C dans l'air du 16 février - Alexeï Navalny : mort dans le goulag de Poutine Alexeï Navalny n'est plus. L'opposant politique principal de Vladimir Poutine est mort ce vendredi, à l'âge de 47 ans, lors d'une promenade dans sa colonie pénitentiaire IK-3 de Kharp, située dans la région d'Iamalo-Nénétsie, au-delà du cercle polaire arctique. "A. Navalny s'est senti mal après une promenade et a presque immédiatement perdu connaissance (…) Les urgentistes ont constaté le décès du condamné, les causes de la mort sont en train d'être établies", a déclaré, dans un communiqué, le service fédéral de l'exécution des peines (FSIN) du district autonome Iamalo-Nenets, dans le Grand Nord russe. Pour les soutiens d'Alexeï Navalny, il s'agit clairement d'un meurtre : "Depuis la tentative d'empoisonnement en 2020 et son incarcération en janvier 2021, ils n'ont cessé d'essayer de le tuer", a réagi dans une interview au magazine Le Point Natalia Morozova, juriste pour l'ONG russe de lutte contre les répressions, Memorial, liquidée par la Cour suprême il y a trois ans. L'avocat et fondateur de la Fondation anticorruption (FBK) avait été condamné en août dernier à 19 ans de prison pour "extrémisme". Malgré des messages ironiques postés sur son compte Twitter en décembre dernier, ses conditions de détention à Kharp étaient extrêmement dures avec des températures pouvant atteindre -40 °C l'hiver. Surtout, l'opposant à Vladimir Poutine avait déjà échappé une première fois à la mort en août 2020, lorsqu'il avait été empoisonné au Novitchok. Soigné pendant de longs mois dans un hôpital allemand, il avait été arrêté dès son retour en Russie en janvier 2021, pour avoir violé les conditions d'une peine de prison avec sursis, à laquelle il avait été condamné en 2014. C'est donc un opposant de moins pour Vladimir Poutine, 71 ans, qui prépare sa réélection à la tête de l'État. Prévue dans un mois, la présidentielle russe devrait être une simple formalité pour l'autocrate qui totalise déjà 80 % des intentions de vote. La semaine dernière, le seul candidat à la popularité grandissante, Boris Nadejdine, a vu sa candidature rejetée par la commission électorale centrale qui prétextait des erreurs dans ses signatures de parrainage. En mai dernier, cet ancien député et diplômé en droit avait appelé lors d'un débat télévisé à remplacer Vladimir Poutine, devant une audience abasourdie. Une sortie médiatique qui a sûrement achevé son sort. D'autres n'ont pas eu la même chance. En février 2015, Boris Nemstov, virulent critique de Vladimir Poutine, avait été abattu à Moscou. Avant lui, les opposants Mikhaïl Beketov (2013), Natalia Estemirova (2009), ou encore la journaliste Anna Politkovskaïa (2006), avaient subi des sorts quasi-similaires. Dernier en date, Evgueni Prigogine, l'ancien chef du groupe paramilitaire Wagner, a été tué lors d'un crash d'avion en décembre 2023. Un petit engin explosif aurait été placé sous une des ailes de l'avion, selon le Wall Street Journal. Longtemps réputé proche de Vladimir Poutine, Evgueni Prigogine s'était brouillé avec le président russe pendant la guerre en Ukraine, alors que ses mercenaires participaient aux combats. Le 24 juin 2023, après avoir dénoncé des frappes russes sur ses propres troupes, il avait ordonné à ses hommes de marcher vers Moscou pour mettre la pression sur Vladimir Poutine. Finalement avortée, sa tentative de rébellion pourrait avoir signé son arrêt de mort, selon le Wall Street Journal, qui attribue "l'attentat" à l'appareil d'État russe. Pendant ce temps, la guerre continue en Ukraine, où les combats se concentrent actuellement à Avdiivka, dans l'oblast de Donetsk, à l'est du pays. Depuis l'échec de sa contre-offensive à l'automne 2023, Kiev tente de contenir les assauts militaires russes, mais se heurte à un manque de soldats et surtout de munitions. Ces derniers mois, l'armée russe a assiégé la cité industrielle d'Avdiivka, compliquant le retrait des forces ukrainiennes, qui viennent de surcroit de changer de chef des armées. Tandis que le Parlement américain bloque encore l'aide financière de 60 milliards de dollars promise par Joe Biden à l'Ukraine, le président ukrainien Volodymyr Zelensky s'est rendu jeudi à Berlin, puis aujourd'hui à Paris, pour y signer deux accords de sécurité bilatéraux avec l'Allemagne et la France.
