Ezekiel 12: 1-12; Rs psalm 78: 56-59.61-62; Matthew 18: 21 - 19: 1.A BIG HEART THAT FORGIVES Our meditation today has the theme: A Big Heart thatForgives. There was a boy, the fifth grade primary student, who told hisparents one morning that better he would stop going to school. He was sayingthis while weeping and terrified. After searching for the reason, they learnedthat this child was afraid of being teased, humiliated and bullied once againby his friends at school. He had tried to be patient with them, played withthem, even shared snacks with them, but he was still victimized by them. He justwanted to quit the school. The parents were sad of their son's situation andtried to solve the problem with the school. This boy's sad experience should not be considered asa human error or simply something by chance, but this proved that there was avery bad social pattern existed in that school that must be removed. Perhapsyou yourself have ever been the victim of such pattern of evil behavior in yourown context. In facing such difficulty, there are some people who can solvethem on their own, but others cannot, so they need help from others to overcomeit. On the how to solve this, it can be through reactive or repressive ways,which means to fight with violence, but it can also through persuasive orfriendly ways. One of the Christian teachings that is always close tothe hearts of followers of Christ when they experience such trouble, is to havea big heart, namely to be a forgiving person and always willing to forgive inwhatever situation. The prophet Ezekiel in the first reading describes an actof forgiveness, which is to reject violence by being passive or silent. Heteaches us an attitude of making ourselves the powerless victims in the face ofthose who are against us. This is to remind them that they also will have theirown time and experience of trouble which they deserve. This way of forgivenessis the same as to say this expression: "The Lord forgives them becausethey don't know what they are doing". The Lord Jesus teaches us on how a big heart forgives,that is, through explicit statements and actions that we can give. The evilones or our enemies need to see and experience how through our words andactions we really forgive them. Such forgiveness should not be measured up tothe number of time or in quantity, and also in quality such as beyond one'spatience, fatigue, boredom, and hurt. Jesus recognized this human tendency ofputting the limits, however, He teaches His disciples and all of us to do theotherwise. Therefore, He emphasized that a big great that forgives is the onethat does not take into account the limits of both the quantity and quality. Hesays this in His famous expression, that we should be able to forgive 70 times7 times. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, give us kind and big hearts so thatwe can forgive without limit. If we are not strong enough to forgive, give usYour Spirit and we will be strengthened. Ada seorangmurid kelas 5 SD pada suatu pagi berkata kepada orang tuanya bahwa ia tidak maulagi masuk sekolah. Ia berkata demikian sambil menangis dan ketakutan. Setelahmenyelidikinya, mereka menjadi tahu bahwa anak ini takut diejek, dihina ataudibully lagi oleh teman-temannya di sekolah. Ia sudah berusaha sabar terhadapmereka, bermain dengan mereka, bahkan berbagi jajan dengan mereka, tetapi tetapsaja ia disakiti. Ia ingin saja berhenti sekolah. Orang tuanya ikut bersedihdan berusaha untuk menyelesaikan masalah itu dengan pihak sekolah. Pengalaman pahit murid itu jangan dianggap sekedar human error ataukekeliruan manusiawi, tetapi sebuah pola pergaulan jelek di sekolah yang harusdiperbaiki. Mungkin Anda sendiri pernah menjadi korban suatu pola perbuatanjahat seperti yang dialami murid tersebut. Dalam menghadapi kesulitan sepertiitu, ada orang yang mampu menyelesaikannya dengan kemampuannya sendiri, tetapiyang lain tidak mampu, sehingga mereka membutuhkan bantuan orang lain untukmengatasinya dengan segera. Cara penyelesaiannya dapat berupa pendekatanreaktif dan represif, yang berarti bahwa harus dilawan juga dengan kekerasan,tetapi dapat juga berupa pendekatan persuasif dan kekeluargaan. Satu ajaran Kristiani yang selalu dekat di hati para pengikut Kristusketika mengalami peristiwa hidup seperti ini, ialah memiliki jiwa besar sebagaiseorang pengampun dan rela untuk mengampuni. Nabi Yehezkiel di dalam bacaanpertama menggambarkan suatu tindakan memberikan ampun melalui sebuah sikapmenolak kekerasan tetapi juga bukan suatu sikap pasif atau diam. Ia mengajarkansebuah sikap mengalah dan menjadikan diri sebagai korban dari perbuatan orang-orangjahat. Ini untuk mengingatkan bahwa mereka juga pada saatnya akan mengalamikesusahan yang setimpal dengan perbuatannya itu. Cara mengampuni seperti inisama dengan mengatakan: Tuhan ampunilah mereka karena mereka tidak tahu apayang mereka perbuat. Tuhan Yesus mengajarkan ungkapan jiwa yang besar dalam mengampuni, yaitudengan pernyataan dan tindakan yang sangat eksplisit. Pihak yang berlaku jahatperlu melihat dan mengalami kalau kata-kata dan tindakan Anda sungguhmengampuni. Pengampunan seperti ini tidak boleh diukur sampai berapa kali yaitusecara kuantitas, dan juga secara kualitas seperti batas kesabaran, kelelahan,kebosanan, dan menyerah. Yesus menangkap kecenderungan pembatasan ini ada padapara murid-Nya dan kita semua. Oleh karena itu Ia menegaskan bahwa suatu jiwayang besar dalam memberikan pengampunan ialah yang tidak memperhitungkanbatasan baik jumlah maupun kualitasnya. Hal ini disebutkan-Nya sebagaipengampunan 70 kali 7 kali. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan, lembutkan hati kami supaya kami dapat mengampunitanpa batas. Apabila kami tidak kuat lagi mengampuni, berilah kami Roh-Mu yangmembuat kami mampu. Kemuliaan kepada Bapa dan Putra dan Roh Kudus ... Dalamnama Bapa ...

Ezekiel 9: 1-7; 10: 18-22; Rs psalm 113: 1-2.3-4.5-6; Matthew 18: 15-20.GATHERING IN THE NAME OF THE LORD Our meditation today has the theme: Gathering in theName of the Lord. There was a group of teenagers about to enter a shop thatsells electronics and cell phones. They were so obsessed to have the newestproduct of cell phone that was being promoted everywhere. However, these poorteenagers had no money to buy what they were so eager to have, so they plannedto steal the cell phones in that shop. They planned in such way that nobodyaround would notice their action. But before doing that, the group leader invited all togather. He wished them to pray before stealing the cell phones they wanted. Andwhen they were about to pray, one of theirs friends raised an objection, as he wassaying in this way: "This is absurd. How can we pray then we go to steal?God definitely will not allow us." In the end they all did not steal andeach of them dispersed. When people gather to pray, they have good motivationto achieve a good objective too. What the today's Gospel says is true, that Godis present when people, few or many, gather in His power and His name. If thereis a gathering of people with motivation to create chaos, commotion andviolence, that will be so displeasing God. Every gathering in the name of the Lord has someconstituted elements that are familiar to us. The first element is when we usethe name of the Lord to be the easiest way for us to feel close with Him. Ashort prayer, a praise of His holy name, or a hymn of praise are among theexamples of how we come together with our fellow brothers and sisters to praisethe Lord. God is present in our midst through various occasions like these andHe is never present in our gathering to evil or sinful act. Another important element of gathering in the name ofthe Lord which is ecclesial in nature, is what we usually do in formal way  to worship God under the guidance of theChurch. There are liturgical celebrations, ministries of the sacraments anddevotional prayers. God indeed touches us through the observance of theseworships and the reception of sacraments. He truly blesses those who partake inthem and receive the outpouring of graces. The ordained ministers in the personof deacon, priest and bishop who become the sign of the authority of the Churchthat serves, are those who represent Jesus Christ himself. Their task is tobridge communication between God and people in their acts of worship. And the element of love is a concrete expression ofhow God acts through the works of charity. A meeting to plan a program ofcharity for the poor families, this is a gathering in the name of God. Agathering to discuss on the renewal of interpersonal relationship and fraternalcorrection, this is also an act made in the name of the Lord. In essence, Godis present in the gathering of believers and He animates them. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, stay with us alwaysevery day, especially in our gatherings of worship and reception of sacraments,where You alone involves to share us the divine graces. Adasekelompok remaja sedang memasuki sebuah toko yang berjual barang-barangelektronik dan ponsel. Mereka ingin sekali memiliki ponsel terbaru, tetapikarena tidak ada uang untuk membeli, mereka nekat untuk mencuri. Merekamengatur sedemikian supaya aksinya lancar dan tidak membuat keributan. Tetapi sebelum melakukan aksi mencuri, ketua kelompok mengajak semua untukberkumpul. Ia ingin supaya mereka berdoa dahulu sebelum mencuri ponsel-ponselyang diinginkan mereka. Namun ketika mereka akan segera berdoa, salah seorangdari mereka berkata: "Ini tidak masuk di akal. Mana mungkin kita berdoauntuk mencuri, Tuhan pasti tidak mengizinkan kita." Akhirnya mereka semuatidak jadi mencuri dan masing-masing bubar.   Berkumpulnya orang-orang untuk berdoa selalu dilandasi motivasi yang baikdan untuk mencapai tujuan yang baik pula. Apa yang dikatakan oleh Injil tadisungguh benar, bahwa Tuhan hadir di dalam pertemuan orang-orang atas kuasa dannama-Nya. Jika ada pertemuan yang motivasinya ialah kekacauan, keributan dankekerasan, maka pertemuan itu sangat jelas tidak berkenan kepada Tuhan. Berkumpul dalam nama Tuhan memiliki beberapa unsur dasar yang selalu kitalakukan. Unsur penyebutan nama Tuhan merupakan yang paling kentara dan gampang.Doa yang singkat, seruan nama-Nya yang kudus, sebuah nyanyian pujian adalahcontoh-contoh kita berkumpul dalam nama Tuhan. Tuhan hadir bersama kita dalamkesempatan seperti ini bukan untuk kejahatan dan dosa.  Unsur berkumpul sebagai komunitas gerejani merupakan kegiatan yang lebihformal dan berwibawa. Di sini ada perayaan-perayaan liturgis, sakramental danberbagai doa devosional. Tuhan menyentuh kita melalui sakramen-sakramen dan Iamemberkati kita yang menerimanya. Unsur yang menjadi tanda formal dan berwibawakegiatan ini ialah imam yang menjadi representasi Kristus sendiri. Tugas imamialah menjembatani  umat Allah denganTuhan. Unsur kasih merupakan suatu ungkapan nyata bagaimana Tuhan berbuat danterlibat dalam karya cinta kasih yang dilakukan orang-orang beriman. Rapatuntuk merencanakan sebuah program pemberdayaan keluarga-keluarga miskin, inimerupakan contoh bertemu dalam nama Tuhan. Pertemuan untuk membahas danmembaharui hubungan antar pribadi, termasuk dengan koreksi persaudaraan, itujuga bagian dari berkumpul dalam nama Tuhan. Intinya, Tuhan hadir di dalampertemuan orang-orang beriman dan Ia yang menjiwai mereka. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus Kristus, mampukanlah kami selalu di dalamkehidupan bersama kami tiap hari, khususnya ketika kami menjalankan kehendak-Musecara bersama-sama, di mana Engkau sendiri hadir dan terlibat dalam kegiatan-kegiatankami. Ezekiel 2: 8 - 3: 4; Rs psalm 119: 14.24.72.103.111.131; Matthew 18: 1-5.10.12-14.PROUD CHILDREN  Our meditation today has the theme: Proud Children.There was a reunion of elementary school alumni. All the attendees consisted offarmers, laborers, government employees, teachers, clergy, and even the mayorof the local regency. Among all these, there was one very special guest, namelyan 88 year old man, who was the first principal of the elementary school. Allalumni have fond memories of the beloved teacher and principal. All alumni still remember how their former teacher andschool principal always treated each student as his own child. In essence, theteacher always considered each student a proud child. Every child had thepotential and talents that should be developed further. He always used apersuasive approach in the direction and correction of the students' behavior,particularly those who were naughty or indiscipline. Every time he finishedgiving advice or correction, he always said something like this expression: "Youare a child to be proud of." Every child in our family, Church and society has theright for positive and healthy treatment. With this treatment, they will growin a positive and healthy manner, and therefore, reducing or eliminating theirbad behaviors such as indiscipline in following the norms and many kinds of badmanners. That former teacher and the school principal had actually practicedJesus' own treatment to the children, which was to accept and to bless them.Jesus placed small children in our midst in order to teach us aboutappreciation and care for the life which is the most important gift of God tous. Obedience, enthusiasm for learning and following thediscipline in life are among the basic attitudes that we should have and we donot let the stubbornness of human heart or chaos to disturb our life. Humilityand perseverance to God are parts of our strength to fight pride, dominatingpower and violence in our society. The Kingdom of Heaven is reserved for peoplewho live in the spirit like the children who actually enjoy this life. We needto learn that the process of becoming something or someone must start fromsmall and weak. God uses our natural processes to establish His kingdom in theworld. Our faith grows from the beginning to become a mature faith. We can have certain idea or thought, which areconstructed from the collection of different little facts and experiences. Ahouse or building is made from the elements of cement, sand, stones and tiles.A professor has gone through the experience of learning and practice fromchildhood and all of his years of study. So being small, from beginning andyoung, should make us always proud of. We should be grateful that all of thesehave always been continuing to shape us to become what we are at every momentof our lives. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Adasebuah reuni para alumni SD. Semua hadirin terdiri dari para petani, buruh,pegawai pemerintah, guru, rohaniwan, bahkan bupati untuk kabupaten setempat. Diantara semua ini, ada satu tamu yang sangat spesial, yaitu seorang lelaki tuaberusia 88 tahun, ia adalah kepala sekolah pertama sekolah dasar tersebut.Semua alumni memiliki kenangan indah tentang sang kepala sekolah.                                                        Semua alumni masih tetap mengingat bagaimana mantan guru mereka tersebutselalu memperlakukan setiap murid sebagai anaknya sendiri. Intinya, gurutersebut selalu menganggap setiap muridnya sebagai anak yang membanggakan.Setiap anak memiliki potensi dan bakat yang patut dikembangkan selanjutnya. Iaselalu memakai pendekatan persuasif untuk mengarahkan dan memperbaiki perilakumereka yang nakal atau kurang baik. Setiap selesai memberikan nasihat ataukoreksinya, ia selalu berkata begini: "Kamu anak yang membanggakan."   