Welcome to this episode of Healthy AF! Zane Griggs' interview with Jason Atkinson, host of the Health Hackers podcast. In this inspiring conversation, Jason shares how he overcame his own health struggles and is now helping others to do the same. At 254 pounds and 33% body fat, Jason was diagnosed with high blood pressure, but instead of relying on medication, he decided to take control of his health and find alternative solutions. Through his journey, he realized that the medical system is not set up to help people get healthy and that we should take charge of our own health. Jason made significant changes to his diet by cutting out wheat and focusing on meat, and increased his workout routine, leading him to lose over 50 pounds. He has since maintained his weight under 200 pounds for seven years, following a low carb, animal-based diet. Jason's transformation inspired him to become a personal trainer, and he now helps others achieve their health goals. Jason's story is a testament to the power of making positive changes and taking charge of our health. If you want to learn more about his journey, you can visit his website at eatmeatnotwheat.com. Jimmy Crumpacker returns to the Oregon Bridge to break down the 2022 election, highlighting everything from homelessness, and crime in Portland to crypto to commodities. Folks may remember Jimmy Crumpacker as a candidate for Oregon's 2nd Congressional District in 2020, running as a staunchly conservative Republican (he had a popular ad that labeled him as a "Trumpbacker") to replace retiring Congressman Greg Walden. In a tight four-way race, he finished behind eventual winner Congressman Cliff Bentz, Knute Buehler, and Jason Atkinson.
This may be our most surprising podcast episode to date. Now, Crumpacker is running again, this time in the new, ultra-competitive 5th Congressional District. He will face former Mayor Lori Chavez DeRemer in the primary (Congressman Kurt Schrader faces Jamie McLeod Skinner in the Democratic Primary). This episode starts with Jimmy's personal background, but veers quickly into a fascinating conversation on global geopolitics, including how the U.S. should handle China. This conversation on foreign affairs was the deepest of any we've had so far, and we really enjoyed it. We also talk about two of Jimmy's "celebrity donors", his beliefs on investing government funds, why 2020 was a challenging year for new candidates, and how he plans to appeal to voters of color this cycle.

Congressman Cliff Bentz is the newest member of Oregon's congressional delegation, defeating Knute Buehler, Jason Atkinson, and eight other candidates in 2020 to replace longtime Rep. Greg Walden in Oregon's second congressional district (the state's only safe Republican seat). Previously, Bentz was a state legislator with a reputation for dealmaking (e.g. one of the architects of Oregon's $5.3 billion transportation package in 2017). In Congress, Bentz' voting record has been interesting: he voted against certifying Pennsylvania's election results, but in favor of establishing a commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection against Congress. In this episode, we discuss whether an infrastructure deal is possible in DC, how Congress compares to the legislature, and Oregon's urban-rural divide. We also talk about the pressure (or lack thereof) of party leadership in DC (Kevin McCarthy!) and his thoughts on the Greater Idaho movement.

After 20 years representing Oregon's 2nd Congressional district, Greg Walden is retiring. Walden is currently the only Republican in Oregon's congressional delegation and members of his party are lining up to replace him. We'll hear from the most prominent candidates running for Walden's seat in the Republican primary. Next up is Jason Atkinson. He served in the Oregon legislature from 1999 until 2013. He ran for governor in 2006 but didn’t make it past the primary. He also has experience as a filmmaker and an advocate for Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement.
