I've had several influencers on the pod, but have yet to have one that does content creation full time AND is on her way to becoming a lawyer. She does it all! Gabby is a full-time fashion influencer and going into her final year of law school. She did her undergrad at UBC, Masters at TRU, and now law school at TRU. Unexpectedly content creation has become a full-time job and she has been trying to balance both law and being an influencer. She never really expected content creation to become a huge component of her life, but it started to take off in her first year of law school, so she decided to keep going (versus stopping it). We chat about if she ever sees both careers merging together or if she'll keep it separate, how she grew her page, learning that she had hearing loss at the age of 25 and dealing with that big life change, how she does long-distance and finding the love of her life! Loved chatting with Gabby! What an angel.

This week Mike and Sarah talk with author Heather Avis about her new book Everyone Belongs. Everyone Belongs is a joyful rhyming picture book that encourages children to not only value all people but to also make room for their differences in order to make a better, brighter, and more beautiful world. We know everyone's different; no two are the same. You belong in our show! the sisters exclaimed. Macy and Tru are putting on a spectacular talent show to highlight the ways they love to perform. Other kids arrive, eager to participate but unsure if they'll be welcomed. Since the two sisters know that everything is a lot more fun when everybody's included, they're determined to find a role in the show for each person.  Inspiring, encouraging, and packed with joy, Everyone Belongs is an important reminder that it's possible to make room for all people and all abilities—and that life is brighter when we give every person a chance to shine. Heather Avis is founder and chief visionary officer at The Lucky Few, a social awareness brand on a mission to make a more inclusive and loving world with an emphasis on shifting the Down syndrome narrative. The author of Everyone Belongs (WaterBrook, on sale 8/9/22) and the New York Times bestselling children's book Different—A Great Thing to Be! she runs The Lucky Few's hit Instagram account and is the author of a book and co-host of the podcast by the same name. A former education specialist teaching high school students, Heather is popular speaker and a mother to three adopted children (two with Down syndrome). She has been featured on many media outlets including The Today Show, PopSugar, Relevant, Focus on the Family and written for TIME and The Week. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Josh, and their three kids Truly, August and Macy.

Let's take a look at the Neflix adaptation of Heartstopper, a teen romance of two boys who meet, become friends, and fall in love. This series, and the graphic novels they are pulled from, subverts tropes and cliches left and right in order to give us a straightforward and powerful message about the beauty of self-discovery. (Also, there are at least 2 different ways to say the name Tara, and I apparently use them interchangeably. *shrug) “Brigitte,” Installment One of Tales from Vlaydor, is available on ebook and audiobook. A complete transcript can be found on the show's webpage.  [00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to the show Writing in the Tiny House. I am on a mission to abolish the idea of the tormented artist by sharing what I know about writing, publishing, and just life in general, so that you can have the tools to produce the content that you have been eager to write. If you have this steps in place, you can produce a short story in as few as three months or a novel in as few as 18 months. And hopefully through the ideas in this podcast, you will have the wisdom to adjust that timeline if you need to. I am Devin Davis, the guy who lives and writes in a tiny house in Northern Utah. Thank you for tuning in and please enjoy today's episode of Writing in the Tiny House.  [00:01:00] Hello, and welcome to today's episode of Writing in the Tiny House. My goodness, friends. It is the final episode that I have for you in this very special month of June. I don't know about you, but this Pride month has been a huge roller coaster for me. There has been a lot to do. There has been a lot to celebrate. And I wanted to carry on with this for one final episode, but I promise it applies directly to creative writing, but we are going to delve in to a Netflix series and a comic coincidentally enough that has made its way into my heart and into the hearts of millions of people around the world. we are going to be talking about heart stopper, which is a Netflix series taken from the comic of the same name, which is created by a woman named Alice Oseman. Heart stopper came to Netflix just over two months ago [00:02:00] and it has been received with incredible positivity and a huge fandom already. I don't think that the people who created heart stopper could have ever imagined the success that it would get in just two months. And it has been astounding. Some of the things that I have seen on the internet, heart stopper has encouraged so many people to share in such safe spaces, their own stories of coming out, their own stories of struggling with this or that. And it has created wonderful communities of engagement for people to share these stories. And I personally believe that one of the most important things that we can do to heal one another is to listen to each other's stories. So today on Writing in the Tiny House, we are going to pick apart Episode three of heart stopper. And yeah, this is going to have spoilers. And so if you want to go ahead and hop on the [00:03:00] bandwagon and join the fandom of heart stopper, please do that. And if you don't want to hear these spoilers, then go ahead and pause this episode and take four hours out