Great love motivates great actions, as we clearly see in John 3:16.
We were dead in our transgressions. We were dead in our sins. Because of his great love, God who is rich in mercy has saved us from our sins!

Today, I'm honored to share a conversation with Sharon Eubank, the Global Humanitarian Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and now, the author of a beautiful new book called Doing Small Things with Great Love: How Everyday Humanitarians Are Changing the World. For nearly three decades, Sharon has led humanitarian efforts in more than 190 countries, helping millions through projects that span from emergency relief to long-term community development. In her new book, she distills what she's learned into 12 guiding principles — lessons that remind us that each of us is most powerful where we live, that real help is always an exchange, and that service can be one of the most joyful things we do. We spoke about what it means to serve with dignity, how small acts can ripple across the world, and how faith and compassion can unite us even in divided times. Her message is one that I know will resonate with everyone in our community. Big thanks to Sharon for sharing so much with us!
In a special bonus episode, author Sally Lloyd-Jones and voice actor Sir David Suchet offer a behind-the-scenes look at their collaboration on “Jesus, Our True Friend.” They delve into their individual approaches to portraying biblical figures, emphasizing the importance of simplifying stories for children without oversimplifying them. The episode also highlights their shared anticipation of hearing Jesus' laugh and their conviction that everything they know about God points to love. Quotes “Sometimes I think in all that we give children, we forget to give them hope, and we are in danger of putting all the emphasis on them and what they're supposed to be doing. And that just leaves you in despair because that's the moral code and we can't live up to it. I just wanted them to have [Jesus, Our True Friend] that would tell them, ‘You have a true friend and He's with you and He loves you.'” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “As a little girl, I had this wrong idea about God. I thought he was hard and cruel and angry and about the rules. And it's so wrong, isn't it? [Jesus, Our True Friend] shows God's heart that we know comes through His son, Jesus.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “Being simple isn't simplistic. In my writing, I have to distill down, but I must never dumb down. I must always get to the heart of the truth.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “We're told in the Bible that we see God through Jesus. My goal was to show how kind God the Father is and God the Son. And it's all coming from joy, that's how the world began.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “It's all love. God is love.” - Sir David Suchet “In the West, we try to be rational and understand everything, and unless something equals something else, we're not content. But with faith, with spirituality, one has to learn to be content living with mystery.” - Sir David Suchet “You have to be known to feel the love, don't you? If He knows you completely and He loves you completely, then there's huge comfort.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones Resources Mentioned in This Episode Jesus, Our True Friend The Jesus Storybook Bible The Story of God's Great Love collection David Suchet Hercule Poirot Madeleine L'Engle Jerusalem Chamber of Westminster Abbey C.S. How can humanitarian organizations respond more effectively to both natural disasters and systemic inequities around the globe? What is the role of empathy, listening, and local leadership in disaster response? In this episode of Associations Thrive, host Joanna Pineda interviews Sharon Eubank, Executive Director of Humanitarian Services of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sharon discusses:How the Church's humanitarian mission is an outward expression of faith, guided by the principle of loving all people regardless of geography, faith, or politics. The global priority of supporting children under five, including maternal health, vaccinations, nutrition, clean water, and early development. How public health leadership from women in the 1800s shaped their modern initiatives. Why development efforts must be locally led and how assumptions from outside can lead to ineffective or even harmful aid.The impact of intensifying global disasters and responding to seven “100-year” disasters in just one year. The scale of their work: over 3,800 projects, $1.45 billion spent, and 6.6 million volunteer hours across 192 countries. Her new book, Doing Small Things with Great Love, and the key principle that “money is only half the answer.”Her leadership principle: “My solution to your problem will always be wrong. The answer is inside you.”How anyone can start helping by simply visiting their local school or city council and asking, “What do you need?”References:LDS Humanitarian Services WebsiteGet Sharon's brand new book!

