AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by the faculty that will teach the upcoming AABP Stocker Management Seminar. The faculty include Dr. John Groves, Dr. Dan Cummings and Dr. John Richeson. The seminar will take place in Ashland, Ohio at AABP headquarters July 11-12, 2025. Details about this seminar, including the schedule of events, registration link and hotel information can be found under the Continuing Education menu then select Seminars or directly on this page. This seminar has been approved for 15.5 hours of continuing education in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval. The fee for the seminar is $450 and includes lunches both days. Attendance is limited to 25. Feeder cattle populations managed on stocker/backgrounding operations represent a critical segment of the cattle industry. The stocker segment of the industry has evolved into many diverse and specialized business models in recent decades, and practicing veterinarians often find it challenging to serve stocker cattle operations. The seminar will dive into topics that are important to this segment of the cattle industry including transportation and arrival management, host immune response and altered immune function, arrival vaccination, arrival antimicrobials and ancillary products, epidemiologic principles, nutritional management and parasite control. The second day will focus on bovine respiratory disease (BRD) management, diagnostics, surveillance, case definitions and treatment protocols both parenteral and feed grade products, The group will also discuss non-BRD disease in stocker operations such as enteric, neurologic, toxic and nutritional disease. The discussion will also include break-out sessions to discuss cases and present to the group. A systems perspective on BRD and antimicrobial resistance in stocker operations will also be included. The primary mission of AABP is to provide relevant continuing education for cattle veterinarians. AABP recognizes that some veterinarians are unable to devote time attending seminars at the AABP conference. In response to this need, AABP is offering two-day seminar courses outside of the annual and recent graduate conferences. These courses are held in Ashland, Ohio at the AABP office to provide a lower cost option in a small-town atmosphere. All AABP members are invited to register for the seminar. For questions, contact Dr. Fred Gingrich at fred@aabp.org.

GerhardCALLS TO ACTION

Experience with Our Automated Calf Feeder In this episode, Brad goes solo to talk about the ups and downs of using an automatic calf feeder at the U of M dairy. He shares why they made the switch, how the setup has changed over the years, and what they've learned—like how ad lib feeding boosts growth and why cleanliness is everything. The feeder's been a game changer for efficiency and calf health, but maintenance headaches and mouse-chewed wires have tested his patience. Still, it's hard to argue with the results. On Tuesday's edition of SaskAgToday with Ryan Young: -President of Pulse Canada Greg Cherewyk says he had productive meetings in China recently. The meetings come amid 100 per cent tariffs on canola products and peas, as well as a 25 per cent tariff on seafood and pork. -Feeder cattle prices in Saskatchewan were up again, according to the weekly cattle market update from Canfax. -Farm groups are wondering if changes to AgriStability are worthwhile. -The USDA released its first farmer seeding intentions report of the year.
Rob and Jeremy took some time from Tuesday's BBMS to share their reactions to the issues facing baseball "tanking" teams. Former big-leaguer-turned-MLBPA-rep Andrew Miller said MLB owners can rid the game of "bottom feeder" teams but they don't want to institute a salary floor. Is the MLBPA's solution as simple as it seems?

The Edmonton Oilers suffered a painful loss at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, which meant there was plenty to discuss on the first episode of Oilersnation Radio of the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the new Oilers, Monday's disappointing loss to Buffalo, and much more. The guys kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the pieces the Oilers picked up at the trade deadline and what positives we're seeing from our newest players. Starting with Jake Walman, everyone on the podcast is pretty excited about the first couple of games he's played and how he seems to have a range of skills that the team desperately needed. The guys also had good things to say about the way Max Jones has played in his first handful of games, especially the way he's throwing his body around pretty much every shift he's out there.Changing gears, we dug into Monday's loss against the Buffalo Sabres and how the result was as disappointing as it gets. Despite facing a bottom-feeder amid a six-game losing streak, the Oilers struggled to gain traction and ultimately fell by a single goal for a regulation loss. Whether you focused on the costly turnovers, the lack of secondary scoring, or the team's inability to get a save when they needed it, there are countless reasons for last night's loss. But no matter how you dissect the loss, there are countless issues that the team needs to correct immediately. Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a random collection of topics, including some betting talk regarding NFL free agency, what the Oilers need to improve to ensure this road trip is better than the last, Aaron Ekblad's PED suspension, and much more. Needless to say, the guys always have plenty to talk about when the Oilers are struggling the way they are. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