Setiap anak di dalam keluarga, Gereja dan masyarakat kita sangat memerlukanperlakuan yang positif dan sehat. Dengan perlakuan ini, mereka akan tumbuhsecara positif dan sehat, sehingga mengurangi atau mematikan perilaku merekayang tidak disiplin atau di luar batas kewajaran. Mantan guru dan kepalasekolah tersebut sebenarnya mempraktikkan perbuatan Yesus sendiri yang menerimaanak-anak dan memberkati mereka. Yesus menempatkan anak kecil di tengah-tengahkita agar mengajarkan kita tentang menghargai dan memelihara kehidupan yangmenjadi karunia terindah Tuhan bagi kita. Sikap-sikap yang patuh, semangat belajar dan mengikuti disiplin hidupmerupakan sikap hidup yang melawan keras kepala dan hidup yang kacau.Kerendahan hati dan taat kepada Tuhan adalah semangat yang mengalahkankecongkakan, ingat diri, dan kekerasan. Kerajaan Surga disediakan bagiorang-orang yang hidup dalam semangat anak kecil seperti ini. Kita perlubelajar bahwa proses terjadinya sesuatu memang harus berawal dari yang kecildan lemah. Tuhan Allah memakai proses natural kita untuk mendirikan kerajaan-Nyadi dalam dunia. Iman kita tumbuh dari awal untuk menjadi dewasa. Kita dapat memiliki ide dan pemikiran tertentu, yang terbentuk darikumpulan fakta dan pengalaman kecil yang berbeda-beda. Sebuah bangunan rumahterbentuk dari elemen semen, pasir, batu dan genteng. Seorang profesor telahmelalui pengalaman belajar dan latihan dari kecil dan semua masa belajarnya.Jadi yang kecil, permulaan dan muda harus membuat kita bangga. Hendaknya kitasyukuri bahwa semua itu sudah dan seterusnya ikut membentuk diri kita sepertiapa adanya kita pada setiap waktu hidup kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Today the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Lawrence, whowas a deacon from Rome. He was killed by the Emperor Valerian in the 3rdcentury. In a particular moment, Lawrence was temporarily imprisoned andawaiting execution. He was considered the person who kept all the treasures ofthe Church, which were left by Pope Sixtus II, who had been killed four daysearlier. On the day of his execution Lawrence was ordered to bring along withhim and to submit all those riches being kept . Then he went to the place ofexecution followed by many people who were sick, lame, poor, abandoned whom hehad served every day. They were all the possessions of the Church beingdemanded by the Emperor. Saint Lawrence's life was a perfect example of givingwith joy. This means that he had given all of his life for the little and sickones, and this means that he was indeed carrying out the will of God. He wasfull with joy in doing the works that he Lord himself already did. At the timeof execution, he presented his favorite world which was a life united withthose who were absolutely powerless. So he was willing and happy to accept hisdeath sentence because after his death a spirit of giving with joyful heartwill grow in the life of those who have experienced God's love. When we give with joy, it is good that we focus on thepersons who need and who receive what we give. Our focus is not on things andgoods according to their quantity or price. If you focus your attention onpeople, you will automatically pay attention to the things they need. The focuson persons is much broader and deeper because we also include other aspectssuch as values, teachings, closeness, relations, psychology, culture and so on.It often happens that when these non-material aspects are properly attended,the material things are no longer our priority. When we give our first attention to the human person,both individual and group, the fruit of this will be our spiritualsatisfaction. The one who gives will be happy and at peace because he offersgoodness to others. This certainly gives him a positive help for growth. Theone who receives attention and goodness is also happy because he is helped tobe able to face the difficulty of life. This is really a noble and wonderfulexperience where people enrich themselves with gratefulness and mutual appreciation.God guides and blesses such expression of love and we are happy to livetogether in this way. God's love has no limits, and His most precious gift ofhappiness to us is the gift of eternal life in heaven where all of us will beunited in God.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Hari ini Gereja merayakan pesta Santo Laurensius, seorangdiakon di Roma. Ia dibunuh oleh Emperor Valerianus pada abad ke-3. Laurensiusdipenjarakan sementara dan menunggu waktu eksekusi. Ia dianggap menyimpan semuaharta kekayaan Gereja peninggalan Paus Sikstus II yang sudah lebih dahulu dibunuh empat hari sebelumnya. Pada harieksekusi Laurensius diperintahkan membawa serta semua harta kekayaan untukdiserahkan. Ia menuju tempat eksekusi diikuti oleh banyak orang sakit, lumpuh,miskin, terlantar yang setiap hari ia layani. Mereka semua adalah hartakekayaan yang ia miliki selama hidupnya. Santo Laurensius sungguh memberikan dengan sukacita. Artinya ia telahmemberikan semua dalam hidupnya untuk melayani orang kecil dan sakit, dan iniberarti ia menjalankan kehendak Tuhan. Ia bersukacita menjalankan pekerjaanyang dilakukan Tuhan sendiri. Saat eksekusi, ia hadirkan kesukaannya di duniayaitu hidup bersama orang-orang kecil dan sakit. Jadi ia rela dan senangmenerima hukuman mati atas dirinya karena setelah kematiannya itu akan tumbuhsubur sebuah semangat untuk memberi dengan sukacita di antara orang-orang yangtelah mengalami kasih Tuhan. Memberi dengan sukacita selalu menaruh fokusnya pada manusia yangmembutuhkan dan yang menerimanya. Fokus bukan pada benda dan materi menurutjumlah atau harganya. Kalau fokus perhatian kepada orang, otomatisbarang-barang kebutuhannya juga ikut diperhatikan. Fokus kepada manusia jauhlebih luas dan mendalam karena perhitungannya juga mencakup aspek-aspek nonmateri seperti nasihat, kedekatan, relasi, psikologis, kebudayaan dan lainsebagainya. Sering terjadi kalau bagian-bagian non materi ini dapat diberikandengan baik, yang material justru tak diperlukan lagi. Jika perhatian dan pemberian itu mengutamakan pribadi manusia entah pribadiatau kelompok, buahnya selalu berupa kepuasan rohani. Orang yang memberimenjadi gembira dan damai karena mempersembahkan kebaikan bagi sesamanya. Iatelah memilih untuk bertumbuh secara positif dan sehat. Orang yang menerimapemberian juga bersukacita karena telah dibantu untuk dapat keluar darikesulitan hidup. Ia diliputi suasana hati dan pikiran yang bersyukur danbangga. Tuhan membimbing dan memberkati sehingga ungkapan kasih melalui salingmemberikan perhatian ini dapat diwujudkan. Kasih Tuhan itu tidak ada batasnya,hingga berkat-Nya yang paling tinggi bagi orang yang percaya dan setia ialahtersedianya kehidupan abadi yang bahagia bagi mereka dalam surga.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... There were twochildren—siblings—playing by the seashore while the waves were high andcrashing loudly against the sand. Their mother sat under the tree watching them. The mother advised themnot to go into the sea to play with the waves, because it would endanger them.They just played on the shore with the waves crashing against the sand. They hadto take care of each other while playing and running. According to Jewish tradition and belief, especiallyduring the time of  Jesus, the waves ofthe sea, the strong currents, and the wind on the surface of the sea were signsthat Satan and evil spirits were threatening to attack whoever was aroundthere. This threat was experienced by the apostle Peter when he wanted to meetJesus by walking on the water which was being controlled by this evil power.Jesus himself stepped on, trampled on it and walked to the direction of theapostles. He was on his way to bring calm and peace to His apostles who were soterrified by the threat. If the experience of Peter and the other apostles happenedat sea, the prophet Elijah's experience was on land, on mountains andespecially in the cave of the rock. The evil power also threatened the holyprophet. There were three signs of Satan's power and evil spirit, namelyhurricane, earthquake and fire. All were tempting and trying to destroy Elijah,but this holy and most faithful prophet paid no attention to those temptationsof the evil one. At last he was able to meet the Lord in a gentle breeze, andhe was given by God a mission to be the prophet for his own people. The Lord isindeed our peace. Both Peter and Elijah ended up going through serioustrials in order to meet God. It is precisely when big and terrible threatsindeed come to attack, the Lord Jesus comes for our rescue and gives usstrength so that we can fight them with confidence. If we lose faith, courage,and power that have been given to us, we will fall and perish. The storm ofevil threatens us indefinitely, because the evil power has his own wills thatwe never expect. Therefore we must stay alert and grow stronger in our faith. According to our readings today, Satan or the evilspirit threatens us both when someone is alone like Elijah or when we aretogether like the apostles of Jesus. This threat can strike us while prayinglike Elijah or when we are working like the apostles in their boat. In whateversituation and time as the threat comes, we must live with God's command, namelystepping on it and trample on it, so that we can walk freely and in peace.According to Saint Paul, we do that only for the glory of God.Let'spray. Ada dua bocah, kakak dan adik, sedang bermain di tepi lautpada saat ombak sedang besar dan memecah di pasir dengan bunyi yang keras. Sangibu duduk di bawah pohon sedang mengawasi mereka. Ibu berpesan bahwa merekaagar tidak boleh masuk ke dalam laut untuk bermain dengan ombak, karena akanmembahayakan mereka. Mereka bermain saja di tepi dengan ombak yang memecah dipasir. Mereka harus saling menjaga satu sama lain. Menurut tradisi dan kepercayaan Yahudi, khususnya pada waktu Yesus masihhidup, gelombang laut, ombak, dan angin di permukaan laut adalah tanda setandan roh jahat sedang mengancam untuk menyerang siapa pun yang ada di situ.Ancaman ini dialami oleh rasul Petrus ketika ia ingin menemui Yesus denganberjalan di atas air yang sedang dikuasai penguasa jahat tersebut. Yesussendiri menginjak dan menerjang air itu dan berjalan di atasnya. Ia sedangmenuju kepada para rasul-Nya yang sedang ketakutan dengan ancaman tersebut. Kalau pengalaman Petrus dan para rasul lainnya di laut, pengalaman Eliajustru di daratan, di gunung dan khususnya di dalam gua batu. Di sana juga adapenguasa jahat yang mengancam dia. Ada tiga simbol berkuasanya Setan dan rohjahat, yaitu angin ribut, gempa bumi dan api. Semuanya mencobai dan hendakmenguasai Elia, tetapi nabi yang sangat kuat imannya ini tidak memberikanperhatian apa pun kepada godaan si jahat. Akhirnya ia dapat berjumpa denganTuhan yang berada di dalam angin sepoi basa, dan ia diberikan perutusannya. Baik Petrus maupun Elia akhirnya melewati cobaan yang serius untuk dapatbertemu dengan Tuhan. Justru ketika cobaan dan ancaman memang amat besar danmengerikan, Tuhan Yesus memberikan kita kekuatan supaya kita dapat menerjangdan mengalahkannya. Jika kita kehilangan iman, keberanian, dan kuasa yang sudahdiberikan kepada kita, kita akan jatuh dan binasa. Badai kejahatan mengancamkita dalam waktu yang tidak tentu, karena penguasa jahat mempunyai kehendaknyasendiri yang tidak pernah kita duga. Oleh karena itu kita harus tetap waspadadan bertumbuh sehat di dalam iman. Menurut bacaan-bacaan kita hari ini, setan atau penguasa jahat mengancamkita baik pada saat manusia seorang diri saja seperti Elia maupun sedangbersama saudara atau teman seperti para rasul Yesus. Ancaman itu dapatmenyerang kita pada saat sedang berdoa seperti Elia atau juga pada saat kitasedang bekerja seperti para rasul yang berada di dalam perahu mereka. Di dalamsituasi dan waktu apa pun ancaman itu datang, perintah Tuhan harus kita jalani,yaitu menginjak dan menerjangnya, sehingga kita dapat berjalan bebas dantenang. Menurut Santo Paulus, kita melakukan itu hanya demi kemuliaan Tuhan.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Ya Allah, semoga perayaan hari Minggu ini memperkuat imankami dan semakin taat kepada-Mu. Habakkuk 1: 12 - 2: 4; Rs psalm 9: 8-9.10-11.12-13; Matthew 17: 14-20.FAITH IS AS BIG AS MUSTARD SEED Our meditation today has the theme: Faith as Big asMustard Seed. There was the fact that after all the times in following theMaster, Jesus Christ, it was evident that the apostles could not solve aproblem they were facing. They were not able to heal people who were sick andpossessed by the evil spirits. They could not command the evil spirits out fromthe people who wanted to have a normal life. They were so aware that somethingwent wrong with their faith, but they did not know exactly what was the defect. Jesus Christ made them realized of what lacking wereactually the strength, the quality and the core of their faith which was stillweak, even though they were with Him day and night. Faith is like a mustardseed, which is small but powerful, has good quality, strong and has allpossibility to grow big. With such great potential, a faithful person will beable to do what is impossible. With that power of faith, a mountain can also beordered to move to another place. To be more concrete, what we mean by faith as big as amustard seed? The most essential aspect is that in the life of a believer, Godis the Subject who speaks and does. This suits with what Saint Paul says abouthis faithfulness to the Lord, that it is not he who lives in himself, but JesusChrist who lives in him. Supposedly, you are asked by a friend to help relievehim from the pain he suffers at a moment. You believe that God will doeverything. And so you pray and offer all your attention to help him, but Godis still number one to be given the space or opportunity to do His part. If people only rely on the human abilities to solveproblems or difficulties, they will become lazy, bored, angry and eventuallygive up. It has always happened that way. The reason of this maybe because Godwas not given the space and opportunity to do what should be His part. In theend we will complain like the apostles did, when they indeed realized that theywere not able to solve the problems on their own? Perhaps from His silencemoment and place the Lord was about to remind them and us as well, as He says,"Your faith is not strong. You do not involve Me." The other aspect that indicates faith as big as amustard seed is awareness, availability and love to maintain the faith that isgrowing within us. As small as the mustard seed, our human tendency is tounderestimate, to oversee or even to neglect in caring for it and developingit. It's natural for us to give attention to big and attractive things. Thistendency must be avoided. Saint Dominic, in pursuing his vocation, had done hisworks tirelessly and with good will to make the Word of God planted firmly inthe life of people. What he did was the same as the prophet Habakkuk who saidin the first reading, that faith is the only reason for us to live inrighteousness. Only then can our faith endure to the end. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, Your Mother and alsoour Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary is an example for our faith to become veryuseful like the mustard seed. Ada kenyataanbahwa setelah sekian waktu mengikuti Sang Guru, Yesus Kristus, terbukti pararasul tidak dapat menyelesaikan suatu masalah yang mereka hadapi. Orang sakitdan kerasukan roh jahat tidak dapat mereka sembuhkan dan bebaskan dari rohjahat itu. Mereka jelas menyadari ada yang tidak beres dengan iman mereka,namun mereka tidak tahu persis apa sebenarnya yang tidak beres itu.  Yesus Kristus menemukan bahwa yang kurang pada mereka ialah kekuatan,kualitas dan inti iman itu meski mereka hidup bersama-Nya setiap saat. Imandiumpamakan sebesar biji sesawi, yaitu meski kecil tetapi berisi, berkualitas,berkekuatan dan dikaruniai untuk tumbuh menjadi besar. Potensi yang sedemikianbesar itu akan mampu melakukan apa yang tidak mungkin. Dengan kekuatan itu,gunung juga dapat diperintahkan untuk berpindah tempatnya. Konkretnya, iman sebesar biji sesawi itu seperti apa? Aspek paling intiialah di dalam diri seorang beriman, Tuhan adalah penentu dan penggeraknya. Inimengikuti apa yang dikatakan oleh Santo Paulus, bahwa hidupnya adalah bukandirinya sendiri, tetapi Yesus Kristus yang hidup dalam di dalam dirinya.Misalnya Anda diminta oleh teman untuk membantu meringankan sakitnya. Andaberkeyakinan bahwa Tuhan yang akan berbuat semuanya. Anda berdoa dan memberikansegala perhatian untuk membantunya, tapi Tuhan tetap nomor satu yang diberikanruang atau kesempatan untuk melakukan bagian-Nya. Jika hanya kemampuan manusia yang diandalkan, akibatnya orang menjadi cepatmalas, bosan, marah dan menyerah. Mungkin Tuhan tidak diberikan ruang dankesempatan untuk melakukan apa yang menjadi bagian-Nya. Akhirnya kita akanmengeluh seperti para rasul, yaitu mengapa kita tak bisa menyembuhkan ataumenyelesaikan persoalan sendiri? Mungkin dari keheningan-Nya Tuhan  hendak berbisik, kata-Nya, "Imanmu tidakkuat. Engkau tidak melibatkan Aku." Aspek berikutnya yang menandakan iman sebesar biji sesawi ialah kesadarandan kecintaan untuk mempertahankan iman yang sudah tumbuh di dalam diri kita.Meski kecilnya seperti biji sesawi, godaan untuk meremehkan atau lalaimerawatnya harus dapat dikalahkan. Santo Dominikus yang kita rayakan pada hariini, menekuni panggilannya dengan penuh perhatian dan tanpa kenal lelah dalamusaha untuk membuat Sabda Tuhan mengambil bagian dalam hidup manusia. Apa yangdilakukannya itu adalah sama dengan nabi Habakuk yang mengatakan bahwa imanadalah alasan satu-satunya bagi kita untuk hidup dalam kebenaran. Hanya denganitu iman kita dapat bertahan sampai akhir. