On this episode of Word Balloon, I'm joined by writer Dave Baker to talk about his new Top Shelf graphic novel Punk N' Head, a wild, heartfelt, and sharp-edged story that blends music, identity, and outsider energy into something that feels both chaotic and personal. Dave breaks down the inspiration behind the book, the visual collaboration, and why this one hits close to home.We also get into his adventures in animation writing. The hustle, the rooms, the realities of working in that fast-moving industry, and he shares an absolutely insane story about developing a Navy SEALs vs. aliens film that proves Hollywood can be as surreal as any sci-fi script. On top of that, we talk about his own podcast Deep Cuts, where Dave digs into the overlooked, under-discussed corners of pop culture. It's a funny, candid, and occasionally unbelievable conversation about making comics, surviving the entertainment business, and finding your voice in the chaos.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has delayed its highly anticipated “first-of-its-kind” coaster to 2027, citing the attraction's complexity and a commitment to quality. The project—reported to be a Vekoma Thrill Glider—was part of the company's broader $1 billion investment plan and would have been the park's first major coaster addition since 2022.At the same time, Six Flags confirmed a significant pivot toward family-focused IP with the announcement of Looney Tunes Land, a fully reimagined children's area opening in summer 2026 with upgraded storytelling, expanded green space, new theming, and refreshed dining.Taken together, these moves raise questions about where Six Flags is placing its near-term bets. Coasters are increasingly expensive and time-intensive to build, and ongoing tariff uncertainty may be influencing capital timelines. The decision to prioritize Looney Tunes—rather than Peanuts—could also signal a push toward IP diversification tied to Warner Bros., especially as broader questions remain about how Magic Mountain and Knott's Berry Farm will coexist and differentiate within the same Southern California market. We explore whether this reflects a temporary pause on thrill-heavy investments, a reorientation toward families and reliability, or simply a pragmatic sequencing of projects while the company navigates post-merger integration and external pressures. We also touch briefly on winter and holiday programming that caught our attention, including China's massive Ice-Snow World and Alton Towers' Santa Sleepover in the U.K., as operators worldwide look for ways to stabilize attendance across unpredictable seasons. Rodney picked this one, and can you say you're surprised? The Film School Janitors watched the low-brow, low-budget horror (?)/ comedy (?!) called EVIL TOONS. Is there evil? Yes. Is there 'toons? Only one 'toon for about 90 seconds. But there are a couple of other reasons to watch this trashy flick - why David Carradine and Dick Miller, of course! What were you thinking?

The Blind Rage Podcast turns up the sleaze with EVIL TOONS (1992), a late-night mashup of haunted house horror, bawdy comedy, and a horny cartoon monster that's way too handsy for its own good. Four buxom young women are hired to “clean” an old mansion, but their feather dusters barely hit the floor before an ancient book coughs up a leering, animated demon with a taste for bare skin. Between the endless topless antics, rubbery gore gags, and a half-asleep David Carradine wandering in and out of frame, Fred Olen Ray delivers something closer to an R-rated Saturday morning cartoon that got locked in the wrong time slot.

Our future influences the past, and there's a new Yosemite Sam Mandela Effect. Visit https://rise.tv/video for free exclusive content! Visit https://metaphysicalcoffee.com for coffee that's out of this world! Hear all about it on Edge of Wonder Live with Ben and Rob. One of the most beloved characters in Looney Tunes (or Toons, depending on how you remember it) is Yosemite Sam. His catchphrase has been etched in pop culture with references everywhere. However, there's a problem. He apparently never said his popular catchphrase. In related news and in the quantum realm, physicists now believe that the choices we make in the future do influence our past. Could this be a partial explanation of the Mandela Effect? They are calling it Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser, a mind-bending concept where the act of observing a particle can seemingly reach back in time to change what happened before the observation. Find out tonight what this all means. During the “Dig Deep” Live Q&A segment, ask Ben and Rob your questions directly. In the fan-favorite Top 10 Weirder News of the Week, hear hilarious and bizarre stories, such as Frankenstein rabbits, a galaxy of cosmic grapes, energy drink cans accidentally filled with an unfortunate substance, a Hulk Hogan cloud, and more only on Rise TV. As always, we'll see you out… on the edge!

