Read transcriptSome magical girl stories are content with sparkly transformations and heartfelt speeches. This is not one of those stories. This time on Play Comics we're warping through the glitter-strewn chaos of Sailor Moon: Another Story, the Super Famicom RPG that took the 90s manga and anime vibes, mashed them with branching timelines and turn-based redemption arcs, and asked, “What if destiny needed a save state?” It's console combat where emotional baggage weighs more than your inventory, and every villain monologue comes with a friendship discount. Chris isn't battling cosmic paradoxes solo though. Cass Proffitt from Distant Echoes jumps into the senshi squad to help unpack how this game balances moon crystal lore with JRPG grind, and whether it's a radiant tribute to Sailor Moon or just the sparkliest timeline meltdown in gaming history. Together they're digging into what survived the trip from Naoko Takeuchi's pages to console controllers, complete with overdramatic plot twists and Jupiter's undefeated punch stat. Dust off your brooch, queue the theme song, and prepare for senshi squad analysis laced with villain rehab debates and moon prism power-ups that hit different on pixelated screens. Learn such things as: Why Another Story might actually be canon. Sort of. Maybe. How localization shaped the Western Sailor Moon fandom. What the point of it all is if you don't even have a cat to help guide you along the way. And so much more! You can find Cass on their podcast Distant Echoes. If you want to be a guest on the show please check out the Be a A Guest on the Show page and let me know what you're interested in. You can read the full thoughts from CountZeroOr here: Why we never got them? Well, I'd probably say it's a combination of a couple factors: First, for much of the 16-bit console generation (and the 8-bit console generation before that), there was still a very considerable anti-Japan bias in terms of marketing of console games, based on the idea that American audiences wouldn't buy anything actively presented as being Japanese, so Anime presentations were out (this is part of the reason why the first Ranma 1/2 fighting game was changed into “Street Combat”) – the Golgo 13 games were viewed as something of an outlier. While some later titles in the 90s would take chances on presenting themselves as being more anime (i.e. Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle), they were also titles for properties generally marketed to guys, as also around this time video game marketing was increasingly getting more gendered, something that would continue throughout the 90s and into the 2000s and beyond. As a property targeted for girls, Sailor Moon didn't fit in the gender essentialist marketing plans of the video game industry. The fact that, since it's a RPG, it also has a ton of text to localize and translate (versus to the Sailor Moon beat-em-ups), certainly didn't help. The next episode is going to be Uncanny X-Men. That's right, we're taking another look at the NES game. What are your experiences with this one? If they remade it today what characters would you want included that weren't in the original? Coinsilium Group Limited (AQSE:COIN, OTCQB:CINGF, FRA:5CT) CEO Eddy Travia and CFO Ben Proffitt talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest strategic update, expansion into prediction markets, the upcoming Yellow Network token listing, and its current financial position. Proffitt explained that Coinsilium is “not a pure play Bitcoin treasury company,” reinforcing that the company's core business remains its accelerator and venture development model. While the Bitcoin treasury function provides financial strength, the focus is on actively creating shareholder value rather than waiting for Bitcoin price appreciation. As he stated, the goal is not to “just sit around and wait for the price of Bitcoin to increase,” but to leverage the company's expertise, venture portfolio and strategic assets to generate growth. Travia outlined the company's expansion into prediction markets, describing the sector as a fast-growing and natural extension of its digital asset focus. He highlighted the role of blockchain technology in providing transparency and tokenisation within platforms such as Polymarket, and confirmed Coinsilium is in negotiations to acquire a significant stake in a venture within the space. The interview also covered the upcoming Yellow Network token listing event scheduled for March 8. Travia described Yellow as a decentralised clearing network focused on reducing counterparty risk and improving liquidity across trading venues through off-chain order matching and on-chain smart clearing. Proffitt added that, following last year's £17 million equity raise and Bitcoin accumulation, the company has “well over a year of runway” with no near or medium-term funding requirements. Southern Oregon artist Crystal Proffitt has always had a connection to hair. As a dancer, she grew comfortable styling her own hair for performances, and later worked as a professional hairstylist. But she’s also had strangers approach her to touch or tug her curls unsolicited, an experience she says isn’t uncommon for people of color. Proffitt channeled those experiences and others into the art installation “Don’t Touch My Hair: An Interactive Crowned Experience.” It features portraits of local models accompanied by audio descriptions of their own experiences with their hair. The installation will be on display at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center in Medford through Feb. 27. Proffitt joins us to talk more about the installation and the ways hair can convey beauty, culture, memory and identity.

Read transcriptDust off your cowabunga collection and prepare your fists for some serious turtle-powered mayhem, because this week on Play Comics we're diving shell-first into TMNT: Mutant Melee, the 2005 arena-based fighting bonanza that took the 2003 animated series and asked the most important question: what if we just got all the turtles, their friends, AND their enemies into one room and let them beat the absolute snot out of each other? Developed by Konami for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, this isn't your typical one-on-one fighter—it's more like if Smash Bros and Power Stone had a shell-covered baby and that baby knew all of Splinter's teachings. Joining us for this body-slamming brawl is the incomparable Tommy Proffitt from Distant Echoes and Lee Carvallo's Podding Challenge, a podcast wizard who understands the intricate art of dissecting character-based chaos and canon coherence like few others can. Plus being able to bring his signature blend of gaming nostalgia and comedic precision to help us determine if this colorful chaos simulator managed to capture the spirit of its source material or if it swung its nunchucks at empty air. Together, we'll navigate the treacherous waters of Last Man Standing mode, contemplate why anyone thought having 22 playable characters was a good idea, and investigate whether the game's holiday-themed cosmetics (seriously—set the date to December 25th and watch the turtles rock Santa hats) are feature or bug. Learn such things as: What does it say about a game when its best feature might legitimately be the ability to unlock the original arcade game inside it? What's the difference between a party fighter and a fighting game that doesn't know what it wants to be? Can the 2003 cartoon's tone can survive being translated into “everyone fights everyone all the time? And so much more!
