The First-Gen Lounge is the FIRST podcast of its kind--highlighting the experiences of first-gens. It is a place where we, first-generation college graduates, come to kick it and talk honestly about this thing called life and entrepreneurship. You’ll cry. You’ll laugh. You’ll grow… and you’ll be inspired while listening to motivating stories and valuable lessons from fellow first-gens. In every session, you’re going to get practical strategies for becoming the best version of yourself. From entrepreneurship, mentorship, career and graduate school advice, boosting productivity, finances, networking, facing adversity, disappointment, and being of service and changing the world around you —we chat about it all (you can expect quite a few laughs, too)! More importantly, here YOU WILL find a strong community that will encourage you to keep growing each day—we’re people who break barriers and defy the odds but understand there is still much ahead of us; therefore, leaning on, and learning from, each other is what we do. So, go ahead and grab a seat, get real comfortable, and join the conversations every Thursday at 9pm EST! Ivy Insights

The First-Gen Lounge podcast is an incredible platform created by Dr. Eve that brings together first-generation college students and professionals from across the globe to share their knowledge and experiences. As a college student, I wish I had access to this community of knowledge earlier, as it would have helped me navigate the bumps and challenges I faced. Dr. Eve's inspirational and motivational approach makes listeners feel comfortable and supported, as if they are having a chat with a good friend and mentor. The show is filled with thought-provoking conversations that can be shared with friends, family, or anyone who wants to engage in meaningful discussions. I highly recommend giving this podcast a listen as it offers practical tools, tips, and encouragement for facing the challenges of life after college.

One aspect that stands out about The First-Gen Lounge podcast is Dr. Eve's ability to create a sense of community through her interviews and solo episodes. Even when listening alone, it feels like being part of a family as she shares stories and experiences that resonate with first-generation individuals. This sense of belonging is empowering and helps listeners realize they are not alone in their struggles or aspirations. The podcast also covers topics like entrepreneurship and living an authentic life, providing inspiration for those seeking to make an impact in their own unique way.

While it's difficult to find any negative aspects of this podcast, one thing that could potentially be improved upon is the frequency of episodes. As a dedicated listener who doesn't want to miss any content produced by Dr. Eve, it would be great to have more frequent releases or updates on when new episodes will be available.

In conclusion, The First-Gen Lounge podcast is a must-listen for anyone who wants to be inspired and empowered by the stories and wisdom shared by first-generation individuals. Dr. Eve creates a supportive atmosphere where listeners can face their fears, navigate challenges after college, and find practical tools for personal growth. This podcast serves as a reminder that there is a whole community of people out there who have overcome similar obstacles and achieved success. I highly recommend tuning in to The First-Gen Lounge and joining the movement led by Dr. Eve Hudson.

We all have our own special way of doing things, but there comes a time when life forces us to start doing things differently. Changing the way we're used to doing things is like stepping into the twilight, a place where nobody knows what to expect. The problem with this normal way of thinking is that it keeps us safe and that's not always a good thing. Being comforted is fine, feeling comfortable is needed but allowing complacency is where you should draw the line. Be sure to join The Kick It Crew at www.thefirstgenlounge.com/crew. Hosted on Acast. Let's take it on back to a time not too long ago, 2021. College is supposed to be, as they say, the best four years of your life. Students get the chance to create new friendships, memories, and experiences. Some cruise through with minimal effort, while others find it a bit of a struggle. But one thing's for sure; no two college journeys are the same. And for most undergrads, the thing that rings true is the idea of building a four-year plan: four years to graduate and get on with life. Yet, college life is never that straightforward, especially for first-gens. In 2016, Nationwide reported that the average student now takes 5.2 academic years to earn a bachelor's degree. But for our guest for today, Dr. Eady, her off-and-on journey lasted nine years. Join The Kick It Crew at www.thefirstgenlounge.com/crew Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We're digging in the archives with this one. As it's back-to-school season, it was this very time two years ago that I had the pleasure of presenting a keynote for some of the most amazing first-generation students at The University of Southern Mississippi. In this session, I reflect on a thought I shared with students with a message too good not to share with you. In a world that is constantly pushing standards of all that you are supposed to be, I think it's important for you to be reminded that life is a blank canvas, and whatever you want for your life you get to create. One of the thing I've really had to work on over the years is my mindset about money. When you grow up without it, it's hard to have much of an opinion about it. As a matter of fact, I once heard someone say that people who don't have money usually don't talk about it because it's not something for which they're proud, and even more than that, what is there to talk about? I'm grateful for the experiences that have exposed me to different perspectives, and in this session, I share an encounter with my roommate from college that changed my life. What I did know was that something needed to change and that was my priority. Peep the full show notes at www.thefirstgenounge.com/231. Are you doing what's best for you? Wait… Let me ask that question differently. Are you doing what's best for you so as long as it doesn't bother, disappoint, or upset anybody else? When we think about doing what's best for us, we must truly do the things that are going to make us happy even if other people don't agree. It's not always the easiest thing to do because of the concerns of disapproval or rejection. When we do not make the choices to do what's best for us, however, we'll always be miserable. So, in this chat with Nzinga D. Mpenda, we discuss the importance of being authentic, doing what's best for you, and learning to choose joy.
