As we move into Ordinary Time, this Sunday in Ireland we have the beautiful feast of Corpus Christi. So on this week's programme, we bring out a reflection from our old colleague Lorraine Buckley who shares with us some thoughts on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi originally in 2019. In part one, we have our regular run through the liturgical odds and ends including the Pope's Prayer Intention for June 2026 and the saints for the week.In part two, Lorraine's reflection on Corpus Christi begins by taking us through a history of the feast which owes its existence to Blessed Juliana of Liege, who began devotion to the Blessed Sacrament in around 1230. Largely through her insistence, in 1264 Pope Urban IV commanded its observance by the universal church. While the Church celebrates the Institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper on Holy Thursday because it falls within the solemn and reflective time of the Easter Triduum, Juliana wanted to encourage a joyful celebration of this great gift of our Divine Master to the Church and to the world.  The Feast sums up three important confessions about our Faith. First is that God became physically present in the person of Christ, True God and True Man. Secondly, God continues to be present in His people as they form the Mystical Body of Christ in his church. And thirdly, the presence of God under the form of bread and wine is made available to us on the altar at Mass and preserved there for our nourishment and worship. Lorraine also reflects on why the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is so important to us through the Eucharistic hymns of the Tantum Ergo, Ave Verum Corpus, and Godhead Here in Hiding (Adoro Te Devote). In part three we have our weekly reflection on the Sunday Gospel which is from John's discourse on the Bread of Life (John 6:51-58).Local Notices Dates5th - 13th June - Kilmallock Parish Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help10th - 12th June - Triduum to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Robertstown Church in St Senan's Parish on N69.19th - 27th June - Limerick's Solemn Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help at the Redemptorist Church in Limerick city11th July - Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock24th - 29th October - Limerick Youth Pilgrimage to Assis and RomeText us at +353 874668950 or email at comeandseeinspirtaions@gmail.com

Read OnlineJesus' Transforming PeaceJesus said to his disciples: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27There are two types of peace we can enjoy. First, there is worldly peace. This peace is the absence of conflict, war, or external turmoil. Civil governments must work to ensure this peace by protecting their societies from outside aggressors, maintaining order within their communities, and assisting with basic human needs, such as economic development, healthcare, and justice. This form of peace aligns with human reason and is based in the natural law, which is written on the consciences of every person.Though that form of natural peace and justice is good, it is not the highest form of peace we are called to enjoy. The peace that our Lord came to bestow is supernatural, enabling us not only to survive, but to thrive on a moral and spiritual level, even in the absence of worldly peace. Jesus' spiritual gift of peace enables us to find fulfillment in the midst of every external difficulty. If we seek only worldly peace, then any difficulty or disorder will trouble and unsettle our hearts. For that reason, Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” Wars, oppression, crime, poverty, and disease have plagued humanity from the beginning and will persist, in varying degrees, until the end of time. Only when Jesus returns to establish His visible Kingdom as the Universal King will external peace be fully and permanently established. What a glorious day that will be!For now, until the Second Coming, we must learn not only to survive but to thrive within the world. Given the inevitable challenges every human life will encounter, if we want to live in true peace then we must seek out the peace that our Lord promises in today's Gospel. This Gospel comes from Jesus' Last Supper Discourse with His Apostles. As that discourse concludes two chapters later, Jesus prays His High Priestly prayer to the Father: “I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one” (John 17:15). We must live within this fallen world for now, but we do not have to suffer interior afflictions. The evil one has great influence in this world, yet our Lord promises that if we receive His peace, we will be kept safe from the devil's attacks. Though we might suffer some form of external oppression, internally we will be at peace, no matter what we face. The gift of peace that Jesus promises confounds the powers of darkness and is freely given to all who turn to Him and submit to His spiritual governance. The martyrs are the prime example of this interior peace in the midst of exterior persecution. They imitate our Lord, Who permitted the evil one to afflict Him with earthly suffering and death. Jesus confronted that evil with perfect confidence and peace, overcoming it through divine love that won the final victory. In the Eucharist, He continues to share His peace with us, strengthening our hearts against every trial.Reflect today on Jesus' words to His disciples at the Last Supper. At that time, they did not realize they were about to witness Jesus' Passion. Nor did they realize that, in the years