There is a story in the Old Testament,about a number of Israelites choosing to submit to the decree of King AntiochusEpiphanes to worship the gods of the Gentiles. For that reason, they built agymnasium in Jerusalem and many temples in the midst of their very religioustraditions. Buttheir actions were opposed by other fellow Jews who remained firm in theirfaith in the God of their ancestors. These believers could see God veryclearly. While those who chose to worship idols had their eyes closed so theywere not able to see and worship the true God. This is the content of our firstreading taken from the First Book of Maccabees. Thissituation is also described in the Gospel of today. People who were worldly intheir attitude wanted to prevent the meeting of the blind man with Jesus sothat he would not receive healing and sight. Meanwhile, the blind man hadfaith. He saw and called on the Lord. Our lives are also divided between thosewith the eyes of faith that enable them to see clearly and the eyes of theworld that are blurred and even blind, making them unable to see the mystery ofGod's glory. Thosewho are consistent and faithful in their faith are considered to have visionsof faith that are clear, real, and bright. This vision indeed builds a person'strust. These eyes of faith shape the life of a believer, so that even thoughthey are in difficult moments, troubles, and persecutions, it is this faiththat helps them endure in life. When they see and experience disaster, murder,hunger, sickness, and neglect, they will respond with an attitude formed byfaith. However,perhaps many of us have difficulty in seeing with the eyes of faith. Perhaps wewho hear this meditation are not the same as those who worship idols, or whohave renounced faith, or who are hostile toward believers. But it can be truethat in the midst of difficulties or suffering, both spiritual and physical,there are people who are unable to face them with an attitude of faith. Perhapspeople immediately think negatively, or see things only in physical, outward,or material terms. Consequently, their souls become fragile and easily losehope. But if their souls are strong, their faith firm, and their vision offaith clear, they will still rely on God in all aspects of their lives. So, theprayer that we ought to say is: O Lord, may I see You. Let's pray. In thename of the Father… O Father of all wisdom, may we be able to see with the eyesof faith all realities of life, especially the difficulties and sufferings weexperience. Sedangkan yang berbalikuntuk menyembah berhala sudah tertutup matanya untuk dapat melihat danmenyembah Tuhan Allah yang benar. Ini merupakan isi bacaan pertama kita yangdiambil dari kitab pertama Makabe.  Keadaan itu juga digambarkan di dalam Injil. Orang-orangyang sangat duniawi sifatnya ingin menghalangi pertemuan orang buta denganYesus supaya ia mendapatkan penyembuhan dan penglihatan. Sementara itu si butaitu punya iman. Ia melihat dan memanggil Tuhan. Kehidupan kita jugaterbagi-bagi antara mata iman yang jernih sehingga dapat melihat dengan jelasdan mata duniawi yang kabur bahkan buta, maka tidak dapat melihat rahasiakemuliaan Tuhan. Mereka yang konsisten dan setia dalam imannya dianggapmemiliki penglihatan iman yang jernih, nyata dan terang. Penglihatan inimenciptakan suatu keyakinan atau kepercayaan. Mata iman seperti ini membentukhidup seorang beriman, sehingga meskipun ia berada di dalam keadaan hidup yangsulit, terancam dan teraniaya, keyakinan imannya itulah yang mempertahankanhidupnya. Mereka melihat dan mengalami bencana, pembunuhan, kelaparan, penyakitdan keterlantaran, mereka akan menyikapi itu dengan suatu keyakinan iman yangmewarnai semua sikap hidupnya. Namun mungkin banyak di antara kita memiliki kesulitanuntuk melihat dengan memakai mata iman. Mungkin kita yang mendengar renunganini bukan termasuk orang-orang yang memuja berhala, atau yang meninggalkan imandan yang memusuhi orang-orang yang beriman. Tetapi bisa jadi, di tengahkesulitan atau penderitaan baik rohani maupun jasmani, ada orang yang tidaksanggup menghadapi itu dengan sikap imannya. Mungkin orang langsung berpikirnegatif, atau melihatnya hanya dari segi fisik, lahiriah, atau materi. Akibatnya,jiwa mereka menjadi rapuh dan mudah putus asa. Tetapi seandainya jiwanya kuat,keyakinan imannya teguh, penglihatan imannya jelas, mereka akan tetapmengandalkan Tuhan dalam seluruh sisi hidupnya. Maka doa yang pantas kitapanjatkan ialah: ya Tuhan, semoga aku dapat melihat. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Malachi 4: 19-20a; Rs psalm 98: 5-6.7-8.9a; 2 Thessalonians 3: 7-12; Luke 21: 5-19.THE CALLING TO ENDURE The title for ourmeditation today is: The Calling to Endure. There was a big fight going on in afamily. It started from a misunderstanding of husband and wife. Because eachdid not accept the other, one threatened the other to get out of the house. Thehusband prepared to get out of the house. But at the same time, the wife wasalso preparing to leave. All three children cried and tried their best to stoptheir parents' try to leave the house. They put all effort to prevent thisfrightening act they did not want to happen. The eldest son accompanied by histwo younger siblings stood at the door to prevent the father or mother fromleaving the house. Because of the strongefforts of the three children, the parents put off their desire to get out ofthe house. This happening in this family actually illustrates two importantthings that determine the fate of the family: escape from problems or endure toface and overcome them. The choice made indicates one's human quality and spiritualstrength. There are so manyproblems and difficulties we face in this life. Today's Gospel illustrates anumber of big, complicated and very frightening problems. These two choicesalways challenge us to choose which is the best. For the best option, JesusChrist commands us to choose to endure. He gives us a perfect example, namelyHimself who endured to the end of His life, during the moment on the cross asHe cried out before his last breath: "It's finished". The Lord Jesus indeedasks us to endure whatever the circumstances at any time. Our goal to endure isthat we may obtain salvation in the hands of God. There are several supporting elementsthat help us to endure. First is the promise of the coming of the Lord on theday according to God's will. If there is promise as the truth to hold on, thefact that the promise is made for us by the Lord himself as stated by the thebook of the Prophet Malachi, people certainly have reason to stay and toendure. Second, according to the responsorial psalms of today, the realizationof the promise is very important. Everyone is certain about his or her destiny,which is determined by the final judgment to decide on every human person'sworthiness  to enter the kingdom ofheaven. Third is the abilityto use the time during the periode of endurance. This ability refers to theattitudes a calmness, patience, and keep working to solve the problems we faceon earth. Maybe the problem is about many people around us who are jobless,insufficiency of people's basic needs and other real problems that humans faceat the present moment. In this period of endurance, we must be able to work forthe salvation of all souls that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised us and hasmandated us to do. To endure in emptiness is the same as foolishness. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O heavenly Father, may this Sunday celebration fill us with ability andenthusiasm to endure in this life. Ada pertengkaran besar sedang terjadi di dalam keluarga. Awalnya darisalah paham suami dan istri. Karena masing-masingnya tidak saling menerima,yang satu mengancam yang lainnya untuk keluar dari rumah. Suami bersiap untukkeluar dari rumah. Tetapi pada saat yang sama, istri juga bersiap untuk keluar.Anak-anak semuanya menangis dan melawan keinginan orang tua yang mau keluardari rumah. Mereka berusaha mencegahnya. Anak sulung ditemani dua adiknyaberdiri di pintu untuk menghalangi bapak atau ibunya pergi dari rumah. Karena begitu serunya usaha ketiga anak, akhirnya keduaorang tua mereka membatalkan keinginan keluar dari rumah. Kejadian di dalamkeluarga ini sebenarnya menggambarkan dua hal penting yang menjadi penentunasib keluarga tersebut: melarikan diri dari masalah atau bertahan untukmenghadapi dan mengatasinya. Pilihan yang diambil menunjukkan seperti apa kualitasmanusianya.  Ada begitu banyak masalah dan kesulitan yang kita hadapi.Injil pada hari ini justru menggambarkan sejumlah masalah besar, rumit dansangat menakutkan. Dua pilihan itu senantiasa menantang kita untuk dapatmemilih yang terbaik. Untuk yang terbaik, Yesus Kristus memerintahkan kitamemilih untuk bertahan. Ia sendiri sudah memberikan kita contoh, yaitu diri-Nyasendiri yang bertahan sampai akhir hidup-Nya, persis ketika di atas salib Iaberseru sebelum menghembuskan nafas terakhir: "Sudah selesai". Tuhan Yesus sungguh meminta kita untuk bertahan, apa punkeadaannya, kapan pun waktunya. Tujuan kita bertahan adalah supaya kitaselamat. Ada beberapa sarana pendukung yang membantu kita untuk bertahan.Pertama adalah janji akan datangnya hari Tuhan. Jika tidak ada suatu janjisebagai pegangan, apalagi yang menjanjikan ialah Tuhan sendiri seperti yangdiamanatkan oleh Nubuat Maleakhi, orang tidak memiliki alasan untuk bertahan.Kedua, menurut Mazmur tanggapan hari ini, perwujudan janji menjadi sangatpenting. Setiap orang menjadi pasti tentang nasibnya, yaitu ditentukan olehpengadilan terakhir apakah seseorang itu layak atau tidak layak masuk di dalamkerajaan surga. Ketiga ialah kemampuan mengisi waktu selama bertahandengan sikap tenang, penuh kesabaran, dan tetap bekerja bagi penyelesaianmasalah-masalah yang kita dihadapi. Mungkin masalah itu menyangkut pekerjaanyang tidak beres, kebutuhan dasar yang tidak cukup atau masalah kehidupanlainnya. Di dalam masa bertahan itu, kita mesti mampu bekerja demi tercapainyakeselamatan yang sudah dijanjikan Tuhan Yesus Kristus kepada kita. Bertahandalam kekosongan adalah sebuah kebodohan.Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... Wisdom 18: 14-16; 19: 6-9; Rs psalm 105: 2-3.36-37.42-43; Luke 18: 1-8.GOD ACTS QUICKLY ANDRIGHTLY The title for ourmeditation today is: God Acts Quickly and Rightly. A 6-year-old girl often accompaniedher mother to shop at the market. She notices that her mother always requestsfor discount to the things being bought. What a surprise! She asks for discountmore than half of the price. When the seller objects the discounted price, themother always says: "Sorry, we have nothing, we are very poor." On one occasion thegirl used her small savings to buy something at the shop nearby. She alsowanted to ask for dicount imitating what her mother usually does. Before sayingwhat she wanted to buy, she first said to the shop owner, "Sorry, we havenothing, we are very poor." Then she showed the item she was about to buy.The shop owner took the item and gave it to the little girl for free. In this life we seemeetings between the small and big ones, poor and rich, master and servants,powerful and powerless. The screams and cries of the poor or little ones alwaysattract attention. They shout either directly to certain people who immediatelygive attentions, or openly to the public and it's up to anyone who would payattention to them. Their screams and cries can only stop after their requestsare answered or attended. God has compassionfor these people. God acts quickly and becomes their savior at the right time.They are the people who do not have supporters, defenders and protectors. Theparable of the widow and her case to be solved by the lawyer in today's gospelpassage is an example of how the divine assistance comes at the very time manreally needs. In the scriptures there are many similar examples that show God'shelps come quickly and rightly. Many of us have everexpereinced God's helps comes quickly and rightly. Some people admit that theirprayers have not been answered. Therefore, they tend to view God is not yet intheir side. Some are patient enough to wait for an answer at the right time.Some have given up because they already waited for a long time, then theybecome passive and apathetic. Some even are emotionally driven by anger orhostile towards God because they are frustrated knowing no sign of the Lord'sfavor for them. It maybe true thatthe time is not yet right. Why? Because God is using our neighbors to be thehelpers. For sure, our immediate helps should come from there. The helpsactually come from God himself, who uses neighbors who are near to us. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord, we pray and we hope for the security and worthiness of our brothersand sisters who are so helpless and distress; may they find your favor andaccept all helps with gratitude. Ia perhatikan bahwaibunya selalu menawarkan barang-barang yang akan dibeli. Tidaktanggung-tanggung, tawaran potongan harga itu bisa lebih dari setengah hargapas. Ketika penjual keberatan dengan potongan harga, ibu itu selalu berkata:"Maaf, kami orang kecil, kami miskin sekali." Pada suatu ketika bocah itu memakai uang tabungannya untukmembeli sesuatu di toko. Ia juga ingin menawarkan barang dengan meniru apa yangbiasa dibuat ibunya. Sebelum mengatakan barang yang hendak dibeli, ia lebihdahulu berkata kepada pemilik toko, "Maaf, kami orang kecil, kami miskinsekali." Lalu ia menunjukkan barang yang hendak dibelinya. Pemilik tokoitu mengambil barang tersebut dan memberikan gratis kepada gadis ciliktersebut.  Di dalam hidup ini terjadi pertemuan biasa antara orangkecil dan besar, orang miskin dan kaya, tuan dan hamba. Teriakan dan tangisanorang kecil atau miskin selalu menarik perhatian. Mereka berteriak entahlangsung kepada orang-orang tertentu yang segera memberikan perhatian, entahsecara terbuka kepada publik dan terserah siapa saja yang akan memperhatikan.Teriakan mereka hanya dapat berhenti setelah permintaan mereka terpenuhi atauterjawab.  Tuhan memiliki belas kasih terhadap orang-orang ini. Tuhanbertindak cepat dan menjadi pembebas mereka pada saat yang pas dan tepat.Mereka itu ialah orang-orang yang tidak punya pendukung, pembela dan penopang.Perumpamaan tentang janda dan perkaranya yang ditangani oleh si pengacara dalamperumpamaan hari ini merupakan contohnya. Di dalam kitab suci banyak sekalicontoh-contoh sejenis, ketika Tuhan menolong pada waktu yang cepat dan tepat. Banyak di antara kita yang mendapat pertolongan Tuhandalam waktu yang cepat. Ada orang mengakui doa-doanya belum terkabulkan. Makaitu, mereka berpandangan kalau Tuhan belum berpihak pada mereka. Ada yang cukupsabar menantikan datangnya jawaban pada saat yang tepat. Ada yang sudahmenyerah karena mereka menunggu lama, lalu menjadi pasif dan apatis. Bahkan adayang pakai emosi sampai menjadi marah-marah kepada Tuhan.   Bisa jadi waktunya belum pas. Mengapa belum, karena Tuhansedang menggunakan sesama kita untuk membantu. Harus diakui, pertolongan yangpaling dekat mestinya datang dari situ, karena sebenarnya pertolongan itu dariTuhan sendiri, yang memakai orang-orang di sekitar untuk melakukannya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... ya Tuhan, kamimenaruh harapan untuk kelayakan hidup saudara dan saudari kami yang sangatberkekurangan dan tak berdaya lagi; semoga mereka mendapatkan pertolongandari-Mu. Wisdom 13: 1-9; Rs psalm 19: 2-3.4-5; Luke 17: 26-37.THE END OF TIME CALLING Our meditation today isentitled: The End of Time Calling. A mother advised her two children who arestill in elementary school and who are lazy to pray, that they may regain theirexcitement to pray. They asked, "What's the point of praying always andnot become lazy to pray?" The mother said that now we might not have itsuse, but later at the end of time it will be very useful. The two children areagain eager to pray. The reason they always remember certainly there is the endof time, even though they do not understand anything about the end of time. The end of timeaccording to our faith is a reality that will happen later, when one departsfrom this world. We can not think and explain it only with reason, but mustalso with faith. The end of time assures that in this reality we willexperience the true God as He is, whom we always call his name while we stillin this world. For this reason, the book of Wisdom of today's first readingconfirms our encounter at the end of time with our God, the Creator and Rulerof all, who is the Lord of all beauty, power and goodness. The scripturesexplain the end of time calling through the teachings of Jesus Christ and thevision of the saints. These teachings and testimonies are manifested indifferent forms of explanation. It is our duty to understand them correctly inorder to believe correctly too. If we heed this call very well, we understandit all about and we believe in it while we still in this world, then our hopeto encounter the end of time is always something we expect without doubt. Today we are taughtthat the end of time contains two main things, namely the second coming ofJesus Christ and the life of the hereafter. The following are a number of signsof the end of time according to the scriptures: 1) it comes at an unexpectedtime, 2) when we go through our daily lives as usual, 3) a sudden coming, 4)after a cruel persecution of the Church, 5) after a terrible earthquake,plague, famine in various places and in the sky there are great signs ofnature, 6) after a mass apostasy, 7) after the power of the Antichrist isdestroyed, 8) when love for the oppressed and sufferings becomes cold, 9) whenthe gospel already preached to all corners of the world, 10) when all Israelsare saved, 11) when this Church becomes holy and without defects, withoutstains and scratches of any form. There have been manypredictions of the end of time to happen, but until this moment it has not yethappened. What for us certain is this: we will prepare ourselves, and if themoment our own death comes, it is the end of every one's time. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Kebijaksanaan 13: 1-9; Mazmur tg 19: 2-3.4-5; Lukas 17: 26-37.PANGGILAN AKHIRZAMAN Renungan kita pada hari ini bertema: Panggilan AkhirZaman. Seorang ibu menasihatkan kedua anaknya yang masih sd yang sudah malasberdoa, supaya kembali bersemangat. Mereka bertanya, "Apa gunanya berdoadan tidak boleh malas?" Sang ibu berkata bahwa sekarang mungkin kita belummendapatkan kegunaannya, namun nanti pada akhir zaman akan sangat bermanfaat.Kedua anak itu kembali bersemangat berdoa, dan alasan yang mereka ingat ialahakhir zaman, meskipun mereka tidak mengerti apa-apa tentang akhir zaman.  Akhir zaman merupakan sesuatu realitas iman yang baru akanterjadi nanti. Kita tidak bisa berpikir hanya dengan akal budi, tapi harus jugadengan iman. Akhir zaman menjamin bahwa realitas yang akan kita alamimemperlihatkan Tuhan Allah yang sesungguhnya, yang selalu kita sebut namanya didunia ini. Oleh karena itu kitab Kebijaksanaan dalam bacaan pertama membenarkankalau yang kita jumpai nanti ialah Penguasa dan Pembentuk segalanya, yangmenjadi Tuhan atas segala keindahan, kekuasaan dan kebaikan. Kitab suci menjelaskan tentang akhir zaman melalui ajaranYesus Kristus dan penglihatan orang-orang kudus. Ajaran dan kesaksian inidisampaikan dalam bentuk penjelasan yang berbeda-beda. Kita yang perlumemahaminya secara benar agar dapat mengimaninya secara benar pula. Jika kitamemiliki perhitungan tentangnya, mengetahui gambarannya seperti apa danmengimaninya selagi masih di dunia, maka harapan kita untuk menyongsong akhirzaman menjadi sesuatu yang menggembirakan. Pada hari ini kita diajarkan bahwa akhir zaman itu berisidua hal utama, yaitu kedatangan Yesus kembali dan dunia ini akan mengalamiakhirat. Berikut ini adalah sejumlah ciri atau tandanya menurut kitab suci: 1)ia datang pada saat yang tidak kita duga, 2) pada saat orang-orang dunia inimenjalani hidup seperti biasanya, 3) datangnya tiba-tiba, 4) setelah suatupenganiayaan Gereja yang terparah, 5) setelah adanya gempa bumi dahsyat, wabahpenyakit, kelaparan di berbagai tempat dan di langit tampak tanda-tanda alamyang menggemparkan, 6) setelah terjadi pemurtadan secara masal, 7) setelahkekuatan Antikristus dibinasakan, 8) ketika kasih kepada mereka yang sangatmembutuhkan menjadi dingin, 9) ketika Injil telah diwartakan sampai ke segenappelosok dunia, 10) ketika segenap Israel dapat diselamatkan, 11) ketika Gerejaini menjadi kudus dan tak bercela, tanpa noda dan goresan apa pun bentuknya. Sudah sekian banyak prediksi terjadinya akhir zaman itu,namun sampai detik ini belum sampai terjadi. Yang pasti ialah ini: kita akanmempersiapkan diri, dan jika kematian diri kita sendiri datang itu adalah akhirzaman setiap orang. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Jesus Christ said this to thePharisees. Although there are no more Pharisees today, the pharisaic spirit isalive. A mother always corrects her children in this manner: "Don't becomehypocritical like the Pharisees." A life that is not sincere and full oflies is a life of the pharisaic spirit. So, following the reminder of themother, the children always remember that the pharisaic attitude isactually  bad and sinfull. The Pharisees wereasking for a sign of the coming of the Kingdom of God. They wanted a kingdomcomplete with its location dan political system. They were looking for thepower of the world. But Jesus is against this way of thinking. Today we shouldsay that the pharisaic attitude can be seen in those who look for miracles.They actually do not know that even from waking up in the morning until themoment to go to sleep at night is already a significant miracle. Today many peopletend to use the hyperbole style, a way of exaggeration. The quantity of peopleor things can be exaggerated according to one's own interest. The quality ofsomeone or something can also be given exaggeration. For instance someone washeard teling his friend in this way "I can read all your thoughts andfeelings before you express them yourself." People of today prefer moneyto be the first standard to engage work, service and cooperation. If withoutmoney, people don't want to work,  to sacrifice,to serve, even to associate and  to pray.We can mention many more things like this. All of them have onecommon characteristic, namely blindness and deafess both physically andmentally about the presence of God in our midst and within us. The God who ispresent now and here, actually speaks from each one's conscience. The Lord'ssilent presence is a wisdom that affects a person's life from within. Thatpresence is primarily in the form of His powerful words, cannot be held andseen, but as the spirit that comforts, encourages and strengthens us. The Lord Jesusreplaces His own presence with the Holy Spirit who is wise and holy, easy tomove, clear, immaculate, bright, sharp and generous, as said in the book ofWisdom of the today's first reading. In other words, that presence is actuallythe power of our God manifested in commandments, inspiration, values, wisdom,morality and virtues. All is united in the making up of a truly spiritual unityof the Kingdom of God. This Kingdom governs all with the power of God. We are taught byJesus His own prayer for the coming of the kingdom. This kingdom is useful andmeaningful to us only when it takes control all our lives in the world, that wemay not be let to be driven away by all other powers of the world. With regardsto our future, the Kingdom of God is the representation of eternal life that isachieved by everyone of us after our death. There will be the resurrection forall the righteous. We need to celebrate the presence of this Kingdom every day. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Yesus Kristus mengatakan ini kepada orang-orang Farisi. Meskitidak ada lagi kaum Farisi saat ini, tapi semangatnya masih ada. Seorang ibumengoreksi anak-anaknya dengan berkata begini: "Jangan seperti orangFarisi yang suka munafik". Intinya, hidup yang tidak tulus dan penuhkecurangan adalah semangat hidup Farisi. Jadi, anak-anak selalu mengingat bahwacara-cara farisi itu sebenarnya tidak baik. Salah satu contohnya ialah mereka meminta tanda datangnyaKerajaan Allah yang lahiriah, artinya ada sebuah wilayah dengan sistemkekuasaan yang maha besar. Yesus melawan cara berpikir seperti ini. Sekarangsikap-sikap farisi itu ada pada mereka yang suka minta terjadinya mujisat yangcepat, padahal hidup dari bangun pagi hingga tidur pada malam hari sudahsebagai mujizat.  Sekarang banyak orang suka bergaya hiperbola, yaitumengada-ada dan melebih-lebihkan. Jumlah banyaknya entah manusia atau barang,lalu kualitas mampu, sanggup atau unggul bisa ditambah-tambah seenaknya.Sekarang orang ingin supaya uang sebagai perhitungan pertama, jika tidak,mereka tidak ingin bekerja, berkorban, melayani dan bahkan bersosial danberdoa.  Daftar ini masih akan sangat panjang, dan semua itu punyasatu ciri yang sama, yaitu buta dan tuli baik fisik maupun mental akankehadiran Tuhan di tengah-tengah kita, dan di dalam diri kita. Tuhan yang hadirini sebenarnya berbicara dari nurani kita masing-masing. Ini adalahkebijaksanaan yang berwujud sangat halus sehingga mampu masuk ke pikiran danhati kita yang paling dalam. Kehadiran itu sebagai firman-Nya yang jelas takdapat dipegang dan dilihat, tetapi sebagai roh yang menghibur, menyemangati danmenguatkan diri kita.  Kehadiran itu ialah roh yang arif dan kudus, mudahbergerak, jernih, tidak bernoda, terang, tajam dan murah hati, demikian katakitab Kebijaksanaan pada hari ini. Singkatnya, kehadiran itu merupakanpenjelmaan Tuhan dalam perintah, inspirasi, nilai, kearifan, moralitas dankeutamaan. Semuanya menyatu untuk membentuk suatu wujud kerajaan Allah yangbenar-benar rohani dan keberadaannya dapat menembus segala batas fisik-lahiriahkehidupan ini.  Kita diajarkan oleh Yesus dalam doa-Nya untuk kedatangankerajaan itu. Adanya kerajaan itu untuk menguasai hidup kita di dunia sebab adabegitu banyak pengaruh kekuasaan duniawi yang berusaha menguasai kita. Untukmasa depan, kerajaan Allah merupakan kehidupan kekal yang akan dicapai olehkita masing-masing melalui kematian. Di situ ada kebangkitan bagi semuaorang-orang benar. Kita perlu merayakan kehadiran kerajaan Allah itu setiaphari. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Wisdom 6: 1-11; Rs psalm 82: 3-4.6-7; Luke 17: 11-19.THE FULLNESS OFHEALING Our meditation today isentitled: The Fullness of Healing. Two best friends had to face the sad realityof breaking up their friendship. The reason is that one of them has borrowedthe other's money and promised to return it, in fact he did not. He borrowedmore than three times, and he never returned them. Through family ways ofapproach and reconciliation, finally all the debts were paid off. But becausethe relationship was already wounded by the conflict, they no longer acceptedeach other. Friendship became cold and dying. If after paying offthe debts, they could understand each other, accepted each other and sincerelyacknowledged each other, then their friendship would get a full recovery.Wounds that have occurred between the two can heal completely. But it was notso. The aspect of accepting and acknowledging each other after a solution orrecovery to an existing problem are fundamental. Jesus is actually teaching usthree dimensions of healing to achieve its fullness. The first dimensionis healing of wounds. The today's Gospel shows that leprosy is gone and eachone is clean. From the example of the two best friends' story, at the time thedebt was paid off, there was healing for the wounds of both. We experience a lotof wound healing in life, and that releases our burdens. Wounds or diseases ofthe body are successfully removed. We are forgiven by others, or the same as weforgive others, also included in this category of healing. The second dimensionis a social healing and unity among brothers, sisters and friends. Jesus made ahealing miracle that united two groups of people who were basically hostile toeach other, the Jews and the Samaritans. Jesus also asked them to reportthemselves to the priest, so that they could be re-accepted as members of thecommunity and society. This healing greatly strengthens one's self-esteem aspart of one's neighbor, environment, and culture. The third dimensionis the faith healing. Not many people are aware of this healing diemension,because they forget to give thanks, glorify God, and offer up their lives to beused by God. It aims to strengthen their faith and remain humble in relying theirlives on God. Because it can happen, after being healed from wounds and havinghappiness in the midst of brothers and friends, one may become arrogant andforget God. He might think it's not important to be grateful. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Father of mercy, fill us with Your mercy and love so that we may continueto proclaim Your gospel of joy and be open to accept our fellow men. Sebabnya ialah salah satunya telah meminjam uang temannya dan berjanjiuntuk mengembalikan, ternyata tidak ia lakukan. Lebih dari tiga kali iameminjam, dan tidak pernah ia kembalikan. Melalui cara kekeluargaan, akhirnyasegala utang dilunasi. Namun karena hubungan itu sudah terlanjur luka olehkonflik, mereka tidak lagi saling menerima. Pertemanan itu menjadi dingin dankaku. Sekiranya setelah pelunasan utang tersebut, mereka dapatsaling mengerti, saling menerima dan tulus mengakui satu sama lain, makapertemanan mereka mendapatkan pemulihan yang utuh. Luka yang sudah terjadi diantara keduanya dapat sembuh total. Namun tidak demikian. Faktor tindakanmenerima dan mengakui satu sama lain setelah penyelesaian atau solusi terhadapmasalah yang ada, merupakan hal yang sangat mendasar. Yesus sebenarnya sedangmengajarkan kita tiga dimensi kesembuhan untuk mencapai kepenuhannya. Dimensi pertama ialah penyembuhan luka. Penyakit kustahilang dan masing-masingnya telah bersih. Dari contoh kisah dua sahabat tadi,pada waktu pelunasan utang dilaksanakan, di situ terjadilah kesembuhan atasluka-lukanya. Kita mengalami banyak kesembuhan luka di dalam hidup, dan hal itumelepaskan beban hidup kita. Luka atau penyakit pada tubuh berhasildihilangkan. Kita dimaafkan oleh orang lain, atau sebaliknya kita memaafkansesama, juga termasuk di dalam tahap penyembuhan kategori ini. Dimensi kedua ialah suatu tahap penyembuhan sosial danpersekutuan sebagai saudara atau sesama teman. Yesus membuat mujisatpenyembuhan yang menyatukan dua golongan orang yang pada dasarnya salingbermusuhan, Yahudi dan Samaria. Yesus juga meminta mereka supaya melaporkandirinya ke imam, supaya mereka dapat diterima kembali sebagai anggota komunitasdan masyarakat. Kesembuhan ini sangat memperkuat harga diri seseorang sebagaibagian dari sesama, lingkungan, dan kebudayaannya.  Dimensi ketiga ialah tahap penyembuhan iman. Tidak banyakorang sadar untuk melakukan tindakan penyembuhan ini, yaitu karena mereka lupauntuk bersyukur, memuliakan Tuhan, dan menyerahkan hidupnya untuk dipakai olehTuhan. Ini bertujuan supaya imam mereka kuat dan tetap rendah hati mengandalkanTuhan di dalam hidupnya. Sebab bisa saja terjadi, setelah orang menjadi sembuhlukanya dan senang secara sosial, ternyata ia menjadi sombong dan lupa akanTuhan. Ia sudah tidak menganggap penting berterima kasih. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... This sentenceis taken from the book of Wisdom which is the first reading of today's liturgy.An elementary school boy has a story that is appropriate to reflection of this versefrom the Scriptures . He is smart and always the number one bright in theclass. He behaves so well that wins the praise of his teachers. He is alwaysmade a model for his friends. However, he often becomes the target of bullies,ridicule and slander. He often cries and refuses to play with his friends. Theschool and his parents try hard to overcome this problem. The most common reactionmade when people face problems like that of the school boy is to complain andhand it over to God. Let God alone give His justice. This is done with certainjustification that goes like this: the righteous ones are in God's hands. Goddoes not forget the righteous people. Maybe you yourself often experience suchtreatment. Your life is good, doing the right thing, following procedure, andnever bothering others, but it turns out that you are blamed and slandered. Our principle offaith explains that the wickedness of the world tends to torment the righteous,it's simply a reality of life that we must go through. Who are the righteousones? It could be you, your brothers and sisters, or we as the flock the oneholy Church. To our endurance and perseverance with so much freedom andwillingness to follow Christ until now, it is no exaggeration and it's no wrongfor us to make a recognition to ourselves, to our brothers and sisters and ourfamilies: that we are indeed in the hands of God. There are many signsthat reveal one's true witness of faith. For example, people carry out workaccording to their duties and responsibilities, doing activities in proper timeand place, following procedures and rule of law, giving information based onfacts or evidences, taking responsibility to fulfill commitments, admitingmistakes and willingness to correct them, ready to take risks for improvement.And much more. Today the Lord Jesusgives us a lesson on how to live out the truth. We carry out our duties andresponsibilities to the best of our capacity and trust given, and withhumility. Don't assume that we are great or successful. It is humility thatguides us to say: we are just useless servants, because we only do what isrequired. More than that, humility will motivate us to do more than just anobligation or that is required from us. