With over 150 races on UltraSignup and years of experience in both radio and accounting, Chris shares the wild journey from small-town sports broadcasting to being the emotional anchor of ultrarunning's most epic live streams.Follow Chris on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clword77/We talk about what goes into calling a multi-day race like Cocodona, the behind-the-scenes chaos (including some live broadcast bloopers), how Aravaipa has become the gold standard in race coverage, and why accessibility and storytelling are fueling the sport's explosion. Plus, Chris opens up about getting into Western States this year after six years of lottery heartbreak—and what it means. If you've ever gotten sucked into the Cocodona livestream chat, dreamed of finishing your first ultra, or wondered how the heck someone commentates for 100 hours straight, this episode is for you.And yes... John's main discussion focuses on the effects the sport of ultra will realize as prize money and podiums become more of a focus. He names the “oligarchy” whom he believes is in control of ultra's narrative, including the prize money narrative, and how they stand to make money that will NOT trickle down to smaller events. An episode many will label as “controversial” as John displays his passion for inclusion and accessibility in our sport, and maintaining our focus on community.

Arizona Territory, April 30, 1871. The canyon known as Aravaipa lies still in the predawn darkness, the only sounds to be heard in the early-morning calm the song of birds and the lilt of running water as it courses its way toward the nearby San Pedro River. But upon this paradise all hell is about to break loose. With Native American land being squeezed and squeezed by settlers, and relations becoming more and more violent as indigenous customs are degraded and exterminated, things are at breaking point in Arizona. Nearly 500 native men, women, and children have moved into the US military base, Camp Grant, for protection, yet, the Tucson Committee of Public Safety still see them as a threat. Summary The Cocodona 250-mile recap episode. The preparation, the beginning of the race, the middle of the race, and the end of the race. Take a listen in on one of the premiere 200 mile running events and how it went for me from mistakes to triumphs. Also, Aravaipa is simply the best race directing organization. Our mission is to help runners take their next step along their ultra running journey. With this series of Race Spotlight episodes, we want to introduce you to races that you may or may not have heard of by speaking directly to the Race Directors to give you all the information you need. We have featured a few of the races put on by Aravaipa running which is based out of the Southwest, but what many runners are not aware of is that Aravaipa has also partnered with White Mountain Endurance to host races on the East Coast. This episode spotlights one of those races, the Jigger Johnson 100. According to their website, the Jigger Johnson 100 is one of the world's most grueling trail races. Located in White Mountains National Park in New Hampshire, the race is a 100 mile out and back with an actual mileage of 112 miles and 32,000 feet of elevation gain with a cutoff of 54 hours. Some key info though, the max elevation is 4,340 feet, so you won't be climbing Mt Rushmore and probably not dealing with any form of altitude sickness or acclimation needed. But the race is absolutely tough, remote, and is designed for those that are comfortable being off the grid. Take a few minutes to learn more about this incredible race, the Jigger Johnson, from co Race Directors, Kristina Folcik and Rem Stone. In this episode, Troy Meadows sits down with Corinne Shalvoy to talk all things trail running. Corinne is a mother, a wife, and a very fast lady running on team Aravaipa. From running her first Marathon with her husband in over 5 hours many years ago to running sub 3 hours, taking 1st place, and setting a massive PR at the Tucson Marathon last year, Corinne is an amazing ambassador for the community.  We also discuss a lot about her family history with trail running and ultra running, including her uncle Rick Trulio his founding of the Imogene Pass Run and The HardRock 100 and how she keeps coming back to the race to pace and volunteer and what it means to be a member of the long-standing colorado ultra community. We touch on raising two young boys with her husband, who is also an ultrarunner, and how they balance their running and family life. We also dive deep into why it is essential to make time for yourself so you can show up as the best version of yourself in the other aspects of your life. Last year Corinne toed the line at CCC and finished 25th and 8th American, topping off a fantastic season and showing herself just how far she has come.  We also discuss dealing with and recovering from a recent knee injury and how it is important to have patience and give yourself grace in the healing process. As 40-year-old athletes, we also discuss why physical therapy and strength training are so necessary as we age.  