I am joined by Kate Allatt to discuss her experience of, and advocacy for, locked-in state as she narrated in her book Running Free: Breaking out of Locked in Syndrome.Kate has an extraordinary journey of resilience after being ‘buried alive', the result of a brainstem stroke when she was just 39. She described this as a condition where you can feel, think, hear and see completely normally but are unable to move a single muscle. She explored the transformation from being an active and passionate runner to being helpless and requiring help for every need.Kate chronicled the onset of her symptoms with a headache and slurred speech, and the subsequent progression of her symptoms with loss of consciousness that culminated in being completely locked-in. She also recalled the thoughts and emotions that dominated her mind in the subsequent stages of her illness. Our conversation also covered such concepts as the pessimism that permeates the attitude to the care of people in locked-in, the potential for completely recovery even the most extreme cases, the role of intense rehabilitation and determination in recovering from locked-in state, and the concept of neuroplasticity. She particularly highlighted how she brought her passionate attitude to running to her rehabilitation.Kate is an inspirational speaker and will also discuss the impact her advocacy and peer mentoring has made to thousands of families around the world. Running Free has been showcased on BBC Jeremy Vine, ITV This Morning, BBC Breakfast, The One Show, Women's Hour, Newsnight, Loose Women, BBC Worldwide, India, South Africa, USA, South America etc. In addition, she founded a charity just three months from leaving hospital in 2011.

Kailen Rosenberg Might Be Your Answer To Finding Real Love

The Debbie Nigro Show

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 2, 2023 10:26

Kailen Rosenberg known to millions as Oprah's love ambassador on the award-winning series Lovetown, USA (OWN and BBC Worldwide) joined me on Halloween to talk about finding real love. So happens just before she joined me on the radio, I had read a story in the NY Post about the number of people who were wearing 'sexy' Halloween Costumes in the hope of getting lucky with a sweet treat of the human kind by nights end. The results of a survey taken by a sex positive dating app named 'Pure' said 72 % women and 43% of men would be wearing 'sexy' Halloween costumes this year. I'm sure for some that was fun, but most people are out there searching for a real connection, not a one night ‘boo', and it takes more than a sexy costume to find real love.  If you are looking for real love, Kailen Rosenberg might be your answer.  What makes her such a love guru? Well, Kailen's been in the love, dating, and relationships industry for almost 30 years. She's also had to follow her own advice and shares her own journey to finding love. Kailen's the author of the best-selling Simon & Schuster book "Real Love, Right Now: A Celebrity Love Architect's Thirty-Day Blueprint for Finding Your Soul Mate - and So Much More!” . The book is a guide for anyone seeking an authentic and meaningful connection in a world often characterized by superficiality and false closeness. Honestly, ‘30 Days to Real Love' sounded to me a little like a pitch to go on some kind of diet. We all do know, if you actually follow a diet for 30 days, results actually happen. I was wondering, is Kailen's 30-day love strategy one that actually works, like a diet, if you follow it?  “It's pretty identical”, she said. “I mean, it really, really is. It's about honing in on what you really want instead of just thinking about it and dreaming about it all the time and then looking at the reality of what has been blocking it”. She went on to say, “And we know if we sit and we're silent enough for even a moment to get really raw and honest and real with ourselves, to look at how and where we are blocking love, whether it's from fear, from the past, past relationships, childhood, whatever, it is that has basically shown us or told us that love really isn't real. Or it can't happen. Or if it does it's only painful and it's only going to end in demise, which you know sadly too many people really end up believing that to a certain extent. Then we end up blocking it energetically and so we get in our own way and we end up through the way we dress, the faces that we have, the way we speak to others. “ “And so we're constantly out there either attracting love or repelling love, she said. “And so, in 30 days, it's really about getting centered, getting present, learning to really love yourself, to really understand and know your true value, to honor that. And then energetically, you're putting out a totally different vibe, and the next thing you know, people from all directions are seeing you differently and they're attracted to you, and you're now also attracted to yourself in a very different way. So, it's a cool experience. It really is and yeah, it does work.” Kailen is also the founder and CEO of the world's first holistic wellness, love, and social club platform for extraordinary singles: My LOVE DESIGN®.  There, Kailen provides exclusive invitations to expert-led events, covering a wide range of topics such as love, beauty, home design, spirituality, finances, and more.  Her first of its kind, invite only, luxury dating, wellness experience is an in-person event with Modern Luxury magazine happening in Houston on November 14th, 2023. All singles attending have been vetted. Next stop for a Kailen Rosenberg event, will be New York City and then more events across the country. Kailen's really excited about it all because she says, “it's just time for a change. Dating and friends are just exhausting.” As for age? Kailen says that becomes far more irrelevant and so her focus isn't on younger, older, or same age, it's just on finding the right one. Finally, I did have to ask …how many people did this smarty pants love guru help find Real Love? Kailen said, she stopped counting after 500 marriages. Feel free to share this podcast of my warm live radio conversation with Kailen Rosenberg about what she's doing to help singles find genuine love. It might be of real interest to someone you know who is looking for real love.

