In this session, Ajahn Kovilo and Ajahn Nisabho discuss the the Nobel Prize winning author Hermann Hesse and his influential books Siddhartha, Narcissus and Goldmund, and others.

Benedict's feature film work includes the films: The Counterfeiters, A Woman In Berlin, Mahler On The Couch, Homevideo, Cold Hell, Styx, Narcissus and Goldmund, Hinterland, I'm Your Man, In A Land That No Longer Exists, and Stella: A Life.

"God's best work is in the fray of humankind. God's story for us is that sorrow may last for the night but the dawn of redeeming grace is on the horizon."How would you describe God's story for us?//Psalm 146:5-10Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God,who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them;who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.Praise the Lord!//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. "The promise is not that we are going to be moved to a different place but rather the sight of our suffering and desolation will become the sight of incarnation and divine revelation."How can you find God in the midst of the suffering and desolation we encounter in this world?//Isaiah 35:1-10The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom;like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and shouting. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God.]]Strengthen the weak hands and make firm the feeble knees.Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.”Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be opened;then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.For waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert;the burning sand shall become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water;the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp; the grass shall become reeds and rushes.A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way;the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God's people; no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing;everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. "God has hands – they're attached to your wrists. And so when we show up, that is the embodiment of God-with-us."How will you embody God in the world around you today?//Isaiah 11:1-10A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.He shall not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge for the poor and decide with equity for the oppressed of the earth;he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist and faithfulness the belt around his loins. The wolf shall live with the lamb; the leopard shall lie down with the kid;the calf and the lion will feed together, and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder's den. They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples; the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious.//This episode was written, recorded, and produced by Rev. Today, Katie Herzog and Jesse Singal present the first ever BARPod two-parter in known human history. This duology will chronicle, in exhaustive detail, a calamitous struggle between Kiwi Farms, a gossip board and/or harassment amplifier and/or literal digital version of Hitler's mountain rereat and/or actual terrorist organization (depending on you ask), and Keffals, a Twitch streamer and trans activist. The story somehow also involves, in no particular order, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Cloudflare, the entire mainstream media, Northern Ireland, Destiny, The Ulster Volunteer Force, The Ulster KiwiFarms Force, “ChudLogic” (?), questionable grooming allegations, unquestionable helping-minors-get-hormones allegations, GoFundMe, mean chat logs, even meaner chat logs, doxxing, harassing, stalking, Ethan Ralph, stealthing, screaming, swatting, and Reply All's Alex Goldman. (Plus some more stuff in Part 2.)(CORRECTION VIA COMMENTER: “Small correction on the go fund me targets. The original goal was way lower (30k I think). Everytime the goal was reached, a new goal was set in 10k increments. This article shows the goal at 70k just after they passed 60k in donations. The London, Ontario Police Chief's statement noted, “In this case, firearms were displayed until it was determined a threat no longer existed. I acknowledge that for the average citizen, having heavily armed police officers attend your residence would be traumatic. I understand this was a traumatic and shocking experience for Ms. Sorrenti.” And here's what Keffals told Vice: “They told me to put my hands up, and when I get to the door, there are three police officers,” Sorrenti said. “Two of them were standing up and one of them in the middle was crouched down behind a riot shield with an assault rifle perched on top of the shield.”)Notes:Keffals claims to be woken up to an assault rifle in her face, leading to the campaign against KiwiFarmsKeffals claims Julie TerryBerry, David “Near” Ginder, and Chloe Sagal committed suicide as a result of harassment from KiwiFarms (a bit more about this in Part 2)Keffals with all the food trolls ordered to her houseMTG on Newsmax, talking about her swatting.MP3 backuphttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1bwZrWUZKh8nHvOzdkO6gB0ANyGxeDR91/view Cloudflare's essay on why they don't pull support from unpopular websiteshttps://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflares-abuse-policies-and-approach/ Cloudflare pulls support from an unpopular websitehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/09/03/cloudflare-drops-kiwifarms/ Cloudflare tries to justify pulling the plug on KFhttps://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/09/cloudflare-explains-why-kiwi-farms-was-its-most-dangerous-customer-ever/ Keffals announces Kiwi Farms was taken down from the Internet ArchiveWhat happens when you try to access any KiwiFarms page on the Internet Archivehttps://web.archive.org/web/20220000000000*/kiwifarms.net A threat made against Keffals by a KF userKiwi Farms administrator Joshua “Null” Moon explains the situationhttps://archive.ph/k6Cq7The timeline of the post, according to one Farmer“This person is not an active member of our community”.Another user threatens KeffalsKF users' response to this threat [TOR REQUIRED]http://uquusqsaaad66cvub4473csdu4uu7ahxou3zqc35fpw5d4ificedzyqd.onion/threads/dropkiwifarms.128421/page-162A written threat to KeffalsThe paper in questionSee for yourself how much KF hates Ethan Ralph [TOR REQUIRED]http://uquusqsaaad66cvub4473csdu4uu7ahxou3zqc35fpw5d4ificedzyqd.onion/search/15749956/?q=ethan+ralph&o=relevance Or how much Ralph hates KF and Nullhttps://archive.ph/N95cl Never have (podcast) heroesJesse tries to explain (1/2) Jesse tries to explain (2/2)(UPDATE: Jesse was subsequently blocked by Goldmund, then unblocked. In the first non-Eco book of the season, the boys tackle Herman Hesse's Narcissus and Goldmund, a tale of two very different medieval figures. Karl and Friedrich, our Hessexperts, are perplexed by the book's relation to Hesse's other works, but plow on nonetheless. The boys talk about artistic creation, medieval verisimilitude, and the special bond between teachers and students. Then, on a very special Postmodern Food Factory, the boys try not one, not two, not three, but FOUR different lab-created foodstuffs (Nitro Pepsi, Smartfood Doritos Popcorn, Taki's Meatsticks, and Carolina Reaper Cheetos). Plus an all time great Karl story about his fear of popcorn. Theme Music: "Shostakovich" by Mucca Pazza.