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Ia pintar, selalu juara di kelas, dan bersikap baiksehingga dipuji guru-gurunya. Ia selalu dijadikan model bagi teman-temannya.Tetapi ia selalu saja menjadi sasaran bully, cemoohan dan fitnah. Maka iasering menangis dan takut bermain bersama teman-temannya. Sekolah dan orangtuannya berusaha keras untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini. Sikap yang paling umum diambil ketika orang menghadapimasalah seperti anak SD itu ialah mengadu dan menyerahkannya saja kepada Tuhan.Biar Tuhan saja yang memberikan keadilan-Nya. Ini dilakukan dengan pembenarandiri begini: orang benar ada di tangan Tuhan. Tuhan tidak melupakan orang yangbenar. Mungkin Anda sendiri sering mengalami seperti itu. Hidupmu baik, berbuatbenar, mengikuti prosedur, dan tidak pernah menyusahkan orang lain, tetapiternyata dirimulah yang disalahkan dan difitnah macam-macam. Prinsip iman kita menjelaskan bahwa perlakukan kefasikandunia yang menghukum orang-orang benar itu hanyalah sebuah tahap yang harusdilewati. Siapakah orang-orang benar itu? Bisa saja Anda, saudara-saudarimu,atau kita sebagai satu kawanan dalam penggembalaan Gereja kita yang kudus.Sudah sekian lama dan sekian besar kerelaan kita mengikuti Kristus sampai kini,tidak berlebihan dan tidak salah jika kita membuat pengakuan ini atas diri kitasendiri, saudara-saudari dan keluarga kita. Kita memang berada di tangan Tuhan. Ada banyak tanda yang mengungkapkan diri seseorang itubenar. Misalnya orang menjalankan pekerjaan sesuai tugas dan tanggung jawabnya,hadir dan berkegiatan pada waktu dan tempat yang sesungguhnya, mengikutiprosedur dan tata caranya, mengatakan dan memberikan keterangan sesuai faktabeserta bukti-buktinya, mempertanggung-jawabkan komitmen, mengakui kesalahandan kemauan untuk memperbaikinya, mengoreksi kesalahan dan berani mengambilresiko atas sebuah perbaikan. Dan masih banyak lagi. Tuhan Yesus memberikan satu pengajaran hidup dalamkebenaran pada hari ini. Kita menjalankan tugas dan tanggung jawab dengansebaik-baiknya sesuai kewenangan dan kepercayaan kepada kita, dan dengan sikaprendah hati. Jangan ada anggapan bahwa kita hebat atau sukses. Kerendahan hatiitu mengantar kita untuk berkata: kita ini hanya hamba yang tak berguna, karenahanya melakukan yang diwajibkan. Lebih dari itu, kerendahan hati akanmemotivasi kita untuk berbuat lebih dari sekedar kewajiban atau yang diharuskan.Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Wisdom 1: 1-7; Rs psalm 139: 1-3.4-6.7-8.9-10; Luke 17: 1-6.DON'T BECOME ASCANDAL The theme of ourmeditation today is: Don't Become a Scandal. A parish priest shared that on oneoccasion he was involved in a misunderstanding with the staff and severalfamilies in the parish he served. The misunderstanding escalated into anuncontrolled argument, causing most of the faithful to become inflamed andangry. However, the parish priest did not appear to become emotional or angry.He remained calm and controlled. He kept his words as gentle as possible anddid not offend any body. He had to continue treating them as his people whoneeded to be listened to, understood, and loved. If the Priest alsogot emotional and angry, then treated his parishioners with violence, then ofcourse he would become a scandal for them and also the entire members of theParish. The word "scandal" in Greek is scandalon. Its meaning is atrap or stumbling block that causes others to be trapped and fall. Thescriptures explicitly warn us about scandals or tricks that keep people fromtheir Lord and bring them into sin. Psalm 141.9 says: Free me from the trapthey have put to trap me, and from the deception of the wicked. Similar tothis, the first letter of John says: Whoever loves his brother or sister livesin the light, in that person there is no stumbling block. Our big challenge asthe followers of Christ is: don't become a scandal. Jesus says in the Gospel oftoday that we must not cause one of the weakest among us to fall into sin.Those who are classified as the weakest among us are the little ones, sick, childrenand young people, poor, abandoned and those who are not taken into account.Their lives have been difficult physically, mentally and spiritually, so theyshould not be made more difficult in life. Those that cause them difficult andso deprived are those who have power, the smart ones, rich, those who havepositions and influences. If you feel yourself part of these categories, try toavoid being a scandal for the weakest ones. One good suggestionhere is this: we should not show bad or negative examples, which may bringothers to sin. Priests and religious persons can become scandalous because ofdirty talks they utter in front of the people. Parents become scandalousbecause of fighting between them and seen their own children. The teacher islazy in the midst of his students. The big brother steals something andwitnessed by his younger brother. And, there are many more examples that areoften done intentionally by those who are not supposed to do those acts. Let us learn to avoidscandalous acts by showing good and right examples. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Father almighty, may we open ourselves sincerely to Your Spirit, so thatwe are always renewed and purified, then come to renew the world from all formsof scandal. Ada seorang Pastor Paroki bercerita bahwa dalam suatu kesempatan diaterlibat salah paham dengan para pelayan pastoran dan beberapa keluarga diParoki yang ia layani. Salah paham itu berkembang menjadi sebuah pertengakaranyang tidak biasa terkontrol sehingga sebagian besar umat terbakar emosinya danmereka marah-marah. Namun Pastor Paroki tidak terlihat ikut emosi dan marah. Iatetap tenang dan dapat menguasai dirinya. Sedapat mungkin ia menjagakata-katanya yang tetap lembut dan tidak menyinggung perasaan mereka. Ia harustetap memperlakukan mereka sebagai umatnya yang perlu didengarkan, dimengertidan disayangi.     Kalau Pastor Paroki ikut terbakar emosi, marah danbertindak keras kepada umatnya, maka ia tentu saja menjadi skandal bagi merekadan semua umat di parokinya. Kata "skandal" dalam bahasa Yunani ialahscandalon. Artinya ialah perangkap atau batu sandungan yang menyebabkan oranglain terperangkap dan jatuh. Kitab suci dengan tegas memperingatkan kitatentang skandal atau tipu daya yang menjauhkan umat dari Tuhannya danmenjatuhkan mereka ke dalam dosa. Mazmur 141,9 berkata: Bebaskan aku dariperangkap yang telah mereka taruh untuk memerangkap aku, dan dari tipu dayaorang jahat. Mirip dengan ini, Surat Yohanes yang pertama berkata: Barang siapamengasihi saudara atau saudarinya hidup di dalam terang, pada orang tersebuttak ada batu sandungan. Tantangan besar kita pengikut Kristus ialah: janganmenjadi skandal. Yesus berkata dalam Injil bahwa kita tidak boleh menyebabkansalah seorang dari kaum lemah di antara kita jatuh ke dalam dosa. Mereka yangtergolong lemah ialah orang sederhana, sakit, anak-anak dan orang muda, miskin,tidak punya pengaruh atau yang tak diperhitungkan. Hidup mereka sudah susahbaik fisik, mental dan rohani, maka tak boleh dibuat tambah susah. Pihak yangmembuat mereka susah dan berbuat skandal ialah yang punya kuasa, pintar,pandai, punya jabatan atau kedudukan, berpunya dan punya pengaruh. Jika Andamerasa menjadi bagian dari kategori ini, usahakan untuk hindari skandal itu. Satu usulan baik di sini ialah: kiranya kita tidak menjaditeladan yang buruk atau jahat, yang membawa orang lain jatuh dalam dosa. Imamatau biarawan buat skandal karena misalnya omong kotor di hadapan umat. Orangtua menjadi skandal karena berkelahi dan dilihat sendiri anak-anaknya. Gurubergaya malas di tengah murid-muridnya. Kakak mencuri sambil dilihat langsungadik-adiknya. Dan, masih banyak lagi contoh yang sering dilakukan dengansengaja. Marilah kita belajar menghindari tindakan-tindakan skandaldengan memberikan teladan yang baik dan benar. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa maha kuasa,semoga kami membuka diri secara tulus akan Roh-Mu, supaya kami dibaharui selaludan seterusnya kami ikut membaharui dunia ini dari segala bentuk skandal. Until now the basilica was thecathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. Just like otherimportant basilicas, the Lateran basilica looks so majestic and alwayswell-maintained and organized. One aspect of carethat is so particular should be on cleanliness. Even though this is an oldbuilding, cleanliness is so well observed. The visitors who always come everyday will feel comfortable and can enjoy the values ​​of Christian sacredness init. Actually not only aspects of cleanliness, but also orderliness, politenessand calmness. Visitors who are not modestly dressed will be put on a scarf, thenoisy will be reprimanded, those who use cell phones will be asked to turn off,and those who bring food will be asked to leave food outside the basilica. Our churches that aredirty can be seen from various aspects of perspective. Dirts like paper,plastic, dust, etc. can be found there, outside and inside. People who comethere with different type of clothes and the use of supporting instruments, canoften disturb the worship that is going on. Behaviors such as sharing stories,talking, cellular ringing, joking, fighting and violence can also happen there.Then the hearts, minds and souls of the believers can be also in the state ofdirty, because of sins that have not been forgiven, the type of spiritualimpurities that exsist in the believers. The house of God iscertainly not beautiful, comfortable, dignified, and holy if all types of dirtare always brought into it. Jesus sees all kinds of dirt there, inside andoutside the temple. He is burned by the demand to clean the house of worshipfrom all kinds of dirts, to be removed away, and He does His way with anger andpunishment. We, as His followers, are certainly burnt by the same demands whenwe know that our houses of worship are full with dirts as ellaborated above. Jesus also teaches usthat the house of worship is actually He himself. Likewise theologically, wewant to interpret the house of worship as ourselves, as today's second readingstates. Faced with all forms of desacralization whether by words or deeds, causingour bodies not worthy for God, for others or community and ourselves, we mustbe firm and burnt by the the demand to overcome those negative threats. Let's pray. Pada hari ini, seluruh Gereja memperingati pemberkatan GerejaBasilik Lateran Roma. Basilika ini termasuk satu dari empat gereja terbesar dikota Roma, Italia. Sampai saat ini basilika itu merupakan katedralnya UskupRoma, yaitu Paus Leo ke-14. Sama seperti basilika-basilika penting lainnya,basilik Lateran tampak begitu megah dan selalu terawat dengan baik dan teratur. Salah satu aspek perawatan yang sangat diperhatikan ialahkebersihan. Meskipun ini adalah bangunan tua, kebersihannya tetap terjaga. Parapengunjung yang selalu berdatangan tiap hari akan merasa nyaman dan dapatmenikmati nilai-nilai kesakralan kristiani di dalamnya. Sebenarnya tidak hanyaaspek kebersihan, tetapi juga ketertiban, kesopanan dan ketenangan. Turis yangtidak sopan berpakaian akan dipakaikan syal, yang ribut akan ditegur, yangmemakai ponsel akan diminta untuk dimatikan, dan yang membawa makanan akandiminta untuk meninggalkan makanan di luar basilika. Rumah ibadat kita dipandang kotor dari berbagai aspekpenilaian. Kotoran itu seperti kertas, plastik, debu dan lain sebagainya bisasaja ditemukan di sana. Penampilan pakaian dan pemakaian instrumen pendukungyang tidak pas dalam ibadah sering terjadi. Tingkah laku seperti bercerita,dering seluler, bercanda, bertengkar dan tindak kekerasan terjadi juga.Kemudian hati, pikiran dan jiwa para partisipan ibadat yang dianggap kotorkarena dosa-dosa yang belum diampuni, merupakan jenis kotoran spiritual yangtidak asing bagi orang-orang beriman. Rumah Tuhan tentu tidak dapat dikatakan indah, nyaman danbermartabat suci kalau semua jenis kotoran ini selalu tertampung di sana. Yesusmelihat semua kotoran itu ada di sana, dalam dan luar bait suci. Ia terbakaroleh tuntutan untuk mensterilkan rumah ibadah dari segala macam kotoran untukdisingkirkan sehingga keluarlah amarah-Nya. Kita sebagai pengikut-Nya jugatentu ikut terbakar oleh tuntutan yang sama ketika tahu kalau rumah-rumahibadah kita penuh dengan kotoran seperti yang disebutkan itu. Yesus bermaksud juga mengartikan rumah ibadah itu sebagaidiri-Nya sendiri. Demikian juga secara teologis, kita ingin mengartikan rumahibadah itu adalah diri kita sendiri seperti dikatakan dalam bacaan kedua hariini. Berhadapan dengan segala bentuk desakralisasi entah dengan kata-kata entahdengan perbuatan, sehingga tubuh kita menjadi tidak layak bagi Tuhan, bagisesama atau komunitas dan bagi diri sendiri, kita mesti bersikap tegas danterbakar tuntutan untuk menyingkirkan tendensi atau ancaman-ancaman itu. Marilah kita berdoa. Romans 16: 3-9.16.22-27; Rs psalm 145: 2-3.4-5.10-11; Luke 16: 9-15.IT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE TO SERVE TWO MASTERS Our meditation today is entitled: It is notpermissible to serve two masters. There is a simple employee named Luke whoworks honestly every day even though his salary is not big. He refuses toaccept small bribes that could increase his income, because he wants to live inGod's providence. At first he was seen as stupid by his colleagues, but after afew years, his honesty earned him trust to lead a major project. Luke not onlyreceived a promotion, but was also respected for his integrity. Faithfulness insmall things brings great blessings, like God's own promises. Jesus says in the Gospel of Luke that no one can servetwo masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will beloyal to the one and ignore the other. "You cannot serve God andMammon" (Lk 16:13).  This expression rebukes people who often want to holdtwo things at once: serve God, but still maintain attachment to wealth,comfort, or ego. Jesus reminds that the direction of the human heart can onlylead to one center of love. If God is the center, then all life will bedirected to glorify Him. But if Mammon — the symbol of greed and worldly power— takes center stage, then life loses its spiritual light and meaning. Serving God means making His will the basis of everychoice, even in seemingly minor matters. Jesus affirms, "Whoever isfaithful in small things is faithful also in great." True loyalty does notwait for a great opportunity, but is proven through sincerity in simplematters: honesty in work, patience in the face of difficult people, andgenerosity towards others. God doesn't see how much work we produce, but ratherhow much love moves that action. Saint Paul also gave an example of this. In hisletters, he often expressed his gratitude to those who faithfully served himduring his Gospel preaching journey. They not only helped materially, but alsoprovided faithfulness, prayer, and support when Paul was suffering. Theirfaithfulness shows that service is not just a task, but a form of love that isconstantly given, even when no one is watching.  True faithfulness and dedication require a cleardecision: choosing God as the only source of life. The world may offer a lot ofinteresting things—power, money, and popularity—but all of that passes quickly.On the contrary, faithfulness to God produces inner peace and joy that cannotbe bought. A person who serves the Lord lives in the belief that every blessingand trial is part of His plan of love. Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... Ada seorang pegawai sederhana bernama Lukas yang setiaphari bekerja dengan jujur meski gajinya tidak besar. Ia menolak menerima suapkecil   yang bisa menambahpenghasilannya, karena ia ingin hidup berkenan kepada Tuhan. Awalnya iadipandang bodoh oleh rekan-rekannya, tetapi setelah beberapa tahun,kejujurannya membuatnya dipercaya untuk memimpin proyek besar. Lukas tidakhanya menerima promosi, tetapi juga dihormati karena integritasnya. Kesetiaandalam hal kecil membawa berkat yang besar, seperti janji Tuhan sendiri. Yesus berkata dalam Injil Lukas bahwa tidak seorang pundapat mengabdi kepada dua tuan, sebab ia akan membenci yang satu dan mengasihiyang lain, atau ia akan setia kepada yang satu dan tidak mengindahkan yanglain. “Kamu tidak dapat mengabdi kepada Allah dan kepada Mamon” (Luk 16:13).  Sabda ini menegur manusia yang sering ingin memegangdua hal sekaligus: mengabdi kepada Tuhan, namun tetap mempertahankanketerikatan pada harta, kenyamanan, atau ego. Yesus mengingatkan bahwa arahhati manusia hanya bisa menuju satu pusat kasih. Bila Allah menjadi pusatnya,maka seluruh hidup akan diarahkan untuk memuliakan-Nya. Tetapi bila Mamon —simbol dari keserakahan dan kuasa duniawi — menjadi pusatnya, maka hidup ituakan kehilangan terang dan makna rohani. Mengabdi kepada Allah berarti menjadikan kehendak-Nyasebagai dasar setiap pilihan, bahkan dalam hal-hal yang tampak kecil. Yesusmenegaskan, “Barangsiapa setia dalam perkara-perkara kecil, ia setia juga dalamperkara-perkara besar.” Kesetiaan yang sejati tidak menunggu kesempatan besar,tetapi dibuktikan melalui ketulusan dalam hal sederhana: kejujuran dalampekerjaan, kesabaran menghadapi orang sulit, dan kemurahan hati terhadapsesama. Tuhan tidak melihat seberapa besar karya yang kita hasilkan, melainkanseberapa besar kasih yang menggerakkan tindakan itu. Santo Paulus pun mencontohkan hal ini. Dalamsurat-suratnya, ia sering menyampaikan rasa syukur kepada orang-orang yangsetia melayaninya selama perjalanan pewartaan Injil. Mereka bukan hanyamembantu secara materi, tetapi juga memberikan kesetiaan, doa, dan dukungan disaat Paulus mengalami penderitaan. Kesetiaan mereka menunjukkan bahwa pelayananbukan sekadar tugas, melainkan bentuk kasih yang terus-menerus diberikan,bahkan ketika tidak dilihat orang.  