In this exciting episode of Reading with Your Kids, host Jed Doherty takes listeners on two incredible literary journeys that celebrate unique perspectives and powerful storytelling. First up is Melissa Hart, author of "Down Syndrome Out Loud," a groundbreaking middle-grade book that shatters stereotypes about people with Down syndrome. Drawing from personal experience with her brother Mark, Hart shares inspiring stories of individuals like Chris Nikitch, the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Iron Man Triathlon, and Isabella Tejada, a talented fashion designer from Guatemala. The book challenges misconceptions and highlights the incredible achievements of people with Down syndrome, emphasizing the importance of inclusion, understanding, and seeing beyond disabilities. In the second segment, Katie Kirby introduces readers to Lottie Brooks, the lovable protagonist of her hilarious middle-grade series "The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks." Following an 11-year-old navigating the awkward world of middle school, Kirby's books capture the universal experiences of tweens - friendship struggles, social challenges, and the quest to fit in. With eight books already published and a potential TV adaptation on the horizon, Lottie has become a relatable best friend to countless young readers. Both conversations underscore the power of representation in children's literature. Hart's book provides crucial visibility for people with disabilities, while Kirby's series offers comfort to tweens experiencing the universal challenges of growing up. These authors demonstrate how storytelling can build empathy, challenge assumptions, and create connections across different experiences. Whether you're looking for an inspiring read about determination or a laugh-out-loud journey through middle school mishaps, this episode offers something for every young reader and the adults who support them. Juggling podcasting and personal life can feel like trying to balance on a three-legged stool while juggling flaming torches. In this episode, I look into the not-so-secret ingredients for maintaining a healthy work-life balance as a podcaster. We kick things off with a hard-hitting question: what happens when your love for podcasting starts to mess with your health and relationships? It's a real thing, folks, and I've seen it happen. I share my personal stories, including the ups and downs of my own marriages, and throw in some sarcastic wisdom learned from the school of hard knocks. I'm not claiming to be relationship experts, but we've been around the block a few times. I break down a simple yet effective framework for content creators: health, attitude, and support. Yes, I know, it sounds like a motivational poster, but stick with me. If you're not healthy enough to hit record, or if your attitude sounds like you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, guess what? Your podcast is gonna suck. And don't even get me started on the importance of having a supportive partner who doesn't roll their eyes every time you mention your latest podcast episode. I share tips on how to set expectations with your spouse, maximize your time, and avoid those sneaky time-sucking distractions like binge-watching YouTube shorts at 2 AM. Trust me, your future self will thank you. By the end, you'll walk away with practical advice on how to keep your relationships intact while you chase your podcasting dreams. From date nights to timeouts during arguments, I've got you covered. It's all about being intentional and proactive in nurturing your personal life while you're busy building your podcast empire. And let's be real, no one wants to end up in a messy divorce because they spent too much time talking to a mic instead of their partner. So grab your headphones and let's get to it!Links referenced in this episode:schoolofpodcasting.comnotejoy.comtodoist.comvidiq.comVidIQ Short Video About Thumbnails and Titles.schoolofpodcasting.com/contactThe Seven Habits of Highly Effective People BookLove and Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately NeedsMentioned in this episode:Check Out Dave's Newsletter With Behind the Scenes ContentIn each issue of Podcasting Observations, I share my thoughts on what is happening in the podcasting space, my latest content, and things that have caught my eye. What if the reason your business isn't growing has nothing to do with your systems or your skills and everything to do with how you see yourself? In property management, we're experts at holding it all together. Juggling the inspections, the emails, the team questions, the urgent calls. We're flat out keeping the wheels turning. But somewhere along the way, we start to shrink. We default to ‘doing mode' and forget how to lead with purpose, confidence, and presence. We tell ourselves we need more time, better templates, or the right hire for team, but what if the real work starts with stepping up and being seen?Leadership isn't about being louder. It's about being truer. And sometimes the scariest thing isn't failing, it's showing up as who we really are. This episode is a reminder that your experience, your story, and your way of doing things are enough and they might just be the thing someone else needs. In this episode I chat with Andy Reid, who is a real estate coach, keynote speaker, author, and former auctioneer who knows exactly what it means to go from playing small to owning your space in the industry. He shares the behind the scenes of writing his book, navigating imposter syndrome, and why so many property managers are undervaluing what they bring to the table.