CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVORITE PODCATCHER. Returning guest Kent Blue of the Roll to Play Network is our guest for the most adorable and ridiculous episode of the season so far. Adorable, because Big Mac has a crush on a pony from Starlight’s old village, and the awkward sweetness is just lovely. Ridiculous, because there’s a rival for Big Mac’s potential pony love, and HE LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE JUSTIN BIEBER. Not even joking, he’s got ridiculous 2010’s bangs and likes to flip his hair. It’s one of the best one-off ponies we’ve met so far, and it’s all going to culminate in one heck of a musical number. We’re watching ”Hard to Say Anything” this week on Macintosh & Maud! Well we had an interview fly south. That is we mucked it up so needed a replacement - quick. Peter came to the rescue. He just happened to be bringing his grand daughter to a Bittern Birdies playgroup - our introduction to Prep. It's great to see gran parents at the school and they are an important part of our community. Thanks for answering our in depth questions Peter.
Content Warning: We directly confront disrespectful and transphobic tropes used in this episode of My Little Pony (a stallion dresses in drag, which is used mostly for comedic purposes). While many of these moments are mild in nature, some of this content may be upsetting to some listeners. Please take care of yourselves and do not listen to this episode until you feel safe doing so. Thank you. Find us at: iTunes Spotify Patreon Every season or so of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, an episode comes along that has not aged well. This episode in particular sees Big Macintosh wanting to re-connect with Apple Bloom so much that he’s willing to dress in drag to be her partner at the Sisterhooves Social. The gesture is, as Sweetie Belle points out: “Sweet. Weird, but sweet.” Except that the writers missed the mark badly by leaning into the drag tropes and jokes waaaaaay too hard. And yet despite that layer of ickiness, the final scene of the episode sees Big Macintosh open up his sweet stallion heart to his little sister, feeling a little overshadowed by Applejack. As problematic as this episode is, it’s super sweet and meaningful to see this experience open Big Mac up to share his feelings. This week we review a problematic pony fave, “Brotherhooves Social.” Check out our merchandise at our new Teepublic store! We've got lots of fun designs to choose from and more on the way!
