Micah 7: 14-15.18-20; Rs psalm 85: 2-4.5-6.7-8; Matthew 12: 46-50.THE STAFF OF GOD'S POWER Our meditation today has the theme: The Staff of God'sPower. In many political traditions a staff or stick is used as a symbol ofpower. We remember Moses who used a staff to show that the power of God was atwork in him, when he was in his mission to lead the people of God to where theLord led them. Kings and presidents of various countries also use staff whichis the symbol of the power they hold. In the Church, the Pope and Bishops havealso staff with the similar meaning. The staff that is made of wood or metal refers to thepower or authority of the person who uses it. Even a stick of wood which isused by father or mother at home is enough to give us understanding that ifchildren violate the rules, they will be subjected to punishment be beaten withthe stick. Seeing what this staff or stick signifies, now we can furtherunderstand why  in the scriptures Godalways reveals His power through the symbolic staff being used by His chosenfigures who had so important duty to do. Today we listen to the Lord who says through theprophecy of Micah in the first reading, that He Himself shepherded His peoplewith His staff. Jesus the good shepherd also carried out the pastoral works byusing the high priest's staff, which until now has been symbolized by the Popeand Bishops. With that staff, the duty as leader and shepherd have itslegitimacy and strength to demand obedience and reliance from people who aresubjected to it. The staff of God has its powerful function in thepurification and deliverance of men and women believers from the power ofdarkness and sin. Satan, the ruler of darkness, when confronted with the powerof God that is symbolized by the staff, he will fall trembling and fear. Thatwas evident in every action of Jesus who was always present through words anddeeds, which instantly frightened the Satan who asked not to be tortured. Thisis the role of to the staff of God, that is to cast all our sins and to bethrown into the sea, says the prophet Micah. So we must look at the staff when it is shown to us insuch manner being held by the person in power, it is made as a support when westand, or when it is used to emphasize on something so important. Jesus referredto all the power that existed in Him, when He spoke that His true disciples andapostles were indeed His mother and His brothers. This statement of Jesussurely contains the teaching that is full with authority. This teaching isabout to carry out God's will which is to be the main task of every follower ofChrist. The staff of Jesus until now is in the hands of the Pope and the Bishopsof the Church. We must listen and follow our Holy Father and our Bishop.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, may our fidelity and obedience tothe Church always be strong and lasting especially through our obedience to theHoly Father and Bishop. Mikha 7: 14-15.18-20; Mazmur tg 85: 2-4.5-6.7-8; Matius 12: 49-50.TONGKAT KUASA TUHAN         Renungan kita pada hari ini bertema: Tongkat Kuasa Tuhan. Tradisi dalambanyak budaya politik menjadikan tongkat sebagai simbol kekuasaan. Kitamengingat Musa memakai tongkat untuk menampilkan kuasa Allah yang bekerja dalamdirinya untuk memimpin bangsa dan umat Allah. Para raja dan presidennegara-negara juga memakai tongkat dengan makna simbolik kekuasaan yang merekamiliki. Di dalam Gereja, tongkat uskup juga memiliki makna serupa.  Tongkat yang terbuat dari bahan entah kayu entah logam sangat melekatdengan kekuasaan atau otoritas orang yang memakainya. Bahkan rotan ataupotongan kayu lurus yang dipakai bapak atau ibu di rumah cukup memberikanpemahaman bahwa jika anak-anak melanggar aturan hukumannya ialah pukulan dengankayu itu. Dalam semua pemandangan dengan tongkat ini, kita dapat mengerti lebihlanjut mengapa Tuhan selalu mengungkapkan di dalam kitab suci kuasa-Nya yangdisimbolkan dengan tongkat.  Ia berkata dalam nubuat Mikha dalam bacaan pertama hari ini bahwa Iamenggembalakan umat-Nya dengan tongkat-Nya. Yesus sang gembala yang baik jugamenjalankan tugas penggembalaan itu dengan memakai tongkat imam agung, yanghingga saat ini disimbolkan pada Paus dan para uskup. Dengan tongkat itu,tugas-tugas sebagai pemimpin dan gembala memiliki legitimasi dan kekuatan untukmendapatkan ketaatan atau kepatuhan dari orang-orang yang dipimpin. Tongkat kuasa Tuhan, memiliki fungsi untuk suatu pemurnian dan pembebasanmanusia dari kuasa kegelapan dan dosa. Setan dan penguasa kegelapan ketikaberhadapan dengan kuasa Allah yang dilambangkan dengan tongkat, ia menjadiketakutan. Itu terbukti dalam setiap tindakan Yesus yang selalu hadir melaluikata-kata dan hardikan, yang langsung membuat para setan menjadi takut danmemohon untuk tidak disiksa. Berkat tongkat kuasa Tuhan itu, segala dosa kitadapat dicampakkan ke dalam dasar laut, demikian kata nabi Mikha. Jadi kita mesti memandang tongkat saat ditunjukkan kepada kita apakah dalamposisi dipegang, dijadikan penopang pada saat berdiri, atau saat menunjukkandan menegaskan sesuatu dalam suatu proses pengajaran. Yesus menunjuk dengansegala kuasa yang ada pada-Nya, ketika Ia mengajarkan bahwa para murid danrasul sesungguhnya adalah ibu-Nya, dan saudara-saudara-Nya. Penegasan ituberisi suatu ajaran yang penuh kewibawaan dan prinsip. Ajaran itu ialah bahwamelaksanakan kehendak Allah merupakan tugas utama setiap pengikut Kristus.Tongkat kuasa Yesus itu sampai detik ini berada pada tangan Paus dan Uskup ditempat kita masing-masing. Kita harus mendengar dan mengikuti Bapa Suci danUskup kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Micah 6: 1-4.6-8; Rs psalm 50: 5-6.8-9.16bc.17.21.23; Matius 12: 38-42.UNFAITHFULNESS The theme for our meditation today is: Unfaithfulness.There was a man who got a job from the company to work outside the city forthree to six months. During this time he did not return to his home and family.Communication with his wife and children was done via online messages and videocalls. When he returned home after finishing the job, hefound out that almost everything in the house was normal and good, except forhis two beloved dogs who were no longer familiar with him. The two dogs reallyignored him, even though he wanted to play with them. His youngest son, eightyears old, said this to him: "The problem is that you haven't been closeand played with them, so they have become strangers to you." Infidelity happens in our relationship with oneanother is caused by many factors, and one of them is that people are not closeto each other, they do not communicate, there is no news shared and there is nosharing of attention between them. This also happens between us and the Lord.There is a long history about people who have been unfaithful to God which inthe end they must be subjected to the punishment imposed on them because oftheir infidelity. The Lord Jesus was sent by the Father into the world to bringthem back to faithfulness and true faith. The people of God, and especially theIsraelites, were expected to be the first to renew this broken relationship andto walk on the new way initiated by Jesus Christ. However they did not even want to know and acknowledgeJesus. They asked for signs that could help them to believe in Jesus Christ.This is what made Jesus gave them a very strong reaction. They openly opposedGod by rejecting and not recognizing that Jesus was sent by God whom theybelieved according to the faith of their fathers. This is a great sin ofunfaithfulness. They preferred such worldly things like money, position, fleshpleasure, social status, fame, then God alone and His teachings brought by Jesusof Nazareth was not their priority. According to Jesus Christ, this sin is asin against the Holy Spirit, and it will never be forgiven. The temptation to deny God by making Him not ourpriority in life is really very big. In general there are three greattemptations that threaten us any time and anywhere in this world namely money,power and flesh. The prophet Micah said that we need to be sincere aboutourselves: whether we can overcome the temptation or we are always overcome byit, the world around us is the witness. If we stay with God and let ourselvesto be guided by the Holy Spirit, we are the ones who overcome temptation. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Our almighty God, may Your Spirit help usto be faithful always in the way of Your Son Jesus Christ, and keep us from alltemptations that cause us to be away from Your path. Mikha 6: 1-4.6-8; Mazmur tg 50: 5-6.8-9.16bc.17.21.23; Matius 12: 38-42.KETIDAKSETIAAN Tema renungan kita pada hari ini ialah: Ketidaksetiaan. Ada seorang lelakimendapat tugas dari perusahaan untuk bekerja jauh dari rumah dan di luar kotaselama tiga sampai enam bulan. Selama waktu tersebut ia tidak kembali ke rumahdan keluarganya. Komunikasi dengan sang istri dan anak-anaknya tetap dilakukanmelalui pesan-pesan singkat online dan telepon video.  Pada saat ia kembali ke rumah setelah tugas tersebut, hampir semua keadaandi rumah normal dan baik, kecuali dua anjing kesayangannya yang sudah tidakakrab lagi dengannya. Kedua anjing sangat tidak menghiraukannya, meskipun iaingin bermain-main dengan mereka. Anak bungsunya yang berusia delapan tahunberkata kepadanya: "Masalahnya Bapak sudah lama tidak dekat dan bermaindengan mereka, maka mereka menjadi asing dengan Bapak."   Banyak faktor di dalam hidup kita yang menjadi penyebab sikap tidak setiadi antara kita, dan salah satunya ialah orang-orang tidak dekat satu sama lain,tidak berkomunikasi, tidak ada berita dan tidak ada jalinan perhatian di antaramereka. Hal ini juga terjadi antara manusia dengan Tuhan Allah. Ada sejarahpanjang dan banyak tentang manusia yang tidak setia dengan Tuhan yang berakibatpada hukuman dijatuhkan kepada mereka yang tidak setia. Tuhan Yesus diutus Bapake dalam dunia untuk mengembalikan mereka kepada kesetiaan dan iman yang benar.Umat beriman, dan khususnya Israel diharapkan sebagai yang pertama memperbaikihubungan yang telah rusak ini. Tetapi mereka malah tidak mau mengenal dan mengakui Yesus. Mereka memintatanda-tanda yang menurut mereka harus membuat mereka percaya. Ini yang membuatYesus melawan mereka dengan tegas. Mereka dengan terang-terangan melawan Tuhandengan menolak dan tidak mengakui bahwa Yesus adalah wujud Allah sendiri yangmereka percaya. Ini adalah dosa ketidaksetiaan yang amat besar. Mereka lebihmemilih materi, uang, posisi, kenikmatan daging, status sosial, ketenaran, laluTuhan dilupakan. Menurut Yesus sendiri, dosa ini adalah dosa melawan Roh Kudus,dan tidak dapat diampuni.  Godaan untuk menyangkal Tuhan dengan menjadikannya bukan utama danprioritas di dalam hidup kita sungguh sangat besar. Pada umumnya ada tigagodaan besar yang mengancam kita setiap saat dan di mana saja, yaitu harta,kekuasaan dan nafsu kedagingan.  Nubuatnabi Mikha mengatakan bahwa kita perlu tulus tentang diri kita: apakah kitadapat mengalahkan godaan itu atau sebaliknya kita yang selalu dikalahkanolehnya, karena dunia di sekeliling kita menjadi saksinya. Kalau kita tetapbersama Tuhan dan memberikan diri untuk dibimbing Roh Kudus, kita yangmengalahkan godaan. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Tuhan maha kuasa, semoga Roh-Mu membantu kami untuksenantiasa setia di jalan Putra-Mu Yesus Kristus, dan jauhkanlah kami darisegala godaan yang menyebabkan kami semakin jauh dari jalan-Mu. Wisdom 12: 13.16-19; Rs psalm 86: 5-6.9-10.15-16a; Romans 8: 26-27; Matthew 13: 24-30.THE ENEMY GIVES US OPPORTUNITY The theme for our meditation on this 16thSunday in Ordinary Time is: The Enemy Gives Us Opportunity. A high schoolstudent got praise and gifts from his parents for achieving best grades for allthe subjects in his study. This somehow surprised everyone in the familybecause they still remembered of his grades at the beginning of school thatwere far from expectation. He even got a number of red marks.                                              Why did he change so quickly with his studyachievements when he was in the second and third grade? Did he cheat duringexam in order to get satisfactory grades? These are the common questions thatwere always addressed to him. To those who asked these questions, the boyalways answered wisely, as he said: "Every friend of mine who gets bettergrades than me is my challenger in study, even I want to be better thanhim." This boy continued to follow this way until he finished high school. That teenager's experience is an example of a healthyand good competition. There is also unhealthy and bad competition, which goesthrough bad ways to pursue its goals. In every competition, each competingparty considers its counterpart as an enemy. There are enemies who becomefriends of competition and struggle, so we can be helped to achieve progressand success. Enemies of this quality are considered good enemies, because theygive us the opportunity to become better. But there are enemies who become deadly opponents, whoare moved by hatred, anger and jealousy. We are not helped to become better,instead we are led to a disaster and loss. We naturally and in following thecommon sense, want to have good enemies. God himself is in the category of ourgood enemies. We are sinners. Every time we realize ourselves as sinners, wemust be able to see God as our good enemy, who is patient with us and providesall the opportunities so that we can repent and ultimately return to Him. The parable of coexistence between the seed sower andhis enemy the weed sower, then between the seed that grows together withits  enemy the weed, is so clearly toteach us about the role of the enemy that helps us in this life. Our own familymembers, our friends and people whom we don't know can be our good enemies.Even if we cannot avoid the presence of the dangerous or deadly enemies, thiswas actually already experienced by the Lord Jesus himself and the martyrs whohave gone before us. Such enemies give us opportunities to drink the cup ofsuffering like Jesus Christ did, who is our Teacher and Savior. In this case,we should be grateful and pray for our enemies. Let'spray. Kebijaksanaan 12: 13.16-19; Mazmur tg 86: 5-6.9-10.15-16a; Roma 8: 26-27; Matius 13: 24-30.MUSUH MEMBERIKAN KITA KESEMPATAN Tema renungan kita pada hari Minggu Biasa ke-16 ini ialah: Musuh MemberikanKita Kesempatan. Seorang siswa SMA mendapatkan pujian dan hadiah dari orangtuanya karena mendapatkan nilai-nilai rapor yang bagus. Padahal semua di dalamkeluarga masih mengingat, bahwa nilai prestasinya di waktu permulaan sekolahjauh dari harapan. Ia bahkan memiliki sejumlah nilai merah. Mengapa ia berubah begitu cepat dengan prestasinya itu setelah naik kelasdua dan kelas tiga? Apakah ia bermain curang pada waktu ujian demi mendapatkannilai-nilai yang memuaskan? Ini adalah pertanyaan-pertanyaan umum yang selaluditujukan kepadanya. Kepada semua yang bertanya, siswa tersebut menjawab dengansangat bijaksana, katanya: "Setiap temanku mendapat nilai lebih baik daripada aku, aku selalu tertantang untuk menjadi seperti dia, bahkan harusmelebihi dia." Ia tetap mengikuti prinsip itu selama belajar di SMA. Pengalaman si remaja itu merupakan sebuah contoh kompetisi yang sehat. Adajuga kompetisi atau perlawanan yang tidak sehat, yang melalui cara yang tidakbaik dan dengan tujuan yang tidak baik pula. Di dalam setiap kompetisi,masing-masing pihak yang bersaing menganggap lawannya sebagai musuh. Ada musuhyang menjadi teman persaingan atau perjuangan, sehingga kita dapat dibantuuntuk meraih kemajuan dan kesuksesan. Musuh dalam kualitas seperti ini adalahmusuh yang baik, yang memberikan kita kesempatan untuk menjadi lebih baik.  