of your life to watch Season One of heart stopper on Netflix, and then come back and listen to what I have to say about it. This is not a critique of the show, and this is not a review of the show. I'm not going to pretend that everything about the show is perfect. But what we are going to do is talk about subverted tropes and subverted cliches, and the power that comes with keeping a storyline simple. I mean, sometimes a complicated storyline is absolutely what you need. If you are writing thrillers, if you are reading thrillers, then that's kind of what comes along with the genre. However, if you have a very simple message about a situation that is oftentimes misunderstood, sometimes keeping it simple is the [00:04:00] most powerful thing to do. As I go through episode three of heart stopper, I'm going to share with you what happens in the episode and then share with you the different cliches that come about in teen romances and in some of these other LGBTQ plus related movies and other series that heart stopper avoided. And what consequences it would have had had they played into that. So hard stopper is a very basic storyline and I love that. I mean, in the tagline for heart stopper, Alice Oseman says, boy meets boy, boys become friends, boys fall in love. And it's as simple as that. our main characters are Charlie and Nick. Charlie is an openly gay kid and Nick is a rugby player, a popular one too. And they attend the same. [00:05:00] All boys, school of Tru um, grammar school. And they are a grade apart and due to reassignments and stuff, they're in the same form and this is how they meet each other. Through this series, we see Charlie coming to grips with self-esteem and his role of how he gets to have some of the happiness that other people can give him. He has a history of being bullied and his coming out was not taken. Perfectly his coming out story was not easily accepted in an all boys school. On the other side of the coin or on the other half of this relationship, we have Nick who has, it seems never had a moment to explore or think about his sexual preferences or his sexual identity until he meets Charlie. And. This first [00:06:00] season of heart stopper covers his coming to terms with his bisexuality. He comes to realize that he likes both boys and girls, and this is him coming to feel that out and to embrace what that actually is. So in seat, let's see, in episode three, The main part that I wish to talk about is the birthday party. So this is a privileged kid's birthday party. He comes from a rich background and they rented an entire venue for him to celebrate his birthday. So the really like the ballroom, the really high ceilings. And of course, if you follow the staircases, there are empty rooms. all around. This is a very big building and they rented the whole thing to celebrate this kid's 16th birthday. During this party, it seems that everybody showed up and there are two other characters that become very, very [00:07:00] important. I feel at this point in time. So Nick is. Brought face to face with a girl that he kissed three years ago. Her name is Tara and. While they're talking to each other. they have a private moment for a second in kind of a quiet hallway or a corridor or whatever. Tara gets the courage to confide in Nick that she is dating a girl and that she is gay and yay. And Nick appears to be really appreciative of this and through their little conversation. We realized that Tara is very new to this scene, but she and her girlfriend Darcy are deciding to be more brave and less conservative about how they are. Dealing with their relationship. So they have decided to become a little bit more brave and to be a little bit more public with how they are showing their affection to one another. [00:08:00] And Nick seems to admire this a few moments later, everybody is on the dance floor and the camera zooms in on Tara and Darcy. and they're dancing. They're having a great time. There are the fluorescent lights everywhere. There's the really loud, really exciting dance music. And the two of them share a kiss and it is one of the funnest. beautiful moments in a teen romance that I have witnessed in a long time. And not only is it just a beautiful moment, but everything that comes afterward. So they are in a crowded dance floor and they have the courage to kiss each other potentially in front of all of these peers. and then immediately after the kiss, they get to celebrate by dancing. And so they're holding each other's hands. They're doing the spinning in circles thing because the age group of this crowd is about 15 and 16 years old. And so they're [00:09:00] celebrating as teenagers would, this was a big milestone for them. And it seems that even though it is a crowded room, Nobody really saw them do it except Nick and Nick stands there and it is obvious. With the way it is portrayed. And with the way it is filmed that Nick finds this to be a very special moment and a big gift for him to explore his own feelings and a few moments later, he and Charlie go to one of the empty rooms up upstairs. Now they're not bedrooms. This is a venue. This is like a smaller ballroom upstairs, or a smaller meeting room upstairs. And they're alone in this other room and they find the moments to very adorably share with each other that they have feelings for each other. And they, Nick and Charlie share their first kiss [00:10:00] immediately after that, because Nick is Venturing into uncharted waters. He hears some of his friends call his name. So he runs out of this smaller room to go talk to them because he's just worried. He doesn't want them barging in to see him and Charlie kissing and Charlie who is dealing with some of his past trauma and some of his distrust and his own self-esteem issues. Cause his dad. Completely heartbroken to come pick him up and he leaves the venue and goes home. And you expect this to be probably the worst thing in the whole