It's about time!Listen in to this week's episode of WHO CORNER TO CORNER in which our hosts Paul and Geoff travel back in time to the Wilderness Years of the 90s to revisit the island of joy that is the Doctor Who TV Movie.Starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor, featuring Sylvester McCoy's  final moments as the 7th Doctor and Hollywood's very own Eric Roberts as the Master, the TV Movie was a glorious big budget, large scale attempt to resurrect a show considered dead and gone by the BBC. The result of a troubled transatlantic co-deal between Universal, Fox and BBC Worldwide, the TV Movie thrusts the 'quintessentially British' Doctor Who into a landscape of 90s American TV tropes: hospital drama, urban gang war, cop chase and quirky romance. Was it all too much for this little British show to hold? Was Doctor Who stretched too far? Or did the American framework and the ambitions of producer Philip Segal provide just enough fuel to re-ignite the British public's imagination and prove to the BBC that Doctor Who could indeed return for a new generation?Listen in as we discuss the TV Movie's ambitions, its flaws and its triumphs! Robert Robb & Paul Johnson discuss Communism, Socialism and benefits of American Capitalism. The discussion covers how American Capitalism has done more to improve the quality of life and improve the human condition than any other system in the history of the world.   If you hate capitalism, you might want to skip this one, but if you are open to the idea that free markets have actually made the world better, there is much to learn here.    The discussion begins with Robbs recent articles, regarding Kyrsten Sinema, a United States Senator from Arizona, one of the few pro business senators left in either party, and how her revisions to the draconian tax increases may have saved the country from a deep recession.  The discussion is a full throated defense of prioritizing the individual above the collective and also covers economic theory, time both presenters spent in communist countries, and predictions of the future of capitalism.   The Wall Street Journal once called Robb the “dean of Arizona political journalists.” He has been published by the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, RealClearPolitics.com, and other Gannett newspapers across the country. In 2000, Robb was a media fellow with the Hoover Institution. In 2009, he was awarded a fellowship for study in Japan by the Foreign Press Center Japan. Robb has been a guest on PBS's The NewsHour, MSNBC, BBC Worldwide, CNN's American Morning, C-Span, and several shows on Fox News. Robb served as a judge for the Pulitzer Prize in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, he placed second in the Bastiat Prize, an international competition for economic writing sponsored by the Reason Foundation.   Robert Robb writes about politics and public policy at the links below:   robertrobb.com  robertrobb.substack.com    We are The Optimistic American, and we are in the business of promoting what is going right in our country. Every day, there is tremendous progress being made in America — across technology, public policy, science and medicine, and much more — that will set current and future generations up for success. Our goal is to highlight these advancements and tilt the scale of news and information from pessimism towards optimism.   This interview reflects the best themes of The Optimistic American, that our best days lie ahead.   Learn more about The Optimistic American by checking out our website! https://www.optimisticamerican.com

My guest this week is Reetu Kabra, a London-based publicist with over 15 years' experience working in house for renowned media and entertainment companies including the BBC and BBC Studios, UKTV, Discovery Networks and Penguin Random House.  During her time at BBC Worldwide she handled global publicity for the internationally acclaimed Doctor Who and Sherlock as well as other major BBC dramas including War & Peace, Luther and Wolf Hall.  In 2017, she managed the Cannes Film Festival publicity campaign for Jane Campion's Top of the Lake: China Girl.   Shortly thereafter Reetu founded her own company: RKPR, where she manages personal publicity for a number of actors and writers, as well as consulting for clients including Amazon Prime, Netflix and Apple TV+ among others. She recently worked as a unit publicist for The Essex Serpent starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston (AppleTV+/See-Saw Films) and the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman (Netflix).  