On today's episode, I'm talking to athlete, author, and leadership specialist, Lisa C. Willis.Lisa is a former basketball player, with a career spanning from UCLA to the WNBA. When an injury forced her off of the court, Lisa thought she could use her next job to replace the role of basketball in her life. She struggled through this transition before she understood that her role and identity are different. She wrote the book When the Buzzer Sounds: A guide to transition players from the court to life after sports, in order to help other athletes with this transition. Lisa also works with Nike as an apparel wear test analyst, helping to amplify the voices of athletes in the process. We talk about:How Lisa stopped minimizing her accomplishments and began applying her skills as a communicator and supportive teammate off the court. How Lisa figured out that serving athletes mentally and emotionally caused the athletes to improve in all areas of their life as they learned to rely on internal rather than external sources of validation.Flipping the script on imposter syndrome and using it as an opportunity to justify to ourselves exactly why we're the right ones to be delivering our own unique message. You can find the show notes and more resources at https://madamathlete.comAnd if you're interested in learning more about how to crush your imposter syndrome by shifting your mindset so you can show up as your full self... my limited time FREE and LIVE masterclass is back!I only offer this 2x per year, so grab your seat now!Click here to register for the FREE & LIVE masterclass on how to Crush Your Imposter SyndromeKeep an eye out for new content or let us know what you'd like to see next by following us on social:Instagram:  @theMadamAthleteFacebook:  @MadamAthleteTwitter:  @MadamAthleteClick here to save your spot for the FREE and LIVE masterclass: Crush Your Imposter Syndrome!

Professional athletes spend most of their energy, time, and money training and competing. They also make personal, professional, and financial sacrifices to turn their passions into high-performance careers, but there always comes a time when they must consider life after sports. Unfortunately, the transition from being an athlete into entrepreneurship or employment can be brutally challenging. The good news is that transferable skills such as working hard, training, and commitment are highly desirable in business. This is why it's no surprise that most top-tier executives and successful entrepreneurs are former professional athletes.
