When Jesus calls us to follow him, he is clear about what he demands of us and what our path will include. However, it's just as hard for us to hear and receive as it was for the first group of Jesus-followers. Jesus calls us to a truly significant life, but that path leads through pain and self-denial. Although contrary to what we might expect, Jesus calls us to a life that is truly significant through following him.Support the show

Today's episode of Success is Subjective features a conversation between Joanna and Steve Roth. Steve is a licensed clinical social worker, and the Executive Director of The Arise Society – a transition center that supports young adults with digital addictions, mental health challenges, and those who struggle with motivation. While college wasn't optional in Steve's family system, he personally was very eager to begin his post-secondary education upon highschool graduation. With an inclination towards psychology, he set out with a game plan in mind and pursued his undergrad at Plattsburgh State University of New York. Steve's journey to where he is now was anything but cut and dry — taking him on a global pursuit of self discovery and personal development. While he is passionate about his wife, friends, career and those he is able to help, Steve encourages listeners to lean into moments of discomfort - the seasons in life where nothing is as hoped for -  because it's both the good and bad experiences that ultimately lead each individual to where they need to be.Steve's Resources:The Arise SocietyConnect with Joanna Lilley  ALT Fair 2025Therapeutic Consulting AssociationLilley Consulting WebsiteLilley Consulting on Facebook Lilley Consulting on YouTubeEmail joanna@lilleyconsulting.com#TherapeuticConsulting #LilleyConsulting #Successful #YoungAdults #TherapeuticPrograms #Therapy #MentalHealthMatters #Podcast #PodcastCommunity #StudentMentalHealth #TheJourney #SuccessIsSubjectivePodcast #TheUnpavedRoad #PFCAudioVideo #TheAriseSociety

Today, my guest is Norman Hunter, an Educational Leader and Author. In this episode, Norman shares insights into his upbringing, educational background, and experiences as a school teacher and principal. We chat about Norman's book, ‘Between the Idea and the Reality: Decision making for the Thinking Educational Leader,' a book that explores the central role of reasoning behind the many decisions that school leaders make each day. Norman reflects on the importance of understanding human factors in leadership and the significance of recognising individual talents. We discuss the significance of multiple points of view and how to approach this ambiguity when engaging with stakeholders within a school context. We chat about The Beatles song, ‘The Long and Winding Road' as a metaphor for the complexities and uncertainties of life and the quest for purpose that is often ambiguous and not straightforward. Norman emphasises the importance of combining cognitive and intuitive approaches in educational leadership, and the importance of understanding the values and beliefs that underpin a community, particularly in a school setting.

In this episode, Dr. Jane Gilmour and Professor Umar Toseeb unravel the complexities of autism diagnosis, shining a spotlight on the often-overlooked gender differences and the unique mental health challenges faced by autistic youth. With autism identification rates on the rise and growing recognition of co-occurring conditions, the discussion explores why so many autistic children and young people-especially girls-are missed, misdiagnosed, or misunderstood.  Dr. Miriam Martini joins to share her research on how psychiatric diagnoses often precede autism identification, revealing the critical need for earlier recognition and tailored support. Together, they delve into why autistic girls are frequently diagnosed later than boys, how anxiety and the pressure to fit in can mask autistic traits, and how diagnostic overshadowing can leave mental health needs unmet. Tune in for a nuanced look at why understanding the interplay between gender, co-occurring conditions, and mental health is essential-not just for accurate diagnosis, but for ensuring every autistic young person receives the support they deserve.

The fear of absolute helplessness, Is frightening beyond belief, Resigning myself to the will of God, Is all I can do for relief. ☉Join me & Jessica in HAWAII for the Solstice! A few spots left! https://bit.ly/hawaii-2025Happy Equinox with a Saturn, North Node, Neptune, Sun, Venus, and Mercury stellium spanning the cusp of Pisces and Aries! A great big WOW setting the tone for the year ahead with both Mercury and Venus retrograde. As you can see at the end of the video, Mercury and Venus are in what is called an "inferior" conjunction to the Sun (in between the Earth and the Sun as opposed to being on the far side of the Sun). The closer they are, the more of a role they play in the unfolding of consciousness. The interpretation is that this is a time, and this will be a year of rebellious speech, some radical, self-centered ideas, filled with fiery passion. The intention is to individuate and break free from the mass media or conventional norms, values, and thinking for all of us, as individuals, to have the right to speak our truth, hold our own values, and express our unique (maybe crazy?) selves! The nice thing is the trine up to the Moon in fiery Sag to doubly emphasize the desire for freedom! The challenges will come in the arena of feelings and emotions with Mars sesquiquadrate the Moon and square Chiron. Mercury in Aries is definitely straightforward (or blunt), and, backed up with a passionate, emotional, and subjective Mars in Cancer there can be some "Get outa my yard!" kinda rhetoric going on as folks (governments) may get possessive over their territory. This week's report is more personal than social as I discuss the feeling of helplessness (overwhelm) and the remedy of resignation (surrender) to deal with it. We can be at that point this week and this year, where we have done all we can and are now simply dealing with the results of past thoughts and deeds, the will of others, and God (or whatever you call divine intelligence/Creator/Source). It can be a wild ride if our deepest desire and attachment is to the ultimate truth (and not much else LOL!). Neptune in the last degree of Aries combined with La Luna waning after that blood Moon Lunar Eclipse(!!!) points to this week as a time of accepting ourselves, our lives, our relationships, our communities, and our world as it is. Trying to control, manipulate, change, steer, or, in other ways, modify the situation to meet our own perceived needs could prove futile. This is a good week to "go with the flow," or simply exhaust yourself trying to fight it to no avail.Take the Long and Winding Road!  https://youtu.be/yDP3dwpoVTo?si=P2fRKk8BqQHmjOopSo Much Love,Kaypacha☉

