Choco4Peace supports constructing and sustaining peace in post-conflict regions through the empowerment of women, youth, and indigenous people in the cacao sector by providing access to markets, finance, capacity building, and technology. Choco4Peace is launching a campaign to fund its pilot project and grow the movement around peacebuilding in Colombia. They are partnering with Cacao 70, a premium chocolate maker in Montreal, using cacao grown by ex-cocaine producers and war victims in Tumaco, Colombia, the largest coca-producing region in the world. Choco4Peace are offering a sponsorship opportunity with perks including: • One hectare of fino de aroma cacao trees, cultivated in the Tumaco region by ex-cocaine producers and war victims (approximately 1,000 trees), including 3-5 varieties of fruit-bearing shade trees. • 4 premium, 70% dark chocolate bars per person per year for four years, up to 400 bars total per year. • One hand-made wooden chocolate box per person (up to 100), to keep or give as a gift. Matt Whiteman is the vocalist and frontman for Red Tide Rising, a Denver-based band that slammed onto the national music scene in 2012 when they hit the road with In This Moment on the band’s non-festival ‘Blood’ tour dates, which also included one date with Hatebreed. The band then struck a deal with a small independent label, Spat! Records, for a digital release of two singles, “Finding Home” and Inferno. In early 2013, they recorded their first full length album released through DeathBox Records. In 2014, Red Tide Rising has continued their domination of concert stages across North America and are currently on tour with Drowning Pool.
John Coward served in Nigeria in 1970 as a University lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University. Eva Murray was an elementary school teacher for 10 years before transforming her life with a CUSO placement. After going back to school for a sociology degree, Eva accepted a placement in Nigeria as a teacher. She worked for the Ministry of Education as an education officer at a teacher training college. Sheila and Howard Avery spent two years with CUSO-VSO in Thailand. Howard worked in rural agriculture projects, helping people develop and grow better seeds and crops. Peter Ackhurst and his wife served with CUSO-VSO in 1969-71 in Tanzania. Peter worked with the Department of Natural Resources of Tanzania as a forester.
