Isaiah 11: 1-10; Rs psalm 72: 2.7-8.12-13.17; Luke 10: 21-24.THEHOLY SPIRIT IS IN YOU Ourmeditation today is entitled: The Holy Spirit is in You. There was a celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation in a remote parish. The bishop came to that parish one day before the celebration. Candidates for theSacrament of Confirmation weremore than 300 people. Most of them come from various villages which are locatedfar apart from one another. Theyare young people, the majority of whom are teenagers. They walked along pathsup the mountain and down the valley. They were willing to get caught in the rain andstruggle to tread slippery and muddy roads. Their new and clean clothes were wrapped in such a way so as not to getwet and dirty. They walked along the waybarefoot. Duringthe homily at Holy Mass, the Bishop encouraged all the young recipients of theSacrament of Confirmation, saying: “You have the Holy Spirit within you. ThisHoly Spirit does not stay silent or hide, but He really works and controlsyou.” All the young people who came from faraway villages agreed with what theshepherd said. The Spirit of God really burned their spirits from the momentthey departed from their respective villages until the time they received thesign of the anointing of the power of the Holy Spirit by the Bishop. TheHoly Spirit has power to fill the person who receives it and makes him amissionary. The fullness of the Holy Spirit is expressed by the first readingof the book of the prophet Isaiah today, which says that the Spirit of God gives him the Spirit of wisdom andunderstanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and piety, and the Spirit of fear of God. Those hundreds of young recipients of theSacrament of Confirmation and all of us who have been gifted with the HolySpirit on theoccasions of Sacrament of Confirmation in the past, are missionaries. We have received the HolySpirit who fills us, and we are sent to our respective places to be witnessesfor Christ. The world around us, especially those around us, have the right toreceive God's blessings through our good deeds that are full of love from the testimony of ourlives. Today'sreadings mention two basic legitimacy for someone who is sent. A messenger inthe ministry of word, sacrament, love and pastoral not in his own name, but inthe name of Jesus Christ and is filled with the Holy Spirit. To carry out thistask, he incarnates or unites with the local context and people where he livesand works. Thus his missionary spirit is real and true. Let's pray. In the name of theFather... Uskup datang ke paroki itusatu hari sebelum perayaan tersebut. Para calon penerima Sakramen Penguatanyang berjumlah lebih dari 300 orang. Sebagian besar dari mereka datang dariberbagai kampung yang letaknya berjauhan satu sama lain. Mereka adalah orang-orang muda yang mayoritas kaumremaja. Mereka berjalan kaki melewati jalan-jalan setapak menaiki gunung andmenuruni lembah. Mereka rela kehujanan dan bersusah payah menapaki jalan-jalanlicin dan berlumpur. Pakaian-pakaian mereka yang baru dan bersih dibungkussedemikian rupa sehingga tidak basah dan kotor. Mereka berjalan beramai-ramaidengan tanpa alas kaki. Pada saat homili dalam Misa Kudus, Uskup menguatkanhati semua orang muda penerima Sakramen Penguatan, dengan berkata: “Di dalamdiri kalian ada Roh Kudus. Roh Kudus ini tidak tinggal diam atau bersembunyi,namun Ia sungguh bekerja dan menguasai diri kalian.” Semua orang muda yangdatang dari berbagai kampung yang jauh itu mengamini apa yang dikatakan sanggembala. Roh Tuhan sungguh membakar semangat mereka sejak berangkat darikampungnya masing-masing sampai saat mereka menerima tanda pengurapan kuasa RohKudus oleh Uskup. Roh Kudus berkuasa memenuhi diri orang yangmenerimanya dan menjadikan dia seorang misioner. Kepenuhan dengan Roh Kudus itudiungkapkan oleh bacaan pertama dari kitab nabi Yesaya pada hari ini, yangmengatakan bahwa Roh Tuhan mengaruniai dia Roh hikmat dan pengertian, Rohpenasihat dan keperkasaan, Roh pengenal dan kesalehan, dan Roh takut akanAllah.  Ratusan remaja penerima Sakramen Penguatan tersebutdan semua dari kita yang telah dikaruniai Roh Kudus dalam kesempatan Krisma dimasa lalu, adalah para misioner. Kita telah menerima Roh Kudus yang memenuhidiri kita, dan kita diutus ke tempat kita masing-masing untuk menjadisaksi-saksi Kristus. Dunia di sekitar kita, khusus sesama yang ada di sekitarkita berhak untuk mendapatkan berkat Tuhan melalui semua perbuatan baik yangpenuh kasih dari kesaksian hidup kita. Bacaan-bacaan pada hari ini menyebutkan dua legitimasidasar bagi seseorang yang diutus. Seorang utusan dalam pelayanan firman,sakramen, kasih dan pastoral tidak atas nama dirinya sendiri, tetapi atas namaYesus Kristus dan dipenuhi oleh Roh Kudus. Untuk menjalankan tugasnya itu, iaberinkarnasi atau menyatu dengan konteks dan orang-orang setempat di mana iahidup dan bekerja. Dengan demikian semangat misionernya sungguh nyata danbenar. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus,semoga kami semakin tekun menjalankan perutusan-Mu di tempat tugas kamimasing-masing. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putra dan Roh Kudus ... Dalam nama Bapa...

Isaiah 2: 1-5; Rs psalm 122: 1-2.3-4a; Matthew 8: 5-11.PEOPLE FROM ALLCORNERS OF THE WORLD HEAR THE LORD'S CALL  The title for our meditation today is: People from All Corners of theWorld Hear the Lord's Call. The priest's sermon at the Mass of the first Sundayof Advent focused on the theme of self-preparation. In conclusion, he said thatin the end there are two groups of people who respond to God's call about doingpreparation. Those who prepare themselves are those who truly andwholeheartedly welcome the Lord. While those who don't prepare are those whodon't welcome wholeheartedly. After the Mass therewas a discussion in a family. A mother brought some good news for the wholefamily. Her husband and children almost believed that the mother was planning aChristmas party at home, guests to be invited, and the New Year celebration forall the extended families. But it turned out that the good news from the motherwas not of their expectation. However, that news would not disturb their Christmas and New Year celebration. The good news is thattheir close neighbor family consisting of husband, wife and three childrendecided to join the Catholic Church. They were non Catholics yet. The motherwho is also a parochial activist would help them to register as catechumens andto accompany them during the period of catechumenate. What a good news comingat the beginning of Advent! Today our readings proclaim about all corners ofthe world listening to the voice of God's call, and they follow it. From a particularpoint of view, those who are usually expected to listen to God and showobedience to Him are those who believe and are included as members in theChurch. It is similar to say that children are required to behave well and areobedient to their parents. Expecting such attitudes from children of otherfamilies and even strangers is certainly impossible. The book of the prophetIsaiah clearly illustrates that a select group of people and the chosen onesare the successors to maintain the glory in the house of God. In this house, theLord Jesus Christ dwells as the glorious king, the king of all people. The LordJesus indeed perfects the call to all people on earth. He was sent by theFather to everyone, and not only to a group of people. Thus, the foreigner anda non Jewish person like the officer in Capernaum also had his place in theLord's heart. He Instead represents the humanity from all corners of the earthwho hear and come to meet the Lord. This non believer officer reminds all of usthat in this Advent season we are required to listen and come to God to receiveblessings from Him.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Pada kesimpulannya, Romo mengatakan bahwa akhirnya ada duakelompok orang yang memberikan tanggapannya atas panggilan Tuhan untukpersiapan diri. Mereka yang mempersiapkan dirinya adalah mereka yang sungguhdan sepenuh hati menyambut Tuhan. Sedangkan mereka yang tidak mempersiapkandiri adalah yang tidak dengan sepenuh hati. Setelah Misa terjadi diskusi di sebuah rumah keluarga. Ibumenyampaikan sebuah kabar baik bagi seluruh keluarga. Suami dan anak-anaknyahampir percaya kalau rencana Ibu adalah persiapan perayaan Natal di rumah,tamu-tamu yang akan diundang, dan sampai ke perayaan Tahun Baru bagi segenapkeluarga besar. Tetapi ternyata kabar baik dari ibu justru di luar dugaanmereka semua. Kabar itu tidak akan mengurangi perayaan suka cita keluargamereka. Kabar baru itu ialah bahwa tetangga mereka yang terdiridari suami-istri dan tiga anak memutuskan untuk masuk menjadi anggota GerejaKatolik. Ibu yang juga sebagai pengurus lingkungan akan membantu keluarga ituuntuk pendaftaran katekumen dan selanjutnya persiapan seperlunya. Betapa kabarbaik itu datang pada permulaan masa Adven! Secara khusus, pada hari inibacaan-bacaan kita mewartakan tentang segala penjuru dunia mendengarkan suarapanggilan Tuhan, dan mereka mengikutinya. Dalam pandangan yang sempit, mereka yang biasanyadiharapkan mendengarkan Tuhan dan menunjukkan kepatuhannya ialah mereka yangsudah percaya dan tercatat sebagai anggota di dalam jemaat atau Gereja. Hal itusama dengan anak-anak yang dituntut sikap yang menuruti dan menyayangi keduaorang tua mereka. Mengharapkan sikap seperti itu dari anak-anak di luarkeluarga sendiri bahkan orang-orang asing jelas tidak mungkin. Kitab nabiYesaya terang-terangan menggambarkan bahwa sekelompok orang terpilih dan bertahanadalah kaum penerus yang mempertahankan kemuliaan rumah Tuhan. Di dalam rumah Tuhan itu berjayalah Kristus sebagai rajayang mulia, raja semua orang. Tuhan Yesus menyempurnakan panggilan itu kepadasemua orang di bumi. Ia diutus Bapa untuk semua orang, dan bukan hanya bagisegelintir orang. Maka orang asing dan tidak beriman Yahudi seperti perwira diKapernaum juga mendapat tempat di hati Tuhan. Justru ia mewakili umat manusiadari seluruh penjuru bumi yang mendengar dan datang berjumpa dengan Tuhan.Perwira ini mengingatkan kita semua agar di masa Adven ini kita tekunmendengarkan dan datang kepada Tuhan untuk mendapatkan berkat-berkat dari-Nya. Marilah kita berdoa. Theexperience of missing a flight or train has happened a lot. A friend onceshared his experience about this. He was enjoying the excitement of playinggames and downloading videos on the laptop while waiting for the transitflight. The moment was so precious to him because the internet is fast and freewhich is not found in the village where he comes from. He really wanted toenjoy it to his heart's content. But until the last call to board the plane, hedid not get to hear it. Finally when he realized later, he was too late toleave. His ticket automatically expired. He was ashamed ofhimself because in front of him there was a sign attached to the wall thatsays, "All passengers must be ready before being called to board theplane." All of us who are healthy-minded understand about getting ready.Everyone who knows and understands about getting ready, accepts it as anobligation. The basis should be this one: a demand to be fulfilled. Someone whohas an interest in this demand must follow and obey it. The quality required ofhim before carrying out that obligation is that he must be prepared. There's noway of not being prepared. For matters relatingto faith in God, preparation is absolute. There are a lot of God's words andcommands about preparation. God is never subject to time and place, but wehumans are very determined to. Humans are very limited in their ability toadapt to different times and places. For this reason, self-preparation foradjustment to changes is absolute. The universal law for preparation applies toall people, and for believers is crucial in the fulfillment of God's will. As we enter the newLiturgical Year, marked by the celebration of this first Sunday of Advent, ourgood news is the call to prepare. We are reminded to be prepared to welcome ourLord Jesus Christ. The call to welcome is addressed to all nations and culturesof the world. We follow the source of this call that is in the holy house ofGod. There enthroned Jesus as the Great King. His kingdom was marked by Hisbirth on this earth more than 2000 years ago, which we celebrate on hisbirthday every December 25, the Christmas day. We all must do thepreparations to welcome our King, because he always comes in accordance withthe time he wants. Pengalaman ketinggalan pesawat atau kereta sudahbanyak terjadi. Seorang teman bercerita, ia sedang menikmati serunya bermain game dan download video dalam laptopnya pada waktu sedang menunggu pesawattransit. Maklum, internet kencang dan gratis tidak ia temukan di kampungnya. Iamemang ingin menikmati itu sepuas-puasnya. Tetapi sampai pada panggilanterakhir untuk naik ke pesawat, ia tidak sempat mendengarnya. Akhirnya ketikaia menyadari kemudian, ia sudah terlambat berangkat. Tiketnya otomatis hangus.  Ia malu sendiri karena di hadapannya ada tulisan yangmenempel pada dinding yang berbunyi, "Semua penumpang harus sudah siapsebelum dipanggil untuk naik ke pesawat." Kita semua yang bernalar sehatmengerti tentang bersiap. Setiap orang yang tahu dan mengerti tentang bersiap,menerima hal itu sebagai suatu kewajiban. Dasarnya ialah ada sebuah tuntutanuntuk dipenuhi. Seseorang yang memiliki kepentingan terhadap tuntutan tersebutwajib mengikuti dan mematuhinya. Kualitas yang diminta darinya sebelum melaksanakankewajiban itu ialah ia harus bersiap. Tidak mungkin sebaliknya ia tidakbersiap. Untuk urusan yang berkaitan dengan iman kepada Tuhan,persiapan adalah mutlak. Ada banyak sekali firman dan perintah Tuhan tentangpersiapan. Tuhan tidak pernah terikat pada waktu dan tempat, tetapi kitamanusia sangat terikat. Manusia sangat terbatas dalam kemampuan menyesuaikandirinya dengan waktu dan tempat yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan alasan ini,persiapan diri untuk penyesuaian terhadap perubahan-perubahan adalah mutlak.Hukum universal untuk persiapan berlaku bagi semua orang, dan bagi orang-orang berimanadalah sangat menentukan dalam memenuhi kehendak Tuhan. Dalam memasuki Tahun Liturgi yang baru, ditandai denganperayaan hari Minggu Adven yang pertama ini, kabar gembira kita ialah panggilanuntuk bersiap sedia. Kita diingatkan untuk bersiap menyambut Tuhan kita YesusKristus. Panggilan untuk penyambutan diarahkan kepada semua bangsa dan budayadi dunia ini. Kita mengikuti sumber panggilannya yaitu di rumah Allah yangkudus. Di situ bertakhtalah Yesus sebagai Raja Agung. Kerajaan-Nya sudahditandai dengan kelahiran di bumi ini lebih dari 2000 tahun lalu, yang kitarayakan ulang tahunnya pada setiap 25 Desember, hari raya Natal. Kita semua wajib melalukan persiapan untuk menyambut Rajakita yang datang sesuai dengan waktu yang Ia kehendaki. Ia hanya inginmendapatkan kita sedang bersuka cita, merindukan dan penuh kehangatan untukmenyambut-Nya, supaya suka cita menjadi penuh dan Ia penuhi kehendak Bapa. Marilah kita berdoa. On this last day of the liturgical yearC our reflection should reinforce our optimism. This specificwords "strategic program" are used evenly at various levels ofspeaking can be a way to strengthen our optimism about our life and work. A programis always manifested in the