Jill Morley is my guest this week on the podcast. She is a filmmaker, screenwriter, boxer and boxing coach. I admire Jill Morley for many reasons, foremost among them is her willingness to share some of the things she has lived and experienced in her life as a means to help others. This week on Another Door Opens, we talk about the documentary film she directed, Fight Like A Girl, which set out to explore the stories of a few female boxers and why they fight, but it was also an exploration of Jill's own mental health struggles, where they started and how she used boxing to confront and combat some painful memories. That journey became a fight all its own for Jill — one she generously shares with the audience. That is the kind of artist Jill is: truthful, unfiltered, honest. When someone has the courage to be vulnerable, as Jill does, it gives a reminder that we can own our life experiences without judgment. And in doing so, the person who chooses to be open, is often rewarded with a feeling of being free.• Learn more about Jill at jillmorley.com and follow her on social media @jillmorley.• Support the Another Door Opens podcast for as little as $1 a month at https://www.patreon.com/anotherdooropens and know you're making the world a better place one conversation at a time. • Follow the Another Door Opens podcast on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook at @stephhimango and @podcastado. • Visit https://www.stephaniehimango.com to learn more about host, Stephanie Himango. • Another Door Opens drum beats by Eric Brown.#anotherdooropens #film #storytelling #documentaries #fightlikeagirl #boxing #mentalhealth #confidence #vulnerability #courage #openhearts #openminds #healing #womenboxers #femalefighters #martialarts #training #newyork #losangeles #ali #muhammadali #stripped #trueconfessionsofagogogirl #screenwriting #directing #femalefilmmakers #femaledirectors #grace #sisterhood #artist #love See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

When I first met Cheung Shiu-kwong, I asked how I should address him. His answer was an enthusiastic “Sifu.” In sharing this list, I am sharing the memory of my Sifu with you, and I’m sharing food for thought so you can examine your own personal ethics and rules of conduct.7 DOJO ETHICS AND RULES OF CONDUCT1. Students should bow upon entering and leaving the dojo, and when greeting sensei, instructors and senior students.2. Training suits should be kept clean and tidy. Shoes and socks should be removed before entering the dojo.3. Silence, seriousness and diligence must be maintained during training.4. Train with a sense of respect for the training itself; with respect for the instructors who pass on the training; and with respect for other students who help each other to learn.5. All free-sparring training must be conducted under the supervision of an instructor.6. Students during training cannot leave the dojo without the consent of the instructor.7. Students must not engage in activities outside the dojo that would bring disrepute to the dojo.• Subscribe to support the Another Door Opens podcast for as little as $1 a month at https://www.patreon.com/anotherdooropens and know you’re making the world a better place one conversation at a time. • Follow the Another Door Opens podcast on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook at @podcastado. • Visit https://www.stephaniehimango.com to learn more about host, Stephanie Himango. • Another Door Opens theme music by Eric Brown.
