In Acts 3, Peter heals a man lame from birth at the temple gate. Peter and John were going to the temple for the hour of prayer when they encountered the man. The man asked them for alms, but Peter offered him something far greater: healing in the name of Jesus Christ. He commanded the man to rise and walk, and instantly, the man's feet and ankles were strengthened. The man leaped up, walked, and praised God, amazing onlookers who knew him as a lifelong beggar. This miracle, performed under the authority of Jesus, highlights the power of the gospel and God's desire to offer new life and spiritual healing.

"One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him." Acts 3:1-10, NIV

Peter, through the power of the Spirit and by the authority given to him by Jesus, was a channel of blessing to this broken man. It wasn't his power, but the power of Jesus. Like the blind man Jesus healed in Matthew 21, this man was healed so that the works of God might be displayed in him, pointing to the Messianic authority of Jesus. In Christ, God gives people so much more than they expect or deserve. Notice the progression of joy in [v.8] – the man stood firm, began to walk, then moved into an all-out sprint into the presence of God, leaping and praising Him all the way.

It has never been more important for God’s children to realize the church is more than a building. In a time where people want to get back into a routine where businesses are open, schools are instructing and beaches are packed, make sure your desire to see God use you in your routine is first and foremost on your list.
