vedder whose voice became the battle cry for a generation disillusioned with polished pop and hair metal. Their blend of punk, classic rock, and introspective lyrics created an authentic sound that resonated with millions. Dave and Rob break down the band's cultural footprint, including their role in the Seattle sound explosion and their refusal to play the fame game. Of course, we couldn't talk about Pearl Jam without giving our Essential Top 10 Pearl Jam Songs of the ‘90s—the ones that defined the decade, made us crank up the volume, and still hit just as hard today. Whether you're a longtime fan or just jumping into their discography, this episode is a tribute to one of the most important bands of the era. Plug in, turn it up, and let's relive the sound that rocked the ‘90s. It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. Ozzy is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Kelly and his son Jack. There is information about the drowning death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Sources said Warner died on Sunday at Costa Rica's Playa Grande Beach while on a family vacation. The beach has been called "challenging," and there were signs in English and Spanish warning about the risk of drowning. There were no lifeguards present due to a lack of resources. The Caribbean Guard stated, "Although there were people on the beach who entered the water to rescue him, they did not arrive in time. He was pulled from underwater without vital signs, and despite CPR maneuvers being performed on the beach, resuscitation was unsuccessful."Warner was 54. Slipknot Fans Frustrated After Countdown Timer Ends In Disappointment Slipknot fans are in revolt after the band's mysterious countdown timer ended in disappointment. The timer was set to expire at 3pm ET on Monday - but once it reached zero, fans encountered server issue errors and requests to try again later. Eventually, it was revealed that the countdown was announcing a 25th-anniversary vinyl box set for Slipknot's 1999 self-titled album. But that news only angered fans even more, as the box set was limited to 100 total units and sold out almost immediately. Written by Selena Fragassi, Pearl Jam Live! will be out Oct. 14th from Epic Ink. Paul McCartney Nearly Appeared On 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon is considered one of the greatest albums in rock history - and it almost featured a guest appearance from a Beatle. Paul McCartney, who at the time was fronting Wings following the Beatles' breakup, actually recorded some vocals for the record - but Roger Waters ultimately decided to cut it. Waters later said McCartney's performance didn't fit with the rest of the record: "He was trying to be funny, which wasn't what we wanted at all." Pink Floyd's David Gilmour would later play on McCartney's solo album Give My Regards To Broad Street. Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham Appear On Cryptic Billboard Yet another cryptic clue has appeared teasing a possible reunion of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. It's a billboard on L.A.'s Sunset Strip featuring the cover of their 1973 pre-Fleetwood Mac-album Buckingham Nicks, along with the date Sept. 19th. Last week, Nicks and Buckingham each posted a lyric from "Frozen Love", a song from the album. Most fans are convinced it will be a long-awaited album reissue - it's been out of print for decades and not currently available digitally.Nicks and Buckingham appeared to be on the outs after Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. As we sit here only mere weeks after Matt Cameron stepped down as Pearl Jam's drummer after 27 years, it's completely understandable to be a little bit anxious for what the future of this band holds. While Cameron has been a staple since taking over for Jack Irons in 1998, there were a very small handful of times that we got to witness the band perform shows without his presence. In 2022, Cameron had to pause on touring in order to deal with a positive covid test. The band had about 24 hours to scramble and plan with the knowledge that he wasn't going to be available, so in stepped three drummers to help - Josh Klinghoffer who had just joined the band a year prior and was opening the show with solo material, long time friend and bandmate of Jeff Ament's in RNDM, Richard Stuverud, and a lucky fan who was plucked out of the crowd to be involved with a once and a lifetime experience named Josh Arroyo. After the first Oakland show in 2022, we got the opportunity to interview Josh which you can listen to here: https://liveon4legs.com/podcast/pearl-jam-fan-profile-josh-arroyo/ Since that time, Josh has become a great friend to the podcast and community, and we're thankful to have him join us on this episode to discuss the departure of Matt Cameron, and also get to hear another side of the story that he didn't get to share in our original interview. He'll take us through his backstage tryout and how the Pearl Jam security team and management knew him prior to his appearance on Ledbetter. He'll also share stories of mingling with Ed at Bridge School and Ohana shows, and he'll share his opinion on who he thinks the next drummer for Pearl Jam will be. We'll also run down the setlist and talk about Rockin In The Free World opening a show for the first ever time, the origins behind Nothingman in connection with Richard Stuverud, and what to be prepared for as we move into a new chapter of Pearl Jam without Matt Cameron. In episode 1025 of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards recaps his weekend at the Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza, meeting fans and selling merch, and teases a barnburner live stream with Shaun Yurtkuran. The duo dove deep into Tulsi Gabbard's release of documents alleging Obama and Hillary spied on Trump's 2016 campaign via FISA warrants and Operation Crossfire Hurricane—Clay trusts Trump, calls it above his pay grade to explain fully, but slams media for past lies like Russiagate. Clay explores the Epstein intrigue, including Trump's alleged birthday card, viewing it as a distraction tactic amid file release demands. He discusses the MLK Jr. files revealing infidelity, but maintains MLK's civil rights legacy unchanged, drawing parallels to Trump's complicated personal life—great men often are flawed, but their achievements stand. A viral Jacksonville video sparks debate: a man punched after refusing 7 exit commands on a traffic stop for no headlights. Clay blames non-compliance, not race, noting the man had a suspended license and marijuana; calls out grifting creators like Carmen Jacy for backpedaling on police support. Listener calls and texts weigh in on compliance, authority, and First Amendment auditors pushing boundaries. Music rants dominate: Clay hates "nerd rock" like Coldplay (worse than cheating scandal at their concert), Tool, U2, jam bands (Dave Matthews, Widespread Panic), and Pearl Jam. Praises real bands: Creed, Limp Bizkit (possible tour), Pantera, Metallica (stadium kings), Nickelback, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Poison. Overrated picks from texts: Metallica, Morgan Wallen, Travis Scott. Clay addresses critics calling him racist for highlighting crime/corruption, insisting facts don't lie—poverty excuses enable bad behavior. Calls debate police state vs. accountability, urging compliance to avoid self-inflicted harm.Unfiltered takes on politics, culture, and tunes—strap in for reality radio!