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus Kristus, Bunda-Mu dan juga Bunda kami, SantaPerawan Maria menjadi teladan bagi iman kami sehingga menjadi seperti bijisesawi yang sangat berguna. The exchange of goods in the past was done in a barter system, forexample, it was occurred when bananas were brought from mountains zone in orderto be exchanged with fish from beach zone. However, times have changed and theexchange system also changed, and so it is no longer the activity ofexchanging goods but buying goods. We use money to buy goods in markets andshopping centers. Can a person be bought or exchanged in this way? Forexample, a person goes to a rich man, then he is taken by that rich person withamount of money as his value to be given to the person's family. Perhaps thiskind of purchase could be happened, but such incident should be classified assomething abnormal and even a crime in our society. This type of exchange takes place in the context ofmarket and trade. The Lord Jesus teaches us a type of life exchange, which isnot in the context of trade or market. He presents a new lifestyle that bringssalvation to our bodies and souls. To those who choose to follow Him, theprinciple condition is to make a life exchange, that is, a change ofpersonality and the spirit of life. The lifestyle of this world with its temporalachievements is no doubt has made us selfish, enjoying easy life, and wanted tobe served. Jesus demands that this style is to be exchanged with the newlifestyle of His own, which is a self-denial or renunciation. Its main symbolis the carrying of the cross. This act complements what God has done for eachone of us, when He bought us from this world with a very high price. We werealready made His own by the sacrament of Baptism and by our membership in the Church.So we experience an exchange of life in the sense that we belong to Jesus andthe lifestyle of this world is exchanged with the one of Jesus Christ, namelythe self-denial. This does not mean that the world, culture and societyare no longer part of our lives, or rather we lose our right to have thisworld. We actually still experience and have all in this world, but we haveassumed a higher dignity for ourselves being people from this world, namely thefollowers of Christ. We have this dignity and we feel how meaningful we are.The proof is that we promise to befaithful to God through our words and deeds. However, we are not totally freefrom temptation and sin. In fact, the great challenge for sons and daughters ofGod is to maintain their dignity. The prophet Nahum in his preaching said that,God always wants to restore human life that has been damaged by sin. As sonsand daughters of God, we are so special because we are always being restored bythe good and merciful Lord.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Zaman telah berubah dansistem pertukaran ikut berubah, sehingga istilahnya bukan lagi tukar menukarbarang, tetapi membeli barang. Kita memakai uang untuk membeli barang yangdijual di pasar, toko dan pusat-pusat perbelanjaan.  Apakah hidup seseorang bisa ditukar atau dibeli mengikuti cara seperti ini?Misalnya, seseorang pergi ke seorang pemegang uang, lalu ia diambil oleh orangkaya tersebut dan sejumlah uang berpindah tangan ke keluarga orang yang dibelitersebut. Mungkin bisa saja terjadi, namun kejadian itu dapat digolongkansebagai sesuatu tindakan tidak normal bahkan kriminalitas. Pertukaran jenis ini terjadi dalam konteks pasar dan perdagangan. TuhanYesus mengajarkan satu jenis pertukaran hidup, tetapi tidak sebagai sebuahperdagangan. Ia menghadirkan sebuah gaya hidup baru demi meraih keselamatanjiwa dan raga bagi umat manusia. Kepada mereka yang memilih untukmengikuti-Nya, syarat utamanya ialah melakukan sebuah pertukaran hidup, yaituperubahan pribadi dan semangat hidupnya.  Gaya dan semangat duniawi yang membuat kita mementingkan diri kita saja danhidup serba gampang serta ingin selalu dilayani, ditukar dengan gaya hidup barudari Yesus ialah penyangkalan diri. Tanda utamanya ialah memanggul salib. Inimelengkapi apa yang sudah dilakukan oleh Tuhan, yaitu membeli kita dari duniaini dengan harga yang mahal sekali. Kita dijadikan milik-Nya dengan ditandaipembaptisan dan kita menjadi bagian dalam Gereja. Jadi kita mengalami suatupertukaran hidup yang mencakup kepemilikan Tuhan atas diri kita dan gaya hidupdunia ini ditukar dengan gayanya Yesus Kristus yaitu penyangkalan diri. Ini bukan berarti dunia, budaya dan hidup sosial tidak lagi sebagai bagiandari hidup kita, atau sebaliknya kita sendiri kehilangan status di dunia ini.Kita sebenarnya masih mengalami dan memiliki semua, tetapi diri kita telahbertukar kualitasnya menjadi lebih tinggi, yaitu sebagai para pengikut Kristus.Martabat ini sudah kita miliki dan kita merasakan betapa berartinya kita.Buktinya kita berjanji untuk setia kepada Tuhan dalam kata dan perbuatan kita. Namun hal ini tidak membuat kita selaluluput dari godaan dan dosa. Justru tantangan besar bagi putra dan putri Allahialah mempertahankan martabatnya itu. Nabi Nahum dalam pewartaannya mengatakanbahwa, Tuhan selalu ingin memulihkan hidup manusia yang telah rusak karenadosa. Sebagai putra dan putri Allah, kita menjadi istimewa karena selaludipulihkan oleh Tuhan yang maha baik.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... ya Bapa, kami ingin menguduskan diri kami melalui perkataandan perbuatan kami, dan semoga pada hari ini hidup kami berkenan kepada-Mu.Salam Maria... There is a young man who was in his third time falling in love and forhim this last one should bring a positive outcome. The previous two alwaysended in sadness because there were many troubles and conflicts happened. Herecognized his own weaknesses that have contributed to the failure of thoseprevious love relationships. Then he spoke about it with his parents. Hisparents advised him, saying that the decision of heart of what to say and toact depends very much on one's ability to see and to hear. Our eyes and ears must always be active in order toperceive the reality of those whom we love. When you see that the person nextto you is busy with some activities, or when you hear that the person's voiceis very weak, your heart's decision will determine what action you can take infavor of him. That young man agreed to this advise and he promised to use thisthird opportunity of love relationship be meaningful and could go on to thelevel of marriage. Today, as we celebrate the feast Jesus who revealedHis glory or commonly known as the transfiguration day, the Word of God teachesus to experience the glory and greatness of God through our eyes that see andour ears that hear. All three readings describe the physical acts of seeing andhearing that were experienced by the prophet Daniel, the apostle Peter and histwo fellow apostles. They saw the apparition of God and heard the voice thatcame directly from the heavenly Father. Such faith experience of seeing andhearing directly the Lord is indeed desired by all of us. We desire to be thereon the Mount Tabor to witness God's glory like what the apostles hadexperienced.  In our case, our faith and spiritual experiences withthe Lord are indirect events, however, they are the representations that cometo us directly. Jesus represents or manifests His glory through the Holy Father,bishops or priests, or a brother and sister who offer goodness and charity tous. Jesus is truly present as the person from heaven, yet He is made into theEucharistic Bread which we always worship and eat. Jesus also stands at thepulpit and says directly to us the divine Word yet He is represented by a preacher.Such experiences are highly esteemed, and they indeed help our faith grow. Oureyes and ears are very instrumental for the growth of our faith. If we do not listen and see with proper intention andgood attention, we will lose the experience of the glory of God present inothers, the environment, and the events of our lives.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O most loving Lord, may we always eager tosee and hear You in every situation of our lives. Hail Mary, full of grace ...In the name of the Father ...

Seorangpemuda untuk kali ketiganya berpacaran dan ia berpikir kalau kali ini mestimemberikan hasil positif. Dua kali sebelumnya selalu berakhir dengan kesedihanlantaran ada banyak ketidak-sesuaian. Ia mengevaluasi diri dan mengetahui bahwaada sisi negatif dari dirinya yang ikut menyebabkan kegagalan pacaran selamadua kali. Lalu ia bicarakan itu dengan kedua orang tuanya. Nasihat kedua orangtuanya begini: keputusan hati kita untuk berkata dan bertindak sangatbergantung pada kemampuan melihat dan mendengar.  Mata dan telinga kita harus senantiasa aktif untuk mendapatkan kenyataantentang orang lain yang kita kasihi. Ketika melihat bahwa orang di sampingmusedang sibuk dengan berbagai pekerjaan, atau ketika telinga mendengar kalauorang tersebut suaranya sudah tidak berdaya, keputusan hatimu akan menentukantindakan untuk memperhatikan dia. Pemuda itu mengamini nasihat itu dan bertekatuntuk membuat kesempatan pacaran yang ketiga kali itu berbuah baik dan bisameningkat menjadi hubungan ke jenjang perkawinan. Pada hari pesta Yesus menampakkan kemuliaan-Nya ini, Sabda Tuhanmengajarkan kita untuk mengalami kemuliaan dan kebesaran Tuhan melalui matakita yang melihat dan telinga kita yang mendengar. Ketiga bacaan menggambarkanpenglihatan dan pendengaran fisik yang dialami oleh nabi Daniel, rasul Petrusdan kedua rekannya. Mereka melihat penampakan Tuhan dan mendengar suara yangdatang langsung dari Tuhan. Suatu pengalaman iman yang secara langsung sepertiini sangat didambakan oleh banyak dari kita. Kita bagaikan terangkat setinggigunung Tabor tempat para rasul menyaksikan penampakan kemuliaan Tuhan. Saat ini hampir semua pengalaman iman kita ialah kejadian-kejadian tidaklangsung namun dipertandai secara langsung. Yesus bersabda dan menampakkankemuliaan-Nya melalui diri Bapa Suci, atau seorang imam, atau seorang saudarayang berbuat baik dan mengasihi kita. Pengalaman-pengalaman seperti ini sangat bernilai tinggi danmembantu pertumbuhan iman kita. Mata dan telinga kita sangat berperan untukpertumbuhan iman ini. Yang menjadi masalah ialah jika kita tidak mendengar dan melihat dengansuatu perhatian yang baik, kita tentu saja akan kehilangan pengalaman akankemuliaan Tuhan yang hadir di dalam diri sesama, alam lingkungan, dan peristiwahidup kita. There is a friend who has a story for us today, that is about his dreamsome times ago. In his dream, he found himself being tempted by the Satan whotook him to visit various places. The Satan showed him pleasant and verywonderful places in the world. The Satan told him that he must decide at once achoice to stay in the house of Satan, and all the wonderful things seen duringtheir tour would be his benefit for the whole life. He must have a happy lifewith no limits. But that man refused to follow the Satan's demand. Hereasoned out that the almighty God already consecrated him, his family membersand friends. It's better for the Satan to go and looking for other people, and betterto let him free. The Satan was so angry and threatened to destroy him. ThenSatan brought him right on the edge of a cliff and the man could see fardownward without end. He will be thrown there as a punishment which was alreadyprepared by the Satan. When he began to fall, he cried loudly in uttering thename of the Lord Jesus Christ. Immediately there was an Angel of God with sostrong wings, more powerful that the Satan's wings, took him up and brought himto a landing, which was in his own home. He survived the power of Satan and hewoke up from that dream. He has defeated Satan by giving himself to be saved byGod. God is always the destination of our complaints andcries, both through the expression of our hearts and with uttering words or cryof our strongest emotion. There are so many cries or shouts for help from thisworld and God hears every one of them and then gives His generous response. Wealways complain, call and shout for His attention, or weep and plead with Himto show our dependence upon Him. Today the passage of the Gospel also tells us, thatthrough a cry for help, the non-Jewish woman eventually found Jesus Christ'shelp. Her faith in Jesus brought healing of her son from the possession of theevil spirits. Our cry for help addressed to God is really important and urgent.Our cry for urgent help from other people is also equally important. There aremany urgent needs around us such as natural disasters, accidents, illness,hunger and many other similar problems that need recoveries and helps from ourfellow brothers and sisters. They are so important for us. As children of God,we should not be reluctant and passive either to look for helps or openourselves to give help. Let us not keep our cry unheard or unnoticed for helpand let our neighbor's cry not go away with the blowing wind without ournotice.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Almighty and most loving God, fill ourhearts and minds with grace of generosity so that we can offer our helps to thedemands of our brothers and sisters who are in need. Adaseorang teman bercerita tentang mimpinya beberapa waktu lalu. Setan berusahamencobai dia dan membawanya pergi ke berbagai tempat. Setan menunjukkankepadanya tempat-tempat yang amat bagus dan menyenangkan. Setan berkatakepadanya bahwa ia mesti segera memutuskan untuk tinggal bersamanya, dan semuakeindahan yang telah dilihatnya itu akan menjadi jaminan bagi seluruh hidupnya.Ia pasti hidup bahagia yang tiada batasnya.  Tetapi orang itu menolak. Ia memberikan alasan kepada Setan bahwa Tuhansudah lebih dahulu memilikinya, anggota-anggota keluarganya dan teman-temannya.Lebih baik Setan pergi menggodai orang lain, bukan dirinya. Setan marah sekalidan mengancam akan menghancurkan dia. Setan membawa dia persis di tepi jurangdan ia sendiri dapat melihat jauh ke bawah yang tidak ada ujungnya. Ia akandijatuhkan di situ sebagai hukuman dari Setan.  Saat ia mulai jatuh, ia berteriak sekeras-keras dengan menyebut nama TuhanYesus. Segera ada Malaikat Tuhan dengan sayapnya yang sangat kokoh, melebihsayapnya Setan, memegang dia lalu membawanya ke sebuah pendaratan, yaitu dirumahnya sendiri. Ia selamat dari kuasa Setan dan ia terbangun dari mimpinyaitu. Ia telah berhasil mengalahkan Setan. Tuhan selalu menjadi tujuan pengaduan dan teriakan kita, baik itu berupaungkapan dari dalam hati maupun dengan suara normal atau lantang. Ada begitubanyak teriakan minta tolong dari dunia ini dan Tuhan mendengar semuanya lalumemberikan jawaban-Nya. Kita selalu mengadu, memanggil dan meneriak memanggilnama-Nya, atau menangis dan memohon dengan sangat kepada-Nya, yang berartibahwa kita sangat bergantung kepada-Nya.  Hari ini juga kita diberitahu dalam Injil, bahwa melalui teriakan mintatolong, perempuan yang bukan beriman Yahudi itu mendapatkan pertolongan YesusKristus. Imannya kepada Yesus membantu menyembuhkan anaknya dari cengkeramanroh jahat. Sungguh, berteriak minta tolong kepada Tuhan itu penting danmendesak. Sama urgennya dengan mengadu dan meminta tolong kepada sesama atassuatu kebutuhan yang mendesak. Musibah bencana alam, kebakaran, kecelakaan,sakit, kelaparan merupakan contoh kebutuhan urgen di sekitar kita, di sampingbanyak masalah lain sejenis. Sebagai anak-anak Tuhan, hendaknya kita tidakmenahan diri dan pasif baik untuk meminta pertolongan, maupun membuka diriuntuk memberikan pertolongan. Hendaklah kita tidak menyimpan rapat-rapatteriakan kita minta tolong dan membiarkan saja teriakan sesama kita hanyaseperti angin lalu. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... John Vianney is a saint who brought together two qualitiesof human person, namely man's fragility and man's wisdom. During the years offormation and education then until he became a priest, John was known to bevery weak or fragile in the aspect of intellectual ability to study. Consequently, he was given not only some humble duties,but also he was not expected to do much for others. It was natural that he wasunderestimated with such expression: "The blind should not lead theblind". He was merely a man who did not have enough knowledge, and howcould he as a priest teach and guide people? However, as we all know very well that God alwaysempowers the little ones, John was enriched by the Lord with divine blessingsthen was made a very special priest that the Church and people of his timetruly needed. In a remote parish where he dedicated his entire life, he was aman of God very well known to be full of wisdom and love of God. People camefrom all over France and the world to meet him for confession, good spiritualguidance, prayer intentions, and blessings. For the Catholic Church, thisL'Arch Saint is the patron of priests, especially the parish priests. John's main duty was to guide the people in the way toGod. This work is the same as to lead, to direct and to teach. There should besomeone who has more quality and who is trusted to do this work. The work ofguidance, teaching or leading cannot happen as it is expected to be if there isno trust between persons concerned. This work of guidance relies very much on the twoimportant human qualities within us, namely reason which is the intellectualaspect and faith which is the divine wisdom. The prophet Jeremiah used thesetwo qualities in order to develop awareness and faith of the people of Israelabout the punishment and blessings that were properly being given to them bythe Lord.                                                                                                                                        The Pharisees and the scribes were condemned by Jesusbecause added to their being so strong in the rejection of Jesus Christ, theyactually led many common people not in the way toward God but to be away fromGod. They were not like Jeremiah, John Vianney and Jesus Christ Himself. Theywere the people and many other in the same pattern who are actually blind aboutliving out the true faith, yet they assume an authority to lead many otherpeople who want to grow in true faith and who still need to learn more on thefaith in God. So, our great challenge today is to strengthenourselves with intellectual and faith qualities, and to be remain the truefollowers of Christ, so that we do not fall into sin that cause others alsointo sin. Let'spray. Yohanes Maria Vianey adalah seorang Santo yang mempertemukan dua kutubkualitas pribadi manusia, yaitu kerapuhan dan kebijaksanaan. Selama prosespembinaan dan sampai menjadi seorang imam, ia dikenal sangat rapuh karenakemampuan intelektualnya sangat rendah.  