Send us Fan MailIn this edition of the Subie Scoop I give a visual recap of the event with Subaru of America from Overland EXPO West 2026 in Flagstaff, Arizona. This was such a great trip meeting new people and seeing people I hadn't seen since last year at Overland EXPO East in Virginia.Camp Subaru was elevated this year and was such an amazing space put together for all the campers and others who were truly blessed to experience Camp Subaru! The food was AMAZING!!! Not your typical camp food, this was gourmet food we all experienced! So, so good!!The space for Subaru at the EXPO was also elevated with a permanent structure for the pet adoption, an area for genuine Subaru accessories, and more space for all the vehicles and people to move around with ease. There were three factory vehicles, all Wilderness editions; Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback. The Forester Hybrid that Carey Mtn Subi drove in the Rebelle Rally was also featured in the booth along with two owner vehicles, a Crosstrek Wilderness driven by Mercedes and Andy of Crankshaft Culture and a Forester Sport driven by Chris Silverroo Offroad. There is more content to come from this event, so stay tuned…Overland EXPO Websitehttps://www.overlandexpo.com/Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/overlandexpo/

Get the latest updates from our LinkedIn page! https://onelink.to/treesandlinesWelcome back to another episode of the Trees & Lines podcast. Joe DeLong, Forester for the City of Westerville Electric Division, joins hosts Philip Charlton, Ph.D. and Tej Singh to discuss how a small municipal utility reduced tree-caused outages by 41%.Joe shares his journey from climbing trees in the field to leading the vegetation management program for Westerville, a public power utility serving just 12 square miles. Faced with areas that hadn't been touched in over 10 years and limited resources, Joe implemented satellite imagery, standardized ANSI practices, and built a comprehensive tree replacement program that turned pushback into community buy-in.The conversation covers how satellite imagery integrated with existing city systems to create visibility across the entire system, why Joe maintains both satellite data and a manual tracking backup system, how a free tree replacement program reduced resident complaints and improved urban canopy, and why requiring all crew members to become certified arborists elevated the entire team's capabilities.Joe also discusses the challenges of working with limited budgets, the importance of data-driven decision making, and how technology like AI and species identification is shaping the future of municipal vegetation management. From reclaiming overgrown rights-of-way to planting trees every Friday in the fall, Joe's approach proves that small utilities can achieve big results with the right strategy. Also, Paul shares his review of the Ferrari Roma. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Forester and scientist Suzanne Simard is well known for her landmark 1997 paper, which demonstrated that two distinct species of trees could share resources. At the time, it turned traditional Western forestry thinking on its head. Instead of the Darwinian view of trees as being in competition with each other, it introduced the idea that these trees may actually help each other, and that industrial logging practices may be missing the forest for the trees. In recent years, Simard has been advocating for Indigenous knowledge as the only way to save the Earth and its forests. Environmental reporter Erica Gies spent some time in the field with Simard and her colleagues, looking into her latest project, The Mother Tree Project, which seeks to find the most sustainable form of forestry for both people and ecosystems. Gies joins the Mongabay Newscast to explain what she learned from Simard and why she advocates Indigenous knowledge and systems, which are governed by rules of reciprocity. A shift in her thinking occurred when she read the dissertation of fisheries ecologist Teresa Sm'hayetsk Ryan, who now works with Simard. "She realized that, you know, the people were also a very important part of the complex forest relationships," Gies says. "Which is much more of a reciprocity kind of mentality. If you take, you also give back. There is a responsibility to care for the system. Because if you don't, and if you overexploit it, it would be really easy to starve, right?" Please take a minute to let us know what you think of our podcast, here. Listen to our previous conversation with Erica Gies here. Moderator: Gunnar OesterreichMusik: Mattias Klasson/Daniel OlsenDistribution: AcastSamarbetspartners: Life Genomics, Gröna Gårdar, FunmedHitta allt om podden: Websida: https://spannandemoten.se/Instagram: @spannandemotenFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/spannandemotenLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gunnar-oesterreich/Kontakt: gunnar@oesterreich.se eller via sociala medier Hosted on Acast.
