Another week, another great modcast coming your way. I'm, kicking off the show with an American 60s band that sounds almost more mod than the British mods of their day. The band is Powder and I included them this week in part because this coming Saturday I'm going to get to meet them when they play at the Studio 66 mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery here in Seattle, and lucky me I'm going to be the guest DJ. Another thing that is making this week's show especially good is that I'm joined by my old friend Dean Hoth who is the singer and bass player for power pop band The Eddies. Additionally Dean has been a behind the scenes mover and shaker in producing some great tribute albums, and is also working on releasing unheard live materials of older mod bands from the 80s to the 90s to the 21st century. Jascha Kreft ist 1990 in einem Städtchen namens Norden in Ostfriesland zur Welt gekommen und dort auf dem flachen Lande aufgewachsen.Mit 21 zieht er nach Berlin. Er landet im Dunstkreis der legendären 8mm Bar, wird Schlagzeuger bei der Post-Punk-Psych-Band Sons Of Thyme, mit denen er zwei Alben veröffentlicht.Sein Freund aus Kindheitstagen, Tammo Dehn, zieht auch bald nach Berlin. Mit ihm gründet Kreft das Duo Odd Couple. Zu zweit spielen sie zunächst Garage Rock, wandeln sich im Laufe von fünf Alben jedoch stetig.Gerade erschienen ist „Rush-Hour des Lebens“, auf dem Odd Couple sich zwischen Neo-Krautrock, Psych-Pop, Dada und Gaga ausleben.Als Multiinstrumentalist hilft Kreft mal bei CV Vision, Cult Hands oder dem Frank Popp Ensemble am Schlagzeug aus oder kümmert sich um Layouts und Fotos befreundeter Künstler.Mit Pult hat er außerdem 2024 eine neue Band gegründet. Wieder ein Duo, diesmal instrumental und irgendwo zwischen Psych, Worldbeat und Americana pendelnd.Außerdem haben die 70s Heavy Rocker Kadavar 2023 Kreft eingestellt. Mit ihm als Verstärkung am Synthesizer und der zweiten Gitarre erfinden sich Kadavar auf ihrem Album „I Just Want To Be A Sound“ neu.Weil all das aber nicht unbedingt den Kühlschrank füllt, hat Kreft einst seine Ausbildung bei Motor Music gemacht und arbeitet immer wieder bei Labels und Verlagen. What can I say about the Small Faces that hasn't already been said? Not much honestly. I'm not a Small Faces junky.  But I do love their music. In fact, in my earliest mod days I think I preferred them to The Who. It's been said that The Who was a band that became mods, but the Small Faces were mods who became a band. I was looking for some covers of Small Faces songs when I realized how few there really are out there. Compared to the hundreds of covers of The Who, The Kinks, The Stones and other British invasion acts of the 60s, I was shocked at just how few people have covered their songs over the years. And amongst those, fewer still ones that are really any good. I've gathered here a double handful that I think fit the bill and do the group justice.
