Today we're diving into protein. It's the nutrient at the centre of some of the biggest debates in nutrition - especially when it comes to building muscle. And as more people adopt plant-based diets, one question keeps coming up: Can non-meat proteins really support strength and overall health? So, what does the science say? Is it better to get our protein from animals or plants? I'm joined by nutrition expert Simon Hill and Dr. Will Bulsiewicz to break down the benefits of both, and to explore how we can build muscle in the healthiest, most sustainable way.

Holy crap, did that suck! The weather went from bad to worse yesterday…with rain, snow, thunder, lighting & then some. Had a HELL of a time cleaning my truck off this morning. Thankfully, there's about 13 hours of college basketball today starting at 11am to keep me occupied! In the news this morning, stories about a new scam making it's way around the state, a former Vice Chancellor gave unauthorized raises, the NFL draft in Green Bay is going to feature a "dive bar" experience, Henry Firearms is moving ALL of it's manufacturing operations to Rice Lake, and President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order to eliminate the Department of Education. In sports, we recapped last night's final "First Four" games and looked ahead at today's schedule in the tournament. Plus, the Bucks are taking on the Lakers tonight in LA and Aaron Rodgers will NOT be a Viking next season. Elsewhere in sports, the QBs that will be featured in the second season of Netlix's "QB" show were announced yesterday, and the Trump Administration has suspended $175 million in Federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania. Let you know what's on TV tonight and talked about today being the first day of Spring! Plus, it's "Hypothetical Thursday", so we asked each other some hypothetical questions. Jean's question for Brian was: "If money weren't a concern, where would you go on vacation?" Brian's question for Jean was: "If all animals could suddenly speak, would you still eat meat?" Cool story about the New England Aquarium building a retirement home for it's older penguins, and in other aquatic news…the fish doorbell is back! Brian has been a proponent of giving anxious travelers the option of getting anesthesia before a flight, and now it looks like that might become a reality in the future as people are getting put under before lengthy tattoo sessions. We went over some betting stats & info with the brackets starting today, and a new venture from the Bare Knuckle Fighting league is coming down the pipeline. Office Cora joined us this morning to talk about what's happening in the 715 this weekend, and also had a question for us on "Hypothetical Thursday". It was: " And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a sorority girl from Georgia who's going viral because of her mugshot, a woman in Texas who won $83 million in the lottery but is being denied her jackpot, some wannabe rappers that broke into a Jewish Temple, a #FloridaWoman who did something absolutely horrific at an airport, and some American tourists FAFO'd while in Ireland for St. Paddy's Day. Lori was born in suburban Chicago, IL, in 1951. Her family lived in several midwestern states throughout her childhood, including Omaha, NE, Kansas City, MO, and Des Moines, IA. Her father died of a third heart attack when he was 52 years old. She was 16 years old. After his death, her mother decided to move the family to upstate New York, where her family lived. She died a year after they moved. She was 18 years old. She finished high school in Rochester, NY, received a BA in English from Buffalo State College, and an MS in instructional technology from Rochester institute of Technology. She has been a technical writer in the software industry, and moved to northern California to accept a job offer as a technical writer. She lives just north of San Jose, CA, with her cat, Daisy. She loved meat as far back as she can remember, even as a tot. However, she never liked vegetables and wouldn't eat them. No one knew much about nutrition back then, and her mom thought that giving her more potatoes might help. But that only unleashed an attraction to, and later an addiction to, carbohydrates, which was later joined by a love of sugar. Despite these emerging bad eating patterns, she was a thin, energetic, healthy child -- until adolescence. Then, the bad stuff caught up with her. She was having more digestive problems and was gaining weight. The digestive problems worsened and turned into inflammatory bowel disease, which she suffered from for nearly 3 decades. In 2019, her colon was pretty much totally destroyed, and she had a complete procto-colectomy (removal of colon and rectum). She now wears an ileostomy bag. She knew she had to change her eating, and she went through several steps -- low carb, then keto, then ketovore, then to carnivore. (A video from Dr. Berry was a game-changer.) Looking back, it's almost a miracle that she embraced carnivore and has thrown off ALL carbohydrates and ALL sugar. Her diet now comes down to two words: EAT MEAT. She's realized several blessings from the carnivore way of eating -- normalized blood pressure and blood sugar, faster healing from bruises and minor injuries, no more belly fat, no more digestive pain...and best of all, far greater mental clarity. She never believed in a million years that she would ever be able to be free of carbs and sugar! Send us a Text Message. My very special guest, Carnivore Ray, explains how he has been experimenting with his diet by following the carnivore lifestyle for a year. He shares how he has received various reactions and opinions, but ultimately, he believes that experimenting and being open-minded is important for one's health. He also mentions his bloodwork results and how they have improved. Ray is a 26-year-old man who has been following a carnivorous diet for about a year. He initially started this diet as an experiment due to various health issues