Understanding Timber and Timberland Investment with John Ross Havard Most people who own timber have no idea what it is actually worth or what it takes to harvest it. John Ross Havard, a consulting forester and land agent based in Alabama with National Land Realty, breaks down the realities of owning timberland for private landowners who make up roughly half of all timberland ownership in the country. John covers why small-acreage timber is harder to monetize than most people assume, what the minimum acreage and access requirements look like before a harvest makes financial sense, how thinning cycles work for planted pine, and why clearcuts get a bad reputation they do not always deserve. He also explains the difference between TIMOs and REITs for investors who want timber exposure without owning land outright, and why the best buys right now are properties priced as pure timberland with untapped recreational potential. A recognized industry expert, Brad has advised Fortune 500 companies and high-growth brands on complex global transportation initiatives, from network design and technology selection to implementation and value realization. His background spans senior roles in consulting, software, and shipper operations, giving him a uniquely balanced perspective on strategy and execution. Brad is a frequent industry speaker and thought leader on TMS, visibility, and logistics innovation. About JBF Consulting JBF Consulting is a leading logistics strategy advisory and technology integration firm that partners with shippers to transform their logistics and supply chain execution operations. For over two decades, our client-centric approach and alliances with best-of-breed solution providers have ensured that every strategy and solution we deliver drives measurable impact, long-term success, and customer satisfaction. Key Takeaways: Freight Tech Strategy: Avoiding the Implementation Trap In "Freight Tech Strategy: Avoiding the Implementation Trap with JBF's Brad Forester", Joe Lynch and Brad Forester, Founder and Managing Partner of JBF Consulting, discuss the critical need for a strategic roadmap to ensure logistics technology delivers real ROI rather than becoming a costly mistake. The Trap is Set Early: Implementation failures (going over budget or missing ROI) are usually symptoms of a missing strategy months prior, rather than errors made during the setup itself. Strategy as Insurance: Investing just 1% to 2% of your budget in a strategic assessment acts as an insurance policy, potentially mitigating up to 80% of common implementation risks. "Slow is Steady, Steady is Fast": Rushing to execute without "future-casting" (planning for growth or acquisitions 5–10 years out) leads to the "$10 million mistake"—having to rip out and replace a system that no longer fits. Create a Shipper Profile: Use a "matchmaking" approach to tech. A tool that works for a retail giant might fail for a bulk chemical shipper; you must find the specific vendor that matches your unique mode mix. The Hybrid Tech Trend: Large shippers are increasingly owning the software and data while outsourcing physical operations, allowing them to switch 3PLs without losing their historical data or visibility. Beware of Shiny Objects: Avoid "AI for AI's sake." Don't buy a hammer and then go looking for a nail; ensure any new tech solves a defined problem statement rather than just chasing industry hype. Phase Two is a Myth: Brad warns that "Phase Two never comes." If you don't build the necessary capabilities into the initial launch, the project often stalls at 75% completion, and the promised ROI is never realized. Hybrids aren't the backup plan anymore—they're the headline. We break down Consumer Reports' 2026 winners, from the Civic Hybrid's sharp steering and 44 mpg to the Camry's 48 mpg and old-school tactile controls that make daily driving easier. Subaru's Crosstrek and Forester win on ride quality, visibility, and confidence in bad weather, while Toyota's mid-sized SUV pick nails cargo space and comfort with an easygoing 35 mpg hybrid. For luxury shoppers, the Lexus NX balances a calm cabin with intuitive controls and a hybrid that smooths the surge.Trucks and EVs share the spotlight too. The Ford Maverick proves you can get real utility without parking-lot fatigue, pairing a spacious cabin with hybrid efficiency that saves cash every week. The F-150 continues to deliver with a gem of a V6 and smart touches like a tailgate that doubles as a workbench. On the electric side, Tesla's Model Y refresh aims squarely at daily comfort—acoustic glass, a calmer ride, better materials—while keeping the speed, range, and Supercharger access that define its appeal. We also cover the news drivers need now: recalls for windshield bonding, high-voltage battery risks, failing displays, and rearview camera glitches. A quick VIN check at safercar.gov can save a headache later. Then we