There isn’t really anyone that sounds like Samuel Kerridge. A singular artist with a true and brutalist vision of club catharsis, his is a blend of bleakest atmosphere and exploded blast-beat weight that toils through acres of distortion till it reaches the floor. So far his music has found fitting homes in Karl O’Connor’s Downwards, James Ruskin’s Blueprint and the shadowy world of Horizontal Ground. Kerridge’s next move, inevitably, is to do things his own way. His 2nd album, Always Offended Never Ashamed will inaugurate his new label, Contort Records in early 2015. Named after the now-infamous parties he runs in Berlin with his wife Hayley, it promises electronic music from the very edge. This exclusive mix for Crack sees Kerridge pull together droning swamps of noise, ten-tonne percussion and drowning seas of bass into just under an hour of relentless turbulence. Hailing from Rotterdam, our next guest is a superb DJ who has been playing since his teens during the 90s, and producing his energetic and characteristic sound for more than a decade, CHARLTON. He has an eclectic and versatile mixing style, and on his latest studio mix for us he delivered an amazing 1-hour mix (showcasing some of his recent material on MindTrip and Mord), spanning 30 tracks of unique, classic techno. [CONTAINER PODCAST] [12] [SKIRT] DJ Skirt (real name Bethany DeMoss) was born in Houston Texas and has been residing in Birmingham UK for the last decade. She bought her turntables in 1998 and has been mixing vinyl ever since, having played records in many techno clubs all over the UK and internationally in places like Berlin, Athens, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Dublin, Amsterdam in recent years. DJ Skirt started producing her own music in 2001 and has released records on Horizontal Ground, Frozen Border, Semantica and remixes on labels such as Semantica, Perc Trax and Sect. Her production style is somewhat different to her DJ approach. Her own productions and remixes often show a much more experimental side of the artist, however when she is behind the decks it is purely the intention to devastate the dancefloor with dark and powerful techno beats to make the body move.