world, as far as the way the series goes. However, at the end of episode, three, Nick shows up in the rain and you know, that they are going to make things right. And that is how episode three ends. So. Let's go through this again and talk about all of the tropes and cliches that heart stopper [00:11:00] chose to avoid in this. And I'm not, I'm probably not going to be able to touch on all of them, but I am going to mention some really big ones that show up in teen romance. And I'm going to say right now that some of the things that show up with the LGBTQ representation or the one or two LGBTQ characters, oftentimes those characters are there to be funny. it seems the male character is there to be snappy and witty and sassy and. Oftentimes, that is just kind of the role that they play, the stereotype that they get to be in with heart stopper. The entire thing is based on same gender, or there is one relationship that is transgender. And so representation is all over the place. But in this series, everything is treated as completely normal and that is already a huge. Step that is [00:12:00] already a very big point to be made here, but let's get to episode three again, to this birthday party, it's already kind of a trope that there is a rich kid who can rent out an entire venue for his 16th birthday. I was raised in very small town USA, and I don't remember really anybody celebrating their 16th that big. I mean, perhaps we could have rented out like, the front room of the days in or something. I mean, there were nice places in the city I grew up in, but these really big 16th birthday things, weren't something that we saw much where I was raised. I do know however that they do happen immediately. we see the absence of things that come up in a lot of teen romance or teen drama And the first thing that we get to not see is the presence of a lot of heavy drinking. So in almost I, in so many American. Teen dramas or teen romance series [00:13:00] and movies. If there is a party, it is going to be unsupervised and there's going to be buckets of underage drinking. I know that underage drinking is a thing, but it seems that it shows up everywhere in cinema. I also know that this does not take place in America and underage drinking as far younger over there. And so that's fine. But this is actually the important thing. Nobody was drunk at the party. there might have been something that I missed. I mean, there was one character kind of acting silly, but there wasn't drinking there wasn't drugs. There wasn't even talk of any of those things. And the reason why that's important is because these super tender moments that happen while at the party in. Their own private ways. That first conversation between Nick and Tara, if Nick or Tara had been drunk or on something that conversation couldn't have been so intimate and so full of trust immediately, [00:14:00] it was because everybody was level headed that Tara decided to open up to Nick and tell him that she was a lesbian and was dating Darcy also. On the dance floor when Tara and Darcy share in their kiss in front of all of their peers, the energy of that would've been entirely different. Had anybody been impaired, if that had not been a completely level headed kiss filled with love and joy and excitement and a huge moment of celebration, it wouldn't have carried the same weight and it would've not affected Nick in the same way. Did. then later with the first kiss that Nick and Charlie share, we have all seen the movie where that first kiss or that first. moment or that first vulnerable moment, one of the people in the relationship is drunk and does something by mistake. It would've completely ruined the storyline of this season, or it would've just created a [00:15:00] problem that would've had to be resolved later and probably wouldn't have been resolved very well.  When when Tara and Darcy were on the floor and they have their kiss, they get a moment to celebrate and a moment to be excited about it. And Nick was there to see, there is always in a team drama. It seems that there is somebody looking out to stab somebody in the back. If that kiss would've been immediately ruined. It's possible that Nick would've not had the courage to share his affection for Charlie. If somebody would've stepped in and made fun of Tara, of Tara and Darcy for kissing on the dance floor, the entire tone of the party and the entire tone of the events that could have come later, would've changed. And it would've been more about throwing a wrench in the plot of the story, rather than showing [00:16:00] us the beautiful innocence and the beautiful transformation of these fun relationships. It also could have discouraged Nick from being brave and exploring his feelings for Charlie one last cliche, and then we'll wrap it up. in episode three, Nick and Charlie have their kiss. and then Nick hears his friends calling out his name and because he's scared for whatever personal reasons. It doesn't really say what perhaps he was worried of them. Worried that they would walk in and find this and he wasn't ready for that. He immediately stands up and runs out of the room to go talk with them. And who knows how long they were actually talking So a cliche that was avoided in this situation was actually having somebody walk in or having somebody listen in or having somebody a fly on the wall. [00:17:00] Invade the privacy and the tender moment of these two boys sharing their, a admitting their affection for one another. And then that person holding it over their head as a form of black male. We've all seen that before. We've seen people kissing people and somebody seeing that who shouldn't have seen it and then holds it over their heads as a way to get what they wanted or as a way to ruin a reputation or just ruin something a way to exact revenge or a way to. Pull negative attention away from themselves or whatever that didn't happen here. And I believe that had it