Tetapi ada musuh yang menjadi lawan mematikan, yang karena didasari olehkebencian, marah dan iri hati, sehingga kita tidak mendapatkan bantuan untukmaju, tetapi sebaliknya kerugian dan bahkan kebinasaan. Secara kodrati danmengikuti akal sehat, kita ingin memiliki musuh yang baik. Tuhan sendiritermasuk dalam kategori musuh kita yang baik. Kita adalah orang-orang yangberdosa. Setiap menyadari diri sebagai orang berdosa, kita harus dapat melihatTuhan sebagai musuh kita yang baik, yang sabar terhadap kita dan menyediakansegala kesempatan supaya kita dapat bertobat dan kembali kepada-Nya. Perumpamaan tentang hidup berdampingan antara penabur benih dan musuhnyayaitu penabur lalang, kemudian antara benih yang tumbuh bersama dengan musuhnyalalang, sangat jelas mengajarkan kita tentang peran musuh yang membantu kita didalam hidup ini. Anggota keluarga sendiri, teman atau orang yang tidak kitakenal dapat menjadi musuh-musuh kita yang baik. Bahkan jika kita memang tidakdapat menghindari adanya musuh yang tidak baik atau yang mematikan, inimerupakan juga pengalaman Tuhan Yesus sendiri dan para martir yang sudahmendahului kita. Musuh yang demikian membuka kesempatan bagi kita untuk meminumpiala penderitaan seperti Yesus Kristus. Dalam hal ini, kita sepantasnyabersyukur dan mendoakan musuh-musuh kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Tuhan, berkatilah kami sehingga kami dapat hidup dalamkebenaran dan kebijaksanaan-Mu. Semoga kami menjadi sesama yang baik bagiorang-orang di sekitar kami. Bapa kami yang ada di surga ... Micah 2: 1-5; Rs psalm 10: 1-2.3-4.7-8.14; Matthew 12: 14-21.GOD IS NOTHIDING The theme forour meditation today is: God is Not Hiding. The school year for schools hasjust started this week. In general, teaching and learning activities take placein the middle of summer and dry which can have a negative impact on theactivities of students and teachers at school. They feel the hot air bothinside the classroom and outside and especially when they are in the playground. In remotevillages, students walk daily from home and school. They endure hot every dayand bathed in dust along the way. They easily get sick because of the hot anddry weather. There was a junior high school student writing on his social mediapage, in the form of a challenge addressed to God. He said: "This is aserious threat to life. God seems to be hiding and not near us to helpus." This student'sheartfelt expression represents the feelings of difficulty, anxiety, lack ofpatience and pessimism of many people in today's world. These feelings arenatural for us humans and there is nothing wrong with complaining or urging Godto help us. The event recounted in the Gospel about Jesus calming down the windand violent waves that nearly destroyed His disciples very clearly give usconfidence that God is not silent or hiding. Our Gospel readingtoday also illustrates how Jesus chose to avoid and hide, at a time when thethreat of enemies and evil was evident. There was a conspiracy that plottedevil against Jesus and all of His works, but Jesus got rid of himself. If aleader or chief chose to abandon his responsibilities, then we can understandthat his work, struggle or task has failed.  If our life inthis world only give attention to violence, evil and the threat of the enemy,we are the people who live in fear and this world is like a terrible jungle.God is indeed seen or understood to be in silent and hiding, but He actuallydwells in our hearts. God fills the spaces of understanding and conviction ofour faith. He works as the invisible Holy Spirit, but provides everything bothin word and deed, so that we become able to face our enemies. Our livesactually remain focus on the kingdom of God and the path we walk is the way ofJesus Christ. If until this moment we have this life in the midst of adifficult and bad situation while we continue to adapt ourselves to the newreality of life, this is the path that God has given us. He is actually with usand guides our lives. Let us pray. In thename of the Father ... O Lord, in your hands we put all our hopes and fates inlife. Mikha 2: 1-5; Mazmur tg 10: 1-2.3-4.7-8.14; Matius 12: 14-21.TUHAN SEDANG TIDAK BERSEMBUNYI Tema renungan kita pada hari ini ialah: Tuhan Sedang Tidak Bersembunyi.Tahun ajaran untuk sekolah-sekolah sampai tingkat menengah baru saja dimulaidalam minggu ini. Pada umumnya kegiatan belajar-mengajar berlangsung di tengahmusim panas dan kering yang dapat memberi dampak kurang baik dalam kegiatan paramurid dan guru di sekolah. Hawa yang panas mereka rasakan baik di dalam ruangankelas maupun di luar dan terlebih-lebih saat mereka bermain di lapangan. Di desa-desa pelosok, para murid berjalan kaki setiap hari dari rumah dansekolah. Mereka ditimpah panas terik dan bermandi debu di sepanjang jalan. Tidakjarang mereka sakit karena cuaca yang panas dan kering itu. Ada seorang siswaSMP menulis di halaman media sosialnya, berupa tantangan yang ditujukan kepadaTuhan. Ia berkata begini: "Ini adalah ancaman yang serius terhadapkehidupan. Tuhan sepertinya sedang sembunyi dan tidak berada di dekat kitauntuk menolong kita." Ungkapan hati siswa ini mewakili perasaan susah, kuatir, kurang sabar danpesimis banyak orang di dalam dunia saat ini. Perasaan-perasaan ini merupakansesuatu yang wajar bagi kita manusia dan tidak ada salahnya kalau kitamenyampaikan keluhan atau desakan kepada Tuhan untuk membantu kita. Peristiwayang dikisahkan di dalam Injil tentang Yesus meredakan angin topan dangelombang ganas yang hampir membinasakan para murid-Nya, sangat jelasmemberikan kita keyakinan bahwa Tuhan tidak diam atau bersembunyi. Injil kita pada hari ini juga menggambarkan bagaimana Yesus memilihmenghindar dan bersembunyi, pada saat ancaman musuh dan kejahatan ada di depanmata. Ada persekongkolan yang merancang kejahatan atas diri Yesus dan seluruhkarya-Nya, tetapi Yesus menyingkirkan diri. Jika seorang pimpinan atau kepalamemilih untuk meninggalkan tanggung jawabnya, maka kita dapat memahaminya bahwapekerjaan, perjuangan atau tugasnya gagal.  Sekiranya hidup kita di dunia ini hanya memusatkan perhatian kepadakekerasan, kejahatan dan ancaman musuh, kita adalah makhluk yang hidup dalamketakutan dan dunia ini adalah seperti rimba raya yang mengerikan. Tuhan memangdipandang atau dipahami berdiam dan bersembunyi, tetapi Ia sesungguhnya berdiamdi dalam hati kita. Ia mengisi ruang-ruang pemahaman dan keyakinan iman kita.Ia bekerja sebagai Roh Kudus yang tak kelihatan, tetapi menyediakan segalasesuatu baik sebagai kata maupun tindakan, sehingga kita menjadi mampu untukmenghadapi musuh-musuh. Hidup kita sebenarnya tetap berpusat pada kerajaan Allah dan jalan yangkita lalui ialah jalan Yesus Kristus. Jika sampai detik ini kita dapatmenikmati hidup di tengah suasana yang tidak baik dengan suatu cara penyesuaiandiri untuk kenyataan hidup yang baru, ini merupakan jalan yang diberikan Tuhankepada kita. Ia sesungguhnya berada bersama kita dan membimbing hidup kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Tuhan, di dalam tanganmu kami menaruh segala harapan dannasib hidup kami. Isaiah 38: 1-6.21-22.7-8; Rs psalm: Is 38: 10.11.12abc.16; Matthew 12: 1-8.BETWEEN COMPASSION AND SACRIFICIAL OFFERRING  The theme for our meditation today is: BetweenCompassion and Sacrificial Offering. There are many Catholics who no longer goto the confession. This is represented by a young man who once spoke with hisparish priest, that he himself and his friends do not consider it important tomake confession through a Catholic priest. The young man has his own reason,that a direct confession of sins to God is sufficient and it is secure in termsof each person privacy. Confession of sins through a priest does not make themany good sense. The confession of sins is not just an act of prayingto God to reveal the sins committed and to ask forgiveness. Its main point isan act of reconciliation and repentance that a penitent should do. Prayer forforgiveness is not a sacrament of reconciliation and it cannot replace it. Thisprayer is the same as all kinds of offering sacrifices that the believersnormally do, namely to give something as the sign of our faith and love forGod. This is the same as giving something to our loved ones to respect andplease them. An offering of sacrifice is solely a human act, so itis very dependent on the free will, choice or taste of each person. Oftencertain offerings are arranged or institutionalized in order to meet the wishesof the authorities or leaders, therefore, the rules are made to keep an orderof observance. For example, there were some amount of money to be submitted,namely one tenth of monthly income. Burnt offerings and animals slaughteredmust be counted all and the condition of those animals should be unblemishedand many other items of norm. The Lord Jesus Christ came to the world and he hadauthority to replace all the existing rules with His own self-offeringsacrifice. What the Lord Jesus had made was the work of the almighty God forall of us, and this work is not actually the offerings to praise or honorsomebody but a merciful love or an act of compassion. God loves us bysacrificing Himself. God is all merciful and full of love, therefore, He gaveHis own Son for our salvation. The action of Jesus in His merciful love andcompassion is to save the world and us from the slavery of sin and death. The Lord's merciful love and our obligation topractice this in our daily lives is an act of worship that is superior to theSabbath observance and other offering sacrifices, when the call for salvationof mankind requires. This is what Jesus wanted to correct, when mercy orcompassion was despised or even abolished, while offering sacrifices andsabbath observance were strictly obeyed. For us believers, offering sacrificesand worships are also needed for our expression of faith. However, when mercyor compassion requires, we cannot replace it by merely offering prayers andsacrifices. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Strengthen and fill us with Your power, OGod, so that we can witness Your truth through merciful love and compassionthat we do in the light of faith we profess. Hal initerwakili oleh seorang pemuda yang berbicara dengan pastor parokinya, bahwa iasendiri dan teman-teman tidak menganggap penting untuk melakukan pengakuan dosakepada seorang imam Katolik. Pemuda itu memberikan alasannya, bahwa pengakuandosa langsung kepada Tuhan sudah cukup dan terjamin aman. Pengakuan dosamelalui imam justru tidak masuk di akalnya. Pengakuan dosa merupakan suatu perbuatan yang bukan sekedar berdoa kepadaTuhan untuk menyampaikan dosa-dosa dan meminta pengampunan, tetapi yang menjadiintinya ialah terjadi rekonsiliasi dan pertobatan. Doa mohon pengampunan itubukan sebuah sakramen tobat. Doa ini sama dengan semua jenis persembahan yangkita lakukan, yaitu memberikan sesuatu sebagai bukti iman dan kasih kita kepadaTuhan. Ini sama dengan memberikan sesuatu kepada orang yang kita kasihi untukmenghormati dan menyenangkannya.  Persembahan itu semata-mata perbuatan manusia, maka sangat bergantung padakehendak bebas, pilihan atau selera masing-masing orang. Sering persembahan itudiatur atau dilembagakan demi memenuhi keinginan pihak penguasa atau parapemimpin, maka dibuatlah aturannya. Ada jumlah yang mesti dipenuhi, misalnyaderma harus sepersepuluh dari penghasilan. Korban bakaran dan sembelihan harusberjumlah sekian dan kondisi hewan persembahan itu cacat atau tidak dansebagainya.  Tuhan Yesus Kristus menggantikan semuanya itu dengan persembahan diri-Nyasendiri. Yang dibuat oleh Tuhan ini adalah perbuatan Tuhan bagi kita manusia,yang bukan sebagai persembahan tetapi sebagai belas kasih. Tuhan mengasihi kitadengan mengorbankan diri-Nya. Bapa Allah berbelas kasih dan sangat menyayangikita manusia maka Ia memberikan Anak-Nya sendiri bagi kita. Perbuatan Yesusdalam berbelas kasih ialah menolong dan menyelamatkan kita manusia dari segalabentuk perbudakan dosa, kejahatan dan kematian.  Belas kasih dari Tuhan dan kewajiban kita untuk melakukannya, merupakansebuah ibadat yang melebihi hari sabat dan persembahan lainnya ketika nasibhidup manusia sangat menuntut untuk diperhatikan. Inilah yang ingin Yesusperbaiki, ketika belas kasih diremehkan atau bahkan ditiadakan, sementarapersembahan dan hari sabat dipatuhi secara berlebihan. Bagi kita umat beriman,persembahan dan ibadat tidak perlu dihilangkan dari hidup kita, artinya kitatetap memerlukannya. Tetapi pada saat belas kasih itu diperlukan, kita tidakboleh menggantikannya dengan sekedar mempersembahkan doa-doa kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Kuatkanlah dan penuhilah kami dengan kuasa-Mu ya Allah,supaya kami dapat memberikan yang sesungguhnya sebagai belas kasih dan sebagai persembahan di dalam penghayatan iman kami.Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putra dan Roh Kudus ... Isaiah 26: 7-9.12.16-19; Rs psalm 102: 13-14ab.15.16-18.19-21; Matthew 11: 28-30.KNOWING THE LORD WITH HIS NAME The theme for our meditation today is: Knowing theLord with His Name. There was a ten-year-old boy named Bastian. He wrote aletter to God to ask about His name. Bastian has prayed many times to ask whatreally the name of the Lord is, like his own name Bastian. Since he has notfound an answer, he wrote a special letter. He wrote such words: "LordGod, like Your Son's special name Jesus Christ, so what is Your realname?" He placed that letter at the foot of the cross in the church. The parish priest found that letter one morning. Hetook the letter and wrote under the written words of Bastian, and it read:"The name of the Lord God is 'I AM'. This was not a direct answer fromGod, but what the parish priest gave was the real answer, as the book ofGenesis says about Moses who did meet God and received this name. Then some daylater when Bastian and his family came to church, the boy took his letter andfound the answer he was really waiting for. God gives His own name "I" which means He isperfect, total and eternal. For the name "I", God is the onlypowerful being who affirms Himself as the almighty and everliving Lord. Withsuch superiority, Moses in the old testament and all of us from everygeneration are so blessed with this so special dignity of the Lord. God is notselfish, but He always shares with us, especially involves Himself with us andwe participate in His divinity, through Jesus Christ. We are encouraged to bring such divine superiority toequip ourselves, that we may be able to face enemies and those who oppose thewill of God. Our aim is to defeat those enemies. If we only use our ownstrengths and egos as human beings, we must be very weak when we face all thecomplexities of our works, various challenges and threats. But by using theidentity "I" of God, we will always be enabled by Him and we canstand to face all threats and difficulties. Jesus Christ shows this when He always says: "Itell you". Jesus revealed God's own name when He spoke and when He did theworks of God. Jesus never called himself by using such expression: "Jesustells you". He indeed used "I" to give affirmation ofHimself  and this also means to bring allthe believers to come to Him, to live with Him and to walk in His way of life.Today Jesus invites us to come to Him in order to draw from Him our spiritualrichness. "Come to me, for I am gentle and humble of heart." Let usalways believe and rely on God's name "I AM". Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O powerful and almighty God, accept ourprayer of gratitiude dependence for the love that You bestow on us through theperson Jesus Christ Your Son, and may we always rely on your power. Ia sudah banyak kali berdoa dengan lisan untuk menanyakan apa sebenarnyanama Tuhan, seperti dirinya yang bernama Bastian. Karena tidak menemukanjawaban, maka ia menulis surat itu. Isi surat itu adalah seperti ini:"Tuhan Allah, seperti Putra-Mu yang bernama Yesus Kristus, sebenarnyaTuhan sendiri bernama apa?" Ia menaruh surat itu di kaki salib di dalamgereja.  Pastor paroki menemukan surat itu pada suatu pagi. Diambilnya surat itu dania menulis di bawah tulisan Bastian, bunyinya ialah: "Nama Tuhan Allahialah 'AKU'. Ini memang bukan jawaban langsung dari Tuhan, tetapi pastor parokimemberikan jawaban yang sesungguhnya, seperti yang dikatakan di dalam kitabKejadian. Kemudian pada saat Bastian dan keluarganya datang ke gereja, si bocahmengambil suratnya dan menemukan jawaban yang sedang ia tunggu.   Allah menyebut nama-Nya “AKU” berarti bahwa Ia sempurna, total dan abadi. Untuk nama “AKU” tersebut, hanya Tuhan yang bisa menegaskan demikian karenaIa maha esa dan maha kuasa. Dengan keunggulan-Nya seperti ini, nabi Musa didalam perjanjian lama dan kita semua pada saat ini diberkati dengan keunggulanyang istimewa ini. Tuhan tidak mementingkan diri-Nya sendiri, tetapi Iasenantiasa berbagi dengan kita, khususnya melibatkan diri-Nya dengan kita dankita dengan Dia, melalui Yesus Kristus. Kita diharapkan untuk membawa keunggulan Ilahi tersebut untuk menghadapimusuh-musuh yang jahat dan yang melawan kehendak Allah, bahkan sampaimengalahkan musuh-musuh itu. Jika kita hanya memakai kekuatan dan ego kitasendiri sebagai manusia, kita pasti sangat lemah ketika berhadapan dengankompleksitas pekerjaan, aneka tantangan atau ancaman musuh-musuh. Namun denganmemakai identitas "Aku" dari Tuhan Allah, kita akan selalu dimampukanoleh Dia dan kita dapat berhasil melewati semua ancaman dan kesulitan. Yesus Kristus menegaskan hal ini ketika Ia selalu berkata: Aku berkatakepadamu. Yesus menyatakan nama Allah sendiri dalam bersabda dan berbuat. Yesustak pernah menyebut dirinya sendiri, seperti: "Yesus berkatakepadamu". Penegasan “Aku” untuk diri-Nya ini, juga berarti hendak membawasemua orang yang mendengar dan percaya, datang kepada-Nya, tinggal bersama-Nyadan menghayati cara hidup-Nya. Pada hari ini Yesus mengajak kita untuk datangkepada-Nya untuk menimba kekayaan belas kasih-Nya. “Datanglah kepada-Ku, karenaAku lemah lembut dan rendah hati.” Marilah kita selalu percaya dan mengandalkannama Tuhan sebagai AKU. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... In religion class, the students were taught to pray the "OurFather" and other basic prayers. The teacher once asked the students tojot down the formula of Our Father's prayer. However, Joyce only wrote thetitle "Our Father", then under it she drew the face of a man withthick and curly hair, mustache and thin beard. The teacher then asked why Joyce drew that man's face.She replied in this way: "I can already memorize the Lord's Prayer, and Ieven want something more, namely the face of God the Father. Because I do notknow the face of God, I better draw the face of my father at home. He is alsoas good as God". The little girl Joyce represents all of us believerswho want to know God directly and clearly. But  like her, we certainly find it difficult toverify on what or who God looks like. There is no human being can do this, butJesus Christ, who is the Son of God, indeed does it for us. The face of Jesusis so well known to us. According Him, as we come to know Him, to see His faceand to meet Him, we indeed know and experience the existence of God the Father. Today we come to meet the Lord God who introducesHimself to us. Through the passage of the book of the prophet Isaiah chapter10, God revealed Himself as the ruler of the universe and all nations on earth.The evil power who ruled  over thegodless nations would be eventually defeated by the power of Heaven, when Godused the Assyrian Kingdom to oppress them. Indeed, the Lord wanted to make themaware of their sinfull lives and they should repent then returned to Him. Jesus introduced God the Father as the One who hadincarnated in his human form. Jesus himself knew God the Father and what Godthe Father is really like. We can only obtain this knowledge through JesusChrist who is speaking and meeting us. In His prayer to the Father, Jesus askedthat all goodness and mercy are to be given to the simple, little and sufferingones. Whereas the arrogant, the powerful and the learned people find itdifficult to recognize God in their complicated lives. Many of us truly recognize God in times of difficultyand threat of suffering, and we really need the Lord's help. We also recognizeGod when He frees us from all forms of oppression and persecution. We alsorecognize God in situations of pain and helplessness. Di dalam pelajaran agama, mereka diajarkan berdoa “Bapa Kami” dandoa-doa umum lainnya. Murid-murid diminta gurunya untuk mencatat rumusan doaBapa Kami. Tetapi Yuvita hanya menuliskan judul doa “Bapa Kami”, lalu dibawahnya ia menggambar wajah seorang lelaki: rambut agak tebal dan keriting,berkumis dan jenggot tipis.  Ibu guru kemudian bertanya mengapa Yuvita menggambar wajah itu. Murid itumenjawab: "Doa Bapa Kami sudah aku hafal, padahal aku mau sesuatu yanglebih, yaitu wajah Bapa Allah. Karena aku tak tahu wajah Tuhan Allah, aku lebihbaik gambar wajah bapakku di rumah. Kan dia juga baik seperti TuhanAllah".  Yuvita mewakili kita semua orang beriman yang ingin mengenali Tuhan Allahsecara nyata. Tetapi sama seperti dia, kita pasti kesulitan menentukanwajah-Nya seperti apa atau siapa. Tidak seorang pun manusia mampu melakukanini, tapi Yesus Kristus yang adalah Putra Allah justru melakukan bagi kita.Wajah Yesus tidak asing bagi kita. Mengenali Dia, melihat wajah-Nya danberjumpa Dia, ialah sama saja dengan mengalami Bapa Allah. Secara khusus pada hari ini kita bertemu Tuhan Allah sendiri yangmemperkenalkan diri-Nya kepada kita. Melalui perikop kitab nabi Yesaya bab 10,Tuhan Allah menyatakan diri-Nya sebagai penguasa alam semesta dan terutama atassegala bangsa di bumi. Kejahatan yang dibuat oleh bangsa-bangsa tidak ber-Tuhanakan dikalahkan oleh kuasa Surgawi, di mana Allah memakai bangsa Asyur untukmenindas mereka. Sesungguhnya Tuhan hendak menyadarkan mereka agar merekasegera bertobat dan berbalik kepada-Nya.  Yesus memperkenalkan Allah sebagai Tuhan yang telah menjelma di dalamdiri-Nya. Ia sendiri mengenal Allah Bapa dan seperti apa Allah Bapa itu, kitahanya bisa mendapatkan itu dalam diri Yesus Kristus yang sedang berbicara danberjumpa dengan kita. Di dalam doa kepada Bapa, Yesus meminta supaya semuakebaikan dan kemurahan menjadi berkat-berkat bagi orang-orang sederhana, kecildan menderita. Orang-orang congkak, sombong dan cerdik susah sekali mengenaliTuhan. Banyak dari kita mengenali Tuhan sungguh-sungguh pada saat kesulitan danancaman penderitaan dan kita sangat membutuhkan pertolongan-Nya. Kita jugamengenali Tuhan saat Ia membebaskan kita dari segala bentuk penindasan danpenganiayaan. Kita pun mengenali Tuhan ketika kita dalam situasi sakit dantidak berdaya. Di dalam hidup yang sederhana dan rendah hati kita juga mengenalTuhan.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Isaiah 7: 1-9; Rs psalm 48: 2-3a.3b-4.5-6.7-8; Matthew 11: 20-24.OVERCOMING DISAPPOINTMENT The theme forour meditation today is: Overcoming Disappointment. There was a teenager namedAnto, who wanted to use his time outside of school with soccer training. Heenrolled in one of the football schools near where he lived. But after twoweeks of training, he quit and moved to another football school. The reason wasthat he was very disappointed because there was no atmosphere of mutualappreciation and support for creativity. Anto had a good playing talent but hedid not have the support of the coach and friends.  There are manyfactors that cause a person to be disappointed and in this reflection wehighlight the factor of lack of appreciation and happy for the goodness andquality we have. Appreciation is the same as acceptance, listening, respect,support and paying attention. Another expression for all this is gratitude. Agrateful person is the one who appreciates goodness and truth and lives in it. Today's readingsgive us examples of disappointments. God expressed disappointment overJerusalem and its rulers and inhabitants, who did not rely on the power of theAlmighty God to guard and defend them from the interference of the othernations. They lack faith in God, and were overcome by fear and want to escapefrom the threat of the enemy. Jesus Christ was disappointed in the cities thathad received His teaching and power but had no intention of repentance. Alongwith that disappointment, Jesus affirmed that the punishment was already instore for them at the time of the final judgment. We always showdisappointment because there is no appreciation and no gratitude in variousforms such as anger, reprimands, warnings and even strong resistance. There'snothing wrong with this. The important thing is that this is an act to makepeople aware, remind and bring people back to have gratitude and appreciation.We always have ways such as fraternal correction or protest in a way like Antomade earlier, so that the bad atmosphere of living together again gives a senseof home and acceptance of each other.    So, what needsto be avoided from this disappointed attitude? Yesaya 7: 1-9; Mazmur tg 48: 2-3a.3b-4.5-6.7-8; Matius 11: 20-24.MENGATASI KEKECEWAAN  Tema renungan kita pada hari ini ialah: Mengatasi Kekecewaan. Ada seorangremaja bernama Anto, ingin mengisi waktu di luar sekolah dengan latihan sepakbola. Ia mendaftarkan diri ke salah satu sekolah bola di dekat tempat iatinggal. Namun setelah dua minggu berlatih, ia berhenti dan pindah ke sekolahbola yang lain. Alasannya ialah bahwa ia sangat kecewa karena di sana tidak adasuasana saling memberi apresiasi dan mendukung kreativitas. Anto memiliki bakatbermain yang bagus tetapi ia tidak mendapat dukungan dari pelatih danteman-teman.  Ada banyak faktor yang menyebabkan seseorang menjadi kecewa dan dalamrenungan ini kita menyoroti faktor tidak ada apresiasi dan rasa bangga ataskebaikan dan kualitas yang kita miliki. Apresiasi adalah sama denganpenghargaan, mengindahkan, menghormati, mendukung dan memberikan perhatian.Ungkapan lain untuk ini ialah bersyukur. Orang yang bersyukur adalah dia yangmenghargai kebaikan dan kebenaran dan hidup di dalamnya. Bacaan-bacaan hari ini memberikan kita contoh pengalaman kekecewaan. Allahmengungkapkan kekecewaan atas Yerusalem bersama penguasa dan penduduknya, yangtidak mengandalkan kekuasaan Tuhan yang maha tinggi untuk menjaga dan membelamereka dari gangguan bangsa lain. Mereka kurang percaya kepada Tuhan, dandikuasai rasa takut serta ingin lari dari gertakan musuh. Yesus Kristus kecewaatas kota-kota yang telah menerima pengajaran dan kekuatan dari-Nya tetapimereka tak punya niat untuk bertobat. Menyertai rasa kecewa itu, Yesusmemberikan penegasan bahwa hukuman sudah disiapkan bagi mereka pada waktupenghakiman yang terakhir. Kita selalu menunjukkan rasa kecewa karena tidak ada apresiasi dan tidakada sikap bersyukur ini dalam berbagai bentuk seperti marah, teguran,peringatan bahkan perlawanan yang keras. Tak ada salah tentang ini. Yangpenting adalah ini sebagai tindakan untuk menyadarkan, mengingatkan dan membawaorang kembali kepada sikap bersyukur dan memberikan apresiasi. Kita selalumemiliki cara-cara seperti koreksi persaudaraan atau protes dengan cara sepertiyang dibuat oleh Anto tadi, supaya suasana hidup bersama yang kacau kembalimemberikan rasa betah  dan salingmenerima satu terhadap yang lain.    Lalu apa yang perlu dihindari dari sikap kecewa ini? Yang perlu kitahindari ialah kekecewaan yang mendorong seseorang untuk balas dendam, rencanajahat, atau menciptakan konflik dan perang. Ada kekecewaan yang konstruktifyang berguna untuk memperbaiki keadaan yang tidak beres dan kacau, dan ada jugakekecewaan yang menjurus destruktif, yaitu mendatangkan masalah yang lebihburuk. Isaiah 1: 11-17; Rs psalm 50: 8-9.16bc-17.21.23; Matthew 10: 34 - 11: 1.SPIRITUAL WARFARE The theme for our meditation today is: SpiritualWarfare. In one particular morning there was a girl who was quarreling with hermother. They shouted and blamed each other over something not substantial. Whenleaving home to work, she was still angry and during work she remained angryover that problem with her mother. But the mother at home was continuallypraying for her daughter. She just wanted that her daughter's anger couldimmediately go away. In the afternoon when the girl returned from work, there wasno more anger and the atmosphere in the house returned to normal as if therewas nothing just happened. Anger, like many other sins, originates from the evilone, which is the devil. When we allow ourselves to be dominated by this evilpower, any sinful act can happen as quickly as possible. Even a human personwho is good and intelligent, if he is controlled by the power of darkness, hewill be defeated and eventually perished. This evil power aims to afflict anddestroy him. This power always seizes the opportunity that is available, whichis those persons who are mentally and spiritually weak. The incident above between that girl and her mother isan example of the spiritual war. In a spiritual war, the physical violence thatinvolves tools or weapons does not occur, but people normally use words,thoughts, arguments, criticisms, advices, and the powerful force of prayer. Thespiritual warfare in its true sense is the fight between the power of good andthe power of evil. From His part, the Lord wants that truth and goodness are tobe safeguarded because the forces of evil have already inflicted chaos or haveambition to take power over the life of mankind. In this regard, the prophet Isaiah insisted theIsraelites during their exile period, that in the presence of the almighty Godthey must cleanse themselves by avoiding all the evil deeds. The sword thatJesus used in the spiritual war is the Word of God. This sword has two equallysharp sides used to defend our spirits and souls from the danger of evil, theconsideration and decision of our minds, and the purpose of  our hearts. The Word of God is actually thesword of the Holy Spirit that is used to destroy the spirit of darkness thatbrings us into sin and ultimately removes our dignity as sons and daughters ofGod. So it is Jesus Christ who leads the war that createsdivision among the relatives and friends, where the power of darkness anddestruction of human souls can be found existing there. Purification must bemade there, in order to give us sons and daughters of God an opportunity tolive righteous, peaceful, and joyful in the Holy Spirit. We should always usethe spiritual sword of Jesus Christ in our lives as Christians. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O beloved Father, we pray that may the fireof Your Spirit burn our zeal to be courageous and diligent to fight all formsof evil that at any moment can disturb and conquer us. Ada seorang pemudipada suatu pagi bertengkar dengan ibunya. Mereka berteriak dan salingmempersalahkan atas sesuatu persoalan yang sepele. Saat meninggalkan rumahuntuk bekerja, ia masih marah dan selama di tempat kerja ia tetap marah. Tetapisang ibu di rumah tidak henti-hentinya berdoa bagi putrinya itu. Ibu hanyaingin supaya kemarahan putrinya segera berhenti. Pada sore hari ketika pemudiitu kembali dari kerja, tidak ada lagi kemarahan dan suasana kembali normal.  Kemarahan merupakan satu dari banyak dosa lain yang bersumber dari sijahat, yaitu iblis atau setan. Pada saat kita membiarkan diri kita dikuasaioleh iblis ini, perbuatan dosa apa pun dapat terjadi dengan secepat mungkin.Sehebat dan sepandainya manusia itu, jika berhadapan dengan kuasa kegelapan inibakal takluk dan binasa. Kuasa ini masuk ke dalam diri manusia dengan tujuanmenghancurkan dan menyengsarakannya. Ia memanfaatkan kesempatan untuk masuk danbekerja, yaitu mereka yang lemah dalam mental dan rohani.  Kejadian antara pemudi dengan ibunya tadi merupakan satu contoh perangrohani. Di dalam suatu perang rohani, tidak terjadi kekerasan fisik yangmelibatkan alat atau senjata, tetapi yang dipakai ialah kata-kata, pikiran,argumen, kritikan, nasihat, dan yang kekuatannya dahsyat yaitu doa. Perangrohani dalam wujud yang sesungguhnya ialah kekuatan yang benar berperangmelawan kekuatan yang salah atau jahat. Dari pihak Tuhan, kebenaran dankebaikan hendak ditegakkan atau dipertahankan karena kekuatan jahat sudahterlanjur menghadirkan kekacauan atau bahkan ancaman untuk berkuasa.  Maka nabi Yesaya menegaskan kepada bangsa Israel di pembuangan, bahwamereka harus membersihkan dirinya dengan menjauhkan perbuatan-perbuatan yangjahat dari hadirat Allah yang maha kuasa. Pedang yang dipakai Yesus untukberperang secara rohani ialah Firman Allah. Pedang itu memiliki dua sisi samatajamnya yang membela roh dan jiwa, pertimbangan-pertimbangan pikiran danmaksud-maksud hati manusia. Firman Allah itu sesungguhnya ialah pedang Rohuntuk menghancurkan roh kegelapan yang menjerumuskan kita ke dalam dosa danakhirnya kehilangan martbat sebagai putra dan putri Allah. Jadi Yesuslah yang menggerakkan terjadinya pembinasaan itu bahkan dapatmembuat perpecahan di antara saudara dan sahabat, mengingat di situ memangsering terdapat kegelapan dan kebusukan yang dibiarkan tumbuh subur.Pembersihan memang harus terjadi, supaya memberikan kita kesempatan sebagaiputra dan putri Allah yang hidup benar, damai, dan bersuka cita dalam RohKudus. Hendaknya kita selalu menggunakan pedang rohani Yesus Kristus. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... There was an incident thatwas quite disturbing in a residential area of ​​the city. Many of the husbandsbegan to get used to gathering until midnight from one house to another.Usually they drank alcohol drinks, did gambling and making noisy there. Thissurely had caused much sorrow to their wives at homes and increased problems intheir respective homes. In one ocassion, those wives gathered in one of theirhouses to discuss the matter, then they decided to strike a protest. All theresidents supported them and together they went to where their husbandsgathered. They carried a banner with this expression: "Don't Let YourFamily Life Go in Vain". They together also shouted in one voice: "Myhusband, go home. Don't ruin your family." In responding to the demand ofthose wives, the local government deliberately disbanded the activity and wasprohibited from repeating it. God never plans our lives in vain. We are the ones whoalways make it useless or meaningless. Our weaknesses as human beings, coupledwith bad influences of the world, are always the endless threats that make ourpersonal or common life useless and meaningless. This means that we submitourselves to be controlled by our own weaknesses and evil influences around us. We can mention our human weaknesses such as laziness,reluctance, boredom, surrender and lack of confidence, indeed contribute amajor influence to let this life go in vain. If someone reaches a moment ofdeath, when he is only known by the people around as a lazy person, or atroublemaker, or a criminal and a burden for others, this is obviously a realwasting of life. If someone until the moment of death, could not solved theproblems that have tormented him physically and spiritually, this means that hereally experienced a problematic and useless life. Our today's sacred readings give us one importantpiece of advice, namely that our lives should not go vain, simply because ourattitudes are bad or we do not have a meaningful life. God wants us todiscipline ourselves in the way we live out our faith, that is, we should nottake it for granted and to underestimate His teachings and commandments. We must view it as a very important thing for us andwe take it seriously. Jesus uses the symbolical method to teach us, that wemust become the good soil for His word to grow and bear abundant fruit. Therain of His grace sent down to us on earth in order to grow our life of faithso that it can also bear abundant fruit. Ada suatu kejadian yang cukup mengagetkan di sebuah wilayahpemukiman kota. Para suami mulai terbiasa berkumpul sampai tengah malam, darisatu rumah ke rumah yang lain. Biasanya mereka minum minuman beralkohol,berjudi dan menghabiskan waktu di situ. Hal ini membuat para istri di rumahnyamasing-masing semakin gelisah dan marah.  