Friend of the community and friend of WKEI radio, Brock Tumbleson, passed away over the weekend. Brock, a former Kewanee Citizen of the Year, has been a major part of the Kewanee community for most of his life. Whether it was working with Kiwanis or the Chamber of Commerce or his beloved Salvation Army, Brock was a consummate volunteer, dedicating endless hours, money, and effort to raising the profile of the Kewanee Salvation Army. The annual Salvation Army concert is a highlight of the holiday season and much of that is thanks to Brock's effort. This morning on WKEI, Brock's long time friend, Russ Hughes, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to remember Brock Tumbleson.

A good deed done by the staff of Tumbleson Automotive has gone viral. Late Thursday evening, a good Samaritan posted on social media about how a group of seniors on a planned trip to Hawaii had been stranded at the Quad Cities Airport. It appears that their connecting flight to O'Hare Airport in Chicago had been grounded due to heavy fog. The Facebook poster asked if there was anyone who had a bus who might be able to help these people out. If they didn't make their morning flight in Chicago, each of them were out $6000 dollars. Seeing the post, a member of the staff at Tumbleson Automotivie called their boss, Mike Tumbleson and the team sprung into action. Digging one of their buses from their party bus fleet out of the snow, and grabbing a second bus for the overflowing amount of luggage involved, they went to the QC Airport, grabbed the group of seniors and made the trip to Chicago in time for the connecting flight. By the time Mike joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday morning, the group of seniors was in the air, on their way to Hawaii with memories they will never forget about a group of Kewanee folks who pitched in in a moment of need. We call that The Good News.

The annual Kewanee Salvation Army Concert wasn't going to happen this year due to COVID-19. Then, Bud Johnson of the Wanee Cinemas got involved. He asked if the concert was going to happen and that if it did and was recorded, he would play the concert on the big screen at the Cinema. That was the plan before the Wanee Cinemas was forced to close for anything other than popcorn sales, but the idea to record the concert persisted. The concert has now been fully recorded and uploaded to YouTube where it can be joined and where you can find information for donating to the Salvation Army.