We discuss many things, including how Reetu wound up working in the entertainment industry, where you begin with creating a publicity campaign and defining your audience, what exactly unit publicity is, what goes into creating behind-the-scenes featurettes such as this one for The Essex Serpent and what sets RKPR apart. Reetu was an incredibly intelligent and incisive guest and for me, this conversation served as a reminder that there really is a strategy behind publicity and how shows or even people get promoted, it's not just about putting a trailer up on YouTube and hoping for the best. In this episode Lesley is joined by Australian media personality, Paris Cutler. She shares the story of her early careers where she survived the brutalities of the patriarchal systems she faced on her journey through law to becoming the most successful of the four women on the trading floor in the Australian Stock Exchange and ultimately diving in entrepreneurialism. Paris speaks candidly of her discovery that she was “a secret misogynist” and the tough resilience required to break free from the well-trained tradition expressed by many female professionals, of being a woman in stilettos while addressing business and other women as a men do. Paris reveals to the listeners the brutal treatment she received, predominantly from women, as her entrepreneurial star rose after buying a little cake shop that made her the 'cake maker to the stars' and the star of one of the first baking reality TV shows to air. Now a vocal advocate for women and gender parity, Paris articulates the importance of women taking up the task of raising feminist men, in order for all of us to begin to see real change in business and society at large.         Paris Cutler is a Blue Ocean Business Strategist, life coach, committed optimist, and seasoned business owner. She helps entrepreneurs, social media influencers, and corporate executives become market leaders by uncovering their real purpose and designing a successful brand and career that aligns with it. In turn, creating a fulfilling life that vibrates with success and meaning.   Five times published author, speaker, and media personality, Paris cut her teeth as CEO of Planet Cake. She purchased a tiny cake shop in 2003 and transformed it into a #1 national brand and seven-figure business. As 'cake maker to the stars,' Paris had clients like Rhianna and Celine Dion, sold books worldwide, and launched the largest cake decorating school in the southern hemisphere. She also starred in 'Planet Cake' - one of the first baking reality TV shows, which was distributed in over 20 countries by BBC Worldwide. She has won an Astra Award and was a finalist for Ernst & Young's 'Entrepreneur of the Year' Award.   As a business strategist and life coach, Paris has found her spiritual home on LinkedIn. “Almost a perfect crime. The hacking ring and an attempt to steal a billion dollars. Investigators blame North Korea. Pyongyang denies involvement. The story begins in Hollywood.”The Lazarus Heist is a BBC World Service podcast examining cybercrime and how modern nation-states are utilising such tactics. The story starts with the 2014 hack into Sony Pictures' information systems. The operation led to a shutdown of the company's computer networks, seizure of its digital files and leak of confidential information into the public domain. The perpetrator? North Korea.“What's interesting about the Sony hack is that it did demonstrate this other purpose of a cyber hack, which I believe is to sow discord or chaos,” says Jean Lee, journalist and co-host of The Lazarus Heist. There are other reasons cyber hacks are utilised by North Korea, according to Jean Lee — “to use it as a form of asymmetric warfare.”To illustrate the global threat that cybercrime presents, The Lazarus Heist also highlights other significant cyberattacks. These include the 2016 Bangladesh Bank heist and the 2017 Wannacry ransomware attack that affected the UK's National Health Service (NHS). Other culprits involved in these cyber attacks? Microsoft, the United States National Security Agency (NSA) and Russian intelligence groups.Jean Lee's knowledge of Korea, North and South, combined with Geoff White's knowledge of cybercrime add up to a fascinating story of technology, culture and history in The Lazarus Heist. The story is as important for understanding the effects of cybercrime on individuals and society as it is for understanding modern international relations. In this episode of MetaPod, we learn about cybercrime methods and why they have become attractive instruments of asymmetric warfare and income generation for North Korea.