happened that way. It also would've ruined the plot of the story. That was not the point of this. That was not the PO like that stuff is not the point of heart stopper. It's not how heart stopper works. in many of the current teen romances that [00:18:00] involve gay characters. It seems that many of the gay characters are very sex forward. And so to admit your feelings for somebody automatically leads to sex in those stories, that didn't happen with heart stopper either. In fact, there's no sex in hot in heart stopper, at least not in season one. and that's nice. So the reason why we are talking about subverting tropes and subverting cliches is because hard stopper is all about exploring and inviting the viewer or the reader. If you are reading the comics, because you remember this is a Netflix adaptation of the comics that share the same name. It allows the viewer or the reader to witness this beautiful blooming, this beautiful blossoming of something new. when it does that, the, [00:19:00] the reader or the viewer gets to see this happen and it allows them to feel, and it allows them to experience. The honesty of these situations and the honesty of these emotions, the thing is subverting all of these tropes and all of these cliches allows the entire emotion of. Heart stopper to be 100% honest feeling. I mean, it's a work of fiction. None of this is real, but it allows it to feel authentic and because it feels authentic, there's something to learn about it. We get to see in Charlie, a person struggling and overcoming the effects of bullying and The hard times and the hard job that it is to overcome all of that and still remain happy. He still struggles with it throughout the thing. And he's not 100% arrived at being better. at the end of the first season, And spoiler alert. The effects of [00:20:00] bullying actually gave him an unhealthy relationship with food, which is set up throughout all of season one. All of this completely makes sense also with Nick with him just being a simple rugby player. Popular doing his best, but not living life in a very deep way. And coming to this awakening that he is bisexual, that he likes both men and women. And right now he really likes Charlie. And so he's going to pursue a relationship with Charlie and coming to the realization. Oh my goodness. I am different. and, oh my goodness. What does this actually mean? Keeping everything honest and authentic pulls the reader in. So a lot of times the little tricks that I mentioned that heart stopper avoided, we throw those things in as a way to build tension in the storyline so that people will continue reading. But the thing is one of the [00:21:00] biggest things that I have learned about writing is. That people continue to read because there is a reason to continue reading. They continue reading because they want to. So regardless of if it is tension, if it is a thick plot twist, or if it is the threat of blackmail or if it is a big mistake, because someone was drunk, sometimes it is more of a simple. Honest heartfelt thing that will keep a reader hooked and a watcher in this case, because this is a TV show too. It will keep someone hooked to continue witnessing what comes next. So with heart stopper, we are watching the gradual budding and blooming of this beautiful same sex relationship. Actually, a couple of them. [00:22:00] Tara and Darcy's relationship was a little bit further along the path. It started out further along the path at the beginning of heart stopper, but everything ends in a more beautiful place. And we see the very beginnings of a relationship between a trans girl and a straight boy. because this is only season one and there is already a huge cannon of comics. It, it makes us immediately want to go read all the comics. We do that because we know That unless we read more, unless we see more, unless we continue with all of this, we are not going to see the roses that are inevitably going to be at the end. So that's the thing, friends, these little tricks, the little trophy things, the little cliches. Sometimes they do succeed in building tension, but sometimes. like in the case of heart stopper, they can [00:23:00] really pull us away from a deeper, more beautiful and more simple form of storytelling. And it can prevent that from conveying a very beautiful message. So one of the biggest takeaways That has formulated in my mind is that all of this, the same sex relationships love can look any way that it wants to. And here is a beautiful example of how, and to be gay, a person can understand that they are gay from the very get go. there are still other people who don't know. If they're attracted to men, women, or whomever in between until they are given the chance to decide, just because in Nick's case, it's possible that he never considered it. He never considered what all of that looked like for him until. he was met with a boy who [00:24:00] peaked his interest and they became friends first before they became boyfriends. So that is the take home for today. If you are a writer or a creator of some form of content, where you have a lesson about a topic that is largely misunderstood. And it can be about anything Sometimes keeping the story simple. Is a way to keep it powerful so that's all I have for you today. I hope that you have had a wonderful pride month. This has. One of the biggest months, probably in my adult life that I will remember. And I love the reason we celebrate pride. I am going to be celebrating pride in a very big way from here on out. More than that, she says her words connect her to others, and the best part of putting a book in the world is the feedback she gets from readers who say that her story touched them in a deep and meaningful way. In the latest episode of the Make Meaning Podcast, host Lynne Golodner interviews Ly Tran about her memoir, House of Sticks, which took six years to write after landing a contract simply by the strength of her pages as presented to a professor. Ly came to America at the age of 3, a Vietnamese refugee who was a sweatshop worker as a child and spent a decade failing school as her vision deteriorated. Literature was her only refuge, holding books close to her face to commune with characters. The pronunciation of Trulicity® (dulaglutide) is the focus of this episode.  