plan of activities that leads to action, andstrategy refers to the best options that a plan wants to achieve. Our spiritual life inthis journey of faith on earth really needs a strategic program, something thatis very important for our own personal journey, families, Church as a religiousinstitution and other social activities. The most concrete and basic spirituallife in this journey is every personal growth of faith. Religion, Church,religious study, family, fellowship, prayer groups are all instruments thatnurture and strengthen that personal spiritual life. The one who will face andsubmit an accountability of this journey of faith at the moment of the finaljudgment in afterlife is every person of faith, and not those supportinginstruments. So the strategicprogram that we mean here is fundamentally for every person with all itsuniqueness. At the end of this liturgical year C, then we are to welcome the liturgical year A which is marked by the First Sunday of Advent, planning for a strategicspiritual life program is something very appropriate. This keywords preparation are important and urgent so that weas people of faith can respond quickly to abandon our old style of life whichhave been enslaving us and yet we were less aware of. Let us start bygetting ready, then we can proceed this following program: with ourperseverance in prayer so that we can control ourselves from temptations of theevil one, then we will be safe in God's presence; with our practice of fast andmortification in order to give our souls an ample space to focus on God, ratherthan being carried away by worldly lust or deceit; with our obediencewholeheartedly to God who always sees and loves us; with our sense of wonderand gratitude for all the goodness God has bestowed on us; with our purity ofheart in praising and rejoicing the Lord; with our sincerity to forgiveneighbors 70 times 7 times; with our courage to testify in truth who Jesus is;and with our humility in tirelessly loving others. And let us say to eachother: A happy journey of faith in this coming Advent! Let's pray. In the name of theFather. Kata sakti “program strategis” yang dipakai secara merata diberbagai tingkat kehidupan dapat kita pakai untuk memperkuat semangat itu. Sebuahprogram selalu berupa rencana kegiatan untuk dilakukan, dan strategis menunjukpada pilihan terbaik untuk dilakukan.                                                                                                                      Kehidupan rohani atau ziarah iman kita di dunia ini sangatmembutuhkan suatu program strategis, sesuatu yang sangat penting juga baginegara, organisasi gereja dan aktivitas sosial lainnya. Kehidupan rohani atauziarah iman yang paling konkret dan mendasar ialah seorang pribadi beriman.Agama, Gereja, pelajaran agama, keluarga, persekutuan, kelompok doa, semuanyamenjadi instrumen yang memupuk dan memperkuat kehidupan rohani pribadi itu.Yang akan selamat melalui keputusan pengadilan terakhir nanti ialah pribadiitu, dan bukan instrumen-instrumen tadi. Jadi program strategis yang kita maksudkan di sini ialahuntuk pribadi kita masing-masing. Di akhir tahun liturgi ini, lalu untukmenyambut tahun liturgi A yang ditandai dengan Minggu Pertama Adven, mendesainsebuah program hidup rohani yang strategis ialah sesuatu yang sangat tepat.Metode untuk membuat program ini sederhana, yaitu kita mulai dengan kata kunciutama: Bersiap siaga atau waspada, sebuah kata yang sering dipakai oleh Yesusdalam pengajaran-Nya kepada kita tentang penyambutan Kerajaan Allah. Mengapa dipilih kata strategis dalam semangat bersiap ini,karena kesadaran perlu dibangun, kelupaan perlu diingatkan, kemalasan perludisuntik kerajinan, masa bodoh perlu dibakar semangatnya, cuek perlu ditutupidengan kepekaan, menyendiri perlu diberi vitamin hidup bersaudara dan bersama,dan kesedihan perlu diubah dengan suka cita. Kata kunci bersiap menjadi pentingdan mendesak supaya orang-orang beriman cepat lepas dari gaya lama, yang selamaini sudah cukup menyiksa namun kurang disadarinya. Mulai dengan bersiap, dan kita selanjutnya mengisi: denganberdoa dalam ketekunan supaya kita dapat menguasai diri dari godaan-godaan sijahat, lalu kita menjadi aman di hadirat Tuhan; dengan berpuasa dan mati ragademi memberi peluang lebih besar kepada jiwa untuk fokus kepada Tuhan, daripada terbawa-bawa oleh nafsu atau tipu daya duniawi; dengan taat-setia selalukepada Allah yang senantiasa melihat dan menyayangimu; dengan bangga danbersyukur atas segala kebaikan dari Tuhan; dengan selalu bersuka cita; denganmengampuni sebanyak 70 kali 7 kali; dengan bersaksi tentang Yesus; denganmencintai sesama tanpa kenal lelah. Selamat berziarah iman dalam masa Advenini. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Bapa yang baik,utuslah Roh-Mu untuk membantu kami hidup selalu dalam kesiap-siagaan. Throughoutthe year we meet the change of natural seasons: hot to cold and cold to hot. Fromthe point of view of Church's liturgy, in two days time we will begin a newliturgical year. The immediate effect of welcoming this new year is an act ofadaptation because we need to go along with the new season. In doing so werevew our lives according to the will of God and Church. The Lord Jesus speaksof the coming of the kingdom of God, and He encourages us to take notice of itssigns, then willing to welcome it and finally renew ourselves. Even though ifthe signs revealed to us are of things afterlife, we inevitably have to welcomeit up because it is the Lord Himself who is present in those signs. We need tobe ready to accept Him, and our readiness means that we start renewing and thenlive in a new form of believers. At various stages oflife, the mentality of making plans for any activity is a very concrete need.From simple activities such as a dinner invitation at a friend's house to amultinational company plan for lauching its new project or a diocesan pastoral careset up for the whole year plan. Our lives and activities become smooth andenjoyable when they are planned. If there is no plan, any activity will be inchaos. Because of an unplanned life, we are not sure of what will be done andthere is no definite direction to be followed. If there is no plan,we don't know what or who we are going to welcome. We also cannot adapt as away of renewal of self that we need to do. Only those who have plan canexperience the beauty of welcoming God and have the joy of being renewed. IfGod comes to meet us in the celebration of the eucharist, for example, our planto welcome Him should be made hours before the actual celebration. Thereforethe meeting itself in the celebration of Eucharist will become a special andmeaningful experience. Definitely the Eucharist becomes a light for ourselvesthat are already renewed. On the contrary, if neitherpreparation nor plan from our part, the meeting in the eucharist will become acomplicated chaos that can endanger our spiritual lives: whether God is feltsilent or He is so far away, whether we are besieged by laziness and easily getsleep, whether we are simply forced to attend the eucharist because of pressurefrom others, either we just pass the time of one day off from works and otherundertakings. God who comes inEucharistic celebrations is also the One who comes in other occasions in thislife. And the universal law for every believer is that we need to welcome Himbecause He brings precious gifts to us. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Sepanjang tahun kita menjemput pergantian musim alam: panas kedingin dan dingin ke panas. Secara liturgis, tiga hari lagi kita menjemputtahun liturgi yang baru. Efek langsung dari menjemput ini ialah tindakanadaptasi karena kita perlu seiring dengan musim yang baru. Jadi kita melakukanpembaharuan hidup kita. Tuhan Yesus berbicara tentang datangnya kerajaan Allah,dan Ia menyemangati kita untuk menangkap tanda-tandanya, lalu bersediamenyambutnya dan akhirnya membaharui diri kita. Bahkan ketika tanda-tanda itumengungkapkan bahwa yang kita jemput adalah sebuah akhirat, mau tidak mau kitamesti menjemput karena yang datang ialah Tuhan sendiri yang menjemput. Kitaperlu siap menerima Dia, dan kesiapan kita itu mengandung arti kalau kitamemulai pembaharuan dan selanjutnya hidup dalam bentuk yang baru. Dalam berbagai tingkat kehidupan, mentalitas membuatrencana untuk kegiatan apa pun merupakan suatu kebutuhan yang konkret. Darikegiatan sederhana seperti ajakan makan malam di rumah teman hingga ke suatuperencanaan perusahaan multinasional atau reksa pastoral sebuah keuskupan,kehidupan dan kegiatan menjadi lancar dan menyenangkan kalau direncanakan.Sebab kalau tak ada rencana, kegiatan apa pun akan kacau-balau. Misalnya kitatidak pasti akan apa yang nanti dilakukan dan tak ada arah pasti yang hendak ditujui. Kalau tak ada rencana, kita tidak tahu apa atau siapa yangkita jemput. Kita juga tidak dapat menyesuaikan diri sebagai bentuk pembaharuandiri yang perlu kita lakukan. Hanya mereka yang punya rencana yang dapatmengalami pengalaman indahnya menyambut Tuhan dan menikmati suka cita sebagaipribadi-pribadi yang baru. Jika Tuhan datang menemui kita dalam perayaanekaristi, misalnya, rencana penyambutan itu mestinya sudah ada lebih awal. Makapertemuan nanti dalam perayaan Ekaristi menjadi sebuah suka cita yang istimewa.Selanjutnya Ekaristi itu menjadi terang untuk pembaharuan diri kita yang lebihbaik. Sebaliknya kalau tak ada persiapan sebelumnya, pertemuandalam ekaristi itu bakal diwarnai dengan situasi yang serba kekurangan: entahTuhan dirasakan diam saja dan begitu jauh, entah kita yang terbawa malassehingga mengantuk melulu, entah kita hanya terpaksa menghadiri ekaristi karenapengaruh atau tekanan pihak lain, entah sekedar ikut ramai dan memanfaatkansatu hari libur.  Tuhan yang datang dalam perayaan Ekaristi, Dia yang samajuga datang pada berbagai kesempatan lain hidup ini. Dan hukumnya universal,yaitu Ia perlu disambut karena ia membawa oleh-oleh pembaharuan kehidupan kita.Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Bapa maha kuasa,semoga kerinduan kami untuk berjumpa dengan-Mu menjadi kebutuhan kami tiaphari, dan bukan hanya ketika kami mengalami kesulitan hidup. Salam Maria, penuhrahmat ... Living in a strange place and you do not have anyone near by,it is greatly sad. For anyone who wants to endure and survive, he must gothrough all challenges and difficulties. He must rely on God he believes in.His life like having to go through a needle's hole. This is a reality should befaced with patience and struggle. The young Danielexperienced captivity and exile as narrated to us by today's first reading.This Jewish youth is an all-out enemy by haters who wanted to destroy him. ButKing Darius, who respected God, was the one on the Daniel's side. After it wasproven that Daniel's punishment being destroyed in the lion's den wasunsuccessful, Daniel was finally released and the recognition of the just andtrue God was made by the King and his entire kingdom, while the criminals andhaters were put to death. In these days leadingus to the end of our liturgical year, the proclamation of God's word about theend of time illustrates a frightening and trembling emotion. This situation canbe understood as a transitional or a shift moment. Every transition or shifthas more critical situation compared to calm and pleasant condition. Peoplehave to go certain extent to prepare everything. People must decide to leavethe unnecessary, and they are filled with shadows about the next steps that arenot certain. A transition periodcan be seen as a state such as having to pass through a needle's hole. Indifficult situation and seemingly only little hope of release, the call tofreedom and salvation becomes so important. There, one's faith is tested sothat it becomes stronger and able to survive. One's hope also becomes strongerfor the promise of beautiful and extraordinary achievement will come true. Thisis the characteristic of our Christian faith which comes from the way of thecross of Jesus Christ. The cross of the LordJesus Christ is the principle sign of victory. In the cross the Lord institutesa total destruction of life on earth and death. But God at the same timecreates victory and new life as a divine gift that will never again destroyedor perished. All the horrifying images in transition, as portrayed in theGospel passage today as an event of the fulfillment of time, are opportunitiesthat we must face and pass through in our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's pray. Pengalaman pengasingan dan menjadi tertawan sangat tidak menyenangkan.Hidup di tempat asing dan dirimu tidak memiliki siapa-siapa untuk merasa dekat,memang menyedihkan. Bagi siapa pun yang ingin survive dan bertahan, ia harus melewati semua tantangan dankesulitan. Ia harus mengandalkan Tuhan yang diimaninya. Hidupnya bagai harusmelewati lubang jarum merupakan sebuah kenyataan yang dilalui dengan kesabarandan perjuangan. Pengalaman menjadi orang tertawan dan dalam pengasinganitu dialami oleh pemuda Daniel yang dikisahkan dalam bacaan pertama hari ini.Pemuda Yahudi ini dimusuhi habis-habisan oleh para pembenci yang inginmenghancurkannya. Tetapi Sang Raja Darius yang menaruh hormat kepada Allahmerupakan salah satu yang berpihak kepada Daniel. Setelah terbukti bahwahukuman atas Daniel untuk dibinasakan di dalam gua singa tidak berhasil, Danielakhirnya dibebaskan dan pengakuan terhadap Tuhan yang adil dan benar dilakukan olehRaja serta kerajaannya, sedangkan para penjahat dan pembenci dihukum mati. Pada hari-hari menjelang akhir tahun liturgi ini,pewartaan firman Tuhan tentang akhir zaman menggambarkan suasana yangmenggemparkan dan menakutkan. Suasana ini dapat kita pahami sebagai peristiwaperalihan atau transisi. Setiap peralihan atau transisi memiliki lebih banyaksuasana kritis dibandingkan dengan keadaan tenang dan menyenangkan. Orang harusbekerja ekstra untuk menyiapkan segala sesuatu. Orang harus memutuskan untukmeninggalkan yang tidak perlu, dan mereka harus dipenuhi bayangan akan langkah-langkahselanjutnya yang belum tentu pasti.  