Members of the Commercial, Stevedoring, Agricultural and Allied Workers Union (CSAAWU) will today picket outside the Ladismith Cheese Factory in the Western Cape, in solidarity with farmworkers facing dismissal. Earlier this year 78 workers embarked on a picket in support of Clover farm workers who were on strike. The workers are now facing disciplinary action from the company for reportedly leaving their workplaces to join the picket. The Kannaland Municipality in Ladismith in the Little Karoo hangs in the balance after the ANC broke ties with its coalition partner, the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (ICOSA), over the current mayor's rape conviction. The ANC was put under pressure to review its coalition agreement following gender-based violence activists' calls, upon hearing that they supported a partnership with Kannaland Mayor, Jeffrey Donson. The Municipality of Kannaland, which includes towns like Ladismith and Calitzdorp, has named a convicted rapist as its news mayor. Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa leader, Jeffrey Donson, was convicted for the statutory rape and indecent assault of a 15-year-old in 2004. However, he received a suspended sentence on appeal. The Kannaland Council has also elected ICOSA's Werner Meshoas as deputy mayor. He has been convicted of fraud and obstruction of justice. ICOSA has formed a coalition with the ANC to govern the municipality, which has been under administration since December 2018. After boasting on social media with his Braaikaaster all of Willim's fans wanted one. Without consulting Bert, Willim and his sister Zazzie B van Rooyen took 10 orders. Fed-up with working behind his computer screen, Bert accepted the challenge, stepped-up to the anvil and moved into the garage. After sleepless nights he poured his blood, sweat and tears into sculpting those first 10 mild steel Blitzkriek Braaikaasters. And so it began.