In my pronunciation episodes, I say a drug name, break it down into syllables, explain which syllable or syllable(s) have the emphasis, reveal the source(s) of the information, and put the written pronunciation in the show notes so that you see it and and use it right away. Having a colleague pick the drug name worked so well last month with Dr. Jennifer Marquez (May 2022) that I asked Allana Alexander, PharmD to pick the drug name for June 2022.  If you're interested in recommending the drug name for a future pronunciation episode on The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast, contact me through my website www.thepharmacistsvoice.com.  Just click on the “Contact” tab, and either fill out the form or leave me a voicemail message.  Thank you for listening to The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast Episode 155! Full Transcription:  Speaker 1 (00:00): Oh, holy cow. I don't know if you've missed me or not. Maybe you haven't, but I have not been here in a little while. I have not done any new episodes since January and today is the day that that is going to change because I know that moms out there, kids out there, we need digital guidance, digital roadmaps, digital safety. And so that's what my podcast is all about. And so I'm relaunching this today. We are getting back into things and I am back, stay tuned. Speaker 2 (00:32): Welcome to your source for tips, tools, and support to help you be that mom that is tuned in and proactive for yourself, your family, and for the wild ride of raising kids in this digital age, inspired by a mother's love with a relatable, real life. Proud to be that mom flare. This is the be that mom movement with your host Dolly Denson. Speaker 1 (00:57): Okay. It has been a minute since I have done any episodes and I have a reason for that. And I'm gonna explain a little bit of that for you, so you can understand where I have been and some of the lessons and all of that. And then I'm gonna talk today just briefly about where I'm going with the podcast. So you'll know what is up and what's next. So first off, I just wanna give you a little bit of a heads up that. Yes, I am still very much a promoter of the dumb smartphones that I mention over and over again. And I am very much a fan of bark still. They are all doing really well and helping kids and families so, so much. So if you are in need of some way to set up some boundaries for your kiddo and know what's going on, of course I recommend bark to help with that top notch, best option out there. Speaker 1 (01:50): If you're not in the United States and don't have that option, I do have some other things listed on my website and in the show notes. And then of course the dumb smartphone that are available all have perks to them. And it just depends on which one you prefer. The Tru me phone is one that I did in episode on believe it was toward the end of December, beginning of January, where I interviewed the CEO or the co-founder of Tru me. And then there's the pinwheel phone and the gab phone. And they all have features and options that are awesome and great, and definitely a step up from giving our kiddos access to the entire world through a unmonitored smartphone. So still highly recommend all of those things. I also have my be that mom method course like on the brink of coming out, but , I need to make a few tweaks. Speaker 1 (02:42): I was going through it last night and because I have had a delay with life getting in the way, like majorly over the last year, there's a few things I just need to update and I wanna make sure it is the most relevant thing that you can follow because it absolutely is made from my heart and is exactly what I wish I would've had back when I was like, I know I need to be doing something, but I don't know what this is, what this is gonna be for you. It is a roadmap, it has tools. It has resources. It is going to be a gift to you. Just like all of these other things that I mentioned on my podcast and give you discount codes for this is going to help you with navigating the things, help you with redirecting and pivoting when you need to. Speaker 1 (03:27): And all of that. So stay tuned for that. I promise it will come to life. I just, you know, I've said it before that when you have something amazing, you're trying to do some change. You're trying to make something you're trying to put out into the world that is going to make such an impact. It is no doubt that life and obstacles are gonna get in the way to try to stop that from happening. And that's my belief as to what keeps getting in the way to where I can't get that launched, but I promise you it is coming and it's going to be amazing. So stay tuned for it and share it with your friends as well, because it definitely is something that I have made and put so much work into to make sure it's exactly what you need when you give your kiddos phones and all of the things. Speaker 1 (04:09): Okay. So that being said, I wanna go back for a second. I wanna explain a few things that have happened in the last year that kind of got in the way of doing my podcast episodes and staying on my mission for helping you with all of the digital things and give you a bit of background on that. Also how those things have been somewhat of gifts to help me now, and then where we're going with the podcast, a few episodes I have coming up and all of that. Okay. So thank you so much for being here. Thank you for tuning in my podcast has still been ranking high in, in a couple of different countries. And a couple of the episodes are like off the