Corinne is also a founding member of the Freetrail Fems, the female running group within the Freetrail community, and how important it is to provide a safe space to explore women-specific topics in trail running. Proceeds from the book go to Northeast Delta Dental Oral Health Foundation to improve access to dental care and also to the Tom Walton scholardship fund. Stories From the Starting Line Aravaipa Running White Mountain Endurance Delta Dental Northeast Tom Raffio The Cog Railway Stories From the Starting Line: 'There are people who run occasionally or run as part of another sport, and there are people who need to run for their mental wellbeing. Tom Raffio and Ellen Raffio address the latter group in Stories from the Starting Line. The couple, who met running, runs more than 100 races a year in New Hampshire and Northern New England and uses this depth of experience to write about the diverse runners they meet at races. The runners who share their stories are parents running pushing jogging strollers, men and women still running strong in their seventies, women who had to fight for their right to run, professional runners chasing wins and many more just looking for an adventure on their feet. Tom and Ellen talk with runners including 1984 Olympic Marathon Winner Joan Benoit Samuelson; Jacqueline Gareau, the real winner of the controversial 1980 Boston Marathon; and elite mountain runner Joseph Gray along with dozens of others. The bookincludes runners of all ages and abilities who run all kinds of distances and terrain from 5Ks on the road to marathons, ultramarathons and triathlons. It highlights the nationally recognized Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race, a 7.6 mile race up the auto road to the Mount Washington Summit in Northern New Hampshire, along with the numerous local road races that both raise money for charity and bring area runners together to do what they love. This includes the story of Millennium Running, a New Hampshire running events company that reimagined road racing so that when COVID-19 hit, the races could go on, which was not the case in most of the country. All these stories, and more, are part of Stories from the Starting Line.'   EDM set timestamps: 00:00:00 EDM set 1 with 'Thunderbirds' intro 14:40 Kristina Folcik Introduction 18:30 Stomp intro comments 33:20 Pre-race briefing warning 36:00 Pre-race briefing 1:03:00 1st call to line-up for race start 1:06:00 Cog departs 1:07:30 Cog Whistle for race start 1:10:43 Tom Raffio comments 1:11:00 2nd EDM set 1:49:00 Tom Raffio announces winners 2:20:00 First finishers return back to starting line, on-trail 2:29:00 Tom Raffio comments regarding Cog winners and 'Stories From the Starting Line.' 2:54:00 Tom Raffio interviews the winners, Joesph Gray, Amber Ferreirra and Eric Blake. 3:00:00 3rd EDM set; House 3:39:00 Stomp comments 4:08:00 Stomp's closing comments

Have you ever: ·        Felt like there was a gap between what you are experiencing spiritually and what the New Testament describes? ·        Wanted God to speak more directly with you? ·        Wondered if your relationship with God is as deep as it should or can be? ·        Wondered what Jesus was talking about when he describes “springs of living water” flowing from those who believe in God? If so, David Takle in his book: “Forming:  A Work of Grace” talks about how to take your relationship with God to a deeper and more meaningful level.  In this interview he talks about his book and how a person can work with God to build a more interactive and satisfying connection with God.  You can reach David Takle at David@KingdomFormation.org. His course can be found at Forming-Course.Com His books can be found at Amazon.com or humbleshack.net Find out more information at KingdomFormation.org   It's April 11th, 2023 and I hope you had a fantastic Easter weekend.  Here in Tucson, we were praying to have over 200 in attendance.  Prior to Covid, we had several Easter services of over 300 and yet we haven't broken 200 in over three years.  God blessed our Sunday service with over 220 in attendance.  We also had our first Spanish-speaking service after our English service.  Angel Armenta is doing a great job leading our Spanish work. ·       We hired a great couple to lead our campus ministry, Coleman and Alexa Gordon.  They moved to Tucson at the end of March. ·       I read a book called “Backpacking with the Saints” and in the book, the author talks about backpacking Aravaipa Canyon in Arizona.  I've been wanting to do that since I read about it 6 or seven years ago.  So last week I took my two ministry interns, Kevin Lu and Coleman Gordan and we spent three days and two nights backpacking through 23 miles of Aravaipa creek.  It's a combination of trail and hiking in the stream.  Our feet were constantly wet and the scenery was staggering.  You have to make reservations because only 10 people per day are allowed to be in the canyon.  It was super bonding, tiring and we made a great memory, walking, talking and praying together. ·       I'm looking forward to the Climb Conference November 3oth in Dallas Texas.  I want to ask you to please register to go.  This Friday, April 15th is the last day to register for the early bird discount of $125 per person.  After that, it will go up to $150 per person.  If you are listening to this podcast, you need to come.  You are the type person who will be inspired and motivated by the fellowship and preaching.  Just go to RobSkinner.Com and look for the Climb Tab.   How to Support The Rob Skinner Podcast I want to say thank you for supporting the Rob Skinner Podcast.    I started this podcast at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in an effort to inspire people to multiply disciples, leaders and churches.  I wanted to learn from others and share what I've learned over the years.  God has enabled me and my wife Pam to plant churches in 1.     Portland, Oregon 2.   Anchorage, Alaska 3.   Ashland, Oregon 4.   Tucson, Arizona 5.    and Flagstaff, Arizona.    My dream is to plant at least five more churches by the year 2030.  Your support will help me to turn that dream into reality.  Your tax-deductible gift will be given to get those churches off the ground.  Please give today at: https://tucsoncoc.breezechms.com/give/online   Please look for and select the “General Fund” when you give.
