Title VI and IX apply to all colleges and universities that accept federal funds, which, as a condition of accepting those funds, agree they will enforce all Federal Civil Rights laws. However, sometimes programs offered by such institutions seem to run afoul of Title VI and IX, and when that happens, a recourse is to file a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights. In this explainer podcast, Dr. Mark Perry, who has filed Title VI and IX complaints against hundreds of colleges and universities across the U.S., joins us to discuss that process. He brings his expertise to give a window into the procedural aspects of this system, what they are, why such complaints may be valuable, and the considerations a potential complainant might want to consider. For those who would like to learn more, independent of this podcast or RTP, Dr. Perry notes he can be reached at mark.perry@aei.org, or via direct message on Twitter at https://twitter.com/Mark_J_Perry.Featuring:Mark Perry, Professor of Economics, University of Michigan-Flint and Resident Scholar, American Enterprise InstituteVisit our website – www.RegProject.org – to learn more, view all of our content, and connect with us on social media.

Description: Title IX was first implemented in the 1960s to rectify discrimination against women on the basis of sex in institutions receiving federal funding. In what can only be described as one of the quickest shifts in American culture, women began to outperform men in both enrollment and success in higher education. What role should Title IX play in promoting equal opportunity today? Are woke colleges and universities misconstruing the original intent of this rule and unlawfully discriminating against men? How does Title VI — a counterpart to Title IX that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin — fit into the picture? In this episode, https://twitter.com/Mark_J_Perry?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor (Mark Perry), a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, joins Naomi and Ian to discuss the history of Title IX and Title VI and to highlight concerning trends that now threaten the original intent of these rules to ensure equal opportunity. Mark has filed 300 Title IX complaints with the office for civil rights, resulting in 144 federal investigations for violations of civil rights laws and more than 30 resolutions in his favor. Have you read the letter to students signed by top leaders of the two major U.S. teachers unions? Chuck Chalberg has an excellent breakdown of how the AFT and NEA are doing their part to train up activists on the taxpayer's dime. Many of us are shocked at the ongoing unrest and violence taking place across our nation. Brian Miller provides some needed historical perspective to remind us that this isn't the first time America has experienced "Days of Rage." One of the more fascinating measures of the volatile times in which we live can be seen in how many companies are actively fleeing business-hostile states. Mark J. Perry explains the reasons for the current exodus from California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York. If you were unlucky enough to discover that your job is not given "preferred" status by government officials, you may know more about how unemployment benefits than you'd like. Peter Suderman has a solid explanation of how the CARES Act, passed by Congress, is making things worse--not better. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loving-liberty/support

The word “diversity” has become a sticky one. In the last fifteen years, a genuine “diversity industry” has sprung up, particularly at colleges and universities in the United States. Higher education institutions across the country have entire departments with dozens of full-time, highly-paid staff members dedicated to the concept. But to what effect? And exactly what kinds of “diversity” are we talking about? Special guest (and regular FEE contributing author) Mark J. Perry joins Antony Davies and James Harrigan to drill down into this and more on this week’s episode of Words and Numbers. Professor is Using Title IX to End Sexist Women Only "Diversity" Programs

Professor Mark J. Perry has filed a complaint against sexist women only "diversity" programs and awards. He says that by only allowing women they are excluding male and non-binary people from these programs and under Title IX it is illegal. In many instance he has won and certain programs and spaces have been closed. Some programs kept their name that said "women's" in the title but opened up to all genders. These programs are typically viewed as fighting for social justice and diversity but when women are the majority of college campuses it is only benefiting those who are already in a position of privilege.