Give me a percentage!   Why did Henry only have 16 carries?  Coaching?   Did Josh Allen cement MVP or should Barkley be in the conversation?   What's up with the Eagles pass game and can they win without it?   Would it be farfetched to say Jayden Daniels is the best QB still alive in these playoffs?   What do you think was the catalyst for the Commanders making such a huge turnaround so fast?   Lots of bad calls from the ladies and gentlemen that wear stripes this weekend, something has to give here.   Can the Irish upset the Buckeyes and what will they need to do so?   WIth a win does Marcus Freeman move on to the big leagues?  If he does not jump to the NFL, does he jump to the top of 3 or 4 coaches in college football?   With football winding down, what do you turn to for sports?   Can Ben Johnson turn things around in Chicago, make a playoff run & help Caleb Williams become the star everyone predicted he would be?   Rashene Hill rage against the Rashene- Instagram  Rashene Hill-facebook  @rashenehill-tik tok rj the hill-x Michael “Chops” Mills @therealbigchops  Terry “T-sizzle” Young : Instagram and Twitter @1tyoungy Kevin Watson:@coachkwatt10 on threads Facebook: Kevin Watson Mike Neubeiser: X and Instagram @CoachNeub  ===========================  CONNECT WITH US  ===========================  Check out our websites, social media and networks we are featured on:  https://www.podpage.com/originalsportspodcastwithmarkmaradei/    Find us on Facebook, X, And SnapChat @ OSPwithMM   https://www.facebook.com/OSPwithMM  https://twitter.com/OSPwithMM      OSP   Follow our Instagram, TikTok, Twitch and YouTube @  OriginalSportsPodcast https://www.instagram.com/originalsportspodcast   OriginalSportsPodcast  https://www.twitch.tv/ospwithmarkmaradei  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVZuudj681oIAbnscyHBa0g?view_as=subscriber    You can also use our LinkTree to access all our locations at : https://linktr.ee/Originalsportspodcast    Find us on: Let's Talk Sports Network, https://sidelinesportsnet.com/  and Elite Sports and Entertainment Network. https://linktr.ee/ESENetwork , https://manningmediainc.com/ , https://www.peakonesportsnetwork.com/    Catch OSP on ROKU weekly on National Stream Sports www.NEESP.info  Tuesday Nights from 7-8 pm  ===========================  Feel free to let us know if you have any comments or questions By emailing us at: OriginalSportsPodcast@gmail.com Voice intro: Steve Medley Music by Charlie Hodgson Join us every week to Experience the “O” on the Original Sports Podcast!!! @FunFootballPod @FootballKnow32 @SmokinJeremy @dailygrindpod @jennacheryl @QueenofHoop @rachmariesports @SteveB7SFG @scottGOLIONS @JuanPerezJr7 @ChiefsNana @DaSportChatter @TravisDHolmes @MikeBrodskyFL @TheSoTG @CD3Gator @cduvall30 @TribuneCity @john_nufc42 @always_chiefs @joshuaburs @rodpedersen @BillfromBoynton @phins93 @mikecalheta @NelliNel13 @Sportsteamnews @ChiefsChic87 @RButler723 @ShkBkMediaGrp @TomKorun @pblake1003 @Montejp231 @TheOffSeasonCFB @Blitz_Burgh @TheStandard412 @NflKramer @NYsportsGoat @madchadandeddie @BSenopole @profootballman1 @ClaudioReilsano @Topoffsports @SportsPodiumPodcast @TheMicDr @MarLovelace1 @100Sanford @coachmaradei @Letstalksports @TribuneSouth @BBALLBABE6 @NFLDraftEd @Key103Radio @1069THEEAGLE  @ShkBkMediaGrp @MunnseyTalks @JB_ThePROgram @ecwilson76 @LandersTalks @Mancinisports @GridironXtra @GridironGrubb @GridironZeroes @GridironGuru2 @OSPwithMM @thrillofsports @SmokeyHellNFL @jennachery @ShkBkMediaGrp @SteveB7SFG @CFBWeekly @ecwilson76 @LandersTalks @RadioJakeTaylor @tssjester @1tyoungy  @coachneub @MediaManning @ListenFrederick @ListenHubCity  @therealbigchops @PeakOneSports @bradwalker3083 @TBBucs5 @ShkBkMediaGrp @JB_ThePROgram @BrutallyHones @Montejp231 @GridironGuru2 @OSPwithMM @TheyCallMeMrYu @southfloridatribune @rodpedersen @CatsNBoltsPod @RodPedersenShow @JoshuaDoor954 @bradwalker3083  @High_Low_Sports  @SmokinJeremy @DaSportChatter @BillfromBoynton @phins93 @WindyCityDig @bradwalker3083 @JB_ThePROgram @FunFootballPod @rachmariesports @scottGOLIONS @MichiganMan_2 @DaSportChatter @LegitFBPods @TribuneCity @TheTouchdownNFL @always_chiefs   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVZuudj681oIAbnscyHBa0g https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/original-sports-podcast-with-mark-maradei/id1504014103 https://open.spotify.com/show/3bMNxHBGw0V61LtpSuKh2u https://www.audible.com/pd/Steel-City-Nation-Podcast-Podcast/B08JJMND3F https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS85NDM0MjMucnNz https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-steel-city-nation-podcast-60538738/ https://www.twitch.tv/ospwithmarkmaradei/videos  https://linktr.ee/Originalsportspodcast  https://linktr.ee/ESENetwork https://linktr.ee/truthbetoldsports?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=27aeb327-ebe2-4330-98a6-b7ee0188d490

