On her birthday in 2018, Mollie Verdier wrote a letter asking God to reveal her divine purpose to her. Soon thereafter, Mollie and her husband Nathan experienced infant loss. Mollie went into a dark place. Compounding her loss, Mollie and Nathan didn't know how to grieve together and were distant from one another. One night, as Mollie watched Nathan pray at the foot of her bed, she asked God to soften her heart. Mollie awoke at 3am the next morning and knew what God was calling them to—Mollie and Nathan created Morgan's Place. "Morgan's Place was established to assist families through the grieving process when experiencing the loss of a baby. We aid this process by memory-making, birth planning, funeral and burial services, and post-partum support groups for parents." Listen to this healing podcast and be inspired to discover your divine purpose, too!

In today's episode I get to talk to my dear friend Lauryn Laszczak, someone I consider a soul sister and an incredible woman that has taught me so much. Lauryn (Laz-check) is a Female Founder and Somatic Business Coach for Women. It is her passion to help conscious leaders redefine what “success” looks and feels like by living a slow and intentional life. She's spent the past 14 years building businesses and guiding women into a deeper exploration of themselves and the impact they're capable of having through their business and slow living. Lauryn lives a slow, intentional, and meaningful life in Metro Detroit, Michigan with her high school sweetheart turned husband, three children and one angel son.Trigger Warning: This episode discusses infant loss and grief as Lauryn describes her journey through losing her son and learning to heal. Here's what we talk about with Lauryn: The duality of loving your children on Earth while allowing the space and grace to honor and grieve a child that has been lost. How grief and joy can coexist in the same place at the same time and how the losses form who we are as individuals.Feelings of shame and guilt many women feel throughout their lives and the ways you can learn to move past those feelings.Giving yourself permission to be still and slow down to cultivate intentionality in your life. How small mindset shifts and moments of consistent changes can help us to find more love, fun, and freedom in our lives.Being still and slowing down can look different for everyone and might include movement, using your voice, or being in certain spaces to enter a place of calm. How slow living forces us to protect our energy and allows our children to match the state we are in.Modeling and communicating boundaries and needs to your children reinforces caring for yourself as well as teaching them important life lessons.Resources:You can find Lauryn on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iam_laurynAnd at her website: www.laurynlaszczak.comFor more insight into parenting in today's world, be sure to subscribe to my Substack: https://www.albiona.substack.comAnd be sure to follow me on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@theparentingreframe and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/theparentingreframe for more parenting tips and advice.

Sue Simms got down on her knees and prayed in her hospital room. She awaited the test results revealing if her second daughter would have the same fatal birth defect she lost her first daughter to. Sue told God that she trusted His plan and would follow—she just asked to know if her baby would live or die. As soon as Sue stood from her time of prayer, the doctor returned to tell Sue that her baby girl was healthy and would go home with Sue and her husband. Many years later, this baby would become a mama and experience the same heart-wrenching loss with her first baby as Sue did. Grace-filled lessons abound in this story that captures the power of surrender, the gift of steadfast faith and the blessings of holy motherhood. Listen and be filled with the extraordinary hope that only God can provide!

Editorial note: The following podcast contains a discussion of pregnancy/infant loss. We cling to our faith in times of joy and sorrow, and Father Dave welcomes Dr. Abigail Jorgenson to discuss her new book “A Catholic Guide to Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss: Compassionate Answers to Difficult Questions.” Abigail is an assistant professor of sociology and healthcare ethics at Saint Louis University, as well as a certified doula and childbirth educator.
What is a doula, and what are the different types of doulas? How many people use doulas during childbirth, and what does a doula actually do? Are there any randomized, controlled trials on doula support? What are the benefits and risks of having a doula, if any? And if the evidence shows that doulas improve health outcomes… then why are some hospitals around the world unsupportive of labor companions? And how can you find a doula if you're interested in having one at your birth? Today's podcast episode with Dr. Dekker and Sara Ailshire, MA, is chock full of research from our peer-reviewed Evidence Based Birth® Signature Article: The Evidence on Doulas. This episode is an interview that I did with Michelle and Logan Peterson. Earlier this year, they lost their newborn daughter just ten days after she was born. This is their story about death, loss, and the hope Easter, the Savior, and His resurrection bring to our lives. Don't miss it! Here is a link to my website. Not only can you find the podcast and resources mentioned, but you will also find information on how to purchase my book, "Feasting on the Words of Christ." This book contains an easy five-step method for studying the Book of Mormon to receive personal direction in your life and answers to your prayers. It's a perfect companion for this year's study of the Book of Mormon.
We loved getting to know Kelsi and Ryan and to have an opportunity to hear their hearts for helping others navigate through loss and grief. There are principles throughout their story that can be applied to any season of life. The Cole family is a beautiful trio in their photo, but behind the scenes, they hold a story of tremendous loss, resilience, and faith. Their journey together began in 2010 with a shared desire for a Godly marriage. Through the trials of miscarriage and stillbirth, they discovered the necessity of continually leaning into Jesus. Now, through their work at Foreknown Ministries, Kelsi and Ryan create, coach, and connect people to Jesus after pregnancy and infant loss. They know that it's only through Jesus that they are still married and help others see the Light in difficult situations. Today's episode is part 2 of our 3 part bonus series on Pregnancy and Infant Loss. Last week we heard from Jonathan and Peta PItts as they shared about the loss of their son. On today's episode I have a very real and vulnerable conversation on the topic of miscarriage with Rachel Lohman.Rachel is the author of Miscarried Hope: Journeying with Jesus through Pregnancy and Infant Loss and founder of Hope Again Collective, a handmade jewelry line that shares the stories of loss moms and has donated over $10,000 in practical grief resources from jewelry sales to women going through miscarriage or stillbirth. She is a mother to two living children and one in Heaven. Rachel and her husband Mark pastor The Bridge, a bilingual church in Southern California.Through sharing her personal experience of miscarriage, Rachel is helping other mother's erase the stigma and shame that surrounds miscarriage and helping mother's find hope on the other side. If you've walked down this road, I hope through this conversation you can believe there is hope on the other side of the heartbreak. If you haven't experienced miscarriage, I hope this conversation gives you new ways you can be a better friends to the women in your life who are walking this road. Ronald Regan once said, “When a child loses his parents, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses their partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn't a word to describe them.” This month's bonus series is on Pregnancy and Infant Loss. We have three episodes covering this topic with guests who have walked this difficult path. On today's episode I have a very real and vulnerable conversation with my friends Jonathan and Peta Pitts. Jonathan and Peta Pitts have been married for two years. Finding each other later in life, they live in Franklin, TN where they are raising Jonathan's four biological daughters and preparing for the arrival of their son. Jonathan is a Pastor at Church of the City and Ministry Executive. Peta is a career actress who has worked all over the world in theater and television. Earlier this year Jonathan and Peta walked the devastating road of losing their newborn son. There were many times in this interview that I was moved to tears, not just because of their heartbreak, but because of their bravery and how they have fought for their faith through this trial. These interviews are vulnerable and can be difficult to listen to if you've walked this road. Please listen with care and know that you are not alone!