Para istri berkumpul dan ingin melakukan sebuah gerakan protes. Merekamendapat restu dari semua warga di situ dan bersama-sama pergi ke tempatsuami-suami mereka berkumpul. Mereka membawa spanduk dengan tulisan besar:"Jangan Membuat Hidup Keluarga Sia-Sia". Mereka juga berteriakbersama-sama: "Suamiku, kembali ke rumah. Jangan membuat hidup keluargasia-sia." Atas desakkan para istri tersebut, pihak pemerintah setempatdengan paksa membubarkan aktivitas tersebut dan dilarang untuk terulangkembali. Tuhan tidak pernah merencanakan kehidupan kita yang sia-sia. Kitalah yangselalu membuatnya sia-sia. Kelemahan kita sebagai manusia yang ditambah denganpengaruh-pengaruh buruk di dunia selalu menjadi ancaman tanpa henti yangmembuat hidup kita pribadi atau bersama tidak berguna dan tidak bermakna. Ituberarti kita menyerah untuk dikuasai kelemahan kita sendiri danpengaruh-pengaruh jahat dari luar diri kita. Kita dapat menyebutkan sifat-sifat manusiawi seperti malas, malu, bosan,menyerah dan kurang percaya diri, sangat memberi kontribusi besar bagikehidupan yang sia-sia. Jika seseorang sampai pada saat ajalnya, hanya dikenaloleh orang-orang sekitar sebagai pemalas, pengacau, penjahat dan beban bagiorang lain, ini merupakan sebuah kehidupan yang sia-sia. Jika seseorang yangsampai mati tidak dapat menyelesaikan masalah-masalah yang menyiksa dirinyajasmani dan rohani, berarti ia memang mengalami kesia-siaan dalam hidupnya. Bacaan-bacaan suci pada hari ini memberikan kita satu nasihat penting,yaitu agar jangan sampai hidup kita menjadi sia-sia, hanya karena sikap hidupkita yang kurang teratur atau tidak disiplin. Tuhan menghendaki supaya kitadisiplin dalam menghayati iman kita, yaitu kita tidak boleh memandang remehatau santai dengan ajaran-ajaran dan perintah-perintah-Nya.  Kita harus memandangnya begitu penting dan kita menjalaninya dengan serius.Simbol yang dipakai oleh Yesus ialah diri kita yang harus menjadi tanah subursehingga firman yang ditanam dapat tumbuh. Hujan rahmat yang diturunkanoleh-Nya menumbuhkan hidup kita sehingga dapat berbuah melimpah. Kehidupan yanghanya sia-sia adalah tanda iman yang rapuh dan dangkal. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... There was a young man who wanted to get married because his agewas already sufficient, which was 35 years old. He spoke with his mother aboutthis plan. The mother asked about who exactly was the girl whom his son haschosen. That's where the problem came out for clarification. The young man wasconfused to choose one of the two girls whom he thought were equally importantand precious to him. He explained to his mother all the characteristics of thetwo girls. However, the mother with her motherly intuition wasable to release her son's confusion by saying that he must choose one of thetwo who had the spirit of sacrifice. She must be able to offer from herselfwithout reservation for the sake of her partner in life. In consequence, herson must leave the girl who was believed to be the possessive person. The signof someone who is possessive is that he demands to be considered important, orbe given a very special attention. Then the young man could finally make hisright decision in choosing his ideal girl to be his partner for life. The Kingdom of God exists forever with God Himself andit came true in our history with the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. Thecenter of this Kingdom is the Lord Jesus Christ and all of His works for all ofus. The main characteristic of this Kingdom is all the spiritual works that aremanifested in the self-sacrifice of the Lord Jesus with His greatest goal, thatis to save humanity from sin and death. This Kingdom directs its work to uniteall mankind to be its people and citizens. On the contrary, the kingdoms of the world are fullwith this world's characteristics, namely a life that is attached with fleshand materialism. In this type of life people have a possessive mentality, thatis to take and to own. This is natural and none of us is born free from theinclination to be attached to this world's influence. If this attitude becomesvery dominant, this is where the competition and conflict begin becauseeveryone really wants to pursue one's own interest. For us the followers of Christ, the Kingdom of God isthe only choice to achieve salvation for a life that is eternal. Jesus is ourtrue Teacher and today He invites us to choose and follow Him until we becomelike Himself. We are weak servants, but we are given a challenge to become likeour Master, which is Jesus. The prophet Isaiah testified about himself, thatalthough he was a sinner, he chose to follow the Kingdom of God, then he wasready to be sent by God. Ada seorangpemuda ingin menikah karena usianya sudah dianggap cukup, yaitu 35 tahun. Iaberbicara kepada ibunya tentang rencana ini. Ibu bertanya tentang siapasebenarnya gadis pilihan putranya itu. Di situlah pokok masalahnya. Pemuda itubingung untuk memilih satu dari dua gadis yang menurutnya sama-sama penting danberharga baginya. Ia menjelaskan semua ciri kedua gadis itu kepada ibunya. Tetapi sang ibu yang memiliki intuisi lebih tajam, menghilangkankebingungan putranya dengan mengatakan bahwa dari dua gadis itu, ia harusmemilih gadis yang memiliki sikap rela berkorban. Apa saja yang ada padadirinya harus dapat dipersembahkan demi pasangan hidupnya. Maka konsekuensinya,putranya harus meninggalkan gadis yang bersikap posesif. Tanda seseorang yangposesif ialah ia sangat menuntut untuk diperhatikan, dipentingkan, atau diberitempat sangat istimewa. Pemuda itu akhirnya dapat mengambil keputusannya yangtepat dengan pilihan gadis idamannya untuk dijadikan pasangan hidupnya.  Kerajaan Allah sudah ada bersama Tuhan Allah sendiri dan menjadi kenyataandengan kedatangan Yesus Kristus ke dunia. Pusat kerajaan Allah itu ialah TuhanYesus Kristus dan seluruh karya-Nya kepada umat manusia. Ciri utama kerajaanini ialah penuh dengan karya rohani, pengorbanan dan persembahan diri dengantujuan terbesar ialah menyelamatkan umat manusia dari dosa dan kematian.Kerajaan ini ingin menyatukan semua umat manusia menjadi warganya. Kerajaan dunia penuh dengan ciri-ciri hidup duniawi dengan tanda utamanyaialah kedagingan dan materialisme. Oleh karena itu sikap manusia yang sangattepat untuk ini ialah posesif, dengan mengambil dan memilikinya. Setiap pribadimanusia memiliki sikap alami untuk terikat dengan dunia ini. Jika sikap inimenjadi sangat dominan maka dari sinilah dimulai persaingan dan konflik diantara orang-orang yang mengejar pemenuhan kepentingan dirinya sendiri. Bagi para pengikut Kristus, kerajaan Allah adalah pilihan satu-satunya demimencapai keselamatan hidupnya. Yesus adalah Guru sejati kita dan pada hari iniIa mengajak kita untuk memilih dan mengikuti Dia sampai kita menjadi sepertidiri-Nya. Kita adalah para hamba yang lemah, namun kita diberi tantangan untukdapat menjadi Tuan seperti Dia. Nabi Yesaya memberikan kesaksian tentangdirinya, bahwa meskipun ia seorang yang berdosa, ia memilih mengikuti KerajaanAllah, kemudian ia siap untuk diutus oleh Tuhan. Santo Benediktus Abas, padamasanya, memberikan alternatif Kerajaan Allah di dunia Eropa, yaitu jalanpertapaan dan hidup membiara.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Hosea 14: 2-10; Rs psalm 51: 3-4.8-9.12-13.14.17; Matthew 10: 16-23.PREPARE FOR THE RISK Our meditation today has the theme: Preparing for theRisk. There were two teenagers, brother and sister, who went shopping for theirschool bags. The sister who is older bought her bag that was cheaper, while heryounger brother bought his that was more expensive. The cheaper bag had pocketsfor keeping the tupperware water or food and other items such as umbrella andobjects for playing.                                        The more expensive bag looked beautiful in shape andcolor but did not have pockets for keeping the tupperware and umbrella. Thebrother realized the importance of the bag as his sister bought, so he returnedto the shop to change it with the same bag as his sister had. We see that thetwo teenagers really foresaw the risks they would face when they returned toschool in the beginning of the new school year. The risk for the Israelites described by the prophetHosea was the trouble they had to face as the consequence of their sins againstthe Lord. If they wished a renewal, a better and a new life, all they had to dowas to abandon their old life that was in the bondage of sins, then returned tosay words of regret and then repent in the face of God. That was a kind of riskwhich was easy to say or teach, but was difficult to put into practice. In today's Gospel, we see Jesus made a list of risksand dangers that already awaited His disciples who were sent on His behalf. Themost serious thing was that they must suffer all forms of persecution likeJesus Christ himself experienced. They were expected to always ready for anygiven situation even to experience the loss of their lives. Actually Jesus isconvincing us that the risk is very useful for our faithfulness in thefollowing of His call for all of us. This is the price of our being called andchosen by Him. So the nature of our motivation is actually spiritual. Prepare for the risk is different from fighting therisk. Prepare for the risk shows that someone is calm, optimistic, confidentand in good will for whatever risk  hewill face. If the risks are severe and unpredictable, he will face withenthusiasm and willingness. If the risk is small, he does not underestimate orrelax with it. Whereas fighting the risk is related to reaction and resistanceto the risks already noticed. It is here when clashes or conflicts can occurbetween the opposing parties. For us, preparation or vigilance is our priority. Thescriptures always advise us to always be alert and attentive to the signs fromGod because in front of us are many risks already awaiting. Ada duaorang remaja, kakak dan adik, belanja tas sekolah di toko. Sang kakak yangseorang perempuan membeli tas yang harganya lebih murah, sedangkan adiknya yanglaki-laki membeli yang lebih mahal. Tas yang lebih murah memiliki saku-sakuuntuk menyimpan botol air dan barang lain seperti payung dan benda-benda lainuntuk keperluan bermain di sekolah.  Tas yang lebih mahal memang bentuk dan warnanya jauh lebih indah tetapitidak memiliki saku-saku untuk menyimpan air dan payung. Sang adik menyadaripentingnya tas seperti yang dibeli kakaknya, maka ia kembali ke toko untukmenggantikannya dengan tas yang sama dengan kakaknya. Kita melihat bahwa keduaremaja ini sungguh memperhitungkan risiko yang akan dihadapi ketika merekakembali ke sekolah pada tahun ajaran baru ini. Risiko bagi bangsa Israel yang disampaikan oleh Nabi Hosea ialah apa yangharus mereka hadapi setelah mereka sudah terlanjur jatuh ke dalam lumpur dosa.Jika mereka ingin mendapatkan hidup baru yang lebih baik, yang harus merekalakukan ialah meninggalkan hidup yang penuh dosa, kemudian kembali membawakata-kata penyesalan dan bertobat kepada Tuhan. Itu adalah sebuah risiko yanggampang dikatakan atau diajarkan, tetapi berat untuk dipraktikkan.   Yesus memberikan sebuah daftar risiko dan bahaya yang sudah menunggu paramurid-Nya yang diutus atas nama-Nya. Yang paling serius ialah mereka harusmenderita segala bentuk penganiayaan seperti Yesus Kristus sendiri alami.Mereka siap untuk mengalami kehilangan nyawanya. Risiko ini berguna untuksebuah kelangsungan hidup dalam mengikuti kehendak Tuhan. Ini adalah hargasebuah panggilan dalam mengikuti Kristus. Jadi motivasinya sangat spiritual. Bersiap untuk risiko berbeda dengan berani menghadapi risiko. Bersiapdengan risiko menunjukkan bahwa seseorang itu tenang, optimis, percaya diri danrela untuk apa pun yang bakal dihadapi. Di sinidapat terjadi bentrok atau konflik di antara pihak-pihak yang bertentangan. Bagi kita, persiapan dan kewaspadaan adalah keutamaan. There was a grade 5 elementary school boy who was asking hismother, as he said: "Mommy, which one goes first, to give or toreceive?" His mother immediately replied, "What is obvious is togive." Then the boy said, "So give me money because I want buy mytoys." We all should agree that to give is the first, because this is whatGod always does towards us. Our lives as human beings and the gift of faith inus are indeed God's gifts to us. In today's Gospel, we see the commission of Jesus tothe apostles, which is to give, to bring the name of Jesus Christ to everyone,and to present His kingdom that brings justice and comfort to those who receiveit. Then Jesus concluded His message by saying this to them: "Without costyou have received; without cost you are to give" or freely receive freelygive. Jesus also addresses this to us, that when we give or share the Lord'sgift, it must be free of charge. For example, the apostles had received all thedivine wisdom and gift for free, so they should preach them for free too. Theyshould not take any advantage of whatever God's work that they did. It was equally evident to the Israelites who hadreceived all the goodness of God especially when God defended, nurtured andmade them a chosen people of God. In fact, according to the prophet Amos, whenthis nation suffered being exiled in the foreign land other than their own landof the Palestine, the Lord God had always His pity on them. God indeed punishedthem for the sins they had committed but later God comforted them and gave themhope for their liberation. They also must follow the example of God to be kindand generous toward one another and other people foreign to them as well. The act of freely receive freely give is the way howwe imitate the Lord Jesus Christ. We also imitate Our Lady, the Blessed VirginMary, Saint Joseph, the apostles, Saint Paul, Saint John the Baptist and allthe other Saints. Our own parents are also the examples for us of thislifestyle, because they give everything to each of us and they never ask forreward or payment. What is really unpleasant and discouraging is that there arechildren who should have pleased their parents with their good deeds and exemplarylives, but instead cause troubles by hurting and showing unkind manner to themto their death. So our good news today would be this: we like to bealways in the way of Jesus Christ, because we have freely received so much fromanywhere and anyone, and so we are happy to give them freely as well. Kata anak itu, "Kalau begitu berikan akuuang untuk membeli mainan." Kita semua sepatutnya setuju bahwa memberimemang yang pertama, karena hal ini adalah tindakan Tuhan terhadap kita. Hidupkita sebagai manusia dan karunia iman yang kita miliki adalah pemberian Tuhan.                                                                                                 