This time around, the brothers are looking at novels with overt spiritual themes - novels in which the main character, or characters, undergo some type of transformation or evolution (or devolution?) in what they believe and how they look at life. As we say in our introductory comments, the "Big Questions" and spiritual themes are something we've never shied away from on this podcast. Now, these thorny questions take center stage. Mind you, we're not going to solve any of them for you - but we're fascinated when writers have the guts to take them on and send their characters on a spiritual journey in some way. Ranging from ancient texts to contemporary stage plays, picaresque tales and dark allegories, this episode isn't afraid to dive into the deep end of the pool. Both Jude and John agree that it's high time, and a distinct pleasure, to dedicate one of our "Dealer's Choice" episodes to a female writer - in this case, the esteemed and unique American author Annie Proulx. For those new to the show, a Dealer's Choice episode is when your humble hosts choose a writer whose work means a lot to us, and is well worth recommending, and taking an in-depth look at their entire oeuvre. One of us first came to Proulx's work through her most famous novel (The Shipping News), one through her acclaimed series of stories set in Wyoming, but it didn't take either of us long to count ourselves as dedicated members of the Annie Proulx fan club. What makes her work unique, valuable, fascinating and worth your time? That is what we aim to unpack in Episode 46 of the Book XChange podcast. Whether you've read several of her books or know nothing about her, this is an episode - and a writer - not to be missed. (You're gonna have to trust your favorite book-loving brothers on this one.) ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz...
Proudly produced with ❤️ by Hauke Wagner
[01:14:07] BGM#2. Originating from Pennsylvania, Goldmund is the alias of Keith Kenniff, a producer whom has received critical acclaim for his contemporary take on modern electronic music and neo classical. He has been recognised alongside the likes of Hauschka, Dustin O'Hallora and many more and has been enterprisingly busy to boot. This month marks the release of a new album on Western Vinyl, titled "Occasus" the album draws upon few elements and blends carefully timed instrumentation to create an effect which is far bigger than anticipated. We invited him to deliver a mix, whilst not strictly a disc jockey he goes deep through influential elements of his musical progression and takes us on a wild existential journey.
