As we head into Labor Day weekend, I'm flexing one of my superpowers: organizing information.   In this episode of The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast, I share the story behind my book binder — a simple but powerful system that helps me keep track of dozens of book recommendations and the 20–30 books I read each year. You'll hear how I went from barely finding time to read as a busy mom to becoming an audiobook enthusiast with a binder full of possibilities.   I'll also share 26 books currently on my “to be read” list (plus the Spy School series I'm enjoying with my son Kraig). Maybe you'll discover your next great read from this podcast episode!   Even if books aren't your thing, you'll walk away with this takeaway: what makes you weird might actually be your superpower. For me, it's organizing information. For you, it could be something else entirely — and when you embrace it, life gets easier, less stressful, and more fun. You just might help other people too!

With 2018's Vampyr, Don't Nod took a swing a narrative, decisions-matter action RPG, and while I liked Vampyr a lot, the decisions-matter part of it left a lot to be desired. Five years later, they took another swing at that type of game with Banishers, and really righted that specific area. Decisions matter in Banishers in a way they don't matter in most games, and it led to one of the most effective stories I've played in a while. Coming back from Podcast Movement, I've got a story that really drives home the point that nothing beats face-to-face networking. I mean, sure, we can all hop on Zoom and pretend we're connecting, but when you're actually sharing a meal with someone or just hanging out, that's where the magic happens. It's like the difference between texting your buddy and grabbing a beer – one is okay, but the other is where real connections are made. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to make meaningful connections while stuffing their face with overpriced convention center food?Takeaways: Networking in person is way better than any online stuff, seriously, just trust me. Most podcasters are totally wasting their listeners' time with a simple fix in editing. Chapters are a cool tool to help listeners skip to what they actually want to hear. If you want your podcast to grow, you might need to jump into the Podcast Hot Seat. Cutting out unnecessary parts of interviews can save time and keep listeners happy, who knew? It all seemed too plain, too simple, too lacking in complexity, and while a part of me was relieved to suddenly have less "homework" to do as I'm forever catching up on RPGs that I missed, part of me felt an ever-present need to "get it". On this episode, Dave Jackson, Founder of School of Podcasting, joins Dots Oyebolu to unpack the concept of podcast maturity and why many shows fail to gain traction. With nearly two decades of experience, Dave shares practical advice for marketers looking to launch or improve their branded podcasts. From understanding your “why” to maximizing content distribution and measuring engagement, this conversation offers tactical insights for using podcasts as a tool for B2B marketing growth.Key Takeaways:(04:54) Podcasting builds connections, making you someone's temporary friend. (07:25) Without a clear purpose, most podcasts fail after eight episodes.(08:08) Invest more time understanding your audience than you invest in your gear.(12:57) Use your website as a follow hub, not just “find us wherever you get podcasts.”(13:51) Reviews don't help the algorithm — they serve as social proof for advertisers.(19:28) Focus on being the most talked-about show, not just the most downloaded.(21:38) Listening to your market's language helps guide relevant episode content.(27:01) Ask your audience to share your content with clarity and confidence.Resources Mentioned:School of Podcasting websitehttps://schoolofpodcasting.com/Insightful Links:https://www.casted.us/blog/the-next-generation-of-b2b-content-marketing-the-b2b-podcast-maturity-curvehttps://jake-jorgovan.com/blog/how-to-start-and-produce-a-podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/blog/podcast-marketinghttps://www.clariantcreative.com/launch-a-podcast-best-practiceshttps://riverside.fm/blog/podcast-marketingThanks for listening to the “Marketing Leadership” podcast, brought to you by Listen Network. Nail your first in-person podcast interview: best practices for guests Part 2 of 2

Pharmacist's Voice

This is a follow up to episode 325, which was about pod-guesting best practices for first-timers for remote podcast interviews. Today's episode is about pod-guesting best practices for in-person podcast interviews.   The FULL show notes are on https://www.thepharmacistsvoice.com/podcast.   If the interview is in-person, you'll probably sit across the table from someone. There are several ways to record a conversation in-person, like at the host's recording space, at your home, or at a neutral location.   No matter where you record, your goals are to sound good, have a conversation, and tell the audience what they need to hear (deliver value). These are the same three goals from my episode about remote pod-guesting best practices. The “how” is just a little different in-person. If you've been invited to be an in-person podcast guest, this episode might help you understand what to expect so you have have a good experience.    In the final few minutes of this episode, I talk about being a generous guest. For example, provide requested information on-time, help promote the episode, engage with social media posts, and say, “Thank You.”   If you know someone who needs these best practices, please share this episode with them. I found myself in that same position, with great respect for their process, but no experience with the games themselves....until now! El Paso, Elsewhere is an emotional take on neo-noir, vampire stories, Max Payne and boomer shooters, and it works really well! Support my work on Patreon (https://patreon.com/realdavejackson) I was admittedly very late to the King's Field and Shadow Tower bandwagons, energized by my love for FromSoftware's modern titles and a desire to dig into their history some more. However, I didn't anticipate loving those games so much that I wanted more like them, and that's where Kira LLC's Lunacid (2023) entered the fray. Lunacid is a fantastic game, leaning more on the exploration and vibes of those FromSoftware dungeon crawlers than the opaque RPG mechanics, capturing the spirit in a modern way. A true indie success- listen in to find out why.
