A group of Jeffrey Epstein survivors has filed a class action lawsuit against the Trump administration and Google, alleging that the release of Epstein-related files exposed their private and identifying information to the public. The lawsuit claims the Department of Justice prioritized rapid disclosure of documents over protecting victims' identities, resulting in sensitive personal details of roughly 100 survivors being published. According to the complaint, this exposure violated long-standing protections meant to shield victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, effectively outing individuals who had previously remained anonymous. The survivors argue that even after the government attempted to remove identifying details, the damage had already been done, as the information continued to circulate online through search engines and AI-generated content. They accuse companies like Google of continuing to display and amplify the data despite requests for removal, contributing to harassment, threats, and renewed trauma for victims. The lawsuit seeks financial damages and a court order forcing the permanent removal of the exposed information, framing the situation as a systemic failure that re-victimized those already harmed by Epstein's network.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Epstein survivors sue Trump administration and Google over release of private informationBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.
How are surging cargo crime syndicates and evolving regulatory battles forcing a massive overhaul in how we secure our freight and vet our drivers? Today's episode tackles the serious security threats currently facing transportation professionals! From a broader industry perspective, the sophisticated rise in digital identity fraud, deceptive pickups, and double brokering is undeniably alarming. That's why when it comes to safeguarding the supply chain, we need severe, tough-on-crime penalties, such as Virginia's strict 20-year prison sentence for cargo theft, to act as a real deterrent to offshore syndicates. Let's also delve into the heated debate surrounding work-authorized transporters and the petition to the FMCSA regarding CDL requirements, firmly standing on the principle that a single, standardized federal literacy and safety baseline should apply to every single driver on the road, with no exceptions! In this episode, Robert argues that investors can acknowledge parts of the AI boom look excessive while still participating profitably. He discusses why some AI-related stocks may experience sharp pullbacks, but notes that current market conditions still look far different from the final stages of historic bubbles. He revisits his framework of owning long-term AI "toll roads" while tactically trading AI "shovel sellers," and explains why he believes the broader AI narrative could eventually shift from fear and skepticism toward productivity, infrastructure, and economic benefits. The episode also covers market reactions to a stronger-than-expected jobs report, thoughts on a potential Fed leadership transition, and how he is managing cash and positioning during the current tech pullback.
Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Mackenzie Shirilla has been found guilty of thirty-two out of thirty-six conduct violations inside the Ohio Reformatory for Women — and in every phone call home, she still insists she had a car accident. The record starts quiet. Months without a single citation after arriving in August 2023. Then a steady escalation: unauthorized medication belonging to another inmate, photographs depicting drug use, repeated alterations to prison-issued clothing, concealed contraband, disturbances, violations of video visit rules involving seven flagged calls with a single visitor, and most recently, a flat refusal to carry out a work assignment. A former inmate who served alongside Mackenzie described her as someone who showed no remorse and compared her to the character Regina George — daily makeup, social positioning, as if the facility were a high school cafeteria with a longer dress code. But the violations are only half the picture. Recorded phone calls between Mackenzie and her parents reveal a family locked in a shared delusion. Mackenzie tells her mother Natalie that she does not need to be rehabilitated. Natalie agrees, saying rehabilitation is for “actual criminals.” Mackenzie calls herself the third person harmed by the crash. Natalie calls the family of the young man her daughter killed “evil.” Steve Shirilla, now on leave from his teaching job, argues publicly that his daughter is innocent — while a judge's finding that her actions were deliberate and purposeful sits unchallenged in the court record. During the trial, prosecutors decoded calls in which Mackenzie and Natalie communicated in a private language, and in one of those decoded calls, Mackenzie allegedly asked her mother whether they could tell police she had a seizure.Tony Brueski examines the violations, the calls, the parents, and the psychological pattern that ties them together: a person whose pathology has never been challenged by anyone close enough to matter.Links:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Canadian trucking industry touches almost every aspect of commercial life — most Canadian products on store shelves made at least some part of their journey on the back of a truck. The conditions for drivers who got them there, however, are getting worse. A Globe investigation by Sara Mojtehedzadeh , an investigative reporter at The Globe, and Mahima Singh, a Globe data editor, looked into the concerns raised by drivers and experts in the trucking industry. They found widespread accusations of wage theft and exploitation, violations of labour laws and insufficient training. Sara's on the show to detail the working conditions for drivers , the impact of lax enforcement, and how this jeopardizes safety on the roads. Sara and Mahima will hold a Q&A about their investigation on Wednesday, June 3, at 12 p.m. ET. Send them your questions in advance. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It's Thursday, May 7th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark German authorities upset with Christian YouTubers Officials in Germany are investigating two Christian YouTubers for criticizing Islam. The two young men, Niko and Tino, run a YouTube channel called Eternal Life. They published a video titled “Islam is no peace” in 2024. The Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office is now investigating both of them for allegedly violating Article 166 of the German Criminal Code. Violations are punishable by up to three years in prison. Tino told Apollo News last month, “I don't understand what they're trying to investigate. … People shouldn't have to be afraid to express their opinions and profess their faith in Jesus Christ.” Israel created Special Envoy to Christians over lost credibility The government of Israel created a position of Special Envoy to the Christian World last month. Israel's ties with Christians churches have deteriorated after several recent incidents. In one case, Israeli soldiers destroyed a statue of Jesus in southern Lebanon. In another, Israeli police prevented services at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Palm Sunday during the Iran war. Israel also wants to build ties with young Christian leaders and influencers. The Foreign Ministry plans to bring thousands of these leaders to the country by the end of this year. Vivek Ramaswamy won Ohio GOP primary for governor In the United States, Ohio and Indiana held primary elections on Tuesday. Tech billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy won the Republican primary for governor of Ohio. RAMASWAMY: “We have an historic opportunity to lead Ohio to be the top state in the country, to raise a young family, to give our kids a world class education, and to be the state where we revive this quaint idea that we call the American dream. “And tonight that is very personal to me. My parents came halfway around the world to Cincinnati, Ohio, half a century ago, with nothing to their name. I went to public schools through eighth grade because private schools were not on the table for us. I went to St. X for high school. “My dad worked for a five-figure salary for most of his career at the G.E. plant right off I-75 in Evendale. My mom worked at the V.A. taking care of nursing home patients as well. “And now, after having founded thankfully successful businesses, in a position to call myself the Republican nominee for governor in the very state where I was born and raised. That is the American Dream that makes American exceptionalism possible. I know that American dream exists because I have lived it in this state.” Vivek Ramaswamy will face Democrat Amy Acton in November to replace current Republican Governor Mike DeWine. In Indiana, President Donald Trump endorsed seven challengers to state senators who opposed his redistricting plan. A majority of those Trump-backed candidates won their primaries. Illinois dropped pro-abortion amendment from ballot Officials in Illinois recently dropped a pro-abortion amendment from this year's ballot measures. The amendment would have enshrined the murder of unborn babies as a right in the state's constitution. The Chicago Tribune described the development as a “rare pro-life victory” in the pro-abortion state. Despite this, LifeSiteNews notes, “Illinois is the leading national hub providing abortions for women who live in states where abortion is banned.” Americans fear running out of money more than dying Americans are more afraid of running out of money than they are of dying. That's according to a new study by Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America. The survey found that 67% of Americans say they worry more about running out of money than death. That's up 10 percentage points from 2022. Not surprisingly, a recent Gallup poll found that the top financial concern of American families is the high cost of living. In Matthew 6:33-34, Jesus said “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” CNN founder Ted Turner has died Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, died yesterday at the age of 87. The Ohio-born businessman revolutionized television news. At CNN, he started the first 24-hour cable news channel. The network wrote yesterday, “Turner was also an internationally known yachtsman; a philanthropist who founded the United Nations Foundation; an activist who sought the worldwide elimination of nuclear weapons; and a conservationist who became one of the foremost landowners in the United States.” Turner was married and divorced three times. He endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He was also known for making derogatory remarks about Christians and pro-lifers. In a July 1989 Los Angeles Times article, Ted Turner called pro-lifers “bozos” and laughably claimed that pro-lifers believe that “sex was sinful.” He also said, “A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.” More GenZers claim to be Christians and read their Bibles And finally, Dr. George Barna released new research on the spirituality of Gen Z, the youngest adult generation in America. The report found that more members of the generation are claiming to be Christians. That figure is up five percentage points over the past four years. Similarly, weekly Bible reading is up 10 percentage points. However, Gen Z also has the lowest biblical worldview level of any American generation. Dr. Barna said, “Our research indicates that many young adults are seeking an authentic Christian experience, initially through religious practices, such as attending church services. Many of them are attempting to evaluate what Christianity has to offer without understanding the biblical principles that promote and support those religious practices.” Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, May 7th, in the year of our Lord 2026. It's Tuesday, May 5th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Timothy Reed Kenyan Somalis killed 7 Kenyan Christian farmers On April 25th, International Christian Concern reports that Muslim Somali herders killed seven Christian farmers in Kitui County, Kenya in a raid. The raiders left behind burned homes, scattered belongings, and families struggling to come to terms with the loss. Local church leaders said many of the affected families are now dealing with loss on multiple levels, including loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. Remember Jesus's words in Revelation 2:10. He said, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.” War with Iran has cost America $70 billion The cost of war in Iran continues to rise. The Trump administration announced that the war has cost $25 billion, but that does not include the cost to rebuild destroyed military bases in the Middle East. The Iran War Cost Tracker has the cost of the war pegged at more than $70 billion. That is more than $1 billion dollars a day. Trump removed 300,000 illegals from Social Security rolls The Trump administration is working to reform Social Security by removing illegal aliens off the rolls. Listen to President Trump's latest comments on his protection of Social Security. TRUMP: “Together with the Republicans in Congress, we've removed nearly 300,000 illegal aliens from the Social Security roles. (applause and cheers) And we've removed more than 100,000 migrants from Medicare eligibility: 100,000 and the number is going up. “What we're really doing is saving Social Security because it was so rife with fraud.” Supreme Court rules against race-based Congressional districts In a blockbuster decision, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against apportioning congressional districts by race, effectively neutering a portion of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. Following the decision, a flurry of Republican states, including Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida began working towards redistricting in favor of Republicans. However, Democrats are planning their own redistricting efforts, as both parties remain deadlocked in midterm election jockeying. Supreme Court temporarily allows mail-order abortion drugs In other Supreme Court headlines, it issued an administrative stay on Monday of a lower court ruling, which would have put a stop to the mail order program for the Abortion Kill Pill. The administrative order will hold for a week, while the court gives the Food and Drug Administration opportunity to respond. U.S. public school enrollment is down Public school enrollment is down in the United States — a 900,000-person drop over the last decade. During the same period, Edunomics Lab reports that staffing has actually increased by about the same amount -- 700,000 people or about 12%, ironically. The government school monopoly spends $1 trillion per year on their program, averaging $17,000 per student. Per student costs, adjusted for inflation, have doubled since 1980. $17,000 cost-per-public schooler vs. $1,600 per homeschooler The Homeschool Legal Defense Association surveyed 4,000 homeschool families and found the per-child costs for homeschooling an elementary school student runs around $1,300, and $1,600 for a middle and high school student. That means a family with five children saves the state $85,000 per year in education costs, and then, spends $7,000 of their own money doing it. America's property tax revolt There is somewhat of a property tax revolt going on across the country. Florida lawmakers are proposing an end to local government property tax. Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has suggested something similar. And the states of Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wyoming have other initiatives in process to reform property tax in favor of the taxpayers. 1 Samuel 8 speaks of this tyranny: “[Samuel] said, ‘This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons. … He will take your daughters. … He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage. … And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.” Gas prices have doubled since February U.S. gas prices have almost doubled since late February. Now the average price sits at $4.46 per gallon, up from $2.84 a gallon just two months ago. Idaho requires teachers/doctors to tell parents if child has gender issues The state of Idaho passed a bill that requires teachers and doctors to tell parents if their child is experiencing gender dysphoria. The law, signed by Republican Governor Brad Little, seeks to combat ways in which a child may secretly appear to be the other sex without parental approval. Republican State Senator Ben Toews stated, “A loophole was left in the [previous] law, and it did not mention social transitions, the process by which vulnerable children are led into the pipeline.” Violations of the new law could lead to steep fines and potential loss of professional licenses. Texas waterpark celebrates Islamic festival by restricting park to Muslims There's a $90 million taxpayer-funded waterpark in Grand Prairie, Texas called Epic Waters which is now celebrating the Islamic holiday of Eid-al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice and the second of two main festivals in Islam. It honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command. The Epic Waters park will be restricting the park to Muslims, allowing only Halal food to be sold, and requiring head-to-toe Muslim dress for all swimmers. 