There is absolutely no stopping Kenny McReynolds. He will not quit. The Chicago sportscasting legend has had 45 operations, numerous bouts with cancer, and even died (according to Kenny) and was brought back to life in 2017. He shares with Jeanne what drives him to never give up, the song he plays each morning to celebrate the day ahead; why he's always giving back; why he will never forgive former President Jimmy Carter for boycotting the Olympic Games in 1980; and the words of wisdom he learned from Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton. About Kenny He's a multiple award-winning sportscaster, known for doing one-on-one interviews with the biggest names in sports, entertainment and politics. They include Michael Jordan, Andre Dawson, former President Barack Obama, Carl Weathers, and the last three mayors of Chicago: Richard M. Daley, Rahm Emanuel, and Lori Lightfoot. He started working in broadcasting in 1979 at WVON and WBMX radio. He's currently the sports director at WCIU-TV and hosts “Sports Edition.” He's won five Emmys, and was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, CPS Basketball Hall of Fame, and the State of Illinois Hall of Fame. I've long been obsessed with 80s music and especially have a sweet spot for the era around my birth year of 1982. As well as listening back to the old recordings from clubs, like the Muzic Box, Power Plant and Warehouse in Chicago, I have always especially loved the Hot Mix 5 shows on Chicago radio station WBMX. Starting in 1981 the shows ran alongside the advent and development of house music and saw the DJs develop a high-energy style of playing short sections and edits of club hits of the day. They'd create hour-long mixes on reel-to-reel and deliver them to the station and these mixes became famous throughout the world. So here I present three, hour-long mixes and set the year as 1984. So it is a collection of pre and proto-house. 1984 was when the first true Chicago house productions began to be released. These are tracks that influenced the formation of house and were important in the clubs and on the radio in Chicago in these formative years. 62 tracks over 180 minutes that took me 6 weeks to edit and 38 years to find and collect. I've tagged every track with some notes in the comments because when the show was live I was already getting ID requests and when I tried to make a Spotify playlist for a friend using some of these tunes a load of them didn't show up so I guess Shazam might have a few problems also. Plus it's fun to tell some stories of the records and add context and make connections for those of us who aren't super nerds.

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ DJ SNEAK SPECIAL SHOW 2021 #001 - PART 2 DJ Sneak (born Carlos Sosa; November 5, 1969) is a Puerto Rican born American DJ and record producer raised in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is noted as being one of the second wave of Chicago house producers, (alongside Derrick Carter, Cajmere/Green Velvet, Gemini, James Curd and Paul Johnson) as well as a member of the vanguard of late-1990s United States house producers. In 1983, Sneak moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico, where his early musical experiences and influences were rooted in salsa, merengue and Latin orchestras. In Chicago, Sneak found inspiration in underground house music, warehouse parties and "old school" mix tapes from the early pioneers, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Ralphi Rosario, Steve Hurley and local radio station shows played on WBMX. Sneak earned his nickname rocking graffiti-tags and began working at retail stores as an airbrush artist. His development as a DJ came while working regular mobile DJ jobs and local nightclubs. Sneak focused on his music production and started his independent label - Defiant Records. In 1994, while still working at local store Gramophone Records, Sneak met Cajmere (Green Velvet) owner of Cajual and Relief Records. Cajmere released three of Sneak's catalyst tracks, which helped bring him international recognition. In Ibiza, Sneak has participated in several events with Ministry of Sound, Cream, Manumission, and Miss Moneypenny's. Sneak currently resides in Los Angeles, California, US. Lyrics by DJ Sneak are featured in the Daft Punk song, "Digital Love", from their 2001 album, Discovery. In 2001, Sneak launched a new record label Magnetic Recordings, where he has been releasing new music, with compilations to come, along with the introduction of new musical talent. Source: Wikipedia

Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords Mark Grusane on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/markgrusaneofficial @mark-grusane 1st it’s the People, 2nd it’s the Atmosphere, 3rd it’s the Music, and lastly it’s Presentation. Mark Grusane is a favorite among crowds with eclectic musical taste that party long and hard. Former co-owner of Mr Peabody Records in Chicago, DJ Mark Grusane has a strong history and knowledge of DJing and Dancefloor culture while being an important go-to-guy for selections amongst a vast pool of international DJ's, Compilers, and Record Labels. Just a little research will instantly show you his influence on DJ Culture, Record Collecting & Digging. Growing up in Chicago during the early 80’s, Mark - with the help of his older brother - started collecting records and DJing from his pre-teens. During high school he listened to WBMX radio mixes and was producing house tracks inside empty classrooms with his friends during lunch period. By the time Mark was a young adult having music everyone knew and liked was not good enough anymore and so he entered the endless world of searching and seeking music he had yet to discover and his music habits soon reached a level deemed as obsessive. To balance his spending habit, he found himself selling music to older peers, stores and DJs in order to afford more records for himself. This finally lead him into founding Mr. Peabody Records with Mike Cole a fellow fanatic, in 2004, aiming to become a world class resource for all genres of obscure music and indeed Mr Peabody Records became a destination point for many DJ's and Music Lovers. Sadly, the brick and mortar store closed shop in 2012. However we’re lucky Mark still collects and continues to play music to dancers and clubbers around the world. His style is derived from his unique persona, many years of collecting dance music and knowing how to move people with it. Although totally capable, Mark isn't your typical cookie cutter style DJ. He has his own signature way of presenting records with a focus to play quality, obscure, heart pounding, "Make You Get Up And Move” music.
