Na segunda edição do Podcast The Filosofia of Brazil, questionamos a legitimidade do cientificismo a partir do texto “Seis sinais do cientificismo” de Susan Haack. Nesse debate online, estavam presentes Matheus Baliu (PUCRJ), Rodolpho Nagel (UFF), Luan Rafael Marques (UFRJ), Raphael Torres (UFF) e Sergio Francisco (UNIRIO). O mediador do debate foi Elan Marinho (PUCRJ). Transmitimos a gravação do podcast ao vivo pelo canal de voz "PODCAST", no Discord The Filosofia of Brazil ( https://discord.gg/RKAsY6m ), às 15hs do dia 17/01/2020. #Cientificismo #Ciência #Filosofia --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
This episode features an article originally published in CBHD's publication, Dignitas, by Dr. Susan Haack in which she explores the dynamics of the physician-patient relationship as she seeks to understand the continuum of possibilities between overt physician paternalism and unbridled patient autonomy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cbhd/support

Our legal systems are rooted in rules and procedures concerning the burden of proof, the weighing of evidence, the reliability and admissibility of testimony, among much else. It seems obvious, then, that the law is in large part an epistemological enterprise. And yet when one looks at the ways in which judges have wielded epistemological concepts, there is plenty of room for concern. In Evidence Matters: Science, Proof, and Truth in the Law (Cambridge University Press, 2014), Susan Haack brings her skill as an epistemologist to bear on a series of tangles concerning the legal concepts of proof, evidence, and reliability, especially as they apply in a series of notorious toxic tort cases. Along the way, she exposes several philosophical confusions in the law's current understanding of the epistemological concepts it wields, and shows how her own distinctive epistemology–Foundherentism–can be useful to the law.

Segunda temporada (2011), programa 34. Jorge A. Quillfeldt (Biofísica-UFRGS), Carlos A. Miraglia (UFPel) e Jeferson J. Arenzon (IF-UFRGS), conversam sobre Susan Haack e sua defesa da ciência.
Susan Haack, formerly Fellow of New Hall, Cambridge, and then professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, is presently Cooper Senior Scholar in Arts and Sciences, Professor of Philosophy, and Professor of Law at the University of Miami. Her areas of interest include philosophy of logic and language, epistemology and metaphysics, philosophy of science, including issues of scientific testimony in court, Pragmatism, and feminism. Professor Haack is the author of several celebrated books, including Deviant Logic, Philosophy of Logics, Evidence and Inquiry: Towards Reconstruction in Epistemology, Deviant Logic, Fuzzy Logic: Beyond the Formalism, Manifesto of a Passionate Moderate: Unfashionable Essays, and Defending Science -- Within Reason: Between Scientism and Cynicism as well as of numerous articles. She has been widely reviewed and cited in general interest publications such as the Times Literary Supplement, the Wilson Quarterly, and the Chronicle of Higher Education, as well as in specialized journals. In this conversation with D.J. Grothe, Haack explores the values of science, and addresses its critics, both supernaturalists and post-modernists. She also defends science as being continuous with common sense, explores whether science and religion are compatible, and talks about whether or not science can ever have any relevance to ethics.
