Alan Smith: Finding The Resurrected Jesus - Ep. 921 - June 9, 2026

Alan Smith asks a question that sits at the heart of Easter faith: have you found the risen Jesus, or do you only know the Easter story? In this episode of The Smith and Rowland Show, Alan Smith looks at the resurrection of Jesus Christ through Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and 1 Corinthians 15. He shows why the empty tomb matters, why the witnesses matter, and why the risen Christ is still speaking today. This is a clear, Scripture-focused message about the life and power of the resurrection, not just the holiday. Alan walks through the first resurrection morning, the women at the tomb, the angel's message, the guards' cover-up, Mary Magdalene's grief, the road to Emmaus, Thomas in the locked room, and Paul's account of the many witnesses who saw Jesus alive. Along the way, he points to a simple but serious truth, familiarity with Scripture is not the same as receiving what God is saying right now. He also connects resurrection faith with daily life. Words matter. Forgiveness matters. A heart that keeps reaching for old wounds can miss the voice of Christ. If Jesus is alive, then His presence, His word, and His call to believe still matter today. This message is a strong reminder that the resurrection is the center of the Christian faith. Christ died for our sins, He was buried, He rose again the third day, and He was seen. That is the gospel Paul preached, and it still stands. Watch this episode if you want a grounded, Bible-based look at the resurrection and a fresh call to hear Jesus by name. #TheSmithAndRowlandShow #AlanSmith #ResurrectionSunday #EasterMessage #JesusIsAlive

Jesus has already destroyed death, defeated sin, and disarmed the enemy — the tomb is empty and the victory is won. Now the question is: will you choose to walk in it? This message will challenge you to let Jesus resurrect the things in your life that have been buried too long.

In this week's episode, we do a reaction video on the resurrection of Christ. Some claim that Jesus was either not a real person, was never killed, or that because we don't all agree where His tomb is, Jesus never resurrected. These are baseless claims, and so we tackle a few different arguments and go through how we know through evidence that Jesus Christ is ALIVE and Resurrected.

Jesus arrives at Lazarus' tomb after intentionally delaying two days, allowing Lazarus to die so that God's glory could be revealed in a way no one could deny. Surrounded by grieving family, hired mourners, and skeptical onlookers, Jesus commands the stone to be removed, prays aloud for the crowd's sake, and calls Lazarus out of the tomb—raising him after four days in death. The miracle leads many Jews to believe in Him, while others report it to the Pharisees, triggering the Sanhedrin's plot to kill Jesus and setting the stage for the final events leading to the cross.

In the city of Corinth the Christians had created issues of status in their church - Paul is writing to correct them. In Roman culture, the metaphor of the body was used to reinforce tiers of status in Roman society. But Paul uses this metaphor to remind Christians of their interdependence - in our diversity we are all part of one body. Being parts, we are all needed, whatever our gifts - no unneeded spare parts. But we are not all the same part - our diversity is an invitation to interdependence, valuing one another. And we all have a part to play, whether in the grace of giving, leading worship, visiting, or any of the many roles in the church.

Questions - Week 26: Will Our Bodies Be Resurrected?

Awake Us Now

Play Episode Listen Later May 10, 2026 25:02

This is a question Pastor has received over and again throughout the years, "Will our bodies be resurrected?" The answer is "yes!" Even through there is biblical teaching and a recognition of the resurrection by believers throughout the centuries, there are still many questions from believers and non-believers when it comes to the future resurrection.    Resurrection: Doubt and Denial existed among the educated elite (Acts 17:32), religious elite especially the Sadducees (Matthew 22:29), and church members (1 Corinthians 15:12) Old Testament does not say a lot about the resurrection, but there are mentions of it and people did look forward to the resurrection.  Job is one who looked to the resurrection (Job 19:25-27), as did Solomon (Ecclesiastes 3:11), Isaiah (Isaiah 26:19) and Daniel (Daniel 12:2) Jesus' Teaching in the New Testament - Jesus was clear that resurrection was what was ahead for believers. Jesus talked of the resurrection of both the good and the evil (John 5:28-29), the resurrection comes on the Last Day (John 6:40), Jesus talks about His identity being tied to the resurrection (John 11:25-26). The clear declaration of Jesus is that we will be raised! There is a tie between Jewus' resurrection and the resurrection of those of us that follow Him. There are consequences if we don't believe (1 Corinthians 15:13-14), the implications of the resurrection - our salvation is dependent on the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus' resurrection guarantees that we also will rise (1 Corinthians 15:16-18), and Jesus is the "First Fruits" of those who will rise from the grave (1 Corinthians 15:20-23),  What Kind of Body are we going to have?  The New Testament gives us only a glimpse of what our bodies will be like, God has not yet revealed fully what it will be like (1 Corinthians 2:9), there is an analogy of the seed that is used to describe the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:35-36), we also learn that our bodies will be transformed from a perishable body to an imperishable body and that it is beyond our ability to comprehend (1 Corinthians 15:43-44), Continuity will continues as we will be able to recognize each other, irregardless of the change that will happen. What it it will all be like is not yet known, but we know we will be like Christ and will see Him as He is - risen! (1 John 3:2-3), and because of Jesus we have the Final Victory (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)   When we realize the resurrection is what is ahead for us as believers, the outcome is that we want to serve the Lord even more faithfully, to concentrate on the things that are important to eternity, to be immersed in the things of God, to love our Creator, to love Jesus, love the Holy Spirit and to love others (even our enemies).    Knowing what we know about resurrection, calls us to a dedicated life as a follower of Jesus.  We are not called to sit back and wait for the end, we are called to be people of faith and prayer, a people of goodness and generosity, of faithfulness and kindness.  We are to be a people who mirror the very nature of our Jesus in the way we deal with one another and the world.    Our victory through Him is what we hold on to and eagerly anticipate. We will be raised to be in God's presence forever!     Now What? Last week was about sending; this week is how to be sent. Jesus gave the most important commandments: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. We have to adore God so much that we would do anything for him. And the second part, loving our neighbour, is a particular focus this morning. We are commanded to love our neighbour because God loves us, and loves our neighbour. We need three things: a teapot, representing relational contacts with those around us; a big porch, representing a place where people can shelter and experience God's love and the fruits of the Spirit in others; and the cross, the only source of the costly love that we need to share.