Akibatnya ia bukan hanya diberikan pekerjaan yang sederhana, tetapi jugasecara alamiah tidak diperhitungkan atau diharapkan untuk berbuat banyak bagiorang lain. Maka wajar ia diremehkan dengan ujaran seperti ini: "Janganlahorang buta menuntun orang buta". Ia seorang manusia yang bodoh, mana bisaia sebagai imam untuk mengajar dan menuntun orang lain? Tetapi karena Tuhan hendak mengangkat orang-orang kecil, Yohanes mendapatberkat yang istimewa. Di suatu paroki terpencil ia abdikan hidupnya, ia penuhdengan kebijaksanaan dan kasih Tuhan. Orang-orang datang dari seluruh penjuruPrancis dan dunia untuk mencarinya supaya dilayani pengakuan dosa, diberikannasihat, didoakan, dan diberkati. Bagi Gereja kita, Santo dari desa L'ArchPrancis ini adalah pelindung para imam, khususnya pastor paroki. Tugas utama Yohanes Maria Vianney ialah menuntun umat beriman kepada Tuhan.Pekerjaan ini sama dengan membimbing, mengarahkan dan mengajarkan. Yangmenuntun pasti seseorang yang memiliki kualitas lebih dan dipercayai untukmelakukannya. Sebuah bimbingan, pengajaran atau tuntunan tidak dapat terjadikalau tidak ada kepercayaan.  Tugas ini sangat mengandalkan dua kekuatan besar di dalam diri kita, yaituakal budi sebagai faktor intelektual dan iman yang menjadi kebijaksanaan Ilahi.Nabi Yeremia menggunakan dua kekuatan ini untuk membuka kesadaran dankepercayaan umat Israel tentang hukuman dan berkat yang layak diberikan. Orang-orang Farisi dan para ahli Taurat dikecam Yesus karena selain merekaterang-terangan menolak Yesus, mereka juga menuntun orang lain bukan kepadakeselamatan tetapi kebinasaan. Mereka tidak seperti Yeremia, Yohanes MariaVianey dan Yesus Kristus, sang Guru yang agung. Mereka yang buta tentang imanyang benar menuntun banyak orang lain yang ingin bertumbuh dalam iman yangbenar dan yang masih perlu banyak belajar untuk lebih beriman. Maka tantangan kita yang amat besar saat ini ialah mencukupi diri kitadengan kualitas intelektual dan iman sebagai pengikut Kristus, sehingga kitatidak jatuh dalam kesalahan menjadi penyebab orang lain jatuh ke dalam dosa. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... During a time of economic hardship due to a long dry season, afarmer and his family prayed in these words: "O Lord, do not let us gohungry or thirsty." This prayer was shared on a WhatsApp group in the localparish community, and soon many farmers and their families were saying the sameprayer. God heard their prayers, and it seemed that even during this difficulttime, the farmers did not run out of food from their fields.  In the Old Testament of the Holy Scriptures, it is saidhow God's people who wandered in the desert often experienced hunger becausefood was not enough. Therefore, God provided them manna and meat, even though itwas not enough to satisfy them. They still complained and protested becauselife as a wanderer in the desert was full with difficulties and sufferings. Jesus Christ fell pity over many people who followedand heard Him along the way of His public ministry. He was so moved with pity forall those who were experiencing difficulties, not only those who were hungryand thirsty, but all the problems both physical and spiritual of people of Histime. One of those problems which was spiritual in nature is fear. This fearmust be overcome with a life of peace, calmness and trust in God as well as inourselves as believers. In general, people become worried, doubtful, afraid,and distrustful when trials and difficulties come upon them. In today's Gospel,we are told that the apostles were in a boat and they were so disturbed bystrong winds and violent waves. In such difficult circumstance the Lord came tohelp them. They became afraid because they thought that it was a ghost. Inanother occasion, the people of Israel who had lived for a long time in exile,were visited by a shocking news that caused fear, namely their freedom and thepossibility to return to their homeland. A man's fear of God is a sign that he has a truefaith. God always comes to our favors and He certainly saves us. Therefore,this fear is useful to help us prepare ourselves as best as we can, so that Hefinds us in a state of true faith, we are prepared to welcome Him, and we areactive in our daily undertakings. Such fear is very contrary to the type offear towards others who are not God such as ghosts, demons, and other subjectsthat only intend to disturb and tempt us. For us Christian and our journey ofsalvation, we must fear God, not ghosts. God is with us to help us, whereasghosts do not. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... In Your love and mercy, O Father, we wishto put all our needs, especially today, so that we can receive Your blessingsthroughout this day. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... Rumusan doa itu disebarkan ke group Whatsapp diParoki, sehingga dalam waktu dekat sudah sekian banyak keluarga petani berdoademikian. Tuhan mendengar doa-doa mereka, sehingga tampaknya di masa yang sulititu para petani tidak kehabisan sumber makanan yang didapatkan dari lahangarapan mereka.                                                             Di dalam kitab suci perjanjian lama dikisahkan bagaimana umat Allah yangmengembara di padang gurun sering mengalami kelaparan karena ketiadaan makanan.Karena itu Tuhan menyediakan mereka manna dan daging, meski tidak cukupmemuaskan mereka. Mereka tetap saja mengeluh dan protes karena hidup sebagaipengembara memang penuh kesulitan dan penderitaan. Yesus Kristus jatuh kasihan pada banyak sekali orang yang mengikuti danmendengarkan Dia. Ia sangat memberikan perhatian kepada semua orang yang sedangmengalami kesulitan, tidak hanya mereka yang lapar dan haus, tetapi semuakebutuhan hidup baik jasmani maupun rohani. Salah satu kebutuhan rohani ituialah rasa takut, yang harus diatasi dengan rasa damai, tenang dan penuhkepercayaan kepada Tuhan dan diri kita sebagai orang-orang beriman.  Pada umumnya, orang-orang menjadi kawatir, ragu, takut, dan tidak percayaketika cobaan dan kesulitan datang menimpa mereka. Di dalam Injil hari ini,dikisahkan bahwa para rasul berada di dalam perahu yang diganggu oleh anginkencang dan gelombang yang ganas. Dalam keadaan yang sulit seperti itu Tuhandatang untuk membantu mereka. Mereka menjadi takut karena menyangka bahwa ituadalah hantu. Umat Israel yang sudah sekian lamanya hidup dalam pembuangan,didatangi oleh suatu kabar yang membuat kaget, yaitu pembebasan dan kembalinyamereka ke tanah airnya.  Rasa takut manusia kepada Tuhan merupakan suatu tanda ia beriman denganbenar. Tuhan datang untuk memperhatikan dan menyelamatkan, sehingga ketakutanini sangat berguna untuk membantu kita agar kita bersiap diri dengansebaik-baiknya, sehingga Ia menemukan kita dalam keadaan beriman yang benar,bersiap untuk menyambut-Nya, dan sedang tekun dalam tugas-tugas kita. Ketakutanseperti ini sangat bertentangan dengan jenis ketakutan kepada pihak lain yangbukan Tuhan, seperti hantu, setan, dan pengaruh lain yang hanya bermaksud untukmengganggu dan mencobai kita. Untuk kehidupan iman yang sesungguhnya dankeselamatan, kita harus takut kepada Tuhan, bukan hantu. Tuhan ada bersama kitauntuk menolong kita, sedangkan hantu tidak. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Di dalam kasih dan kemurahan-Mu, ya Bapa, kami ingin menaruhsegala keperluan kami, khususnya pada hari ini, supaya kami dapat menerimaberkat-berkat-Mu dalam sepanjang hari ini. Isaiah 55: 1-3; Rs psalm 145: 8-9.15-16.17-18; Romans 8: 35.37-39; Matthew 14: 13-21.OUR DUTY IS TO SHARE The theme for our meditation on this 18thSunday in Ordinary Time is: Our Duty is to Share. There was a 12-year-old boywho was given an apple brought by his parents from abroad. The mother asked himto give some of it to his 9 years old sister. Before doing that, he first askedhis mother as he said: "Mommy, should I share it with her, or give it toher?" The mother was somehow confused by her son's question. So the son explained himself. He said that if he wouldshare the apple he must divide it into two, either the same sizes for himselfand his younger sister or not. Meanwhile, if he would give that apple, it wouldthat there was a possibility to give it all, or not give it at all. The motherwas so proud of her boy's way of thinking. Together with the mother, we all canappreciate and agree with the view of that boy. We all believe that it is truly our responsibility orduty to share the gifts that we have. God has the power and ability to give uswhat is appropriate and sufficient to each of our circumstance and vocation. Forour part, we are not supposed to bother ourselves in giving and try our hardestway to give and satisfy others, for we need only enough kindness and generosityto share what we already have by the grace of God. This kind of conviction is very important for us thefollowers of Christ and the mission we intend to do. The Lord's gift is enoughfor every one to be able to live out one's life in this world. Saint Paul saysin his letter to the Romans that this gift manifests its fulness in the love ofChrist for us. The book of the prophet Isaiah in the first reading todayconfirms the same thing, namely the gift of eternal covenant between God and usis realized in a true love of Jesus Christ, which had been promised long ago asthe Lord already did for David. By realizing that we have these gifts, we should beconfident and willing to share them to our neighbors. Even though perhaps weonly have a very little quantity and quality like those of five loaves and twofish, as the Gospel reading of  todaynarates, we are certainly willing to share them. Whether the little we share issufficient both for ourselves and others, it is by the power of God's love thatwe are willing to give. It is the work of God who provides and gives. God'swill and power make our little and hard work possible. God is pleased to multiply it when we have the spiritof love, joy, and willingness to share. With or without our expectation, themiracles of God happen. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Almighty and powerful God, strengthen ourzeal to be active and glad in sharing our gifts to our neighbours, and for allthese, may we be always thankful. Our Father who art in heaven ... Yesaya 55: 1-3; Mazmur tg 145: 8-9.15-16.17-18; Roma 8: 35.37-39; Matius 14: 13-21.TUGAS KITA IALAH BERBAGI Tema renungan kita pada hari Minggu Biasa ke-18 ini ialah: Tugas Kita IalahBerbagi. Ada seorang anak laki-laki berusia 12 tahun diberikan sebuah apel yangdibawa orang tuanya dari luar negeri. Ibu meminta dia untuk memberikan sebagiankepada adiknya perempuan yang berusia 9 tahun. Sebelum melakukan itu, iabertanya dahulu kepada ibunya: "Ma, sebaiknya aku bagi sama adik, atauberikan adik apel ini?"  Ibunya agakbingung dengan pertanyaan anaknya itu. Maka anak itu menjelaskan kepada ibunya, bahwa kalau ia membagi apel itumaka ia akan membagikannya menjadi dua bagian, bisa sama besar atau tidak samabesar bagian-bagiannya untuk dirinya dan untuk adiknya. Sedangkan kalau iamemberikan apel itu, berarti ada kemungkinan ia dapat memberikan semuanya, atautidak memberikan sama sekali. Ibu sangat bangga dengan kemampuan berpikiranaknya tersebut. Bersama ibu tersebut, kita semua dapat memberikan apresiasidan persetujuan kita kepada bocah laki-laki tersebut. Ada sebagian dari kita memiliki keyakinan sebagai dasar perbuatan kasihkepada orang lain, yaitu tanggung jawab atau tugas kita untuk berbagikarunia-karunia yang ada pada kita. Tuhan yang mempunyai kekuasaan dankemampuan untuk memberikan kita yang pantas dan tepat sesuai dengan keadaan danpanggilan kita masing-masing. Bagi kita, sesungguhnya kita  tidak perlu merepotkan diri untuk memberi danberusaha sekuat tenaga untuk memberi, tetapi kita perlu cukup kebaikan dankemurahan hati untuk berbagi yang sudah kita miliki. Keyakinan seperti ini sangatlah penting karena hal ini sejalan denganperutusan kita sebagai para pengikut Kristus. Karunia dari Tuhan bagi kitaadalah cukup kepada setiap orang untuk dapat menjalani hidupnya di dalam duniaini. Santo Paulus berkata di dalam suratnya kepada jemaat di Roma, bahwakarunia itu berwujud dalam kasih Kristus kepada kita. Kitab nabi Yesaya dalambacaan pertama hari ini menegaskan hal yang sama, yaitu karunia perjanjianabadi antara Tuhan dengan kita berwujud dalam kasih setia yang teguh, yangtelah dijanjikan sejak dahulu seperti yang dilakukan-Nya kepada Daud. Dengan menyadari bahwa kita memiliki karunia-karunia tersebut, kitahendaknya percaya diri untuk dapat membagikannya. There is at a city gate, a famous statue which is called "The Childon the Mother's Shoulder" stands to give meaning to the city. In the pastthe city was defended by a young man who led the whole people to fight theenemies who wanted to occupy the city. Even though the city was successfullydefended, this young man was killed in the war. His own mother put the son onher shoulder, and while mourning for him she carried him into the city to begiven reverence by everyone and the whole city. The Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, cared forHim, and witnessed with her own eyes the son's shameful death, then she putJesus' body on her lap (the la pietafrom Michaelangelo). The Blessed Mother witnessed firsthand the Lamb of God whowas sacrificed for defending the truth from those who were seeking to destroythe truth. Mary's nephew, John the Baptist, was also killed earlier than Jesusby an evil king Herod because this ruler was so threatened by the truth. AfterJesus and John the Baptist, there are men and women throughout generations havebeen willing to sacrifice their lives for defending the truth that comes fromGod. Heroes from our towns and countries are people who have died for thetruth. Then the question is this: does the truth have to becompensated by death? The first answer would be on those who oppose the truth,namely people of bad reputation or people who are known for their evil deeds,who seem to be very strong in this world, and their goal is to eliminate thetruth and all the elements associated with it. One of its main targets is todestroy those who fight for the truth, who defend it and who live by it. And another answer would be more on the spiritualpoint of view. Here, it is irrelevant with violence and bloodshed, maybebecause the enemy or opponent is rather weak. However, the truth remains ourprinciple point of reference in life and must be upheld. Our real challenge isto live out that truth with genuinity, to practice it and to make others livein truth as well. It is here that we should die for our laziness, boredom,indifference, selfishness, forgetfulness and other personal deficiencies thatput us away from the responsibility to live in truth. The truth, in principle, is in accordance with realityor fact. This means that it is against what is not real or lie. Truth is alsodefined according to rules, norms, morals. If you are morally recognized, youhave truth and this is contrary to acts that break the rules or moralstandards. Ultimately, truth for us believers is to do God's will and commands,therefore, everything untrue is following the will which is not from God butfrom someone else. So let us live by the truth that we are obliged to, even todefend it till our death.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Di gerbangsebuah kota, ada patung terkenal yang bernama "Anak di Pundak Ibu"untuk memberi makna kota tersebut. Pada zaman dahulu kota itu dibela olehseorang pemuda yang memimpin segenap masyarakat untuk melawan para musuh yangingin menduduki kota. Meskipun kota ini berhasil dipertahankan, tetapi pemudaini mati terbunuh dalam perang. Ibunya sendiri yang menaruh putranya di pundak,memikulnya dan membawa ke tengah kota untuk dihormati oleh semua orang. Bunda Maria melahirkan, membesarkan, sampai menyaksikan sendiri putranyaYesus Kristus dihukum mati lalu meniduri jenasah Yesus di pangkuannya (la pieta dari Michaelangelo). Mariamenyaksikan langsung Anak Domba Allah yang dikorbankan karena mempertahankankebenaran dari pihak-pihak yang anti kebenaran. Keponakan Maria, YohanesPembaptis, juga lebih dahulu rela untuk dibunuh oleh penguasa jahat demi menegakkankebenaran. Menyusul Yesus dan Yohanes Pembaptis ialah banyak pria dan wanitasepanjang zaman telah rela mengorbankan nyawanya karena mempertahankankebenaran yang berasal dari Tuhan. Para pahlawan adalah orang-orang yang matidemi kebenaran. Lalu pertanyaannya: apakah kebenaran itu harus dibayar dengan kematian?Jawaban paling pertama ialah bahwa pihak yang melawan kebenaran yaituorang-orang jahat berpotensi sangat kuat di dunia ini, yang tujuannya ialahmenghilangkan kebenaran dan segala yang baik. Salah satu targetnya yang utamaialah membinasakan orang-orang yang berjuang dalam kebenaran, yangmempertahankan kebenaran dan yang menghidupi kebenaran.  