90-year-old pro-lifer calls for end to F.A.C.E. Act And finally, Eva Edl, a 90-year-old woman who was placed in a Soviet death camp at a young age, is urging Congress to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances, or F.A.C.E. Act, after she was convicted and put in prison under the Biden administration. Pro-abortion advocates have used the F.A.C.E. Act to jail and silence pro-lifers. Listen to her recent testimony. EDL: “Pro-lifers who continue to put their bodies between the abortionist and innocent victims today will continue to be targeted by this unjust law until it is repealed. And yet, despite knowing this, when the Lord asks you to do something, you just simply do it, no matter the cost. After all, He gave His life to save us.” John 15:13 reminds us, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, May 5th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Just how likely is any given owner-operator to be inspected during the next installment of the Roadcheck inspection event? It's slated for May 12-14 next week, and if the 2025 event provides a roadmap, your chance is about 1 in 5. Just post-Roadcheck last year a few thousand of you weighed in with answer to the question shown in a chart you'll find at https://overdriveonline.com/15824079 21% of poll respondents reported being inspected during the three days of the 2025 event. A lot's been made in some recent years of how routine, really, those three days can feel in certain areas of the country, but the 21%-inspected number is well more than the roughly 15% of owner-operators who reported an inspection of some kind during the fully seven-day late-summer Brake Safety Week ithe prior year in 2024. So maybe it's true: Roadcheck really is more of an all-hands-on-deck sort of inspection event. In this week's Overdrive Radio, sit in on my CCJ colleague and editor Jason Cannon's talk with Travis Baskin, head of regulatory affairs for the Motive company, about the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Roadcheck, and ways owner-ops, drivers and small fleet owners might prepare for a focus on false logs. And not just as a result of the kinds of whole-cloth backend electronic logging device manipulation we're seeing new evidence of just today with a report from Overdrive's Alex Lockie about one driver's experience at a carrier CBS News linked to the Super Ego network of so-called "chameleon" fleets: https://overdriveonline.com/15823957 Regular readers will recall false logs was also the focus last year, CVSA's annual campaign particularly keying in on misuse of personal conveyance, with results that showed hours of service as the single biggest out-of-service violation category. The year overall marked something of a sea change for the false-logs category as inspectors focused on PC misuse and were increasingly aware of ELD manipulation, too. 2026 false-log violation rates are on pace through March to hit the big totals seen in 2025 nationwide. This year, you can expect PC to remain in focus, and CVSA has created a new violation code for backend hours manipulation by a fleet or operator in concert with an ELD provider. So far, our sister data company RigDig's accounting of violations hasn't caught up to the code coming into play in the data just yet -- it began to be issued April 1 this year with the annual OOS criteria update. Yet today we can show you some new rankings of states by their propensity to focus closely on and catch hours violations: https://overdriveonline.com/15824079 Indiana's sitting at the very top of that list, issuing just more than 1 in every 4 violations in 2025 for hours infractions. Behind Indiana, all at higher than 20% hours violations, are Kansas, Oregon, South Dakota, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa and Colorado. On the logbook fraud front, too, it's not just backend manipulation by a fleet or ELD company at issue, Travis Baskin notes. You've probably heard the “ghost driver” terminology, an electronic variant on the extra-logbook-under-seat approach to making it look right. Baskin, speaking to Cannon just ahead of CVSA's annual workshop event early last month, said "this is the type of stuff I know that the CVSA is very well aware of," Baskin said. "I know there's going to be a focus on this type of behavior." Monday, 27 April 2026 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” Matthew 19:9 “And I say to you that whoever, if he should dismiss his wife not upon harlotry, and he shall marry another, he commits adultery. And the ‘having been dismissed,' having married, she commits adultery.” (CG) In the previous verse, Jesus explained that Moses permitted divorce because of the hardness of the people's hearts. However, from the beginning it was not so. Jesus continues, saying, “And I say to you.” His words are not an explanation but a declaration. There is nothing subjectively interpretive in them. In other words, He doesn't say, “Well, Moses says, but this point can be inferred from the Genesis account.” Instead, Jesus is speaking with His own authority to define a matter, which is “that whoever, if he should dismiss his wife not upon harlotry, and he shall marry another, he commits adultery.” This is clear and unambiguous. If a person has a wife and she is faithful to him, he has no biblical right to divorce her. If she does engage with another man, she is obviously an adulteress and has broken the marriage covenant. In such a case, he has the right to divorce her. However, if the man's wife was faithful, and he divorces her and later marries another, he is now guilty of adultery. He has violated the marriage covenant. The precept set forth in Genesis 2 concerning the two being one flesh is, according to Jesus, a binding precept. Likewise, He continues, saying, “And the ‘having been dismissed,' having married, she commits adultery.” It has already been established that if a woman commits adultery during marriage, she has violated the marriage