Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. In Trials (vv. 5-7)Jo. 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”2 Tim. 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,Mt. 5:11-12 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.1 Pet. 4:12-13 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion,[a] but on God, who has mercy...  19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, Ro. 8:29-30 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Jo. 10:26-27 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.1 Cor. 1:23-24 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.2 Thess. 2:13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. (Eph. 2:1-5, 8-9)  2 Cor. 4:4,6. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God... 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.1 Pet. 1:1a-b,3  1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles ... 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,Jo. 6:37, 65; 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.....65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” 17:6a-c, 12 I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.... While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction,Eph. 1:4 - he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love; (Ro. 9:14-23). This doctrine matters: Sovereign Grace is true 5 Effects of sovereign grace on the church: 1.      Humility (1 Cor. 1:28-29; Col. 3:12)2.     Gratitude (Acts 13:48)3.     Comfort (Jo. 6:44; Ro. 8:31-33)4.     Courage (1 Pet. 2:9)5.     Confidence (1 Thess. 1:4-5a-b) Faithful Hearts (vv. 50-52)1 attachment

With what kind of body do they come?”  - The hope of glory 1 Cor. 15:53-55,57 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory?  O death, where is your sting?”57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gift of Gospel Grace (vv. 38-41)1 Cor. 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.1 attachment

That's a command and its others oriented. Isa. 1:17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. Where do we start on this? Speak Justice for the Unborn (v.8) What does it mean to be human? 2 prevailing views: Person – we are valuable (sanctity of life) by virtue of the kind of being or creature we are, which is an image-bearer of almighty God. Performance – being human is nothing special, we're probably random accidents of evolution and what matters most, is what you do, or how self-aware you are. The Prolife Argument is very basic and logical: 1. Intentionally killing an innocent human being is a moral wrong. 2. Abortion on demand is the intentional killing of an innocent human being. 3. Therefore, abortion is a moral wrong. Seek Justice for the Unborn (v.9) Psa. 82:3-4 3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” We want to convince people to do 4 things: 1. Treasure human life (womb to tomb). 2. Reject abortion as the moral wrong (sin) that it is. 3. Experience God's forgiveness (hope of the gospel). 4. Rescue the innocent, one mother and one baby at a time (obey the command- “the weak and needy”). 1 attachment

Ro. 12:13 “Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.”  Care for One Another (v.25 c-d) Gal. 6:1-2 1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.    1 Thess. 5:14  “we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted (depressed), help the weak, be patient with them all.” 2 Tim. 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work. 5 Things They never say…. -           They never mention God  - especially Jesus and the HS, the comforter. -           They never mention our spiritual condition (sin). -           They never mention that suffering is meaningful within God's plan of mercy and judgment. -           They never mention that God really does forgive sinners who repent and believe in his Son. Never mention the good news. -           They never mention that all human beings are meant to become worshippers of God in Christ and be reconciled to God. What do we say then? Ro. 15:14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. Col. 3:13, .. bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.16 a-b Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom..  2 Cor. 1:3-4 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. Final scripture on this… Ja. 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. Salvation (Gen. 50:20) as we just heard today from Joseph. I can tell you the gospel is going out & the Lord is going to save people in the aftermath of that storm and recovery as hundreds of Christian volunteer workers (FBC Disaster Relief) are going to love on those victims and serve them, showing and sharing Christ and his gospel.  E.g .of 2 former church friends of mine and brothers -David Rodriguez (and Fred S).  So many stories like that..   This is a massive truth that echoes somewhat what the Lord said after the Tower in Siloam fell and killed those 18 people. Rather than directly answer the ‘why' of that disaster he told them, “Repent or you will likewise perish!” God sovereignly chooses some to suffer an affliction or tragedy so that will uniquely comfort others, even leading some to salvation (2 Cor. 1).   2. Sanctification (Ja. 1:2-4)   It is the will of God in both what he desires and what he decrees, that his children suffer because it strengthens and confirms our faith. Life is hard but that matures in the faith. I've never heard of anyone maturing in faith and character while sipping on daquiris at the beach. I love being at the beach but that's not the best way to grow in Christ likeness. Pain is.   C. S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world” (The Problem of Pain).  God uses suffering to bring us to the end of ourselves and back to Christ to draw close to him and be dependent on him and that's worth any cost.     1 Pet. 1:6-7 rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.   You don't want to be found without a tested faith when Christ returns. Listen, one of the greatest proofs in the NT of knowing you're a Christian, is not a prayer you prayed so many years ago with a decision, or even giving and church attendance as good as those things are. It's endurance- perseverance of faith (fortitude). Will you hang on to Jesus with everything you've got when you have nothing else? As someone wrote, “You don't really know Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.”     3. Glorification (Jo. 9:3)

Church Life            “Message of the Martyr; Call and Covenant”                                      Acts 7:1-8   The Call (vv. 1-4)   The Covenant (vv. 5-8)   - Gen. 17:1-6  - Jo. 8:42-44b, 47 Jo. 8:56-58 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” 57 So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”[d] 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”    Heb. 11:8-9 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.  Gen. 22:2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Gen. 22:7-14)   Ro. 4:1-3 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Isa. 53:5-6 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.   Jer. 31:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people Eze. 36:26-27 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.   Ro. 4:11a He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised.    Heb. 11:10,13-14, 16 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.... 13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland....  16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessnessis revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”.. 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