Kesetiaan dan pengabdian sejati membutuhkan keputusanyang jelas: memilih Tuhan sebagai satu-satunya sumber hidup. Dunia mungkinmenawarkan banyak hal menarik — kekuasaan, uang, dan popularitas — namun semuaitu cepat berlalu. Sebaliknya, kesetiaan kepada Tuhan menghasilkan kedamaianbatin dan sukacita yang tak bisa dibeli. Orang yang mengabdi kepada Tuhan hidupdalam kepercayaan bahwa setiap berkat dan ujian adalah bagian dari rencanakasih-Nya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... In a village settlement, the roadto the primary school is always flooded for several days even though the rain alreadystopped. As a consequence, people always take off their sandals or shoes, thenroll up their trousers so they don't get wet and dirty. The teachers who passby there, always took off their shoes and rolled up their trousers. Studentsalso do the same. But there occurs something special. Rio, a grade 4elementary school boy, collected several stones he found around the place. Heput a stone along the puddle. As a result, anyone who passes there after Rio,can stand and walk on these stones, without having to take off the shoes androll up the trousers. Rio made an initiative that nobody else thought of. The word"initiative" comes from the Latin "itiare" or"initium" means starting or beginning. For a job or work, theinitiative means to take or make the first step and make a breakthrough. In theGospel passage we have just heard, the Lord Jesus explains that the rich masterpraises his clever employee, even though he is dishonest because he manipulatesthe data of his master's debts. This"clever" attitude is interpreted as the ability to forsee the future.The employee represents many of us who often worried about tomorrow. There arepeople who save a lot in the bank. The other invest many in the form ofproperties. Still others want to guarantee their future by sending theirchildren and grandchildren to the best schools and universities. These are allforms of initiative. People can do some initiatives through dishonest ways likethat employee of the rich master, or vice versa in true and honest ways. Wewill be pleased by God for being able to count for our future, for a better andjoyful life. For the spirituallife, we need spiritual initiatives. Saint Paul describes his future as brightas Jesus Christ, so that he could serve other nations, especially the Romans asexpected. They were promised a glorious spiritual dwelling in the future as childrenof light, to enjoy happiness in the Kingdom of God. Initiative in faith teachesus to take the first step to enlighten those who are confused, anxious,hopeless and lost in their faith journey; being a peacemaker in the midst ofhatred and anger; become the creator of justice rather than the ghost ofinjustice; become a bearer of truth rather than spreading lies and deception.And much more. This is the future that God wants.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus Christ, enlighten us always in the path of our lives day byday, that we may walk without barriers toward you. Di sebuah pemukiman kampung, jalan menuju ke sekolah dasarselalu tergenang air beberapa hari meskipun hujan sudah berhenti. Akibatnya,orang selalu membuka sandal atau sepatu, lalu menggulungkan celana panjangsupaya tidak terkena air dan basah. Bapa atau ibu guru yang lewat di situ,selalu membuka sepatu dan menggulungkan celana panjang mereka. Para murid jugamelakukan yang sama. Tetapi ada suatu kejadian yang spesial.  Rio, murid kelas 4 sd, mengumpulkan beberapa batu yangditemukannya di sekitar tempat itu. Ia menaruh batu di sepanjang genangan airtersebut. Hasilnya, setiap orang yang melewati di situ setelah Rio, dapatberpijak pada batu-batu tersebut, tanpa harus melepaskan sepatu danmenggulungkan celana panjang. Rio membuat sebuah inisiatif yang tidakdipikirkan orang-orang lain. Kata inisiatif dari bahasa Latin itiare atau initium mengandungarti memulai atau mengawali. Untuk sebuah pekerjaan atau tindakan, inisiatifitu ialah mengambil atau membuat langkah pertama dan membuat terobosan. Didalam kisah Injil yang baru saja kita dengar, Tuhan Yesus menguraikan bahwatuan yang kaya itu memuji pegawainya yang cerdik, meski ia berbuat tidak jujurkarena memanipulasi data hutang para piutang tuannya.  Cerdik ini ditafsirkan sebagai kemampuan memperhitungkanmasa depan. Pegawai tersebut mewakili banyak orang dari antara kita yang seringkuatir akan hari esok. Ada orang menabung banyak uang di bank. Yang laininvestasi berupa harta milik. Yang lain lagi ingin menjamin masa depan denganmenyekolahkan anak cucunya sebaik mungkin. Semua itu adalah bentuk-bentukinisiatif. Orang bisa saja mengisi inisiatifnya itu dengan cara tidak jujurseperti pegawai tadi, atau sebaliknya dengan cara benar dan jujur. Kita akandipuji oleh Tuhan karena mampu memperhitungkan masa depan demi suatu nasibhidup yang lebih baik Untuk kehidupan rohani, kita perlu insiatif rohani. SantoPaulus menggambarkan masa depannya seterang Yesus Kristus, agar dapat melayanibangsa lain, khususnya orang Roma sesuai harapan. Mereka dijanjikan masa depanrohani yang gemilang sebagai anak-anak terang untuk hidup bahagia di dalamKerajaan Allah. Inisiatif iman mengajarkan kita untuk mengambil langkah pertamamenjadi terang bagi mereka yang bingung, gelisah, putus asa dan tersesathidupnya. Menjadi pembawa damai di tengah kebencian dan kemarahan. Menjadipencipta keadilan daripada hantu ketidakadilan. Menjadi pembawa kebenarandaripada penyebaran kebohongan dan tipu daya. The teenager and adult catechumens arepreparing themselves for baptism in the coming Holy Week. They hold regulardiscussions at every meeting during learning activities. There was a veryinteresting discussion session, and a young man who participated in this sessionthen shared his reflection. At that time theydiscussed on the consequences one should face after the baptism. In general,they understand that all rules and teachings in the Catholic Church must bediligently followed. For this young man, those general guidelines andinstructions are very normative. That means, each and every member of theCatholic Church must obey and practice them. The focus of his attention is hispersonal commitment to be responsible for his own faith. He is very seriousabout that commitment. This has abackground. Before choosing to be baptized Catholic, he had gone throughperiods of conflict and suffering. He involved in many types of crimes in thesociety, and had spent two years life in prison. Reflecting on his way of life,he then made a conclusion, that if God had created him, God certainly will takecare and guide him, even though he is a very sinful person. In short, he cannotrun away from God. God will catch him anywhere and anytime. The young man reallyrealizes that he belongs to God. This belief then led him to the decision tochoose to come close to God, through baptism in the Catholic Church. The youngman's experience is a reflection of what is said in the first reading of today,that is, whether we live or die, we remain belong to God. As God has good andrighteous people, this is something very natural. They always reveal the faceof God in the world through their real lives. They are the light of God for theworld. But this does notmean that God closes His eyes to those who are sinners or who are weak infaith. A husband and wife never give up on their children who do not praydiligently, do not attend the Holy Mass regularly every Sunday, and are notactive in Church activities. They believe that their children still belong toGod. Even though it seems they are far away and outside the circle of theChurch, they also never forget and negate God. They still pray individually andentrust their lives into God's hands. In fact, God isguiding them and many others who are living like the lost sheep, who in propertime will return to the sheepfold, the Church. Para katekumen remaja dan dewasa sedang mempersiapkan diri untukpembaptisannya nanti dalam pekan suci. Mereka mengadakan diskusi rutin setiapkali pertemuan untuk kegiatan pembelajaran. Ada satu sesi diskusi yang sangatmenarik, dan seorang pemuda yang ikut dalam sesi ini kemudian berbagirefleksinya. Pada waktu itu mereka berdiskusi tentang konsekuensi yangharus ditanggung setelah dibaptis. Secara umum, mereka memahami bahwa segalaaturan dan ajaran di dalam Gereja Katolik harus diikuti. Bagi pemuda ini,pedoman umum itu sangat normatif. Artinya, setiap dan semua anggota GerejaKatolik wajib mematuhinya. Yang menjadi fokus perhatiannya ialah komitmenpribadi dalam mempertanggungjawabkan imannya. Ia sangat serius dengan komitmenitu. Hal ini ada latar belakangnya. Sebelum memilih untukdibaptis secara Katolik, ia telah melewati masa-masa yang penuh konflik danderita. Ia terlibat dalam banyak jenis kejahatan di masyarakat, dan pernahmenikmati hidup di dalam penjara. Dalam semua permenungan tentang jalanhidupnya, ia membuat kesimpulan, bahwa jika Tuhan telah menciptakannya, Tuhanpasti memelihara dan membimbingnya, meskipun ia seorang yang sangat berdosa.Singkatnya, ia tidak bisa berlari dari Tuhan. Sampai di mana pun Tuhan akan menangkapnya. Pemuda itu sungguh menyadari bahwa ia adalah milik Tuhan.Prinsip itulah yang membawanya kepada keputusan untuk memilih dekat denganTuhan, melalui pembaptisan di dalam Gereja Katolik. Pengalaman pemuda itumerupakan refleksi atas apa yang dikatakan dalam bacaan pertama hari ini, yaituentah hidup, entah mati, kita tetap milik Tuhan. Tuhan memiliki orang-orangbaik dan benar adalah suatu kewajaran. Mereka selalu menampakkan wajah Allah didunia melalui tutur kata, sikap dan perbuatannya. Mereka adalah terang dari Tuhansendiri. Namun ini tidak berarti bahwa Tuhan menutup mata kepadamereka yang berdosa atau yang imannya setengah-setengah. Sepasang suami-istritidak pernah menyerah akan anak-anaknya yang belum tekun berdoa. Merejamenghadiri Misa rutin setiap hari minggu, dan aktif dalam kegiatan-kegiatanGereja. Mereka percaya bahwa anak-anaknya tetap milik Tuhan. Biarpun tampaknyamereka jauh dan berada di luar lingkaran Gereja, mereka juga tidak pernah lupadan meniadakan Tuhan. Mereka masih tetap berdoa sendiri-sendiri dan mempercayakanhidupnya masing-masing ke dalam tangan Tuhan. Sebenarnya, Tuhan sedang membimbing mereka dan banyakorang lainnya yang menjalani hidup seperti domba-domba yang hilang, yang padasaatnya akan kembali ke kandang, yaitu Gereja. Setiap orang akan menemukansaatnya masing-masing. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Allah, pakailahdiri kami sebagai gembala yang menemukan domba-dombamu yang hilang. To be honest, the democratic system and the administration of thestate anywhere in the world, choose to be oriented towards love, if we want thecountry to be safe, just, peaceful, and prosperous for every citizen. Even the largest modern democracy like America is indire need of love. They are tired of all the political phenomena and turmoil,especially because of the actions of their leaders. Not only the United States,many countries are also facing a crisis of public trust in their leaders. Ifthere is love, then the messages and actions they convey will certainly producea sense of peace and comfort in society. Because of that love, things that deal with justiceare given a path so that justice is realized. Those related to a sense ofcomfort and security are given space to grow. If peace is sought, attention toit is optimized. Likewise, tolerance and solidarity in diversity continue to beencouraged and we need to work hard to bring it about.  Love can enter all areas of life, influence it, andthen animate everything. That means love is present in all and reigns over all.Saint Paul says in the first reading that love is the fulness of the law. OnlyGod can do all of this. So, love is God Himself. He is above all forms ofrules, norms and laws that govern all the steps of our lives. The Lord Jesus advises us today that, in situationswhere conflict occurs because of existing differences, the best way is toabandon or detach ourselves from the egos of each other that tend to sharpenconflict. We must rise to a higher level, that is, God's own love is the mainreference. Only then can we find solutions for our lives.Let us pray. In the name of the Father... God the Father inheaven, save us from all situations of conflict and opposition only by gettingrid of every very strong self-interest, so that we can live together in thespirit of Your love. Sejak saat dilantik, Presiden, Wakil Presiden dan para menteripembantunya sungguh berperan sebagai tokoh-tokoh publik, pelayan masyarakat,dan berperilaku sebagai teladan bagi semua warga masyarakat. Kata dan tindakanmereka dilihat oleh semua orang. Para pemimpin di tingkat daerah dan di dalamlembaga-lembaga swasta juga membuat sumpah untuk menjadi pelayan dan teladanyang baik bagi banyak orang. Singkatnya, mereka mau tidak mau harus hidup dalamsemangat cinta kasih. Kriteria hukum yang universal adalah cinta kasih, yangmenjadi panglima dalam sistem tata krama, adat istiadat dan hukum positif dalamkehidupan warga negara. Jujur saja, sistem demokrasi dan penyelenggaraan negaradi mana pun di dunia ini, memilih berorientasi pada cinta kasih, jika inginsupaya negaranya aman, damai, tenteram, dan menyejahterakan setiap warganegaranya. Negara demokrasi modern terbesar seperti Amerika punsangat memerlukan cinta kasih. Mereka lelah dengan semua fenomena dan gejolakpolitik terutama karena ulah para pemimpinnya. Tidak hanya Amerika Serikat,banyak negara saat ini juga menghadapi krisis kepercayaan warga masyarakatkepada para pemimpinnya. Kalau ada cinta kasih maka pesan dan tindakan yangmereka sampaikan tentu menghasilkan rasa damai dan nyaman di dalam masyarakat. Karena cinta kasih itu, hal yang berurusan dengan keadilandiberikan jalurnya supaya terwujud keadilan. Yang berkaitan dengan rasa nyamandan aman, diberikan porsinya. Jika perdamaian yang diusahakan, perhatian kesitu dioptimalkan. Demikian juga toleransi dan solidaritas dalam keanekaragamanterus digalakkan dan kita perlu bekerja keras untuk menghadirkannya.  Cinta kasih dapat masuk ke segala bidang kehidupan,mempengaruhinya, lalu menjiwai semuanya. Itu berarti cinta kasih hadir di dalamsemua dan berkuasa atas semua. Santo Paulus mengatakan di dalam bacaan pertamabahwa cinta kasih adalah kegenapan hukum. Hanya Tuhan yang dapat melakukansemua ini. Jadi, cinta kasih ialah Tuhan Allah sendiri. Ia berada di atassegala bentuk aturan, norma dan hukum yang mengatur segala langkah hidup kita. Tuhan Yesus memberikan nasihat kepada kita pada hari inibahwa, di dalam situasi di mana konflik terjadi karena perbedaan-perbedaan yangada, jalan terbaik ialah tinggalkan atau lepaskan diri kita dari egomasing-masing yang cenderung mempertajam konflik. Kita harus naik ke tingkatyang lebih tinggi yaitu, cinta kasih Tuhan sendiri yang menjadi rujukan utama.Di situ baru kita dapat menemukan solusi untuk hidup kita. Marilah kita berdoa. Today,the Church commemorates Saint Charles Borromeo. He came from a wealthy noblefamily and enjoyed high social standing as the nephew of Pope Pius IV. He washighly educated, becoming a lawyer, both civil and Church at the age of 21.Charles certainly had the potential to become a prominent and important figure. But his life's pathled him to become a diligent, pious, and dignified servant of the Church, sothat until his death he was an Archbishop and Cardinal leading the Archdioceseof Milan. He worked diligently and humbly in all the tasks entrusted to him bythe Church. Within the Church, he became the patron saint of priests. Charlesgave up all desires and activities in the social and political world because ofhis great intellectual ability and influence, and followed God's invitation tobecome a servant of the Church as a shepherd of the people and a wise teacherof God's people. God invites with theintention that all of His creations be saved. Why do people deliberatelydecline invitations to be saved? In a sense, we can understand that ourpractice of faith is sometimes incomplete and not serious. It is easy forpeople to say "yes" with their faith and membership in the Church.But in reality they do not come to strengthen unity among the faithful, to beactively involved in the Church activities, to sacrifice themselves for theirsuffering fellow-men, and offer themselves voluntarily in the service andmission of the Lord Jesus in the world. We need to continueto believe that the Church and the Kingdom of God that the Lord Jesus hasentrusted to us, still need to be developed and perfected, and if necessary beable to rule the entire world. We are the ones who must fulfill ourselves inaccordance with the scriptures and teachings of the Church. The emphasis mustbe on the role of each person as believer, and not merely on any organization,institution or movement from outside. About this, SaintPaul gives us an advice: if each of us makes use each of his personal gifts: asa preacher, office employee, teacher, farmer, businessman, servant and so on,and to be strengthened by the Christian spirituality, we can feel sure tofulfill the invitation to the kingdom of God. The principle is: none of us comeand join as an empty self. The gifts in every person should  not remain in vain. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Ia berasaldari keluarga bangsawan yang kaya raya dan status yang tinggi di matamasyarakat karena sebagai keponakan Paus Pius IV. Pendidikannya sangat tinggi,sampai menjadi ahli hukum baik sipil maupun Gereja pada usia 21 tahun. Karolusmemang punya peluang menjadi orang penting dan besar. Tetapi jalan hidupnya mengantarnya untuk menjadi pelayanGereja yang tekun, saleh dan berwibawa sehingga sampai wafatnya ia adalahseorang uskup agung dan kardinal yang memimpin Keuskupan Agung Milan. Iabekerja penuh ketekunan dan kerendahan hati dalam semua tugas yang dipercayakanGereja kepadanya. Di dalam Gereja ia menjadi santo pelindung para imam. Karolusmelepaskan semua keinginan dan kegiatan di dalam dunia sosial dan politikkarena kemampuan intelektual dan pengaruhnya yang besar, dan mengikuti undanganTuhan untuk menjadi pelayan Gereja sebagai gembala umat dan guru yang bijaksanabagi umat Allah. Tuhan mengundang dengan tujuannya supaya kita semuaciptaan-Nya selamat. Mengapa orang sampai sengaja menolak undangan untukmenjadi selamat? Dalam arti tertentu, dapat kita pahami bahwa praktik iman kitaterkadang tidak utuh dan tidak serius. Orang-orang mudah saja menyatakan"yes" dengan iman dan keanggotaannya ke dalam Gereja. Tetapi di dalamkenyataannya mereka tidak datang untuk memperkuat persekutuan, terlibat aktifdalam hidup bersama, berkorban bagi sesamanya yang menderita, dan mempersembahkandiri secara suka rela dalam pelayanan dan misi Tuhan Yesus di dunia. Kita perlu tetap meyakini bahwa Gereja dan Kerajaan Allahyang sudah dipercayakan Tuhan Yesus kepada kita, tetap perlu dibesarkan danbila perlu dapat menguasai seluruh dunia. Kitalah yang berusaha memenuhi dirikita supaya sesuai dengan kitab suci dan ajarannya. Penekanannya sudah harusterletak pada peran setiap orang sebagai orang-orang beriman, dan bukan melulupada organisasi, lembaga, atau gerakan apa pun dari luar. Tentang hal ini Santo Paulus memberikan nasihat: jikasetiap dari kita mengoptimalkan setiap karunia pribadi masing-masing: sebagaipewarta, pegawai kantoran, guru, petani, pengusaha, pelayan dan sebagainya,semangat hidup kristiani menjadi semakin kuat dan hidup beriman menjadi lebihbaik. Dengan demikian kita baru dapat menjadi bagian menyatu di dalam KerajaanAllah. Prinsipnya: jangan ada satu pun dari kita datang dan bergabung dengandiri yang kosong. Karunia yang ada tidak boleh disia-siakan saja. Marilah kita berdoa. A 28-year-old youngman finally decided to get married. He had carefully considered everything,especially the matter of proposing to his future wife. Previously, he had beeninterested in several female friends, but his parents did not approve. They hadcompelling reasons that were acceptable to the young man. Therefore, hecarefully considered their advice in choosing his future wife. The young man thenexpressed his satisfaction and joy to his parents. In following their advice,he realized that their choice aligned with his own. He told his parents thattheir love and attention for him were acts of giving and continued to give,from the time he was in his mother's womb until the time he was about to marry.Parents give everything to their children and never ask for anything in return.According to the young man, by following and heeding their advice and guidance,he was actually able to repay all the kindness he had received. Giving is an act ofgoing out from oneself in order to reach out other people or the world around. Therecan be tangible and non-tangible objects that we usually give. If somethingmeant as an attention and help, then the act of giving is an act of love. Theone who has love, always gives from oneself without consideration that he will becomea losser or lacking of things. Moreover, if he gives and continues to give, andnot expecting anything in return, that is a true and genuine love. This is thegift of love that God wants. Actually we do notneed to worry that as we continue to give, at one time we can not give anymorebecause we no longer have anything else. This concern is normal, because maybeour view depends only on the material wealth we have. Yet we still have spiritualor non-material wealth. Spiritual wealth is eternal, such as God's wisdom andgrace. When we are lacking even to the point of not having spiritual capacity,we will certainly ask for it from God. Giving as an act oflove indeed comes from God as the main giver. Saint Paul says in the firstreading that everything comes from God, therefore, He really does not needanything in return. Everything is grace. Likewise the Lord Jesus in today'sGospel asks us to love without expecting anything in return. This is the sameas helping a poor or needy person, who really does not have any possibility torepay something in return. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Almighty Father, we entrust our lives into your hands, make us useful toour brothers and sisters. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the HolySpirit ... In the name of the Father ...

Seorang pemuda berusia 28 tahun pada akhirnyamemutuskan untuk menikah. Ia sudah pertimbangkan segala sesuatu dengan matang,khususnya melamar perempuan yang menjadi calon istrinya. Sebelumnya, iamenaksir sejumlah teman perempuannya, tetapi kedua orang tuanya tidak merestui.Mereka punya alasan yang kuat dan dapat diterima oleh pemuda itu. Jadi iasungguh mempertimbangkan nasihat orang tua dalam memilih calon istrinya. Pemuda itu kemudian menyampaikan rasa puas dan senangnyakepada bapa dan mamanya. Dalam menuruti itu, ia menyadari bahwa pilihan merekajustru sesuai dengan pilihannya. Ia berkata kepada orang tuanya bahwa cinta danperhatian mereka kepadanya merupakan perbuatan memberi dan tetap memberi, sejakdalam kandungan ibu sampai saat ia hendak menikah. Orang tua memberi segalanyakepada anak dan tidak pernah meminta balasannya. Menurut pemuda itu, ketika iamenuruti dan mengindahkan nasihat atau bimbingan mereka, ia justru dapatmemberi suatu balasan atas semua kebaikan yang telah diterimanya. Memberi merupakan tindakan keluar dari diri sendiri supayasampai kepada orang lain atau dunia di sekitarnya. Yang diberikan dapat berupabenda nyata dan yang tidak nyata. Jika pemberian itu bermaksud sebagai suatuperhatian dan bantuan, maka tindakan memberi itu sebagai sebuah cinta kasih.Orang yang dipenuhi semangat cinta kasih, selalu memberikan dari dirinya tanpaharus mempertimbangkan bahwa ia menjadi rugi atau berkekurangan. Ditambah lagi,jika ia memberi dan terus memberi, sambil tidak mengharapkan balasan, ituadalah suatu pemberian yang sejati. Pemberian yang diinginkan oleh Tuhan. Sebenarnya kita tidak perlu kawatir, bahwa dengan terusmemberi, pada suatu ketika kita tidak dapat memberi lagi karena kita tidakmemiliki apa-apa lagi. Kekawatiran ini sangat normal, karena pandangan yanghanya bergantung pada kekayaan materi yang dimiliki. Padahal kita masih memilikikekayaan rohani atau non-materi. Kekayaan rohani itu sifatnya abadi, misalnyakebijaksanaan dan kasih karunia Tuhan. Ketika kita kekurangan bahkan sampaikehabisan kemampuan rohani itu, kita tentu akan memintanya dari Tuhan.   Tindakan kasih dalam memberi bersumber dari Tuhan sebagaipemberi yang utama. Santo Paulus mengatakan di dalam bacaan pertama, bahwasegala sesuatu berasal dari Allah, sehingga Ia sesungguhnya tidak membutuhkanbalasan. Semuanya adalah rahmat. Demikian juga Tuhan Yesus di dalam Injil,meminta kita untuk mengasihi tanpa mengharapkan balasan untuk dikasihi juga.Hal ini sama dengan menolong orang miskin atau berkekurangan, di mana iasesungguhnya tidak punya kemungkinan untuk membalas pemberian itu. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Bapa maha kuasa,aku mempercayakan hidupku ke dalam tangan-Mu, jadikanlah aku berguna bagisaudara dan saudariku. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa ... Dalam nama Bapa ...

Today our Church commemorates the souls of all believers, our fellowdeparted brothers and sisters. Our activity in the Church today is to pray forthose souls. The priests are asked to celebrate the Eucharist three times.People in general can attend these Masses at the same time offer intentions ofprayer for the souls of their family members. It is important tounderstand this commemoration and our task to pray, therefore, we need todepart from the true faith we profess. In the prayer "I Believe", we professour faith in the resurrection of the body and everlasting life, and everybeliever constantly renews this belief. The souls of our families and neighborsare helped by the prayers of the whole Church so that they will be graced withresurrection and finally enjoy eternal life in heaven. As the statement"finally enjoying eternal life in heaven" goes, this implies animportant meaning. This means there is a process that the souls go throughbefore entering heaven. We call this process as purgatory. This is a veryspecial teaching in the Catholic Church that emphasizes the sanctification forthe souls which happens in a process of purification. They are like being burnedto become pure. The sins and their consequences that still attach to thesesouls are cleansed. They certainly suffer because of this process ofpurification. But they cannot helpthemselves. They are all spirits and do not have all the possibilities togather and pray. Therefore they really need the support of our prayers, we whoare still in the world. The second book of Maccabees in the first reading showstwo forms of help for these souls, namely prayer and sacrifice. Our prayersincludes from the simplest and spontaneous personal prayers to the highest onethat is the Eucharistic celebration. The sacrifice can be in the form of goods,money and deeds offered in the Church. The teaching ofpurgatory about our prayers and sacrifices, aims for the resurrection of thebody and everlasting life of those souls. This is part of the contribution ofthe Church. God's part in this regard is the event of the resurrection of Jesusand the providence of a place for each of His followers. He wills that none ofHis followers is lost. This divine act is final, so those who have died inChrist are destined into heaven. To be able to bring them there, the purgatoryis needed. So today we carry outour duty or responsibility so that its purpose is realized, that is, the soulsare purified for their entry into heaven. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Father of mercy, we pray for the souls of our brothers and sisters: eternalrest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them, and maythey rest in peace. Kegiatan kitadalam Gereja pada hari ini ialah berdoa bagi para arwah itu. Para imam dimintauntuk merayakan tiga kali Ekaristi. Umat dapat menghadirinya sekaligusmenyampaikan intensi-intensi doa bagi arwah anggota keluarga mereka. Pentingnya untuk memahami peringatan dan tugas doa ini,kita perlu berangkat dari keyakinan iman yang hakiki. Di dalam rumusan doa “AkuPercaya”, kita percaya akan kebangkitan badan dan kehidupan kekal. Para arwahkeluarga dan sesama kita, dibantu dengan doa-doa seluruh Gereja supaya merekadianugerahi kebangkitan dan akhirnya menikmati kehidupan abadi di dalam surga.  Menyebut mereka “akhirnya menikmati hidup abadi di dalamsurga” ini memiliki makna yang penting. Ini berarti ada sebuah proses yangdilalui oleh para arwah sebelum masuk surga. Proses ini kita sebut dengan apipenyucian. Ajaran yang sangat khas dalam Gereja Katolik ini ingin menegaskanbahwa penyucian bagi para arwah merupakan proses pemurnian. Mereka bagaidibakar supaya menjadi murni. Dosa-dosa dan akibatnya yang masih melekat dalamdiri para arwah ini dibersihkan. Mereka tentu menderita karena pemurnian ini.  Tetapi mereka sendiri tidak bisa membantu dirinya sendiri.Mereka sebagai arwah tidak memiliki segala kemungkinan untuk berkumpul danberdoa. Oleh karena itu mereka sangat membutuhkan dukungan doa-doa kita yangmasih berada di dunia. Kitab kedua Makabe dalam bacaan pertama menetapkan duabentuk bantuan kepada para arwah ini, yaitu doa dan kurban. Doa-doa kitamencakup yang paling sederhana seperti doa pribadi yang spontan sampai denganibadat Ekaristi. Kurban itu bisa dalam bentuk barang, uang dan perbuatan yangdipersembahkan ke Gereja. Ajaran api penyucian tentang doa-doa dan kurban dari kita,bertujuan untuk kebangkitan dan kehidupan abadi para arwah, dan ini adalahbagian sumbangan dari Gereja. Bagiannya Tuhan adalah peristiwa Yesus bangkitdan menyediakan tempat bagi setiap pengikut-Nya. Ia berkehendak kalau tak adasatu pun dari pengikut-Nya hilang. Penetapan ini sudah final, maka mereka yangsudah meninggal dunia di dalam Kristus itu statusnya sudah menjelang surga.Untuk dapat membawanya tiba di sana diperlukan api penyucian itu.  Jadi hari ini kita melakukan tugas atau tanggung jawabkita supaya terwujudlah tujuannya, yaitu para arwah dimurnikan demi masuknyamereka ke dalam surga. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa maha rahim, kamiberdoa bagi para arwah saudara dan saudari kami: berikanlah istirahat kekalkepada mereka, ya Tuhan, sinarilah mereka dengan cahaya abadi, dan semogamereka beristirahat dalam damai. Today the wholeChurch celebrates the feast of all the saints. All saints are in heaven andcannot be anywhere else. They are glorious members of the Church, compared toother members who are still in the pilgrimage in the world, and who are experiencingpurification in purgatory. Those glorious Churchmembers have ever been in the world like us. Having lived a life of faithfulimitation of Jesus Christ, after their death, they are graced with eternal lifeas saints. What are they doing in eternity in heaven? There are many, but wecan mention just one following the inspiration of the today's readings, namelythey see Christ as He truly is. These saints are notangels. The angels are spirit beings and have no names (except for the three Archangels:Michael, Raphael and Gabriel). The saints have names and by the Church, theirnames are applied to the names of every follower of Christ as baptismal names.There are some saints established by the Church through the process ofbeatification and canonization, which means that they become perfect models forus. There are others who are not listed to follow that process but their heroicand saintly examples are very important to us. The road to holinessis open to every believer. The book of revelation in the first readingillustrates the vision of a large number of people from various corners of theworld dressed in white around the almighty throne of God. Holiness is indeed agift for us to realize. To make it happen, while still in the world we areobliged to actualize and live the pearls of happiness as proclaimed by the LordJesus in today's Gospel reading, namely Matthew chapter 5. We are called to beholy through the way of happiness in being poor before God, mourning, gentle,hungry and thirsty for truth, generous, pure of heart, bringing peace, beingpersecuted for the truth, and for the sake of Jesus Christ Himself. There is noshow of force or obligation to follow all this, but when someone has chosen tolive in this spirit, he or she has to live according to its demand. The life of happinesscan be experienced on this earth, yet its perfect realization is indeed inheaven, that is when we see Christ as He truly is. Let's pray. Hari ini seluruh Gerejamerayakan hari raya semua orang kudus. Semua orang kudus berada di surga dantak mungkin di tempat lain. Mereka adalah anggota Gereja yang mulia,dibandingkan dengan anggota lain yang masih berziarah di dunia, dan yangmengalami pemurnian di api penyucian.   