Why did 2 Peter face more resistance than nearly any other New Testament book—and how did it ultimately secure its place in the Christian canon? In this episode, Dr. Stephen Boyce traces the long and contested journey of 2 Peter, one of the most debated epistles in early Christianity. From early doubts about authorship and style, to its uneven reception in the East and West, we examine why this letter stood on the margins for centuries while others were quickly received. We explore:Early patristic hesitation and silence surrounding 2 PeterHow figures like Origen, Eusebius, and Jerome evaluated the letterThe role of apostolic authority, theological content, and ecclesial usageWhich church councils and canonical lists ultimately included 2 Peter—and whyWhat this controversy reveals about how the canon was actually formedFar from being a simple rubber-stamp process, the inclusion of 2 Peter exposes the rigor, caution, and theological criteria employed by the early Church when discerning Scripture. This episode challenges modern assumptions about the canon and asks a deeper question:What does it really mean for a book to be “Scripture,” and who decides?A must-listen for anyone interested in biblical canon, early church history, and the complexities behind the New Testament we hold today. If you'd like to donate to our ministry or be a monthly partner that receives newsletters and one on one discussions with Dr. Stephen Boyce, here's a link: https://give.tithe.ly/?formId=6381a2ee-b82f-42a7-809e-6b733cec05a7

Continuing our discussion on the US tech sector, let's break down how demographics and rising capital costs are stifling innovation. The tech boom relied upon a few things: a young, highly-skilled workforce concentrated in hubs like Silicon Valley and cheap and abundant capital. I don't know if you've noticed, but the US doesn't have the young workers or the capital environment to fund long-term tech development. Combine that with what we discussed yesterday, and you get a tech sector that is going to struggle in the years and decades to come. You're getting access to this podcast at the same time it's released on Patreon. In Peter's second letter, the apostle writes to encourage the church to confirm their calling and election by exercising the divine power given to them for life and godliness. Peter warns them against false teachers who claim Christ but in reality are self-glorifying and treacherous, exploiting the church in their greed with made-up stories. Finally, Peter encourages the church to patiently await Christ's second coming, for the judgment of the wicked is sure. Since this is a short epistle we'll have a double dose of Isaiah, reading chapters 52-53, wherein the suffering servant is pierced because of our rebellion and crushed because of our iniquities, but we are healed by his wounds.2 Peter 1 - 1:13 . 2 Peter 2 - 4:59 . 2 Peter 3 - 9:42 . Reformed Forum is happy to introduce a major new publishing initiative: the Redemptive-Historical Bible Studies series. In this episode of Christ the Center, Camden Bucey is joined by Ryan Noha, Jim Cassidy, and Dan Ragusa to discuss how these resources embody Reformed Forum's vision for accessible, Christ-centered theological education. This series begins with two volumes—Jim Cassidy's The Book of Job: Suffering unto Glory and Dan Ragusa's Exploring 2 Peter: The Promise and the Path—each drawn from Reformed Academy courses. Designed for adult Sunday schools and small groups, these studies help readers encounter Christ in every book of Scripture. Rooted in the conviction that all Scripture testifies to the sufferings and glories of Christ, these studies move beyond mere grammatical-historical observation to unfold the redemptive unity of God's Word. Together, these books and their free companion courses mark the beginning of Reformed Forum's long-term plan: to produce faithful, Christ-centered studies for all sixty-six books of the Bible—so that the church may mature in Christ through the Word. We trace a straight line from 2 Peter to today's confusion about love, truth, and false teaching, and we make a case for a growth track that begins with faith and ends with real love. We read all of 2 Peter and reflect on how an open Bible forms discernment, courage, and hope. Episode 2.52Two short books. One urgent message.Jude and 2 Peter sound like echoes of each other—warning about false teachers, moral corruption, and a church tempted to drift. But behind their similarities lies a sharp, Spirit-led call to courage and purity. In this episode, Zach and Michael unpack how these “forgotten books at the back of the Bible” fit into the bigger New Testament story. They explore their shared language, debated relationship, and the timeless message that faith must be defended, not diluted.Covered in this episode:– How Jude and 2 Peter mirror each other almost word-for-word– Whether Peter borrowed from Jude—or Jude from Peter– What their warnings reveal about early heresies and modern ones– 2 Peter's threefold defense: God's Word, judgment, and return– Why Jude quotes 1 Enoch—and how it doesn't undermine Scripture– The call to “contend for the faith once delivered” in an age of moral confusionTakeaway:Grace doesn't excuse sin, and delay doesn't mean denial. God's patience is mercy—but judgment and redemption are still on the clock.Find our videocast here: https://youtu.be/AONR9zZGLMoMerch here: https://take-2-podcast.printify.me/Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/reakt-music/deep-stoneLicense code: 2QZOZ2YHZ5UTE7C8Find more Take 2 Theology content at http://www.take2theology.com
