Romans 14: 7-12; Rs psalm 27: 1.4.13-14; Luke 15: 1-10.BEING GOD'S PEOPLE Our meditation todayhas entitled: Being God's People. The teenager and adult catechumens arepreparing themselves for baptism in the coming Holy Week. They hold regulardiscussions at every meeting during learning activities. There was a veryinteresting discussion session, and a young man who participated in this sessionthen shared his reflection. At that time theydiscussed on the consequences one should face after the baptism. In general,they understand that all rules and teachings in the Catholic Church must bediligently followed. For this young man, those general guidelines andinstructions are very normative. That means, each and every member of theCatholic Church must obey and practice them. The focus of his attention is hispersonal commitment to be responsible for his own faith. He is very seriousabout that commitment. This has abackground. Before choosing to be baptized Catholic, he had gone throughperiods of conflict and suffering. He involved in many types of crimes in thesociety, and had spent two years life in prison. Reflecting on his way of life,he then made a conclusion, that if God had created him, God certainly will takecare and guide him, even though he is a very sinful person. In short, he cannotrun away from God. God will catch him anywhere and anytime. The young man reallyrealizes that he belongs to God. This belief then led him to the decision tochoose to come close to God, through baptism in the Catholic Church. The youngman's experience is a reflection of what is said in the first reading of today,that is, whether we live or die, we remain belong to God. As God has good andrighteous people, this is something very natural. They always reveal the faceof God in the world through their real lives. They are the light of God for theworld. But this does notmean that God closes His eyes to those who are sinners or who are weak infaith. A husband and wife never give up on their children who do not praydiligently, do not attend the Holy Mass regularly every Sunday, and are notactive in Church activities. They believe that their children still belong toGod. Even though it seems they are far away and outside the circle of theChurch, they also never forget and negate God. They still pray individually andentrust their lives into God's hands. In fact, God isguiding them and many others who are living like the lost sheep, who in propertime will return to the sheepfold, the Church. Everyone has his or her own timeto become again the good sheep. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O tender and kind Lord, make us Your true shepherds who will find the manylost sheeps in whatever place in this world, and to bring them back to You.Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name ofthe Father...

Read Online“A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many. When the time for the dinner came, he dispatched his servant to say to those invited, ‘Come, everything is now ready.' But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.”  Luke 14:16–18Do you ever excuse yourself from the will of God? Do you pass up His invitation to feast at the table of His great dinner? More than anything else, the invitation God has given us to this “great dinner” is the invitation to participate in the Holy Mass and to pray. The fact that some would regularly excuse themselves from such an invitation shows that they do not understand that to which they have been invited. Others attend physically, but interiorly they are far from the feast that they attend.In this parable, one after another of the invited guests did not come. So the man throwing the dinner sent out an invitation to “the poor and the crippled, the blind and the lame.” This is a reference to those Jews of Jesus' time who recognized their need for the gift of salvation. They are those who were aware of their weaknesses and sins and knew that Jesus was the answer.After the poor, crippled, blind and lame came to the feast, there was still more room. So the man sent his servants to invite those from “the highways and hedgerows” which is a reference to the Gospel being preached to the Gentiles who were not of Jewish origin.Today, this feast continues to be offered. There are many lax Catholics, however, who refuse to come. There are those who find that life is too busy for them to make time for prayer and for Mass. They are those who are so caught up in worldly pursuits that they see little personal benefit in devoting themselves to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.If you wish to be among those who attend the feast of our Lord, you must work to identify yourself with the poor, crippled, blind and lame. You must recognize your brokenness, weaknesses and sins. You must not shy away from seeing yourself this way because it is to those that Jesus sends a desperate invitation. His desperation is an all-consuming desire for us to share in His love. He wants to love and heal those in need. We are those who are in need.When we come to our Lord's Feast through prayer, fidelity to His Word, and by our participation in the Sacraments, we will notice that He wants others to join us for His feast. Therefore, we must also see ourselves as those servants who are sent forth to the highways and hedgerows where we will find those who do not follow God's will. They must be invited. Though they might not feel as though they belong, God wants them at His feast. We must do the inviting. Reflect, today, upon two things. First, reflect upon any excuse you regularly use when God invites you to pray, to deepen your faith, and to participate in the Eucharist. Do you respond immediately and with eagerness? Or do you excuse yourself more often than you want to admit? Reflect, also, upon the duty given to you by God to go forth to the most lost souls so as to invite them to God's feast. Our Lord wants everyone to know they are invited. Let Him use you to send forth His invitation. My generous Lord, You have invited me to share in the glory of Your great Feast. You invite me every day to pray, grow strong in my faith, and to share in the Holy Eucharist. May I always respond to You and never excuse myself from Your invitations. Last Saturday, our parish retreat was an astounding success! It was a day that will long be remembered, not merely for the crowd it drew, but for the spirit that filled the air. Nearly two hundred and fifty souls came together, united by joy and fellowship, as we launched our new parish Mission Statement: “To be faithful like Mary.”It was not an ordinary hunger that stirred among us. It was a deeper kind; it was the hunger of hearts longing to know the truth that nourishes the soul. We desired to understand why the Blessed Virgin, whose name adorns our parish walls and whose fiat still echoes through the centuries, holds such a luminous place in the life of the Church.Together we journeyed back into the early dawn of Christianity, walking beside the voices of our ancestors in the faith, the saints and scholars who bore the torch of truth when the world was just starting to hear the Good News of the Gospel. We listened to St. Ignatius of Antioch, who once knew St. Peter himself—a single heartbeat away from the words of Christ. And in that closeness, that living chain of witness, we discovered what the earliest Christians knew beyond doubt: that the Church was, from the very beginning, deeply and thoroughly Catholic.During the time of questions, one of our newest parishioners, a convert from Protestantism, raised a tender yet courageous question. “Why,” she asked, “do so many non-Catholic Christians accuse us of worshiping Mary? When we pray the rosary or sing to her, they say we take away from Jesus.”Our speaker, Joshua Charles, himself a convert and a man whose intellect burns with zeal for truth, answered with great clarity. He explained that since the 16th century, much of Protestantism has turned away from the Holy Mass as a true sacrifice. To them, it became a mere symbol, a sacred reenactment but not the very reality of Calvary made present again.Here lies the key to so much misunderstanding. For Catholics, the highest form of worship is sacrifice—the self-offering of Jesus Christ to the Father upon the altar. It is in this divine act that all our praises, prayers, and devotions find their meaning and their end. But if one no longer sees worship as sacrifice, then song and prayer become the summit. Anything else, like love for Mary, can seem a rival to Christ rather than a reflection of Him.Yet Mary's glory is no rival to His. She magnifies the Lord. Her faithfulness is the clear mirror that catches the sunlight of her Son. To be faithful like Mary is to let that same light pass through us, so that others, too, might see Christ shining more clearly in the world.And so, our retreat was more than an event; it was a quiet awakening—a rediscovery of what it means to be Catholic, to be faithful, to be, like Mary, utterly surrendered to the will of God. --- Help Spread the Good News --- Father Brian's homilies are shared freely thanks to generous listeners like you.