In a fiery segment from episode #1025 of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards unleashes a passionate rant on music, sparked by a viral Coldplay concert scandal involving a cheating CEO. Clay slams Coldplay as "fake smart people music," comparing it to Tool's "nerd metal" and calling both wildly overrated. He and Shaun Yurtkuran, from their Uncensored livestream, dive into a lively debate, trashing bands like U2, Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, and Pearl Jam for their "jam band" excess, while praising "real" acts like Creed, Limp Bizkit, Pantera, Metallica (the greatest metal band ever), Nickelback, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, and Poison. Clay marvels at Oasis's comeback, noting their fans' Woodstock ‘99-level energy despite their mellow sound, and laughs at Limp Bizkit's audacious album title Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog Flavored Water, untouchable in today's woke climate. Listeners chime in via the Guns & Gear text line, naming overrated acts like Metallica, Morgan Wallen, and Travis Scott, while Clay defends Def Leppard's consistency and blasts modern rap. This high-energy music debate is a nostalgic, unfiltered romp through rock, metal, and culture.
Jason and Paul are joined by I Am No Guide author Brian "Stip" Stipelman and Concertpants aka Sheehan Perera to pay tribute to drummer Matt Cameron as he leaves Pearl Jam. RUNDOWN Music history in honor of Tommy Mottola's July 14 birthday—Mitch details how Mottola signed Hall & Oates and running through each of their six No. 1 hits. The “audio clip of the week” spotlights former Cubs manager Lee Elia's legendary profanity-laden tirade at Wrigley Field after a 5–14 start in 1983. Mitch and Hotshot celebrate Seattle's sweep of first-place Detroit and reviewing the Mariners' 51–45 first-half record, good enough for a wild-card spot if the season ended today. Mitch explains why he's optimistic—his rotation is poised to string together quality starts, and an offense buoyed by hot streaks from Randy Arozarena, strong on-base work from JP Crawford, and newfound production from lower-order hitters means the club doesn't need Cal Raleigh to carry the load alone. Mariners bounce back from a blown five-run lead and near no-hitter loss in New York to sweep the AL's best Tigers, cementing a wild-card spot at the All-Star break. Mariners No-Table (Brady Farkas) unpack the unexpected selection of LSU lefty Cade Anderson (saved under slot, with a high floor) as a near-MLB-ready arm, dissect Julio Rodríguez's decision to skip the ASG before homering in each Detroit game, and express outrage that Gino Suárez (31 HRs) wasn't invited to the Home Run Derby. Mitch and Puck chat KJRn'ts Chapter 8 by commiserating over their sudden need for reading glasses and sharing a wild family dare in which Mitch finally ate an entire bowl of mushrooms after his son aced the SAT. They then catch up on life—Jason's youth baseball woes, Mitch's freshman at Arizona—and take playful shots at Jim Moore's “top sports radio hosts” rankings. In this throwback to Ep. 197 (July 5, 2022), Mitch sits down with Rhonda Smith Banchero to revisit her own collegiate battles—most memorably guarding Cheryl Swoopes—and to explore how her “tough-love” coaching shaped Paolo's rise to the No. 1 NBA draft pick. Rhonda shares the moment she bowed out of one-on-one after seventh grade, her deliberate accountability style at home, and the family's bittersweet pride as Paolo chose Duke over UW. Now that he's secured a record-setting $239 million extension, her insights on nurturing a champion feel more poignant than ever. From the news that Michael Jordan's Highland Park estate is now an Airbnb (no parties allowed) to celebrity-boxing matchups, LeBron's Beverly Hills compound, Wimbledon winners, and even the exit of Pearl Jam's longtime drummer Matt Cameron, Mitch and Hotshot pack a whirlwind of sports and pop-culture headlines into one rapid-fire segment.
