Hans Wijers lag al gelijk onder vuur als informateur voor D66 en CDA, omdat hij zich lelijk zou hebben uitgelaten over Yesilgöz en de VVD. Maar er is een nieuwe ontwikkeling. Eric Smit van Follow the Money zegt dat hij die uitlatingen heeft gedaan, niet Wijers. "Het waren mijn woorden, dat was nu juist mijn bijdrage op het podium", vertelt Smit. Volgens hem heeft Wijers hooguit instemmend geknikt. Dat Smit dit niet gisteren al duidelijk had gemaakt kwam omdat hij een drukke dag had en er verder geen aandacht aan had besteed. NRC doet volgens Smit voorkomen in het artikel dat Wijers een heel ongenuanceerd verhaal heeft gehouden op het podium, maar dat is volgens hem zeker niet het geval. Anna Dijkman, columnist bij het FD, vraagt zich nu af waarom NRC dit dan zo hard heeft durven zeggen. "Ze zouden bij de krant ook filmbeelden hebben, maar het blijft onduidelijk wat daar dan gezegd is." Volgens Marc Veeningen, hoofd nieuws bij Talpa, ligt de bal nu bij NRC. "Hoe kwamen ze bij dit verhaal en hoe zit het met de opname? Daar ligt nu het koortsachtig overleg lijkt mij." Neemt niet weg dat Veeningen die een buitengewoon interessante journalistieke kwestie vindt. Brooklyn-based artist and sometimes New Yorker magazine cartoonist Guy Richards Smit returns to the podcast eight years after his first visit to talk about: His admitted high self-regard, paired with self-awareness, which we identify as being rare; our respective experiences and takes on artist blowhards; his history with cartooning, going back to his obsession with gag cartoons, going back to a New Yorker cartoon book he read at his grandparents' house when he was a kid; how he started making his own gag cartoons; the steps he took to build his cartoon portfolio, leading to getting published in the New Yorker after a year and a half of submitting (which is much quicker than some); the cartoon he made for the New Yorker website, the ‘Daily,' that went viral (receiving 1500 comments, not to mention other viral stats), including getting re-created in Turkish by a Turkish cartoonist; how he actually sees the cartoons as sketches for paintings (and gets quite painterly in the making of them); how about half of his cartoons are more insider-baseball-art cartoons, and the one he made that references one artist that he had in mind, although several reactions interpreted it as another artist, whom Guy actually heard from, wondering if it was about them. On Christmas Night 1996, six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her family's home in Boulder, Colorado. A ransom note was found in the home, but it was hours before her father, John, found her body in the basement. She had been strangled with a garrote and her skull was fractured. The media sensationalized the tragic death of the “child beauty queen” and public speculation and rumors ran rampant. What followed was one of the most notorious unsolved murder investigations in American history. Boulder police fixated on JonBenet's parents as suspects. Needing investigative help, the Boulder DA brought in legendary homicide detective Lou Smit. However, he was soon disenchanted with law enforcement's obsession with the Ramsey family as the primary suspects, excluding other possibilities. Smit resigned but continued to work on his own time, and at his own expense, determined to find justice for JonBenet. He determined the Ramsey family was not involved in her death but died in 2010 before he could identify the killer. Thousands of people attended his funeral service, including John Ramsey, and the detective's lifelong friend and colleague, John Anderson. Along with a handful of retired detectives, Anderson and Smit's family continue to pursue justice based on Smit's work.