“A lot of the time, imposter syndrome hits us like a ton of bricks. But here's the truth, millions of people know what you know. You didn't get the book deal because of what you know. You got it because of who you are.” - Andy ReidWe explore:What's really behind imposter syndrome and how to move through itWhy values should reflect who you are not just what sounds professionalThe difference between credibility and relatability and why both matterWhat Gen Z employees need to stay loyal and it's not just flexibilityThe truth about failure, and how to stop fearing itHow to speak to your clients and team in a way that landsWhy your BDM is the most important first impression your brand hasThe problem with “just doing the job” and what it means to lead with purposeWhy property management is one of the most essential industries and how we need to start treating it that wayKylie's Resources:Property Management Growth School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/TPM-BDMSchool Digital Marketing School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/digitalschool That Property Mum Courses: https://www.thatpropertymum.com.au/courses/ The PM Accelerate Membership: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/accelerate Book a Strategy Call with Kylie: https://calendly.com/kylie-tpm/coaching-call Kolmeo: https://kolmeo.com/ Sensor Global: https://sensorinsure.com/ https://sensorglobal.com/ HD&U Sales Bundle:

In this episode, we dove headfirst into the swirling waters of TypeScript, its real-world use cases, and where it starts to fall short—especially when it comes to security. Joining us from sunny Tel Aviv (and a slightly cooler Portland), we had the brilliant Ariel Shulman and security advocate Liran Tal bring the heat on everything from type safety to runtime vulnerabilities. We started off with a friendly debate: Has TypeScript really taken over the world? Our verdict? Pretty much. Whether it's starter projects, enterprise codebases, or AI-generated snippets, TypeScript has become the de facto standard. But as we quickly found out, that doesn't mean it's perfect.Key Takeaways:-TypeScript ≠ SecurityWe tend to trust TypeScript a bit too much. It's a build-time tool, not a runtime enforcer. As Liran pointed out, “TypeScript is not a security tool,” and treating it like one leads to dangerous assumptions.-Type Juggling is Real (and Sneaky)We explored how something as innocent as using as string on request data can open the door to vulnerabilities like HTTP parameter pollution and prototype pollution. Just because your IDE is happy doesn't mean your runtime is.-Enter Zod – Runtime Type Checking to the Rescue?Zod got some love for bridging the dev-time/runtime gap by validating data on the fly and inferring TypeScript types. But even Zod isn't foolproof. For example, unless you're using .strict(), extra fields can sneak past your validations, leading to mass assignment bugs.-Common Developer FallaciesWe discussed the misplaced confidence developers have in things like code coverage and TypeScript alone. One of the big takeaways: defense in depth matters. Just like testing, layering your security practices (like using Zod, type guards, and proper sanitization) is key.-TypeScript Best Practices Are EvolvingFrom discriminated unions to avoiding any, from using Maps over plain objects to prevent prototype pollution—TypeScript developers are adapting. And tools like modern Node.js now support type stripping, which makes working with .ts files at runtime a bit easier.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/javascript-jabber--6102064/support.

We've been making some big decisions this week. Juggling so many things, it's been so important to step back and consider the best way to move forward. Often times it's so easy to get wrapped up in the chaos, and not realize that fatigue and burnout has taken over. As parents and professionals we can spread ourselves too thin, and not realize we're giving 5% of ourselves to 100 things instead of focusing on doing a few things amazingly well. We think it's important for everyone to read those signs, and take a break when self care and time to refocus is needed. Rearranging thoughts, and taking time consider next steps is a much needed step.
