From the first screenshot I saw of Roadwarden (Moral Anxiety Studio), I knew that I needed to check the game out. The art is simple, yet striking, and any screenshot will convey the quality of writing. Once I booted up the game, I found that the choose-your-adventure writing, the confident RPG mechanics and the music wrapped this into a rich total package. This week we buff our stats, equip all our rare end-game armor and spend hours managing our packs as we prepare for an epic quest in the realm of Best RPG Video Games. RPGs (Role Playing Games) exist in all sorts of forms and hybrids, the most popular of the formats probably being the tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons, but this week we'll be focusing only on video game formats. Basically RPGs put you inside the character and give you control over how you approach the narrative and focuses a lot more on decision-making and character development than traditional games in other genres. It's a fully immersive experience and they're easy to sink several...several...hours into. If you've never played one or if you're just trying to see if your favorite made our list, come party up with your boys as we prepare for battle!
In this episode we discuss which video games capture the best roleplaying experience. We each talk about what we like and didn't like and then we discuss bowling with babies.
We couldn't figure out the difference between action and rpg video games so we kinda rolled them into one category! Hope you enjoy!!
Best RPG Video Games for Newbies and Beginners In this episode: We got asked on Twitter where the best place to begin with RPGs would be. Between Western RPGs like Skyrim and the jRPG genre like Final Fantasy, we thought this would make a great topic for a cast. Starting RPGs can be intimidating because they're typically dozens of hours long, with lots of mechanics and intricate battle and progression systems. We wanted to break it down so that you knew there are easily accessible options out there if you want to give the genre a try. Like Final Fantasy X and Dragon Quest XIII. We even talk about how Pokemon (specifically Let's Go! Eevee is a great starting point for everyone). We don't really cover action RPGs in this (Kingdom Hearts, Zelda, etc.) because we feel as though they deserve an episode all on their own. However, Kingdom Hearts is a great place to start, as is Breath of the Wild. If you've never tried an RPG before and want to just get into the genre without worrying about a lot of baggage, give Skyrim a shot. It's on almost every platform, is totally affordable, and really brought (Western) RPGs to the masses. You will probably drop hundreds of hours in like most of us do. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask on Twitter, Discord, or Slack. Geek Offer of the Week patreon.com/geektogeekcast Real Nice Thank You: LYLE! You're awesome! Keep on being that way! We
Nick and Adam are joined by comrade Troy Cleland from Extra Life to talk about Roleplaying Video Games
When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews. Where you're from greatly influences who you are - especially so when it comes to creative output. So it should be no surprise that for indie game studios out of Eastern Europe, the stories they tell and the games they make are distinctly different from the usual faire: games like Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Gothic, and others. Cap, Trench, Arkais, Luke, and Tony explore their favorite titles in the often overlooked, sometimes obscure, and always fascinating world of European RPG video games. We look for what makes these games decidedly different (outside of a lack of major corporate funding), discuss the books that inspired them, share our personal highs and lows, and, of course, spend plenty of time talking about the best known title of them all, The Witcher. James Nokise should have been a jock, he had the physique and the skills. But Underneath all the charisma and the charm secretly James Nokise is a nerd. James love for fantasy worlds and video games has cost him relationships but has gained him much much more.