charts with listens. So I know you're out there. I know you're listening. I know you need this stuff. And when I kept seeing that pop up in my email that it was ranking high, that certain episodes were getting a lot of listens. Speaker 1 (05:00): I was just like, oh, holy cow, I need to get this going again. But the truth is that when this is what I always say, like in my fit club and with the girls that I help with health coaching with fitness and nutrition stuff is a body in motion, stays in motion. A body at rest stays at rest. And that is so true when it comes to something like this. I have tried to record this I'm back episode. Multiple times kept having things get in the way the last time I came and sat down and I was like, okay, I'm going to do it. I could not find the adapter thing that I need to go from my microphone and my headphones to my laptop. And I looked everywhere and it was like, I only had this little bit of time to get this done. Speaker 1 (05:45): And my window of time closed because I couldn't find the darn adapter. It turns out it was laying on my desk, but my desk is a complete mess. And so it was covered up by some papers and it took me like a month after that to find it after I'd already ordered a new one. So anyways, I have tried to record it, but I will say that life got really, really hard for me in 2021 and coming into 2022. And it's one of those things that when everything was still moving and going, I could somehow put some of the hard parts of that to the side. Sorry, I have dinging going on here to the side and in not really deal with them, you know, not face them head on, I need to turn off my notifications here. So you're not here in my dinging. Speaker 1 (06:32): And so, and I can't figure out how to do that here. So anyways, I wanna tell you a couple things that happened for 2021. So, you know, I launched my podcast in, in March of 2020. I had weekly episodes from March of 2020, all the way to the first week of January of this year, I was going on two years, straight of weekly episodes, very passionate, very focused, but in 2021 life took a turn for me in a couple of ways. One was in my background as a nurse practitioner, I started noticing patterns of health conditions and people that got the thing, the thing that's being pushed around the world, pushed on everyone with the claims of safe and effective. If you do not see the reality of the thing that's happening with that, for some people I know while it could in overall be rare in the number of people that have gotten the thing compared to the number that are having adverse effects. Speaker 1 (07:27): If you have not seen that from your vantage point, I ask you, I plea with you to try to open up your heart and your mind to the fact that maybe your vantage point, hasn't given you this observation. But for me personally, I have observed heart wrenching and very concerning observations. I don't know if I just said that redundantly, but I worked with a population of people who were older typically like in their fifties, up until their nineties. And they were the age group that was pushed to get it from the very beginning. Yes, go get it. You're gonna be able to get your life back, go out there and get it. You need to get it right away so you can be safe and you can save your life. Well, what I started to see in this age group was a pattern of certain things happening, all kind of subtle, well, not all subtle. Speaker 1 (08:17): Some of some people had strokes, heart attacks developed AFib. One lady had three brothers, all die of heart attacks within a week of getting their second thing. And so there were more dramatic ones that didn't seem as, as deniable, but other things, more subtle memory issues, a weird anemia that kind of has the same pattern regardless of who the person is and how it develops and what things they do to, uh, detect it and figure out what the cause is. Can't find a cause, put them on iron, that type of thing. So I started seeing these patterns of different things at the same time that I was not getting the thing at first, because I had just had COVID. I am someone who comes from a background of vaccinating. All of my children, I got a flu shot every single year. I had no reason to distrust the whole agenda of everybody getting a vaccine, because it's what we do and it's to keep the world safe, but I could not deny what was happening and what I was seeing in this population of of a hundred percent getting the thing. Speaker 1 (09:22): And this did not align with what I was supposed to do with my job. And therefore, one of the things that happened in 2021 is that I was terminated from my job because I would not get the thing that I'm seeing a bunch of people harmed from. And I apologize if that is disconcerting to you, if you were of the mindset, that it is safe and effective for everyone. And that we have nothing to be concerned about. Maybe that people like me that don't wanna get it or selfish or ignorant or anything like that. But I assure you where I come from is a place of examining all sides. And I did not want to be in this place. I did not want to lose a job I had had for eight years and was the best company I ever worked for, but I could not deny what I was seeing and the people that are being harmed by it. Speaker 1 (10:09): So I ask if you are of the mindset that I'm in the wrong, I ask for you to give a little bit of grace, give a little bit of understanding, take a step back and try to understand that someone else might see it differently because they have a different vantage point. I've had friends and family deny my vantage point. I've had friends and family block me, unfriend me, completely vanish from anything that I can connect with them on because they don't understand my vantage point. But let me tell you, it's the most hurtful thing in the world to have worked in this industry for as long as I have, and to suddenly see things differently