covenant. So, Jesus' words here mean that if a man divorces his wife who has been faithful and she remarries, she is still considered an adulteress. She remained bound to her husband despite the piece of paper he issued to be rid of her. In other words, to avoid being labeled an adulteress, she would have to remain single, even after divorce, or until he died, at which time, her vows to him were annulled. Life application: The words of Jesus in this verse are intensely debated over. Some manuscripts have dropped the final clause, “And the ‘having been dismissed,' having married, she commits adultery.” By doing this, it relieves the tension for some, but when thought through, it isn't relieved at all. The point of Jesus' words relies on the original nature of the Genesis account. It does not rely on what the man or woman wants or does. In other words, once a marriage has taken place, the two have become one. Violations of that precept must be considered from that perspective. If a woman is dismissed by her husband, she is still bound to the original precept of her marriage, meaning identifying with the husband she married, regardless of their active status as a couple. With that having been said, there is a truth that must be considered. In Christ, all sin is forgiven. One law cannot be held above all the others as being apart from Christ's atonement, as if He has forgiven everything but adultery. Therefore, though this is a binding precept, it is not a matter of loss of salvation if violated. Rather, if a believer goes through a divorce and is identified as an adulterer according to Jesus' words, that disobedience will be judged for rewards and losses according to 1 Corinthians 3 and 2 Corinthians 5. Those in Christ are not under law, but grace. However, it should never be the case that grace be thought of as an excuse for license to sin. Such an idea is perverse and should not be considered. God looks at our marriage covenant in the same light He looks at His covenant with us. They are to be considered indissoluble by those who enter them. It is the reason Israel still exists as a nation today. God will fulfill every promise He has made to the people He has covenanted with. Lord God, help us to live honorably in Your presence, living our lives according to Your will and in accord with the precepts set forth by You. May we never consider it ok to tread upon the grace You have bestowed upon us. Help us in this, O God. Amen.
Witness accounts and newly surfaced files describe a pattern in which Jeffrey Epstein repeatedly violated the terms of his post-plea probation and work-release privileges—leaving authorized locations, extending his time outside custody, and interacting with individuals in ways that appeared to contradict the strict limitations he was supposed to be under. These weren't isolated slip-ups; they were described as frequent and, at times, blatant departures from the rules that governed his sentence. Yet despite the volume and consistency of those reported violations, enforcement appeared minimal, creating the impression that the structure meant to monitor and restrict him was either inadequately applied or deliberately loosened in practice. What makes that pattern more controversial is how it intersects with the continued existence of Epstein's non-prosecution agreement (NPA). Critics argue that repeated violations of the conditions surrounding his sentence should have triggered a serious reassessment—if not the outright collapse—of the agreement itself. Instead, the deal remained intact, and no decisive federal action was taken to revisit or revoke it, reinforcing the perception that Epstein was operating under a different standard of accountability. The result is an enduring question at the center of the case: why documented noncompliance didn't lead to the unraveling of the agreement that shielded him, and why the institutions responsible for enforcing those terms appeared unwilling to act even as the violations accumulated.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

This Day in Legal History: Richard Nixon DiesOn April 22, 1994, Richard Nixon died at the age of 81, marking the end of a presidency that left a lasting imprint on American legal history. Nixon's legacy is inseparable from the Watergate scandal, a constitutional crisis that tested the limits of presidential power. The scandal began with a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters and expanded into a wide-ranging investigation of abuse of executive authority. As evidence mounted, legal battles emerged over whether a sitting president could withhold information under claims of executive privilege. The issue came to a head in the landmark Supreme Court case United States v. Nixon, where the Court unanimously ruled that the president must comply with a subpoena to release tape recordings. This decision significantly narrowed the scope of executive privilege, establishing that it is not absolute and cannot be used to obstruct justice. The ruling reinforced the principle that even the president is subject to the rule of law. Facing near-certain impeachment, Nixon resigned in August 1974, becoming the first U.S. president to do so.His resignation demonstrated the strength of constitutional checks and balances, particularly Congress's oversight authority and the judiciary's role in resolving disputes over executive power. In the years that followed, Watergate prompted reforms such as the War Powers Resolution and amendments to campaign finance laws. Legal scholars continue to cite the episode as a defining moment in the development of accountability for high-ranking officials. Nixon's death in 1994 closed a chapter, but the legal principles shaped during Watergate remain central to debates over presidential authority.West Virginia reached an $11 million settlement with Roblox to address concerns about child safety on the