Sebuah masa transisi dapat dipandang sebagai keadaanseperti harus melewati lubang jarum. Di dalam keadaan yang sulit dan tampaknyaharapan kecil untuk berhasil, panggilan untuk memperoleh kebebasan dankeselamatan terasa amatlah penting. Di situ iman seseorang diuji supaya semakinkuat dan membuatnya mampu bertahan. Pengharapan seseorang juga menjadi lebihkuat karena janji akan pencapaian indah dan luar biasa akan menjadi kenyataan.Inilah ciri khas iman Kristiani, yang bersumber dari jalan salib Yesus Kristus. Salib Tuhan Yesus Kristus pada prinsipnya adalah tandakemenangan. Padanya Tuhan Yesus menetapkan sebuah kehancuran dan kebinasaanyang fana dan duniawi. Namun Tuhan sekaligus menciptakan kemenangan dankehidupan sebagai karunia Ilahi yang tidak akan hancur atau binasa lagi. Semuagambaran yang mengerikan dalam masa transisi, seperti yang dilukiskan dalamInjil sebagai suatu peristiwa penggenapan waktu, adalah kesempatan yang wajibkita hadapi dan lalui di dalam Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus. Marilah kita berdoa. Daniel 5: 1-6.13-14.16-17.23-28; Rs psalm: Add Dan 3: 662.63.64.65.66.67; Luke 21: 12-19.THE WHOLE PERSON OFHUMAN BEING IS SAVED Our meditation today isentitled: The Whole Person of Human Being is Saved. The book of Daniel as ourfirst reading today depicts the king of Belshazzar and his guests who werehaving a party and looking up something that scared them. They saw the words ofGod revealed so provocatively, that was the vision of a mysterious hand writingof God's word on the wall (Daniel 5.5f). Then the king was very curious aboutthe meaning of those words on the wall. He asked the young man Daniel toexplain it. The Lord also writesvarious kinds of His word for us on this world through the writings of His chosenmessengers. They had written the word of God on scrolls made from wood skins,which were later renewed into the scriptures we have now. The word of God, inthe process of its writing, was written in an extraordinary and even rathercontroversial way. Furthermore, the word grows so wonderfully in the lives ofbelievers when they hear the word very well and faithfully, then proclaim it. Something differentfrom that moment when King Belshazzar read the word of God put on the wall, weinstead have the scriptures in our room or on our tables. The bibles haveoccupied their places there for some times. We often do not realize when thebible was written, how it was written, how long to write it and who wrote it. Amore serious and profound question is about the proper message and meaning of thepassages when someone reads it. Since many of us don't read enough, we toodon't understand any. If you like to read,you can find some messages in it. If you have been reading it so much but youremain don't understand any, it is just a common experience for most of us.Just keep reading it. From here comes curiosity. Because if people have never ordo not like to read it, of course there is no curiosity either. The king givesus an example, that we really need to have curiosity and ask questions aboutthe word of God. The disciples and apostles of Jesus also always asked theMaster, the message and meaning of God's word. In our liturgical readings of theserecent days, questions that are commonly asked are about the end times and Jesusis the one who gives firm and definite answer. In today's Gospel reading,Jesus' answer is even more emphatic, namely the price of the end times that is veryexpensive for every follower. That price is the self-sacrifice that the LordJesus has made as an example for us. He is our true Teacher who teaches byexample. A single hair costs the same as one's entire being. The whole personis so expensive and important to be saved. Eventhough we might endure all formsof hardship, suffering and persecution, every part of our whole being isdestined to be saved.  Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Kitab Daniel pada hari ini menggambarkan rajaBelsasar dan para tamunya yang sedang berpesta tampak ketakutan luar biasa.Mereka melihat sabda Tuhan yang diungkapkan sebegitu provokatif, yaitupenglihatan sebuah tangan misterius sedang menulis firman Tuhan di dinding(Daniel 5,5dst). Lalu raja sangat ingin tahu makna kata-kata di dinding itu. Iameminta pemuda Daniel orang Yahudi itu untuk menjelaskannya.  Tuhan juga menulis aneka macamsabda-Nya di dunia ini melalui tulisan-tulisan para utusan-Nya. Mereka telahmenulis sabda Tuhan pada gulungan-gulungan berbahan kulit dan daun kayu, yangkemudian dibaharui menjadi kitab suci. Sabda Tuhan itu, dalam prosespenulisannya, ditulis dengan cara yang luar biasa bahkan agak provokatif.Selanjutnya firman itu hidup dengan begitu luar biasa dalam diri orang-orangyang percaya, ketika mereka mendengarkan Sabda dengan sangat baik dan setia,lalu mewartakannya. Berbeda suasananya dengan tulisanfirman Tuhan pada dinding yang dibaca raja Belsasar, kita memiliki kitab sucidi ruangan atau di atas meja-meja kita. Kitab suci- kitab suci itu telahmenghuni tempatnya di sana sekian waktu tertentu. Kita sering tidak menyadarikapan kita suci itu ditulis, penulisannya bagaimana, berapa lama menulisnya dansiapa saja yang menulis. Pertanyaan yang lebih serius dan mendalam adalahtentang isi dan makna kitab suci persisnya seperti apa. Karena banyak dari kitakurang membaca, maka kurang juga memahaminya. Kalau memang pernah atau suka membaca,seseorang dapat menemukan sejumlah pesan yang ada di dalamnya. Jika memang adabegitu banyak yang tidak dipahami, itu adalah pengalaman umum. Dari situ datangrasa ingin tahu. Karena jika orang tidak pernah atau tidak suka membacanya,tentu rasa ingin tahu tidak ada juga. Raja memberikan contoh, yaitu bahwa kitamemang perlu mempunyai rasa ingin tahu dan bertanya tentang firman Tuhan. Paramurid dan rasul Yesus juga selalu bertanya kepada Sang Guru, isi dan makna firmanTuhan.  Pada hari-hari ini, merekabertanya tentang akhir zaman dan mereka memperoleh jawaban yang tegas dan pastidari Yesus.  Hari ini jawaban Yesus lebih tegaslagi, yaitu harga akhir zaman bagi para pengikut amat mahal. Harga itu berupapengorbanan diri dengan rela untuk mengikuti teladan sang Guru agung YesusKristus. Sehelai rambut juga harganya sama dengan seluruh diri kitamasing-masing. Seluruh diri itu begitu mahal dan penting untuk diselamatkan.Melalui semua bentuk kesulitan, penderitaan dan penganiayaan, setiap bagian danseluruh diri kita ditakdirkan untuk selamat.  Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Allahmaha mulia, semangatilah kami untuk selalu memiliki rasa ingin tahu akan setiapfirman dan kehendak-Mu. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa... Dalam nama Bapa...

Naturally, our bodies andall matters of the world obey the natural law. Our skin cannot withstand a verycold or very hot temperature. We will be tired and have problem with our breathafter running up the hill for some kilometers. The leaves will fall and thenturn to integrate with soil. The old houses and cities that already destroyedhad become debris. Our body after death will unite with the earth. This we call the lawof determination, that is, our lives are determined or destined to obey andfollow what nature wants. The same determination also comes from human violencesuch as war, discrimination, intolerance and other crimes. All are parts of thisworld. Because of original sin, we can't help but accept the fact that we mustfight, defend ourselves and even accept that in due time we will die and leavethis world. Daniel, a wise youngman who along with his three Jewish brothers worked to serve the Persian kingNebuchadnezzar, gave an understanding of the determination of nature and lifein this world to a king who did not believe in God. A mighty and powerful kingdomthroughout the earth will be destroyed and only its name would remain. Jesusalso states that the beautiful temple will be destroyed to the ground. Then,there would be extraordinary natural disasters and infectious diseasesthroughout the earth. All predictions willbe proven one by one over time. This means that all of us and all of our worksin this world are subject to the law of nature which is united with time inconstant change. None of us can intervene, even the world most braverst leaderand the greatest technological andvancement cannot stop this subjection.Technology and political power are not comparable to God's wisdom and will.Then God allows and enables humans to be experts in technology and politics,and the world seems to be so powerful. But God keeps nature and its laws reignand determine. God himself indeedcannot prevent if the will of nature occurs and the time for the body andmatter of this world must reach its end. God's will is certain, what istemporary will be destroyed in this world and dies, because there will be aneternal power, that is, the kingdom of God himself who regins. We reallybelieve in this. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O glorious Lord Jesus, bless us as persons, families and communities, sothat we always look at You in hope for eternal life for all of us. Glory to theFather and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... Secara alamiah, tubuh kita dan segala barang duniawi akan tundukkepada hukum alam. Kulit kita tak bisa bertahan pada suhu yang amat dingin atauamat panas. Kita akan lelah dan bernafas putus-putus setelah berlari di jalanmenanjak beberapa kilometer jauhnya. Dedaunan akan gugur lalu hancur menjaditanah. Rumah dan kota-kota yang dulu sudah hancur dan tinggal puing-puing saja.Tubuh kita setelah mati akan menyatu dengan tanah.  Ini namanya hukum determinasi, yaitu diri dan hidup kitaditentukan atau ditakdirkan untuk taat dan mengikuti yang dimaui alam. Yangjuga ikut menentukan ialah tindakan-tindakan manusia yang keras seperti perang,diskriminasi, intoleransi dan kejahatan lainnya, sudah merupakan bagian duniaini. Karena dosa asal, kita mau tak mau menerima kenyataan bahwa kita mestiberjuang, mempertahankan diri bahkan rela menerima bahwa pada saatnya kita akanmati dan meninggalkan dunia ini. Daniel, pemuda bijaksana yang bersama ketiga saudaranyadari Yahudi bekerja melayani raja Persia Nebukadnesar, memberikan pemahamantentang determinasi alam dan hidup dunia ini kepada raja yang tidak percayakepada Tuhan Allah. Kerajaan yang perkasa dan penuh kekuasaan di seluruh bumiakan hancur dan hanya tinggal namanya saja. Yesus juga menyatakan bahwa baitsuci yang indah akan hancur hingga rata sampai tanah. Menyusul, akan adabencana alam luar biasa dan penyakit menular ke seluruh muka bumi.  Semua ramalan bakal terbukti satu persatu denganberjalannya waktu. Ini berarti kita semua dan seluruh hasil karya kita di duniaini tunduk pada hukum alam yang menyatu dengan waktu yang terus berganti. Takada satu pun dari kita yang dapat mengintervensi, merekayasa dan menghentikanbahkan dengan kemampuan teknologi sehebat apa pun. Teknologi dan kekuasaanpolitik tak sebanding dengan kebijaksanaan dan kehendak Allah. Lalu Tuhanmengizinkan dan memampukan manusia untuk berteknologi dan berkekuasaan politikuntuk maju dan menjadi besar. Tetapi Tuhan membuat supaya alam dan hukumnyatetap berdaulat dan berdeterminasi.  Bahkan Tuhan sendiri tidak bisa mencegah kalau kemauanalam itu terjadi dan saatnya tubuh dan materi dunia ini memang harus sampaipada akhiratnya. Kehendak Tuhan adalah pasti, yaitu yang sementara di dunia inipada saatnya hancur dan mati, karena akan ada suatu kekuasaan yang hidup abadi,yaitu kerajaan Allah sendiri. Kita sangat percaya akan hal ini. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus yangmulia, berkatilah kami pribadi-pribadi dan keluarga serta komunitas, supayakami senantiasa memandang Dikau dalam pengharapan untuk kehidupan abadi bagikami semua. A child asked his father why their family always sat on the 5throw from the front every time the Holy Mass was being celebrated in the parishchurch. The child was quite aware that his parents would bring the whole familyto sit on that bench. They were always in that place before the mass began.Their feet stepped on the same floor and their heads went straight to the sameroof. After the Mass, the father explained the reason to thechild. That family saw firsthand howthe church was renovated to its current shape. The cost of renovating thechurch indeed came from the routine collection of one thousand rupiah for thefamily and other families in the parish.  With such an understanding, the father and mother ofthe family always ensure that their place or position in the church must bereal and fixed. They showed it through a sign, that is to occupy a specialposition, so as to remind them of being special part of the membership of theChurch. Although their role and contribution to the Church are small, they havebecome an integral part of the growth of the Church as God's people. They justwant to make sure that they have the Church and at the same time the Church hasthem. The father's explanation really made the child understoodand was eager to be always active in the life of the church in theirparish.  For all of us, one of the signsthat we are active and part of the Church is that we make our owncontributions. The condition for making a donation is very simple, namely togive sincerely and with all your heart. The gift is very appropriate torepresent ourselves, even though it amounts to only a thousand rupiah, but itexplains ourselves as people who have something to give. The sacrifice of the poor widow narrated in today'sGospel gives us inspiration to give to God what is worthy of God and what makesour hearts satisfied and happy. Let us pray. Seorang anak bertanya kepada bapaknya, alasan mereka sekeluarga selalududuk di bangku urutan ke-5 dari depan, setiap kali perayaan misa di gerejaparoki. Anak itu memastikan bahwa orang tuanya akan membawa seluruh keluargaduduk di bangku tersebut. Mereka selalu berada di tempat itu sebelum misadimulai. Kaki mereka menginjak lantai yang sama dan kepala mereka lurus ke atapyang sama. Setelah Misa, bapak menjelaskan alasannya kepada sanganak. Alasannya ialah karena uang seribu rupiah. Sejak masih muda dan sebelumkawin, ia yang masih remaja dibuat terkesan dengan perkataan pastor paroki padawaktu itu. Pastor berkata bahwa setiap kolekte, yang besar kecilnya bergantungpada setiap orang, ikut membangun rumah ibadat mereka di paroki. Sejak saat ituia tidak pernah absen memberikan kolekte seribu rupiah. Pada waktu ia sudah menikah dan berkeluarga, ia biasakanketiga anaknya membawa seribu rupiah untuk kolekte pada setiap kali perayaanMisa. Keluarga itu ikut melihat secara langsung bagaimana gereja itu direnovasisampai mencapai bentuknya seperti saat ini. Biaya renovasi gereja itu antaralain bersumber dari kolekte yang rutin sebesar seribu rupiah keluarga tersebutdan keluarga-keluarga lain.  Dengan pemahaman yang demikian, bapak dan ibu keluarga ituselalu memastikan bahwa tempat atau posisi mereka di dalam gereja harus nyatadan tetap. Mereka secara simbolik menempati suatu posisi yang spesial, supayamengingatkan mereka sebagai bagian yang spesial di dalam keanggotaan Gereja.Biarpun peran dan sumbangan mereka tidak seberapa kepada Gereja, tetapi merekatelah menjadi bagian yang menyatu dalam pembangunan Gereja sebagai umat Allah.Mereka hanya ingin memastikan bahwa mereka memiliki Gereja dan sebaliknyaGereja memiliki mereka. Penjelasan bapak sungguh membuat sang anak paham dansemakin giat di dalam hidup menggereja di parokinya.  Bagi kita semua, salah satu tanda kita aktifdan menjadi bagian dari Gereja, ialah karena kita memberikan sumbangan kitamasing-masing. Syarat memberikan sumbangan itu sangat sederhana, yaitumemberikan dengan tulus dan dengan segenap hati. Pemberian itu sangat pantasuntuk mewakili diri kita, meski jumlahnya seribu rupiah, tetapi menjelaskandiri kita sebenarnya sebagai orang yang mempunyai sesuatu untuk diberikan. Persembahan janda yang miskin yang dikisahkan di dalamInjil hari ini memberikan kita inspirasi untuk memberikan kepada Tuhan apa yangpantas kepada Tuhan dan apa yang membuat hati kita puas dan bahagia. Marilah kita berdoa. We end our liturgical year C witha great celebration, which is the solemnity of Christ as king of the wholeuniverse. He is our King too. A king who is glorified and honored at his very solemnmoment, he must be seen in his palace and sits on his throne. Every one comesfrom all over the kingdom to worship and give thanks. Visitors do not forget tobring gifts or souvenirs for the king. This is a commonpractice in the world in terms of honoring a king. For the Lord Jesus Christ asking, one might ask: where do we go to visit and give our gifts as signs of ourhonor to Him? For sure, in this world Jesus has no palace and throne. He has nosoldiers and staff surrounding him in the palace. Injil kita pada hari inimenggambarkan bahwa istana dan takhta Yesus ialah bukit Golgota dan kayu salibyang berdiri tempat Ia bergantung, di tengah hujatan dan siksaan paramusuh-Nya. Kita yang menjadi anggota Kerajaan Yesus Kristus pastimemiliki sikap iman yang benar, sehingga dapat datang mengunjungi Raja kitadengan tanpa rasa malu, sakit hati, dan marah. Justru sebaliknya, kita harusdatang dengan sebuah sikap penuh suka cita dan syukur. Mengapa? Karena RajaKristus sangat berbeda dari raja-raja dunia ini, yang sama dengan raja Daud,yang akan lenyap bersama segala kekuasaannya. Raja Kristus berkuasa di duniadan di akhirat. Di dalam surga terletak istana dan takhta-Nya. Kerajaan-Nyaadalah kerajaan Terang.  