because I wasn't afraid to ask questions because I wasn't afraid to say when in the world, why are so many people coming up with these same issues? Why is this same pattern happening over and over again? Speaker 1 (11:03): Why is it that I go to work? And it's like Groundhog day when they tell me about a weird anemia that started, and it started a couple weeks after the second thing that they got and that they can't find anything, you know, it's the same. It was the same scenario over and over again. I don't know how other nurse practitioners and clinicians out there are not seeing this or not speaking up. I don't know how that is possible because it is blatantly obvious to me. And so if you were of the mindset that you do not understand this, I just ask that you try to dig into your heart and your mind and open it a little bit. And let's get back to the police of collaboration of conversation and of realizing that we as one person in this world may not know everything. And unless we are in the same position as the person that has that viewpoint, we do not get to have an authoritative stance on what they're saying. Speaker 1 (11:59): I hope that makes sense. this episode has been something that I have like gone over and over in my mind, whether or not I would share this part of it, but it is me. And it is a part of what has happened over the past year. And I, as a healthcare provider, cannot stand here and say that these things are safe and effective. 100%, there's too many unknowns. And there are too many reasons for us to be concerned for me to say, blanket, this is what it is. Okay. So that is one thing that happened over the past year is that I was terminated from my job for making observations, for being a healthcare provider with due diligence and with wanting to simply decide for myself what was best for me. And all of that being said, the majority of the people that I have seen that are getting the thing, not the, the pokey thing, but the infection are the ones that have had the pokey thing. Speaker 1 (12:58): And so it is just undeniable to me that I don't know what the agenda is here, but it's certainly not the ones that we were used to before 2020, when we actually did things for the, the sake of the patient, the decision was always theirs. We gave them informed consent. And at the end of the day, whether they denied the treatment or accepted it, it was still their decision. I don't know how we got to a point to where that is not okay, but that's where I still am because I was trained in evidence. I was trained in due diligence and I was trained in informed consent. So I think that's all I'm gonna say in regard to that, the next thing I wanna share is that I told you back in August, that my brother had suddenly and tragically died. My little brother, I have two brothers and we've come to put some pieces together to where it appears that it may have been, his death may have been intentional, that it may have been suicide. Speaker 1 (13:55): There's no way for us to know 100% without a doubt, but just putting the pieces together of how everything played out. That's what me and my siblings believe happened. And so my point of sharing all of this with you is because in December things really came to a head for me when we realized that along with being terminated from my job. And it's kind of like one of those things where when you have a, a safe, a piece, a sense of safety, when you have security and safety, even when things were kind of difficult, you can keep going. And it was in that time where I really felt like the bottom fell out of my life and everything just really seemed really hard and a lot to deal with. And so what I did at that time was I took, I decided to take a couple weeks away from the podcast and from the other things that I did, I took a trip to Alaska and my sister lives in Alaska. Speaker 1 (14:52): And so I went to visit her in the wintertime. I'd never been to Alaska in the winter. So it was just, you know, something that I wanted to do and just to take some time away. And I took that time and it was the most amazing trip, just spending time with her. I was only there for five days. It wasn't long enough at all for the amount of travel time it took to get from where I live to where she is, but we had the most amazing experience together. And we felt the presence of our brother there with us. And like I've told you in regards to my podcast and how it all came to be. I think that there's gifts in life's struggles, in life's challenges, in life's obstacles. And I have found so many gifts in this struggle, and that is why I wanted to share the real and the raw of what has happened for me. Speaker 1 (15:41): And why I've been absent is because I know that every single one of you that has a child that you are contemplating or have given a smartphone, a digital device, some kind of contact digitally, and you've noticed that there's an influence and you're trying to figure out how to navigate it. And there's so much gray space. There's so much like, you know, like, I don't know what to do. I don't wanna be the mean mom, the bad mom that mom, I want them to be happy. I want them to be able to do things. They're always mad at me. You know, all of those things, it's hard, it's hard right in that space. It's hard. And my kids now are 17, 19 and 23. I've walked this space and I have . I was of the generation of parents that it all emerged while my kids were in those middle school years, and the impact was astronomical. Speaker 1 (16:38): And so the reason that I share this is because I walked all of that, but I found a gift in it. I found the gift in it that I could pay it forward to you on this platform. And so I share about my path in 2021, seeing what I did in the clinical world, along with the loss of my brother, who we had no idea he was struggling. And so this is gonna be a topic of some of a podcast going forward. And it's definitely gonna be