Di dalam Injil hari ini, tugas perutusan Yesus kepada para rasul ialahuntuk memberi, yaitu membawa nama Yesus kepada setiap orang dan menghadirkankerajaan-Nya untuk menyejahterakan mereka jiwa dan raga. Lalu pesan Yesuskepada mereka: Kalian telah menerima semua dari-Ku sebagai karunia cuma-cuma.Maka ketika kalian memberikan semua itu, harus juga dengan cuma-cuma. Contoh,para rasul mendapatkan pengetahuan tentang Allah dan rahasia-Nya secara gratis,maka mereka hendaknya mewartakan itu dengan gratis pula. Mereka tidak bolehmengambil keuntungan apa pun kegiatan pewartaan itu. Rahmat dan karunia yang gratis ini sejak dahulu sebelum zamannya pararasul, telah dialami oleh bangsa Israel yang mendapat segala perbuatan baikAllah yang membela, memelihara dan membesarkan mereka. Bahkan, menurut NabiAmos, ketika bangsa ini sangat menderita sebagai tawanan di Babel, Tuhan Allahjuga berbelas kasih kepada mereka. Tuhan mengangkat semua bentuk hukuman kepadamereka dan kembali mengasihani mereka. Oleh karena itu mereka harus mengikuticontoh dari Tuhan untuk selalu berbuat baik pertama-tama di antara mereka dankemudian kepada bangsa-bangsa lain. Menerima cuma-cuma dan memberi juga cuma-cuma merupakan cara kita meniruTuhan Yesus. Kita juga meniru Bunda Maria, Santo Yusuf, para rasul, santoPaulus, Yohanes Pembaptis dan semua orang kudus lainnya. Orang tua kita sendirijuga telah menjalani gaya hidup ini, karena mereka memberikan segala sesuatudemi kita masing-masing dan tak pernah mereka meminta balasan atau bayaran.Justru yang sangat tidak terpuji ialah jika ada anak-anak yang mestinyamembalas orang tua dengan menyenangkan mereka, tetapi sebaliknya menyusahkanbahkan menyakiti mereka sampai kematian mereka. Jadi pesan bijaksana hari ini adalah: kita hendaknya tetap dalam jalanYesus Kristus, yaitu karena kita telah menerima begitu banyak dan cuma-cumadari mana pun dan siapa pun, maka kita harus memberi dengan cuma-cuma juga.Jangan sampai terjadi bahwa kita hanya ingin untuk diberi dan dilayani sesuaidengan keinginan kita, sementara itu kita membatasi diri untuk memberi apa yangseharusnya dapat kita berikan kepada Tuhan dan sesama kita.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Heprotested, that every time those sent into the world were angels, then prophetsand the top of all was the Son of God himself. The leader of Satan urged thathe himself or his representatives be given opportunity to be sent as well. But God did not fulfill the demand of Satan. Thereason was because Satan's main mission was to destroy and eliminate whateverbelongs to God, while the work of God and persons sent to the world were thosewith the duty to find out and bring back what had been lost because of Satan'swork. This means that, if there is freedom and opportunity in favor of Satan, hewill be more enjoyable with his mission and that would bring more damages andelimination from God's side. Jesus Christ is the Lord, the Son of God, who seeksand finds the lost. When He was still alive on earth, He did this mission tofulfill the will of the Father during his public works. This mission then wascontinued by the apostles who were sent in the name of Jesus for the samepurpose, namely to find the lost ones. Jesus told them to focus on the lost sheepof the Israelites. They obeyed to fulfill this duty. The commission of the twelve apostles is related tothe twelve tribes of Israel. They were the chosen people who accepted andcontinued the teachings of God for all mankind. But they were not the holdersof all truth. They were chosen to mediate the great deeds of God to the world.Jesus Christ is the principle messenger of God himself who came into the worldthrough this chosen people. So the Lord Jesus wanted the twelve apostles torealize the mission, that is to unite the scattered children of God. They wereasked to strengthen the unity of people as a nation chosen and blessed by God.Jesus Christ wished this unity is strongly rooted with all the truth which isfrom God and is brought throughout the world reaching out all nations andcultures. This was realized by the foundation of the Church after the Ascensionof Jesus. Now the duty of the Church is to make Christ and His gospel known toall nations of the world. The good news for us today is that we should firstmake ourselves strong, mature, capable and available men and women of Christ,before we can bring our brothers and sisters to come and to meet God. We shouldnot be like Pharisees who were able to teach and speak but by their own livesthey kept people away from God. We must depart from ourselves, then we reachout and guide others to the Lord. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Pada suatuketika kepala Setan menghadap Tuhan Allah. Ia mengajukan protes, bahwa setiapkali yang diutus ke dalam dunia ialah para malaikat, kemudian para nabi danpuncaknya Putra Allah sendiri. Kepala Setan ini mendesak supaya dirinya atauwakil-wakilnya dapat diberikan juga kesempatan untuk diutus.  Tetapi Tuhan Allah tetap tidak akan memenuhi tuntutan Setan. Alasannyaialah karena tugas utama Setan ialah merusak dan menghilangkan yang menjadimilik Tuhan, sedangkan tugas Tuhan dan para utusannya ialah menemukan manusiadan ciptaan Tuhan lainnya yang telah hilang karena ulahnya Setan. Yang jelas,kalau diberi kebebasan dan kesempatan, Setan akan menjadi lebih menikmatitugasnya itu, dan membawa kerugian bagi Tuhan Allah sendiri.  Yesus Kristus adalah Tuhan dan Putra Allah yang mencari dan menemukan yanghilang. Tugas itu ia lakukan selama pekerjaan-pekerjaan publik-Nya. Tugas ini dilanjutkanoleh para rasul yang diutus atas nama-Nya. Yesus berpesan kepada mereka untukfokus kepada domba-domba yang hilang dari kalangan Israel. Yang mereka lakukanialah semua perbuatan baik yang telah Yesus perbuat. Apa yang diperintahkan oleh Tuhan kepada kedua belas rasul ini terkaitdengan kedua belas suku Israel. Mereka adalah umat pilihan yang menerima danmeneruskan ajaran Tuhan Allah bagi segenap umat manusia. Tetapi mereka bukanpenguasa segala kebenaran. Mereka dipilih untuk menjadi pengantaraperbuatan-perbuatan Tuhan Allah yang besar. Yesus Kristus adalah utusan BapaAllah sendiri yang datang ke dunia melalui bangsa pilihan ini. Jadi Tuhan Yesus ingin supaya kedua belas rasul itu dapat mewujudkan misiuntuk menyatukan suku-suku Israel. Mereka harus memperkuat persekutuan yanglebih kuat sebagai satu bangsa yang diberkati oleh Allah, bangsa pilihan-Nya.Yesus Kristus ingin menjadikan suatu persekutuan yang kuat, yang mengakarkansemua kebenaran dari Allah dan matang untuk melanjutkan misi itu ke seluruhdunia. Ini direalisasikan dengan berdirinya Gereja setelah Yesus naik ke surga.Kini tugas Gereja ialah membuat Kristus dan Injil-Nya dikenal di seluruh bangsadi dalam dunia ini. Warta gembira bagi kita hari ini ialah hendaknya kita terlebih dahulumenjadikan diri kita kuat, matang, mampu dan unggul sebagai pengikut Kristus,sebelum kita dapat membawa sesama atau saudara kita datang berjumpa denganTuhan. Kita hendaknya tidak boleh seperti orang Farisi yang mampu mengajarkandan berbicara tetapi membuat orang-orang jauh dari Tuhan. There was a priest who was invited by afamily to pray and cast out some evil spirits that possessed one of itsmembers. The priest brought with him the necessary instruments such as holywater, crucifix, alb and stole. As soon as the possessed person saw the priestcoming from the front of the house, he showed his face like someone who wantedto fight an enemy. He looked very strong. The priest stood calm before him. He spoke with allhis courage and what came out of his mouth was the word of God. This was enoughto silence that possessed person from uttering all curses. He couldn't standanymore the powerful God who made him very weak and powerless. The possessedman dropped into the bed. Meanwhile the priest kept praying and repeatedlyuttering the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was actually working in the person ofthat priest. Jesus is the Lord, so he is not bothered at all, scared or runaway because of the evil spirits. Jesus loves the sick, while evil spirits arenot loved. Instead they are rebuked, rejected and pressured to go out from thehuman person they take control. The evil spirits themselves are afraid to seeJesus from the first moment. They know that Jesus is much stronger and theywill never succeed to challenge Him. It is often shown in the scriptures thatthese evil spirits beg the Lord to have pity on them. It is very clear that every evil spirit is not anequal sparring to Jesus Christ. We as the followers of Christ have ouradvantage. We always go to Jesus to beg His power that He provides through Hisofficial representative, the ordained priest, in order to drive away evilspirits that take possession on our lives. However, by the dignity of thecommon priesthood because of the Baptism in Jesus Christ, every follower ofJesus should have the authority to reject and cast away temptations and evilpowers by using the name and power of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus gives us grace and strength to rejectthe evil spirits or any bad influence, through the power of sacraments of theChurch. Through the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist, wehave the power of the Almighty God to fight Satan and all his powers. There aremany instruments that we can use in fighting evil influences in this world, forexample through knowledge and wisdom, prayer and work, maturity as human personand self-sacrifice, discipline and faithfulness. The work of driving out evil spirits and theinfluences of the world is a very big thing to do. In their times, Jesus ofNazareth and the prophet Amos worked alone to fulfill this particular task.Today there are so many from our part who represent the Lord Jesus and theprophet Amos to do this duty. We must be able to carry out this important duty,and God himself guides us because after all God is the winner.Let'spray. Pastor membawa peralatan yang diperlukanseperti air suci, salib Yesus, juba dan stola. Begitu orang kerasukan itumelihat pastor datang dari depan rumah, ia menampakkan wajahnya sepertiseseorang yang ingin berperang melawan musuh. Ia terlihat sangat kuat. Pastor tampak tenang di hadapannya. Ia berani berbicara dan yang keluardari mulutnya ialah firman Tuhan, sehingga membuat orang yang kerasukan itudiam. Keberaniannya semakin berkurang dan membuatnya menjadi lemah sekali. Iamenjatuhkan dirinya ke tempat tidur. Sementara itu sang pastor tetap berdoa danberulang kali mengucapkan dalam nama Tuhan Yesus Kristus.   Yesus bekerja di dalam diri pastor tersebut. Yesus adalah Tuhan, jadi samasekali ia tak dibuat gemetar, takut atau lari oleh roh-roh jahat. Yesus sayangkepada orang yang sakit, sementara roh jahat tidak mendapatkan sayang tetapiteguran, hardikan dan tekanan untuk keluar. Roh jahat sendiri lebih dahuluketakutan melihat Yesus. Ia tahu Yesus jauh lebih kuat, maka ia takut. Makasering roh jahat juga memohon dikasihani juga oleh Tuhan. Sungguh jelas bahwa roh jahat yang sejahat apa pun, ia bukan lawan sepadanYesus Kristus. Keuntungan ada di pihak kita yang menjadi pengikut Kristus. Kitaselalu berpaling kepada Yesus untuk memakai kekuatan-Nya, melalui wakilresmi-Nya yaitu imam, untuk mengusir roh jahat yang merasuki manusia. Atausetiap orang yang percaya dapat langsung mengusir godaan dan rasukan roh jahatdalam nama dan kuasa Yesus Kristus. Tuhan Yesus memberikan rahmat dan kekuatan untuk pengusiran roh-roh jahatatau setiap pengaruh jahat melalui sakramen-sakramen di dalam Gereja. Secarakhusus melalui sakramen permandian, tobat dan Ekaristi, kita sudah dipenuh olehkuasa Allah yang maha tinggi untuk melawan setan dan segala kekuatannya. Adabanyak peran yang kita mainkan dalam pengusiran pengaruh jahat di dunia ini,misalnya melalui pengetahuan dan kebijaksanaan, dengan doa dan bekerja, dalamkedewasaan dan rela berkorban, serta dengan disiplin dan kesetiaan. Pekerjaan mengusir roh jahat dan pengaruh dunia yang mematikan adalah tugasyang sangat besar dan banyak. Pada waktunya masing-masing, Yesus dan nabi Amosbekerja sendiri dalam menunaikan tugas tersebut. Saat ini yang mewakili TuhanYesus dan nabi Amos sudah sangat banyak, yaitu kita semua. Kita harus dapatmenjalankan tugas yang penting ini, sambil Tuhan sendiri yang membimbing kita,karena bagaimana pun Tuhan harus menang.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of God, indeed became a man likeus. He had all the characteristics like human beings in general. One of themwas that He had women who were near Him and served Him. Jesus could not justhave male friends who were evidently close to Him. There was a parish priest who said this in one of hishomilies. After the Holy Mass, the priest was questioned by several youngpeople who met him outside the church. "Who were these women very specialand so loved by Jesus?" They expected that the answer given would be likeMary Magdalene, Martha and her sister Mary or one of the women found in thescriptures. They wanted to know that Jesus Christ had really a love story likeanyone of us, men and women. The Priest said that the women whom Jesus loved andthat they were so special to Him, were those small, poor, sick, sinful, andwidowed in the society where Jesus lived. The first woman should be His ownMother Mary and our Mother too. There were many other women in the newtestament, with or without names, who can be included in this group with theBlessed Mother. Women who were so loved by Jesus had thecharacteristics or signs that made Jesus' attention went to them. The mostnatural sign should be their attractiveness as women that make them equalpartners to men. The Lord makes a woman wife to her husband. This symbolimplies that whoever we are, both men and women, if we are righteous personsand God is working in us, just like the good soil for the word of God to grow,this certainly shows that God really loves us. Another sign of women whom the Lord Jesus loves istheir weakness, their difficulties, and their pains. Jesus' choice has alwaysbeen those people like what the Gospel of today shows us, namely the daughterof the head of the synagogue who was brought back to life by Jesus and a womansuffering hemorrhages for 12 years healed by Jesus. This symbol represents allof us who are in trouble, sickness, and missing something or someone. We reallyneed the Lord Jesus to heal and comfort us. Another one sign of women whom Jesus loved is theirpiety, pure hearts and sacrifices that they offer both for those they love andfor the life in general. Saint Maria Goretti was a little girl who defended herpurity by offering her own life, and this must be an example for all of us. Byfollowing all these examples, we deserve great and wonderful love from the LordJesus Christ. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... SetelahMisa kudus, pastor itu ditanyai oleh beberapa orang muda yang bertemudengannya. "Siapakah perempuan yang menjadi orang yang sangat spesial atauyang sangat dicintai oleh Yesus?" Mereka berharap agar jawaban yangdidapatkan ialah seperti Maria Magdalena, Marta dan saudarinya Maria atau salahsatu nama wanita yang ditemukan namanya di dalam kitab suci. Sang Pastor berkata bahwa perempuan yang dicintai dan sangat spesial bagiYesus Kristus ialah mereka yang dipandang kecil, hina, sakit, pendosa, danjanda. Ada banyakwanita di dalam perjanjian baru, baik yang punya nama maupun yang tidakdisebutkan namanya, yang dapat kita sebutkan.  Perempuan yang dicintai oleh Yesus memiliki ciri-ciri atau tanda-tanda yangmembuat perhatian Yesus jatuh kepada mereka. Tanda yang natural padanya ialahsebagai pribadi yang disayangi dan dijadikan pasangan yang sepadan, yang didalam istilah yang selalu kita pakai ialah istri. Simbol ini mengandung artibahwa siapa pun kita baik laki-laki maupun perempuan, jika kita menjadi tepatbagi Tuhan untuk bekerja di dalam diri kita, seperti tanah subur agar benihsabda-Nya tumbuh, maka Tuhan sungguh mencintai kita. Tanda lain pada perempuan sehingga cinta Tuhan Yesus mengalir kepadanyaialah kelemahan, kekurangan, dan sakit yang mereka alami. Pilihan Yesus selalujatuh ke orang-orang dalam kategori ini terlihat jelas di dalam kisah Injilpada hari ini, yaitu anak perempuan kepala rumah ibadat yang dipulihkan olehYesus dan seorang wanita 12 tahun menderita pendarahan yang disembuhkan olehYesus. Simbol ini mewakili kita semua yang berada dalam kesulitan, sakit, dankehilangan sesuatu atau seseorang, kita memang sangat memerlukan Tuhan Yesusuntuk menyembuhkan dan menghibur kita. Tanda yang lain dari perempuan ialah kesalehan, hati yang murni danpengorbanan diri yang ia berikan, baik kepada orang-orang yang dikasihinyamaupun kepada kehidupan pada umumnya. Santa Maria Goreti adalah gadis cilikyang mempertahankan kemurniannya, dan harus menjadi teladan bagi kita semua.Dengan mengikuti semua teladan ini, maka kita pantas mendapatkan kasih yangbesar dan sangat indah dari Tuhan Yesus Kristus. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... There were two children in afamily, one was in grade 6 and the younger one is in grade 4 elementary school.Their mother was so obsessed that her children were to be smart and successful.She required them with a lot of extra learning and tutoring. She was so upsetif her children got red marks. She was so disciplined with them that thechildren became so scared and exhausted. Every time they returned home, their faces lookeddiscouraged. But they remained under the observance of the mother who did notwant her children to have time for relax and play. However, they had a wise andkind father. Even though he had just returned from work, he took times toaccompany his two children. He brought them pleasant gifts or souvenirs. Hehugged them and told them many things that were entertaining and made themlaugh. What the father did to his children reflects Jesus'own deed, as He brought the little ones, the sick, the weak, the neglected, thepoor, and the forgotten to come to Him. He says: "Come to Me, all of youwho are weary and heavy burdened. I will give you rest." Jesus invites allof us to come to Him to experience such wonderful blessing from him. What heprovides is what happiness is all about. However, are we all tired and helpless? Of course weare. Tiredness and helplessness differ in grades from one person to another.Situation, work, and difficulty of each person is different with their relatedburdens or problems. Based on the light of the readings of today, there arethree burdens that we should give attention to. The first is the burden of our being as little andweak persons. If we are the little ones, the weak and those who have noinfluence, it signifies that there are always some who are in power and at anytime they may act towards us without love and mercy. They often don't have pityand trust in us. Another burden is the burden of sin. If we do not take care ofour souls by regretting sin, confessing it and repenting, it signifies that theburden is becoming heavier day by day. In due time the sin will torment anddestroy us. Saint Paul is very clear in saying that life in the flesh is aheavy burden for us. The third burden is the burden of pride. According toJesus Christ, the learned, wise, powerful and rich people are those who carryheavy burdens. They are actually very tired, because they are so obsessed formany things in life. For example, if you are too much preoccupied with so manyplans and ambitions, you will be very tired and boring. To all of these, Jesus'invitation becomes for us very important, that we should come to Him, becausefrom Him we find a pleasant rest. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Ada dua orang bocah kakak-beradik, masing-masing kelas 6 dan 4 SD.Ibu mereka sangat terobsesi supaya anak-anaknya pintar dan sukses. Ia wajibkanmereka dengan banyak les tambahan. Ia menjadi malu kalau anak-anaknya mendapatnilai merah. Ia sangat disiplin dengan mereka sampai-sampai anak-anak tampaksangat takut dan kelelahan. Setiap mereka pulang ke rumah, wajah mereka sudah tampak kehilangansemangat. Tetapi mereka harus tetap diikuti sang ibu yang tidak inginanak-anaknya santai. Untung ada sang bapak yang bijaksana. Meskipun baru sajapulang kerja, ia meluangkan waktu untuk mendampingi kedua anaknya. Iamembawakan oleh-oleh yang menyenangkan. Ia memeluk mereka lalu menceritakanmereka banyak hal yang menghibur dan membuat tertawa.  Apa yang dibuat oleh sang bapak kepada anak-anaknya itu merefleksikanperbuatan Yesus, ketika Ia membawa orang-orang kecil, sakit, lemah, terlantar,miskin, dan terlupakan untuk datang kepada-Nya. Ia berkata: "Marilahkepada-Ku, kamu semua yang letih lesu dan berbeban berat. Aku akan memberikankelegaan kepadamu." Yesus mengundang kita semua untuk datang kepada-Nya. Namun demikian, apakah kita semua sedang lelah dan tidak berdaya? Tentusaja. Kelelahan dan ketidak-berdayaan itu berbeda tingkatnya dari satu orang keorang yang lain. Situasi, pekerjaan, dan kesulitan setiap orang berbeda-bedadengan beban atau masalah yang berbeda-beda pula. Berdasarkan terangbacaan-bacaan pada hari ini, ada tiga beban yang perlu kita sadari danrenungkan. Yang pertama ialah beban sebagai orang kecil dan lemah. Kalau kita sebagaiorang kecil, lemah dan tidak memiliki pengaruh, berarti selalu ada orang yangberkuasa dan kapan saja bertindak sewenang-wenang terhadap kita. Mereka seringtidak punya kasihan dan kepercayaan kepada kita. Beban yang lain ialah bebandosa. Kalau kita tidak memelihara jiwa kita dengan menyesali dosa, mengakuinyadan bertobat, berarti beban itu kian hari kian berat. Pada saatnya dosa ituakan menyiksa dan membinasakan kita. Santo Paulus sangat tegas bahwa hidup didalam kedagingan adalah beban dosa kita yang berat.  Beban yang ketiga ialah beban kesombongan. Menurut Yesus Kristus,orang-orang pandai, bijak, yang berkuasa dan yang kaya, adalah mereka yangmemikul beban yang berat. Mereka sebenarnya sangat lelah, karena begitu banyakyang menjadi obsesi mereka dalam hidup. Anda misalnya, terlalu banyak urusandan ambisi, akan membuat dirimu amat lelah dan membosankan.  Terhadap semua ini, ajakan Yesus menjadisangat penting, yaitu hendaknya kita datang kepada Dia, karena dari Dia kitamendapatkan kelegaan yang menyenangkan. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Amos 9: 11-15; Rs psalm 85: 9.11-12.13-14; Matthew 9: 14-17.PARTY STYLE ANDFASTING STYLE The theme for our meditation today is: Party Style and Fasting Style. Ayoung girl celebrated her seventeenth birthday with great joy. Most of theguests were her school friends, and each brought her a gift. Her family alsoprepared a special present because she was the eldest of three children. Thecelebration was held on the beach on a bright sunny day. She was grateful andvery happy on her special day. A celebration is meaningful because people come together. Family andfriends meet, talk, share stories, eat and drink, sing, and enjoy one another'scompany. A joyful celebration is very different from fasting. Each has its ownpurpose. The essential characteristic of fasting is the experience of absence,self-denial, and sacrifice. When there is a sense of loss or longing, peopleusually set aside eating, drinking, entertainment, and other forms ofcelebration. There is no atmosphere of music, dancing, or festivity. Fastingexpresses our desire to seek the Lord more deeply. It reminds us that we longfor God's presence and wish to draw closer to Him through prayer,self-discipline, and spiritual renewal. This contrast is illustrated in today's Gospel. The disciples of Johnand many of the Jews did not recognize that Jesus, the Lord Himself, wasalready present among them. They thought of God as distant and believed thatfasting was the proper way to seek Him. In contrast, Jesus' apostles anddisciples rejoiced because the Bridegroom was with them. It was a time forcelebration, not for fasting. Jesus also taught that when He was taken awayfrom them, then it would be the proper time to fast. For us today, both fasting and celebration remain important. The Churchprovides regular occasions for fasting and for joyful feasts through theliturgical calendar. Many people also choose to fast as part of their personalspiritual discipline. Likewise, we celebrate feasts, both in large and smallgatherings, to give thanks for the gift of one another and for God's presencein our lives. The important lesson is that both celebration and fasting have theirown time and purpose. We should do each in the right way and respect those whoare celebrating or fasting. At one time we may celebrate, and at another timewe may fast. So, let us not disturb one another, but support each other inliving our faith. Let us pray.In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.Amen.Lord Jesus Christ, help us follow Your teaching on fasting and everyspiritual practice. Seorangremaja perempuan merayakan ulang tahunnya ke-17 dengan meriah. Kebanyakan yanghadir ialah teman-teman sekolahnya, dan masing-masing membawa hadiah baginya.Keluarga juga menyiapkan hadiah spesial bagi gadis yang sebagai anak sulungdari tiga bersaudara itu. Perayaan pesta itu dirayakan di pinggir pantai dengansuasana yang sangat alami dan pada saat cuaca yang sangat cerah. Gadis itusangat bersyukur pada hari ulang tahunnya itu.  Sangat sulit memahami apalagi melaksanakan sebuah pesta atau perayaan tanpaadanya kehadiran orang-orang terkait. Sebuah pesta berisi perjumpaan,pembicaraan, cerita, makan-minum, hal-hal seremonial, bernyanyi, berjoget,bersuka-ria, santai dan menikmati kegembiraan satu sama lain. Dalam pemahamanseperti ini, jelas sekali gayanya sebuah pesta sangat berbeda dengan sebuahpuasa. Gaya pesta adalah sebuah dunia lain dari pada gaya puasa. Di dalam berpuasa, aspek terpenting di sini ialah mengalami sebuahketiadaan dan ketidakhadiran. Aspek-aspek yang menjadi bagian dari ketiadaandan ketidakhadiran ialah seperti tidak makan minum, tak ada suasana suka riaseperti musik, menyanyi, joget, pekerjaan dan pertemuan. Ada suatu pemahamanbahwa Yang maha tinggi yang menjadi tujuan kegiatan berpuasa, tidak dekat dantidak hadir saat kita berpuasa. Jadi melalui puasa itu kita dapat memilikikesempatan untuk lebih fokus mencari dan menjadi dekat dengan-Nya. Perbedaan dua gaya inilah yang ditampilkan dalam bacaan Injil hari ini.Murid-murid Yohanes dan orang-orang Yahudi pada umumnya tidak menyadari bahwaYesus sebagai Tuhan sedang berada bersama mereka. Mereka menganggap Tuhansangat jauh, Ia harus dicari dan diminta kedatangan-Nya. Caranya ialah denganberpuasa. Sementara para rasul serta murid-murid Yesus sedang mengalami sukacita dan pesta karena Tuhan Yesus ada bersama mereka. Nanti ketika Yesus tidakbersama lagi dengan mereka, barulah mereka berpuasa. Bagi kita saat ini, puasa tetap penting, demikian juga pesta. Gereja telahmemberikan kesempatan yang teratur bagi kita sebagai umatnya untuk menjalankanitu sesuai dengan waktunya. Puasa personal sering menjadi pilihan ketika orangingin melakukan suatu latihan rohani tertentu. Pesta juga dilaksanakan baiksecara bersama maupun personal sebagai kesempatan merayakan kehadiran bersama,Tuhan dan manusia. Pokoknya, masing-masing dijalankan dengan baik, teratur dantak boleh dicampur-adukkan. Kita perlu saling menghormati saat ada kegiatanpesta dan puasa. Kita perlu menghindari perbuatan mengganggu dan intervensimereka yang berpuasa dan berpesta.    Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus Kristus, kami ingin mengikuti dengan patuhajaran-Mu tentang berpuasa dan bermati raga, maka kami mohon semoga kamidibimbing selalu di dalam Roh-Mu untuk dapat menjalankannya dengan benar danbaik. Ephesians 2: 19-22; Rs psalm 117: 1.2; John 20: 24-29.O MY LORD AND MY GOD Our meditation today has the theme: O My Lord and MyGod. This expression came from St. Thomas the Apostle, whose feast we celebratetoday in the Church. He was one of the 12 apostles who had also another nameDidymus, and was very well known as a person who had little faith and hard tobelieve in the risen Christ. He along with other apostles and many people in hisday had a perception of Jesus the Messiah who must become a king like the KingDavid who was powerful and believed to be able to liberate the people of Israelfrom all forms of occupation of foreign nations. But this perception as totallywrong. Jesus was found to be put to death in a shameful way by being crucifiedand died. This as clearly very disappointing to many people who alreadybelieved in the power of a Messiah. One of those people who were so disappointed was theapostle Thomas. Consequently, he chose to stay away, hid himself, afraid andmaybe thinking of choosing another way of life. Anyway he was very angry anddisappointed. The testimony of the women who met the risen Jesus, along withthe stories of other apostles who saw first hand Jesus who rose from the deaddid not give any light for Thomas to believe. He instead needed other evidencethat was stronger and not just a story telling. For him story or narration toldis equally bad as lie. If there is a big disappointment, we actually need anew spirit that is more superior in order to overcome it. This spirit is notenough from any human power and ability, but must be given from above, namelyGod himself who has divine intervention. Evidently, Jesus Himself came to givethe truth about Himself who had already risen. This should had been a suppertestimony and not jus stories. With the real presence of the risen Christ, theapostle Thomas was then able to change radically, signified by his powerfulconfession of faith, "O my Lord and my God". Everyone of us has experienced disappointment, despairand broken heart. They vary from small to big, or mild to severe. Whatever theconditions, such sufferings indeed require recovery. For those who experiencedisappointment, despair or severe broken heart, they are surely in need ofspiritual healing that is only through the Lord's intervention. When therecovery is acquired,  a new life isregained, enthusiasm grows again, and the confession of faith in God is strengthened. And so there is a wise advice for all of us. If weexperience suffering such as disappointment, despair or broken heart, let usrely on the strength and the mercy of God. We need to avoid being closed, sador even an act of blaming God because of this trouble. Every disappointment,despair or broken heart is in due will pass away. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... In your providence and mercy, O Lord,strengthen us to be always in Your love, especially when disappointment,despair and hear-broken come along our ways. May the Blessed Mother, theguardian angels and especially the apostle Thomas accompany us in thesedifficult moments. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Kalimat iniberasal dari Santo Tomas Rasul, yang pestanya kita rayakan pada hari ini. Iaadalah salah satu dari ke-12 rasul yang punya keunikan, selain namanya yangjuga disebut Didimus, ia sangat dikenal sebagai orang yang kurang percaya. Ia bersama para rasul lain dan banyak orang di zamannya mempunyai persepsitentang Yesus Mesias yang akan menjadi raja seperti Daud yang penuh kuasa danpembebas umat Israel dari segala bentuk penjajahan di dunia. Namun persepsi inisalah total. Yesus ternyata dihukum mati secara sangat memalukan dengandisalibkan dan wafat. Ini jelas sangat mengecewakan banyak orang yang sudahterlanjur percaya pada kekuatan seorang Mesias.  Salah satu yang kecewa berat ialah Rasul Tomas. Akibatnya ia memilihmenjauh, sembunyi, menyendiri dan mungkin berpikir untuk memilih jalan hidupyang lain. Pokoknya ia sangat kecewa. Kesaksian para wanita yang menemui Yesusyang bangkit, berikut kisah rekan-rekan rasul lainnya yang melihat langsungYesus yang bangkit, tidak dipercayai Tomas. Ia memerlukan bukti lain yang lebihkuat dan bukan sekedar cerita-cerita. Bagi dia jika hanya narasi, itu samadengan omong kosong.  Kecewa berat harus diatasi dengan semangat baru yang jauh lebih super.Semangat ini tak cukup diberikan oleh manusia, tapi harus diberikan dari atasyaitu Tuhan sendiri yang campur tangan. Maka Yesus sendiri yang datang untukmemberikan bukti dari diri-Nya sendiri yang bangkit. Ini baru namanya jauhlebih super. Dengan tindakan super ini, rasul Thomas dapat berubah secararadikal melalui pengakuan imannya yang amat kuat, “Tuhanku dan Allahku”.  Setiap dari kita pernah mengalami kecewa, putus asa dan sakit hati.Kondisinya bervariasi dari yang ringan sampai yang berat. Apa pun kondisinya,penderitaan seperti ini memerlukan pemulihan. Bagi mereka yang mengalamikecewa, putus asa atau sakit hati yang berat, tentu sangat memerlukanpengobatan rohani yang hanya melalui campur tangan Tuhan. Sehingga hidup barudiperoleh kembali,  semangatbertumbuh  lagi, dan pengakuan iman kepadaTuhan dikuatkan.  Maka nasihat yang bijak ialah, bila Anda mengalami penderitaan sepertikecewa berat, putus asa berat atau sakit hati berat, andalkan kekuatan dancampur tangan Tuhan. Hindari sikap menutup diri, menangisi diri bahkan yangpaling jelek ialah Tuhan dipersalahkan. Setiap kecewa, putus asa atau sakithati ada waktunya untuk berlalu pergi. Dan Tuhan menggantikan dengankehadiran-Nya yang menyelamatkan. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Di dalam penyelenggaraan dan kuasa-Mu, ya Bapa, kuatkanlahkami untuk selalu berada di dalam kasih-Mu terutama pada saat kecewa, putus asadan sakit hati menimpa diri kami. Amos 7: 10-17; Rs psalm 19: 8.9.10.11; Matthew 9: 1-8.TOTAL HEALING Our meditationtoday has the theme: Total Healing. There was a man known as a troublemaker inhis neighborhood. The people there were afraid of him. He was a drunkard and adrug user as well. Then he became a drug dealer whose actions were so brutal,especially towards someone who wanted to say or do something against him. Inshort, his mental state, moral values and faith have been very bad to allaround him. However, thepolice force finally succeeded in putting him down after a violence broke outin the city and he was noticed as the main figure who was the brain of theincident. Both of his legs were badly hit with two bullets sinking into themand he was almost completely paralyzed. In the end he had to spend days, monthsand years in prison. His neighborhood became safe and peaceful without him. Now there was areligious person who came to visit him regularly and that man was able toreceive proper spiritual accompaniment and formation. This man then acquired alot of spiritual experience and moral guidance during his life in prison. Allthese helps have benefitted him to have a new outlook from which he could begina new life. The change gradually occurred in him. When his term in prisonfinished and he was back to his family, he was truly a new person. He lookedfresh and healthy. His words and deeds, his way of understanding and behavingpleased everybody. His thought about life was open and full of wisdom. Hisfaith grew again. That man'sexperience is an example of a total healing. This type of healing is what JesusChrist wants to occur in us, which includes the aspects of physical, mental,social and spiritual growth. At that particular moment of His ministry, Jesusknew that the paralytic man was also a sinner so what He treated first in thatman was to cast out his sins by forgiving him. After that Jesus mended him fromhis physical sickness, then healed also his mind and soul. Many of us wantto be cured only partially, not wanting a total healing. Maybe we are justlooking for a certain physical or mental healing which is already sufficientfor us. A person may have recovered from stress and disappointment, but he orshe still has anger and a plan of revenge to the one who has disappointed himor her. People may feel comfortable after receiving the Sacrament ofReconciliation, but they do not regret their sins, thus they easily fall intothe same sins. All these indicate what we call the half recovery. This meansthat we are still sick. We need to point out certain parts of ourselves that have not yetbeen healed because we have not paid attention to healing. Those parts arelikely to be the barriers for making a total healing in ourselves. We need togive attention to this in order to obtain a complete recovery. Let us pray ... Inthe name of the Father ... O most holy Father, look upon us and heal us,especially the parts within us that have not been healed, because we tend toavoid being healed. Please grant us your grace of healing. Our Father who artin heaven ... In the name of the Father ...

