The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the one-hundredth-and-thirty-sixth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by LTC Trevor Jones, the Battalion Commander of 1-509th IN (OPFOR) on behalf of the Commander of Operations Group. Today's guests are members of JRTC's infamous Opposing Force, Team Geronimo: CPT Jeremiah Cox, 1SG Terence Newby, and SFC Walter Jinks. CPT Cox is the Company Commander for Able Company, 1-509th IN. 1SG Newby is the First Sergeant for Easy Company, 1-509th IN. SFC Jinks is the Engineer Platoon Sergeant within Easy Company.   This episode explores how the JRTC Opposing Force—Geronimo—is evolving its tactics through what the unit calls “new forms of mass.” Rather than relying solely on traditional concentrations of combat power, the discussion highlights how OPFOR is integrating robotics, unmanned systems, electronic warfare, and precision effects to generate combat mass across multiple domains. Leaders describe how small multi-purpose equipment transports (SMETs), unmanned aerial systems, and remotely operated platforms are being used to conduct breaching operations, deliver precision fires, transport sustainment, and even serve as deception or targeting tools. These systems allow Geronimo to make first contact with machines rather than soldiers, reducing risk to personnel while increasing tempo and battlefield confusion for rotational units.    The conversation also focuses on how these technologies enable new ways of synchronizing effects during offensive and defensive operations. Examples include integrating electronic warfare and drone strikes into the suppress phase of a breach, using unmanned systems to obscure and reduce obstacles, and deploying robotic platforms armed with crew-served weapons to support maneuver. In the defense, robotic systems are used to extend screening operations, attrit enemy forces forward of the main battle position, and provide early warning. The episode concludes by discussing challenges such as maintenance, connectivity, and data transport while emphasizing that the future battlefield will require every soldier to understand and employ unmanned systems. Ultimately, Geronimo's experimentation is designed to force rotational units to confront a modernized threat capable of creating mass through distributed sensors, robotics, and precision effects across the battlespace.    Part of S11 “Conversations with the Enemy” series.   For additional information and insights from this episode, please check-out our Instagram page @the_jrtc_crucible_podcast.   Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest warfighting TTPs learned through the crucible that is the Joint Readiness Training Center.   Follow us by going to: https://linktr.ee/jrtc and then selecting your preferred podcast format.   Again, we'd like to thank our guests for participating. What does it mean to think communism philosophically, and how can a political rupture be understood as an ontological transformation of the conditions of everyday life? Embracing the Mixed Ecology: Dwight Zscheile and Blair Pogue on the Church's Future

What if the future of the church isn't found in choosing between old and new—but in learning how both can flourish together? In this episode, Loren is joined by Dwight Zscheile and Blair Pogue for a wide-ranging conversation about their book, Embracing the Mixed Ecology, and what it means to form Christian communities in a changing world. Drawing on their experience in congregational leadership, theological education, and diocesan innovation, Dwight and Blair make the case for a mixed ecology of church—where inherited congregations, new communities, fresh expressions, digital ministry, and lay-led initiatives work together to embody the gospel. Rather than dismissing institutions or chasing quick fixes, the conversation emphasizes discipleship, listening to neighbors, and adapting church forms without abandoning the substance of the faith. The episode also explores why activism alone cannot sustain Christian identity, how polarization distorts formation, and why the church must recover practices that shape people into a distinct way of life centered on Jesus.   Topics Include What a “mixed ecology” of church actually means Why inherited churches still matter—and where they fall short Fresh expressions, microchurches, and lay-led ministry Discipleship vs. political or cultural substitutes for faith Listening as the starting point for mission Digital ministry as doorway, not replacement When and how churches may need to end faithfully The Rev. Dwight Zscheile, Ph.D. is professor of congregational mission and leadership at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is author of Embracing the Mixed Ecology: Inherited and New Forms of Christian Community Flourishing Together (with Blair Pogue, Seabury Books 2025), Leading Faithful Innovation: Following God into a Hopeful Future (with Michael Binder and Tessa Pinkstaff, Fortress, 2023), Participating in God's Mission: A Theological Missiology for the Church in America (with Craig Van Gelder, Eerdmans, 2018), The Agile Church: Spirit-Led Innovation in an Uncertain Age (Morehouse Publishing, 2014), People of the Way: Renewing Episcopal Identity (Morehouse Publishing, 2012) and The Missional Church in Perspective: Mapping Trends and Shaping the Conversation (with Craig Van Gelder, Baker Academic 2011), editor of Cultivating Sent Communities: Missional Spiritual Formation (Eerdmans, 2012) and co-editor (with Ed Olsworth-Peter) of The Starter's Way: Leading New Contextual Christian Communities (Church Publishing, 2025). A graduate of Stanford University (BA), Yale University (MDiv) and Luther Seminary (PhD, Congregational Mission and Leadership), he has served congregations in Minnesota and Virginia. Dwight's experience growing up in a secular home in California has shaped his commitment to helping the church cultivate Christian community with neighbors in today's changing world. The Rev. Canon Blair Pogue is the Canon for Innovation for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. In that capacity she helps congregations all over the state go deeper in their practice of the Christian faith and rethink how they form disciples and engage the communities surrounding their church. She also runs learning communities for Episcopalians wanting to learn how to form Christian community with neighbors where they live, work, and play. Before joining Bishop Craig Loya's staff she was the rector of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in St. Paul for 16 ½ years, and before that she served two churches in the Diocese of Virginia, with a special focus on Christian formation. She is a graduate of Luther Seminary (D.Min in Congregational Mission and Leadership), Yale Divinity School (M.Div), and Whitman College (B.A.).   Mentioned Resources:

Young people are often portrayed as politically disengaged, accused of turning their backs on voting and traditional politics. But is that really the full story? Recent waves of youth-led mobilisations—from climate marches to social justice movements—suggest something very different. So, how do we explain this apparent paradox? Are young people truly stepping away from politics, or are they reinventing it? In this episode, we'll explore what youth engagement looks like today: from the role of young voters in the United States to the issues driving activism across the Global South. We'll also ask whether new forms of participation—both online and offline—signal a global movement or remain rooted in local priorities. And now that COP 30 has wrapped up, we'll reflect on the lessons from years of youth-led climate activism: have they managed to influence policy or shift mindsets? Our guest today is Dr. Laura Bullon-Cassis, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute's Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy.

Germany is home to nearly a million Black people today, yet their history has often been erased from public memory. In this episode, we uncover the lives of Benedikt Gambé and Charlotte Rettig, two Black artists who lived in Berlin under Nazi rule. He detained and dead by 1940, she fleeing to Copenhagen and surviving. Their stories reveal how race shaped everyday life in Nazi Germany, how Black people were marginalized, and why their persecution has remained largely invisible. With Robbie Aitken and Tiffany Florvil, we explore Black presence in Germany from colonial times to the Nazi era, the cycles of forgetting that followed, and the echoes of racism and erasure in Germany today. It's 3am, the club is full to its brim, both in energy and in bodies. The air is ripe with a palpable tension, there needs to be a spark to ignite the night remaining. Enter OTON, and a return to Alliance with his sequel to ‘New Forms of Silence'. Minimal is that match stick, instantaneously converting friction to heat, and laying the groundwork for what is to come. Akin to a drum machine workout, the tracks are devoid of fluff, and focus on the essentials. Winding melodies and a tight percussion line keep things moving while ramping the energy, higher and higher. We'd be remiss, in not mentioning the rest of the album though, OTON showcases his taste as ideas coalesce through a variety of other genres, all tastefully done. Brussels-based Alliance Club was first introduced to the scene about 5 years ago, as a platform for founder OTON's own releases. It has since gone through a natural evolution, welcoming releases from other artists, and ultimately morphing into a collective and party series within the vibrant Brussels community. With residencies at a variety of Belgium's clubs and festivals as well as on local radio station microwave, Alliance has nicely established its place in the scene over the past few years. This year, OTON presents his music in the form of an audiovisual live set in collaboration with a visual artist Onohno, something to experience if the opportunity presents itself. New Forms of Silence 2, will be released on the 26th of September. @oton Write up by @huedj Follow us on social media: @itsdelayed linktr.ee/delayed www.delayed.nyc www.facebook.com/itsdelayed www.instagram.com/_____delayed www.youtube.com/@_____delayed Contact us: info@delayed.nyc

My guest is Stefan Thurner, A Professor of theoretical physics, and the President of the Complexity Science Hub in Vienna. Stefan has published over 240 scientific articles and he was elected Austrian Scientist of the Year 2017. He is also an external professor at the Santa Fe Institute. In our conversation, we first delve into the scaling laws of everything. We explore social, financial, biological, and economic dynamics—for example, how to make the economy more resilient by targeting some unique companies, how social bubbles form, the strength of networks of friends and foes in social contexts, and how the methodology of physics can help us understand other fields, etc. I hope you enjoy our discussion. Think about your closest friends. Have you ever felt yourself saying, maybe I just don't know them anymore? Or, why is it so hard for us to get together? Here's a question I'm posing for today's episode: instead of trying to maintain friendships at their “peaks,” what if we allowed these friendships to breathe in their new forms?Today's guest is Joseph Suttner, who I met a year ago while on New Day Northwest, a morning TV show here in Seattle. In this episode, Joseph and I talk in-depth about the Wheel of Connection, particularly historic vs. present friendships.Sometimes it can be sad to admit our historic (and sometimes closest) friendships are no longer at their peaks due to life's circumstances. But if there's one constant in life, it's change, and I think listeners will walk away from today's episode with new appreciation and perspective of these relationships. In this episode you'll hear about:Historic friends, defined friends, formal communities, and more in my Wheel of Connection frameworkThe guilt and shame created by friendships that can't be maintained at their peaks due to the realities of adulthood – and how to appreciate what's there insteadSelf-awareness about your approachability if you're trying to expand your connections (i.e., are you wearing sunglasses or headphones while out walking?)Activities together vs. drinks or coffee – one of these feels like less pressure if you're meeting up with a new friendResources & Links:Learn about my Wheel of Connection framework!Like what you hear?