and was surprised by the positive results. Recently he decided to add fruits to his diet to see if he could still maintain his good health. While he experienced some benefits, he also noticed negative side effects like increased joint pain and inflammation. He first heard about the carnivore diet through a podcast by Joe Rogan featuring Jordan Peterson. He was intrigued by the benefits mentioned by Peterson, including improved mental health and reduced knee pain. He decided to give the diet a try and within the first few days, he experienced weight loss and improved mental acuity. He continued to follow the diet and ended up losing a total of 92 pounds. Most people who criticize the carnivore diet become more open or change their minds after seeing the positive effects on the person following it. Briefly Coach Stephen explains why the HBA1C metric is flawed as it doesn't consider that red blood cells last longer when following a carnivore, keto or low-carb diet. He believes the best indicators of how you're doing is your fasting glucose, insulin, and C-peptide levels.linktr.ee/carnivorerayThank you so much for listening to my podcast. I hope you enjoyed it. Coach Stephen discusses with Professor Bart kay that he believes that current blood tests are not comprehensive enough and only look at a few limited markers, which can lead to misdiagnoses. They suggest that tests should include fasted glucose and insulin, c-peptide, a full thyroid panel, full iron panel, and all liver markers -at the least- AST, ALP, ALT and GGT levels, as these can provide a better understanding of overall health and function. They also mention that exercise can cause elevations in ALT but that does not necessarily indicate a problem with the liver. Bart and Stephen urge people to think differently and look at a more complete picture of their health: We see that people's blood tests often don't match up with how they feel. They feel the term ‘insulin resistance' is misleading as the mechanism is more to do with our cells protecting themselves by not taking in too much glucose. One of the drugs that is supposed to lower blood sugar by forcing the cells to take in glucose is harmful because it damages the cells.Thank you so much for listening to my podcast. Send us a Text Message.Stephen and Richard answer questions about keto, organ meats such as liver, and BHBs. They discuss how to eat liver in moderation, the benefits of vitamin D testing and reference some scientific data about the carbs that are best eaten when bulking. Richard talks about recent self-experimentation results. Stephen explains how the community can help support the channel. Richard and Stephen impersonate each other and talk about their accents. They talk about how to set up local community meetups. Herbert shares a recommended magnesium supplement. Stephen talks about oxalate detox and how it can manifest in various ways. He also shares the dangers of oxalate overconsumption and why they promote an animal-based eating. There are many ways to improve insulin sensitivity, such as reducing carbohydrates and avoiding seed oils, exercising, and taking supplements like MCT oil. It's also important to avoid foods high in lectins. Inflammation can be caused by elevated insulin levels and ketones can help block an inflammatory pathway. The main topic of the live conversation is the amount of protein that people with diabetes should consume, with a suggested rule of thumb of 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass. Richard Smith also adds that a low-carb or carnivore diet can help reverse diabetes, and while there are supplements that can help, living a healthy lifestyle is the most important factor. One story shared is of a man who saw improvement in his diabetes after taking exogenous ketones, which increase insulin sensitivity.Thank you so much for listening to my podcast. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
Our custom is to refrain from eating meat during the Nine Days, from Rosh Hodesh Ab until after Tisha B'Ab, except on Shabbat. The question is often asked whether it is permissible to eat after Shabbat meat that is left over from Shabbat. Is this food permissible since it was prepared for Shabbat, or is this food permissible only during Shabbat, but not after Shabbat? The Halachic authorities permit eating leftover meat from Shabbat on Mosa'eh Shabbat, when it is customary to eat the Melaveh Malka meal. With regard to eating leftovers after Mosa'eh Shabbat, different opinions exist among the Halachic authorities. The Hida (Rav Haim Yosef David Azulai, 1724-1807) writes that there are proofs to both views, and therefore although it is preferable not to eat leftover meat after Mosa'eh Shabbat, those who are lenient in this regard have authorities on whom to rely, and one should not protest against their practice. This is the view followed by Hacham Ovadia Yosef, though he adds that minors (below the age of Bar Misva) may eat leftover meat even Le'chatehila (according to the optimum level of observance). Generally, one should not allow children to eat meat during the Nine Days once they've reached the age when they understand the concept of mourning the destruction of the Bet Ha'mikdash. When it comes to Shabbat leftovers, however, since in any event some authorities allow eating such food even beyond Mosa'eh Shabbat, one may feed them to minors. It should be noted that this applies only to food that was prepared for Shabbat but was not eaten over the course of Shabbat. If one intentionally prepared extra meat before Shabbat in order to have leftovers after Shabbat, it should not be eaten after Shabbat, as this is considered improper "Ha'arama" ("trickery"). Summary: If one has leftover meat from Shabbat during the Nine Days, he may eat it for Melaveh Malka after Shabbat. After Mosa'eh Shabbat, it should not be eaten, but those who are lenient in this regard have authorities on whom to rely. Children below the age of Bar Misva may eat leftover meat even past Mosa'eh Shabbat.