This episode is about how thinking about and doing things differently from the norm when it comes to marriage and relationships is what ultimately allows you to succeed in love. I came across an article the other day that was entitled “Covid quarantine confirmed that sleeping in separate beds is the best thing for my marriage,” by Judi Ketteler. And upon reading this, in addition to thinking about my own marriage, I thought about my conversation in December 2019 with Rabbi Manis Friedman —bc in that episode he said that it's actually “insulting” to sleep in the same bed with one's spouse. So with that in mind I invited Rabbi Friedman back on to talk about not just the surprising benefits of not sleeping w one's spouse but the benefits of embracing a mindset about marriage that differs radically from the norm. Rabbi Friedman is an internationally sought after speaker, author and expert on the topics of love, marriage, intimacy and parenting. The chief political commentator at the Daily Telegraph, Peter Oborne, has resigned from the paper, saying its lack of coverage of HSBC and allegations of tax avoidance amounts to a form of "fraud on readers" - a charge the paper strongly denies. Mr Oborne said there had been serious lapses of editorial judgement. It's raised questions about the extent to which advertisers influence editorial decision making, as newspapers come under increasing financial pressures. Steve Hewlett talks to Chris Blackhurst, former city editor of the Evening Standard and former editor of The Independent, about whether the balance of power is shifting. British TV drama is becoming big business overseas. From the popularity of Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Parade's End and Doctor Who, to more recent exports like Broadchurch and Fortitude, a global audience is now enjoying home-grown productions. Steve Hewlett discusses what is driving the growing interest with Ben Donald, Executive Producer of International Drama at BBC Worldwide, Jane Millichip, MD of Sky Vision, and Mammoth Screen founder and producer Michele Buck. A controversial documentary on immigration that was filmed in Southampton has been reduced from six programmes to one. Channel 4 has announced it will show "Immigration Street" as a one-hour documentary next Tuesday. The station originally commissioned six episodes of the Benefits Street spin-off, made by Love Productions. Steve Hewlett asks executive producer Kieran Smith what has led to the decision, and he speaks to Satvir Kaur, Southampton councils cabinet member for communities about the impact the documentary has had on residents. Producer: Katy Takatsuki.

@bigfinish #bigfinish #doctorwho #drwho #gally1  DOCTOR WHO - THE SIXTH DOCTOR: THE LAST ADVENTURE 4 February 2015 Categories: , , , ,  September 2015 sees the release of a very special story from Big Finish, as Doctor Who - The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure at last provides a heroic exit for Colin Baker's much-loved Time Lord... It's with some delight we can confirm some tweets and posts, photos and rumours, that something very extra special is coming for fans of the Sixth Doctor at Big Finish, with the September release of . Colin's last outing in the Doctor Who role on television was The Trial of a Time Lord in 1986, but there was no proper handover story to Sylvester McCoy when he joined the series in 1987. Now, 28 years later, the full details of the Sixth Doctor's death will be revealed - and it's part of an epic battle that spans many sections of his life, and involves many of his companions. ‘I spoke to Colin not long after Matt Smith's final outing, The Time of the Doctor, was broadcast on television,' says producer David Richardson. ‘I felt very strongly that regeneration stories, and each Doctor's final end, are very important to Doctor Who fans - these are stories that allow us to see the Doctor at his most courageous, making a sacrifice that only makes us love him more. And so I asked Colin if he might finally consider doing the Sixth Doctor's final story with us. To my huge delight, he said yes.' ‘I owe a lot to Big Finish,' says Colin. ‘They have given my Doctor the opportunity to live beyond those few episodes on television which were recorded during a time when the programme was under siege from various quarters. My Doctor did not benefit from that time. However at Big Finish the Sixth Doctor has lived and breathed anew and developed in a way that I am extremely happy with. ‘That would be the only reason I have agreed to bring my Doctor to an end - although it's not really an end, because Big Finish plucks stories from the whole era of every Doctor. But because I never actually filmed a regeneration, and left poor Sylvester floundering around in my empty clothing with a blond wig on, I have resolutely maintained the lie that I am still the Doctor and all the rest are imposters because I never regenerated!' (He laughs) 'So it's a tribute to the smooth talking people at Big Finish and the standard of the work completed thus far that I have cast aside my reluctance and joined all the other Doctors in actually having a regeneration. ‘And I can promise you: it's a cracker.'  