Orang-orang di situ takutkepadanya. Ia mabuk seenaknya, pengguna sekaligus pengedar narkoba sangat aktifdan bertindak brutal kepada siapa pun yang menghalangi segala urusannya.Singkatnya, mental, moral dan imannya sudah sangat buruk.  Namun pihak polisi akhirnya berhasil melumpuhkan dia setelah terjaditindakan kekerasan di wilayah itu dan ia sebagai tokoh utama kejadian tersebut.Kedua kakinya terkena tembakan peluru dan ia nyaris lumpuh total. Pada akhirnyaia melewatkan hari-hari, bulan-bulan dan tahun-tahun di penjara. Wilayahnyamenjadi aman dan damai tanpa dia. Untuk kesekian kalinya lelaki ini dikunjungi pemimpin agamanya supaya iamemperoleh pembinaan rohani. Banyak sekali pengalaman rohani dan bimbinganmoral yang ia peroleh selama di penjara. Semua itu membantunya untuk membuathidupnya menjadi baru. Perlahan-lahan perubahan itu terjadi. Setelah keluarpenjara, ia sungguh seorang pribadi yang baru. Fisiknya menjadi segar dansehat, tutur kata, sopan santun, sikap hidup menjadi sangat baik.Pengetahuannya tentang kehidupan luas dan terbuka. Imannya tumbuh kembali.  Pengalaman lelaki ini merupakan contoh tentang kesembuhan total. Jeniskesembuhan ini yang diinginkan Yesus Kristus, yang meliputi fisik, mental,rohani, relasi sosial. Yesus mengetahui bahwa orang yang disembuhkan itu penuhdengan dosa. Maka yang dilakukan-Nya pertama ialah menghapus dosa-dosanyadengan mengampuninya. Sesudah itu baru menyembuhkan dia dari sakit fisiknya danmemulihkan pikiran serta jiwanya. Banyak di antara kita ingin sembuh sebagian saja, bukan total. Mungkinmereka hanya mencari kesembuhan fisik atau mental tertentu sementara kesembuhandiri secara total diabaikan. Seorang mungkin telah sembuh dari stress dan sakit hati, namun ia masihdendam dan marah kepada orang yang telah mengecewakannya. Orang mungkin merasanyaman setelah menerima sakramen tobat, tetapi ia tidak menyesaliperbuatan-perbuatannya maka ia jatuh kembali ke dosa-dosa yang sama. Semua inimenandakan kesembuhan yang hanya sebagian. Dengan demikian berarti mereka masihsakit.  Kita perlu menandai bagian-bagian mana di dalam diri kita yang masih belumdisembuhkan karena selama ini tidak diupayakan untuk sembuh. Bagian itu sangatmungkin menjadi penghalang untuk terjadinya kesembuhan total di dalam diriKita. Berikan perhatian kepadanya agar dapat sembuh total. Marilah kita berdoa...Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Bapa, jika ternyata masih ada bagian-bagian di dalam dirikami yang belum sembuh semuanya, karena kami cenderung mengelakkan diri untukdisembuhkan, berikanlah kami kesembuhannya. Amos 5: 14-15.21-24; Rs psalm 50: 7.8-9.10-11.12-13.16bc-17; Matthew 8: 28-34.PRICE OF A LIBERATION Our meditation today has the theme: Price of aLiberation. An act of liberation requires physical, mental and spiritualstrength. For example, the acquisition of land held by an unauthorized partyrequires the support of security and law enforcement. Liberation from ignorancerequires a level of knowledge and intellectual abilities from schools andstudies. Liberation from the power of evil spirits requires the power of theHoly Spirit from the almighty and heavenly God. The prophet Amos's prophecy during the exile of theIsraelites affirmed that God's people must free themselves from evil andblasphemous acts, so that the Lord of the universe may grant them justice andbe their helper for all times. Likewise, in the case of so many evil spiritsthat possessed the two persons, were driven out by Jesus and the two werefinally liberated. The evil spirits then were sent out to the pigs whichdrowned in the sea. The people in that area where Jesus was driving out demonsinsisted Jesus to immediately leave their place, because they were afraid thatJesus would bring other powerful forces to threaten them. The price of a liberation can be made throughpurification and selection which lead to a better progress. When there is nomore obstacle or disturbance, our life become safe and people will live inpeace. The growth in both physical and spiritual aspects has opportunity toprogress. Two persons who were freed from the power of evil spirits returned toa normal life and they proclaimed to others the glory and the goodness of theLord. However, there will be also negative effect that weshould be aware of. In any liberation act, there is always the excluded partythat will create a new problem. The one who is eliminated can be the weakparty, or those who might have the power to take revenge. New problems canarise because there are jealousy, anger and resentment that grow in those whoare the losers. For this matter, the price of liberation will be obviously bigand expensive. When conflicts come again, more victims will be the outcomes. When a liberation act is done in a proper way and inconcern with the principle of win-win solution, or not simply a losing andwinning game, the positive outcome will be certainly much expected and itbrings us joy and peace in our living together. But when a liberation act onlyfollows the principle of victory and defeat, a new problem is just awaiting forus soon or later. Jesus does not want to leave us problems withoutsolutions. He wants us not to give up in pursuing justice and seeking thetruth, even though we have to deal with obstacles until we are willing tosacrifice ourselves. This is the path chosen by the Lord Jesus. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, we pray that through Your wordtoday, we will not give up and back off with the problems we face, but we areready to face them. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... Suatutindakan pembebasan memerlukan kekuatan fisik, mental dan rohani. Misalnyapembebasan lahan yang dikuasai pihak yang tak berhak atas tanah itu memerlukandukungan sekuriti dan penegakan hukum. Pembebasan dari kebodohan memerlukanperangkat ilmu pengetahuan dan kemampuan intelektual dari sekolah dan studi.Pembebasan dari kuasa roh jahat memerlukan kekuatan Roh Kudus dari kuasa Allahyang maha tinggi. Nubuat nabi Amos pada masa pembuangan menegaskan bahwa umat Tuhan harusmembebaskan diri dari perbuatan jahat dan yang menajiskan supaya Tuhan semestaalam menegakkan keadilan dan mengasihani mereka sepanjang masa. Demikian jugaroh-roh jahat begitu banyak yang merasuk dua orang, didesak oleh Yesus sehinggadua orang kerasukan itu dibebaskan. Roh-roh jahat itu mendesak masuk kebabi-babi yang akhirnya mati tenggelam di laut. Orang-orang di wilayah itumendesak supaya Yesus segera meninggalkan tempat mereka, karena mereka takutYesus akan membawa malapetaka bagi mereka. Harga suatu tindakan pembebasan dapat berupa pemurnian dan penjernihan yangmembawa kemajuan yang lebih baik. Jika penghalang atau pengganggu tidak adalagi, tentu saja kehidupan menjadi lebih aman dan damai, lalu pertumbuhan baikjasmani dan rohani mendapat kesempatan untuk maju. Dua orang yang dibebaskanroh-roh jahat kembali normal dan mewartakan kemuliaan dan kebaikan yang mahatinggi kepada orang lain. Namun ada juga harga pembebasan dapat berupa efek negatif karena pihak yangtersingkir akan menciptakan problem yang baru. Yang tersingkir bisa saja pihakyang lemah, bisa juga mereka yang memiliki kekuatan untuk membalas dendam.Problem baru dapat muncul karena iri hati, marah dan benci tumbuh di dalampihak-pihak yang berlawanan. Untuk hal ini, harga pembebasan itu akan sangatbesar dan mahal. Konflik dapat muncul kembali dan akan menelan lagi korban. Jika pembebasan itu dilakukan secara baik, teratur dan sangat memperhatikanprinsip win-win solution alias tidakdidasari aturan kalah dan menang, buah positifnya tentu sangat bernilai danmendatangkan suka cita dan damai bersama. Namun jika pembebasan itu hanyamengikuti prinsip kemenangan menghempaskan kekalahan, problem baru sudah menunggu kita di depan. Yesus tidak ingin meninggalkan kita masalah tanpa solusi. Ia menghendakisupaya kita tak boleh menyerah dalam menegakkan keadilan dan mengusahakankebenaran, meski harus berhadapan dengan penghalang-penghalang sampai kita relamengorbankan diri kita. Ini adalah jalan yang dipilih oleh Tuhan Yesus. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Acts of the Apostles 12: 1-11; Rs psalm 34: 2-3.4-5.6-7.8-9; 2 Timothy 4: 6-8.17-18; Matthew 16: 13-19.TWO CHURCH DOOR HINGES Our meditation today has the theme: Two Church DoorHinges. There was a parish priest who was visiting his people far in thehighlands, far from the local parish church. He found in one of the missionstations a church door that was almost dislodged from where it hung. The mainreason was because the two door hinges had already broken. If the two hingesdislodged completely, then the church door could no longer function as itshould be. The priest spoke with the person in charge of thecommunity station to immediately install new hinges and the church door wouldfunction again. The church cannot be left open because wild animals can enterand cause damages in it. But there were no shops in the village to find newhinges. If they had to buy, they must go to a city that takes about two days.However, the priest found in his bag two hinges already used. The two hingeswere then attached to the church door, even though they were not uniform andnot compatible with the church door.                                                                                                           If we view and understand our Church from thespiritual perspective, which is the People of God, we can describe two profileswho were the foundation of the Church, namely St. Peter and St Paul, with thetwo hinges of the church's door we have just illustrated. Since this holyChurch was founded, these two apostles had played a very important role inmaking the Church's door to function properly. The assignment they receivedfrom Jesus Christ truly made them witnesses of a faith in God that was so genuine. Saints Peter and Paul had pioneered to us  a genuine and dedicated faith to our LordJesus Christ. Peter was the key figure who united, strengthened and rooted ourfaith in Christ. His recognition of Jesus Christ is for us the veryfoundational faith professed on which the faith of the Church is recognized.Paul was a missionary and an inclusive Church man, which in essence gives usthe value of universality of the Church. He testified that he had carried outthat missionary duty to the ends of the earth, to the limits of this world.                                                                                     So the faith testimony of the two apostles to the endof their lives through their martyrdom in Rome, inspired our Church a lifetimededication and commitment to Christ to the end of her long journey of faith. Wemust also be able to follow the example of these two great apostles. Let's giveour two thumbs up for Saints Peter and Paul, two thumbs up for each of us andall of us, all of which we always proud of. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O merciful and generous Lord, look upon usYour sons and daughters who learn from the example of Saints Peter and Paulabout the precious commitment and dedication to You and the Church. Ada seorangpastor paroki sedang mengunjungi umatnya yang tinggal jauh di pedalaman, yangjauh dari pusat paroki. Di salah satu stasi ia menemukan pintu gereja yanghampir copot dari tempatnya bergantung. Alasan utamanya ialah karena dua engselpintu itu sudah nyaris putus. Jika keduanya putus total, maka pintu gerejatidak bisa lagi berfungsi sebagaimana mestinya. Pastor berbicara dengan penanggung jawab stasi supaya segera memasangengsel baru dan pintu gereja berfungsi kembali. Gereja tidak bisa dibiarkanterbuka karena binatang liar dapat masuk dan membuat kerusakan di dalamnya.Namun tidak ada toko di kampung untuk mendapatkan engsel baru. Jika harusmembeli, orang harus pergi ke kota yang memakan waktu sekitar dua hari. Namundemikian, pastor menemukan di dalam tasnya ada dua engsel yang sudah bekaspakai. Dua engsel itu kemudian dipasangkan ke pintu gereja tersebut, meskipunkeduanya tidak seragam dan tidak sepadan dengan pintu gereja.   Kalau kita memandang dan memahami Gereja kita secara rohani, yaitu umatAllah, kita dapat menggambarkan dua profil yang merupakan fondasi Gereja, yaituSanto Petrus dan Paulus, dengan dua engsel pintu gereja tadi. Sejak Gereja yangkudus ini berdiri, kedua rasul ini berperan sangat penting untuk membuat pintuGereja berfungsi dengan sesungguhnya. Tugas yang mereka terima dari YesusKristus sungguh menjadikan mereka saksi-saksi iman yang unggul. Keunggulan dan dedikasi iman yang amat tinggi telah dirintis oleh Petrusdan Paulus bagi kita. Petrus adalah figur kepala yang mempersatukan, menguatkandan mengakarkan iman kita kepada Kristus. Pengakuannya akan Yesus Kristusmerupakan pegangan iman sangat dasar yang menjadi pengakuan iman Gereja. Paulusadalah figur Gereja yang misioner dan inklusif, yang pada intinya memberikannilai universalitas Gereja. Ia bersaksi telah melakukan tugas misioner itusampai ke ujung bumi, sampai garis batas dunia ini.  