In this episode, with sit with Erin Wathen who shares her deeply personal and reflective journey of faith, ministry, and community leadership. She recounts how her path toward ministry wasn't clear-cut but rather a mix of gradual realizations and moments of connection. Initially drawn to nonprofit work after college, Erin found herself surrounded by a seminary community that felt like a natural fit for her passions—writing, teaching, public speaking, and counseling. As she embraced ministry, Erin discovered that it allowed her to explore all the roles she had envisioned for herself while also making a meaningful impact in various communities. Erin also reflects on the progressive values she grew up with in the Disciples of Christ church and how they shaped her views on inclusivity and leadership. She emphasizes the importance of creating a church environment that fosters genuine community and spiritual growth without shame or judgment. Erin's experiences as a female pastor in predominantly male spaces and her passion for making church accessible and relevant to a wide range of people, especially in today's increasingly remote and connected world, offer valuable insights for listeners navigating their own faith and community-building journeys. Takeaways: Many individuals' professional and spiritual journeys can be unpredictable, shaped by diverse experiences and unexpected turns. It's often in hindsight that these experiences come together, leading to meaningful roles and purposes. There is a growing movement toward inclusivity within faith communities, particularly in promoting women and other marginalized groups into leadership roles, challenging traditional patriarchal norms.Cultural shifts, technology, and increased societal secularism have led to declining church involvement, particularly among younger generations. Many feel the church no longer aligns with their modern lives or values. Many people, particularly those from marginalized communities, experience religious trauma, often stemming from exclusionary or shame-based teachings. Creating safe, inclusive spaces is key to fostering healing and spiritual growth.sense of belonging is essential to the spiritual journey. Faith communities can provide meaningful relationships and support, offering both personal and collective growth.Churches have increasingly embraced technology, offering remote worship services to reach individuals who cannot attend in person. This helps build wider communities but also underscores the importance of in-person fellowship.Modern faith communities are often caught between maintaining traditional forms of worship and evolving to reflect contemporary social and cultural changes, such as gender equality and the use of technology.

This is one of the happiest summers of my very long life. My wife installed WhatsApp on my phone and it dings and I pick up and she talks to me from the wine country of Portugal where she's hiking with her brother and his wife, on their way to a baptism and pig roast. Sometimes my daughter comes on and says, “Make me laugh,” so I tell her about the woman at Yellowstone Park who was chased by a bear and the park rangers arrested her for running with a bear behind. She laughs.I'm an old man, I have no ambition whatsoever but I love my work. I do 90 minutes of stand-up, I go back to the hotel and work on my novel, and in the morning I repeat it. The audience laughs a lot and then I have hours of pure silence occasionally interrupted by the voice of the woman I love lying in her hotel room in a heat wave in Portugal and recounting her days' adventures. Or my little girl needing a joke. So a woman was hit by a car and lay in the street bleeding and someone yelled, “Call a priest!” The woman said, “No, I'm Unitarian.” Someone yelled, “Then call a math teacher.” This is a public episode. “Coming back to classical chess was the best decision of my life.” IM-elect Selim Citak came out of semi-retirement on a whim a few years ago needing one more norm and some more FIDE rating points in order to earn the IM title. Selim quickly discovered that adjustments were necessary, as his rating plummeted from over 2300 to 2150 while he grappled with the stronger new generation of chess players. Through hard work, sacrifice, and psychological adjustments, Selim turned things around and gained the 250 FIDE points and final norm necessary to earn the IM title at age 39! In our conversation, Selim shares his remarkable story, along with plenty of chess improvement advice. Selim is very active in the Turkish chess scene as an author, Chessable author and commentator, and joined me just after attending the Olympiad as a second to young star GM Yagiz Erdogmus.