Jawaban lain, jika memang tidak ada penentang berpotensi kuat bahkan pihakyang melawan kebenaran itu sangat lemah, kebenaran itu masih harusdipertahankan di dunia ini. Ancaman penumpahan darah tidak relevan. Ancamannyalebih rohani, sebenarnya sebagai tantangan untuk menghidupi kebenaran itu,memberikan kesaksian dan membuat banyak orang lain hidup di dalam kebenaranjuga. Di sini orang perlu mematikan kemalasan, kebosanan, masa bodoh, egois,lupa dan kekurangan-kekurangan pribadi lainnya. Kebenaran itu pada prinsipnya ialah sesuai kenyataan atau fakta. Maka iaberlawanan dengan bukan nyata atau bukan fakta. Kebenaran juga sesuai aturan,norma, moral; maka berlawanan dengan pelanggaran aturan. Kebenaran itu ialahmelakukan kehendak dan perintah Allah; maka berlawanan dengan kehendak bukandari Tuhan. Jadi marilah kita pertahankan kebenaran kita, bahkan sampai kita mati. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Tuhan yang maha kuasa, semoga usaha-usaha kami untukmempertahankan kebenaran dan memberikan kesaksian tentang itu kepada setiaporang di sekitar kami, dapat selalu berkenan kepada-Mu. A person who is said to have good faith if he has these three elementsthat are equally substantial: knowledge, celebration and practice or life offaith. The knowledge of faith refers to doctrines, teachings or dogmas. Thecelebration of faith is expressed in act of worships, ministry of sacraments,prayers and devotions. The life of faith is shown in the testimony anddedication of what is believed into the real life. With regards to the celebration of faith, some basicelements that are mostly required to make a celebration happens are like theorder of celebration, times for celebration, norms and regulation, places ofworship and participation of faithful. All these requirements aim to bring allthe faithful together as a community of believers who worship and dedicatetheir faith to the Lord. The institution and regulation of this faithcelebration was already made in the old covenant, when it was started by Mosesand continued to the time of the prophets and priests. In our today's readingfrom the book of the prophet Jeremiah, it is described how Jeremiah stood atthe court of the house of God and delivered God's Word to all religious leadersand God's people. They all gathered there to give thanks, to worship God and tooffer sacrifices. The Prophet had a duty to deliver that message of the Word ofGod. The truth and goodness of the Word of God will determine whether those wholistened to it were the good people of God or vice versa the sinners whoopposed God.                                                                                                                                        The divine law establishes this celebration of faithas the third commandment of God, which is to require faithful to keep theLord's day holy. The Church does not only dedicate Sunday as the holy day ofobligation, but also a number of holidays and feasts. Since it is a commandfrom God to celebrate, then it should be an obligation. The faithful who do notobserve this obligation, they are guilty of violating the commandment of God.In addition there is the practice of devotion by members of the Church, thoughnot an obligation, but it is very useful to strengthen our faith. For exampleprayer of the Rosary and  the singing ofspiritual songs would be very helpful in helping our faith grow. One of the celebrations of faith that is mostlyrecommended to all of us is the celebration of Word of God. This celebration ismade when the Word of God is read, heard, pondered and shared. The celebrationof the word in various places such as our houses, chapel or church with orwithout the eucharistic celebration is an occasion for us to encounter thePerson who has the Word speaking to us in a personal way. The synagogue waswhere the Word of God being celebrated according to Jewish norms. But when Jesuswanted to preach His own Word in His place of origin, people from His ownfamilies and town obviously rejected Him and because of that He did not want toshare them the good news from the loving God. As a result, there was noblessing coming to them. The purpose of celebration of faith is for us toreceive blessings from God for all our needs in life. Let us always be happyand genuine in the celebration of our faith. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Seseorang dikatakanberiman dengan baik kalau dalam dirinya terpenuhi tiga unsur ini: pengetahuan,perayaan dan praktik atau penghayatan iman. Pengetahuan berisi doktrin, ajaranatau dogma-dogma. Perayaan berwujud pada ibadat, sakramen, doa dandevosi-devosi. Penghayatan terungkap dalam kesaksian, dedikasi dan pengabdianiman itu dalam kehidupan nyata.                                                                                                         Khususnya tentang perayaan iman, institusi atau penetapan waktu, tata cara,tempat dan partisipasi merupakan unsur-unsur dasarnya. Penetapan dimaksudkanuntuk dirayakan bersama dan dalam persekutuan umat.  Institusi perayaan-perayaan iman dalam perjanjian lama dimulai oleh Musadan diteruskan dalam masa para nabi dan para imam. Di dalam bacaan kita hariini oleh nabi Yeremia, digambarkan bagaimana Yeremia berdiri di pelataran rumahTuhan dan menyampaikan Sabda Tuhan kepada semua pemuka agama dan umat Allah.Umat berkumpul untuk bersyukur, bersujud dan menyembah Tuhan Allah. Nabimemiliki tugas untuk memberikan pewartaan Sabda Tuhan. Kebenaran dan kebaikandari Sabda Tuhan itu akan menentukan apakah para pendengar itu adalah umatAllah yang baik atau sebaliknya pendosa yang melawan Tuhan.  Hukum Tuhan menetapkan ini sebagai perintah ketiga, yaitu kuduskanlah hariTuhan. Gereja memberikan ketetapannya tidak hanya berupa hari Minggu wajib,tetapi juga sejumlah hari raya dan pesta. Karena sebagai perintah Tuhan, makasifatnya ialah kewajiban. Tanpa menjalankannya berarti bersalah melawan Tuhan.Selain itu ada praktik devosi oleh anggota-anggota Gereja, meski bukankewajiban, tetapi sangat berguna untuk menyemangati iman kita. Misalnya doarosario dan lagu-lagu rohani ternyata sangat membantu menguatkan iman kita. Salah satu perayaan iman yang merupakan kewajiban kita ialah perayaan SabdaTuhan. Perayaan dibuat ketika Sabda Tuhan itu dibacakan, diperdengarkan,direnungkan dan dibagikan. Ibadat sabda di lingkungan, kapel atau gereja entahada ekaristi atau tanpa ekaristi merupakan kesempatan perayaan Sabda itu.Sinagoga ialah tempat Sabda Tuhan dirayakan menurut tata cara Yahudi. Namunketika Yesus hendak melakukan perayaan Sabda itu di tempat asalnya, orang-orangdari kalangan-Nya justru menolak dan tidak mau Sabda itu dirayakan. Akibatnya,tidak ada berkat Tuhan dan perbuatan Allah turun ke atas mereka.  Perayaan iman itu bertujuan selain memuji dan memuliakan Tuhan, ialahmembuka diri kita untuk mendapatkan berkat-berkat dari Tuhan. Marilah kitabersemangat selalu merayakan iman kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Jeremiah 18: 1-6; Rs psalm 146: 2abc.2d-4.5-6; Matthew 13: 47-53.GOD DETERMINES AT THE END The theme for our meditation today is: God Decides atthe End. We often tend to surrender when the problem that we face never findsits solution. Surrender means to make a retreat and stop to continue to speakor to act. Surrender is not about someone who is hopeless with greatdisappointment and sadness. Those who surrender over something or someone areactually those who still have room for hope, and they are open for solutionsthat may come in their favor such as time, other people, fortune, and  of course God. The most common one is our surrender to God. Forinstance, there was a fight between two persons that never ended. There werealready many efforts to find solution for their problem such as throughfamily's peace talks, religious assistance and trial in the court but they havenot been able to solve their problem. The loser would always force the issue sothat the problem would just remain disturbing. At certain point both partiesbelieved that there was no longer reason to remain in conflict and fight,therefore, they chose to surrender. The last thing still remained was to bringthe problem to God and He would decide or judge for each of them. God'sjudgement will be made after our death, where every person will be judgedaccording to one's behavior in this life on earth. This example illustrates how God determines at the endof our journey of life. Jesus gave us a proper parable to teach us about thisfinal determination, namely the judgement in heaven that ultimately decides whois right and who is wrong. God has such a wise strategy. He does not make bigand final judgement when there is still time for us to change ourselves whilewe are still on earth. God is patient and tolerant so that the trouble makersand the sinful ones still have opportunity to repent before their death. This strategy of course contradicts with the way wehumans normally do, which is the enjoyment for those who win and the sadnessfor those who lose in the world. People commonly perceive that the joy ofvictory is final or the sadness of losing is the end. Yet the truth is that,those wins and loses are just pieces of life event that cannot be consideredfinal of our journey. Our standard of justice is only to fulfill the demands ofthis world, whereas a judgement which is the highest final is indeed thestandard of the Lord, the almighty. It is our true belief that our finaldetermination is from God. According to the prophet Jeremiah, as long as we livein this world, our lives should follow God's determination, like the way thepotter carves things from clay. Through His will and wisdom, God wants to shapeus in our words and actions every day so that we can experience how Hedetermines our lives from one moment to another, from our wake up in themorning until our sleep at night. This is our way of life that leads us to thefinal judgement in heaven. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, may we always lookforward to the final moment of your judgement over us with our firm faith andlasting hope. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Pasrah berarti menyerah dan berhenti untukmelanjutkan entah itu pembicaraan atau perbuatan. Pasrah bukan putus asaditambah dengan kekecewaan dan kesedihan. Orang yang pasrah masih memilikiruang yang cukup untuk berharap, bahwa solusi bisa datang dari luar dirinyaseperti waktu, orang lain, keberuntungan, dan Tuhan. Yang paling umum ialah pasrah kita kepada Tuhan. Misalnya pertengkaranantara dua pihak yang tak kunjung selesai. Solusi dari aspek kekeluargaan,keagamaan dan hukum sipil sudah tak mampu menyelesaikannya. Pihak yang merasatidak beruntung selalu mempersoalkan sehingga masalah semakin berlarut-larut.Karena yakin tak ada gunanya lagi berusaha, mereka memilih pasrah saja. Harapanterakhir ialah pada Tuhan yang memutuskan dan mengadili. Pengadilannya nantisetelah kematian, di mana setiap orang akan diadili menurut perilaku dalamkehidupannya di dunia. Contoh ini menggambarkan bagaimana Tuhan yang menentukan di akhirperjalanan hidup kita, atas persoalan-persoalan yang kita hadapi. Yesusmemberikan kita perumpamaan yang pas untuk ini, yaitu bahwa pada akhirnyapengadilan di surga itu akan memutuskan siapa yang benar dan siapa yang salah.Tuhan mempunyai strategi yang begitu bijaksana. Ia tidak memberikan keputusanbesar dan terakhir ketika masih ada waktu bagi manusia untuk berproses. Tuhanmempunyai kesabaran dan toleransi supaya manusia yang terlanjur jelek danberdosa dapat bertobat sebelum kematiannya.                                                                                                                           Strategi ini tentu saja berbanding terbalik dengan cara kita manusia yangingin menikmati siapa yang menang dan siapa yang kalah di dunia. Seakan-akansuka cita kemenangan yang dicapai sudah final atau kesedihan karena kalah sudahselesai. Padahal itu hanyalah sepotong-sepotong persoalan yang tidak bisadikatakan final. Standar pengadilan kita memang hanya untuk memenuhi tuntutanhidup di dunia ini, sedangkan pengadilan yang jauh lebih tinggi dan final ialahstandarnya Tuhan. Karena itu penentuannya adalah dari Tuhan. Menurut nabi Yeremia, selama kita hidup di dunia ini, hidup kita hendaknyamengikuti penentuan Tuhan, seperti cara tukang periuk membentuk ukiran-ukirandari tanah liat. Melalui kehendak dan kebijaksanaan-Nya, Tuhan ingin membentukkita dalam kata dan perbuatan kita setiap hari sehingga kita dapat mengalamibagaimana Ia menentukan hidup kita dari saat ke saat, sejak bangun pagi hinggakita tidur pada malam hari. Ini adalah cara hidup kita menuju kepadapenentuan-Nya yang terakhir atas diri kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... They were blessed with three children. Marthaonce shared her personal experience, that in their first years as a family, hervery kind husband really helped her to overcome her innate attitude which wasworry. She worried about many things that made her so reluctant to relate withother people. But as time passed, that worry was finally overcome. Today as Martha reminisces that past experience, shesees herself not only a person who was tormented by her own worry, but shefinds out that the profile of Martha in the Gospel had the same problem ofworry. Every human being and all of us have worries. Martha in the Gospel ismentioned at least in two instances when she was reminded by Jesus Christ ofher too much worries of the things that she was not supposed to have. She hadworries on the what would lead her to a fragile faith. She was reprimanded byJesus when she was so busy with works at home to serve Jesus, while her sisterMary sat near Jesus to listen to Him. She was also reminded by Jesus when shewas not sure that her brother Lazarus must had risen from the dead only by havingfaith in God. The prophet Jeremiah also worried when in spite offeeling grateful for his birth from his mother, he so worried about his being aman of God but who was so powerless in the face of his enemies. He seemed toloose faith in God. All these worrying experiences we have just mentioned giveus enough understanding that human anxiety and worry has weaknesses thatmust be overcome. If it is not overcome, it will become fear which is moredetrimental than to be a blessing for us. The nature of worry must be overcome and we canreplace it with our initiative and creativity in bringing goodness to our lifetogether. Let us remind ourselves, that with just one worry to occupy our mindand attention, we would have missed one opportunity to do good. When it isovercome, we will have more confidence in God who is with us all the time andworking within us. With just one worry to occupy our lives, we would have goneone some distances away from God who is actually with us. Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus would remind us withthis conviction: although we often worry about people and things that affectour lives, one thing that cannot escape from our attention is our beingattentive to look and to listen to God who reminds, who greets and whoilluminates our lives. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, we ask that our livesand works will always be in the service of Your mission on earth. Our Fatherwho art in heaven ... Ada seorangwanita bernama Marta, yang sudah kawin dengan seorang suami yang sangat sabar,penyayang dan bertanggung jawab. Mereka dikaruniai tiga anak. Marta berceritabahwa tahun-tahun pertama hidup berkeluarga, suaminya yang sangat baik itusangat membantunya untuk mengatasi sikap bawaannya yang selalu kawatir. Banyakhal ia kawatirkan sehingga membuatnya dirinya sangat tertutup. Tetapi denganberjalannya waktu, sifat itu akhirnya berubah. Ibu Marta melihat dirinya bukan sebagai satu-satunya manusia yang pernahsangat tersiksa oleh sifat kawatirnya, tetapi ia menemukan bahwa profil Martadi dalam Injil juga memiliki sifat kawatir yang sama. Jadi rasa kawatir adalahsangat manusiawi dan setiap manusia memilikinya. Marta di dalam Injil, palingkurang disebutkan dalam dua peristiwa ketika ia ditegur oleh Yesus Kristuskarena sifat kawatirnya yang berakibat pada penghayatan iman yang rapuh. Iapernah ditegur oleh Yesus ketika ia begitu sibuk dengan pekerjaan di rumahuntuk melayani Yesus yang bertamu, sementara Maria saudarinya duduk dekatYesus. Ia juga pernah ditegur oleh Yesus ketika ia tidak yakin bahwa saudaranyaLazarus pasti bangkit dari kematian hanya dengan jalan iman kepada Kristus.  