platform. The agreement follows a nine-month investigation led by Attorney General JB McCuskey, which found that existing safeguards exposed children to explicit content and potential predators. As part of the deal, Roblox must implement mandatory age verification before users can access chat features, aiming to reduce anonymous misuse. The platform will also restrict adults from contacting users under 16 unless they are verified trusted connections. Additional protections include default safe-content settings for minors and alerts when young users enter private chats for the first time. The settlement allocates funds over several years, including money for public safety campaigns, internet safety specialists, and educational workshops. Roblox stated that the agreement aligns with its broader goal of improving digital safety and collaborating with regulators. This deal comes amid similar actions by other states, including a recent agreement in Nevada with comparable age verification measures. Multiple lawsuits across the country accuse Roblox of failing to prevent adults from exploiting minors on the platform. Many of these cases have been consolidated in federal court in California, where plaintiffs allege harm resulting from online grooming.W.Va. Strikes $11.5M Deal With Roblox Over Kid Safety - Law360A divided U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled that Texas can require public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom, overturning a lower court order that had blocked the law. The decision upheld Texas Senate Bill 10, finding that the requirement does not violate the Constitution's protections against government establishment of religion or its guarantees of religious freedom. The majority reasoned that the law does not force anyone to adopt religious beliefs or interfere with how individuals practice their faith. The challenge was brought by families from various religious and nonreligious backgrounds, who argued that the mandate infringes on their right to control their children's religious upbringing. Their attorney indicated plans to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision, calling it a victory for the state and emphasizing the historical influence of the Ten Commandments. The ruling was not unanimous, with a strong dissent arguing that the court ignored binding Supreme Court precedent. The dissent pointed to a 1980 Supreme Court decision that struck down a similar Kentucky law, suggesting the Texas measure should also be unconstitutional. By reversing the earlier injunction, the appeals court cleared the way for the law to take effect while further appeals are expected.Texas can require Ten Commandments in classrooms, US appeals court rules | ReutersLabor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer stepped down from her role in U.S. Department of Labor amid controversy tied to an internal watchdog investigation into alleged misconduct. The probe reportedly examined claims of an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, along with other workplace concerns, though some allegations were publicly disputed. Her departure follows weeks of media coverage and discussion during a congressional oversight hearing. The White House announced that Chavez-DeRemer will move to a private-sector position, while Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling will serve as acting head of the agency. In public statements, Chavez-DeRemer highlighted her efforts to support workers, expand job training, and address economic issues during her tenure, while administration officials praised her leadership. The situation also involved broader personnel disruptions, including reports that several aides were placed on leave or left their positions. Additional complaints and allegations—some denied or unproven—contributed to scrutiny surrounding her leadership. Her husband was also investigated over separate allegations, though no charges were filed.Chavez-DeRemer's exit adds to other recent Cabinet-level departures during Donald Trump's administration. Lawmakers, including Representative Rosa DeLauro, criticized the situation as a leadership failure and called for a replacement focused on the department's mission. Observers noted that Sonderling could be a leading candidate for the permanent role, though no official nomination has been announced.Trump's Labor Secretary Steps Down - Law360A federal appeals court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, ruled that a nearly 160-year-old ban on home distilling is constitutional, deepening a disagreement with another appellate court. The court said the prohibition is a valid way for Congress to ensure collection of excise taxes on distilled spirits, reasoning that allowing home production could lead to widespread tax evasion. The case was brought by John Ream, who wanted to distill whiskey at home for personal use.The ruling comes shortly after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reached the opposite conclusion, finding the same law unnecessary and unconstitutional. This disagreement between appellate courts—known as a circuit split—raises the likelihood that the U.S. Supreme Court will step in to resolve the issue. Ream's legal team has already indicated plans to appeal. The law at issue dates back to 1868, when Congress enacted it during Reconstruction to combat liquor tax evasion. Violations can carry significant penalties, including prison time and fines. In upholding the ban, the majority opinion emphasized Congress's longstanding rationale that prohibiting home distilling encourages consumers to buy taxed alcohol instead. A dissenting judge, however, argued the case should not proceed because Ream failed to show he faced a real risk of prosecution.US appeals court calls 158-year-old home distilling ban constitutional, creates split | Reuters This is a public episode.