Anggota Gereja yang mulia pernah berada di dunia sepertikita. Karena telah menjalani kehidupan dalam kesetiaan meneladani YesusKristus, setelah kematiannya, mereka dikaruniai kehidupan abadi sebagaiorang-orang kudus. Apakah yang mereka lakukan di dalam keabadian yaitu disurga? Ada banyak, namun kita dapat menyebutkan satu saja sesuai inspirasibacaan-bacaan hari ini, ialah mereka melihat Kristus dalam keadaan-Nya yangsebenarnya. Orang-orang kudus ini bukan para malaikat. Para malaikatitu adalah makhluk roh dan tidak punya nama (kecuali ketiga malaikat agung).Orang-orang kudus punya nama dan oleh Gereja, nama-nama itu dipakaikan padanama setiap pengikut Kristus sebagai nama-nama baptis. Ada sebagian orang kudusditetapkan Gereja melalui proses beatifikasi dan kanonisasi, yang maksudnyasupaya mereka menjadi model sempurna bagi kita. Ada sebagian lain yang tidakmelalui proses itu tetapi keteladanan mereka sangat penting bagi kita. Jalan menuju kekudusan terbuka bagi setiap orang beriman.Kitab wahyu dalam bacaan pertama menggambarkan penglihatan akan sejumlah besarorang dari berbagai penjuru dunia berpakaian putih berada di sekitar tahtaAllah maha tinggi. Kekudusan itu memang karunia untuk kita wujudkan. Untukmewujudkannya, ketika masih berada di dunia kita wajib melakukan dan menghayatidengan sesungguhnya butir-butir mutiara kebahagiaan yang disampaikan oleh TuhanYesus dalam injil hari ini, yaitu Matius bab 5. Kita terpanggil untuk menjadi kudus melalui semangat hidupberbahagia karena miskin di hadapan Allah, berdukacita, lemah lembut, lapar danhaus akan kebenaran, murah hati, suci hati, membawa damai, dianiaya demikebenaran, dan demi Yesus Kristus sendiri. Tak ada paksaan untuk mengikutisemua ini, tetapi begitu seseorang yang telah memilih untuk hidup dalamsemangat itu, semua itu sudah menjadi tuntutan untuk dijalankan. Hasil yang didapatkan memang sudah dapat dirasakan ketikamasih di dunia, tetapi kenikmatan yang sempurna ialah di surga, yaitu ketikakita melihat Kristus dalam keadaan-Nya yang sebenarnya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Yesus Kristus,terangilah aku dalam jalan menuju kesempurnaan dan semoga para kudus yang muliamendoakan aku untuk dengan gembira melewati jalan itu sambil senantiasamemuji-Mu di tempat yang maha tinggi. Romans 9: 1-5; Rs psalm 147: 12-13.14-15.19-20; Luke 14: 1-6.WITNESSING FOR JESUS CHRIST Our meditation today is entitled: Witnessing for JesusChrist. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Church in Rome, he affirmed withconviction that he was "telling the truth and not lying" about hisfaith in Jesus Christ (Romans 9:1). This statement is not just a self-defense,but a testimony of someone who dares to let go of everything that used to behis pride.  As a devout Jew and educated in the law, Paul had anhonorable position among his people. However, when he came to know Christ, hiswhole life changed. He had to leave the comfort zone of his old tradition forthe sake of the gospel truth he found in Jesus. He embraced new life in Jesuswho converted him and led him to the truth. Paul experienced a deep inner struggle because hisdecision of faith set him apart from his fellow countrymen. He grieved thatmany Jews rejected Christ, even though it was from them that the promise ofsalvation came. In that mental anguish, Paul realized that faithfulness toChrist should really lead people to take up the cross of separation —even ofthose we love. However, he did not stop in grief. He took the wound as anopportunity to testify, because for him to know Christ was far more preciousthan anything he had ever had. This is where we learn that witnessing for Christ doesnot always mean speaking out loud or preaching in front of a multitude.Witnessing also means the courage to remain true to the truths of the gospeleven if we have to lose comfort, relationships, or the recognition of theworld. Paul shows that true faith does not stop at lip recognition, but ismanifested in a renewed life. In Christ, he found a new meaning: no longer tolive according to the law, but to live in liberating grace. Jesus himself has shown that the truth and love thatHe brings will separate the believers and those who reject. His teaching on theSabbath day is a clear example: while many people blindly obey the rules, Jesusputs love and human salvation first. "The Sabbath was kept for man, notman for the Sabbath," He says (Mark 2:27). This Word reveals that truefaith is not a matter of ritual, but of a willing heart of love. Thus, thosewho follow Jesus must be prepared for a separation —between those who closethemselves off in the rules, and those who are open to saving love. Like Paul, we too are called to testify for JesusChrist today. The modern world offers many things that seem interesting, butoften drown out the value of truth and love. To testify for Christ means todare to choose love in the midst of hatred, honesty in the midst of falsehood,and forgiveness in the midst of revenge. It is this kind of testimony thatkeeps Christ present in the world: not just through words, but through lifethat is a mirror of His love.  Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O Almighty God,imbue us with Your Spirit who teaches us all truth. May we be more able to bearwitness to Your truth. Glory to the Father ... In the name of the Father ...

Ketika Rasul Paulus menulis kepada umat di Roma, ia menegaskandengan penuh keyakinan bahwa ia “mengatakan kebenaran dan tidak berdusta”tentang imannya kepada Yesus Kristus (Roma 9:1). Pernyataan ini bukan sekadarpembelaan diri, melainkan kesaksian dari seseorang yang berani melepaskansegala yang dahulu menjadi kebanggaannya.  Sebagai seorang Yahudi yang taat dan terdidik dalamhukum Taurat, Paulus memiliki kedudukan yang terhormat di tengah bangsanya.Namun, ketika ia mengenal Kristus, seluruh hidupnya berubah. Ia harusmeninggalkan zona aman tradisi lamanya demi kebenaran Injil yang ia temukandalam Yesus. Ia menemukan hidup baru di dalam Yesus Kristus yang menobatkannyadan membimbingnya kepada kebenaran. Paulus mengalami pergulatan batin yang mendalam karenakeputusan imannya itu membuatnya terpisah dari saudara-saudaranya sebangsa. Iaberduka karena banyak orang Yahudi yang menolak Kristus, padahal dari merekalahjanji keselamatan itu berasal. Dalam penderitaan batin itu, Paulus menyadaribahwa kesetiaan kepada Kristus kadang berarti memikul salib perpisahan — bahkandari mereka yang kita kasihi. Namun, ia tidak berhenti di dalam kesedihan. Iamenjadikan luka itu sebagai kesempatan untuk bersaksi, karena baginya, mengenalKristus jauh lebih berharga daripada segala hal yang pernah ia miliki. Di sinilah kita belajar bahwa bersaksi demi Kristustidak selalu berarti berbicara lantang atau berkhotbah di hadapan banyak orang.Bersaksi juga berarti keberanian untuk tetap setia kepada kebenaran Injilmeskipun kita harus kehilangan kenyamanan, relasi, atau pengakuan dunia. Paulusmenunjukkan bahwa iman sejati tidak berhenti pada pengakuan bibir, tetapidiwujudkan dalam hidup yang berubah. Dalam Kristus, ia menemukan makna baru:bukan lagi hidup menurut hukum, melainkan hidup dalam kasih karunia yang memerdekakan. Yesus sendiri sudah menunjukkan bahwa kebenaran dankasih yang Ia bawa akan memisahkan antara yang percaya dan yang menolak.Ajaran-Nya tentang hari Sabat menjadi contoh nyata: sementara banyak orangmenaati aturan dengan buta, Yesus mengutamakan cinta kasih dan keselamatanmanusia. “Hari Sabat diadakan untuk manusia, bukan manusia untuk hari Sabat,”kata-Nya (Mrk 2:27). Sabda ini menyingkapkan bahwa iman yang sejati bukan soalritual, tetapi soal hati yang rela mengasihi. Maka, mereka yang mengikuti Yesusharus siap menghadapi pemisahan — antara mereka yang menutup diri dalam aturan,dan mereka yang terbuka pada kasih yang menyelamatkan. Seperti Paulus, kita pun dipanggil untuk bersaksi demiYesus Kristus di zaman ini. Dunia modern menawarkan banyak hal yang tampakmenarik, tetapi sering menenggelamkan nilai kebenaran dan kasih. Bersaksi bagiKristus berarti berani memilih kasih di tengah kebencian, kejujuran di tengahkepalsuan, dan pengampunan di tengah dendam. A young man told his friends during a session offaith formation in the church, how he maintains his faith in the place where heworks. He is a devout and truly believer, but his friends who are not of thesame faith with him, do not show themselves as believers. Many like toblaspheme God. They do sinful acts such as spreading slander, acting rudely inwords and actions, cheating and unfairness to neighbours. This young man holdsthe principle that the God he believes in and who accompanies him at all times,gives him a sense of security, strength, and confidence. He has no fearwhatsoever, even though his surroundings are in favor of a lifestyle that iscontrary to God. For him, there is no fear of living and being with God. Fellowemployees in the office who are abusive, tell lies, spread gossip or insults,and cheat, are the friends he meets every day. He does not feel strange eventhreatened by them. He deals with every one in fairness and friendship. But there's not anyslightest chance for him to be influenced by them. He uses the power of God, sohe is able to maintain his faith and be able to also relate them in a balancedand normal way. This kind of experience is experienced also by many of us.These are all experiences in the real world. In the unreal world, such ascircumstances and reality beyond the reach of the human senses, often become adistraction. Ghost and other supernatural entities are believed to exist inevery culture. Many of us who relyon the power and the holy name of God that accompanying us, not at all afraidof demons, ghosts and supernatural forces. We truly believe that God isstronger than all those powers. Only in the name of the Most Holy God, we areprotected, strengthened and saved. In addition, there are also deadly threats,such as physical violence, war, disease, famine and natural disasters. Forthose who give priority to the power of God in the guidance of their entirelives, they are not at all afraid or shaken in their lives. God determines thefate of their lives. So the good news forus today is the one proclaimed by the two readings today. Saint Paul in hisletter to the Romans emphasizes that only the love of the Lord Jesus Christstrengthens, protects and saves us. There is no other power besides God thatcan separate and stop us. The same is true of the Gospel passage, which revealshow Jesus journeyed confidently into Jerusalem, where He was intended by God.The threat from Herod never scared him a single point or took a step back. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord, teach us to become people who are not afraid of anyone and anythingbut You. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Seorang pemuda bercerita kepada teman-temannya di gereja,bagaimana dirinya mempertahankan imannya di tempat ia bekerja. Ia seorang yangtaat dan sungguh-sungguh beriman, namun teman-temannya yang tidak seimandengannya tidak menampilkan diri sebagai orang-orang beriman. Banyak yang sukamenghujat Allah. Ada yang berperilaku tidak manusiawi seperti menyebar fitnah,bertindak kasar dalam kata-kata dan tindakan, curang dan tidak adil. Pemuda ini berprinsip bahwa Tuhan yang ia imani dan yangmenyertai dia setiap saat, memberikannya rasa aman, kuat, dan percaya diri. Iatidak memiliki rasa takut apa pun, meski di sekelilingnya penuh dengan gayahidup yang berlawanan dengan Tuhan. Baginya, tidak ada ketakutan berada danbersama dengan Tuhan. Sesama karyawan di kantor yang berlaku kasar, berkatabohong, menyebarkan gosip atau penghinaan, dan yang berbuat curang, adalahrekan-rekan yang ia temui setiap hari. Ia tidak merasa asing bahkan terancamoleh mereka. Namun tidak sedikit pun kesempatan baginya untukterpengaruhi oleh mereka. Ia menggunakan kekuatan Tuhan, sehingga ia mampumempertahankan imannya dan mampu juga berelasi dengan mereka secara seimbangdan normal. Pengalaman seperti ini dialami oleh banyak orang di sekitar kita.Ini semua adalah pengalaman di dalam dunia nyata. Di dalam dunia tidak nyata,seperti keadaan dan kenyataan di luar jangkauan indra manusia, sering menjadigangguan tersendiri. Dunia hantu dan gaib diyakini ada di setiap kebudayaan. Banyak di antara kita yang atas nama Tuhan yang menyertai,sama sekali tidak takut dengan setan, hantu, dan kekuatan gaib. Mereka sungguhpercaya bahwa Tuhan Allah lebih kuat daripada semua kekuatan itu. Hanya dengannama Tuhan yang maha kudus, mereka terlindungi, dikuatkan dan diselamatkan.Selain itu, ada juga ancaman-ancaman yang mematikan seperti kekerasan fisik,perang, penyakit, dan bencana alam. Bagi orang-orang yang mengutamakan kekuatanTuhan dalam penyelenggaraan seluruh hidupnya, mereka sama sekali tidak gentardan goyah hidupnya. Tuhanlah yang menentukan nasib hidup mereka. Jadi warta gembira bagi kita hari ini adalah seperti yangdisampaikan oleh kedua bacaan hari ini. Santo Paulus di dalam suratnya kepadajemaat di Roma menegaskan bahwa hanya kasih Tuhan Yesus Kristus yangmenguatkan, melindungi dan menyelamatkan kita. Tidak ada satu pun kekuatan lainselain Tuhan yang dapat memisahkan dan menghancurkan kita. Demikian juga Injil,yang mengungkapkan bagaimana Yesus melangkah dengan pasti ke Yerusalem, tempattujuan-Nya yang sudah ditentukan Tuhan bagi-Nya. Ancaman dari Herodes tidakpernah membuatnya takut satu titik pun atau mundur selangkah. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... Why is the kingdom of Goddescribed in the scriptures as a banquet that God provides? This question wasasked by a teenager to the priest after the celebration of the Eucharist. Someof his friends also came and wanted to hear what the priest wanted to explain. In the pocket of hiscassock, the priest put a number of chocolates. He took them and, from his handfull with chocolates, distributed to a number of teenagers who were therearound him. The priest left one for himself. They all ate together andexpressed the same impression, that those chocolates were very delicious. Thenthe priest answered that question. Banquet or meal inheaven clearly shows that in heaven there is life. There are persons alivethere, and not the dead. To signify the eternal life itself, food is aguarantee for the continuity of life. But for God and all the souls there, thefood for the banquet is not physical in nature such as rice, meat, vegetables,fruits and drinks. The food is only spiritual food. The eternal wordrevealed in loving relationships and in all goodness is the spiritual food inthe kingdom of heaven. All inhabitants of heaven enjoy it in fullness of joyand in eternal communion. All experience how good and beautiful eternal lifeis. The dimension of the unity of all souls and the experience of enjoyment ofthe banquet, are the main characteristics of being in heaven. In this world, thepicture of the eternal banquet is shown by the celebration of the eucharist andworships that we celebrate together. Through these celebrations, as we aretought and reminded over and over again, we commit to prepare ourselves for theeternal feast in heaven. The Lord Jesus reveals to us how to make thatpreparation through a discipline of renouncement. In today's Gospelreading, we find the way for our entry that is through a narrow gate. Howdifficult it is for all people from all corners of the earth to have a smoothentry into the kingdom of heaven, and must pass through the narrow gate. Theymust try to go through all forms of self-denial and bear the burden of thecross carried. All believers realize their choice, that they are determined,called, and justified to take part in eternal life. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Mengapa kerajaan Allah digambarkan dalam kitab suci sebagaiperjamuan makan yang disediakan Tuhan Allah? Pertanyaan itu diajukan olehseorang remaja kepada pastor setelah perayaan Ekaristi. Beberapa temannya jugadatang dan ingin mendengarkan apa yang hendak dijelaskan pastor.  Di dalam saku jubanya, pastor menaruh sejumlah batangcokelat. Ia mengambilnya dan dari genggaman tangannya yang penuh dengancokelat, dibagikannya kepada sejumlah remaja yang ada di situ. Pastormenyisakan satu untuk dirinya. Mereka semua makan bersama-sama danmengungkapkan kesan yang sama, bahwa cokelat itu sangat enak. Lalu pastormenjawab pertanyaan itu. Perjamuan atau santapan di dalam surga jelasmenunjukkan bahwa di surga ada kehidupan. Di sana tinggallah orang-orang hidup,dan bukan orang-orang mati. Demi kehidupan abadi itu, makanan adalah jaminanbagi keberlangsungan kehidupan. Tetapi bagi Tuhan dan semua jiwa yang berada disana, makanan dalam perjamuan itu bukan berbentuk jasmani seperti nasi, lauk,sayur, buah-buahan dan minuman. Makanannya adalah makanan rohani.  Sabda kekal yang terungkap dalam hubungan kasih dandalam segala kebaikan merupakan makanan rohani di dalam kerajaan surga. Semuapenghuni surga menikmatinya dalam kepenuhan suka cita dan dalam persekutuanyang abadi. Semua mengalami betapa enaknya dan indahnya kehidupan yang abadiitu. Dimensi persekutuan semua jiwa orang beriman dan pengalaman nikmatnyasantapan itu, merupakan ciri utama keberadaan di dalam surga.  Di dalam dunia ini, gambaran tentang perjamuan abadiditandai melalui perayaan ekaristi dan ibadat-ibadat yang kita rayakanbersama-sama. Melalui semua itu, kita semua selalu diberikan pengajaran danperingatan berulang-ulang, bahwa persiapan untuk menikmati perjamuan abadi didalam surga harus kita lakukan dengan sungguh-sungguh. Tuhan Yesusmengungkapkan cara membuat persiapan itu melalui suatu disiplin penyangkalandiri.  Di dalam bacaan Injil hari ini, kita menemukan caranyayaitu dengan berusaha masuk melalui pintu yang kecil. Betapa sulitnya semuaorang dari segala penjuru bumi ingin mendapat kelancaran memasuki kerajaansurga, dan harus melewati pintu yang sempit. Mereka semua harus berusahamelalui semua bentuk penyangkalan diri dan menanggung beratnya salib yangdipikul. Semua orang beriman menyadari keterpilihan mereka, bahwa merekaditentukan, dipanggil, dan dibenarkan untuk mengambil bagian di dalam kehidupanabadi. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Tuhan, terimakasih atas keterpilihan kami dan kuatkanlah selalu kesetiaan kami kepada-Mu.Bapa kami yang ada di Surga ... Dalam nama Bapa ...