Rasa kawatir juga ditunjukkan oleh nabi Yeremia, ketika ia memang menyukurikelahirannya ke dunia dari ibunya, tetapi ia sangat kawatir dengan hidupnyasebagai seorang abdi Allah yang tidak sanggup menghadapi musuh-musuhnya. Iasepertinya hilang keyakinan kepada Tuhan. Pengalaman-pengalaman kekawatiranyang kita sebutkan ini cukup memberikan kita gambaran bahwa sifat kawatirmemiliki kekurangan yang harus diatasi. Sebab kalau tidak diatasi, ia akanmenjadi ketakutan yang pasti lebih merugikan dari pada menjadi berkat. Sifat kawatir mesti diatasi supaya kita dapat menjadi orang yang terbukadan mengisi hidup kita dengan berbagai inisiatif serta kreativitas dalammembawa kebaikan bagi hidup bersama. There was a student studying in the city, washaving a phone call with his parents in the village. He told them about manytemptations that always bothered him, such as love relationship between boysand girls who were not enough mature, fights between friends, laziness ortiredness in study, and many other evil influences around him. His father whowas speaking with him then responded, "We in the village also have problemssuch as I argue many times with your mother, your brothers and sisters are lazyto work and study, and a very poor signal almost happens everyday." Our life everyday is full with distractions. Thisworld and every human person who inhabits in it becomes the field of workintended by Jesus Christ who was sent by the heavenly Father. He was willing todie for our goodness and salvation. Sin, evil influences, disturbances anddifficulties of any kind always make our lives not in peace. According to thetoday's reading, these are the weeds that disturb our lives as followers ofChrist. None of us can go free from the threat of these weeds. Even though you try to do good and always intend toplease those around you, but there are still some of them who dissatisfy,disagree, dislike, oppose, and envy at you. They are all weeds who have notolerance on you. However, Jesus never gives up or stops giving us His lovingattention. Jesus Christ does not abandon us, and the Holy Spirit faithfullyaccompanies us. This is the reality of this world. We cannot avoid this world's reality. We can onlystand on our feet, keep walking on our way, and must be able to equip ourselveswith all the commandments and guidance of the Lord. Like the prophet Jeremiahwho lamented that this real life is broken because of sin and it really hopesfor God's mercy, we also should have an optimistic view about a better life wecan achieve. This attitude surely will support our purpose of being at homewith one another and contribute our sharing of active participation for therenewal of our lives and the world we are in. Let us free ourselves from theview that sees this life merely a dream or an illusion that can lead people toa pessimistic attitude and hatred toward this real world. When people dream to escape from the real worldbecause they can't stand the situation right now, this maybe like a car thatpasses a long road where some times endures the rocky part and some timesenjoys the smooth part. The rear wheels continue to dream or fantasize as theysay: "We want to be in the front position in order to arrive first, buthow can we ...? Many of us often fall into such dream, which means that theyare not comfortable, not optimistic and not realistic about this life on thisworld. We hope we are not part of this type of people, because we are stillrealistic and optimistic about this life and because God Himself is always withus.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Ada seorang mahasiswa yang sedang kuliah di kota menelepon orangtuanya di kampung. Ia bercerita tentang banyaknya godaan yang mengganggunya,seperti pergaulan bebas laki-laki dan perempuan, perkelahian di antara teman,malas atau bosan belajar, dan banyak pengaruh jahat lainnya. Bapanya yangberbicara di telepon menanggapi, "Kami di kampung juga banyak gangguanseperti bertengkar dengan ibumu, adik-adikmu malas bekerja dan belajar dansinyal telepon yang hilang muncul sesukanya." Kehidupan kita sangat nyata penuh dengan gangguan. Dunia ini dan setiappribadi manusia yang mendiaminya menjadi pilihan Yesus Kristus yang diutus olehBapa ke dalam dunia. Ia rela mati demi kebaikan kita. Dosa, pengaruh jahat,gangguan dan kesulitan apa pun jenisnya selalu membuat hidup kita tidak damaidan tenang. Semua itu adalah lalang-lalang yang mengganggu hidup kita sebagaipengikut Kristus. Tidak ada seorang pun yang bebas dari gangguan apa pun didalam dunia ini.   Namun Yesus tidak pernah menyerah atau berhenti memperhatikan kita. Andaberusaha berbuat baik dan senantiasa teratur dalam setiap kondisimu, namun disekitarmu tetap saja ada orang yang tidak puas, tidak setuju, tidak menyukai,masa bodoh, dan iri dengan dirimu. Semua itu adalah lalang yang tidak pernahmembuatmu bebas. Namun Yesus Kristus tidak lepas kontrol atas dirimu, dan RohKudus setia mendampingimu. Itu adalah kenyataan di dunia ini.  Kenyataan di dunia ini tak bisa kita hindari. Kita hanya bisa mengambilsikap dan memiliki kemampuan yang dibekali dengan semua ajaran kebenaran dankebaikan dari Tuhan. Seperti nabi Yeremia yang meratapi kehidupan nyata iniyang rusak berantakan karena dosa dan sangat berharap belas kasih Allah, kitajuga berusaha untuk selalu optimis untuk kehidupan yang lebih baik. Sikap inimendukung rasa betah dan tetap berusaha aktif untuk membarui diri dan duniatempat kita berada. Orang mesti terlepas dari angan-angan, khayalan dan mimpiyang bisa membuatnya pesimis dan anti akan dunia nyata ini. Bermimpi untuk terlepas dari dunia nyata ini hanya karena tidak tahandengan situasinya saat ini, mungkin bisa disamakan dengan empat roda mobil yangberputar di atas bahu jalan berbatu dan aspal. Roda belakang terus sajabermimpi atau berkhayal: saya ingin berada di posisi depan biar tiba duluan,tapi kapan ya saya bisa... Banyak dari kita sering jatuh dalam angan-anganseperti ini, yang berarti bahwa mereka tidak betah, tidak optimis dan realististentang hidupnya di dunia ini. Semoga Anda dan saya tidak seperti ini, tetapitetap realistis dan optimis karena Tuhan ada bersama dengan kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... There was a friendship that was not between humanbeings, but between mustard seed and yeast. They both were kept in a shop, butit was not easy to locate them among the many big things being displayed. Onemorning the mustard seed said to his friend: "Hopefully today I have agood fortune." His friend responded, "What do you mean goodfortune?" Mustard seed replied: "Hopefully a buyer will buy me."They both agreed that they must indeed be useful when they are used by men. Both are immobile, wrapped securely in plastics, smallin size, and unnoticed among all other objects around them. If you were someonewho was in the shop but didn't want to buy anything, what you saw weredefinitely big and attractive things. You never took a slightest time to thinkand see small objects such as mustard seed or yeast. Only people who havespecific purpose for small objects, will try to find and buy them. Then theywill eventually be used according to those people's intentions. Jesus had made the Kingdom of God as the core of Histeaching to people who increasingly followed and heard Him day after day. Theyhad never received such teachings before from the time of Abraham and prophets.They never imagined what the kingdom of God looked like. However, Jesus was thepersonification of the Kingdom itself, He who was speaking and being with them.If there is a new teaching to be inserted into the hearts of people who arestill innocent, the teaching must start from the smallest and simplestbeginning. For those who are already full with knowledge and beliefs such asthe leaders of the Jews, things about the Kingdom of God must be taught withextreme complexity and patience. In using parables in His teaching, Jesus made use ofthings that were familiar and simple to the common understanding of the people,so that the complexity and the depth of divine message can be accepted by Hislisteners. If every day you read and listen to the word of God, this profile ofmustard seeds and yeast are enough to explain that this Word is preserved inyour mind and heart, and this will be the the power of God to renew yourself.If you regularly receive the Holy Communion, or regularly make yourconfessions, the profile of mustard seeds and yeast are enough to make you knowabout the growth of your faith though apparently hidden but real and will bearfruits in its proper time. The Lord puts His kingdom in us through variousevents and forms. All of these, even though hidden within us, are growing andnurtured by Him with or without our knowledge. When times of difficulty, trial,struggle, and sickness come, the power of His Kingdom will come out to help usspeak, act and behave.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Mereka berdua dijual di toko, tetapi letaknyatidak kentara. Pada suatu pagi si biji sesawi berkata kepada temannya:"Semoga hari ini saya bernasib baik." Temannya menanggapi,"Maksudmu nasib baik apa?". Biji sesawi menjawab: "Semoga adapembeli yang membeli aku." Mereka berdua sepakat bahwa mereka memang harusberguna ketika dipakai manusia.  Kedua benda ini tidak bergerak, dibungkus rapat, berukuran kecil, dantersembunyi dari semua benda lain di sekitarnya. Kalau Anda adalah seseorangyang sempat berada di toko namun tidak ingin membeli sesuatu, yang tampakpadamu ialah barang-barang yang besar dan mencolok. Anda tidak pernahmeluangkan waktu sedikit pun untuk berpikir dan melihat benda-benda kecilseperti biji sesawi atau ragi. Hanya orang yang memiliki maksud tertentu atasbenda-benda kecil itu, akan berusaha menemukan dan membelinya. Selanjutnyamereka akan digunakan sesuai dengan maksud orang tersebut. Yesus menjadikan kerajaan Allah sebagai inti pengajaran-Nya kepadaorang-orang yang kian hari kian bertambah mengikuti dan mendengar-Nya.Pengajaran seperti itu tidak pernah mereka dapatkan sebelumnya sejak zamanAbraham dan para nabi. Seperti apa kerajaan Allah itu tak pernah merekabayangkan. Padahal Yesus adalah personifikasi kerajaan itu sendiri yang sedangberbicara dan berada bersama mereka. Jika suatu pengajaran baru hendakdimasukkan ke dalam hati dan pribadi manusia yang masih polos, pengajaran ituharus mulai dari yang paling kecil dan sederhana. Bagi mereka yang sudah penuhdengan pengetahuan dan keyakinan lama seperti orang-orang Yahudi, hal tentangkerajaan Allah mesti diajarkan dengan sangat rumit dan penuh kesabaran. Banyak perumpamaan dipakai Yesus dengan benda-benda yang sudah biasa dansederhana supaya kerumitan itu dapat diuraikan. Jika setiap hari Anda membacadan dengarkan firman Tuhan, gambaran biji sesawi dan ragi ini cukup untukmenjelaskan bahwa firman yang Anda terima tersembunyi di dalam pikiran danhatimu, tetapi punya potensi untuk hidup yang membaharui dirimu. Jika Andamenerima Komuni Kudus secara rutin, atau dengan teratur melakukan pengakuandosa, profil biji sesawi dan ragi cukup memberimu kesadaran bahwa potensipertumbuhan iman sungguh nyata dan buah-buahnya tinggal dipanen pada masa yangtepat. Tuhan menaruh aspek-aspek kerajaan-Nya di dalam diri kita dalam anekaperistiwa dan bentuk. Semua itu meski tersembunyi di dalam diri kita, merekasedang bertumbuh dan dipelihara Tuhan meski sering di luar kesadaran kita. Didalam saat-saat sulit, pencobaan, perjuangan, dan pengungkapan diri kita, semuaitu akan tampil untuk membantu kita berbicara, berbuat dan bersikap.Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... There was an incident when a youngman who really loved the girl he has been following for a period of time, who wantedto express his will to marry her. The proposal was planned to be done on abridge over a wide and deep river, and witnessed by many people around there,with such a beautiful view. The young man brought a ring, a bounce of flowersand a precious gift. But before stating his most personal will, thebeautiful girl requested the young man to plunge into the river to prove herhis love. The young man immediately laid all things on the floor, took off hisshoes and jumped in. A moment later he returned to the bridge in a wetcondition and was about to declare his real will. But how shocked the young manand everyone around on the unpredicted reaction of the girl who rejected theyoung man's marriage proposal. She indeed ignored the young man who hassacrificed all to prepare everything and jumped into the river. This is an example of a futile sacrifice. Both thegirl and the young man have already made sacrifices, but the outcome wasnothing. There are so many experiences of vain sacrifice that are common in ourlives. There were people who have worked with good will, but they were notsupported by human or material resources, so they found only futility. Therewere those who have worked or done something with the support of sufficient oreven adequate resources, but they did not achieve the goal planned, which wasalso a futility. Some people were more likely to be relaxed, unfocused,lazy and delayed to work on what they supposed to make to its completeness,which eventually came as an outcome which was just a futility. Some of thosewho have done some sacrifices and works but only on certain occasions, thenthey would not continue any more the work. Actually, what it really needed wasconsistency and continuity. This was also a futile sacrifice. There are stillmany other similar examples. Today we are taught to overcome all those futile worksor sacrifices and we are led to embrace a wise sacrifice. A wise sacrificerequires us to focus on the highest goal that we want to achieve. All oursacrifices should help us to achieve that goal. For us believers and followersof Christ, our goal is primarily the kingdom of God. King Solomon asked forwisdom from that Kingdom and God gave it to him. We as followers of Christ havebeen called to that highest goal, therefore we sacrifice all our efforts andworks to achieve it.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O God, look and bless us, so that with thisSunday celebration we may become Your children who are diligent in the paththat leads us to You. Our Father who art in heaven ... Ada suatu kejadian ketika seorang pemuda yang sangat mencintai gadisyang ditaksirnya sekian lama, ingin melamar wanita muda tersebut. Lamaran ituingin dilakukan di sebuah jembatan di atas sungai yang luas dan dalam, sertadisaksikan banyak orang di sekitar situ, dengan pemandangan yang begitu indah.Si pemuda membawa cincin, bunga dan sebuah bingkisan berharga. Tetapi sebelum menyatakan lamarannya, gadis cantik itu meminta supayapemuda itu terjun ke sungai untuk membuktikan cintanya itu. Si pemuda segeramenggeletakkan semua barang bawaannya, membuka sepatu dan terjun. Sesaatkemudian ia kembali ke jembatan dalam kondisi basah kuyup dan hendak menyatakanlamarannya. Tetapi alangkah kagetnya pemuda itu dan semua orang di sekitarnya,ternyata gadis itu menolak lamaran pemuda yang sudah berkorban menyiapkansegala sesuatu dan terjun ke sungai. Yang terjadi dengan kisah itu adalah contoh sebuah pengorbanan yangsia-sia. Baik gadis itu maupun si pemuda terlanjur melakukan pengorbanan,tetapi hasil akhirnya kosong. Ada begitu banyak pengalaman tentang pengorbananyang sia-sia yang ada di sekitar kita. Ada orang yang bekerja dengan modalkemauan yang baik, tetapi mereka tidak didukung oleh sumber daya baik manusiamaupun materi pendukung, maka pekerjaan itu sia-sia saja. Ada yang bekerja atauberbuat dengan dukungan sumber daya cukup bahkan memadai, tetapi tidak mencapaitujuan yang sudah direncanakan, itu pun pekerjaan yang sia-sia. Sebagian orang lebih cenderung santai, tidak fokus, malas dan menunda-nundauntuk bekerja dengan maksimal, akhirnya pekerjaan dan hasilnya yang diinginkanmenjadi sia-sia saja. Sebagian lagi yang memberikan pengorbanannya dalamberusaha dan bekerja namun hanya dalam kesempatan tertentu saja, sedangkan padakesempatan selanjutnya pekerjaan tersebut berhenti. Padahal yang sangatdiperlukan ialah konsistensi dan kontinuitas. Ini juga merupakan suatupengorbanan yang sia-sia. Masih ada banyak contoh lainnya yang serupa. Hari ini kita diajarkan untuk mengatasi semua pekerjaan atau pengorbananyang sia-sia itu dengan suatu pengorbanan yang bijaksana. Suatupengorbanan  yang bijaksana menuntut kitauntuk fokus kepada tujuan tertinggi yang hendak kita capai. Segala pengorbanankita hanya untuk mencapai tujuan itu. Bagi kita orang beriman dan para pengikutKristus, tujuan kita terutama ialah Kerajaan Allah. Raja Salomo memintakebijaksanaan dari Kerajaan itu dan Allah memberikan itu kepadanya. Kitasebagai pengikut Kristus sudah terpanggil untuk tujuan yang tertinggi itu, olehkarena itu kita berkorban sekuat-kuatnya untuk mencapainya. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Let us think for a moment in the light of this illustration. Youarrived home from an outside need. When the door was opened, you immediatelyfind a stranger sitting at the dining table, occupying the seat you normallyuse, and really enjoyed the dishes. What were your thoughts and feelings aboutthe incident? Huff! How dare that person entered my house without permission! That illustration describes how important and verypersonal for each of us entitled to the position that belongs to us. We havemany positions in which we stand, sit, lie down and being present at a moment.Our basic human rights justify the possessions that we have, especially to theplaces or spaces that belong to us, and there are basic human obligations torespect them too. If someone intentionally forces or pressures us to be out ofour own position, it is here that tension will definitely explode. Thereactions we usually give to this situation would be strong and perhaps violentrefusal. It is normally unacceptable for someone to allow his position ofwhatever degree to be taken up by others without using any good manner orcertain moral standard. We all understand that in this world in order to havea position, there is the right of every person to have it on one side, and theavailability of such position on the other, which is to be the obligation ofothers to provide and respect it. Today we encounter an example of thescriptures about two apostles, namely James and John, who with the help oftheir mother, wanted a special position for each of them in the kingdom of God.It is not wrong if they dared to claim their rights, because that was indeedthe price of the following of Christ. However, the Lord Jesus emphasized that this claim ofright is not an automatic thing to happen. A claim for right can only begranted if it is compatible with the obligation of other people done. A claimfor right must not be a blind act, meaning to say, it is only an independentact. Jesus teaches us today that our basic right to obtain a place in thekingdom of God really depends on these following conditions: We must first carry out our basic obligation, which isto drink the bitter cup which Jesus had already drunk when He was still onearth. It is a way of self-denial through a humble life, enduring varioushardships and suffering. God the Father, who is pleased with the act ofself-denial, will provide us with an appropriate position in His kingdom. Oneof the most concrete ways of self-denial is to serve others with selfless loveand not demanding to be served. Saint Paul in his second letter to the Corinthianscalls it as the death of our body, which always wants to be prioritized on thebasis of lust and desire of the flesh. The death of the body gives life to thespirit of life.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, purify our hearts from every desireof the flesh and lust for power, that we may become your genuine faithful. OurFather who art in heaven ... In the name of the Father ...