The Poco a Poco Podcast with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal

Episode 296 - Revelation of the Resurrected One Have you ever wondered why it can be so hard to recognize Jesus, even when He's right in front of you? In this episode, the friars reflect on the post-Resurrection appearances of Jesus, moments where those closest to Him don't recognize Him at first. From Mary Magdalene in the garden to the road to Emmaus, they explore the mystery of how the risen Lord reveals Himself: personally, patiently, and often in unexpected ways. They unpack how Jesus meets people exactly where they are, in grief, confusion, doubt, and even ordinary moments and how those encounters change everything. This isn't just something that happened back then. It's a pattern that continues today. The same Jesus still comes, still pursues, and still reveals Himself in ways uniquely meant for each of us. For those who feel like they've never had that "breakthrough" moment, this episode is a gentle reminder: the Lord is closer than you think, especially in the Eucharist, where the Resurrection is made present again. Join us as we open our eyes to the risen Jesus and learn to recognize Him already at work in our lives. God is a sending God and we are a sent people. Jesus' last words are comissioning and sending his disciples, and we are part of that sending. Mission is where we learn the formational ways of Jesus and we experience the transformation of Jesus. Jesus' training of his disciples is on-the-job, but even after three years with him they make mistakes - they are fearful, feeling unprepared. But into this he speaks peace and sends them. Mission involves vulnerability, not going in our own strength, but sent to where the Holy Spirit is already at work. We are a sent and scattered people. God gives peace and purpose as he sends us.

Jesus, the perfect image of God, the perfect blessing to the nations, describes himself as the one sent by the Father, but the culmination of this is that he is the sender. Jesus sends us as the Father sent him; the cross is the unavoidable cost of mission, the means by which God defeats evil; and Jesus empowers us with the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit who hovered over the waters at creation. So what does this mean for tomorrow? Jesus sends us into our daily work as mission, which transforms our view of our work. Our work can be seen as bringing order out of chaos, reflecting God's work in creation. The mission of God is the bridge that spans the gap between the curse of Genesis and the glory of Revelation. We know who we are by the stories we tell ourselves. And this is the story, the one that shapes everything we do, that Jesus is reconciling everything to himself by his blood shed on the cross, and all our purpose and meaning comes from that.

The third week of the "Last Words" series centers on the story of the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, revealing how an encounter with the resurrected Jesus transforms confusion into clarity and despair into hope. As the disciples walk in disappointment, Jesus meets them where they are—even before they recognize Him—showing that He pursues us first in our doubt and uncertainty. Through Scripture, community, and the breaking of bread, Jesus gradually reveals Himself, opening their eyes to the truth of His resurrection. Ultimately, the encounter leads to a response: their hearts are awakened, their direction is changed, and they run to share the good news. In the same way, encountering the risen Jesus invites each of us to move from passive belief to active response.   Note Guide: https://gpw.churchcenter.com/episodes/658038/notes

Of the estimated 1,500 plays written in ancient Greece, only 33 complete works survive today—the rest were lost because medieval scribes deemed low-brow comedies and mass entertainment unworthy of expensive parchment during the transition from fragile papyrus to durable vellum, prioritizing canonical tragedies and Christian-compatible texts over Menander's seriocomic dramas and experimental works about shapeshifting heroes. The only reason we know anything about hundreds of these vanished plays is Joannes Stobaeus's fifth-century AD Anthologion, a four-volume anthology of excerpts from over 500 Greek authors compiled to educate his son Septimius, preserving bite-sized quotations that warn good people don't always prosper, power favors the shameless, and politics rarely rewards the just. Today's guest is James Romm, author of Since You're Mortal: Life Lessons from the Lost Greek Plays. We discuss how Stobaeus reveals lost works like Sophocles' Achilles' Lovers featured shapeshifting and humanized heroes far more experimental than surviving plays, why some of the lost plays may have deserved to disspear forever (sort of like VHS copies of B-movies like Deathbed: The Bed that Eats that are rotting away on thrift store shelves and haven’t been transferred to HD format) and how Romm became the first scholar to translate many of these fragments as poetry for English-language readers, restoring the rhythmic force that made them memorable on the ancient stage.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Easter is a cause for incredible celebration for many reasons, of course. But one of them is that even as astounding as Jesus' miracles of healing were, ultimately, they were signs that pointed to something greater still. They were mere shadows, and Jesus' resurrection, his resounding victory over sin and death, is the substance. In this weekend's message from John 5, Pastor Bryan shows us the healing and freedom that is found in believing in the resurrection and finding our true identity in Jesus.