something I'm gonna dive deeper into because I think this is the gift in what we have gone through is that we had no idea he was struggling and it's taken a lot to face that he could take his life and that we didn't know. And so I want you to know that there's gifts in your struggle, and there's also whispers or God winks that are giving you hints of what to do. Speaker 1 (17:37): Next. You are here listening to this because it is not an accident. And because there's an intuition, there's a nagging in you. That is saying you need to do more, that you need to offer more guidance. And I want you to know that me talking it's about such a raw thing of losing my brother and us, not knowing, and I'm sorry for the sniffling and all of the noises in this episode, but us not knowing that he was going through the struggles he was. I want to use that pain to help you to talk to your children right now, we are going through such a hard period in this world. No matter where you are, the censorship is unreal out there. The influence, the things that are being pushed on us, the mindset what's true. What's not what we're supposed to believe. What we're not supposed to believe. Speaker 1 (18:27): What things are put out to divide us. This is intentional. It's an, and I think it's an attack on our children. And so I want you, if you take anything from this episode today is to talk to your children like point blank, let them know how much they're loved. Let them know that no matter how hard something seems or how deep they feel like they are into something that you are always their safe place to land and that no matter what they are valued, and they will be missed. We miss Tony so much. And he had a son that he left behind, and it's so hard for us to fathom how he could have been struggling. So very hard that he could leave him by choice. But I know when someone gets in that dark space in that place, that sometimes they feel like the world would be better off if they're not here or the struggles seem too hard. Speaker 1 (19:28): So please, if anything, from this episode, I want you to take this opportunity to talk to your children, talk to them about the things that are hard right now. Talk to them about the things that are bothering them. Talk about the things that are being pushed on them in their beliefs, and then make sure you are keeping some type of monitoring on what they are consuming. If they are on tech talk, if they're on Instagram, if they're on Snapchat and you are not in some way monitoring what they are consuming there, I promise you they're being influenced. And they are being, you know, pushed into certain mindsets, certain beliefs, conditioning that certain things are okay. And that may not be exactly what you want them to be believing and moving towards. So that was my major mission for this episode. And it's been really hard for me to sit down and record this. Speaker 1 (20:26): And I know I may have turned some people off and I know this is all stuff that is really controversial, but everything that I share and everything that I do is the point of it is to share the gift in it. And if I can help at least one person to not be in that dark space, then that has helped me in finding some purpose in the pain around all of we have been through with the loss of my brother. And like I said, we can't say for certain 100% that it was not an accident, but everything points to the fact that it, it was not an accident. And so I hope if my brother is listening and I have this wrong that somehow he will let us know that it was an accident. But like I said, it doesn't seem like that was the case. Speaker 1 (21:16): So thank you so much for listening today. I don't even know if I hit all of my points on my little outline that I had made before I started recording, but I feel like what I shared is what I wanted to share. And so I hope it helps you talk to your kids and please have some guidance around the digital things. My roadmap is coming, the course that I'm making. And then the other things that I have coming up are I have a couple interviews lined up that are gonna be topics such as like helping, uh, kids with college debt and how to have a plan around that. Someone else reached out to me that talks a lot about self- esteem for girls. And then my best friend, she has twins and she is trying out the pinwheel phone and the Tru me phone with her twins each has a different phone so that she can compare all the aspects of that. Speaker 1 (22:09): And I may even bring her girls on an episode so they can share their perspective of using the dumb smartphone and how it's helped it help them, their frustrations around it, those type of things. So those are a few things that I have coming up. I hope you'll continue to listen. And if you have any questions about anything I've shared today, please reach out to me. And I hope that there's an understanding there. If you aren't understanding my viewpoint, if you could open your mind and your heart for that, because it's hard for me to share this because I know how much I've been kind of gaslighted. I don't know if that's the right word, but there have been quite a few people who don't understand my viewpoint. And it's so hurtful for me when a lot of them don't work in any type of healthcare, how they can't consider my viewpoint. I don't make things up. And I was never an anti-vaxer or anything like that before this all started. I'm still not, it's still up to you, but I make the personal decision for myself. And I don't think I owe anyone an explanation of that. And shouldn't be forced to get something that I know is not effective, um, that has tons of unknowns and all of that. Okay. So thanks so much for listening, chat with you next time. Speaker 2 (23:26): Thanks for tuning in being that mom isn't easy, but together we can be that mom strong. Don't forget to leave a review, connect on social and join Dolly's free community till next time.
