Our guest on the podcast this week is Jon Bartlett, Founder of Project Libero and an advocate for better mental and emotional health. Living and working with a severe and enduring mental health condition means that Jon has spent lots of time feeling unheard and misunderstood. It informs his work helping individuals and organizations think well using his model of “Inside Out Inclusion”. Following a 20-year leadership career in the military and public transport, Jon is now a successful coach and facilitator putting listening at the core of his practice. He believes that for people to feel truly seen they have to know they've been heard. Jon is also an ambassador for MQ, a mental health research charity based out of New York. Today Jon shares his own life experience that includes his own mental health issues, and an embodied sense of what it means to create a real human connection. It is this experience that has shaped his professional career, and through demand, is now the major theme for his work. Listen in as we talk through what it means to be radically available to others, to think well, listen well, and speak well for what we need. These are not confined to pathological mental health issues but are key components for our own human mental and emotional wellbeing. Jon speaks with a deep and personal sense of what impact it makes when we are not listened to, how in so many environments we have lost this key skill, something we refer to as a “crisis of listening”. We talked about how this impacts leaders in organizational life, not merely in healthcare settings, and how to create “Inside-Out Inclusion”. If you are curious about following your own sense of health and wellbeing, or even what is possible for us from a wider sense of awareness, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. I suspect you'll enjoy this deeply resonant dialogue as much as I did. Key Takeaways Jon's dynamic perspective on mental and emotional wellbeing How to be comfortable being completely and utterly yourself The value of being truly heard - “Who would you be if you were truly heard?” How to create a real and authentic human connection The 3 steps and the 5 D's can help you to be more available with a higher quality of listening.
