    I have been making stargazing and space themed mixes for a long time. But I realized that I haven't posted a straightforward stargazing mix for almost two years. So this mix fixes that. All the tracks are fairly new, with half of them being from this year. Some tracks are from low light mixes regulars like Loscil, Loneward and Hipnotic Earth alongside new discoveries like RIKAAR, Tone Color and Audio Obscura. Esta semana, en el episodio final de la temporada 2020-2021 de Rebelión Sónica, los invitamos a escuchar música de álbumes 2020 de dos exponentes fundamentales de la electrónica contemporánea: “Lamentations” del estadounidense William Basinski y “Xerrox Vol. 4” del alemán Alva Noto. “Lamentations” fue editado por el sello Temporary Residence el 13 de noviembre de 2020 y, de acuerdo a los datos entregados por la disquera, el álbum de 12 pistas, sucesor de “On Time Out Of Time” de 2019, está construido por archivos sonoros que el creador ha ido reuniendo en los últimos 40 años, específicamente desde 1979. El comunicado agrega que dichas cintas “están moldeadas por el paso inevitable del tiempo y el colapso indiscutible del espacio, y su resonancia colectiva es infinita y eterna”. La declaración también señala que “la reputación de Basinski como productor de meditaciones profundas sobre la muerte y la decadencia se ha establecido desde hace mucho tiempo, pero en su nuevo álbum, transforma la tragedia operística en una belleza abismal”. Por su parte, “Xerrox Vol. 4” de fue editado por el sello Noton el 16 de junio de 2020 y es el cuarto volumen de cinco contemplados para la serie “Xerrox”, que se ha desarrollado con “Xerrox Vol. 1” (2007), “Xerrox Vol. 2” (2009) y “Xerrox Vol. 3” (2015). De acuerdo a la información de Noton, “utilizando el proceso de copia como base, la serie Xerrox se ocupa de la manipulación de datos por medio de una reproducción sin fin. Los sonidos cotidianos se alteran tanto que apenas pueden asociarse con el material de origen. Como resultado, se crean sonidos completamente nuevos: las copias de los originales se convierten en originales (…) A diferencia de los álbumes anteriores de “Xerrox”, cuyo punto de partida es un conjunto de muestras extraídas de fuentes externas y fragmentos de grabaciones, en “Vol. 4” encontramos paisajes sonoros cinematográficos, acordes cálidos, ambientes digitales vibrantes, electrónica liquida y drones”. Finalmente, retrocedemos a 2019, para escuchar a Alva Noto junto a su colaborador de largos años, el inmenso compositor japonés Ryuichi Sakamoto, para escucharlos con material del disco en vivo “TWO (Live at Sydney Opera House)”. Recordemos que, lamentablemente, la semana pasada el fundador de Yellow Magic Orchestra, informó que fue diagnosticado con cáncer por segunda vez. Rebelión Sónica, que hace un receso en febrero para volver con la temporada 2021-2022 en marzo, se transmite por radio Rockaxis todos los miércoles a las 10, 17 y 23 horas -se repite los domingos a las 19-, con la conducción de Héctor Aravena. *William Basinski en la foto principal.

Carsten Nicolai, besser bekannt auch als Alva Noto, ist ein international gefeierter Musiker, Produzent, Bildender Künstler, Labelbetreiber und nicht zuletzt Professor an der Hochschule in Dresden. Gerade erschienen ist sein neues Album „Xerrox Vol. 4“. Über diese spannende Veröffentlichungsreihe, Diamond Version, anbb (Projekt mit Blixa Bargeld), seinen „A Forest“ The Cure- Remix und nicht zuletzt seine Zusammenarbeit mit Ryuichi Sakamoto spricht Olaf Zimmermann in diesem „elektro beats“-Interviewspecial mit Carsten Nicolai.