Send us a textYou know, reality is a bitch when you're experiencing your own personal Event Horizon while wearing yogurt pants and a goiter meat mask. What the hell are we talking about? That's a very good question and one that can only be answered by listening to our continuation of Sci-Fi Spooktober. This week we watch and discuss the 1997 Sci-Fi Horror film Event Horizon directed by Paul Anderson. Has time been unkind to this movie or is it a hidden gem that bombed at the box office? Turn up your headphones, dial back your sensibilities, and join the wretched hive of scum and villainy as we take the low road to resistance on Season Six, Episode Twenty Four of Force Insensitive!Send Email/Voicemail: mailto:forceinsensitive@gmail.comDirect Voice Message: https://www.speakpipe.com/ForceInsensitiveStart your own podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=386Use our Amazon link: http://amzn.to/2CTdZzKFB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ForceInsensitive/Twitter: http://twitter.com/ForceNSensitiveFacebook: http://facebook.com/ForceInsensitiveInstagram: http://instagram.com/ForceInsensitive

The first Footnote podcast of the new season kicks off with this discussion of enviro-toons, a category - perhaps even sub-genre - of animation that speaks to the complex relationship that exists between the representations of (and labour processes behind) the animated medium and the environment. Topics include the questionable ‘greenness' of animation and how specific cartoons might engage ecological concerns within their narratives; anthropomorphic subjectivity as a way to display images of urban sprawl; the environmental impact and sustainability of animation production, from the reuse of cels during Classical Hollywood to the repurposing of biodegradable stop-motion sets; and what the contemporary era of AI and machine learning means for how we understand animation's growing cost to the environment. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**
YOOOO Welcome back to the Blerd and Beyond Podcast. Have you ever thought about What if your favorite cartoon characters were in the zombie apocalypse? Would they team up with each other? Well tonight we got the answers sway. This one has an interesting twist that you don't want to miss. Always Remember Captain Planet He's are hero
It's our fourth episode of the increasingly-inaccurately-titled Patreon Request "Month" 2025, and in the longest official episode of this podcast to date, the randomizer is going all the way back to 1988 to pick ArthurCrane's request for, quite simply, one of the greatest cinematic triumphs of all time, a tour-de-force of animation, live action and pre-CGI special effects wizardry, wrapped up in a still-relevant metaphorical fable about civil rights and gentrification set in an impossible fantasy world that combines a gritty film noir aesthetic with off-the-wall cartoon zaniness. Directed by future Oscar-winning blockbuster visionary Robert Zemeckis at the peak of his powers, with animation directed by often-underappreciated genius Richard Williams, and representing a Disney studio with new management eager to swing for the fences and conquer the world, this masterpiece was truly a once-in-a-lifetime perfect melding of artistry, ambition and anarchy. And granted, the whole project was blown out of the water just a few years later by the even greater achievement that was Ralph Bakshi's Cool World, but this movie was still pretty darn swell too. Cast & characters: Bob Hoskins (Eddie Valiant), Christopher Lloyd (Judge Doom), Charles Fleischer (Roger Rabbit/Benny the Cab), Kathleen Turner (Jessica Rabbit – voice), Joanna Cassidy (Dolores), Stubby Kaye (Marvin Acme), Alan Tilvern (R.K. Maroon), Richard LeParmentier (Lt. Santino), Lou Hirsch (Baby Herman – voice), Mel Blanc (Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck/Tweety – voices), Mae Questel (Betty Boop – voice). Most iconic scenes we cover: Jessica's “Why Don't You Do Right?” at the Ink & Paint Club, the “patty-cake” scandal photos, Benny the Cab chase, the Daffy vs. Donald dueling pianos, Judge Doom dipping the poor shoe, the handcuff gag in Eddie's office, the warehouse finale with the Dip cannon, the “shave and a haircut” knock, and Doom's Toon reveal with the steam-roller. Most quotable lines: “I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way.” • “Shave and a haircut—two bits!” • “Remember me, Eddie? When I killed your brother, I talked JUST… LIKE… THIS!” • “Patty-cake?!” • “Toons. Gets 'em every time.” We also shout out Amblin/Disney's mega crossover cameos (Bugs & Mickey free-fall!), the puppeteering tricks, shadow integration, and why this 1988 classic still feels mind-blowingly modern.