to come, they would endure many hardships in their faithful service to God's will. Similarly, if we listen to Jesus' discourse and heed His words, we must embrace them as the Apostles eventually did, once they received the Holy Spirit. We must rely on grace to find courage in the face of life's afflictions—poverty, illness, loss, persecution, and temptation. As you ponder yourself being with the Apostles during this discourse on Holy Thursday, resolve to accept Jesus' promise so that you are spiritually prepared to live in interior peace, no matter the exterior circumstances you might face.Lord of true peace, there are many things in this world that seek to steal my peace. Please give me the confidence I need to always turn to You, no matter what affliction comes my way, so that I will remain in You as You remain in me, enabling me to receive Your all-consuming gift of peace. Jesus, I trust in You.  Image: Stained glass showing Jesus blessing a man Source: Free RSS feed from catholic-daily-reflections.com — Copyright © 2026 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Read OnlineWhen Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.” John 13:16–17Today's Gospel comes from the Last Supper, just after Jesus washed His disciples' feet. What an act of humility! By analogy, it would be as if a king knelt before his servants to polish their shoes, setting aside his glory to attend to their most basic needs. This act would teach them that true greatness lies not in power but in love and humble service. Such an act would make quite an impression on those servants, helping them understand their duty within the king's royal court and their responsibility toward the people of the kingdom. The Apostles might not have understood the full meaning of Jesus' act of humility that Holy Thursday evening. As time went on, however, and the Apostles embraced their roles as spiritual leaders of the early Church, Jesus' actions would have become the foundation of their understanding of servant leadership—one that they themselves were called to imitate as shepherds of Christ's flock. Leadership in the Kingdom of God is not about seeking honors or recognition but about humbling oneself in selfless service to others. This includes not only leaders within the Church, but also leaders within the community and within families.Jesus' example becomes even more impactful when we consider the presence of Judas at this intimate moment. The Gospel goes on to reveal that Jesus acknowledged that one of those whose feet He washed would betray Him. He served Judas anyway. In this one act, Jesus not only demonstrated humility but also showed that His love knows no boundaries, extending even to those who would reject and betray Him.In our lives, when we encounter those who betray us or sin against us in any way, we are immediately tempted to lash out. Imitating Jesus, however, requires us to humble ourselves even before the worst of sinners, rather than condemn them. Jesus did not approve of Judas' betrayal. Instead, He identified it by quoting Psalm 41:10: “The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.” Then, to reassure the remaining disciples of His divine mission, He said: “From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM” (John 13:19).Jesus was essentially saying that once the other eleven Apostles learned of Judas' betrayal, they would understand that only God—I AM—is capable of humbly loving and serving those who sin against Him. As the Apostles reflected on Jesus' act in the days and years to come, they would have recognized that such love transcends human capacity and points to the divine. Jesus' willingness to serve Judas, knowing full well the betrayal to come, reveals that God's love is not dependent on human strength but flows unconditionally, offering even sinners the chance for redemption. Each of us is called to participate in that same depth of love.Reflect today on Jesus' unconditional humility and love and His call to imitate Him. Consider the relationships in your life: Are there people from whom you have withheld love or forgiveness? Is there anyone whom you refuse to serve with humility? Ask for the grace to love as Jesus loved, to serve even those who have hurt you, and to bear witness to the divine humility of Christ, who loved without limits. Pray for the grace to take a concrete step today to reconcile with someone you struggle to love or forgive, imitating Christ's humility and boundless love. In doing so, you not only follow His example but also become a living witness to His ongoing presence in the world. My humble Lord, You love everyone with perfection, even serving those who have betrayed You. In doing so, You have set an example for us to follow. Please give me the grace I need to imitate You by humbling myself before others, even those who have sinned against me. Strengthen me in moments of betrayal, so that I may respond with love and humility. Donald Trump's shitpost attack on Pope Leo XIV, followed within the hour by an AI slop icon of himself as Jesus, has cracked open the evangelical-Catholic coalition that has anchored American conservatism for fifty years.  Matthew walks through Leo's escalating confrontation with Trump, from his November 2025 immigration remarks to his Palm Sunday Isaiah citation ("your hands are full of blood"), his Holy Thursday liberation theology thread on "imperialist occupation," and the Good Friday Stations of the Cross — in which Father Francesco Patton's meditations called out the passion of deportation, surveillance, and war atrocities.  