Dengan memandang Raja Kristus yang tersalib, hadiah-hadiahyang seharusnya kita berikan kepada-Nya ialah iman, kasih dan harapan kita.Para pemimpin seharusnya adalah guru iman, tetapi mereka justru menghina danmengutuk Yesus tersalib. Kita mesti mempersembahkan iman yang benar kepada Rajakita, karena di dalam dan melalui Dia iman kita kepada Tuhan tumbuh danberbuah. Kita percaya, Ia menderita sengsara dalam pemerintahan PontiusPilatus, disalibkan, wafat dan dimakamkan. A teenager has just become an orphan. His father and motherpassed away consecutively last year and in the middle of this year. When manypeople came to mourn his mother, they expressed their sadness and criedemotionally.  But the teenager remained calm and welcomed everyonewho came. Many people asked why he didn't look sad and moved with emotion. Hereplied that he only cried in the early moments of his mother's death. Afterthat, he felt peaceful and full of hope. He believed his mother would meet hisfather in heaven. This young man's belief that his mother and father arealive in heaven must not have been accepted and believed by the Sadducees asshown in today's Gospel reading. They do not believe in the resurrection of thebody, nor in the existence of heaven. Therefore they also do not believe in theexistence of angels. They only believe that heaven is the joy and contentmentof this world. Is the notion that there is no bodily resurrection andno heaven still around us? We who follow this meditation daily and are committedto the authentic faith in Jesus Christ certainly do not fall into thatcategory. We also do not want to risk forcing ourselves into the group ofpeople who do not believe in bodily resurrection and eternal life.  Behind that risk is a situation like a person whomeets a dead end after going through the twists and turns of life in thisworld. The end of it all is death and nothing else. If the end or ultimate goalis death, the spirit of life and the focus of the people in this world is onlyto enjoy this world in all ways and situations. For them, after death there isnothing else to acquire and enjoy.  Let us think for example on marriage and family life. OurChristian faith does not teach us to accept death as the end of life in thisworld, but it teaches us to accept and believe in the new life in theresurrection of the body and everlasting life. In that new life all people arespirits who see one another as brothers and sisters and as children of God. Theyno longer need a life like before death. The spirit cannot marry, the one whomarries is the body. We just need to prepare ourselves to welcome death andthen resurrection. Each of us must first be convinced, then we need to convinceothers of this very important element of our faith. If anyone is curious about what life after death willbe like, the only one who has sure answer is Jesus, because only He has raisedfrom the dead. Seorang remaja baru saja menjadi yatim piatu. Bapak danibunya meninggal dunia berturut-turut tahun lalu dan pertengahan tahun ini.Pada saat banyak orang datang melayat ibunya, mereka mengungkapkan kesedihandan menangis dalam haru.  Tetapi remaja itu tetap tenang dan menyambut setiap orangyang datang. Berapa orang bertanya mengapa ia tidak kelihatan sedih danmenangis. Ia menjawab bahwa ia hanya menangis pada saat-saat awal kematian.Setelah itu ia merasa damai dan penuh optimisme. Ia percaya ibunya akan bertemubapanya di surga. Keyakinan orang muda ini bahwa ibu dan bapaknya hidupkembali di surga pasti tidak dipercayai orang-orang Saduki yang disebutkandalam bacaan Injil hari ini. Mereka tidak percaya akan kebangkitan badan,demikian juga keberadaan surga. Oleh karena itu mereka juga tidak percayaadanya malaikat-malaikat. Mereka hanya percaya bahwa surga itu adalah rasagembira dan kepuasan dunia ini. Apakah anggapan bahwa tidak ada kebangkitan badan dantidak adanya surga masih ada di sekitar kita? Kita yang mengikuti renunganharian dan yang tekun dalam iman yang otentik, tentu tidak termasuk kategoriitu. Kita juga tidak ingin mengambil risiko untuk  memaksakan diri masuk dalam kelompokorang-orang yang tidak percaya akan kebangkitan badan dan kehidupan kekal.  Di balik risiko itu ialah suatu nasib seperti orang yangbertemu jalan buntu setelah melalui liku-liku hidup di dunia ini. Akhir darisemua itu hanyalah kematian dan tidak ada yang lain. Kalau akhir atau ujungnyaadalah kematian, konsekuensinya ialah semangat hidup dan fokus orang-orang didunia ini hanya untuk menikmati dunia ini saja dengan segala macam cara dansituasinya. Karena setelah dari dunia ini tak ada apa-apa lagi yang akandinikmati.  Misalnya tentang kawin dan hidup berkeluarga. Akhir hidupdi dunia ini adalah kematian. Namun kehidupan baru akan berlanjut di dalamkebangkitan sebagai para roh, yang hidupnya sebagai saudara-saudari sesama anakTuhan yang sudah tidak perlu lagi hidup seperti di dunia. Roh tidak bisa kawin,yang kawin adalah badan. Kita hanya perlu mempersiapkan diri untuk menyambutkematian dan kebangkitan. Masing-masing kita harus pertama-tama yakin, kemudiankita perlu meyakinkan orang lain keyakinan yang sangat utama ini. Kalau ada yang penasaran kehidupan setelah mati sepertiapa, jawaban satu-satunya yang pasti ialah Yesus, karena hanya Dia yang telahkembali dari kematian. Kita hanya perlu mendengarkan dan mengikuti Dia. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Today the whole Church commemorates the Presentation of the Blessed VirginMary to God. This event is not found in scriptures, but is part of the Church'ssacred tradition and history. The little Mary who was offered in the temple ofGod, was a continuation of her special gift, that is, she was conceived withoutsin because she had been chosen by God from the beginning of her life. The Church believes that from the beginning the wombof the pregnant mother who conceived  Mary was sacred. Born holy, Mary must had enteredthe womb of the communion of God's people which God has ordained from thebeginning in the eternal communion of the holy Trinity. Mary then lived a life inthe fullness of God's grace, until the moment she received the heavenly goodnews to make her the Mother of God, and took a very important role in the lifeof Jesus Christ.  God chose Mary is purely an act of his divineinitiative. In response to that initiative, Mary as a person and all those whotake part in her mission gratefully dedicate their whole lives to God. Thus theevent of Mary's presentation to God must be the primary model for all humanself-offering to God, and the sign of that offering is seen when a person is consecratedin the house of God through an official rite. There are somany means, rituals and places that are sanctified to help us purify ourselvesbefore God. One of them is holy worship which is celebrated to give offeringsof gratitude and praise to God. In the first reading it is said how JudasMaccabees with the Jews who were obedient to God consecrated the altar andjoyfully offered sacrifices to God. Jesus once came to the temple and cleansed itbecause it was used as a marketplace by the Pharisees and the Jews. The holytemple was defiled with shameful worldly activities.  This desecrated temple could no longer be themeans and rituals of sanctification in the moments when God and his peopleencountered. Sacred meansand instruments are not the purpose of our faith. They are very important and haveroles in helping us to achieve the goal, which is to meet God and live withHim. Our important task is to cleanse it from desecration, use it as we should,teach it to those who do not yet know, and when necessary, repair as it isbroken, and maintain it with responsibility. Letus pray. Maria kecil yangdipersembahkan di rumah Allah yang suci, merupakan kelanjutan karunia khususkepadanya yaitu ia dikandung tanpa noda dosa sebab ia sudah terpilih oleh Allahsejak awal hidupnya. Umat Gereja sejak awal mempunyaikeyakinan kalau rahim ibunda yang mengandung Maria adalah suci. Terlahir suci,Maria mesti memasuki rahim persekutuan umat Allah yang sudah ditetapkan olehAllah sejak awal mula dalam persekutuan abadi pribadi-pribadi Tritunggal suci .Maria lalu menjalani sebuah kehidupan penuh dengan rahmat Allah, sampaimenerima kabar suka cita, dan mengambil peran amat penting dalam hidup YesusKristus.  Maria yang terpilih semata-matamerupakan inisiatif ilahi. Sebagai tanggapan terhadap itu, ia sebagai pribadidan semua orang yang mengambil bagian dalam perutusannya dengan penuh syukurmempersembahkan segenap hidup mereka kepada Tuhan. Di dalam bacaan pertama dikisahkan bagaimanaYudas Makabeus bersama orang-orang Yahudi yang taat kepada Allah menahbiskanmezbah dan dengan suka cita mempersembahkan kurban kepada Allah. Rumah ibadatyang dijadikan pasar dan dinodai dengan aktivitas duniawi yang memalukan, dibersihkanoleh Yesus.  Penodaan ini pasti tidakdapat lagi menjadi sarana dan ritual pengudusan kita. Sarana dan instrumen yang suci itu bukan sebagaitujuan kita beriman. Mereka sangat penting dan berperan membantu kita supayamencapai tujuan, yaitu berjumpa dengan Tuhan dan tinggal bersama Dia. Tugaskita yang penting ialah membersihkannya dari penodaan, menggunakan sesuaifungsinya, mengajarkannya kepada mereka yang belum mengetahui, menambahkan biladiperlukan, memperbaiki yang rusak, dan memeliharanya dengan tekun. Marilahkita berdoa. There was a recent flood disaster that hit a village inhabited byCatholics. There stands a parish church which was built with community'sself-funded funds about ten years ago. Half of the church building wasdestroyed by the floods, along with much damage to the village. What standsfirm and is not affected by anything is the bell tower on which there is across. Every parishioner and visitor who saw the condition ofthe badly damaged church building showed sadness and shared in the grieftogether. They reminisced about the times when they worked together to buildit. They remember the wonderful times when they worshipped together ingratitude and the warmth of faith among the priest and his people. They notedthat there have been so many sacramental celebrations performed in the church.  We all understand that the church is a place where Goddwells. In His public ministry, Jesus Christ sanctified every place He enteredand visited. The temple is no longer centered in one place, but is in JesusChrist who moves, walks, and reaches every home and person of those who welcomeHim. Jesus brought His own temple to sanctify all who came to or encountered. The worship and purification of God's house is clearlydemonstrated by Mattathias and his Jewish sons, as narrated in today's firstreading. King Antiochus Epiphanes forced the Jews to abandon their worship ofthe Lord God, and to follow the idolatry of the pagans. Mattathias and hisgroup resisted the imposition of the will vigorously, that following the king'swill meant destruction, while following the Lord God meant salvation. Jesus himself fell in pity and became very sad aboutthe holy place, the house of God in Jerusalem which was full of stains of sinbecause of the actions of the religious leaders and the unbelievers in a trueand sincere way. As a result of the desecration, the house will be destroyed tothe ground. In fact, God was foretelling that the kingdom of this world,represented by the magnificent Jerusalem, will in due time be destroyed. Thishappened around 71 AD, Jerusalem was really destroyed by the invaders, namelythe Romans.  Later in the course of time and up to this moment,earthly Jerusalem has never lived in peace and joy. Adasuatu bencana banjir baru-baru ini yang menimpa sebuah desa yang didiami olehumat Katolik. Di situ berdiri sebuah gereja Paroki yang dibangun dengan swadayaumat, sekitar sepuluh tahun lalu. Setengah bagian bangunan gereja itu hancurditerjang banjir, bersama dengan banyak kerusakan dalam desa tersebut. Yangberdiri kokoh dan tidak terdampak apa-apa ialah menara lonceng yang dipuncaknyaada salib. Setiap umat Paroki dan pengunjung yang melihat kondisibangunan gereja yang rusak parah itu menunjukkan rasa sedih dan ikut berbagidalam duka bersama. Mereka mengenang saat-saat ketika mereka bergotong-royongmembangunnya. Mereka mengingat saat-saat indah ketika mereka beribadah bersamadalam rasa syukur dan kehangatn iman di antara imam dan para umatnya. Merekamencatat sudah begitu banyak perayaan sakramen-sakramen yang dilakukan di dalamgereja itu.  Kita semua paham bahwa gereja merupakan tempat Tuhanberdiam. Di dalam pelayanan publik-Nya, Yesus Kristus menguduskan setiap tempatyang Ia masuki dan kunjungi. Bait suci tidak lagi hanya berpusat di satu tempatsaja, tetapi berada di dalam Yesus Kristus yang bergerak, berjalan danmenjangkau setiap rumah dan diri orang-orang yang menyambut-Nya. Yesus membawabait suci diri-Nya sendiri untuk menguduskan semua yang didatangi ataudijumpai. Pemujaan dan pemurnian rumah Allah dengan jelasditunjukkan oleh Matatias dan anak-anaknya yang beriman Yahudi, dalam bacaanpertama hari ini. Raja Antiochus Epifanes memaksakan orang Yahudi untukmeninggalkan penyembahannya kepada Tuhan Allah, dan mengikuti penyembahanberhala orang kafir. Matatias bersama kelompoknya melawan dengan keras pemaksaankehendak itu, bahwa mengikuti keinginan raja berarti hancur, sedangkanmengikuti Tuhan Allah berarti selamat. Yesus sendiri jatuh kasihan dan menjadi sedih sekalidengan tempat suci, rumah Tuhan di Yerusalem yang penuh dengan noda dosa karenaulah para pemuka agama dan umat yang tidak beriman dengan benar dan tulus.Akibat penodaan itu, rumah itu akan hancur rata dengan tanah. Sebenarnya Tuhansedang meramalkan bahwa kerajaan dunia ini yang diwakili oleh Yerusalem yangamat megah, pada saatnya akan hancur. Hal ini terjadi sekitar pada tahun 71Masehi, Yerusalem sungguh hancur oleh bangsa penjajah, yaitu bangsa Romawi.  