will be released in a lavish book-sized box set that contains special photography, bespoke illustrations and behind the scenes interviews, as well as four hour-long episodes. The stories are connected by the presence of Michael Jayston as the Valeyard, the entity that exists between the Doctor's twelfth and thirteen incarnations. The Sixth Doctor won't be alone in battle though, as he'll be joined across the adventures by Constance (Miranda Raison), Charlotte Pollard (India Fisher), Flip (Lisa Greenwood) and Mel (Bonnie Langford), as well as those dedicated detectives, Jago & Litefoot (Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter, alongside Lisa Bowerman as Ellie Higson!) The saga opens with The End of the Line by Simon Barnard and Paul Morris, in which the Doctor and his latest companion Constance (Miranda Raison) investigate a commuter train that has lost its way… In The Red House by Alan Barnes, the Doctor and Charlotte Pollard (India Fisher) arrive on a world that is populated by werewolves. Stage Fright by Matt Fitton takes the Doctor and Flip (Lisa Greenwood) to Victorian London, where investigators Jago (Christopher Benjamin) and Litefoot (Trevor Baxter) explore theatrical performances that have echoes of the Doctor's past lives… Finally, time is running out in The Brink of Death by Nicholas Briggs, as the Doctor and Mel (Bonnie Langford) face the final confrontation with the Valeyard - and the Doctor must make the ultimate sacrifice. ‘It's been such a pleasure to work with Colin on these, giving him a whistle-stop tour of his era,” says Nick, who is also directing. “I felt privileged to write his final moments too. But the wonderful thing for us at Big Finish is that even though this is the end of the Sixth Doctor, we have the luxury of continuing to tell as many stories about him for as long as the BBC allow us. AND   UNIT - EXTINCTION 9 February 2015 Categories: ,  Big Finish is delighted to announce that Kate Stewart and her UNIT team from the Doctor Who TV series will be starring in a brand new series of audio dramas, in a licensing deal with BBC Worldwide. Kate is the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and Head of Scientific Research at the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, which investigates and confronts alien attacks on the planet Earth. The role is portrayed by Jemma Redgrave (Dracula, Frankie, Cold Blood) who has appeared opposite Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi on television, and returns for the audio series. “We're thrilled that Jemma is on board for our brand new UNIT adventures,” says series producer David Richardson, “and we feel privileged to work within the universe of New Series Doctor Who for the first time.  will showcase all the excitement, drama and wit that viewers of Doctor Who love.” “Having worked with the greatly missed Nicholas Courtney and his magnificent portrayal of the Brigadier since the early days of Big Finish, it is wonderful to see the return of UNIT under the Brig's daughter,” says executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery. “We are all very excited about bringing UNIT back to Big Finish with the next generation and look forward immensely to working with Jemma again, who appears in this month's  main range release .” “I'm really excited to hear Jemma and her team battling to save the Earth,” says executive producer Nick Briggs. “They've been such an important part of the many exciting things to come out of the Doctor Who TV series in recent years.” Additional cast members for the first box set, , will be revealed later. This first box set release comprises four hours of adventure, in which Kate and her team confront an alien invasion by the Nestene Consciousness and its army of plastic Autons.  will be released in November 2015, and is available for specially-priced pre-order, with all pre-orders getting a copy of Nicholas Courtney's memoirs  as a free download as Supplementary content in Big Finish accounts. Three additional box sets will be available at six monthly intervals, with all four available for a  pre-order. For many more details, watch this space in coming months.