Saat pintu dibuka, Anda langsung menemukan seorang asing sedang dudukdi meja makan, menempati kursi yang biasa Anda pakai, dan sangat menikmatihidangan yang ada. Apa pikiran dan perasaan Anda tentang kejadian itu? Huff!Beraninya orang itu memasuki rumah tanpa ijin ya! Ilustrasi itu menggambarkan betapa penting dan sangat pribadi bahwa kitamasing-masing berhak atas posisi yang menjadi milik kita. Kita memiliki banyakposisi entah saat kita berdiri, duduk, berbaring, dan berada. Itu adalah hakasasi bahwa tempat dan ruang yang melingkupi kita adalah hak milik kita. Jikaseseorang sengaja mendesak atau menekan kita keluar dari posisi tersebut, pastiterjadi ketegangan. Reaksi yang kita berikan biasanya keras dan menolak. Tidakmudah bagi setiap orang untuk melepaskan hak milik posisinya diambil orang laindengan tidak melalui suatu cara yang layak dan beradab. Jadi di dunia ini keinginan dan kenyataan untuk mempunyai posisi sudahmenjadi pemahaman bersama bahwa setiap pribadi berhak atasnya di satu pihak danketersediaan posisi tersebut di lain pihak, yang menjadi kewajiban dari oranglain untuk menyediakannya. Kita mendengar kejadian dua rasul kakak-beradikYakobus dan Yohanes, dengan bantuan ibunya, menginginkan posisi keduanya didalam kerajaan Allah. Tidak salah jika mereka meng-claim haknya itu, karena memang itu adalah harga dari mengikutiKristus.  Namun pada saat yang sama Tuhan Yesus mengajarkan bahwa penuntutan hakbukan suatu hal yang otomatis jadi. Suatu penuntutan hak hanya dapatterfasilitasi jika hak itu tepat dengan kewajiban yang dilakukan orang lain.Suatu penuntutan hak tidak boleh sebagai suatu tindakan buta, artinya hanyadipandang sebagai satu-satunya tindakan yang berdiri sendiri. Yesus mengajarkanbahwa hak dasar kita untuk mendapatkan tempat di dalam kerajaan Allahbergantung pada syarat ini: Kita harus menjalankan dahulu suatu kewajiban dasar, yaitu meminum cawanpahit yang juga diminum oleh Yesus. Itu adalah cara penyangkalan diri melaluihidup yang rendah hati, menanggung aneka kesulitan dan penderitaan. Allah Bapayang berkenan atas semua penyangkalan diri itu, bakal menyediakan posisi yangpantas bagi kita di dalam kerajaan-Nya. Salah satu cara penyangkalan diri yangpaling konkret dilakukan ialah melayani tanpa pamrih dan bukan dilayani. SantoPaulus dalam surat keduanya kepada jemaat di Korintus menyebutnya sebagaikematian atas tubuh kita yang selalu ingin diutamakan atas dasar nafsu dankeinginan daging. There is a question that is often raised to the people and alsoto the priests which goes like this: "Why in the moments of teaching,reflection, and homily, the listeners are not quite comfortable in listening toit but they are more often found sleepy? Just look at the time the priest givesa homily in the holy Mass, quite a lot of people who are sleepy." There are so many reasons. Weaknesses or deficienciescan be found out from the priest side and the people side as well. The weaknesspoint can be from the preacher himself or can be from his listeners. Quite anumber of people say that the listeners apparently can hear what is beingpreached or proclaimed but they do not understand it. This is considered as oneof the reasons why they are easilly bored and sleepy. These two mental andintellectual abilities, listening and understanding, play important roles inthe growth of our mental, spiritual, and social life. Listening is an activity that is supported by humanears, the instrument that is the first to receive messages that come to us.This activity is the same as seeing with the eyes and feeling with the skin.The messages that come and we are able to hear them are still raw. Forinstance, we feel a drop of water on our skin. This feeling does not meananything before it is processed in the brain so that it becomes a thought or anidea. Only then can an understanding occur in us. A new understanding is made fromthe listening process which is then made up by the mind, which eventuallyshapes new attitude, behavior and way of life. That is why Jesus is very firm in saying that a goodperson is the one who can hear and understand the Word of God that isproclaimed to him. If he only listens to it, he does not have a completegoodness from God. His understanding will never happen if he does not hear theWord of God. Such person with adequate ability to listen and understand is likethe good soil, that is when the Word of God comes to him, it will grow and bearmuch fruit in his life. In the activity of hearing and understanding we mustbe able to avoid some of these things: our hearts and minds seem to be like bigand small streets where the word of God falls there, then birds or chickenscome to eat it, and finally the word of God does not grow. We seem also likerocks with so little soil on it, and where the word of God grows on it, it doesnot take roots, and eventually withers when the sun becomes hot and it dies.Our hearts and minds seem like thorns and shrubs, then when the word of Godgrows, it will be crushed and threatened to death. By avoiding all thosedefects in ourselves, what remains is we as the good and fertile soil. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Adapertanyaan yang sering diutarakan kepada umat dan juga para imam yang bunyinyakira-kira begini: mengapa di dalam sesi pengajaran, renungan, dan homili, parapendengar tidak cukup betah dalam mendengar namun mereka lebih sering kedapatanmengantuk? Lihat saja pada waktu imam memberikan homili dalam misa, cukupbanyak umat yang mengantuk.  Ada begitu banyak alasan. Kesalahan atau kekurangan dapat diuraikan dandidaftar, baik itu dari pihak imam maupun umat. Baik itu dari pihak pewartamaupun dari pendengar. Cukup banyak orang mengatakan bahwa umat atau pendengarrupanya dapat mendengarkannya tetapi tidak mengerti. Ini dipandang sebagaisalah satu penyebab mereka mengantuk. Dua kemampuan intelektual ini, mendengardan mengerti, sama-sama berperan penting dalam pertumbuhan kejiwaan,kerohanian, dan hidup sosial seseorang. Mendengar merupakan kegiatan yang ditopang oleh indra telinga, oleh karenaitu harus menjadi yang pertama menerima pesan yang datang. Kegiatan ini samaseperti melihat dengan mata dan merasakan dengan kulit. Pesan yang datang dandidengar masih mentah. Kita merasakan sentuhan seperti terkena air pada kulitkita. Perasaan ini belum berarti apa-apa sebelum ia diproses di dalam otaksehingga menjadi sebuah pikiran. Di sini baru bisa terjadi pemahaman ataupengertian. Sebuah pengertian baru dibuat dari proses mendengar yang kemudiandiolah oleh pikiran, yang akhirnya membentuk sikap, perilaku dan cara hidupyang baru pula. Itulah sebabnya Yesus sangat tegas mengatakan bahwa seorang pribadi yangbaik ialah ia yang dapat mendengar dan mengerti Sabda Tuhan yang disampaikankepadanya. Kalau ia hanya mendengar, ia baru setengah baik. Ia juga tidak bisalangsung mengerti jika belum mendengar Sabda itu. Orang seperti ini diumpamakansebagai tanah yang baik, yaitu kemampuannya untuk mendengar dan mengerti secarabaik, sehingga ketika Sabda Tuhan datang kepadanya Sabda itu akan tumbuh danberbuah banyak di dalam hidupnya. Dalam proses mendengar dan mengerti itu kita mesti dapat menghindaribeberapa hal ini: hati dan pikiran kita seperti jalanan besar dan kecil di manasabda Tuhan jatuh di situ lalu burung dan ayam datang memakannya, akhirnyasabda Tuhan tidak tumbuh. Kita juga seperti bebatuan dengan tanah tipis diatasnya, di mana sabda Tuhan tumbuh tapi tidak berakar, akhirnya layu ketikakena panas matahari dan mati. Hati dan pikiran kita seperti duri-duri dan semakbelukar, di mana sabda Tuhan akan terhimpit dan terancam mati. Denganmenghindari semua itu, yang tinggal adalah diri kita sebagai tanah yang subur. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... There were three girls who fell in love with a young man who was of theirage. Each girl always tried to win the heart of the young man with her best wayof appearance. Sometimes they competed unfairly in the manner that one tendedto highlight the weaknesses of her other friends. Sometimes they competed in ahealthy and positive way in order to show the real personality each of them. The young man also had his own way to appear nicely toeach girl who was so fond of him. As time went on, each of them became boredand tired. The three girls were confused about who really deserved to be thebest and chosen, because it was not possible for all three of them to bechosen. The three of them agreed to discuss about this. They finally concludedthat the young man would definitely have his own way to understand them and tochoose only one whom he loved. This illustration shows how love is expressed. Aself-expression certainly has a peculiar quality to make other people havetheir impressions on it. A good impression would normally develop the feelingof attraction. A guitarist appears so talented, then those who have passion formusic would be attracted to him. A person's self-expression aims to make otherpeople understand about him and they normally support him. If this is a kind of human attractiveness that deservesappreciation by all of us, it should be all the more the attractiveness ofGod's love that always move our hearts to be in love with Him and to love ourfellow brothers and sisters as well. The Lord first revealed Himself to ushumans. The quality and power of the expressions of His love are beyond the oneof ours, simply because God incarnates in us. Through incarnation He purifies,empowers and perfects our lives in the world. He reveals Himself in order tosanctify the world and all of us. To the Israelites, God had revealed Himself as theLord who was so kind and merciful to them for their obedience and faithfulness.But He also became the Lord who had punished this people because of theirungratefulness and sinfulness. Jesus also made His listeners understand Himthrough His various ways of preaching or teaching. He uses parables, so thatHis listeners understand that He is so concerned about those who are humble,suffering, alienated and persecuted. He also opened the mind of those who aregreat, powerful, rich, proud, and smart but they were not willing to accept andunderstand Him. So we have a duty to be always ready to understand theLord who reveals Himself through His words and deeds that help our faith grow.But we also have the same important task to make our neighbors understand usfor the witnesses of our faith. This is also the way we serve others. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, help us to always havegood and true understanding about You and our neighbors. Ada tigagadis jatuh cinta kepada satu pemuda yang hampir seumur dengan mereka.Masing-masing gadis berusaha tampil sebaik mungkin untuk memenangkan pujaanhatinya itu. Kadang mereka bersaing kurang sehat karena yang satu menonjolkankejelekan temannya yang lain. Kadang-kadang mereka bersaing sehat dan positifseperti menunjukkan siapa dirinya sebenarnya.  Pemuda itu juga mempunyai strategi untuk tampil secara positif kepadamasing-masing gadis yang menyukainya. Sekian waktu berjalan, masing-masing darimereka menjadi bosan dan lelah. Khususnya ketiga gadis itu, masing-masing darimereka justru bingung tentang siapa sesungguhnya yang pantas dipilih, karenatidak mungkin ketiga-tiganya dipilih. Mereka bertiga berdiskusi tentang ini,dan mereka akhirnya sepakat bahwa pemuda itu mempunyai caranya sendiri untukmengerti dan memilih salah satu yang dicintainya.  Ilustrasi ini menunjukkan seperti apa cinta itu diungkapkan. Ungkapan diriseseorang tentu memiliki kekhasan sehingga orang lain yang mendapatkan kesannyasesuai dengan daya tariknya. Seorang pemain gitar tampil begitu berbakat, makamereka yang mempunyai kesukaan dengan musik tertarik kepadanya. Ungkapan diriseseorang itu bertujuan untuk membuat orang lain mengerti tentang dia danmendukung dia. Kalau hal ini merupakan tindakan manusia yang layak untuk diapresiasi,justru tindakan kasih Tuhan yang jauh lebih meyakinkan dan menarik perhatiankita. Ia telah lebih dahulu mengungkapkan diri-Nya kepada manusia. Kualitas dankekuatan ungkapan cintanya jauh melebihi ungkapan manusia, karena Tuhan ituberinkarnasi. Ia membuat yang suci, mulia dan sempurna masuk ke dalam hidupkita di dunia. Ia mengungkapkan diri untuk menguduskan dunia dan kita semua.  Kepada bangsa Israel, Allah mengungkapkan diri-Nya sebagai Tuhan yangberbaik hati ketika umat-Nya taat dan beriman dengan benar, tetapi juga Tuhanyang menghukum kalau mereka melawan dan berbuat dosa. Yesus juga membuat parapendengar-Nya mengerti Dia melalui pengajaran-Nya. Ia memakaiperumpamaan-perumpamaan, agar mereka mengerti bahwa Ia sangat memperhatikanmereka yang kecil, rendah hati, menderita, terasing dan teraniaya. Ia jugamembuka pemahaman kepada orang-orang besar, penguasa, kaya, congkak, namunmereka tidak rela menerima dan mengerti Dia.  Jadi kita memiliki tugas untuk selalu ingin mengerti Tuhan yangmengungkapkan diri-Nya melalui firman-Nya dan ungkapan iman kita. Tetapi kitajuga mempunyai tugas yang sama pentingnya yaitu membuat sesama kita dapatmengerti kita. Ini adalah juga cara kita melayani orang lain. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... "Why does the bible say that love is demanding?" Agirl once expressed this to her boyfriend who was always ready to pick her upevery time she went to work and came from work as well. The young man answeredher confidently, "If someone is moved by love, then he is happy to dothings with good ways to achieve a good purpose. He is not forced to dothat." Their relationship grew well and healthty because their motivationis love. Today we celebrate the feast day of Saint MaryMagdalene. This Jewish woman at the time of Jesus was known to be very close toJesus. She was the first person to witness Jesus rose from death. This veryclose relationship should be a lesson for us about love. Our point ofreflection here is the love of Jesus, which is to offer Himself for thegoodness and salvation of His fellow men and women. When its right time and place come, the act of lovedemands. At most, perhaps there is 90 percent of its power encourages someoneto love such as being patient, understanding, kind and generous. The remaining10 percent perhaps shown in doubt, fear, reluctance, confusion, and lack ofunderstanding. Mary Magdalene in that particular moment of her life respondedto the love of Jesus in an imperfect condition, but she continued to followJesus with all her strength and will. The climax  of her spiritual experience was when she wasso tremble in fear to find out that the tomb of Jesus was empty, and she wasrather difficult to recognize the risen Jesus until Jesus revealed Himself toher, then she immediately recognized the risen Lord. Mary Magdalene certainly had learned a lot about thelove of Christ. In various occasions after following Christ, she lived by thatlove she had taken from her Teacher. In general, she was faithful to Jesus, forinstance she was in Jesus' company along the way of the cross until His death,then she grieved over the empty tomb and eventually found Him alive as therisen one. However, another prominent experience of love that strengthened herspiritual life was the biblical prove of her courage and joyfulness inproclaiming to rest of the Lord's followers, as she said "I have seen theLord". In doing so, Mary Magdalene indeed merited her beingan apostle of Jesus who was the true paschal messenger to the first Church inJerusalem, and all of us in this world. Today she gives us a challenge, inthese words: "I had taken my part from the love of our Master, JesusChrist, so now it is your turn. Don't let the precious fragrance of the love ofJesus Christ go in vain without being experienced. There is a simple questionfor our reflection that may help us to experience the closeness with the Lord:Do you experience right now the love of the Lord Jesus Christ? Let'spray. "Mengapa kitab suci berkata bahwa cinta kasih itu menuntut?"Pertanyaan ini dari seorang pemudi terhadap pacarnya yang selalu mengantar danmenjemputnya setiap kali pergi dan pulang dari kerja. Pemuda itu menjawabsingkat, "Kalau seseorang didorong oleh cinta, maka ia bahagia untukmelalukan apa yang bertujuan untuk kebaikan. Ia tidak terpaksa untuk melakukanitu." Benar sekali, hubungan mereka tumbuh dengan baik dan indah.  