Selanjutnya dalam perjalanan waktu dan sampai detik ini,Yerusalem yang duniawi itu tidak pernah hidup di dalam damai suka cita.Gambaran ini amat cocok disamakan dengan diri setiap orang beriman yang ditimpadosa dan kedurhakaan. Kehancuran dan kebinasaan akan segera datang. Tuhanmenangisi keadaan kita yang penuh dengan dosa. Within a WhatsApp group ofyoung people, there was an interesting discussion about crimes and evilsagainst members of the Church. There have been many bishops, priests andreligious who have offered their lives for the sake of Christ and the Gospel.There have been many lay people, families, youth and children who havesacrificed their lives just because they are Christians and members of theChurch. In general, thatdiscussion provoked feelings of fear, vigilance and anger at those crimesbefell the Christians. However, at the end of discussion, they had an agreementthat the crime basically had happened to Jesus Christ with the suffering withthe cross which was very shameful. Jesus himself promised to His followers, allof us members of the Church, that we will face various kinds of evil andsuffering. In short, the Church really experiences martyrdom as part of ourjourney of faith. In manyinstances, such cruel treatment to the members of the Church everywhere in theworld can be classified as terrorism. Today's first reading from the secondbook of Maccabees describes the brutality of terrorism. The King Antiochus Epiphanesand his men killed seven Jewish brothers: skinning their heads, decapitatingthem, frying them one by one, while other boys and their mother were forced towatch. The mother was forced to persuade children who were still alive to renouncefaith in God, or eliminate the sacred traditions of the ancestors. However, theirreaction to fight back with spiritual terrorism was stronger. They depended onthe faith in God and holy traditions to defeat the power of the king. Childrenwho were persuaded to abandon their true faith were killed as martyrs, yet theywere victorious in the power of God. Finally, the mother was also martyred. Thetrue faith of the family was so strong and had defeated the cruelty of theterrorists. Until now, there has been only way that the Church uses to fightterrorism is to remain in true faith even to the point of death. The experienceof martyrdom as described above is for us the way to increase our faith anddevelop in spiritual life. We are proud and happy as members of the Church forwe have been raised and strengthened by the blood of martyrs. We might notexperience as cruel treatment as they were in the past. But our big challenge nowis to remain and be filled in this faith. Our justification is to live in thisfaith properly and have its fruitful impact. The servants who multipliedtalents given to them, as described in the passage of the Gospel today can be theexample for us to be responsible in our faith. By taking responsibility for ourfaith when we are still on earth, we will easily be accountable for it in thehereafter. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... Di dalam satu grup Whatsapp orang-orang muda, ada satudiskusi menarik tentang kejahatan-kejahatan terhadap anggota-anggota Gereja.Ada Uskup, imam dan biarawan yang dibunuh. Ada orang awam, keluarga, orang mudaatau anak-anak yang dianiaya, hanya karena mereka beriman kepada Kristus dansebagai orang Katolik. Secara umum diskusi itu mengungkapkan perasaan takut,waspada dan geram terhadap kejahatan-kejahatan tersebut. Namun akhirnya paraorang muda tersebut memiliki kesepakatan bahwa kejahatan tersebut pada dasarnyaterjadi pada Yesus Kristus dengan penderitaan salib-Nya yang sangat memalukan.Yesus sendiri janjikan kepada para pengikut-Nya, kita semua anggota Gereja,bahwa kejahatan dan penderitaan yang sama akan kita hadapi. Singkatnya, Gerejayang mengalami nasib sebagai martir adalah bagian dari perjalanan iman kita.  Dalam banyak peristiwa, perlakuan keji terhadap paramartir dan anggota Gereja di mana pun sampai saat ini dapat digolongkan sebagaiterorisme. Bacaan pertama hari ini dari kitab kedua Makabe menggambarkankebrutalan terorisme itu. Raja Antiokus dan orang-orangnya membantai tujuhbersaudara Yahudi: menguliti kepala, memenggal tubuh, menggoreng mereka satudemi satu, sambil anak lelaki lain dan ibu mereka dipaksa menyaksikannya. Sangibu dipaksa supaya membujuk anak-anak yang masih hidup untuk meninggalkan imankepada Tuhan, atau menghilangkan tradisi suci nenek moyang yang religius.  Tetapi aksi melawan balik dengan terorisme rohani dariiman yang kuat kepada Tuhan dan tradisi suci ternyata lebih kuat. Anak-anakyang dibujuk itu menang demi Tuhan meski mereka harus dibunuh juga sebagaimartir. Akhirnya sang bunda juga ikut dibunuh dan menjadi martir. Iman keluargaitu begitu kuat sehingga dapat mengalahkan teroris. Sampai dengan saat ini,satu-satunya cara yang Gereja pakai untuk melawan teroris ialah bertahan dalamiman meski diancam mati sekalipun.  Pengalaman kemartiran di atas cukup buat kita untukmengindahkan iman dan kehidupan rohani kita. Kita bangga dan gembira sebagaianggota Gereja yang sudah dibesarkan dan dikuatkan oleh para martir. Kitamungkin tidak mengalami perlakukan keji seperti mereka. Tetapi tantangan besarkita yaitu mempertahankan iman ini. Caranya ialah mempertanggungjawabkan itusecara benar dan berdampak indah. Para hamba yang memperbanyak talentaberlipat-lipat, seperti yang digambarkan perumpamaan Yesus dalam Injil hariini,  dapat menjadi contoh bagi kitauntuk beriman yang bertanggung jawab. Dengan mempertanggungjawabkan iman dibumi, kita akan dengan mudah mempertanggungjawabkan iman di akhirat nanti. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa yang murah hati,perkuatkanlah kami untuk dapat menolak rasa takut, mudah putus asa dan cepatmenyerah, tetapi menyanggupi kuasa Roh Kudus untuk menjadikan kami anak-anak-Muyang bertanggung jawab. Many peopleacknowledge that phone calls to personal cell phones that only appear innumbers but have no photo identity and name are better ignored. A common reasongiven is that the caller is a stranger. There are various prejudices that areimposed on strangers, for example callers who have no identity, guests whosuddenly arrive without prior notice, and people who get lost and come to us. Let us imaginefor a moment, if the stranger happened to be the Lord Jesus. Our reaction mightbe the same as we did with other strangers. But because the Lord Jesus wants tobring good news to us, He certainly gives some special signs, so that we canknow him. As happened with Zacchaeus, the Lord was the first to give thesignal. The sign began with news of him entering the city and walking throughthe city. Furthermore, through all his movements, greetings and words, peoplebecame interested and began to come to him. He toldZacchaeus in the city of Jericho that he would come to the house of that richtax collector and great sinner. Once he came there, both the person of thesinner and his home were sanctified. There was salvation happening in the lifeof Zacchaeus. Mary was visited by the Holy Spirit and made her Mother of God.We are also visited by divine grace through our birth on earth, towards a newbirth in faith when we were baptized in the house of God, the Church. It is thefamily, culture and society all together offer a human child to God. Through thatbaptism, we ourselves become the legitimate house of God. Our families fromevery house that each of us belong to, come together to make the house of God.Every person and families are then bound to the Church which is a communion ofone body with Jesus Christ as the head. Every time we gather and worship God inthe Church, it is a moment of communion of a whole, one, and universal house ofGod. After that worshiping moment, we return to our respective houses with alldaily routines always in that sense of the community of believers. If we fallinto sins for a variety of reasons, both grave and venial, many or few, thecommunion of the Church becomes disrupted and even injured. Jesus must havepity on us and put His power to improve this by visiting both ourselves and ourfamilies. The important thing is we are open and accept Him coming intoourselves and our families. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... Banyak orang mengakui bahwa panggilan telepon ke ponsel pribadiyang hanya muncul nomor tetapi tidak ada identitas foto dan nama, langsung sajadiabaikan. Alasan yang umum diberikan ialah karena penelepon itu orang asingatau tidak dikenal. Ada berbagai prasangka buruk yang dikenakan kepadaorang-orang asing, misalnya penelepon yang tidak punya identitas, tamu yangtiba-tiba datang tanpa pemberitahuan lebih dahulu, dan orang tersesat yangsempat datang kepada kita. Marilah kita bayangkan sejenak, sekiranya orang asing ituadalah Tuhan Yesus. Reaksi kita mungkin akan sama seperti kita lakukan kepadaorang-orang asing lainnya. Namun karena Tuhan Yesus berkehendak untuk membawakabar baik kepada kita, Ia tentu memberikan tanda spesial-Nya, supaya kitadapat mengenal Dia. Seperti yang terjadi dengan Zakeus, Tuhan yang pertamamemberikan tanda. Tanda itu dimulai dengan kabar tentang Ia masuk ke dalam kotadan berjalan-jalan di dalam kota. Selanjutnya, melalui semua gerakan, sapaan,dan kata-kata-Nya itu. orang-orang menjadi tertarik dan mulai berdatangankepada-Nya. Ia berkata kepada Zakeus di kota Yeriko bahwa Ia akandatang ke rumah orang kaya pemungut bea dan pendosa berat itu. Begitu ia datangke sana, baik rumah maupun pribadi si pendosa dikuduskan. Ada keselamatanterjadi dalam kehidupan Zakeus. Bunda Maria didatangi oleh Roh Kudus danmenjadikannya Bunda Allah. Kita juga didatangi karunia ilahi melalui  kelahiran kita di dunia, kepada suatukelahiran baru dalam iman ketika kita dibaptis di dalam rumah Allah, yaituGereja. Itu adalah peristiwa persembahan keluarga, budaya dan masyarakat dalambentuk seorang anak manusia kepada Tuhan. Melalui pembaptisan itu, diri kita resmi menjadi rumahAllah. Keluarga kita di rumah masing-masing merupakan kumpulan rumah-rumahAllah dari setiap anggota keluarga. Pribadi maupun keluarga itu kemudianterikat dengan Gereja yang menjadi persekutuan bersama satu tubuh dengan Yesussebagai kepala. Setiap kali kita berkumpul dan beribadah di Gereja, itu adalahkesempatan persekutuan satu rumah Allah utuh, satu dan universal. Setelahberibadat, kita kembali ke rutinitas masing-masing dalam persekutuan dan keterikatantersebut. Sekiranya kita mengalami hidup dalam dosa karena anekasebab, baik dosa berat maupun ringan, banyak maupun sedikit, keterikatan itumenjadi terganggu bahkan luka. Yesus pasti kasihan dan menaruh kuasa-Nya untukmemperbaiki itu dengan mendatangi baik pribadi maupun keluarga kita. Yangpenting kita terbuka dan menerimanya masuk ke dalam diri kita dan rumahkeluarga kita.Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... There is a story in the Old Testament,about a number of Israelites choosing to submit to the decree of King AntiochusEpiphanes to worship the gods of the Gentiles. For that reason, they built agymnasium in Jerusalem and many temples in the midst of their very religioustraditions. Buttheir actions were opposed by other fellow Jews who remained firm in theirfaith in the God of their ancestors. These believers could see God veryclearly. While those who chose to worship idols had their eyes closed so theywere not able to see and worship the true God. This is the content of our firstreading taken from the First Book of Maccabees. Thissituation is also described in the Gospel of today. People who were worldly intheir attitude wanted to prevent the meeting of the blind man with Jesus sothat he would not receive healing and sight. Meanwhile, the blind man hadfaith. He saw and called on the Lord. Our lives are also divided between thosewith the eyes of faith that enable them to see clearly and the eyes of theworld that are blurred and even blind, making them unable to see the mystery ofGod's glory. Thosewho are consistent and faithful in their faith are considered to have visionsof faith that are clear, real, and bright. This vision indeed builds a person'strust. These eyes of faith shape the life of a believer, so that even thoughthey are in difficult moments, troubles, and persecutions, it is this faiththat helps them endure in life. When they see and experience disaster, murder,hunger, sickness, and neglect, they will respond with an attitude formed byfaith. However,perhaps many of us have difficulty in seeing with the eyes of faith. Perhaps wewho hear this meditation are not the same as those who worship idols, or whohave renounced faith, or who are hostile toward believers. But it can be truethat in the midst of difficulties or suffering, both spiritual and physical,there are people who are unable to face them with an attitude of faith. Perhapspeople immediately think negatively, or see things only in physical, outward,or material terms. Consequently, their souls become fragile and easily losehope. But if their souls are strong, their faith firm, and their vision offaith clear, they will still rely on God in all aspects of their lives. So, theprayer that we ought to say is: O Lord, may I see You. Let's pray. In thename of the Father… O Father of all wisdom, may we be able to see with the eyesof faith all realities of life, especially the difficulties and sufferings weexperience. Sedangkan yang berbalikuntuk menyembah berhala sudah tertutup matanya untuk dapat melihat danmenyembah Tuhan Allah yang benar. Ini merupakan isi bacaan pertama kita yangdiambil dari kitab pertama Makabe.  Keadaan itu juga digambarkan di dalam Injil. Orang-orangyang sangat duniawi sifatnya ingin menghalangi pertemuan orang buta denganYesus supaya ia mendapatkan penyembuhan dan penglihatan. Sementara itu si butaitu punya iman. Ia melihat dan memanggil Tuhan. Kehidupan kita jugaterbagi-bagi antara mata iman yang jernih sehingga dapat melihat dengan jelasdan mata duniawi yang kabur bahkan buta, maka tidak dapat melihat rahasiakemuliaan Tuhan. Mereka yang konsisten dan setia dalam imannya dianggapmemiliki penglihatan iman yang jernih, nyata dan terang. Penglihatan inimenciptakan suatu keyakinan atau kepercayaan. Mata iman seperti ini membentukhidup seorang beriman, sehingga meskipun ia berada di dalam keadaan hidup yangsulit, terancam dan teraniaya, keyakinan imannya itulah yang mempertahankanhidupnya. Mereka melihat dan mengalami bencana, pembunuhan, kelaparan, penyakitdan keterlantaran, mereka akan menyikapi itu dengan suatu keyakinan iman yangmewarnai semua sikap hidupnya. Namun mungkin banyak di antara kita memiliki kesulitanuntuk melihat dengan memakai mata iman. Mungkin kita yang mendengar renunganini bukan termasuk orang-orang yang memuja berhala, atau yang meninggalkan imandan yang memusuhi orang-orang yang beriman. Tetapi bisa jadi, di tengahkesulitan atau penderitaan baik rohani maupun jasmani, ada orang yang tidaksanggup menghadapi itu dengan sikap imannya. Mungkin orang langsung berpikirnegatif, atau melihatnya hanya dari segi fisik, lahiriah, atau materi. Akibatnya,jiwa mereka menjadi rapuh dan mudah putus asa. Tetapi seandainya jiwanya kuat,keyakinan imannya teguh, penglihatan imannya jelas, mereka akan tetapmengandalkan Tuhan dalam seluruh sisi hidupnya. Maka doa yang pantas kitapanjatkan ialah: ya Tuhan, semoga aku dapat melihat. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... There was a big fight going on in afamily. It started from a misunderstanding of husband and wife. Because eachdid not accept the other, one threatened the other to get out of the house. Thehusband prepared to get out of the house. But at the same time, the wife wasalso preparing to leave. All three children cried and tried their best to stoptheir parents' try to leave the house. They put all effort to prevent thisfrightening act they did not want to happen. The eldest son accompanied by histwo younger siblings stood at the door to prevent the father or mother fromleaving the house. Because of the strongefforts of the three children, the parents put off their desire to get out ofthe house. This happening in this family actually illustrates two importantthings that determine the fate of the family: escape from problems or endure toface and overcome them. The choice made indicates one's human quality and spiritualstrength. There are so manyproblems and difficulties we face in this life. Today's Gospel illustrates anumber of big, complicated and very frightening problems. These two choicesalways challenge us to choose which is the best. For the best option, JesusChrist commands us to choose to endure. He gives us a perfect example, namelyHimself who endured to the end of His life, during the moment on the cross asHe cried out before his last breath: "It's finished". The Lord Jesus indeedasks us to endure whatever the circumstances at any time. Our goal to endure isthat we may obtain salvation in the hands of God. There are several supporting elementsthat help us to endure. First is the promise of the coming of the Lord on theday according to God's will. If there is promise as the truth to hold on, thefact that the promise is made for us by the Lord himself as stated by the thebook of the Prophet Malachi, people certainly have reason to stay and toendure. Second, according to the responsorial psalms of today, the realizationof the promise is very important. Everyone is certain about his or her destiny,which is determined by the final judgment to decide on every human person'sworthiness  to enter the kingdom ofheaven. Third is the abilityto use the time during the periode of endurance. This ability refers to theattitudes a calmness, patience, and keep working to solve the problems we faceon earth. Maybe the problem is about many people around us who are jobless,insufficiency of people's basic needs and other real problems that humans faceat the present moment. In this period of endurance, we must be able to work forthe salvation of all souls that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised us and hasmandated us to do. Ada pertengkaran besar sedang terjadi di dalam keluarga. Awalnya darisalah paham suami dan istri. Karena masing-masingnya tidak saling menerima,yang satu mengancam yang lainnya untuk keluar dari rumah. Suami bersiap untukkeluar dari rumah. Tetapi pada saat yang sama, istri juga bersiap untuk keluar.Anak-anak semuanya menangis dan melawan keinginan orang tua yang mau keluardari rumah. Mereka berusaha mencegahnya. Anak sulung ditemani dua adiknyaberdiri di pintu untuk menghalangi bapak atau ibunya pergi dari rumah. Karena begitu serunya usaha ketiga anak, akhirnya keduaorang tua mereka membatalkan keinginan keluar dari rumah. Kejadian di dalamkeluarga ini sebenarnya menggambarkan dua hal penting yang menjadi penentunasib keluarga tersebut: melarikan diri dari masalah atau bertahan untukmenghadapi dan mengatasinya. Pilihan yang diambil menunjukkan seperti apa kualitasmanusianya.  Ada begitu banyak masalah dan kesulitan yang kita hadapi.Injil pada hari ini justru menggambarkan sejumlah masalah besar, rumit dansangat menakutkan. Dua pilihan itu senantiasa menantang kita untuk dapatmemilih yang terbaik. Untuk yang terbaik, Yesus Kristus memerintahkan kitamemilih untuk bertahan. Ia sendiri sudah memberikan kita contoh, yaitu diri-Nyasendiri yang bertahan sampai akhir hidup-Nya, persis ketika di atas salib Iaberseru sebelum menghembuskan nafas terakhir: "Sudah selesai". Tuhan Yesus sungguh meminta kita untuk bertahan, apa punkeadaannya, kapan pun waktunya. Tujuan kita bertahan adalah supaya kitaselamat. Ada beberapa sarana pendukung yang membantu kita untuk bertahan.Pertama adalah janji akan datangnya hari Tuhan. Jika tidak ada suatu janjisebagai pegangan, apalagi yang menjanjikan ialah Tuhan sendiri seperti yangdiamanatkan oleh Nubuat Maleakhi, orang tidak memiliki alasan untuk bertahan.Kedua, menurut Mazmur tanggapan hari ini, perwujudan janji menjadi sangatpenting. Setiap orang menjadi pasti tentang nasibnya, yaitu ditentukan olehpengadilan terakhir apakah seseorang itu layak atau tidak layak masuk di dalamkerajaan surga. Ketiga ialah kemampuan mengisi waktu selama bertahandengan sikap tenang, penuh kesabaran, dan tetap bekerja bagi penyelesaianmasalah-masalah yang kita dihadapi. Mungkin masalah itu menyangkut pekerjaanyang tidak beres, kebutuhan dasar yang tidak cukup atau masalah kehidupanlainnya. Di dalam masa bertahan itu, kita mesti mampu bekerja demi tercapainyakeselamatan yang sudah dijanjikan Tuhan Yesus Kristus kepada kita. Bertahandalam kekosongan adalah sebuah kebodohan.Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... A 6-year-old girl often accompaniedher mother to shop at the market. She notices that her mother always requestsfor discount to the things being bought. What a surprise! She asks for discountmore than half of the price. When the seller objects the discounted price, themother always says: "Sorry, we have nothing, we are very poor." On one occasion thegirl used her small savings to buy something at the shop nearby. She alsowanted to ask for dicount imitating what her mother usually does. Before sayingwhat she wanted to buy, she first said to the shop owner, "Sorry, we havenothing, we are very poor." Then she showed the item she was about to buy.The shop owner took the item and gave it to the little girl for free. In this life we seemeetings between the small and big ones, poor and rich, master and servants,powerful and powerless. The screams and cries of the poor or little ones alwaysattract attention. They shout either directly to certain people who immediatelygive attentions, or openly to the public and it's up to anyone who would payattention to them. Their screams and cries can only stop after their requestsare answered or attended. God has compassionfor these people. God acts quickly and becomes their savior at the right time.They are the people who do not have supporters, defenders and protectors. Theparable of the widow and her case to be solved by the lawyer in today's gospelpassage is an example of how the divine assistance comes at the very time manreally needs. In the scriptures there are many similar examples that show God'shelps come quickly and rightly. Many of us have everexpereinced God's helps comes quickly and rightly. Some people admit that theirprayers have not been answered. Therefore, they tend to view God is not yet intheir side. Some are patient enough to wait for an answer at the right time.Some have given up because they already waited for a long time, then theybecome passive and apathetic. Some even are emotionally driven by anger orhostile towards God because they are frustrated knowing no sign of the Lord'sfavor for them. It maybe true thatthe time is not yet right. Why? Because God is using our neighbors to be thehelpers. For sure, our immediate helps should come from there. The helpsactually come from God himself, who uses neighbors who are near to us. Let's pray. Ia perhatikan bahwaibunya selalu menawarkan barang-barang yang akan dibeli. Tidaktanggung-tanggung, tawaran potongan harga itu bisa lebih dari setengah hargapas. Ketika penjual keberatan dengan potongan harga, ibu itu selalu berkata:"Maaf, kami orang kecil, kami miskin sekali." Pada suatu ketika bocah itu memakai uang tabungannya untukmembeli sesuatu di toko. Ia juga ingin menawarkan barang dengan meniru apa yangbiasa dibuat ibunya. Sebelum mengatakan barang yang hendak dibeli, ia lebihdahulu berkata kepada pemilik toko, "Maaf, kami orang kecil, kami miskinsekali." Lalu ia menunjukkan barang yang hendak dibelinya. Pemilik tokoitu mengambil barang tersebut dan memberikan gratis kepada gadis ciliktersebut.  Di dalam hidup ini terjadi pertemuan biasa antara orangkecil dan besar, orang miskin dan kaya, tuan dan hamba. Teriakan dan tangisanorang kecil atau miskin selalu menarik perhatian. Mereka berteriak entahlangsung kepada orang-orang tertentu yang segera memberikan perhatian, entahsecara terbuka kepada publik dan terserah siapa saja yang akan memperhatikan.Teriakan mereka hanya dapat berhenti setelah permintaan mereka terpenuhi atauterjawab.  Tuhan memiliki belas kasih terhadap orang-orang ini. Tuhanbertindak cepat dan menjadi pembebas mereka pada saat yang pas dan tepat.Mereka itu ialah orang-orang yang tidak punya pendukung, pembela dan penopang.Perumpamaan tentang janda dan perkaranya yang ditangani oleh si pengacara dalamperumpamaan hari ini merupakan contohnya. Di dalam kitab suci banyak sekalicontoh-contoh sejenis, ketika Tuhan menolong pada waktu yang cepat dan tepat. Banyak di antara kita yang mendapat pertolongan Tuhandalam waktu yang cepat. Ada orang mengakui doa-doanya belum terkabulkan. Makaitu, mereka berpandangan kalau Tuhan belum berpihak pada mereka. Ada yang cukupsabar menantikan datangnya jawaban pada saat yang tepat. Ada yang sudahmenyerah karena mereka menunggu lama, lalu menjadi pasif dan apatis. Bahkan adayang pakai emosi sampai menjadi marah-marah kepada Tuhan.   Bisa jadi waktunya belum pas. Mengapa belum, karena Tuhansedang menggunakan sesama kita untuk membantu. Harus diakui, pertolongan yangpaling dekat mestinya datang dari situ, karena sebenarnya pertolongan itu dariTuhan sendiri, yang memakai orang-orang di sekitar untuk melakukannya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... ya Tuhan, kamimenaruh harapan untuk kelayakan hidup saudara dan saudari kami yang sangatberkekurangan dan tak berdaya lagi; semoga mereka mendapatkan pertolongandari-Mu. A mother advised her two children who arestill in elementary school and who are lazy to pray, that they may regain theirexcitement to pray. They asked, "What's the point of praying always andnot become lazy to pray?" The mother said that now we might not have itsuse, but later at the end of time it will be very useful. The two children areagain eager to pray. The reason they always remember certainly there is the endof time, even though they do not understand anything about the end of time. The end of timeaccording to our faith is a reality that will happen later, when one departsfrom this world. We can not think and explain it only with reason, but mustalso with faith. The end of time assures that in this reality we willexperience the true God as He is, whom we always call his name while we stillin this world. For this reason, the book of Wisdom of today's first readingconfirms our encounter at the end of time with our God, the Creator and Rulerof all, who is the Lord of all beauty, power and goodness. The scripturesexplain the end of time calling through the teachings of Jesus Christ and thevision of the saints. These teachings and testimonies are manifested indifferent forms of explanation. It is our duty to understand them correctly inorder to believe correctly too. If we heed this call very well, we understandit all about and we believe in it while we still in this world, then our hopeto encounter the end of time is always something we expect without doubt. Today we are taughtthat the end of time contains two main things, namely the second coming ofJesus Christ and the life of the hereafter. The following are a number of signsof the end of time according to the scriptures: 1) it comes at an unexpectedtime, 2) when we go through our daily lives as usual, 3) a sudden coming, 4)after a cruel persecution of the Church, 5) after a terrible earthquake,plague, famine in various places and in the sky there are great signs ofnature, 6) after a mass apostasy, 7) after the power of the Antichrist isdestroyed, 8) when love for the oppressed and sufferings becomes cold, 9) whenthe gospel already preached to all corners of the world, 10) when all Israelsare saved, 11) when this Church becomes holy and without defects, withoutstains and scratches of any form. There have been manypredictions of the end of time to happen, but until this moment it has not yethappened. What for us certain is this: we will prepare ourselves, and if themoment our own death comes, it is the end of every one's time. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Seorang ibu menasihatkan kedua anaknya yang masih sd yang sudah malasberdoa, supaya kembali bersemangat. Mereka bertanya, "Apa gunanya berdoadan tidak boleh malas?" Sang ibu berkata bahwa sekarang mungkin kita belummendapatkan kegunaannya, namun nanti pada akhir zaman akan sangat bermanfaat.Kedua anak itu kembali bersemangat berdoa, dan alasan yang mereka ingat ialahakhir zaman, meskipun mereka tidak mengerti apa-apa tentang akhir zaman.  Akhir zaman merupakan sesuatu realitas iman yang baru akanterjadi nanti. Kita tidak bisa berpikir hanya dengan akal budi, tapi harus jugadengan iman. Akhir zaman menjamin bahwa realitas yang akan kita alamimemperlihatkan Tuhan Allah yang sesungguhnya, yang selalu kita sebut namanya didunia ini. Oleh karena itu kitab Kebijaksanaan dalam bacaan pertama membenarkankalau yang kita jumpai nanti ialah Penguasa dan Pembentuk segalanya, yangmenjadi Tuhan atas segala keindahan, kekuasaan dan kebaikan. Kitab suci menjelaskan tentang akhir zaman melalui ajaranYesus Kristus dan penglihatan orang-orang kudus. Ajaran dan kesaksian inidisampaikan dalam bentuk penjelasan yang berbeda-beda. Kita yang perlumemahaminya secara benar agar dapat mengimaninya secara benar pula. Jika kitamemiliki perhitungan tentangnya, mengetahui gambarannya seperti apa danmengimaninya selagi masih di dunia, maka harapan kita untuk menyongsong akhirzaman menjadi sesuatu yang menggembirakan. Pada hari ini kita diajarkan bahwa akhir zaman itu berisidua hal utama, yaitu kedatangan Yesus kembali dan dunia ini akan mengalamiakhirat. Berikut ini adalah sejumlah ciri atau tandanya menurut kitab suci: 1)ia datang pada saat yang tidak kita duga, 2) pada saat orang-orang dunia inimenjalani hidup seperti biasanya, 3) datangnya tiba-tiba, 4) setelah suatupenganiayaan Gereja yang terparah, 5) setelah adanya gempa bumi dahsyat, wabahpenyakit, kelaparan di berbagai tempat dan di langit tampak tanda-tanda alamyang menggemparkan, 6) setelah terjadi pemurtadan secara masal, 7) setelahkekuatan Antikristus dibinasakan, 8) ketika kasih kepada mereka yang sangatmembutuhkan menjadi dingin, 9) ketika Injil telah diwartakan sampai ke segenappelosok dunia, 10) ketika segenap Israel dapat diselamatkan, 11) ketika Gerejaini menjadi kudus dan tak bercela, tanpa noda dan goresan apa pun bentuknya. Sudah sekian banyak prediksi terjadinya akhir zaman itu,namun sampai detik ini belum sampai terjadi. Yang pasti ialah ini: kita akanmempersiapkan diri, dan jika kematian diri kita sendiri datang itu adalah akhirzaman setiap orang. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Jesus Christ said this to thePharisees. Although there are no more Pharisees today, the pharisaic spirit isalive. A mother always corrects her children in this manner: "Don't becomehypocritical like the Pharisees." A life that is not sincere and full oflies is a life of the pharisaic spirit. So, following the reminder of themother, the children always remember that the pharisaic attitude isactually  bad and sinfull. The Pharisees wereasking for a sign of the coming of the Kingdom of God. They wanted a kingdomcomplete with its location dan political system. They were looking for thepower of the world. But Jesus is against this way of thinking. Today we shouldsay that the pharisaic attitude can be seen in those who look for miracles.They actually do not know that even from waking up in the morning until themoment to go to sleep at night is already a significant miracle. Today many peopletend to use the hyperbole style, a way of exaggeration. The quantity of peopleor things can be exaggerated according to one's own interest. The quality ofsomeone or something can also be given exaggeration. For instance someone washeard teling his friend in this way "I can read all your thoughts andfeelings before you express them yourself." People of today prefer moneyto be the first standard to engage work, service and cooperation. If withoutmoney, people don't want to work,  to sacrifice,to serve, even to associate and  to pray.We can mention many more things like this. All of them have onecommon characteristic, namely blindness and deafess both physically andmentally about the presence of God in our midst and within us. The God who ispresent now and here, actually speaks from each one's conscience. The Lord'ssilent presence is a wisdom that affects a person's life from within. Thatpresence is primarily in the form of His powerful words, cannot be held andseen, but as the spirit that comforts, encourages and strengthens us. The Lord Jesusreplaces His own presence with the Holy Spirit who is wise and holy, easy tomove, clear, immaculate, bright, sharp and generous, as said in the book ofWisdom of the today's first reading. In other words, that presence is actuallythe power of our God manifested in commandments, inspiration, values, wisdom,morality and virtues. All is united in the making up of a truly spiritual unityof the Kingdom of God. This Kingdom governs all with the power of God. We are taught byJesus His own prayer for the coming of the kingdom. This kingdom is useful andmeaningful to us only when it takes control all our lives in the world, that wemay not be let to be driven away by all other powers of the world. With regardsto our future, the Kingdom of God is the representation of eternal life that isachieved by everyone of us after our death. There will be the resurrection forall the righteous. We need to celebrate the presence of this Kingdom every day. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Yesus Kristus mengatakan ini kepada orang-orang Farisi. Meskitidak ada lagi kaum Farisi saat ini, tapi semangatnya masih ada. Seorang ibumengoreksi anak-anaknya dengan berkata begini: "Jangan seperti orangFarisi yang suka munafik". Intinya, hidup yang tidak tulus dan penuhkecurangan adalah semangat hidup Farisi. Jadi, anak-anak selalu mengingat bahwacara-cara farisi itu sebenarnya tidak baik. Salah satu contohnya ialah mereka meminta tanda datangnyaKerajaan Allah yang lahiriah, artinya ada sebuah wilayah dengan sistemkekuasaan yang maha besar. Yesus melawan cara berpikir seperti ini. Sekarangsikap-sikap farisi itu ada pada mereka yang suka minta terjadinya mujisat yangcepat, padahal hidup dari bangun pagi hingga tidur pada malam hari sudahsebagai mujizat.  Sekarang banyak orang suka bergaya hiperbola, yaitumengada-ada dan melebih-lebihkan. Jumlah banyaknya entah manusia atau barang,lalu kualitas mampu, sanggup atau unggul bisa ditambah-tambah seenaknya.Sekarang orang ingin supaya uang sebagai perhitungan pertama, jika tidak,mereka tidak ingin bekerja, berkorban, melayani dan bahkan bersosial danberdoa.  Daftar ini masih akan sangat panjang, dan semua itu punyasatu ciri yang sama, yaitu buta dan tuli baik fisik maupun mental akankehadiran Tuhan di tengah-tengah kita, dan di dalam diri kita. Tuhan yang hadirini sebenarnya berbicara dari nurani kita masing-masing. Ini adalahkebijaksanaan yang berwujud sangat halus sehingga mampu masuk ke pikiran danhati kita yang paling dalam. Kehadiran itu sebagai firman-Nya yang jelas takdapat dipegang dan dilihat, tetapi sebagai roh yang menghibur, menyemangati danmenguatkan diri kita.  Kehadiran itu ialah roh yang arif dan kudus, mudahbergerak, jernih, tidak bernoda, terang, tajam dan murah hati, demikian katakitab Kebijaksanaan pada hari ini. Singkatnya, kehadiran itu merupakanpenjelmaan Tuhan dalam perintah, inspirasi, nilai, kearifan, moralitas dankeutamaan. Semuanya menyatu untuk membentuk suatu wujud kerajaan Allah yangbenar-benar rohani dan keberadaannya dapat menembus segala batas fisik-lahiriahkehidupan ini.  Kita diajarkan oleh Yesus dalam doa-Nya untuk kedatangankerajaan itu. Adanya kerajaan itu untuk menguasai hidup kita di dunia sebab adabegitu banyak pengaruh kekuasaan duniawi yang berusaha menguasai kita. Untukmasa depan, kerajaan Allah merupakan kehidupan kekal yang akan dicapai olehkita masing-masing melalui kematian. Di situ ada kebangkitan bagi semuaorang-orang benar. Kita perlu merayakan kehadiran kerajaan Allah itu setiaphari. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Two best friends had to face the sad realityof breaking up their friendship. The reason is that one of them has borrowedthe other's money and promised to return it, in fact he did not. He borrowedmore than three times, and he never returned them. Through family ways ofapproach and reconciliation, finally all the debts were paid off. But becausethe relationship was already wounded by the conflict, they no longer acceptedeach other. Friendship became cold and dying. If after paying offthe debts, they could understand each other, accepted each other and sincerelyacknowledged each other, then their friendship would get a full recovery.Wounds that have occurred between the two can heal completely. But it was notso. The aspect of accepting and acknowledging each other after a solution orrecovery to an existing problem are fundamental. Jesus is actually teaching usthree dimensions of healing to achieve its fullness. The first dimensionis healing of wounds. The today's Gospel shows that leprosy is gone and eachone is clean. We experience a lotof wound healing in life, and that releases our burdens. Wounds or diseases ofthe body are successfully removed. We are forgiven by others, or the same as weforgive others, also included in this category of healing. The second dimensionis a social healing and unity among brothers, sisters and friends. Jesus made ahealing miracle that united two groups of people who were basically hostile toeach other, the Jews and the Samaritans. Jesus also asked them to reportthemselves to the priest, so that they could be re-accepted as members of thecommunity and society. This healing greatly strengthens one's self-esteem aspart of one's neighbor, environment, and culture. The third dimensionis the faith healing. Not many people are aware of this healing diemension,because they forget to give thanks, glorify God, and offer up their lives to beused by God. It aims to strengthen their faith and remain humble in relying theirlives on God. Because it can happen, after being healed from wounds and havinghappiness in the midst of brothers and friends, one may become arrogant andforget God. He might think it's not important to be grateful. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Sebabnya ialah salah satunya telah meminjam uang temannya dan berjanjiuntuk mengembalikan, ternyata tidak ia lakukan. Lebih dari tiga kali iameminjam, dan tidak pernah ia kembalikan. Melalui cara kekeluargaan, akhirnyasegala utang dilunasi. Namun karena hubungan itu sudah terlanjur luka olehkonflik, mereka tidak lagi saling menerima. Pertemanan itu menjadi dingin dankaku. Sekiranya setelah pelunasan utang tersebut, mereka dapatsaling mengerti, saling menerima dan tulus mengakui satu sama lain, makapertemanan mereka mendapatkan pemulihan yang utuh. Luka yang sudah terjadi diantara keduanya dapat sembuh total. Namun tidak demikian. Faktor tindakanmenerima dan mengakui satu sama lain setelah penyelesaian atau solusi terhadapmasalah yang ada, merupakan hal yang sangat mendasar. Yesus sebenarnya sedangmengajarkan kita tiga dimensi kesembuhan untuk mencapai kepenuhannya. Dimensi pertama ialah penyembuhan luka. Penyakit kustahilang dan masing-masingnya telah bersih. Dari contoh kisah dua sahabat tadi,pada waktu pelunasan utang dilaksanakan, di situ terjadilah kesembuhan atasluka-lukanya. Kita mengalami banyak kesembuhan luka di dalam hidup, dan hal itumelepaskan beban hidup kita. Luka atau penyakit pada tubuh berhasildihilangkan. Kita dimaafkan oleh orang lain, atau sebaliknya kita memaafkansesama, juga termasuk di dalam tahap penyembuhan kategori ini. Dimensi kedua ialah suatu tahap penyembuhan sosial danpersekutuan sebagai saudara atau sesama teman. Yesus membuat mujisatpenyembuhan yang menyatukan dua golongan orang yang pada dasarnya salingbermusuhan, Yahudi dan Samaria. Yesus juga meminta mereka supaya melaporkandirinya ke imam, supaya mereka dapat diterima kembali sebagai anggota komunitasdan masyarakat. Kesembuhan ini sangat memperkuat harga diri seseorang sebagaibagian dari sesama, lingkungan, dan kebudayaannya.  Dimensi ketiga ialah tahap penyembuhan iman. Tidak banyakorang sadar untuk melakukan tindakan penyembuhan ini, yaitu karena mereka lupauntuk bersyukur, memuliakan Tuhan, dan menyerahkan hidupnya untuk dipakai olehTuhan. Ini bertujuan supaya imam mereka kuat dan tetap rendah hati mengandalkanTuhan di dalam hidupnya. Sebab bisa saja terjadi, setelah orang menjadi sembuhlukanya dan senang secara sosial, ternyata ia menjadi sombong dan lupa akanTuhan. Ia sudah tidak menganggap penting berterima kasih. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... This sentenceis taken from the book of Wisdom which is the first reading of today's liturgy.An elementary school boy has a story that is appropriate to reflection of this versefrom the Scriptures . He is smart and always the number one bright in theclass. He behaves so well that wins the praise of his teachers. He is alwaysmade a model for his friends. However, he often becomes the target of bullies,ridicule and slander. He often cries and refuses to play with his friends. Theschool and his parents try hard to overcome this problem. The most common reactionmade when people face problems like that of the school boy is to complain andhand it over to God. Let God alone give His justice. This is done with certainjustification that goes like this: the righteous ones are in God's hands. Goddoes not forget the righteous people. Maybe you yourself often experience suchtreatment. Your life is good, doing the right thing, following procedure, andnever bothering others, but it turns out that you are blamed and slandered. Our principle offaith explains that the wickedness of the world tends to torment the righteous,it's simply a reality of life that we must go through. Who are the righteousones? It could be you, your brothers and sisters, or we as the flock the oneholy Church. To our endurance and perseverance with so much freedom andwillingness to follow Christ until now, it is no exaggeration and it's no wrongfor us to make a recognition to ourselves, to our brothers and sisters and ourfamilies: that we are indeed in the hands of God. There are many signsthat reveal one's true witness of faith. For example, people carry out workaccording to their duties and responsibilities, doing activities in proper timeand place, following procedures and rule of law, giving information based onfacts or evidences, taking responsibility to fulfill commitments, admitingmistakes and willingness to correct them, ready to take risks for improvement.And much more. Today the Lord Jesusgives us a lesson on how to live out the truth. We carry out our duties andresponsibilities to the best of our capacity and trust given, and withhumility. Don't assume that we are great or successful. Siapakah orang-orang benar itu? Bisa saja Anda, saudara-saudarimu,atau kita sebagai satu kawanan dalam penggembalaan Gereja kita yang kudus.Sudah sekian lama dan sekian besar kerelaan kita mengikuti Kristus sampai kini,tidak berlebihan dan tidak salah jika kita membuat pengakuan ini atas diri kitasendiri, saudara-saudari dan keluarga kita. Wisdom 1: 1-7; Rs psalm 139: 1-3.4-6.7-8.9-10; Luke 17: 1-6.DON'T BECOME ASCANDAL The theme of ourmeditation today is: Don't Become a Scandal. A parish priest shared that on oneoccasion he was involved in a misunderstanding with the staff and severalfamilies in the parish he served. The misunderstanding escalated into anuncontrolled argument, causing most of the faithful to become inflamed andangry. However, the parish priest did not appear to become emotional or angry.He remained calm and controlled. He kept his words as gentle as possible anddid not offend any body. He had to continue treating them as his people whoneeded to be listened to, understood, and loved. If the Priest alsogot emotional and angry, then treated his parishioners with violence, then ofcourse he would become a scandal for them and also the entire members of theParish. The word "scandal" in Greek is scandalon. Its meaning is atrap or stumbling block that causes others to be trapped and fall. Thescriptures explicitly warn us about scandals or tricks that keep people fromtheir Lord and bring them into sin. Psalm 141.9 says: Free me from the trapthey have put to trap me, and from the deception of the wicked. Similar tothis, the first letter of John says: Whoever loves his brother or sister livesin the light, in that person there is no stumbling block. Our big challenge asthe followers of Christ is: don't become a scandal. Jesus says in the Gospel oftoday that we must not cause one of the weakest among us to fall into sin.Those who are classified as the weakest among us are the little ones, sick, childrenand young people, poor, abandoned and those who are not taken into account.Their lives have been difficult physically, mentally and spiritually, so theyshould not be made more difficult in life. Those that cause them difficult andso deprived are those who have power, the smart ones, rich, those who havepositions and influences. If you feel yourself part of these categories, try toavoid being a scandal for the weakest ones. One good suggestionhere is this: we should not show bad or negative examples, which may bringothers to sin. Priests and religious persons can become scandalous because ofdirty talks they utter in front of the people. Parents become scandalousbecause of fighting between them and seen their own children. The teacher islazy in the midst of his students. The big brother steals something andwitnessed by his younger brother. And, there are many more examples that areoften done intentionally by those who are not supposed to do those acts. Let us learn to avoidscandalous acts by showing good and right examples. Let's pray. Ada seorang Pastor Paroki bercerita bahwa dalam suatu kesempatan diaterlibat salah paham dengan para pelayan pastoran dan beberapa keluarga diParoki yang ia layani. Salah paham itu berkembang menjadi sebuah pertengakaranyang tidak biasa terkontrol sehingga sebagian besar umat terbakar emosinya danmereka marah-marah. Namun Pastor Paroki tidak terlihat ikut emosi dan marah. Iatetap tenang dan dapat menguasai dirinya. Sedapat mungkin ia menjagakata-katanya yang tetap lembut dan tidak menyinggung perasaan mereka. Ia harustetap memperlakukan mereka sebagai umatnya yang perlu didengarkan, dimengertidan disayangi.     