Ephesians 2: 19-22; Rs psalm 19: 2-3.4-5; Luke 6: 12-19.WAR AGAINST TERROR Our meditation todayis entitled: War Against Terror. Our world today and all mankind know andunderstand about terrorism. Particularly in Indonesia, the threat of terrorismis insistent and evident, and it happens almost every year. One person or groupof terror can be overcome by the government and law enforcers, but anotherperson or group comes in. The threat is so serious that the government and allthe citizens have to work together to fight it. Our Church has obligationto fight against terrorism today with much greater spiritual power, done by allher members. The Church does this with Jesus. He had done it in His publicservice in the world. On one special occasion he chose Simon the Zealot andJudas, along with ten other apostles to form an elite community of strong andfaithful men to be his “army”. Today the whole Church celebrates the feast ofthe apostles Simon and Judas who are from this community. The word"Zealot" means terrorist. This Simon came from a rebel group whofought against the Roman colonials. They were known by the name Zealots, in theGreek language named Kana'im, that means the jealousy of God. They did not wanttheir God to be disturbed by other groups. Jesus must choose strong and trustedpeople to be with Him in the war against all forms of evil in this world. Those12 apostles are the strong pillars for the foundation of the Church. Before meeting Jesus,Saint Paul often acted like a terrorist. According to the Acts of the Apostles,he pursued, arrested and sent to prison men and women who followed Christ. Heeven said this: I really acted wildly burning with anger towards Christians,whom I chased even to cities in foreign lands (Acts 26,11). The group thatspreads terror, nowadays known as the radicals, brings fear all over the world.Are we sure that Jesus has the power to change the hardest hearts of theterrorists? Jesus changed Saint Simon and Saint Paul, and to this day Heremains the same God who can change the hearts of terrorists. They not onlychanged their hearts and direction of life, but they also are made so useful asthe foundation for the building up of the Church, the house and community ofGod's people where every and all believers included. Secara khusus, di Indonesia ancaman teror ini bertubi-tubi, dandari tahun ke tahun. Satu orang atau kelompok dapat diatasi pemerintah dan parapenegak hukum, namun oknum atau kelompok lain muncul kembali. Ancamannya begituserius sehingga pemerintah dan segenap masyarakat berusaha bekerja sama untukmemeranginya. Gereja kita wajib berperang melawan terorisme di dunia inidengan kekuatan rohani yang masif, yaitu seluruh umat manusia. Gereja melakukanini bersama Yesus. Ia telah melakukan itu dalam pelayanan publik-Nya di dunia.Pada satu peristiwa khusus Ia memilih Simon orang Zelot dan Judas, bersamakesepuluh rasul lainnya untuk membentuk sebuah pasukan inti. Pada hari iniseluruh Gereja merayakan pesta rasul Simon dan Yudas.  Kata “Zelot” mengandung arti teroris. Simon ini berasaldari kaum pemberontak yang melawan penjajah Romawi yang bernama kaum Zelot,yang dalam bahasa Yahudi Kana'im, yaitupencemburu dari Allah. Mereka tak mau Allah mereka diganggu kelompok lain.Yesus harus memilih orang-orang kuat dan terpercaya supaya mampu bersama Diamelawan semua bentuk kejahatan di dunia ini.  Sebelum bertemu Yesus, Santo Paulus sering bertindakseperti seorang teroris. Menurut Kisah Para Rasul ia mengejar, menangkap danmemasukkan ke penjara laki-laki dan perempuan pengikut Kristus. Dia bahkanmengatakan begini: Saya sungguh bertindak liar dengan terbakar oleh kemarahanterhadap orang-orang Kristen, yang saya kejar bahkan sampai ke kota-kota ditanah asing (Kis 26,11).  Kelompok yang menebar teror, saat ini yang dikenal sebagaikaum radikalis, mendatangkan ketakutan di seluruh dunia. Yakinkah kita kalauYesus mampu mengubah hati para teroris yang paling keras? Yesus mengubah SantoSimon dan Santo Paulus, dan sampai detik ini Ia tetap sama sebagai Tuhan yangdapat mengubah hati para teroris. Mereka tidak hanya diubah hati dan arahhidupnya, bahkan mereka dijadikan dasar bangunan Gereja, kediaman Allah danrumah orang-orang beriman. Santo Simon, Yudas dan Paulus kini adalah parajenderal dalam Kerajaan Allah, dalam melindungi Gereja kita. Yesus mengatasi para teroris dengan kasih. Kita semuamemakai kasih yang sama untuk mengatasi teror-teror kejahatan dan kegelapan didalam komunitas beriman kita. Tetapi kita harus bersama Kristus. Tanpa denganDia, kita tak akan mampu. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Yesus guru yang baikdan bijaksana, jadikanlah kami serdadu-serdadu-Mu untuk berani dan berkorbanmengalahkan kejahatan yang mengancam Gereja-Mu. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putradan Roh Kudus ... Romans 8: 12-17; Rs psalm 68: 2.4.6-7ab.20-21; Luke 13: 10-17.WE ARE DEBTORS TO THE SPIRIT, NOT THE FLESH Our meditation today is entitled: We are Debtors tothe Spirit, not the Flesh. The apostle Paul in his letter to the Church in Romeaffirms that "we are indebted, not to the flesh, to live according to theflesh" (Romans 8:12). This statement reminds us that the life of believersis no longer controlled by mortal worldly desires, but by the life-givingSpirit of God. Flesh here symbolizes human nature that is selfish, greedy,lustful, and seeks self-satisfaction. Meanwhile, the Spirit moves us to live inlove, forgiveness, and life-giving service to others. Living according to the flesh does seem encouraging.The world offers luxury, honor, and power that seem to promise happiness.However, saint Paul insists that all this will lead people to a spiritualdeath. There are so many people in the world today who choose to live accordingto the flesh. When a man lives without the Spirit of God, his heartbecomes empty and disoriented. He may seem successful in the eyes of the world,but his soul is shackled by greed and pride. This is what happened to thePharisees and scribes in Jesus' day. They diligently obeyed the law outwardly,but their hearts were far from God. They were after human praise, not realtruth of faith. Jesus firmly rebuked them for their hypocriticallifestyle. They showed righteousness in public, but their hearts were hard andmerciless. In this regard, Jesus shows that living according to the flesh isnot only a matter of moral sin, but also an attitude of human soul that resiststhe guidance of the Spirit. A person who lives according to the flesh preferspower to service, honor to humility, outward order to life-giving love. On the contrary, living according to the Spirit meansopening one's heart to God's renewing work. The Holy Spirit transforms us fromwithin: from pride to humility, from hatred to love, from fear to courage to dogood. Living according to the Spirit makes us realize that everything we haveis not for ourselves, but for building a life together. Saint Paul affirms that"the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will also bring your mortalbodies to life." Living in the Spirit is a life of hope, even in the midstof the suffering and uncertainty of the world. We should choose to live according to the Spirit, notthe flesh. The world may be tempted by false promises, but God's Spirit givestrue joy that is unshakable.  Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O Holy God, may wepersevere in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and dare to resist the temptationsof the spirit of living according to the flesh. Hail Mary, full of grace... Rasul Paulus dalam suratnyakepada jemaat di Roma menegaskan bahwa “kita berhutang, bukan kepada daginguntuk hidup menurut daging” (Roma 8:12). Pernyataan ini mengingatkan kita bahwahidup orang beriman tidak lagi dikendalikan oleh keinginan duniawi yang fana,tetapi oleh Roh Allah yang memberi kehidupan. Daging di sini melambangkan sifatmanusia yang egois, tamak, penuh hawa nafsu, dan mencari kepuasan diri semata.Sedangkan Roh menggerakkan kita untuk hidup dalam kasih, pengampunan, danpelayanan yang memberi hidup bagi sesama. Hidup menurut daging memang tampak menggiurkan. Duniamenawarkan kemewahan, kehormatan, dan kekuasaan yang seolah menjanjikankebahagiaan. Namun, Paulus menegaskan bahwa semua itu hanyalah jalan menujukematian rohani. Banyak sekali orang di dunia saat ini yang memilih hidupmenurut daging. Ketika manusia hidup tanpa Roh Allah, hatinya menjadihampa dan kehilangan arah. Ia mungkin tampak berhasil di mata dunia, tetapijiwanya terbelenggu oleh keserakahan dan kesombongan. Inilah yang terjadi padakaum Farisi dan ahli Taurat di zaman Yesus. Mereka tekun mematuhi hukum secaralahiriah, tetapi hatinya jauh dari Allah. Mereka mencari pujian manusia, bukankebenaran yang sejati. Yesus dengan tegas menegur mereka karena gaya hidupmereka yang munafik. Mereka memperlihatkan kesalehan di depan umum, tetapihatinya keras dan tidak berbelas kasih. Dalam hal ini, Yesus menunjukkan bahwahidup menurut daging bukan hanya soal dosa moral, melainkan juga sikap batinyang menolak bimbingan Roh. Orang yang hidup menurut daging lebih memilihkekuasaan daripada pelayanan, penghormatan daripada kerendahan hati, aturanlahiriah daripada kasih yang menghidupkan. Sebaliknya, hidup menurut Roh berarti membuka hatiterhadap karya Allah yang memperbarui. Roh Kudus mengubah kita dari dalam: darikebanggaan menjadi kerendahan, dari kebencian menjadi kasih, dari ketakutanmenjadi keberanian untuk berbuat baik. Hidup menurut Roh membuat kita sadarbahwa segala yang kita miliki bukan untuk diri sendiri, melainkan untukmembangun kehidupan bersama. Paulus menegaskan bahwa “Roh yang membangkitkanYesus dari antara orang mati akan menghidupkan juga tubuhmu yang fana itu.” Hidupdalam Roh adalah hidup yang penuh harapan, bahkan di tengah penderitaan danketidakpastian dunia. Hendaknya kita memilih untuk hidup menurut Roh, bukandaging. Dunia mungkin menggoda dengan janji semu, tetapi Roh Allah memberisukacita sejati yang tidak tergoyahkan.  Marilah kita berdoa. Therewas a young man once shared his story of meeting an old friend who was quite closeto him. To this old friend, a girl, he hoped to really opened a new page oflove. Since he was in serious trouble with his current girlfriend, that meetingindeed served to fill up his empty heart. They always came to the church and seenby many as if intending to pray or to participate in the celebration of theholy Masses. Yet in fact, they just wanted to date all the time. The churchonly became the safe place for them to date and escape from their parents'scontrol.  Today our liturgicalreadings give us inspiration about two important virtues in prayer. Theimportance of prayer is something that cannot be taken for granted because it showsthe intention of believers to pray, to make them worthy before God or not. Godsees the intention of our hearts before we want to pray. That intention is in ourminds and purpose of our hearts. The first is the virtueof availability. A person who has awareness, willingness, preparation of selfis the one who needs to pray. His time for God through prayer is irreplaceable.The need for spiritual growth is realized through a constant and ferventprayer. Willingness to worship God through daily prayers and reception of theSacraments becomes part of his life-style. He knows that he needs God, so heprepares himself bodily and spiritually to have a meaningful encounter withGod. The persons of thePharisee and tax collector in today's Gospel reading represent how believershave the opportunity to pray, where they can meet and dialogue with God. We asbelievers have this virtue in common. Faith education in the families, schoolsand churches plays a very important role to make people faithful and devoutedto God. Whereas those who are lazy, boring and avoiding prayer or worship areconsidered the people of weak faith. The second is the virtueof humility. In prayer, the very fundamental condition that believers must obeyis their being humans who come to dialogue with the almighty God, the perfectbeing. The knowledge of God is perfect, therefore, He knows and seeseverything. We are sinners, poor, ordinary people who depend all things on God.If we communicate with God only to affirm our righteousness and even perfectaction just like God himself, it is actually not prayer but a sharing of experiences.The Pharisees did pray in this manner. When we commit to praywith humility, we should follow the tax collector's way who is so sincere abouthimself as a sinner, saint Paul who is grateful to carry out his task to theend, and the poor-ones whose prayers can penetrate the clouds, as our firstreading says. If we humans pray truly in our real situation of life, then Godpleases to be with us and gives what we ask for. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Seorang pemudabercerita, ia bertemu seorang teman lamanya yang baru saja ditinggal pacarnya.Pertemuan itu baginya sungguh membuka lembaran cinta yang baru. Ia sedangbermasalah serius dengan pacarnya sendiri, sehingga teman lama itu menjadipengisi hatinya yang sedang kosong. Mereka selalu berada di gereja.Kelihatannya mereka berniat berdoa, tetapi kenyataannya mereka hanya inginberpacaran sepanjang waktu. Gereja menjadi tempat nyaman untuk memadu kasih.  Pada hari ini bacaan-bacaanliturgis memberikan kita inspirasi tentang dua keutamaan yang penting dalamberdoa. Keutamaan dalam berdoa sangat penting karena ia menjelaskan betapapentingnya niat orang dalam berdoa, maka orang itu berkenan kepada Tuhan atautidak. Tuhan melihat sendiri niat hati kita sejak sebelum kita dapat berdoasecara nyata. Niat itu ada di dalam pikiran dan maksud hati kita. Keutamaan pertama ialahkesiap-sediaan. Seorang yang memiliki kesadaran, kemauan, persiapan diri,adalah dia yang memiliki kesiap-sediaan untuk berdoa. Waktu untuk Tuhan tidaktergantikan. Kemauan untuk beribadah menjadi ciri kepribadiannya. Ia tahu bahwaia membutuhkan Tuhan, maka ia menyiapkan fisik dan mentalnya sedemikian rupa untukberdoa dengan baik.  