Mind Gap

Justin's got the week off, so Seth steps in as co-host and the conversation does not disappoint. Doug and Seth dig into a Reddit question that sent them both deep into the nostalgia rabbit hole: of all the computer games you played between 1985 and 2010, what's the one you still think about today? Seth goes back to the PC port of Final Fantasy VII — the game that defined the RPG genre for a generation of players who couldn't afford a PlayStation — and StarCraft, the game that proved the internet was both a gift and a curse once Korean players started annihilating everyone on Battle.net. Doug lands on Diablo, Counter Strike, Half-Life, and Team Fortress from what he describes as the best summer of his life, plus Warcraft II and the legendary dorm-vs-dorm Counter Strike leaderboard that consumed an entire semester. Seth adds Morrowind and the Halo 2 university network wars, including the top-ranked player named Mixomatosis who turned out to live three doors down and was simply a different kind of person. The gaming conversation rolls naturally into a deep dive on Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, and hero shooter culture — the difference between quick match and competitive, the rage of random teammates, why role-locking exists, and why you absolutely should not be trying out a new character in ranked. But first: Doug's mom has a long history of purging spices from the family pantry, and it explains a lot about his childhood. From there Doug and Seth debate overrated recipes (the dump-and-bake casserole situation has gotten out of hand), wage war over cottage cheese, and discover halloumi together in real time. Underrated picks include millionaire shortbread and candied pecans — two things that deserve far more attention. Plus fair food: dirty, suspect, and somehow perfect. A quick Clair Obscure Expedition 33 check-in leads into the episode's new game: AI or LinkedIn? Doug reads posts and Seth has to guess whether each one is a genuine LinkedIn post or AI generated. The results are both funnier and sadder than expected — especially the guy who timed his lunch at four minutes and 37 seconds because what isn't measured doesn't improve. This week's recommendations: Seth — Taskmaster (free on YouTube, 21 seasons). Five comedians, bizarre tasks, Greg Davies and Alex Horne hosting. One of the best shows you haven't watched yet. Doug — The Backrooms (A24). Directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons based on the viral liminal space internet lore. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars. One of A24's highest-grossing films. Go see it. Plus: what even is SCP? Seth explains, and the answer sends Doug down a rabbit hole he didn't budget time for.   Subscribe: youtube.com/mindgappodcast  Join the Discord: https://discord.gg/T3HwyEw5v7  Listen everywhere you get podcasts  Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mindgappodcast Merch on Redbubble: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/67768184

HKR - Street Fighter 2 : The World Warrior (MS-DOS) Un traumatisme d'enfance. Jeux évoqués : Unreal Tournament 99 (PS2, Dreamcast), Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox 360), MediEvil Resurrection (PSP), Medal of Honor Underground (GBA), WWE 2K18 (Switch), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (GBA), Metal Gear Solid (PC), Final Fantasy VII & VIII (PC), Ratatouille (PSP), Gran Turismo (PSP), Dead Space Extraction (Wii), Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop (Wii), Soul Calibur 2 (PS2), Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox 360), Prince of Persia Les Sables Oubliés (Wii), Dragon Quest XI (3DS), Hogwarts Legacy (Switch), King Kong (DS) Intervenants : Mugen, Ace Bunny, Brad, Pedro, HKRMontage et mixage : Ace_BunnyTechnique, diffusion et hébergement : Mugen_Pascal

On this episode of PS This is Awesome!, the crew dives into a packed week of PlayStation news and rumors.First up, The Blood of Dawnwalker finally has a release date, landing on September 3rd, 2026. A recent showcase gave us a deeper look at its story, gameplay systems, and RPG mechanics—and it's shaping up to be one of the most promising RPGs on PS5.Next, there's some big movement in the Final Fantasy VII remake saga. Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that the third and final installment is gearing up for its official reveal, and he's already played through it over 40 times during development. With Remake and Rebirth heading to Xbox and Nintendo platforms, expectations are shifting toward the trilogy finale launching as a multi-platform title. A Summer Game Fest reveal could be right around the corner.Over at Remedy, the team behind Control Resonant is taking a bold creative stance. Art director Elmeri Raitanen says the studio intentionally avoided referencing other AAA games to keep their aesthetic fresh, warning that the industry risks falling into an “aesthetic singularity” if developers stop taking visual risks.Meanwhile, The Outer Worlds is getting a shake-up. The original version is being delisted on PS4 and PS5, but current owners will receive the Spacer's Choice Edition for free. That said, given the remaster's rough launch, there's some cautious optimism that it'll be in better shape this time around. In the VR space, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has officially landed on PSVR2 via a new update. Early impressions are strong, though minor performance issues may keep it from overtaking Gran Turismo 7 as the platform's standout experience. And finally, the rumor mill is heating up: signs are pointing toward NetherRealm working on Injustice 3, thanks to a developer resume listing the project. It's not official yet—but it's the strongest hint we've seen in a while. All that and more on this episode of PS This is Awesome!Visit www.patreon.com/psthisisawesome to support the show and help us continue producing the content you love! Please, if you enjoyed the content — or even if you didn't quite enjoy this one — come back. 247 Another unscripted Sunday catch-up, and this time Roberto is behind the wheel of his new Mini Electric - loving every second of it - while Jon is still waiting for his Nissan to be returned after nine months in a dealership. Life is unfair. We cover a lot of ground this week, from a film you absolutely need to see to a battery technology that could change EVs forever.Today's conversation covers:•Jon's Nissan saga update - nine months since the car was towed for repairs and still no resolution; a surprise service appointment, a head mechanic who said things he definitely shouldn't have, and how filing a Financial Ombudsman case suddenly made Nissan very interested in picking up the phone•Mini Electric vs BMW M2 - Roberto drove the M2 to Sussex mid-week for speed and efficiency, but the car he keeps finding excuses to drive is the Mini; real-world range (150–170 miles), motorway behaviour, remote parking via phone, and why driving silently past school parents in idling Range Rovers is deeply satisfying•Project Hail Mary - both Roberto and Jon are evangelical about the Ryan Gosling sci-fi film; practical effects, an emotionally hopeful story, and why it might deserve a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination; Roberto's slightly dodgy viewing arrangement and why he booked Odeon tickets anyway to clear his conscience•Solid-state battery breakthrough - Finnish startup Donut Lab claims the holy grail: a battery with 400Wh/kg energy density (roughly double current lithium-ion), a potential 5–8 minute full charge, unlimited lifespan, and performance unaffected by heat or cold; if it works, this is the tipping point that makes petrol cars obsolete•Cheshire road trip in the Mini - Roberto is planning to drive the Mini Electric up to Rookery Hall and the Bentley factory visit on 18th May and film the whole thing as a road trip vlog; expect at least two charging stops and a revisit of the earlier road trip format•Books & tech - Jon has finished the Walter Isaacson Steve Jobs biography (spoiler: sad ending) and moved on to Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shards of Earth; the Lego Game Boy gets a playable upgrade via the BrickBoy Kickstarter mod; Jon is deep into Final Fantasy VII Integrade on the Nintendo Switch 2•James Bond - First Light & casting rumours - the IO Interactive Bond game (007: First Light) is roughly six weeks away and Roberto cannot wait, given IO's pedigree on the Hitman series; Louis Partridge (22) is being linked to the role of a younger, prequel-era Bond, and the lads debate whether the whole franchise is heading in a prequel direction while waiting for Denis Villeneuve to wrap Dune•Cinema vs streaming - films are leaving cinemas faster than ever, screens can't fit as many runs of longer films, and both agree Project Hail Mary deserves to be seen again on IMAX - which may well return later in the year
