Liz Casa Perez is sort of infamous in the Trail Racing Over Texas community because she occasionally puts up a canopy emblazoned, "You Are Not Alone." She is also an accomplished ultrarunner, who currently lives in Victoria, Texas and loves the 100K distance. She recently attempted the 100M race at Habanero Hundred, but did not finish. Still, she is undeterred and ready to tackle it next year. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thestubborntortoise/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thestubborntortoise/support
I spent six hours on Saturday running out .75 miles to a traffic cone that I named Bob and then back to the start over and over again. I was one of the slackers by comparison to some of my friends who spent 100 hours out there. This madness was the Jackalope Jam, a timed event put on by Trail Racing Over Texas. I found the experience uplifting, even though my left hip was hurting. (I'm going to start Airrosti therapy tomorrow to address this.) It was great seeing friends, old and new, each time you went out and back because we were passing each other. I liked it so much that I am doing this again next year. "Just" the six-hour version. Please join me for a fun conversation about the Texas race schedules for next year. I combine the schedules and discuss them month by month. This is a replay of my Youtube live stream on 12/18/2021.
I review the 2021 Texas schedule by merging Tejas Trails and Trail Racing Over Texas schedules so that it is easy to plan your year of racing.
Agatha is an ultrarunner, and her current distance PR in a single race is 152.0 miles at Jackalope Jam (72 hours). She’s self-admittedly not fast, but has the courage to endure. Her newest planned endeavor is a 600k running race around the state of Texas in February, 2021 (“Tour de los Tejas”, from Trail Racing Over Texas). Agatha plans to use this race as her primary fundraiser for her first Mission Trip to Costa Rica, in March of 2021.
In this episode of the Texas Devil Running Talk Show, we are with Rob Goyen the Race Director for Trail Racing Over Texas from Houston. He's a race director, business owner, and an ultra runner. He shares his story of how Trail Racing Over Texas came to be. He also shares his running story and more!Trail Racing Over Texas Social Media and WebsiteFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/trailracingovertexasInstagram - @trailracingovertexasWebsite - http://www.trailracingovertexas.com/
Robert Goyen, a native Texan, is a race director for Trail Racing Over Texas, one of the largest trail running companies in the country, and owns The Summit Shop, a site to buy and sell new and used running gear. Rob began distance running after battling addiction and obesity for years and getting sober in 2012. A business-driven and service-focused man, he went to the University of Houston and concentrates on his community when making business decisions. Also a family man, Rob lives in Houston with his wife, son, and daughter.
Leah Brasher is a repeat guest. She was on my podcast last year, along with three other ultrarunners. I asked her to be back on the show because she’s been the queen of virtual races these last few months and I wanted to talk to her about that. Leah is a nurse and an avid runner. When races started getting canceled in March, Leah decided she wanted to find a way to support one of her favorite small racing companies—Trail Racing Over Texas, aka TROT. She did this by signing up for many of TROT’s virtual races. Since March 21st, Leah has completed about a dozen virtual races, including three 100Ks and four 50Ks. In this episode, we talk about her virtual racing adventures and how to support smaller racing companies. Also, Leah messaged me after the interview and asked me to share some information that she forgot to share while talking to me. TROT’s next virtual race will be the Trans-Texas Virtual Run. This is a virtual run across Texas…879 miles. You can run this distance by yourself or as part of a team. Registration is already open and the race starts July 1st. Episode 72? Welp, the shit starts getting really real at mile 72, so you better get up outta that chair and hang on! New Social Distance Challenge? Check! This one is all about…you’ll have to listen. Speaking of listening, we love our Patreon supporters, even the ones that don’t listen- what are we talking about? Fucking LISTEN! We dive deep into a lot of topics but most importantly we ask “what can the community do to help each other right now?” Below you will see a lot of links to shoe stores, race companies and businesses we feel could use your help during this global pandemic. If you’re not able to buy anything consider a donation to one of them. I know us humans are mostly shitty animals; we can’t smell as well as beagles, we can’t see as well as eagles (that rhymes my dudes), we can’t swim like dolphins or fly like hawks but dammit- we got to be the dominant species on this planet because of our ability to band the fuck together and cooperate. Let’s show our love to this community and support the ones that may be hurting right now. Also us extroverts are struggling right now because we like y’all and really miss high fives and hugs and group runs.
