A bit of a different topic this week as Ryan and Crofton share stories about times that they felt misunderstood for being a parent and advice on how to support your parent friends as they embark on a sometimes scary, always tiring, new journey. But before that Crofton has more to say on Hades II, while Ryan watches The Meg with Kayden and Peacemaker Season 2 by himself. All of this and one of the boys gets a new pet! I've heard it described as playing a Stephen King novel, and I couldn't agree more. The game goes as far as to have you play AS a writer (Alan Wake), and while you don't write anything yourself, you stumble through a horror movie set in a novel, finding pages of a manuscript that keep the plot moving as you fight enemies with guns or flashlights. Or should I say guns AND flashlights. Combat isn't its strong suit, but Alan Wake tells a HELL of a story. The Al to my Barry, ye olde Bradley McCue, joins me on the show this week. He was as stoked to jump into this game as I was, and now that we're both done our first playthrough, we have a lot to say about this one. The entire game is 100% story focused, so if you've read this far (does anyone read these?), know that spoilers are incoming. And before we wake Alan, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk the indie game Ball X Pit, the best games to play while high, and will we ever see Sega Saturn or Dreamcast games on Nintendo Switch Online?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'!! Plus, they discuss shocking upsets from Houston over San Francisco and Miami's demolition of Atlanta, Bijan Robinson's disappointing outing, and reveal the Cut the Brakes Pick 'Em Challenge results. A spooky episode number for a spooky season, but are we playing spooky games? Turns out not so much, unless you count PEAK with the AvenDaDs for Extra Life. We also get an update on PEAK as Ryan and the AvenDaDs returned to the game for their Extra Life event. I couldn't put it down and now I get why so many say it set the bar for remakes all those years ago.The OG Resident Evil is one of the most important (and fun) games ever made IMO, and Remake improves on practically every aspect of it. INCREDIBLE graphics, better controls, slightly less cheesy voice acting, and more. It takes all the ingredients in a great bowl of soup and someone makes them even greater. I don't know if I'd call this the place for newcomers to the series to start because of the tank controls, but I think it's an absolutely must-play for horror fans and one of the best in the series.RTG's resident evil, my buddy Patrick, is my guest this week. We have different opinions on some entries in the Resident Evil series, but we both agree this remake is top shelf. One of us doesn't care for the mansion setting though, and the other thinks that's crazy. And before we kill zombies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what Nintendo needs to do to stop being a villain? After their horrible year, do I still like Xbox more than PlayStation? Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameIt took over 7 years to cover a Fire Emblem game on the show, which is unacceptable. But for those of you that have been waiting patiently for a FE episode, I think the wait was worth it, because I love this series and I'm ready to start handing out some flowers. The Blazing Blade was the first Fire Emblem game to find its way across the pond and onto the GBA, and while it may be a *little* archaic compared to modern titles like Three Houses, it's still as good as tactical RPGs get. You control an army of soldiers through various chapters like playing a digital board game, and with the permadeath options waiting for you to make a mistake and a decent story to drive the game forward, I'd argue this is the best bang for your GBA buck outside of Pokemon.Resident RPG nerd Keegs makes his return to the show this week and we spent over an hour working though Fire Emblem. We talked story while avoiding major plot points so you can play the game untarnished if you want to, take a dive into our favourite (and least favourite) party members, and basically just sing the praises of the Fire Emblem series as a whole. And before we blaze blades, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about what kind of console I'd design if I had infinite money. I get into some details on my upcoming Extra-Life charity stream. And where do I stand on using walkthroughs while playing games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Fire Emblem games: Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, and Awakening.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I recently played the Pixel Remaster version for the first time, so I wanted to give Cecil and friends another round of RTG.I don't disagree with anyone that says Final Fantasy VI is the superior game, but IV isn't without its charm. I love the characters, betrayals, and combat system, and personally I like the linear party management of this one better to future entries where you can mix and match as you please. It's really wild to see how far JRPGs have come since Golbez's started robbing jewelry stores, and I think FF IV deserves its flowers for helping the series evolve from its basic NES counterparts.Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we both geeked out pretty hard over this game. A couple dungeons (Dark Elf) and characters (Spoony Bard) got under our skin, but at the end of the day I think we agree that this is a must-play for fans of the genre, and a great place for someone new to Final Fantasy to get their feet wet. And before we argue with Tellah, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what the next big trend in gaming is going to be? I've had many people tell me that the sequel is a completely different game from the first, but that didn't stop me from wanting to give it a shot. Unfortunately, the new gameplay didn't really connect with me. I loved the first game's roguelike mechanic, but this one went more in the direction of side scroller, and while it's gorgeous to look at and the dialogue is charming as hell, it's just not that fun to play.My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week, and while he grew up playing this one, he's not sure if he liked it because it was a good game, or because it was the game he rented for the weekend as a kid. We don't go full 'Ecco the Dolphin' or anything this week, but the illusive Perfect Score isn't making an appearance either. And before we panic funkingly, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if the price of a game should play a role in GOTY voting? And yep, I get it now. MLF is awesome. The football itself is fine. Personally I prefer Tecmo Bowl for my retro football fix, but this is adequate. Where Mutant League Football shines is, well, the mutants. Decapitating opponents, bribing (or murdering) refs, and pushing your opponents into outer space are just some the things that set this game apart from other classic football titles. Add in a great playoff mode, the ability to win games by killing too many of the other team's players, and some pretty solid gross out humour, and you have a game that's playable in 2025 as it was in 1993.My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We had a great time taking some shots at NFL fans while laughing it up over all the insanity that is Mutant League Football. I get why all you Sega kids are so proud of these games now, and I can PROMISE you Mutant League Hockey is getting some airtime at RTG Industries sooner than later. And before we slaughter some ref, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we compare the PS3/Xbox 360 wars to the SNES/Genesis battles of the 90's. And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid.