Many in the church today, lack assurance. Many religions in the world teach a works based salvation. Christianity is the only "religion" in the world in which God provided all that is needed for salvation and reconciliation to God, all that is left for us is to believe what God has done. Assurance: What is this great truth and what is this great love. God's love is not earned, it is freely given. Christian, your God loves you with an everlasting love.
Sharon Eubank is the Global Humanitarian Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since 1985, the organization has donated billions of dollars in assistance and millions of volunteer hours in 191 countries. Sharon often speaks in global settings, including the G-20 Interfaith Forum, Chatham House, and United Nations conferences on sustainable development. Her topics include early nutrition and literacy as the foundation of all other humanitarian interventions, the necessary power of interfaith networks, and volunteerism as an instrument of peace. Her commitment includes deep respect for people of many other faiths. Her hobbies include trying out homemade pie recipes, Wordle, and anything related to NASA's James Webb telescope. What happens when a "perfect" relationship hits its first major conflict? In this powerful examination of Song of Solomon chapter 5, we explore the moment when everything goes wrong between two people who deeply love each other. The passage takes us right to the heart of relationship breakdown – he arrives home late, she's prepared for an intimate evening but chooses resentment over reconciliation, and what could have been resolved with a few steps to the door becomes a painful journey through the city streets seeking restoration. It's a story that feels uncomfortably familiar to anyone who has ever chosen pride over forgiveness.Through this ancient text, we uncover six relationship problems that still plague us today: prioritizing work over presence, questioning if someone deserves our kindness, the painful irony of longing for space until we get it, pursuing reconnection when someone is unavailable, experiencing unexpected trauma, and watching private struggles become public pain. But more importantly, we discover God's four-step blueprint for healing broken relationships: Repent, Reconcile, Reconnect, and Renew. What makes this message so powerful isn't just its practical wisdom for marriage and friendships, but how it reveals God's heart for reconciliation. When we understand that our own relationship with God follows this same pattern – where He pursues us despite our closed doors and cold hearts – we gain a new perspective on forgiveness. We're reminded that Christ didn't just tell us to fix our relationships; He showed us how by becoming "a friend of sinners" who reconciles us to Himself.Whether you're navigating marriage difficulties, friendship tensions, or family conflicts, this message offers both practical tools for fighting fair and the spiritual foundation for lasting reconciliation. Because ultimately, the goal isn't winning arguments but experiencing the righteousness of God in our relationships. This essay presents Doug Scott's psychospiritual framework called "The Tripolar Self," which integrates Richard Rohr's teachings on the True Self/False Self with the perennial wisdom of the Law of Three. The framework consists of three elements: The Significant Self: The agential self that makes meaning of experiences and oscillates between two depths. The Floating Self: Corresponds to Rohr's "false self"—operating from a rigid, fragile perspective focused on validation and control. Its ethos is "transcend and exclude." The Anchored Self: Represents Rohr's "true self"—our deepest identity beneath all roles and personas. Its ethos is "include and transcend." The Law of Three explains transformation through three phases: contrast (recognizing differences between our Floating and Anchored Selves), tension (experiencing the pull between them), and resolution (integrating both aspects from the perspective of the Anchored Self). Transformation occurs primarily through "Great Love and Great Suffering," both requiring vulnerability and surrender of control. The essay explains how living primarily from the Floating Self creates constant struggle for validation, while operating from the Anchored Self brings groundedness and the ability to hold paradox. The goal isn't to eliminate the Floating Self but to redeem it, using it as a vehicle for service from the perspective of the Anchored Self. The essay concludes that life's purpose isn't the pursuit of happiness but the discovery of meaning—learning to "die well and often" by surrendering to the Anchored Self while using the Floating Self to do good in the world.

With so much negativity spewed by the media, each month we share examples of individuals who are grateful for all they have, joyful in all they do and profoundly impactful in the communities where they serve. This month's On Fire For Good honoree's journey is remarkable and his professional impact is stunning, but what he celebrates most are the three letters signifying his achievements behind his name.