That remains down pretty sharply year-to-date. Hog slaughter was virtually flat with last week at 2.54 million head, but also down pretty sharply year-to-date. Another item is interest is calf slaughter, which is down more than 30% year-over-year to date. Bellies remain one of the more interesting items in the report – up 24% from last month, but 39% below last year Other notes:Last weekly data on live cattle imports from Mexico were from the third week of February. For perspective, this quantity was about 26% of the average during 2024.Tariff uncertainties continue – the potential for retaliatory tariffs remains and uncertainty in the market.Connect with Brownfield Ag News:» Get the latest ag news: https://www.brownfieldagnews.com/» Subscribe to Brownfield on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@BrownfieldAgNews» Follow Brownfield on X (Twitter): https://x.com/brownfield» Follow Brownfield on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BrownfieldAgNewsAbout Brownfield Ag News:Brownfield Ag News is your trusted source for reliable agriculture news, market trends, weather updates, and expert interviews. In recent years, the intersection of technology and nature has given rise to innovative products that enhance our understanding and appreciation of wildlife. One such product that has garnered attention is the Birdfy smart bird feeder equipped with dual cameras. This remarkable device not only caters to bird enthusiasts but also provides a unique opportunity for anyone interested in observing and documenting avian life in their own backyards. The Innovation Behind Dual CamerasAt the forefront of the Birdfy is the dual-camera system that allows for a comprehensive view of birds as they visit the feeder. Unlike traditional bird feeders that offer a single perspective, these smart feeders are designed to capture images and videos from multiple angles. The primary camera, often equipped with advanced features such as 2K resolution for still images and 1080p for video, focuses on the front view of the birds. It can automatically detect when a bird arrives, sending notifications to the user's smartphone and identifying the species present. This capability not only enhances the user experience but also fosters a deeper connection with the natural world by providing educational insights. The secondary camera serves an equally important function: it captures side-angle views of the birds. This feature addresses a common concern among birdwatchers who want to ensure they do not miss any detail of these beautiful creatures. The ability to adjust the angle of the cameras allows users to customize their viewing experience, ensuring that they can appreciate the intricate details of the birds' plumage and behavior.Enhanced User Experience through TechnologyThe integration of smart technology into bird feeding has transformed a simple pastime into an interactive experience. Users can access Birdfy's accompanying app, which not only streams live footage but also compiles highlights of the day's bird visits. This feature allows birdwatchers to review the most memorable moments and track which species frequent their yards most often. Sharing these experiences with friends and family adds a social dimension to birdwatching, fostering a community of nature lovers. Moreover, Birdfy's weatherproof design ensures durability in various climates, from the scorching heat of Arizona to the frigid temperatures of winter. This resilience allows bird enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby year-round without worrying about equipment failure due to environmental factors. The Broader Implications of Smart Bird FeedersThe advent of Birdfy signifies more than just a technological advancement; it reflects a growing trend of merging technology with environmental stewardship. By making birdwatching more accessible and engaging, these devices encourage people to connect with nature and foster a sense of responsibility for wildlife conservation. As users become more invested in the birds visiting their feeders, they may also be inspired to support conservation efforts and promote biodiversity in their local ecosystems.Additionally, the data collected through these devices can contribute to citizen science initiatives. By documenting bird species and their behaviors, users can aid researchers in understanding avian populations and their responses to environmental changes. This collaborative approach to wildlife observation can lead to valuable insights that inform conservation strategies and policies. Conclusion: Technology and Nature in a Beautiful BondBirdfy represents a significant advancement in the way we interact with and observe wildlife. By combining cutting-edge technology with a love for nature, these devices not only enhance the birdwatching experience but also promote environmental awareness and conservation efforts. As more people embrace this innovative approach to bird feeding, we can anticipate a greater appreciation for the avian world and a collective commitment to preserving it for future generations. In a rapidly changing environment, such tools serve as a reminder of the beauty and complexity of nature, inviting us to pause, observe, and engage with the world around us.All Birdfy models are available from the company's store, as well as their Amazon Store and Walmart Store.Interview by Don Baine, The Gadget Professor.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. Feeder Cattle Imports From Mexico & Red Angus Heifers Selling Feeder Cattle Imports From Mexico Set To Resume In January Imports of feeder cattle from Mexico are expected to partially resume the week of Jan. 20, with full live animal movements anticipated later, according to a Drovers report. The initial reopening will be gradual to implement and test new protocols. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) suspended cattle and bison imports from Mexico on Nov. 22, 2024, after detecting New World screwworm near Mexico's southern border. The pest poses a significant risk to cattle health, prompting the development of stringent screening protocols. The suspension has led to an estimated 250,000-300,000 fewer cattle imports and supported higher U.S. feeder cattle and calf prices, again that according to Drovers.