The backlash from MAGA Christians, including Marjorie Taylor Greene calling the AI image "an Antichrist spirit" and pastor Joel Webbon asking whether Trump is "demon possessed", reveals three deepening fissures: the Vatican-Trump feud over Iran and immigration, a theological split over Christian Zionism, and grassroots disillusionment over ICE enforcement near churches and schools, and blasphememes. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/10/26), Hank picks up his overview of the days of Holy Week, arriving at Holy Friday, the day a united Church is brought face-to-face with the fatal torment of Jesus Christ. A torment that began in the garden of Gethsemane following the emotional Last Supper of Holy Thursday. That night, Jesus was betrayed by Judas, disowned by Peter, and arrested by the temple guard. Before Caiaphas the high priest, he was mocked, beaten, and spat upon. The next morning, Jesus—battered, bruised, and bleeding—was stripped and subjected to the brutality of Roman flogging, reducing his body to quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh. As Christ slumped into the pool of his own blood, soldiers threw a scarlet robe across his shoulders, thrust a scepter into his hands, and pressed sharp thorns into his scalp. After they mocked him, they took the scepter and repeatedly struck him on the head. A heavy wooden beam was thrust upon his bleeding body, and he was led away to a place called Golgotha. There, the Lord of Glory experienced ultimate physical torture in the form of the cross.Today, as we remember the passion of Christ upon the cross, as we recall his dying words, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit,” we are reminded that we, too, will breathe our last. Whether we are old or young, rich or poor, male or female, we light the sky for the briefest of moments. And then eternity. In the meantime, what we do today will have direct consequences for all eternity. Thus, while the culture seeks to focus your gaze on greatness, Christ rightly focuses your gaze on grace and godliness.

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/09/26), Hank resumes his overview of Holy Week with Holy Thursday, the epicenter of the divine narrative. A narrative that begins with the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. If Adam and Eve had rejected the serpent, they would have eaten from the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge would not have been withheld from them. Instead, they were exiled from the Edenic garden and from traversing the slope leading upward toward the peak of deification. Thankfully, the narrative does not end there. For in the panoply of history, a Second Adam clothed himself in fallen humanity. It was above all in his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead that Christ returned humanity to the life of Eden. This then is the great arc of the biblical narrative. From the Tree of Life in the Edenic Garden to the Tree of Life in the eternal garden. An arch that finds its apex with the Eucharistic bounty spilling forth from the trodden grapes of Golgotha's hill. The Last Supper that we commemorate on Holy Thursday constitutes the central mystery of the Church. It is the source and zenith of Church life. By it, we are changed from human multiplicity to one body in Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit. Within the Eucharistic assembly, divine life flows into us and penetrates the fabric of our humanity. The future life is infused into the present one and is blended with it, so that our fallen humanity may be transformed into the glorified humanity of the new Adam, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Jesus transformed the Passover meal into something new. It is a gift of His body and blood for the forgiveness of sins, given freely to the unworthy who need it most. This meal is a foretaste of the eternal feast where Christ gathers His people, connecting those who commune here with those already rejoicing in His presence in heaven.Series Summary: The religious leaders at the cross hurled a challenge at Jesus: “Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” They demanded proof before faith. But the Gospel of Mark, especially in its story of the Passion, invites us into a different reality: believing in order to see. From the anointing at Bethany to the silent emptiness of the tomb, Jesus' journey subverts our expectations. The one hailed as king is crowned with thorns. The one with power to calm storms submits to arrest. The consistent, sure thread through the chaos is his Word. As the angel at the tomb reminded the trembling women, “He is going ahead of you…just as he told you.” As we study through Mark's Passion, we are invited to follow Jesus—not by sight, but by faith in his sure and leading Word.Add St. Marcus as your church on the Church Center App!Fill out our online connection cardHow can we pray for you? Homily from Holy Thursday. Jesus knew. And He still gave everything. At the end of Lent, we realize that we have been called to give. To give our time and attention to God in prayer. To give up things in fasting. To give help to those in need. Jesus gives at the Last Supper. He gives everything...fully knowing the truth of the people for whom He gives everything. Mass Readings from April 2, 2026: Exodus 12:1-8, 11-14 Psalm 116:12-13, 15-181 Corinthians 11:23-26 John 13:1-15