have some fun with auction shockers: a $710K Ford GT, a six-figure classic Bronco, and attainable icons like a '49 Chevy 3100 and a '73 Super Beetle that prove charm still sells. Along the way, we touch on dealer trust rankings, shifting work policies at major automakers, and a heartwarming dealership story that turned a driver's clapped-out Civic into a fresh start.Hit play to get smart on what to buy, what to avoid, and what might tempt your heart more than your wallet. Foresters know degraded forests all too well. You're out on a woods-walk with an enthusiastic landowner, but your eyes go straight to the poor growing stock, invasive plants, and eroded forest soils – the fingerprints of past degradation. Regardless, you set about the complex task of developing a prescription that will nudge this forest towards a brighter future. Foresters don't always think of themselves as restorationists, but in many ways, the tools of silviculture are the tools of restoration. In this episode of SilviCast, we dive into the science and practice of forest restoration with John Stanturf, visiting professor at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and Senior Forest Restoration Specialist with InNovaSilva. With more than 30 years of experience researching forest restoration in both temperate and tropical forests around the world, John brings a global perspective to the question of what it means to restore a forest. A Clare forester has described the over €2 million issued to forest owners in Clare as "pitiful". The payment has been issued under the annual income tax free forestry premium payments related to 4,840 hecatares of land across the county. In total, €23.5m has been paid out by the Government to more than 6,500 forest owners across the country. Darragh-based forester and former Ennis councillor, Brian Meaney, says in comparison to those received by beef and dairy farmers, the grants are piecemeal.

Forester and timber consultant Kraig Moore (KY/TN) breaks down the 2025 hardwood landscape: prices up roughly 3% YoY overall (net flat after inflation), sharp species splits (yellow-poplar +~20%, sugar maple +20–30%, white oak −~11% YoY but +~52% over 5 years; walnut +~85% over 5 years), and fragile mill capacity after 100+ sawmill closures in two years. He explains how tariffs, China's historic pull for ~40% of U.S. lumber, and production shifting to Vietnam (labor ~⅓ cheaper than China) are reshaping demand. For landowners, the play is smart silviculture, competition-driven quality, patch clear-cuts/group selection, avoiding diameter-limit cuts, and aligning to mills within ~60–90 miles, to grow value and keep white oak (bourbon barrel essential) regenerating amid maple/beech pressure. Kentucky is ~50% forested, and with interest rates easing and housing starts improving, Kraig is cautiously bullish on hardwoods as a diversification pillar. Episode takeaways: Market snapshot: Hardwood prices ~+3% YoY overall (inflation-adjusted ≈ flat), with big winners (yellow-poplar, sugar maple) and laggards (hickory; white oak down YoY but strong 5-yr trend; walnut dominant long-term). Capacity risk: 100+ sawmills gone in two years; if demand pops, supply could choke, pushing prices up fast. Trade shift: China historically bought ~40% of U.S. lumber/logs; tariffs drove processing to Vietnam (labor ~⅓ cheaper than China), altering log vs. lumber economics. Profit strategy for landowners: Manage for competition (natural pruning/straightness), use patch clear-cuts/group selection, avoid diameter-limit cuts, and time sales to species cycles. Operational realities: Best ROI when mills are within ~60–90 miles; steep terrain or helicopter logging crush margins. White oak future: Main challenge is regeneration, not overharvest, control shade-tolerant maple/beech, open canopy on the right aspects, and keep foresters involved. Two very different roads, one clear question: what actually works for everyday drivers? We put miles on the 2025 Subaru Forester Premium Hybrid and the refreshed Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD to find out, comparing real-world efficiency, tech usability, comfort, and cost. Along the way, we pull apart the numbers you care about—mpg versus range, tow ratings, cargo usability—and the little things that make or break ownership, like whether your phone stays put on the charger. We start with the Forester Hybrid's practical perks: wide-opening doors that make entry easy, an insulated windshield that softens road noise, and a simple, clean interface anchored by a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 11.6-inch touchscreen. The hybrid system's 194 horsepower feels adequate, and while the CVT's manual mode isn't essential, the all-wheel-drive ride is planted and predictable. We talk through honest mileage—32.3 mpg over nearly 400 miles—and why a 16.6-gallon tank and 1,500-pound tow rating help this small SUV