In today's Small Bite Sound Bite, host Colleen Patrick-Goudreau address the assertion that what people eat is a personal choice and that people don't want to be told what to eat. They see their food choices as being their own personal choice, and they don't want anyone (i.e. vegans) interfering with their right to choose what to eat or how to live. —————— Join our awesome community and support this podcast through Patreon or as an Apple Subscriber for bonus material, early access to episodes, and other perks, depending on the option you choose. Send us a Text Message.Dr. Robert Kiltz is a physician who promotes eating fatty meat for overall health and wellness. He believes that eating this way can help improve fertility and he encourages people to share their success stories on social media. When asked about the dangers of hormones in dairy, he states that it is not a big concern compared to the hormones found in plants. He also mentions that inflammation caused by plant sugars and chemicals can damage cells and affect fertility. Richard and Stephen emphasize how ancient humans were omnivorous with their protein sources predominantly from animals and hunting, not plants. Modern doctors and dieticians give misguided advice as they don't know man's true evolution. People lack macro-nutrients and focus on micro-nutrients too much. Dr. Kiltz stresses that fat is essential for one's body and should be prioritized in a diet, as nature provides protein and fat in perfectly packaged proportions. He also challenges the idea that obesity is a disease, stating that it is a natural state that is only harmful if paired with a low-fat diet that inflames the body's cells.https://www.instagram.com/doctorkiltz/https://www.doctorkiltz.com/Thank you so much for listening to my podcast. It may sound crazy, but there are some incredible benefits to eating nothing but meat for 30 days. This video will explain 5 surprising benefits…. The first benefit is that you completely reset your digestive system. If you are dealing with acid reflux, gas, bloating, food allergies, constipation, diarrhea, or autoimmune disease… Most people can completely get rid of these symptoms within 30 days of only eating meat. There's a condition called leaky gut, where essentially you have undigested food particles floating around in your bloodstream… in other words, poop in your blood! Your digestive system has a physical barrier called the mucosal barrier. You have tight junctions in place to keep food within your mucosal barrier, so it's processed, assimilated and used by your cells. When you have a leaky gut, these tight junctions rip open, and it allows food particles to go undigested and enter your bloodstream. This puts your immune system on high alert, which leads to a hyperactive immune system, and eventually autoimmune disease. There are over 100 autoimmune diseases and another 40 diseases associated with autoimmune. What happens next is that your immune system gets confused, and starts tagging healthy foods like avocado, eggs , broccoli and others as a threat since they do not belong in the bloodstream. This creates food sensitivities to these specific foods. It's estimated that most people have leaky gut! Harvard recently published an article stating all disease begins in the leaky gut. The second amazing benefit of eating only meat for 30 days is melting body fat. The third amazing benefit of eating only meat for 30 days is that you get into ketosis. The fourth amazing benefit of eating only meat for 30 days is better mood, brain function and energy levels. The fifth amazing benefit of eating only meat is reduced inflammation If you enjoyed this video, you're going to love a video I just published on my 90 day carnivore experiment. I only ate meat for 90 days, did labs and other tests day 1 and 90, and I shared what it did to my body. CTA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1hCAgddsVY