Kalau Pastor Paroki ikut terbakar emosi, marah danbertindak keras kepada umatnya, maka ia tentu saja menjadi skandal bagi merekadan semua umat di parokinya. Kata "skandal" dalam bahasa Yunani ialahscandalon. Artinya ialah perangkap atau batu sandungan yang menyebabkan oranglain terperangkap dan jatuh. Kitab suci dengan tegas memperingatkan kitatentang skandal atau tipu daya yang menjauhkan umat dari Tuhannya danmenjatuhkan mereka ke dalam dosa. Mazmur 141,9 berkata: Bebaskan aku dariperangkap yang telah mereka taruh untuk memerangkap aku, dan dari tipu dayaorang jahat. Mirip dengan ini, Surat Yohanes yang pertama berkata: Barang siapamengasihi saudara atau saudarinya hidup di dalam terang, pada orang tersebuttak ada batu sandungan. Tantangan besar kita pengikut Kristus ialah: janganmenjadi skandal. Yesus berkata dalam Injil bahwa kita tidak boleh menyebabkansalah seorang dari kaum lemah di antara kita jatuh ke dalam dosa. Mereka yangtergolong lemah ialah orang sederhana, sakit, anak-anak dan orang muda, miskin,tidak punya pengaruh atau yang tak diperhitungkan. Hidup mereka sudah susahbaik fisik, mental dan rohani, maka tak boleh dibuat tambah susah. Pihak yangmembuat mereka susah dan berbuat skandal ialah yang punya kuasa, pintar,pandai, punya jabatan atau kedudukan, berpunya dan punya pengaruh. Jika Andamerasa menjadi bagian dari kategori ini, usahakan untuk hindari skandal itu. Satu usulan baik di sini ialah: kiranya kita tidak menjaditeladan yang buruk atau jahat, yang membawa orang lain jatuh dalam dosa. Imamatau biarawan buat skandal karena misalnya omong kotor di hadapan umat. Orangtua menjadi skandal karena berkelahi dan dilihat sendiri anak-anaknya. Gurubergaya malas di tengah murid-muridnya. Kakak mencuri sambil dilihat langsungadik-adiknya. Dan, masih banyak lagi contoh yang sering dilakukan dengansengaja. Marilah kita belajar menghindari tindakan-tindakan skandaldengan memberikan teladan yang baik dan benar. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa maha kuasa,semoga kami membuka diri secara tulus akan Roh-Mu, supaya kami dibaharui selaludan seterusnya kami ikut membaharui dunia ini dari segala bentuk skandal. Today, the whole Church celebrates thefeast of the dedication of the Lateran Basilica of Rome. This basilica is oneof the four largest churches in Rome, Italy. Until now the basilica was thecathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. Just like otherimportant basilicas, the Lateran basilica looks so majestic and alwayswell-maintained and organized. One aspect of carethat is so particular should be on cleanliness. Even though this is an oldbuilding, cleanliness is so well observed. The visitors who always come everyday will feel comfortable and can enjoy the values ​​of Christian sacredness init. Actually not only aspects of cleanliness, but also orderliness, politenessand calmness. Visitors who are not modestly dressed will be put on a scarf, thenoisy will be reprimanded, those who use cell phones will be asked to turn off,and those who bring food will be asked to leave food outside the basilica. Our churches that aredirty can be seen from various aspects of perspective. Dirts like paper,plastic, dust, etc. can be found there, outside and inside. Jesus sees all kinds of dirt there, inside andoutside the temple. He is burned by the demand to clean the house of worshipfrom all kinds of dirts, to be removed away, and He does His way with anger andpunishment. We, as His followers, are certainly burnt by the same demands whenwe know that our houses of worship are full with dirts as ellaborated above. Jesus also teaches usthat the house of worship is actually He himself. Likewise theologically, wewant to interpret the house of worship as ourselves, as today's second readingstates. Faced with all forms of desacralization whether by words or deeds, causingour bodies not worthy for God, for others or community and ourselves, we mustbe firm and burnt by the the demand to overcome those negative threats. Let's pray. Pada hari ini, seluruh Gereja memperingati pemberkatan GerejaBasilik Lateran Roma. Basilika ini termasuk satu dari empat gereja terbesar dikota Roma, Italia. Sampai saat ini basilika itu merupakan katedralnya UskupRoma, yaitu Paus Leo ke-14. Sama seperti basilika-basilika penting lainnya,basilik Lateran tampak begitu megah dan selalu terawat dengan baik dan teratur. Salah satu aspek perawatan yang sangat diperhatikan ialahkebersihan. Meskipun ini adalah bangunan tua, kebersihannya tetap terjaga. Parapengunjung yang selalu berdatangan tiap hari akan merasa nyaman dan dapatmenikmati nilai-nilai kesakralan kristiani di dalamnya. Sebenarnya tidak hanyaaspek kebersihan, tetapi juga ketertiban, kesopanan dan ketenangan. Turis yangtidak sopan berpakaian akan dipakaikan syal, yang ribut akan ditegur, yangmemakai ponsel akan diminta untuk dimatikan, dan yang membawa makanan akandiminta untuk meninggalkan makanan di luar basilika. Rumah ibadat kita dipandang kotor dari berbagai aspekpenilaian. Kotoran itu seperti kertas, plastik, debu dan lain sebagainya bisasaja ditemukan di sana. Penampilan pakaian dan pemakaian instrumen pendukungyang tidak pas dalam ibadah sering terjadi. Tingkah laku seperti bercerita,dering seluler, bercanda, bertengkar dan tindak kekerasan terjadi juga.Kemudian hati, pikiran dan jiwa para partisipan ibadat yang dianggap kotorkarena dosa-dosa yang belum diampuni, merupakan jenis kotoran spiritual yangtidak asing bagi orang-orang beriman. Rumah Tuhan tentu tidak dapat dikatakan indah, nyaman danbermartabat suci kalau semua jenis kotoran ini selalu tertampung di sana. Yesusmelihat semua kotoran itu ada di sana, dalam dan luar bait suci. Ia terbakaroleh tuntutan untuk mensterilkan rumah ibadah dari segala macam kotoran untukdisingkirkan sehingga keluarlah amarah-Nya. Kita sebagai pengikut-Nya jugatentu ikut terbakar oleh tuntutan yang sama ketika tahu kalau rumah-rumahibadah kita penuh dengan kotoran seperti yang disebutkan itu. Yesus bermaksud juga mengartikan rumah ibadah itu sebagaidiri-Nya sendiri. Demikian juga secara teologis, kita ingin mengartikan rumahibadah itu adalah diri kita sendiri seperti dikatakan dalam bacaan kedua hariini. Berhadapan dengan segala bentuk desakralisasi entah dengan kata-kata entahdengan perbuatan, sehingga tubuh kita menjadi tidak layak bagi Tuhan, bagisesama atau komunitas dan bagi diri sendiri, kita mesti bersikap tegas danterbakar tuntutan untuk menyingkirkan tendensi atau ancaman-ancaman itu. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan,tambahkanlah semangat iman kami sehingga kami dapat menjaga dengan tanggungjawab kemurnian diri kami sendiri sebagai bait suci, tempat Engkau berdiam.Salam Maria, penuh rahmat ... Romans 16: 3-9.16.22-27; Rs psalm 145: 2-3.4-5.10-11; Luke 16: 9-15.IT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE TO SERVE TWO MASTERS Our meditation today is entitled: It is notpermissible to serve two masters. There is a simple employee named Luke whoworks honestly every day even though his salary is not big. He refuses toaccept small bribes that could increase his income, because he wants to live inGod's providence. At first he was seen as stupid by his colleagues, but after afew years, his honesty earned him trust to lead a major project. Luke not onlyreceived a promotion, but was also respected for his integrity. Faithfulness insmall things brings great blessings, like God's own promises. Jesus says in the Gospel of Luke that no one can servetwo masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will beloyal to the one and ignore the other. "You cannot serve God andMammon" (Lk 16:13).  This expression rebukes people who often want to holdtwo things at once: serve God, but still maintain attachment to wealth,comfort, or ego. Jesus reminds that the direction of the human heart can onlylead to one center of love. If God is the center, then all life will bedirected to glorify Him. But if Mammon — the symbol of greed and worldly power— takes center stage, then life loses its spiritual light and meaning. Serving God means making His will the basis of everychoice, even in seemingly minor matters. Jesus affirms, "Whoever isfaithful in small things is faithful also in great." True loyalty does notwait for a great opportunity, but is proven through sincerity in simplematters: honesty in work, patience in the face of difficult people, andgenerosity towards others. God doesn't see how much work we produce, but ratherhow much love moves that action. Saint Paul also gave an example of this. In hisletters, he often expressed his gratitude to those who faithfully served himduring his Gospel preaching journey. They not only helped materially, but alsoprovided faithfulness, prayer, and support when Paul was suffering. Theirfaithfulness shows that service is not just a task, but a form of love that isconstantly given, even when no one is watching.  True faithfulness and dedication require a cleardecision: choosing God as the only source of life. The world may offer a lot ofinteresting things—power, money, and popularity—but all of that passes quickly.On the contrary, faithfulness to God produces inner peace and joy that cannotbe bought. A person who serves the Lord lives in the belief that every blessingand trial is part of His plan of love. Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, strengthenour faith so that we can keep Your will first and be able to abandon allinterests that can distance us from You. Glory to the Father and to the Son andto the Holy Spirit ... Roma 16: 3-9.16.22-27; Mazmur tg 145: 2-3.4-5.10-11; Lukas 16: 9-15.TIDAK BOLEH MENGABDI DUA TUAN Renungan kita pada hari inibertema: Tidak Boleh Mengabdi Dua Tuan. Ada seorang pegawai sederhana bernama Lukas yang setiaphari bekerja dengan jujur meski gajinya tidak besar. Ia menolak menerima suapkecil   yang bisa menambahpenghasilannya, karena ia ingin hidup berkenan kepada Tuhan. Awalnya iadipandang bodoh oleh rekan-rekannya, tetapi setelah beberapa tahun,kejujurannya membuatnya dipercaya untuk memimpin proyek besar. Lukas tidakhanya menerima promosi, tetapi juga dihormati karena integritasnya. Kesetiaandalam hal kecil membawa berkat yang besar, seperti janji Tuhan sendiri. Yesus berkata dalam Injil Lukas bahwa tidak seorang pundapat mengabdi kepada dua tuan, sebab ia akan membenci yang satu dan mengasihiyang lain, atau ia akan setia kepada yang satu dan tidak mengindahkan yanglain. “Kamu tidak dapat mengabdi kepada Allah dan kepada Mamon” (Luk 16:13).  Sabda ini menegur manusia yang sering ingin memegangdua hal sekaligus: mengabdi kepada Tuhan, namun tetap mempertahankanketerikatan pada harta, kenyamanan, atau ego. Yesus mengingatkan bahwa arahhati manusia hanya bisa menuju satu pusat kasih. Bila Allah menjadi pusatnya,maka seluruh hidup akan diarahkan untuk memuliakan-Nya. Tetapi bila Mamon —simbol dari keserakahan dan kuasa duniawi — menjadi pusatnya, maka hidup ituakan kehilangan terang dan makna rohani. Mengabdi kepada Allah berarti menjadikan kehendak-Nyasebagai dasar setiap pilihan, bahkan dalam hal-hal yang tampak kecil. Yesusmenegaskan, “Barangsiapa setia dalam perkara-perkara kecil, ia setia juga dalamperkara-perkara besar.” Kesetiaan yang sejati tidak menunggu kesempatan besar,tetapi dibuktikan melalui ketulusan dalam hal sederhana: kejujuran dalampekerjaan, kesabaran menghadapi orang sulit, dan kemurahan hati terhadapsesama. Tuhan tidak melihat seberapa besar karya yang kita hasilkan, melainkanseberapa besar kasih yang menggerakkan tindakan itu. Santo Paulus pun mencontohkan hal ini. Dalamsurat-suratnya, ia sering menyampaikan rasa syukur kepada orang-orang yangsetia melayaninya selama perjalanan pewartaan Injil. Mereka bukan hanyamembantu secara materi, tetapi juga memberikan kesetiaan, doa, dan dukungan disaat Paulus mengalami penderitaan. Kesetiaan mereka menunjukkan bahwa pelayananbukan sekadar tugas, melainkan bentuk kasih yang terus-menerus diberikan,bahkan ketika tidak dilihat orang.  Kesetiaan dan pengabdian sejati membutuhkan keputusanyang jelas: memilih Tuhan sebagai satu-satunya sumber hidup. Dunia mungkinmenawarkan banyak hal menarik — kekuasaan, uang, dan popularitas — namun semuaitu cepat berlalu. Sebaliknya, kesetiaan kepada Tuhan menghasilkan kedamaianbatin dan sukacita yang tak bisa dibeli. Orang yang mengabdi kepada Tuhan hidupdalam kepercayaan bahwa setiap berkat dan ujian adalah bagian dari rencanakasih-Nya. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Tuhan, kuatkanlahiman kami agar kami tetap mengutamakan kehendak-Mu dan dapat meninggalkan semuakepentingan yang dapat menjauhkan kami dari-Mu. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putradan Roh Kudus ... Romans 15: 14-21; Rs psalm 98: 1.2-3ab.3cd-4; Luke 16: 1-8.INITIATIVE OFBELIEVERS The title for ourmeditation today is: Initiative of Believers. In a village settlement, the roadto the primary school is always flooded for several days even though the rain alreadystopped. As a consequence, people always take off their sandals or shoes, thenroll up their trousers so they don't get wet and dirty. The teachers who passby there, always took off their shoes and rolled up their trousers. Studentsalso do the same. But there occurs something special. Rio, a grade 4elementary school boy, collected several stones he found around the place. Heput a stone along the puddle. As a result, anyone who passes there after Rio,can stand and walk on these stones, without having to take off the shoes androll up the trousers. Rio made an initiative that nobody else thought of. The word"initiative" comes from the Latin "itiare" or"initium" means starting or beginning. For a job or work, theinitiative means to take or make the first step and make a breakthrough. In theGospel passage we have just heard, the Lord Jesus explains that the rich masterpraises his clever employee, even though he is dishonest because he manipulatesthe data of his master's debts. This"clever" attitude is interpreted as the ability to forsee the future.The employee represents many of us who often worried about tomorrow. There arepeople who save a lot in the bank. The other invest many in the form ofproperties. Still others want to guarantee their future by sending theirchildren and grandchildren to the best schools and universities. These are allforms of initiative. People can do some initiatives through dishonest ways likethat employee of the rich master, or vice versa in true and honest ways. Wewill be pleased by God for being able to count for our future, for a better andjoyful life. For the spirituallife, we need spiritual initiatives. Saint Paul describes his future as brightas Jesus Christ, so that he could serve other nations, especially the Romans asexpected. They were promised a glorious spiritual dwelling in the future as childrenof light, to enjoy happiness in the Kingdom of God. Initiative in faith teachesus to take the first step to enlighten those who are confused, anxious,hopeless and lost in their faith journey; being a peacemaker in the midst ofhatred and anger; become the creator of justice rather than the ghost ofinjustice; become a bearer of truth rather than spreading lies and deception.And much more. This is the future that God wants.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus Christ, enlighten us always in the path of our lives day byday, that we may walk without barriers toward you.
