Ever wonder what Jean-Luc Picard looks like with hair on his head? Find out in “Violations”! It's an all-new episode of ST:TNGeez . . . Once again, the Enterprise D is making like a Galaxy Class Uber and ferrying some folks around the quadrant. This time, it's a trio of Ullians, a race who are able to excavate memories from others using telepathy. Sounds like a fun party trick like pulling a quarter out of someone's ear or guessing their card, but those tricks usually don't put people in comas. Before you can say “Berlinghoff Rasmussen,” Troi is in a coma. The crew is stunned, and then Riker falls into a coma! The crew is shocked, and then Bev falls into a coma! The crew is now actively perturbed and seeking solutions! Hey, you think the Ullians have something to do with it? (Worf did!) Well, duh, but Geordi and Data need to find a way to connect the dots and revive their beloved crewmates before anyone else falls prey to this mysterious malady. What or who could be the cause of this coma plague? Will the victims ever wake up? Is it possible this plot could be any more heavy-handed and obvious? Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

Key Takeaways:Maintain Tone at the Top: Boards should confirm that their commitment to compliance and ethical behavior remains strong and consistent, even with the DOJ's pause on new FCPA investigations. This includes consistent messaging throughout the organization. Review Third-Party Risk Management: Companies should reassess their third-party risk management programs to make sure they are not inadvertently engaging with entities associated with transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) or terrorist organizations. Refresh Risk Assessment: Boards should ask management to perform a thorough risk assessment, with an intentional focus on operations. Geographical Focus: Companies should evaluate the culture and increased risk in regions where they operate, to maintain compliance and mitigate risks associated with these areas. Revisit Whistleblower Processes: Boards should ask to be kept appraised of all whistleblower reports and resolutions. Independent Investigations: In cases where there is a potential threat or pressure to pay a bribe, boards should facilitate independent investigations, involving outside counsel and forensic accountants to maintain objectivity and thoroughness. What if your trade compliance misstep became tomorrow's federal prosecution headline? In this episode, Michael Volkov issues a powerful warning to corporate leaders and compliance professionals: the DOJ is no longer treating trade violations as minor infractions—they're targeting them as fraud under the False Claims Act. With trade compliance now framed as a national security issue, this administration is on a mission to protect domestic industries and punish companies that cut corners. If your organization engages in international trade—especially with China—this episode is a must-listen.You'll hear him discuss:Why corporate leaders should not confuse the pause in FCPA enforcement with a wider drop in corporate prosecutions, as the DOJ is intensifying its focus on other high-risk areas like customs and trade complianceHow the False Claims Act is being used to prosecute companies for tariff evasion, misclassification of goods, and country-of-origin fraud, creating major new exposure for import-heavy businessesThe administration's positioning of trade compliance as a national security priority, which signals tougher penalties and more aggressive enforcement tacticsExamples of recent DOJ cases, including multimillion-dollar settlements with Barco Uniforms, International Vitamins Corporation, and Danco Laboratories, that highlight how quickly companies can become targetsThe expanding role of whistleblowers under new DOJ incentives, making it more likely that internal missteps will be reported and investigatedWhy supply chains involving China and other flagged jurisdictions are under heightened scrutiny, and how companies can prepare for increased oversightThe risks of becoming a public example of trade fraud, and the steps companies should take now to stay ahead of enforcement and protect their brand and bottom lineResourcesMichael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

Send us a textFairfax criminal lawyer Jonathan Katz knows that it is not radical to protest, but instead is among our rights under the Bill of Rights. As an undergraduate alum of Tufts University, Jon Katz opened his eyes and ears all the more to the plight of Rümeysa Öztürk, who is not known to have written or said anything more radical than the decidedly non-radical op-ed she co-authored with three others in the Tufts Daily. Ms. Öztürk has a great team of lawyers -- including our interviewee Mahsa Khanbabai -- and she recently won a federal court order to release her from detention while she fights deportation proceedings. The question arises about which lesser known people facing the same plight will be able to pull together the right legal team. Attorney Khanbabai suggests these relevant links: - Senate Judiciary Committee report on immigration detention https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/SENATE%20JUDICIARY%20COMMITTEE%20RANKING%20MEMBER%20REVEALS%20DEVASTATING%20INSIGHTS%20INTO%20ICE%20DETENTION%20IN%20EXCLUSIVE%20SITE%20VISIT.pdf- Justice for Rümeysa Öztürk financial campaign page- Abuse of migrants at detention centers https://www.laaclu.org/en/news/abuse-migrants-rampant-louisiana-ice-centers-report-finds- Deaths in adult detention https://www.aila.org/library/deaths-at-adult-detention-centers. Reviewing the opinions of Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Yishmael, and Rabbi Yitzchak on lashes and more severe punishments from the previous daf, with some focus on Rabbi Yitzchak's opinion. Plus, Rabbi Yochanan's opinion that one who committed all of the illicit sexual relationships in one period of forgetting or lack of awareness would need to bring a sin-offering for each relationship. But the only way one could violate the prohibition against sleeping with one's sister, who is also one's father's sister, and one's mother's sister - that takes a wicked person who is the son of a wicked person, in terms of violating and violating again, for such relationships to be possible in one person (and then raising the question whether that's one sin-offering or three). [Who's Who: Rabbi Yitzchak] Also, what happens when a person is ritually impure and needs to bring that sacrifice? And what if an impure person did eat from the offering (eg - Shelamim) while impure? To be punished, one still needs a warning from the biblical text.

San Francisco is launching a new program backed by Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom that will issue speeding tickets based on income. The Speed Safety System Pilot Program was signed by Newsom in October 2023 and allows cities across California to use speeding cameras to fine drivers. Those considered lower-income are eligible for a steep discount if they receive a speeding ticket.Violations for speeding range from $50 to $500, but individuals with a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible for a 50% discount, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. Indigent persons, or individuals who are homeless, are eligible for an 80% discount on the speeding ticket.
In the case of State of Idaho v. Bryan C. Kohberger, the defense filed a reply on March 24, 2025, addressing the State's response to their motion to preclude the death penalty due to alleged disclosure violations. The defense emphasizes the extraordinary volume of discovery in this case, noting that over 68 terabytes of data have been provided, which is significantly higher than in comparable cases. They argue that reviewing such an immense amount of information is an insurmountable task within the given timeframe, hindering their ability to prepare an adequate defense. The defense contends that the State's delayed and voluminous disclosures have compromised Mr. Kohberger's right to a fair trial.
