If you’re catching this one in real time, it is Valentine's week and it's coming in hot! I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about all things love. We're going deep and talking specifically about how to pursue your purpose and calling in business while maintaining a strong relationship with your spouse or your significant other. Sometimes it can feel like a tall order to manage it all. It's way too easy to put the people that we love most on the back burner because we take for granted the fact that we think they're always going to be there. Gerard Brown and Jessie Artigue, the married hosts of the Marriage is Funny podcast, came on the show and I loved this chat! They've committed to pursuing Great Love over perfect love and have made it their mission to find the humor in every mess. The realness of these two make it really easy to see that it's truly not about having the perfect relationship, it’s about finding the ways to prioritize our relationships while we're navigating other parts of our life. Head over to the show notes for the links and resources mentioned in today's show and to connect further with all 3 of us! Thanks for being here! SHOW NOTES: www.ElizabethHartke.com/podcast/064

Do you love to storm out when you’re fighting with your spouse? Maybe get a good door slam in and draw things out a bit? Conflict happens. Especially with those partners we love so much and that’s exactly what we’re talking about today with The Peppers. Gerard Brown and Jessie Artigue launched the now popular ‘Marriage is Funny’ podcast just two days after a serious discussion about divorce. Four years later, they credit the health of their connection to a podcast community that developed in response to the radical vulnerability they bring to their listeners each week. They refuse to claim the title of “RELATIONSHIP EXPERTS” because they continue to figure things out just like everybody else. Residing in sunny Long Beach, CA, Gerard and Jessie believe that talking things out and tight bear hugs fix (almost) anything, have committed to what they call ‘Great Love,’ and strive to find the humor in every mess.  As a special gift, Jessie and Gerard are sharing their free video series about the three “marriage myths” that nearly ruined their relationship with MSW listeners at meetthepeppers.com/strugglingwell! WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT: how Jessie and Gerard’s struggling marriage lead them to start their podcast how we can grow in relationships through conflict having conflicts well better communication by changing the language around your internal story reframing marital myths grieving unmet expectations advice for making friends as a couple supporting a partner with an anxiety disorder LINKS MENTIONED: Brene Brown: The Call to Courage Three “Marriage Myths” video series MarriageHelp.org CONNECT WITH THE PEPPERS: website | instagram | podcast | twitter CONNECT WITH EMILY: website | instagram | facebook | patreon EPISODE SPONSORS: BeeKeepers Naturals: save 15% on your first order when you visit beekeepersnautrals.com/msw or use promo code MSW at checkout Invisawear: get $10 off your first purchase + free 2-day shipping when you visit invisawear.com/msw Noom: start your free trial today at noom.com/msw Baked by Melissa: get 15% off your order when you visit bakedbymelissa.com and use promo code MSW at checkout SUPPORT THE SHOW: Patreon  SHARE THE STRUGGLE! What a great time i had speaking with Joanne Wilson! Podcaster, neuropsychotherapist, counselor, blogger, radio personality, writer, wife, mom of 3...I think I would get a hernia again holding her business card! She really provided a lot of insight into the workings of the brain and how to keep a marriage strong. But I'm positive that those of you who have read her writings or listened to her radio appearances or podcasts already knew that! (Also, her website is worth checking out, too) You can tell that she really cares about people and wants to help those who need it. LOVE her mantra of "It is never too late to begin.". How true is that for all of us?? People like her make me glad that I get to do this. (Okay I think I've gushed enough...do I get a free "Is This Love?" t-shirt now?) But seriously, I consider myself very lucky to have interviewed her. Plus! Chemistry without Bunsen burners! Jo tries not to hit her husband's car! Conversation starters that won't land you in court! The sherpa's parents give marital advice! Plus, a long-distance dedication that didn't need Casey Kasem! Only a few episodes left until the Season 1 finale, where we will find out who shot JR, who the one-armed man is, and if there are brain cells to be found on "Bachelor In Paradise"!
