The gospel affects how you do your work, how you do your job, and how you pursue your vocation. But how? If we're going to understand what Paul says in this passage, we need to look at 1) some background work and historical context, 2) practical principle number one, 3) practical principle number two, and 4) the power to carry them out. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 17, 2010. Series: The Gospel and the World. Ephesians 5:21, 6:5-9. How does the gospel affect your work? We're in a series where we're asking, “What happens when you take the gospel, the basic message of Jesus Christ, out of the church and into the world?” One of the things that happens is it affects the way in which you do your work. And there's no way to see the Christian understanding of work without going to Genesis 1, 2, and 3. I'd like to show you three things Genesis tells us about your work: 1) it gives you a vision for work, 2) it gives you guardrails for your work, and 3) it gives you a power to do your work. In this message in our Good News series, Phil Mason explores our reception of the gospel message. The gospel is not a subject to be mastered by the mind. It is a feast of God's love for the heart. But the Western world has sold us a lie that the mind is the primary organ of perception. That's how most people think in Western education. The truth is, according to the Scriptures, that our heart is the primary organ of perception and that we are to see with the eyes of our heart and have our minds subsequently informed by the revelation light that streams into a soft, open heart. Jesus said, “The eyes of your spirit allow revelation-light to enter into your being. If your heart is unclouded, the light floods in!” (Luke 6:22 TPT) Our goal in receiving the good news is to pursue an ‘unclouded heart' so God can fill us with His love and His light. Jesus said the pure in heart shall see God. (Matthew 5:8) We hope you enjoy this message!

How does the gospel give us hope? And how does that hope shape our public life? We're looking at how hope shapes the way in which we live our lives—not just in giving us inner peace and not just in our family life, but in our public life out in the world. In particular, how does hope shape the way in which we do our work? We're going to see 1) the passion of hope, 2) the case study of hope, and then 3) the reason for hope. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 25, 2009. Series: The Gospel, Hope, and the World. Scripture: Titus 2:11-3:9.