Jadi jasa mereka berdua yang memang sampai akhir hayatnya, meninggalsebagai martir di Roma, meninggalkan kepada Gereja kita untuk sepanjang masasuatu dedikasi dan komitmen kepada Kristus sampai batas terakhir perjalananpanjang hidupnya. Kita juga mesti dapat mengikuti teladan kedua rasul ulungini. Dua jempol kita untuk Petrus dan Paulus, dua jempol juga buat kitamasing-masing dan kita semua, untuk menunjukkan tanda kebanggaan kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Naturally, we are happy because there are things or happenings thatare good and pleasant. However, the cross is a very shameful and painful thing.The cross signifies the most severe punishment. So if we become happy to carrythe cross, this is an irony. There is a lot of irony and  something doesn't make sense to us aboutJesus Christ. The coming of the Son of God into the world and becoming JesusChrist is beyond our common sense. His choice to obey the Father's will, bycarrying the disgraceful cross and dying on it, cannot enter into our normalunderstanding. He is truly God but He has such a bad reputation. However, Jesus himself had proven that through thecross the best form of love is manifested. The cross is a symbol of sacrificeand suffering that the Lord Jesus had put on us. His own experience is enoughto teach us that we will obtain happiness after bearing our crosses in thisworld. This teaching also suits the understanding of most people in the worldin their belief that there is light after dark, there is success afterstruggle, there is money after working hard. With this concept in mind, it is appropriate for us tohave a positive understanding and attitude about the cross. We are invited onthis Sunday to be happy in carrying out whatever cross we have, however heavyit may be. There are various crosses with different weights. The sins andmistakes we have committed are certainly burdens of the cross itself and theyhave their own weight. They really affect our lives. The cross in the form of sacrifice our personalinterests and doing mortification also have its weight that often makes usdepressed. For example Jesus' command that we should love Him more than our ownparents and brothers and sisters, and that we can lose our lives because webelieve in him, these are obviously heavy crosses that we bear. The command tobe generous and do good, such as welcoming the Lord, a messenger of God, andour neighbors, is also a burden we must bear. Welcoming others, especially the strangers and ourenemies, is also our heavy burden. But in the name of love, we must sacrificeour interests and freedom so we can meet and provide services to them. All ofthis is our cross. And there is a wise advice for us is that we should be happywith these crosses. Let'spray. In the name of the Father... Secaranatural, kita mengalami kebahagiaan karena ada hal atau sesuatu yang baik danmenyenangkan. Namun demikian, salib merupakan benda yang sangat memalukan danmenyakitkan. Salib menandakan hukuman yang paling berat. Maka kalau kitamenjadi bahagia dengan salib, ini merupakan ironi. Ada banyak ironi dan yang tidak masuk ke akal kita tentang Yesus Kristus.Kedatangan Putra Allah ke dalam dunia dan menjadi Yesus Kristus adalah di luarakal sehat kita. Pilihannya untuk taat kepada kehendak Bapa, dengan caramemikul salib yang hina dan wafat di atasnya, tidak bisa masuk ke pemahamannormal, bahwa Dia sebagai Tuhan tetapi bernasib sial seperti demikian. Namun demikian, Yesus sendiri telah membuktikan bahwa melalui salib itucinta kasih yang tertinggi diwujudkan. Salib merupakan simbol pengorbanan danpenderitaan yang ditandai Tuhan Yesus kepada kita. Pengalaman-Nya sendiri sudahcukup mengajarkan kita bahwa kita akan mendapatkan kebahagiaan setelahmenanggung salib kita di dunia ini. Pengajaran ini juga cocok dengan pemahamankebanyakan orang di dunia bahwa ada terang setelah gelap, ada kesuksesansetelah perjuangan, ada uang setelah bekerja keras. Dengan adanya konsep keyakinan ini, sangat pantas bagi kita untuk memilikisikap yang positif terhadap salib. Pada hari minggu ini kita diajak untukmenjadi bahagia dalam memikul salib apa pun yang ada pada kita, betapa punberatnya. Ada bermacam-macam salib dengan beratnya yang berbeda-beda. Dosa dankesalahan yang telah kita perbuat merupakan beban salib tersendiri dan hal itutentu memiliki beratnya tersendiri dan mempunyai pengaruh yang berbeda. Salib dalam bentuk pengorbanan kepentingan pribadi dan mati raga jugamemiliki beratnya yang sering membuat diri kita tertekan. Misalnya perintahYesus supaya kita harus dapat mencintai Dia lebih daripada kepada orang tua dansaudara-saudari kita sendiri, dan supaya kita dapat kehilangan nyawa kita demiDia, ini merupakan salib-salib yang berat. Perintah untuk bermurah hati danberbuat baik, seperti menyambut diri-Nya, seorang utusan Tuhan, dan sesamakita, juga merupakan bagian dari beban yang harus kita pikul. Penyambutan orang lain, terutama mereka yang tidak kita kenal dan yangmenjadi musuh kita, merupakan beban yang berat. Namun karena cinta kasih, kitaharus mengorbankan perasaan dan kebebasan kita supaya dapat bertemu danmemberikan pelayanan kepada mereka. Semua ini adalah salib. Dan nasihat bijakbuat kita ialah bahwa kita hendaknya bahagia dengan salib-salib ini. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Hospitality is part of courtesy that deals with matters aboutwelcoming and serving friends, acquaintances or guests who come to us. Theyexperience our hospitality and know that they are truly esteemed. Many storiesin the scriptures show people visiting each other and they were treated sofriendly and cordial. Hospitality does not depend on the guest who comes, nomatter he is important, rich and smart or ordinary, poor and uneducated person.This is very dependent on the generosity and good will of the host. If theforeign guests who come to us are people of such difficulties like the city ofJerusalem whose inhabitants had been destroyed by the Assyrians and taken intoexile in Babylon, a friendly welcome must also be given to them. God himselflistened and comforted them. Jesus Christ welcomed the Centurion who was not abeliever, and then this made that stranger a believer. The hospitality that is shown with kindness and love,also bears  its fruit in love andkindness. Those guests served acquire a dignity of being part of the life ofthe one who offers hospitality and a friendship is built. But there issomething more than that, namely the reward from the Lord will be reallysomething extraordinary. The healing of the servant of Centurion was rewardedwith faith that grew from the person and his family who were non believers. There was a couple who made a promise at the moment oftheir marriage, that the family members from each of them must be welcomedcordially in their house. Their in-laws in whatever condition they are, must betreated respectfully. When the wife's ailing father came to stay in their housefor a better care, the husband seemed to be rather uncomfortable with thepresence of his father in-law, but because of the promise he had made from hismarriage, he was willing to welcome him kindly and so willingly to take care ofhim. He must remove all his complaints, discomfort, or boredom. If hospitality is accompanied with complaints,objections or expressions of half-hearted acceptance, it's better not towelcome and not to have guests. Because when it is forced, hospitality losesits value, and there will be no sweet hospitality, but a bitter welcome.Hospitality must be natural and strengthened by love. Let it be offeredproperly and freely like water flowing in an unstoppable canal. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, You teach us that wemust wait in readiness to serve the guest who comes even at midnight. Banyak kisah di dalam kitab suci menunjukkan orang saling berkunjungdan mereka diterima dengan ramah.                                                        Sikap yang ramah tidak bergantung pada siapa tamu yang datang, tidak pedulidia orang penting, kaya dan pandai, orang biasa, miskin dan bodoh. Sikap inisangat bergantung pada kerelaan dan kemauan baik tuan rumah. Seandainya tamuasing yang datang adalah orang-orang yang sedang sangat susah seperti Yerusalemyang para penghuninya telah dihancurkan bangsa Asyur, penyambutan yang ramahjuga sepatutnya diberikan. Tuhan sendiri yang mendengarkan dan menghiburmereka. Yesus Kristus menyambut seorang perwira Romawi yang bukan seorangberiman, dan ini membuat orang asing tersebut percaya. Keramahtamahan yang diberikan dalam kebaikan dan cinta kasih, berbuah jugadi dalam kasih. Orang yang dilayani mendapatkan status baru yaitu menjadibagian dari hidup pihak penyambut dan persahabatan terbentuk. Tetapi lebih dariitu ialah pahala yang datang dari Tuhan sungguh sesuatu yang tak terduga.Penyembuhan atas hamba perwira tersebut dibalas dengan iman yang tumbuh dariorang dan keluarganya yang belum beriman. Ada sepasang suami-istri membuat kesepakatan sejak pernikahan mereka, bahwaanggota keluarga dari masing-masing pihak harus dapat diterima dengan ramah dirumah mereka. Mertua dan ipar-ipar dalam keadaan apa pun mereka, harus dapatditerima. Pada waktu ayah sang istri yang sedang sakit akan menginap di rumah,suami tampaknya agak kurang nyaman dengan keberadaan mertuanya itu, tetapikarena janji yang sudah dibuat sejak pernikahan, maka ia rela menyambut denganramah dan ikut merawat mertuanya itu. Ia harus menghilangkan segala macamkeluhan, rasa tidak nyaman, atau rasa bosan. Jika keramahtamahan disertai dengan keluhan, keberatan atau ungkapanpenerimaan setengah hati, lebih baik tidak usah ada penyambutan dan tidak usahmemiliki tamu. Karena kalau dipaksakan saja, keramahtamahan itu kehilangannilainya. Tidak akan terjadi keramahtamahan yang manis, tetapi suatupenyambutan yang pahit. Keramahtamahan harus natural dan dikuatkan oleh cintakasih. Biarlah itu diberikan secara baik dan lancar seperti air mengalir disaluran yang tak terbendung.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Tuhan Yesus Kristus, Engkau mengajarkan supaya kamiharus menunggu dalam keadaan siap sedia untuk melayani tuan rumah yang datanghingga tengah malam. Semoga kami selalu bersikap ramah kepada siapa pun,meskipun itu mungkin memberikan kami rasa kurang nyaman atau  mendatangkan kerugian. Bapa kami yang ada disurga ... Dalam nama Bapa ...

There are numerous instructions and adviceto wash our hands before eating or drinking, or to ensure we are clean andodor-free when we meet others. We are truly expected not to give those aroundus a bad impression or be afraid to meet us simply because our bodies are dirtyand unhygienic. The purification refers to a person who has dirty orsores on the body and stains at the skin, that he needs to be cleansed, curedand restored to a smooth and healthy body. In Jesus' day, cleansing orpurification was associated with the lepers who were in dire need of cleansingof their affected bodies. With this cleansing, they could be accepted back intothe family and society. Jesus always provided healing both physical andspiritual, so this type of healing is a purification for soul and body. In today's world, the latest advancement of scienceand technology can indeed provide many solutions to the problems we face. Butthis cannot provide a complete healing of soul and body in all of us. To have acomplete healing, we need the power and strength of God. Faith and hope give usconfidence that our comfort and feeling at home in daily life must be our beingwith the Lord. Our soul will eventually find a perfect place to dwell which isto live forever with God. So our purification in general and very fundamentalshould be the cleansing of ourselves and the recovery of our difficulties.Perhaps many of us want that all our illnesses, difficulties and shortcomingsneed to be responded by God. That's why we dream a lot and ask for many andgreater things. Perhaps we have so much to ask for, then we forget to ask whatis the priority of our choices, namely the goodness and salvation of our souls.If we follow the example of the leper described in today's Gospel passage, weshould ask for something very essential for our purification. Our dirty andbroken souls because of sin and evil are in need of purification. What isessential is the salvation of our souls. God knows the contents of our hearts and minds. Thismeans He knows our needs. It is very wise for us to ask God what we really needand He already knows everything.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... In Your mercy and providence, O Lord, giveus what we need today, so that we can fulfill what is the interest of ourbodies and souls. In your power and love, we surrender fully our every will andconduct. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Setiap dari kita mendambakan kehidupan yang baik dan sehat. Kesehatanmenjadi salah satu prioritas dalam menjalani kehidupan ini, sebab dengankesehatan yang baik dan tubuh yang kuat maka aktivitas-aktivitas kita di dalamdunia saat ini akan berjalan dengan baik pula. Kita memang mempunyai segalacara untuk memperoleh kesehatan yang kita inginkan, namun tubuh kita sebagaimanusia tetap ada keterbatasannya.  Hidup di zaman ini yang sangat maju dengankecanggihannya ternyata membawa sakit kepada banyak manusia, baik fisik maupunmental, tubuh maupun jiwa. Yang lebih rentan ialah jiwa. Jiwa manusia mulaiterikat pada hal dan barang duniawi lalu memberi ruang kepada Iblis untukmembuat nyaman pada manusia serta menutup kesempatan bagi manusia untuk bersatudengan Allah. Manusia mulai kurang percaya pada Allah dan terus memakai pikirandan ide-idenya sendiri sehingga membuatnya terkenal. Tanpa disadari hal inimenciptakan keterpisahan dirinya dari Allah.  Manusia lebih memilih kehidupan dengan gayanyayang instan namun ternyata melukai jiwanya sendiri. Jiwa ini perlahan mengalamikehilangan apa yang dituntut oleh Allah, yaitu dasar iman dan buah-buah Roh.Kedamaian, suka cita dan kasih diganti dengan amarah, benci, keserakahan. Inimerupakan sakit dalam kehidupan masa kini. Kita perlu sembuh. Kita butuhpentahiran.    Tuhan Yesus dalam bacaan Injil hari ini menjamahdan menyembuhkan orang yang sakit kusta yang datang memohon dengan penuhkerendahan hati dan iman yang besar. Ia rindu untuk sembuh. Sakit kusta adalahsakit yang sangat menyakitkan dan dijauhi oleh orang-orang di sekitar, dibuangatau disingkirkan. Ia sesungguhnya sakit fisik dan metal, tubuh dan jiwanya.Tuhan Yesus hadir dengan belaskasih-Nya yang merangkul, memberkati danmenyembuhkan dengan kasih-Nya. Untuk sembuh, kita perlu belajar dari orang sakitkusta tersebut. Kita perlu menyadari bahwa kita juga orang-orang sakit. Kitaorang-orang berdosa. Kita perlu Tuhan Yesus. Kita mohon dengan tulusbelaskasih-Nya, kita datang kepada-Nya dengan iman yang besar dansungguh-sungguh lalu memberikan diri kita untuk disembuhkan dari sakit,kelemahan dan kedosaan. Setelah sembuh, hendaklah kita selalu menjaga relasidengan Allah agar tidak kembali goyah dan rusak seperti sebelumnya, tetapi kitamenjadi saksi-saksi-Nya di dalam dunia saat ini. Sebab dengan jamahan Tuhanyang menyembuhkan itu, beban hidup kita menjadi ringan dan tahirlah kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Allah Bapa, kami bersyukur atas sabda-Mu yang hidupdalam diri Yesus yang adalah palung sungai yang menyegarkan jiwa kami yang hausakan kehadiran-Mu. Kami mohon, tetapkanlah selalu di dasar hati kami semangat membacadan merenungkan firman-Mu sebagai jalan, kebenaran dan hidup kami agar kamitidak sakit lagi, sebab firman-Mu sungguh menyembuhkan kami. When Jesus spoke about a house or building that was notstrong enough against rain, floods and hurricanes that would destroy it, He wasin line with the thought of the writer of Proverbs who said: "Whenhurricanes hit, sinners are destroyed, but the righteous will lastforever" (Prov 10.25). There were two mothers who were sharing stories abouttheir children who are currently studying in the city. Each lives in adifferent city. Parents and their respective families in the village reallyhope that their children are diligent in their spiritual life even though theymust also study with all their efforts. While still at home and before going tocollege, they were so committed in personal prayers, family prayer together,Sunday Masses and other Catholic youth activities. When they are already far from home, the story hasbecome different. One of those two students has a happy story. The atmospherein the boarding house where he lives, bonding with friends and environment incampus lead him to grow better in the spiritual aspect. His personal prayerhabit becomes stronger and he involves also in youth activities in the local parishChurch. He attends Mass every Sunday, even he goes also for the daily Masses.This student is a spiritual stone house, as described by Jesus in today'sGospel. The story about the other student is very different.His environment in the city has transformed him into a young person who is outof his family's expectation. He becomes a hard-tempered person and he alsoinvolved in crimes. Several times he was targeted by the security forces but healways escaped. His spiritual life is in danger. He recognizes himself as abeliever who has faith in Jesus Christ, but his real life was very much inconflict with his faith. This young man is an example of a sand house buildingthat is also illustrated by today's Gospel. Faith that grows as a stone house is a life lived bybelievers with two important characteristics, namely listening to the words ofGod and practicing them. Instead those who listen but do not put them intopractice, belong to the life of faith as a house made of sand. In our lives,there are often these two types of people live together in one family,community, environment, and the Church. Here the real test takes place. Each istrying to win. If the stone house of faith becomes stronger, thepower and glory of God will rule our entire lives. But if the sand house isstronger, then disasters will soon hit our lives, such as the bitter experienceof the Israelites who were defeated and put in to exiled in Babylon. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, bless us with the growth of ourhealthy and mature faith that we may contribute in the growth of the Kingdom inthis world. Our Father who art in heaven ...
