Fukkin' preps. This week, V and Emily have their brains melted by not ONE incredibly stupid and obvious literary fraud, but TWO incredibly stupid and obvious literary frauds! Yes! In one week! And both involving the most infamous fanfic of all time, everyone's favorite: My Immortal. Dust off your fishnets and stretch out your middle fingers, it's time to get goffik. This week we go through chapters zero through five of Handbook For Mortals by Lani Sarem so buckle in for the introduction to ... well it's just kind of a book.
SPECIAL EPISODE PART 2 of 2: Our interview with Lani Sarem continues! This one is more light-hearted, focusing on Lani's creative background and her responses to various critiques we had in our episode.
SPECIAL EPISODE PART 1 of 2: After our last episode, we received an interesting phone call from a club member you might be familiar with. We think it's time we share it with you all! One thing's for sure--the University of Saint Balasar's English Club will never be the same. Part 1 of our Lani Sarem interview focuses on Sarem's background, the origins of Handbook for Mortals, and the trials she faced before and after its publication.
Lani Sarem's Handbook for Mortals has been the subject of derision on the internet ever since its first publication. While there's no excusing the "magic trick" allegedly used to get it on the NYT Bestseller's list, is the book really that bad? Is there perhaps a great story for young adults hidden within? Join the English Club as they take a look at this controversial novel and find the magic hidden within... "OR DO THEY?"
Zade keeps using her powers for evil, mainly hurting others that have done her wrong. Charles is prying into Mac's relationship with her, it comes off as super creepy and no one likes it. Mac doesn't believe in magick, Jackson does. Zade keeps referencing people being rude to her about her tarot reading when we've got two readers right here who know others that do the same- it's confusing as shit. As always, Lani Sarem didn't do her damn research. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Anna's back, and we're reading the only book to spend a mere 23 hours on the New York Times Best Seller list. But what did it do to deserve such treatment? Is it really as bad as people say, or are the negative reviews a response to the bad press? And what the hell is Carrot Top doing in this book? All that and more on this episode of Hate Read. A very special thank you to Ben Cope for our theme song! Check out his YouTube channel: youtube.com/fretwiz. Rather be reading this fortnight: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Literally anything else. While we pretty much agreed on no guests for the first season, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to talk to someone who attended Lani Sarem's panel a few weeks ago! Amanda was amazing enough to come on the show and talk to us about what the author addressed in the panel! While we discuss our thoughts and opinions on the author's stance on a few things, Amanda is incredibly objectable, we loved having her on the podcast! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! Meghan and James end their year discussing Chapter 9, as well as more Lani Sarem drama llamas. Greetings loyal listeners and welcome to our coverage of the 2017 Wizard World Columbus Comic Con! We had a great time, met a lot of amazingly talented people, and watched a lot of great entertainment! We started in Artist Alley where Jake interviews Ryan Ruffatti of the comic Teleport, and friend of the show Brian Lau and his comic Staunch Ambition. Two great comics that you won’t want to miss, so come in and hear all about them. Then we get to talk with Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk) about the Hulk and what he thinks of the characters evolution, followed by a chat with Thomas Ian Nicholas (Rookie of the Year, American Pie) about his films and band, The Thomas Ian Nicholas Band. Thomas, along with Lani Sarem, was also promoting and selling pre-orders for Sarem’s upcoming book, Handbook for Mortals. Handbook for Mortals is the first book in the series of this urban fantasy, paranormal romance series by author Lani Sarem. Following Zade through the trials--and romance--of finding her own place in the world, readers will identify with their own struggles to fit in, reflected in the fantastic, yet mundane world of Zade's life. Stay tuned after the show to hear our audio footage of the David Tennant (Dr. Who, Duck Tales). Some of it is a bit difficult to hear, but its sure to please any Dr. Who fan!
