Today's episode is with my friend, Denise, whom I've known for about 10 years. She's married with 3 kids and works full time, so she's got lots going on every day! We talk about farm boxes, how to cook for different tastes (and how she manages everyone's preferences), lots and lots of root veggies and how she can combine them with the chicken she has on hand into a hearty and tasty stew! You can follow Denise on Instagram @Luckymama.ca.

"Dear Mamas, Do you and Teri purposefully stay away from city politics? I heard the interview the guys did with Mario Chavez about no city representatives at the crime initiative meeting. I’m curious where you two stand on crime in our city."We spoke to Mama Denise on Friday's "What Would Mama Do?" about Shreveport's crime problem, the community's stinking thinking, and how citizens can be proactive about their safety at a neighborhood level. Great talk, take a listen!

"Dear Mamas, did you hear about the 30 year old man who refuses to leave his parent’s home? They had to go to court to get him kicked out, and he still refuses to leave? Why would anyone want to stay with their parents when it’s obvious their parents don’t want them there anymore? Do you think lots of parents are having this problem with this current boomerang generation?"What a story! When did this mooching get out of hand? We took this listener submission to Mama Denise on Thursday's "What Would Mama Do?" and got her thoughts on the situation. "What Would Mama Do?" airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

"Dear Mamas, Did you see what transpired between LeBron James and a fan with MAGA hat? And then poor Tomi Lahren? I have told my family and friends perhaps we should not wear clothes showing our support for our own President because it could be dangerous. The hate is palpable. Do you two ever worry since you are on the radio clearly supporting Trump?"We took this listener submission to Mama Denise on Wednesday's "What Would Mama Do?" and got her thoughts on the foul behavior in question. She had plenty to say, take a listen.

"Dear Mamas, I saw the Saturday Night Live opening this weekend where they were honoring the mothers of the cast members for Mother’s Day. A lot of the mamas were complaining that the sketches were too political. Do you think that SNL finally understands what they’ve been doing wrong, or were they simply making fun of mothers everywhere who are tired of the mean Trump jokes?"While Mama Teri took the SNL opener at face value and enjoyed it, Mama Denise had an opposite opinion on its motivations and found it insincere. We got their thoughts on the opener and on the show as a whole on last night's "What Would Mama Do?" Take a listen. "What Would Mama Do?" airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

"Dear Mamas, Have you seen where the high school in New Jersey has ruled that there will be no more tryouts for cheerleading? It seems a parent complaint led to this decision. The new rule means they will take all girls interested. As a cheerleader mom, I have invested time, money and long hours of extra training for my daughter to get the next level. What would you do if this was your daughter's school?"We took this question to Mama Denise on Wednesday's "What Would Mama Do?" and she got F-I-R-E-D up about it. We had a great talk about discipline, accepting failure, and the dangers this kind of inclusion can have across the board. Take a listen. "Dear Mamas, Did you see where there was a restaurant in the U.K. that hands out a laminated 'Polite Policy'? I read that people were offended. What do the Mamas think about this idea?"A restaurant in the U.K. is making waves with its "Polite Policy". Most people are fine with the laminated notice requesting good behavior from their children, but some are offended. We talked to Mama Denise about the policy on last night's "What Would Mama Do?" and she had some words for those offended, and advice for the parents of poorly behaved children. "Did you see the story about that high school girl who wore a Chinese looking dress to prom? People online got angry with her for 'cultural appropriation'? What is that? Is it illegal now to appreciate other cultures and fashions? I thought imitation was the sincerest form of flattery! What’s wrong with people?"On last night's "What Would Mama Do?", we talked to Mama Denise about the prom dress in question, the differences between appreciation and appropriation, and the problem with politically correct culture. Great discussion! Take a listen.

"Dear Mamas, I just wanted to send you this video showing the Alabama football team praying with President Trump on the lawn of the White House. My whole family bleeds purple and gold, but this moment is amazing! Alabama represented the whole SEC with class! I just wish some professional teams would follow their example." This display of faith even had Mama Denise saying "Roll Tide"! We discussed with her on Wednesday's "What Would Mama Do?" and got her thoughts. Listen in."What Would Mama Do?" is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

"Dear Mamas, I keep seeing stories about how all these women are running for office this year. Why do you think so many women are running? Is it because of Hillary? Is it because of the #MeToo thing? Or, is it something else I don’t know about?"A record-breaking amount of women are running for office this year, at least 575 at last count. Why is this? Mama Denise was recently visiting a friend in "Friendlyville" and returned home here to Shreveport, only to have her bubble of happiness popped by bad service, attitude and downright rudeness. Is this a common experience, and if so, can we make Shreveport better if we don't change our quality of southern hospitality? On Wednesday's "What Would Mama Do?" we had a nice talk with the American Mamas, Teri and Denise, about the friendliness deficit in Shreveport/Bossier City, and they had plenty to say! Listen in. This segment is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