Profil orang Farisi dan pemungutcukai di dalam Injil menunjukkan bagaimana orang-orang beriman memilikikesempatan untuk berdoa sehingga mereka dapat berjumpa dan berdialog denganTuhan. Ini adalah keutamaan kita semua orang beriman. Pendidikan iman di dalamkeluarga, sekolah dan Gereja mempunyai peran yang salah satunya ialah membuatseorang beriman tekun dan taat beribadah. Orang yang malas, bosan danmenghindari doa atau ibadat dianggap kurang beriman. Keutamaan kedua ialah kerendahanhati. Prinsip dalam berdoa yang sangat fundamental ialah keberadaan kitasebagai manusia, yang berdialog dengan Tuhan maha kuasa di tempat-Nya yangtertinggi. Ia tahu segala sesuatu. Diri kita adalah pendosa, orang miskin,orang yang berterus terang, dan orang yang bergantung pada-Nya. Jika kitaberhadapan dengan Tuhan hanya menonjolkan diri, bahkan berlaku seperti Tuhanyang sempurna, itu sebenarnya bukan doa, tetapi sharing pengalaman. OrangFarisi di dalam doanya jelas sekali berbuat demikian. Di dalam berdoa yang rendah hati,kita hendaknya meneladani si pemungut cukai yang berterus terang tentangdirinya sebagai pendosa, santo Paulus yang bersyukur telah menunaikan tugasnyasampai tuntas, dan orang miskin-tertindas yang doa-doanya menembusi awan, yangdisebut oleh kitab Putera Sirakh. Jika kita berdoa sungguh sebagai manusia yangtahu diri, maka Tuhan Allah sangat berkenan kepada kita dan memberikan apa yangkita minta. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... At a Catholic school, every student is givena school bag in mixed white and black. On both sides it is written the samesentence that says: "Don't forget to pass exams." This reminds everystudent all the times both at home and at school, that their goal of schoolingis to pass their exams and eventually become good and useful persons. Theschool bag is like an angel that always attracts their attention and remindsthem of the important things regarding study. In relation with oursalvation after death, the reminder that must be written in our hearts, mindsand bodies must be the following: Do not forget to repent. For every believer,repentance is an absolute condition for salvation and a happy life forever. Asbelievers, we understand the act of repentance. We are always reminded that torepent is to change ourselves from being tortured because of sins, to become aperson who is free from sins and be forgiven the the merciful God. To those who do notyet know Christ and who choose to oppose Him, repentance also the importantreminder to them. In the end, everyone who was created by God must find himselfor herself worthy and pure to live in God's Kingdom. Worthiness is of coursecharacterized by experiences of change or repentance. The Lord Jesus is dealingwith people who do not believe and who oppose Him. Then He resolutelydemanded that they must repent from their evil and cruel behavior towards theirneighbours. They must be loving, gentle, and peace-oriented people. Bothbelievers and non-believers, the message of repentance is a call that touchesthe soul, because change must happen in human mental and soul. It can evenhappen, the believers can become more sinfull than those of non-believers. Therefore,this call can be a turning point for them to embrace a new life which is to walkin the way to the Lord. The reminder torepent is so important beside for our daily lives, also in urgent moment whensomeone is dying. In other words, in facing the moment of near death in thisworld, the appeal: "Do not forget to repent" is very fundamental.This is very useful because someone who dies, he or she must bring himself assomeone who has been forgiven from some or all of his or her sins. Then he orshe will be very pleased to God, the just Judge. But if he or she has notconverted and repented, then the fatal consequences will befall him or her.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O most loving Jesus, open our hearts to easily forgive our fellow brothersand sisters who have sinned against us. Make us forgiving persons like Yourself.Our Father who art in heaven ... Di sekolah itu, setiap siswa diberikan satu tas sekolah berwarnacampur hitam dan putih. Pada kedua sisinya ditulis dengan kalimat yang sama,yaitu: "Jangan sampai tidak lulus ujian." Setiap siswa dengan sendiridiingatkan baik di rumah maupun di sekolah, bahwa tujuan mereka belajar ialahlulus ujian dan akhirnya kelak menjadi orang-orang yang baik dan berguna. Tassekolah itu seperti malaikat yang senantiasa menarik perhatian dan yang mengingatkanmereka. Untuk hal terkait keselamatan hidup kita setelah kematian,peringatan yang mesti tertulis di dalam hati, pikiran, dan tubuh kita ialah:Jangan sampai kita tidak bertobat. Bagi setiap orang beriman, pertobatanmerupakan syarat mutlak untuk selamat dan hidup bahagia selamanya. Sebagaiorang beriman, kita mengerti tindakan bertobat. Kita diingatkan selalu bahwabertobat ialah mengubah diri dari keadaan tersiksa karena dosa-dosa, menjadipribadi yang terlepas dari dosa-dosa dan mendapatkan pengampunan dari Tuhan. Kepada orang-orang yang belum mengenal Kristus dan yangmemilih berlawanan dengan-Nya, pertobatan juga tetap penting bagi mereka. Padaakhirnya semua orang yang diciptakan Allah, harus menemukan dirinya dibuatlayak dan pantas untuk hidup di dalam Tuhan. Kepantasan itu tentu saja ditandaidengan pengalaman perubahan atau pertobatan. Tuhan Yesus sedang berhadapandengan orang-orang yang belum beriman dan yang menentang Dia.  Lalu Ia dengan tegas menuntut mereka untuk bertobat dariperilaku mereka yang jahat dan kejam terhadap sesamanya. Mereka harus menjadiorang-orang yang penuh kasih, lemah lembut, dan cinta damai. Baik yang berimanmaupun yang belum beriman, pesan pertobatan merupakan panggilan yang menyentuhjiwa, karena yang hendak diubah adalah mental dan jiwanya. Bahkan dapatterjadi, orang-orang yang sudah beriman justru berbuat lebih jahat dari padayang belum beriman. Maka panggilan ini dapat menjadi titik balik bagi merekauntuk menciptakan hidupnya yang baru, yang berjalan di jalan Tuhan. Peringatan untuk bertobat sangat penting, selain untukkehidupan sehari-hari, namun juga sangat mendesak ketika seseorang berada didalam saat-saat dipanggil oleh Tuhan dari dunia ini. Dengan kata lain,menjelang kematian di dunia ini, seruan: "Jangan sampai tidakbertobat" ini menjadi sangat fundamental. Hal ini sangat berguna karenaseseorang yang meninggal dunia, ia harus membawa dirinya sebagai seorang yangsudah diampuni sebagian atau seluruh dosanya. Maka Ia akan sangat berkenan bagiTuhan, sang pengadil. Tetapi jika ia belum atau tidak bertobat, maka akibatfatal akan menimpanya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Yesus, bukakanlahhati kami untuk dengan mudah mengampuni sesama yang bersalah kepada kami.Jadikanlah kami pengampun seperti diri-Mu. Bapa kami yang ada di surga ...Dalam nama Bapa ...

We say this "time tests" to signifythe time that serves to make sure if one's life is pleasing to God or viceversa. There was a family experiencing a crisis in their economy up to thepoint of the lowest situation that forced the husband, wife and their twochildren must reflect, evaluate themselves to find a way out. When times oftrials or difficulties and suffering come, they lead us to see that time istesting us. These are the examples of lessons that can teach us and call ourattention, and we must see this as the moment to change. Saint Paul sees thereis a sign of time that people in Rome and all of us today face, about honor andworship of the body that is inevitable in this world. Worldly life orientationlike this will torture the dynamism of people's mind and soul toward God. So theapostle Paul wanted that he himself must terminate all allurements of his ownbody, so that his  mind and soul would justfocus on God. Worship and enjoymentof the body are commonly done today in the life of today's society. This commonstyle manifests itself in materialism and the gratification of lust. We canshow several examples here. There was a student misused his parents' money for hisstudy, but only for eating, drinking, traveling and having fun with hisfriends. A housewife spent money of the family not for needs of the house butonly for personal pleasure and enjoyment. They represent the various human actssatisfy their bodily needs. Our era of materialism and hedonism today alreadymakes everything so easy for us to acquire any time when we need to fulfill theneed of our bodies. However, we must saythe truth that our bodies have been consecrated by divine election to be thesons and daughters of the heavenly Father. God choose to stay in our bodies. Leus not waste our energies and times making our own bodies the desecrateddwelling places to God to dwell. We need to take care and keep purifying ourown bodies, because in a healthy and worthy body, there is a soul that isradiant and open to God. Saint Paul asks us not to spoil our bodies with anykind of pleasures of the world. We must maintain responsibly its purity becauseGod choose to live in it. Let our attentionshould not be excessive to the body, to the extent that the soul is abandoned.Jesus asks that our souls must be given more attention, because the soul willstand before the final judgment to give the person's life account. Roma 7: 18-25a; Mazmur tg 119: 66.68.76.77.93.94; Lukas 12: 54-59.WAKTU MENGUJI Tema renungan kita pada hari ini ialah: Waktu Menguji.Ungkapan lain dari "waktu menguji" ialah tanda-tanda zaman yangberperan untuk memastikan kita berada di dalam suasana apakah berkenan kepadaTuhan atau sebaliknya tidak berkenan kepada-Nya. Saat-saat keadaan ekonomikeluarga yang sedang krisis dan cenderung menuju ke titik terendah, membuatsuami-isteri dan kedua anaknya  harusmerenung, mengevaluasi diri, dan mencari jalan keluarnya. Saat-saat cobaan ataukesulitan dan penderitaan, sering kita anggap sebagai waktu yang menguji danmenjadi pelajaran penting bagi kita untuk suatu perubahan.  Santo Paulus menangkap sebuah tanda zaman yang terjadipada orang-orang di Roma dan pada kita semua, bahwa pengutamaan dan pemujaanterhadap tubuh tidak bisa dielakkan di dalam dunia ini.  Semangat duniawi seperti ini akan sangatmenyiksa gerakan pikiran dan jiwa yang berhaluan lurus kepada Tuhan. MakaPaulus ingin mematikan saja seluruh bagian tubuh, demi memberikan pikiran danjiwanya fokus saja kepa  da Tuhan. Metodidisiplin terhadap tubuh ini disebut juga matiraga. Tanda pengutamaan dan kenikmatan tubuh merupakan situasiumum dalam hidup kita saat ini. Turunannya berwujud pada materialisme danpemuasan nafsu. Seorang mahasiswa tidak memakai uang pemberian orang tua untukkepentingan kuliahnya, tetapi hanya untuk makan, minum, jalan-jalan danbersenang-senang bersama teman-temannya. Uang belanja keluarga dipakai oleh iburumah tangga bukan untuk kebutuhan keluarga, tetapi hanya untuk kesenangan dankenikmatan pribadi. Ini adalah contoh konkret kenikmatan tubuh semata. Zamanmaterialisme dan hedonisme saat ini sudah sangat memudahkan kita untukmendapatkan barang yang setiap saat kita butuhkan.    Padahal tubuh kita dikonsekrasikan Tuhan melaluiketerpilihan kita masing-masing sebagai putra dan putri-Nya melalui pembaptisan.Tuhan memilih untuk tinggal di dalam tubuh kita. Jangan buang-buang energi danwaktu untuk membuat tubuh sendiri menjadi tempat asing bagi Tuhan. Tetapi kitaperlu menjaga dan merawat tubuh sendiri, karena di dalam tubuh yang sehat danpositif, ada jiwa yang berseri dan terbuka kepada Tuhan. Rasul Paulus meminta,agar kita tidak memanjakan tubuh dengan kenikmatan duniawi. Kita harus lebihmemilih untuk memeliharanya secara bertanggung jawab, karena Tuhan memilihuntuk tinggal di dalamnya. Hendaknya perhatian kepada tubuh tidak berlebihan dankepada jiwa menjadi berkurang. Yesus meminta supaya jiwa kita yang harusdiberikan perhatian lebih, karena dia yang akan berdiri di hadapan pengadilanterakhir untuk mempertanggung jawabkan hidup kita. Jiwa manusia yang bebas dariikatan duniawi akan membawa pribadi yang bersangkutan tanpa halangan kepadaTuhan.  Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Tuhan mahakuasa,tinggallah selalu di dalam diri kami, sehingga hati kami senantiasa mengalamisuka cita dan damai sejahtera. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putra dan Roh Kudus ...Dalam nama Bapa ...

There is a soccer teamthat has done a series of preparation, apparently could not provide theexpected results. They lost three times consecutively. The reason is that thecoach was not serious. He did not act firmly when there is indisciplinarybehavior among his players. Finally, the management decided to replace him witha new coach who is considered more experienced and professional. The coach implementedhard exercises to every player. He figured out the highest target and demandedthat the players had a high motivation to achieve it. The coach's words andactions were decisive and tend to be very hard, resulting fear, nervousness,tremble and giving up from the players. In general, we are also in this samesituation. When the method of education and formation is firm and verydemanding in discipline, people prefer to give up and stop. We read in Gospel aboutsome of Jesus' disciples could not stand and chose to leave Him. The reason isbecause Jesus' words are considered very hard to bear. For them Jesus is a hardperson. But Peter represented his colleagues to choose to stay and be faithful,through his famous statement: to whom else should we go, Lord? We also choose tostay with Peter. The proof is that, we have been with our faith until now: Towhom else should we go? We can't go to another heart! This radical choice wasalso made by the Romans in the time of Saint Paul. They resolved to abandontheir old lifestyle, which had prostituted their bodies and souls because ofall pleasures of this world. They chose life, not death. They embraced a newlife of freedom as sons and daugters of God. But this choice isnot without many risks. It is said so clearly, Jesus Christ is like a fire thatcannot be extinguished. Fire becomes a light that dispels the darkness, butalso burns the parts that are not useful or not for our need. It means thatthose who are not in line with God will disappear, then separating those whoare with God. This is where the separation occurs between humans, eventragically happens also in our families. Our families todaymay be polarized between faithful members of the Church who are active andinvolved in the spiritual life of following Jesus Christ responsibly, and thosewho are passive, dry, away from the Church, and even those whose faith isdying. This separation of life must be eliminated, and this is our common dutyto do together. But we must continue to use Jesus as the true fire on thisearth. Let's pray. In the name of the Father...O heavenly Father, look and bless us who are fragile in spirit to endure ourfidelity to You. Our fragile family and community desperately need Yourintervention.
