If the name "Raffetto" sounds familiar to you, it's because today's guest, Sarah Raffetto, is part of a pasta conglomerate spanning 4 generations! Her family business, Raffetto's Fresh Pasta, has been a Greenwich Village staple since 1906. In addition to being pasta royalty (literally, Sarah's instagram handle is @pastaheiress) - she is also my @petitepastajoint business partner. Sarah had the most special bond with her Nonna Romana - they were even roommates for a decade. In today's episode we talk about Sarah's childhood as an extremely picky eater, Italian guilt laid on thick, Sarah's secret acting aspirations and more. Sarah also tells us about her Nonna's pink rice: a simple dish that will always remind her of Nonna Romana. You can find Sarah: On instagram: @pastaheiress At her family business slinging pasta on the daily: @raffettos_pasta / raffettospasta.com (PS: they ship internationally via Goldbely and locally via Mercato so get you some ravioli) And of course, at @petitepastajoint - our pasta pop-up and private events company!
We blast off down memory lane by binge watching every Saturday Morning cartoon we can think of. It is an epic episode. We started with a rat movie. A rat movie with Peter Weller trying to kill a giant rat. Then, we went down a long, winding tunnel of Raspberry Awards for worst screenplays. We realized some of these movies are too good to be on this list and others deserve to be here. Tune in and binge with us. Demons, Demons 2, and Terror Vision are discussed to death, including mentioning the seven unofficial sequels, but it is very funny, John is accused of being a spoiler, thoughts on HBO's Andre The Giant, and the Binge Watchers get a little foodie while exploring the late night food options on goldbely while talking about Stranger Things and the Netflix way of life. Lots of side discussions. And where is our missing co host? I recently came across some mouth-watering pics on the internet that would give anyone a severe case of the munchies. But I quickly noticed many of the best photos on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter were from a company called Goldbely who call themselves a curated e-commerce food marketplace. Goldbely finds America’s most unique, creative, and legendary foods from across the country, and ships them to your front door. It’s one of those moments where you see a video or picture of your friend eating something delicious, and you want to try it, except – you’re not in the same city as them. Goldbely solves this and creates a new revenue stream for small and local food shops. For the first time, people are now able to connect with the foods they remember from childhood/their hometowns, give the gift of nostalgia, or experience the latest viral sensations or most popular food trends. Goldbely’s model is continuing to disrupt the supply chain and empower small shops to reach new audiences. By taking once obscure and artisanal products and making them available to everyone, Goldbely is uniquely positioned within the space, as it is among the first to offer regional/iconic food heroes with a new revenue stream. After hearing how Goldbely also raised a $10M Series A to ship food from America’s most popular restaurants, I invited Joe Ariel, CEO, and CoFounder of Goldbely on to the show. We talk about the technology behind scaling local cuisine experiences to a national audience.
During the Female Founders Conference Kat Manalac invited three YC founders on stage to share their experiences of fundraising. The founders are Elizabeth Iorns of Science Exchange, Vanessa Torrivilla of Goldbely, and Erica Jensen of The Flex Company.
Special guest: Mark H joins us and tells a ghastly story about remodeling a house and discovering weird objects in walls. We also talk the tv show Legion, the Kim Jong-Nam assassination, the wonderful novella Every Heart A Doorway, We eat Detroit pizza delivered by Goldbely, Mark recommends the tv show Taboo, we talk the 2nd season of Baskets and more!
Jenna spends time with the Goldbely team to highlight their goal of delivering your favorite local foods right to your door.