"Denise, why do you want to share negative information about our city? I know you mean well but it puts us in a bad light and drives potential business and homeowners away. I am a little disappointed that you don't consider the damage before sharing such information. I hope you receive this in the spirit in which it is intended. Hope all is well.”Over the weekend, Mama Denise received some pushback on her social media posts regarding Shreveport's crime stats. On last night's "What Would Mama Do?, we talked to both of the Mamas, Teri and Denise, about the crime problem in Shreveport, being active in the community, and the importance of neighborhood watch groups. You won't want to miss this one."What Would Mama Do?" is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

"Dear Mamas, did you see the cartoon Jim Carrey drew of Sarah Sanders? How mean! Why would he think that’s okay? Maybe it’s one thing to draw it, but why publish it? Doesn’t it say more about Jim than it does Sarah?"The latest in a line of cartoon attacks from Carrey, the portrait is captioned: “This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked … Monstrous!” On last night's "What Would Mama Do?", we discussed this listener's question with Mama Denise and got her thoughts on Carrey and liberal Hollywood's one-sided rulebook. We spoke to Mama Denise about this misconstrued meeting and got her thoughts on last night's "What Would Mama Do?""What Would Mama Do?" is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.
"Dear Mamas, did you see that video of a Spanish class in a California high school hitting a Donald Trump piñata? Would they have done that with an Obama piñata? What in the world happened to respect in this country?"Even done in jest, there's a time and place for this, and it's certainly not a public school classroom. We took this listener submission to Mama Denise and got her thoughts on last night's "What Would Mama Do?""What Would Mama Do?" is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

On Monday's "What Would Mama Do?", we talked to Mama Denise about a topic that's been on her heart for awhile now, texting and driving."I understand why folks are up in arms over gun control but if they drove my route to work every morning they would be storming Washington over texting and driving. What I experienced on 49 this morning was a daily potential disaster. I need some parents to listen to me before it's too late." We talked to her about the dangers of distracted driving, and the dire consequences kids, and adults, may face if they don't pay attention to the road."What Would Mama Do?" is sponsored by Moor Coffee Company, and airs every weeknight on American Ground Radio.

Listener Submission: "Dear Mamas, I know you two had an opinion on the whole 'Take a Knee' issue, so I'm curious what your thoughts are on the rejection of the veteran's ad, '#PleaseStand', for the Super Bowl. Join the Joyful Courage Tribe in our community Facebook group - Live and Love with Joyful Courage. Raising our children while growing ourselves... ::::: Welcome back to the show! Let me share my own story from the trenches… You aren't the only one who has kids who act like you are ruining their lives when you ask them to help our around the house… AND, it is a beautiful thing when your kids turn it around and own their behavior, right? It is a good thing, yes, but I am getting curious about if I am inadvertently raising a people pleaser….?? A question from the community Mama Denise shares “Literally losing my mind on first day of summer vacation over iPads. I don't have an ounce of energy for a single tool. I'm the worst mom ever, according to my daughter (5y 10mos). And my 7 1/2 yo son "needs this mower" on a farm simulator game. Literally feel like pitching these machines in the dumpster. Thank you for listening.” These are the struggles where we can release most of the load and pull our kids into co-creation. Casey takes Denise's familiar scenario and leads us through the practice of intention, presence and solution. Showing up intentionally, rather than reactively Creating intention and applying it to our lens and presence Noticing the ease of intention when the ride is smooth and the rockiness when things fall apart Creating routines that help kids know what is happening and allowing them to have influence Making agreements to help kids create boundaries Identifying needs vs. privileges. ex. Screen time – it is a privilege Privilege comes after contributions Difference between contribution vs. chores A privilege differs from a reward It's not about “earning”, it's about “management” Guiding kids to have a voice in solutions when they feel an agreement or routine is not working Seeing the tip of the iceberg and KNOW that beneath the surface is a request for boundaries Allowing children a voice means we hold them as contributors to the cause Children are more likely to follow through when they have a voice in the creation of the agreement Introducing offer and counter offer tool – teaches parent how to let go of agenda, control and rigidity Sharing power when stakes are low Resources: Routine Handout Agreement Handout Quotes: “There are ways of being that support us in the journey.” “Everything is an opportunity to grow, to be better, and to be curious.” “Underneath all of the behavior all of the challenges and mischief that shows up is the underlying need for belonging, significance and influence. Our children only have so many years of life to filter and make sense of it.” “In the co-creation of routines and agreements the underlying message is that the child's voice matters.” Stay Tuned: Coming up is our 100th Episode!!!