Hari ini kita memperingati Santa Maria Magdalena. Ia adalah seorangperempuan Yahudi pada zaman Yesus dikenal sangat dekat dengan Yesus. Ia adalahorang pertama yang menyaksikan Yesus bangkit. Hubungan yang amat dekat inidapat menjadi pembelajaran cinta bagi kita. Patokan kita ialah cinta kasihYesus, yaitu persembahan diri bagi kebaikan dan keselamatansahabat-sahabat-Nya.  Pada saat dan waktu yang tepat perbuatan cinta itu menuntut. Sebagianbesar, mungkin 90 persen, cinta itu mendorong seseorang untuk mencintai,sementara sisanya 10 persen mungkin berisi keraguan, takut, malu, bingung, dankurang paham. Maria Magdalena membalas semua cinta kasih Yesus dalam kondisiyang tidak sempurna. Puncaknya ialah ketika ia ketakutan dalam mencari jenazahYesus di makam, dan agak sulit mengenali Yesus yang bangkit sebelum Yesussendiri memanggil namanya. Dalam situasi seperti inilah, cinta itu cenderungmenuntut, yang dengan itu memengaruhi supaya Maria segera mengakui bahwa ituadalah Tuhan yang bangkit. Maria Magdalena tentu sudah belajar banyak tentang cinta kasih Kristus.Dalam aneka perbuatannya setelah mengikuti Kristus, ia ungkapkan cinta kasihitu yang telah diambil dari Gurunya. Umumnya, ia memiliki kesetiaan dalammengikuti Kristus hingga mendampingi-Nya saat Gurunya itu wafat di salib, laluia bersedih mencari-Nya di makam dan akhirnya menemukan Dia. Namun yang palingmenonjol aspek cinta kasih yang diambil dari Yesus Kristus ialah ia sungguhmemiliki suka cita, keberanian, semangat, kebenaran dan ketulusan untukmewartakan kepada rekan-rekannya, bahwa “Aku telah melihat Tuhan”.  Dengan bertindak seperti ini, Maria Magdalena ingin menginspirasi pararasul dan kita semua yang mendengarkan firman ini, seolah-olah menantang kita:ayolah, aku sudah ambil bagianku dari cinta kasih Guru kita, Yesus Kristus,maka kini giliran kalian untuk mengambil bagian dari cinta kasih Yesus itu.Jangan biarkan keharuman cinta kasih Yesus Kristus itu sia-sia saja, tanpadisukai dan diambil. Pertanyaan sebagai tantangan dan refleksi bagi kita ialah:Anda cocok untuk aspek cinta kasih apa yang dapat Anda ambil dari YesusKristus? Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... In many political traditions a staff or stick is used as a symbol ofpower. We remember Moses who used a staff to show that the power of God was atwork in him, when he was in his mission to lead the people of God to where theLord led them. Kings and presidents of various countries also use staff whichis the symbol of the power they hold. In the Church, the Pope and Bishops havealso staff with the similar meaning. The staff that is made of wood or metal refers to thepower or authority of the person who uses it. Even a stick of wood which isused by father or mother at home is enough to give us understanding that ifchildren violate the rules, they will be subjected to punishment be beaten withthe stick. Seeing what this staff or stick signifies, now we can furtherunderstand why  in the scriptures Godalways reveals His power through the symbolic staff being used by His chosenfigures who had so important duty to do. Today we listen to the Lord who says through theprophecy of Micah in the first reading, that He Himself shepherded His peoplewith His staff. Jesus the good shepherd also carried out the pastoral works byusing the high priest's staff, which until now has been symbolized by the Popeand Bishops. With that staff, the duty as leader and shepherd have itslegitimacy and strength to demand obedience and reliance from people who aresubjected to it. The staff of God has its powerful function in thepurification and deliverance of men and women believers from the power ofdarkness and sin. Satan, the ruler of darkness, when confronted with the powerof God that is symbolized by the staff, he will fall trembling and fear. Thatwas evident in every action of Jesus who was always present through words anddeeds, which instantly frightened the Satan who asked not to be tortured. Thisis the role of to the staff of God, that is to cast all our sins and to bethrown into the sea, says the prophet Micah. So we must look at the staff when it is shown to us insuch manner being held by the person in power, it is made as a support when westand, or when it is used to emphasize on something so important. Jesus referredto all the power that existed in Him, when He spoke that His true disciples andapostles were indeed His mother and His brothers. This statement of Jesussurely contains the teaching that is full with authority. This teaching isabout to carry out God's will which is to be the main task of every follower ofChrist. The staff of Jesus until now is in the hands of the Pope and the Bishopsof the Church. We must listen and follow our Holy Father and our Bishop.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, may our fidelity and obedience tothe Church always be strong and lasting especially through our obedience to theHoly Father and Bishop. Tradisi dalambanyak budaya politik menjadikan tongkat sebagai simbol kekuasaan. Kitamengingat Musa memakai tongkat untuk menampilkan kuasa Allah yang bekerja dalamdirinya untuk memimpin bangsa dan umat Allah. Para raja dan presidennegara-negara juga memakai tongkat dengan makna simbolik kekuasaan yang merekamiliki. Di dalam Gereja, tongkat uskup juga memiliki makna serupa.  Tongkat yang terbuat dari bahan entah kayu entah logam sangat melekatdengan kekuasaan atau otoritas orang yang memakainya. Bahkan rotan ataupotongan kayu lurus yang dipakai bapak atau ibu di rumah cukup memberikanpemahaman bahwa jika anak-anak melanggar aturan hukumannya ialah pukulan dengankayu itu. Dalam semua pemandangan dengan tongkat ini, kita dapat mengerti lebihlanjut mengapa Tuhan selalu mengungkapkan di dalam kitab suci kuasa-Nya yangdisimbolkan dengan tongkat.  Ia berkata dalam nubuat Mikha dalam bacaan pertama hari ini bahwa Iamenggembalakan umat-Nya dengan tongkat-Nya. Yesus sang gembala yang baik jugamenjalankan tugas penggembalaan itu dengan memakai tongkat imam agung, yanghingga saat ini disimbolkan pada Paus dan para uskup. Dengan tongkat itu,tugas-tugas sebagai pemimpin dan gembala memiliki legitimasi dan kekuatan untukmendapatkan ketaatan atau kepatuhan dari orang-orang yang dipimpin. Tongkat kuasa Tuhan, memiliki fungsi untuk suatu pemurnian dan pembebasanmanusia dari kuasa kegelapan dan dosa. Setan dan penguasa kegelapan ketikaberhadapan dengan kuasa Allah yang dilambangkan dengan tongkat, ia menjadiketakutan. Itu terbukti dalam setiap tindakan Yesus yang selalu hadir melaluikata-kata dan hardikan, yang langsung membuat para setan menjadi takut danmemohon untuk tidak disiksa. Berkat tongkat kuasa Tuhan itu, segala dosa kitadapat dicampakkan ke dalam dasar laut, demikian kata nabi Mikha. Jadi kita mesti memandang tongkat saat ditunjukkan kepada kita apakah dalamposisi dipegang, dijadikan penopang pada saat berdiri, atau saat menunjukkandan menegaskan sesuatu dalam suatu proses pengajaran. Yesus menunjuk dengansegala kuasa yang ada pada-Nya, ketika Ia mengajarkan bahwa para murid danrasul sesungguhnya adalah ibu-Nya, dan saudara-saudara-Nya. Penegasan ituberisi suatu ajaran yang penuh kewibawaan dan prinsip. Ajaran itu ialah bahwamelaksanakan kehendak Allah merupakan tugas utama setiap pengikut Kristus.Tongkat kuasa Yesus itu sampai detik ini berada pada tangan Paus dan Uskup ditempat kita masing-masing. Kita harus mendengar dan mengikuti Bapa Suci danUskup kita. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa... Micah 6: 1-4.6-8; Rs psalm 50: 5-6.8-9.16bc.17.21.23; Matius 12: 38-42.UNFAITHFULNESS The theme for our meditation today is: Unfaithfulness.There was a man who got a job from the company to work outside the city forthree to six months. During this time he did not return to his home and family.Communication with his wife and children was done via online messages and videocalls. When he returned home after finishing the job, hefound out that almost everything in the house was normal and good, except forhis two beloved dogs who were no longer familiar with him. The two dogs reallyignored him, even though he wanted to play with them. His youngest son, eightyears old, said this to him: "The problem is that you haven't been closeand played with them, so they have become strangers to you." Infidelity happens in our relationship with oneanother is caused by many factors, and one of them is that people are not closeto each other, they do not communicate, there is no news shared and there is nosharing of attention between them. This also happens between us and the Lord.There is a long history about people who have been unfaithful to God which inthe end they must be subjected to the punishment imposed on them because oftheir infidelity. The Lord Jesus was sent by the Father into the world to bringthem back to faithfulness and true faith. The people of God, and especially theIsraelites, were expected to be the first to renew this broken relationship andto walk on the new way initiated by Jesus Christ. However they did not even want to know and acknowledgeJesus. They asked for signs that could help them to believe in Jesus Christ.This is what made Jesus gave them a very strong reaction. They openly opposedGod by rejecting and not recognizing that Jesus was sent by God whom theybelieved according to the faith of their fathers. This is a great sin ofunfaithfulness. They preferred such worldly things like money, position, fleshpleasure, social status, fame, then God alone and His teachings brought by Jesusof Nazareth was not their priority. According to Jesus Christ, this sin is asin against the Holy Spirit, and it will never be forgiven. The temptation to deny God by making Him not ourpriority in life is really very big. In general there are three greattemptations that threaten us any time and anywhere in this world namely money,power and flesh. The prophet Micah said that we need to be sincere aboutourselves: whether we can overcome the temptation or we are always overcome byit, the world around us is the witness. If we stay with God and let ourselvesto be guided by the Holy Spirit, we are the ones who overcome temptation. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Our almighty God, may Your Spirit help usto be faithful always in the way of Your Son Jesus Christ, and keep us from alltemptations that cause us to be away from Your path. Mikha 6: 1-4.6-8; Mazmur tg 50: 5-6.8-9.16bc.17.21.23; Matius 12: 38-42.KETIDAKSETIAAN Tema renungan kita pada hari ini ialah: Ketidaksetiaan. Ada seorang lelakimendapat tugas dari perusahaan untuk bekerja jauh dari rumah dan di luar kotaselama tiga sampai enam bulan. Selama waktu tersebut ia tidak kembali ke rumahdan keluarganya. Komunikasi dengan sang istri dan anak-anaknya tetap dilakukanmelalui pesan-pesan singkat online dan telepon video.  Pada saat ia kembali ke rumah setelah tugas tersebut, hampir semua keadaandi rumah normal dan baik, kecuali dua anjing kesayangannya yang sudah tidakakrab lagi dengannya. Kedua anjing sangat tidak menghiraukannya, meskipun iaingin bermain-main dengan mereka. Anak bungsunya yang berusia delapan tahunberkata kepadanya: "Masalahnya Bapak sudah lama tidak dekat dan bermaindengan mereka, maka mereka menjadi asing dengan Bapak."   Banyak faktor di dalam hidup kita yang menjadi penyebab sikap tidak setiadi antara kita, dan salah satunya ialah orang-orang tidak dekat satu sama lain,tidak berkomunikasi, tidak ada berita dan tidak ada jalinan perhatian di antaramereka. Hal ini juga terjadi antara manusia dengan Tuhan Allah. Ada sejarahpanjang dan banyak tentang manusia yang tidak setia dengan Tuhan yang berakibatpada hukuman dijatuhkan kepada mereka yang tidak setia. Tuhan Yesus diutus Bapake dalam dunia untuk mengembalikan mereka kepada kesetiaan dan iman yang benar.Umat beriman, dan khususnya Israel diharapkan sebagai yang pertama memperbaikihubungan yang telah rusak ini. Tetapi mereka malah tidak mau mengenal dan mengakui Yesus. Mereka memintatanda-tanda yang menurut mereka harus membuat mereka percaya. Ini yang membuatYesus melawan mereka dengan tegas. Mereka dengan terang-terangan melawan Tuhandengan menolak dan tidak mengakui bahwa Yesus adalah wujud Allah sendiri yangmereka percaya. Ini adalah dosa ketidaksetiaan yang amat besar. Mereka lebihmemilih materi, uang, posisi, kenikmatan daging, status sosial, ketenaran, laluTuhan dilupakan. Menurut Yesus sendiri, dosa ini adalah dosa melawan Roh Kudus,dan tidak dapat diampuni.  Godaan untuk menyangkal Tuhan dengan menjadikannya bukan utama danprioritas di dalam hidup kita sungguh sangat besar. Pada umumnya ada tigagodaan besar yang mengancam kita setiap saat dan di mana saja, yaitu harta,kekuasaan dan nafsu kedagingan.  Nubuatnabi Mikha mengatakan bahwa kita perlu tulus tentang diri kita: apakah kitadapat mengalahkan godaan itu atau sebaliknya kita yang selalu dikalahkanolehnya, karena dunia di sekeliling kita menjadi saksinya. Kalau kita tetapbersama Tuhan dan memberikan diri untuk dibimbing Roh Kudus, kita yangmengalahkan godaan. Marilah kita berdoa.Dalam nama Bapa ... Tuhan maha kuasa, semoga Roh-Mu membantu kami untuksenantiasa setia di jalan Putra-Mu Yesus Kristus, dan jauhkanlah kami darisegala godaan yang menyebabkan kami semakin jauh dari jalan-Mu. A high schoolstudent got praise and gifts from his parents for achieving best grades for allthe subjects in his study. This somehow surprised everyone in the familybecause they still remembered of his grades at the beginning of school thatwere far from expectation. He even got a number of red marks.                                              Why did he change so quickly with his studyachievements when he was in the second and third grade? Did he cheat duringexam in order to get satisfactory grades? These are the common questions thatwere always addressed to him. To those who asked these questions, the boyalways answered wisely, as he said: "Every friend of mine who gets bettergrades than me is my challenger in study, even I want to be better thanhim." This boy continued to follow this way until he finished high school. That teenager's experience is an example of a healthyand good competition. There is also unhealthy and bad competition, which goesthrough bad ways to pursue its goals. In every competition, each competingparty considers its counterpart as an enemy. There are enemies who becomefriends of competition and struggle, so we can be helped to achieve progressand success. Enemies of this quality are considered good enemies, because theygive us the opportunity to become better. But there are enemies who become deadly opponents, whoare moved by hatred, anger and jealousy. We are not helped to become better,instead we are led to a disaster and loss. We naturally and in following thecommon sense, want to have good enemies. God himself is in the category of ourgood enemies. We are sinners. Every time we realize ourselves as sinners, wemust be able to see God as our good enemy, who is patient with us and providesall the opportunities so that we can repent and ultimately return to Him. The parable of coexistence between the seed sower andhis enemy the weed sower, then between the seed that grows together withits  enemy the weed, is so clearly toteach us about the role of the enemy that helps us in this life. Our own familymembers, our friends and people whom we don't know can be our good enemies.Even if we cannot avoid the presence of the dangerous or deadly enemies, thiswas actually already experienced by the Lord Jesus himself and the martyrs whohave gone before us. Such enemies give us opportunities to drink the cup ofsuffering like Jesus Christ did, who is our Teacher and Savior. In this case,we should be grateful and pray for our enemies. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, bless us so that we can live inYour truth and wisdom. Make us good neighbours to those around us. Our Fatherwho art in heaven ... In the name of the Father ...