On this Holy Thursday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, Sid recognizes the significance of this Holy day leading up to the Easter celebration come Sunday. In other news of the day, the trial of NYPD hero Jonathan Diller's accused killer was thrown into chaos when the jury foreman claimed the panel had acquitted the defendant of first-degree murder — and one of the jurors denied it to the judge; the City Council released a $127 billion alternate budget plan that doesn't raise property taxes, dip into reserves or cut services to make ends meet — unlike Mayor Zohran Mamdani's proposal; a majority of Supreme Court justices appeared skeptical of President Donald Trump's effort to end so-called birthright citizenship, using oral arguments to cite concerns over the legality and enforcement of an executive order that could reshape protections for millions of Americans; President Trump has not made a final decision, but he has floated the idea of replacing Attorney General Pam Bondi with Lee Zeldin, the current E.P.A. administrator; and President Trump told Americans that he expects the war in Iran to last another two to three weeks, deeming it close to an end. Read OnlineSo when he had washed their feet and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, “Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher' and ‘master,' and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” John 13:12–15The celebration of the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday is one of the most spiritually enriching liturgical celebrations of the year. The Mass begins with an empty tabernacle. After the readings and homily, the ritual of the washing of the disciples' feet takes place. The Mass culminates with the celebration of the Eucharist, which is then carried in procession to another altar for adoration by the faithful until midnight, during which time we are invited to spend an hour with our Lord, in communion with Him during His Agony in the Garden. The Gospel for the Mass, from Saint John, presents the beginning of Jesus' Last Supper with His disciples. Jesus performs the act of a servant by washing the disciples' feet. Though this surprises them, especially Peter, Jesus insists, saying, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me” (John 13:8). Our Lord says the same to us.Often people understand the washing of the feet only superficially. Perhaps that is why Jesus said to the disciples, “Do you realize what I have done for you?...” This begs the question: Do you understand the deep and transforming meaning of this most sacred act? This was not Jesus' way of simply telling us that we should be nice to one another and look for opportunities to do each other kind favors. The meaning is much richer. First, we need to be washed by Jesus. Second, we must participate in Jesus' washing of others. How are you washed by Jesus? By His Cross and Resurrection that destroyed sin and restored eternal life. We need to be washed by His blood, which was shed for us and first administered to His disciples at the Last Supper. Jesus was telling them that they need the cleansing He was giving them: the cleansing of sin. Today, this cleansing takes place first in Baptism and then in Reconciliation. If we wish to share in the Eucharist fruitfully, we must first be cleansed through Baptism. When we sin later in life, this cleansing takes place by confessing our sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which prepares us to receive Him worthily in the Eucharist. When we receive those sacraments, we should hear our Lord say to us, “Do you realize what I have done for you?”After that question, Jesus says, “I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” Of course, we are not Jesus. We cannot forgive sins and give to others His Sacred Body and Blood, right? Remember that Jesus was talking to His Apostles, the first bishops, so, “Yes,” Jesus was commanding them, and all bishops and priests that followed, to perpetuate His ongoing gift through the faithful administration of the Sacraments He instituted.Though that is the central command, our Lord also calls all of us to participate in His self-gift. Though only He could offer us the cleansing and transformation we need—which is perpetuated throughout time in the Sacraments—He also commands each of us to imitate His sacrificial love in charity, the “model” He has given us to follow. Forgiven of our sins and strengthened by the Eucharist, we must turn our attention to others, choosing to do everything necessary to be Christ to them, laying our lives down, selflessly and without hesitation. This command applies not only to those we like, but to everyone, equally and unwaveringly. Note that Jesus even washed Judas' feet, despite knowing Judas would soon betray Him. In doing so, Jesus teaches us that charity extends even to those who wrong us, calling us to love as He loves—without conditions or limits.Reflect today upon Jesus' question to the Twelve: “Do you realize what I have done for you?” Ponder that question today, especially this evening. Do you understand the depth of His Sacrifice? Do you understand the Sacraments that perpetuate that Sacrifice throughout time? Do you understand the demands that your reception of His gift places on you? Be open to all that Jesus offers you and, in turn, give what you have been given to others. My sacrificial Teacher and Lord, You have poured out upon me Your Precious Blood to cleanse me from sin and restore me to life. Though I will never fully fathom this Gift, I pray for Understanding, so that I can comprehend more fully this great mystery. As You transform me, please use me as a gift, poured out for others, in charity and selfless service of divine love.