punch above its weight. Then comes the money: where the trim pricing lands, and how it stacks up against CR-V Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, CX-50 Hybrid, and Sportage Hybrid. We switch gears to car culture with a practical guide to starting a collection without celebrity money. Think storage first, define a theme, build a wish list, network with local enthusiasts, and budget for maintenance before you chase the dream. Whether you love 80s Chevys or numbers-matching time capsules, discipline builds a better garage than impulse ever will. Then the EV6 GT-Line takes center stage. Built in Georgia, this is one of the sharpest-looking EVs on the market, with refreshed front and rear design, a sweeping cockpit display, and a smart flat phone charger in a striking console. We talk range reality—expect around 275 miles in daily use—charging frustrations, surprisingly smooth handling for a 4,500-pound crossover, and a 2,700-pound tow rating that adds real utility. Pricing, competitors, and the truth about finding fast, reliable chargers round it out.If you're cross-shopping hybrids and EVs, this ride-along gives you clarity without hype. In a loosey-goosey night before Thanksgiving record, your TSHE hosts are talking about their Thanksgiving plans. Lots of 13 lb turkeys! Lots of pies! Will we survive? TBD! We don't like a regular Thanksgiving, we like a cool Thanksgiving! Also, in a wild turn of events, Hillary is the first host to say, “The thing about math…” Who knew?!In small talk, we're continuing our quest to being a Subaru sponsored podcast (please). Hillary gets some Subaru and life lessons from the dealership. Bobby is a proud owner of a new Forester (twins!). And Ann ventures back to retail life (as a viewer only, not a participant). When Scotland's men last played at a World Cup finals, ICT had just completed their first-ever season in Scotland's third tier. Twenty-seven years later, both sides are on the up again. At the end of a week where Scotland's men grasped the thistle to take their place among football's elite once more, and the Caley Jags recorded their biggest league win of the season, the TWS team reconvened to record the much-delayed November podcast. Join Moff, Sandy, Stevie, AY and first-time panellist James Fraser as they review and celebrate the recent results and, along with three superb exclusive interviews, offer up the usual 31 years of ICT references, wild conjecture and mild distraction. Let's shuffle! 00:00:58 – World Cup-themed welcome. Moff introduces the panel and we look back at Scotland's momentous victory against Denmark from an Inverness perspective. 00:10:06 – Kings in the North vanquish Queen of the South. An in-depth review of Saturday's demolition of the doonhamers. We focus on Adam Mackinnon's influence; tweaks to the formation; Chanka Zimba's emergence as first-choice striker; Scott Kellacher's view of the game; the underwhelming form of Queen of the South; and whether Kell's ICT have now truly clicked as a team. 00:35:15 The KDM Trophy. The tournament that almost everyone dismissed as a waste of energy has proved to be surprisingly entertaining. As ICT enter the knockout stages after six straight league-phase wins, we discuss how far the club might go and the benefits it could have for our players. 00:42:30 – Where are they now? - Keith Bray. No player lit up the post-Ferguson ICT team more than Keith Bray, whose dazzling form won him a January move to Dunfermline Athletic. Keith spoke to Stevie about growing up in Stornoway, coming through the ranks at Caley Thistle, breaking into the first team and why his move to Fife was dependent on coming back to Inverness on loan. 01:10:32 – Funny things that happen over the bridge. As it's looking increasingly likely that ICT will be playing Ross County at least four times next season, we pay a rare visit to our near-neighbours and search in vain for a coherent footballing philosophy. 01:17:34 – What yi sayeen? – Charlie Christie. At the end of a big week for his family, Mr Inverness took the time to talk to Stevie about working with Scott Kellacher to build a winning squad, how Alan Savage's vision for ICT is taking shape, and what Scotland and Ryan qualifying for the World Cup means to him. 01:55:42 Scottish Cup third round special, with Brian Johnston. No, not the AC/DC frontman… Saturday 29th November brings another first for Caley Thistle as the team takes on Lowland League side Tranent in the Scottish Cup. With 400 ICT supporters set to descend upon East Lothian for the occasion, Moff went along to the Belters' game against Caledonian Braves to interview chairman Brian Johnston, scope out the opposition and find out everything you need to know about Forester's Park and the surrounding pubs. 02:25:19 – League (and Cup) Lookahead. A very quick preview of the upcoming games against Alloa, Tranent, East Fife and Dumbarton. There's it!
